Der DB Navigator ist der ideale Reisebegleiter im Nah- und Fernverkehr sowie für U-Bahn, Straßenbahn und Bus.

Ob für die Reise allein, mit der Familie, in der Gruppe, mit dem Fahrrad oder mit dem Hund - über die optimierte Buchungsstrecke gelangt man einfach und schnell zum passenden Ticket. Entdecken Sie viele praktische Funktionen wie die Reisevorschau, die digitale Reisebegleitung für regelmäßig genutzte Verbindungen und die optimierten Benachrichtigungen zur Reise.

Der DB Navigator hält in jeder Situation den passenden Service für Sie bereit:

• Digitale Tickets:  Buchen Sie Ihr Ticket für Züge, U-Bahn, Tram und Bus bis kurz vor Abfahrt.
• Sitzplatzreservierung : Reservieren Sie Ihren Sitzplatz direkt bei der Ticketbuchung oder auch nachträglich.
• Bestpreissuche:  Finden Sie immer ein günstiges Ticket.

Umstiegszeit individuell anpassen

In der Verbindungssuche können Sie Ihre Umstiegszeit individuell anpassen. Um mehr Zeit beim Umsteigen zu haben, klicken Sie auf „Optionen“ und wählen bei „Umstiegszeit“ die gewünschte Minutenzahl aus. Diese wird dann bei der Verbindungssuche berücksichtigt.

Nur Sitzplatz (ohne Ticket) reservieren

Sie haben bereits ein Ticket und möchten nun nachträglich einen Sitzplatz reservieren? Wählen Sie hierfür auf der Startseite der App DB Navigator oben links im Dropdown-Menü die Option „Nur Sitzplatz (ohne Ticket)" aus. Danach können Sie wie gewohnt in der Reiseauskunft nach der Verbindung suchen, für die Sie einen Sitzplatz reservieren möchten. Wählen Sie die gewünschte Zugverbindung aus und schließen Sie den Buchungsvorgang ab.

Meine Favoriten

Für eine schnellere und einfachere Verbindungssuche können Sie neben Haltestellen und Adressen jetzt auch Ihre regelmäßig genutzte Strecke als Streckenfavorit in der App speichern. Hierfür klicken Sie z. B. auf „Favorit hinzufügen" und legen dort Ihre Wunschstrecke mit Start und Ziel an. Die Verbindung wird dann mit den von Ihnen ausgewählten Optionen gespeichert, so dass Sie diese später nicht noch einmal eingeben müssen. Alternativ können Sie Streckenfavoriten auch in der Verbindungsübersicht über das "Sternsymbol" speichern oder über Ihre Profilseite anlegen, bearbeiten und löschen. 

Hinweis: Nach dem Ein- und Ausloggen werden die Streckenfavoriten gelöscht.

Umgebungskarte mit Haltestellen in der Nähe

Für mehr Orientierung in der Umgebung sorgt die integrierte Karte. Abrufen lässt sich diese über das Kartensymbol rechts oben auf der Startseite der App DB Navigator.

Neben dem eigenen Standort zeigt die Umgebungskarte, welche Haltestellen und Bahnhöfe es in der Nähe gibt sowie die jeweiligen Abfahrts- und Ankunftstafeln.

Hinweis: Nach und nach wird die Karte um weitere Funktionen erweitert, die Ihre Reise von A nach B noch einfacher machen werden.

Verbindungssuche

In der Verbindungssuche geben Sie Start- und Endpunkt der Reise ein, wählen Reisedatum und -zeit aus. Unter „Reisende, Fahrräder" können Sie sich für die 1. oder 2. Klasse entscheiden und auch weitere Reisende hinzufügen, für die Sie ggf. ein Ticket benötigen, wie z. B. einen Erwachsenen, einen Hund oder ein Fahrrad. Ermäßigungen werden dort auf Wunsch ebenfalls berücksichtigt.

Neben ICE- und Intercity-Zügen werden Ihnen bei der Verbindungssuche u.a. auch U-, S- und Straßenbahnen sowie Busse angezeigt. Haben Sie eine Adresse in der Suche angegeben, wird Ihnen die nächste Haltestelle angezeigt, die Sie zu Fuß erreichen können.

