We are very pleased to welcome you to our site. Our team works from Brightlingsea which is an all tide harbour. This means we can leave at any time, since we are not dependant on the tide. Also we are fully wheelchair accessible.

Our normal departure time is 8am and we’re generally returning around 4pm, although other times can be arranged if required including night trips. We are a walk on walk off boat which means that our boat is in line with the jetty, so it’s easily accessible if you have any difficulty with the ladders. We are disabled user accessible so wheelchairs users are more than welcome.

NEW for 2023 we have a new boat. We can now take up to 12 people at one time.

If night fishing is your thing, then look no further, as we also have night fishing trips available upon request. When fishing with us tea and coffee are available all day free of charge also we have toilet facilities on board.

Want to cook your catch or bring some food with you? no problem as we also have a full-size cooker, so if you want to bring some food and heat it up, with our full cooking facilities that is already taken care of. 

For the fisherman who hates skinning the fish we have a new toy. A fish skinning machine for all types of fish from cod, dog fish, skate and many more. Just place your fish in and it comes out skinned and ready to cook as soon as you get home.

New to fishing?

Don't worry if you have never fished a day in your life. We are here to offer you full guidance and help, all free of charge. Life jackets are also available upon request. Your charter fishing trip is managed by experienced fishermen from Brightlingsea who know the waters and are happy to help you too.

We provide all the equipment you may need for a fantastic fishing expedition. From our state of the art up tide and bottom fishing rods, to 15lb lines which can help you catch that sea monster you dream of, we supply everything free of charge. Frozen bait like squid, mackerel, and herring are also included.

Our team have a collective experience of over 40 year in the industry not inly at Brightlingsea but also charter fishing around the Essex coast. You can rest assured that you'll be in great hands.

 We would like to give you a brief overview of our services, boat & experience in running boats.

YOUR SKIPPER:

My name is Dave Cotterill & I am the skipper/owner of Kaimoana. I have been involved in the fishing industry on boats both commercial and charter for over 32 years, 28 years of these as the skipper. So we have good experience and knowledge of our waters but we are never to old to learn more. I have a 16 meter skippers licence.

We are delighted to show off our latest boat. We can now take 12 people fishing at a time. We have toilet