Über die „Optionen" können Sie Ihre Reise weiter individualisieren.

Tickets bequem per App buchen

Mit dem DB Navigator haben Sie Ihr Ticket immer mit dabei.

Das sind Ihre Vorteile:

• Buchen Sie Ihr Fernverkehrsticket bis 10 Minuten nach Abfahrt (auch bei Verspätung).
• Buchen Sie Ihr Nahverkehrsticket bis kurz vor Abfahrt. Welche Verbünde und regionalen Angebote in der App DB Navigator verfügbar sind, sehen Sie auf der Startseite der App unter „Tickets & Angebote".
• Zahlen Sie bequem per Kreditkarte, Paypal, Apple Pay, Lastschrift oder giropay.
• Buchen Sie Fahrten für einzelne Personen sowie für große Gruppen.
• Führen Sie mit dem Komfort Check-in die Ticketkontrolle selbst durch.

Auslastungsinformationen

Mit der Auslastungsinformation können Sie schon im Vorfeld überlegen, ob Sie beispielsweise lieber einen Sitzplatz reservieren oder auf eine andere Verbindung ausweichen wollen. Geben Sie dazu in der Reiseauskunft Ihre gewünschte Verbindung ein und klicken Sie auf "Suchen". In der Verbindungsübersicht wird Ihnen nun angezeigt, ob für die angefragte Verbindung eine geringe, mittlere, hohe oder außergewöhnlich hohe Auslastung erwartet wird. Bei Verbindungen mit Umstieg sehen Sie die erwartete Auslastung für die einzelnen Reiseabschnitte in den Verbindungsdetails.

Digitale Reisebegleitung

Profitieren Sie von der digitalen Reisebegleitung mit der Reisevorschau, den Benachrichtigungen zur Reise und der Funktion „Reise merken". Die Reisevorschau bietet Ihnen Informationen über die verschiedenen Abschnitte Ihrer aktuellen Reise sowie Handlungsempfehlungen in Echtzeit. Die Benachrichtigungen zur Reise informieren Sie per Push-Nachrichten zu Änderungen und erinnern Sie an Ein- und Umstiege. Mit der Funktion „Reise merken" können Sie eine Verbindung auch ohne Ticketbuchung speichern.

Ganz neu: Im DB Navigator können Sie die digitale Reisebegleitung nun auch für regelmäßig genutzte Verbindungen einrichten.

Die Zuginformationen mit Fahrtverlauf und Wagenreihung

Über den Button „Zuginformationen" in den Verbindungsdetails und in der Reisevorschau gelangen Sie zum gesamten Fahrtverlauf des Zuges. Zur aktuellen Wagenreihung gelangen Sie per Klick auf den Tab „Wagenreihung". So erfahren Sie am Reisetag vor der Ankunft Ihres ICE, IC oder EC, in welchem Bereich des Gleises Ihr Wagen halten wird.

Komfort Check-in

Einsteigen, einchecken und zurücklehnen. Mit dem digitalen Service Komfort Check-in reisen Sie ohne Fahrkartenkontrolle.

Hinweis: Der Komfort Check-in im DB Navigator steht für Tickets die über das neue Buchungssystem gebucht wurden zur Verfügung. Ältere Tickets können weiterhin über das ICE Portal oder www.bahn.de/jetzt-einchecken genutzt werden. Anonym gebuchte Tickets (z.B. über die Webseite oder im Reisezentrum) müssen für die Nutzung im DB Navigator zunächst in die App geladen werden.

Alternativen zum Ziel

Bei Abweichungen auf Ihrer Reise können Sie sich über den Button „Alternativen suchen" weitere Verbindungen zu Ihrem Ziel anzeigen lassen und übernehmen. Wenn Ihre Reise bereits begonnen hat, wird der Standort Ihres Zuges bei der Suche berücksichtigt, so dass Ihnen alternative Verbindungen ab dem nächsten Halt Ihres Zuges angezeigt werden.

Wichtig: Wenn Sie eine alternative Verbindung annehmen, behalten Sie Ihr ursprüngliches Ticket. Es werden ausschließlich die angezeigten Informationen im Reiseplan und die Benachrichtigungen zur Reise aktualisiert. Bitte überprüfen Sie vorher, ob Ihr Ticket für die ausgewählte Alternative gültig ist.

Fahrradmitnahme im Fernverkehr

Sie möchten mit Ihrem Fahrrad verreisen? Dann buchen Sie ganz einfach Ihr Ticket und die Fahrradkarte samt zugehöriger Stellplatzreservierung für den Fernverkehr in der App. Falls Sie erst später entscheiden möchten, ob Sie Ihr Fahrrad mitnehmen, können Sie die Fahrradkarte inklusive Stellplatzreservierung auch separat im Nachgang buchen. Fügen Sie in der Reiseauskunft unter „Reisende, Fahrräder“ den Reisenden „Fahrrad“ hinzu, indem Sie auf einen Reisenden tippen und dann zum Typ „Fahrrad“ wechseln.

Mehrere Ermäßigungen berücksichtigen

Sie besitzen mehrere Ermäßigungskarten? Wenn es möglich ist, kombiniert der DB Navigator die Ermäßigungskarten oder wählt automatisch die optimale Ermäßigung für Ihre Reise aus.

Sie können bis zu 4 Ermäßigungskarten für eine reisende Person angeben.

Die App im Dark Mode

Der DB Navigator überzeugt nicht nur im hellen Design, sondern auch im Dark Mode. Der Dark Mode kann im Menübereich „Profil" in den „Einstellungen" unter „Erscheinungsbild" aktiviert werden. Alternativ kann der Dark Mode in den Systemeinstellungen des Smartphones eingestellt werden.

Out of date information

Virgin trains in the UK no longer holds the west coast franchise. It is instead operated by Avanti West Coast. I emailed the app developers to notify them of this so it can be corrected but even though the app has been updated at least twice since then it still shows the wrong information. The seem to ignore and even fail to acknowledge useful feedback that will help them make their app better and they just press on and do whatever they want. Could be much better.

Good app but password reset very difficult

It’s a good app, quick to book tickets, and intuitive to use; but it’s seemingly impossible to reset the password for the app itself if you forget it, leaving you locked out when you need you buy a ticket — thus, I can no longer book tickets. Otherwise very handy. Details: The first reset process requires multiple pieces of information in the app from you (customer number, email, etc.) and then only resets the password - unhelpfully - for the main DB website and not for the actual app (the reset link email generated from DB tells you you can change the mobile app password somewhere on their website - no hyperlink or section provided - but I see no link, in the English mobile DB site at least). Password reset would be much better if a direct app password reset link were sent to your registered email address.

Unable to review contract status

I purchased a monthly Deutschland subscription, but after a few months I no longer required it. Using the cancellation form is easy, but still I have been billed for the next month! Investigating further I see there is no means to review status in the app. Fortunately I did opt for the cancellation to also be sent to my mailbox. However there is no contact us function in the support part of app. Therefore I repeated cancellation of subscription, which the app permits. I have very low confidence in making financial commitments to subscriptions and six weeks after sending cancellation request and still being charged I find the paid for ticket is now cancelled but no refund and no effective way to complain other than to visit a Reisezentrum and join the queue.

Make The Most Of The New D-Ticket for Germany

How to explore Germany by train for up to a month, with the new ticket which costs only €49!

The Deutschland Ticket, also known as the D- Ticket , is a new option for exploring Germany by train .

It's significantly cheaper than national rail passes and offers the option to travel further, compared to using the 'Lander' regional day tickets .

The D-Ticket can be used for a money-saving holiday trip in Germany, but because the primary purpose of the ticket is to make travel cheaper for regular users of trains in Germany, there are three aspects of using the D-Ticket, which need to be front of mind:

• The ticket won't be cheaper when booked in advance, but whether you obtain the D-Ticket at a station ticket office or book it online you have to take a subscription, a monthly re-occurring fee. So you will need to remember to cancel it at the conclusion of your trip, before the next payment is due.
• D-Tickets are valid for month, but the period of validity begins on the 1st day of the month, regardless of when you purchase the ticket, or the date of your first day of travel.
• It can't be used on the express train services; the ICE trains and the IC (EC) trains .

The train services on which the D-Tickets can be used, regardless of which company is operating the trains, are:

• The local trains in German urban areas and cities which are known as S-Bahn services
• The local trains away from the major German cities, which are the RB services and are branded Regio services.
• The faster RE trains which connect cities and skip more stations than the S-Bahn and RB services; plus they also operate over longer routes not taken by the express trains, though they are also branded Regio services.

If you will be travelling in Germany with children , the D-Ticket is less likely to be an overall money saver. There are no child rates for D-Tickets, but in contrast up to four children can travel for free with a person aged 15 and over who has purchased a ticket for a journey by an express train service Children also travel at no charge on the Regio trains if the adult ticket purchaser is a parent or grandparent.

Away from the high speed lines, Regio train services travel along most German rail routes, but they don't cover such long distances as the express - IC and ICE trains. Though some Regio trains operate the full length of useful longer routes, and these include:

• Aachen - Cologne/Koln - Dusseldorf - Essen - Dortmund - Hamm (west)
• Cologne/Koln - Bonn - Koblenz - Bingen - Mainz
• Koblenz - Troisdorf - Cologne/Koln - Monchengladbach
• Koblenz - Cochem - Trier - (Luxembourg)
• Koblenz - Cochem - Trier - Saarbrucken - Kaiserslautern - Mannheim
• Karlsruhe - Baden Baden - Offenburg - Villingen (Schwarzw) - Singen - Konstanz
• Karlsruhe - Baden Baden - Offenburg - Freiburg (Breisgau) - Basel
• Basel - Waldshut - Schaffhausen - Singen - Radolfzell - Friedrichshafen
• Stuttgart - Ulm - Friedrichshafen
• Munchen/Munich - Memmingen - Lindau
• Munchen/Munich - Augsburg - Donauworth - Steinach (b Rothenburg ob der Tauber) - Wurzburg

However, what's more typical is that Regio trains travel on routes which link one city with its closest adjacent cities/urban areas. As a result travelling to more distant cities often involves hopping between multiple Regio trains, connecting at the intermediate cities along the route. Examples include:

• Koln > Dusseldorf > Osnabruck > Bremen > Hamburg = 6hr 44min
• Hannover > Gottingen > Kassel > Frankfurt = 6hr 7min
• Hamburg > Schwerin – Berlin = 4hr 17min
• Berlin > Dessau > Leipzig > Hof > Munich = 8hr 6min
• Munich > Wurzburg > Frankfurt = 5hr 49min
• Basel > Offenburg > Karlsruhe > Heidelberg > Mannheim > Frankfurt = 6hr 26min

Most main city stations, the hauptbahnhofs, are served by Regio trains on multiple routes. So in addition to links to multiple other cities, the Regio services can also call in towns with access to popular tourist attractions, castles, museums or outstanding scenery.

Ideas for how to use D-Tickets

If you can arrange your German holiday so that it commences on around the 1st of a month, it's possible to take a national tour solely by the Regio trains. The destination guides below will show you how to get to the next of these destinations by Regio trains, they have been arranged in an order that allows a circular route around Germany to be followed.

Another idea, which will save money when using D-Tickets, is to spend some time in more than one city and then use each city's Regio train services travel to multiple locations popular with tourists. It can pay off to take ICE trains between more distant cities and then use the Regio trains once you are in your chosen destination.

If you will be making two or more long-distance journeys, purchasing a German railcard, a Bahn Card , can pay off. Exploring Germany by train with a combination of a D-Ticket + a Bahn card + tickets to travel by the IC or ICE trains can be cheaper than using Eurail passes for Germany , or InterRail passes for Germany .

You can take direct Regio trains from Köln Hbf on multiple routes, including to:

• Essen (for the Folkwang Museum ) and the Ruhr Museum in the Zollverein Complex
• two of the prettiest villages on the west bank of The Rhine River at St Goarhausen (St Goar) and Baccarach
• Head to Bochum HBf and connect for the local S3 route in order to go to the Bochum Eisenbahn Museum and / or visit the DB Museum in Koblenz which is an easy journey by train and local bus.
• Wuppertal, the location of the fabulous suspended railway .

Or head on to Bremen on the Regio trains by connecting in Dusseldorf and Osnabruck. Then having spent some time in Bremen , take Regio trains on to Hamburg,

You can take direct Regio trains from Hamburg Hbf on multiple routes, including from/to:

• Schwerin, for its castle and for Regio trains on to Berlin
• Rostock - connect for the beaches at Warnemünde and for Bad Doberan to ride the Molli steam railway Take the train on from Rostock to Stralsund , where connections are possible on to the island of Rugen , the location of the Rügensche BäderBahn steam railway. Stralsund has direct Regio trains on to Berlin.

You can take direct Regio trains from Berlin Hbf on multiple routes, including from/to:

• Dessau - connect in Dessau for Leipzig
• Lutherstadt Wittenberg - connect in Lutherstadt Wittenberg for Leipzig

To the Harz Mountain Railway

Germany's most well known network of narrow gauge steam railways is most easily accessed from Berlin by taking an ICE train to Halle and connecting there for a Regio train to the junction station at Wernigerode. On Mondays to Fridays it isn't possible to travel between Berlin and Wernigerode solely by Regio trains and to have sufficient time to make the most of rides behind the steam trains.

However, at weekends it's possible to use D-Tickets to make a return trip, because on Saturdays and Sundays a Regio train is typically scheduled to depart from Berlin Hbf at 07:23. On arrival at Wernigerode there will be time to make a return trip to the highest Harz Mountain Railway station at Brocken, with the D-Ticket also being valid on the Harz Railway as far as Drei Annen Hohne, which is the junction station for the Brocken line.

You can take direct Regio trains from Leipzig Hbf on multiple routes, including from/to:

• Bamberg , take Regio trains on to Nurnberg
• Dresden , connect in Dresden for Kurort Rathen, the closest station to the Bastei Bridge
• Jena , take Regio trains on to Bamberg and Nurnberg
• Hof - connect for Munchen/Munich
• Nurnberg / Nuremberg - connect for Munchen/Munich

You can take direct Regio trains from Nurnberg Hbf on multiple routes, including from/to:

• Bamberg , take Regio trains on to Leipzig
• Regensburg , connect for Munchen/Munich
• Augsburg - connect for Munchen/Munich; one of the few Regio train services on which the DB Ticket can't be used are the Regio trains between Nurnberg and Munich which use the high speed route via Ingolstadt.

To Rothenburg ob der Tauber This charming town can be reached in around 1hr 15 mins by Regio trains from Nurnberg, but two connections are required in Ansbach and Steinach. Look up the departure options before heading to Nurnberg Hbf as the Regio (RB) trains to Ansbach depart every other hour - typically only in even hours

To Heidelberg

You can also hop between Regio trains on a Nurnberg > Cralsheim > Helibronn > Heidelberg route; the journey time is around 4hr 30mins and it's possible to depart in every other hour, the trains to Cralsheim will be heading on to Stuttgart.

You can take direct Regio trains from München Hbf on multiple routes, including from/to:

• Augsburg - connect for Nuremberg; one of the few Regio train services on which the DB Ticket can't be used are the Regio trains between Munich and Nuremberg which use the high speed route via Ingolstadt.
• Regensburg - connect for Nuremberg
• Garmisch Partenkirchen for Zugspitze, the Eibsee and the Wagenbrüchsee
• Fussen for Neuschwanstein Castle ; in alternate hours connections are required in Murnau
• Prein am Chiemsee for Herrenchiemsee Castle
• Lindau - connect for Friedrichshafen and for Ulm
• Ulm - connect for Stuttgart

Destinations which require one simple connection

• Berchtesgaden ; connect at Freilassing
• Rothenburg ob der Tauber ; connect at Steinach (b Rothenburg ob der Tauber)

1: Head to Stuttgart by connecting in Ulm, then from Stuttgart take a train to Rottweil where connections are available into trains which take a route to Donaueschingen, which also calls in Villingen (Schwarzw) - connect for Offenburg .

2: Head to Lindau and connect there for Friedrichshafen. There are trains from Friedrichshafen to Singen, where connections are available into trains which cross the forest on a route to Offenburg which calls in Donaueschingen and Villingen (Schwarzw).

There are six primary rail routes across the Black Forest taken by Regio trains:

• The main service is Black Forest Railway which follows Offenburg > Gengenbach > Hausach > Triberg > Villingen (Shwarz) > Donaueschingen > Singen.
• The Kinzig Valley route goes from Hausach > Wolfach > Schiltach > Freudenstadt and then on to Karlsruhe; there are direct trains from Offenburg to Freudenstadt.
• There is a route between Freudenstadt and Horb.
• There is a route between Villingen (Schwarzw) and Rottweil.
• Trains take a Freiburg (Breisgau) > Titisee > Neustadt (Schwarz) > Donaueschingen route.
• The Three Lakes lines connects Titisee to Seebrugg and some trains operate direct Freiburg (Breisgau) and Seebrugg.

There are two north<>south routes taken by Regio trains on either side of the forest:

• to the east there is a Stuttgart > Horb > Rottweil > Singen route;
• west of the forest trains take a Basel > Freiburg (Breisgau) > Offenburg > Baden Baden > Karlsruhe route.

So Donaueschingen, Freiburg (Breisgau), Freudenstadt, Hausach, Horb, Offenburg, Rottweil, Titisee and Villingen (Schwarzw) are junction stations where connections can be made between trains. The majority of The Black Forest routes have an hourly service, so hopping between trains is easily managed. Offenburg is a good base for a couple of days spent exploring the best of The Black Forest by train.

If you want to combine exploring Bavaria by train from Munich, with seeing The Black Forest on a D-Ticket, the station at Singen acts as a gateway. A Munich to Singen route involves connecting between trains in Lindau and Friedrichshafen, and at Singen you can take trains on to Offenburg and Titisee.

Connections are available at Karlsruhe when using D-Tickets to travel between The Black Forest and destinations to the north. Karlsruhe Hbf has Regio trains to/from Freiburg (Breisgau), Offenburg, Stuttgart, Mannheim (connect for Trier) and Heidelberg.

Heidelberg is one of Germany's most popular tourist destinations. It can be accessed with a D-Ticket by taking Regio trains on these routes;

1: An hourly service to/from Karlsruhe - connect in Karlsruhe for Freiburg, Offenburg and Stuttgart; there are no direct Regio trains between Heidelberg and Stuttgart.

2: An hourly service on a scenic route to/from Helibronn; connect for Stuttgart. You can also hop between Regio trains on a Nurnberg > Cralsheim > Helibronn > Heidelberg route; the journey time is around 4hr 30mins.

3: An hourly service to/from Mannheim (connect for Trier)

4: An hourly service to/from Frankfurt (Main) hbf, which also calls in Darmstadt; connect in Frankfurt (Main) hbf for Frankfurt Airport

One of Germany's most beautiful railway routes travels through the Moselle Valley between Trier and Koblenz, the trains which come this way also call at Cochem, the location of the iconic Reichsberg castle .

Trier also has an hourly service of Regio trains to and from Mannheim, where connections are available with Regio trains to/from Heidelberg and Karlsruhe.

In addition to the Regio trains on the route to and from Trier, the junction station at Koblenz has trains which take multiple scenic routes along the banks of the River Rhine. The most spectacular of which pass through the Rhine Gorge as they travel between Koblenz and:

• Bingen - Mainz - Frankfurt Flughafen/Airport - Frankfurt (Main) hbf; every other hour
• Weisbaden - Frankfurt (Main) hbf; hourly)
• Bingen - Mainz (connect for Karlsruhe); hourly
• Bingen - Kaiserslautern (connect for Mannheim and Trier); every other hour

Hourly fast Regio (RE) trains take two routes between Koblenz and Köln/Cologne:

• Travel along the east bank of the River Rhine on a route through Troisdorf; or
• Take trains along the west bank which call in Andernach, Remagen and Bonn.

Even though the D-Ticket has been introduced, the German national rail operator DB, is still offering a range of regional 'Lander' day tickets . In contrast the to the D-Ticket, these 'Lander' tickets are primarily aimed at holiday makers. These Lander tickets costs from €23, so at face value they seem poor value for money in comparison to D-tickets, though if an individual only wants to make two day trips by train, 2 x Lander tickets are typically cheaper than 1 x D-Ticket.

However, a key feature of the Lander tickets is that they enable up to three other adults (aged 15 and over) to share the ticket for only €3 per person. So if a group of four adults will be travelling together, 5 x Lander tickets is cheaper than 5 x D-Tickets.

Though the bigger tick in the box for using Lander tickets is that an adult using a Lander ticket can take up to three children* aged 6 to 14 with them at no extra charge. So, for example, if a family group of two adults + two children aged 9 and 12 wanted to to travel for for six days, the Lander Tickets is always cheaper than using D-Tickets; and in some regions, 7 x lander tickets, will be cheaper than 7 x D-Tickets.

*= children aged 5 and under travel for free, regardless of whether a Lander or D-Ticket is used.

Biden ofrece a algunos inmigrantes una vía hacia la naturalización. Así es como funcionará el plan

WASHINGTON (AP) — Una nueva política del gobierno de Biden anunciada el martes ofrecerá a aproximadamente medio millón de inmigrantes que viven en Estados Unidos sin estatus legal, pero están casados con ciudadanos estadounidenses, una vía para la naturalización de ellos y sus hijos.

Es una de las políticas de inmigración más radicales del presidente Joe Biden, y una que los defensores de los inmigrantes habían presionado mucho al gobierno para que adoptara.

Un vistazo a la nueva política, a quién puede beneficiar y cómo:

¿Cómo funcionaban las cosas antes?

Según la ley de inmigración de Estados Unidos, si un estadounidense se casa con un no ciudadano, pero vive en Estados Unidos, puede ser un proceso sencillo para que el cónyuge solicite la residencia permanente, llamada “green card”.

Pero si el cónyuge lleva mucho tiempo viviendo ilegalmente en Estados Unidos, el proceso se complica mucho más.

A menudo tienen que salir y presentar la solicitud desde su país de origen. Dependiendo del tiempo que la persona haya vivido en Estados Unidos sin autorización, podría tener que permanecer en el extranjero entre tres y 10 años antes de solicitar el regreso. Pueden solicitar una exención para evitar esperar tanto tiempo en el extranjero, pero conseguir una exención también supone una media de tres años y medio.

Tienen que salir del país, presentar la solicitud en un consulado —donde las esperas pueden ser largas— y obtener la autorización para regresar a Estados Unidos.

“Existe el riesgo de una separación prolongada, sobre todo si las cosas van mal”, señaló Elizabeth Taufa, abogada y estratega política del Immigrant Legal Resource Center.

Ante la perspectiva de dejar a sus familias en Estados Unidos por un proceso largo que podría no funcionar, muchos deciden quedarse y vivir escondidos.

¿Cómo está cambiando Biden la política de inmigración?

Con la nueva política, muchos cónyuges sin estatus legal pueden ahora solicitar la residencia permanente legal sin salir de Estados Unidos y, con el tiempo, obtener una vía hacia la naturalización. Pero no se trata de una aprobación automática.

Para ser elegibles, las personas tienen que haber vivido en Estados Unidos durante al menos 10 años, no suponer una amenaza para la seguridad y haberse casado antes del 17 de junio de 2024. Tendrán que solicitarlo al Departamento de Seguridad Nacional, que estudiará las solicitudes caso por caso, según escribió el departamento en una hoja informativa en la que describe la nueva política. Los cónyuges inmigrantes no pueden haber sido admitidos o autorizados a entrar en el país con anterioridad.

Según el anuncio de Biden, se investigará a los solicitantes en cuanto a su historial de inmigración, antecedentes penales y otros aspectos, incluido el posible fraude.

Una vez que el Departamento de Seguridad Nacional apruebe la solicitud, la persona dispondrá de tres años para solicitar la residencia permanente y podrá obtener una autorización de trabajo de hasta tres años.

Alrededor de 1,1 millones de inmigrantes sin estatus legal están casados con ciudadanos estadounidenses en Estados Unidos, según la organización de defensa de la inmigración FWD.us. El gobierno cree que, en última instancia, alrededor de la mitad de esa cifra —unos 500.000— podrían acogerse a este programa, además de unos 50.000 de sus hijos.

En promedio, los cónyuges han vivido en Estados Unidos poco más de dos décadas, dijo la Casa Blanca. Un alto funcionario del gobierno dijo durante una llamada para informar a los periodistas que esperan que la mayoría de las personas que se beneficien del programa sean de México.

¿Cómo encaja esto con otras políticas de inmigración de Biden?

En el último año y medio, el gobierno de Biden ha seguido una estrategia doble en materia de inmigración y seguridad fronteriza.

Por un lado, Biden ha hecho mucho más difícil obtener asilo en la frontera sur y ha intensificado las expulsiones de quienes no cumplen los requisitos para quedarse. Los defensores de los migrantes criticaron la decisión de Biden de este mes de interrumpir la tramitación de solicitudes de asilo cuando se alcance un determinado número de llegadas diarias a la frontera sur.

Por otra parte, el gobierno ha tomado una serie de medidas para admitir a personas en el país.

El ejemplo más claro es el programa creado el año pasado por el gobierno, que permite a personas de Cuba, Haití, Nicaragua y Venezuela llegar a Estados Unidos si cuentan con un patrocinador financiero, superan un control de antecedentes y vuelan a un aeropuerto estadounidense. A finales de abril, 434.800 personas de esos cuatro países habían llegado a través de ese programa.

Muchos defensores han presionado al gobierno para que haga más por los migrantes que llevan décadas viviendo ilegalmente en Estados Unidos.

¿Qué cambia en el programa para “dreamers”?

Aparte de la política para los cónyuges de migrantes, el gobierno también anunció cambios diseñados para ayudar a aquellos en el programa de Acción Diferida para los Llegados en la Infancia (DACA por sus siglas en inglés) a calificar más fácilmente para visados de trabajo establecidos desde hace tiempo.

El gobierno de Obama ofreció en 2012 protecciones contra la deportación y permisos de trabajo temporales a las personas que fueron traídas ilegalmente a Estados Unidos por sus padres cuando eran niños. Muchos de ellos, conocidos como “dreamers”, son ahora padres.

Muchas empresas que emplean a beneficiarios de DACA pueden solicitar para ellos una visa de trabajo, que es más estable y proporciona una vía para la residencia permanente, dijo Dan Berger, un investigador de asuntos migratorios en la Facultad de Derecho de Cornell, cofundador de Path2Papers, una organización que ayuda a los “dreamers” a tramitar visas de trabajo y otras formas de conseguir la residencia legal permanente.

Pero para obtener la visa de trabajo, el beneficiario de DACA debe viajar al extranjero, solicitar y obtener una exención para volver a entrar en Estados Unidos. Berger dijo que el proceso de exención es muy lento y ofrece poca orientación, por lo que los empleadores y los beneficiarios de DACA no están ansiosos por intentarlo.

“Tener una orientación clara y una expectativa clara es realmente útil”, señaló.

¿Qué sigue?

El Departamento de Seguridad Nacional tiene que elaborar directrices sobre cómo funcionará el programa para cónyuges. El programa entrará en vigor a finales del verano, según declaró Biden durante un acto celebrado el martes.

Corresponderá a los Servicios de Ciudadanía e Inmigración de Estados Unidos, una agencia del Departamento de Seguridad Nacional, tramitar todas las solicitudes. Históricamente, esta agencia ha tenido problemas de financiación para reducir los retrasos y los tiempos de espera.

Los republicanos y los que se oponen a la inmigración han criticado intensamente la propuesta, y es casi seguro que los opositores presentarán demandas para intentar detenerla.
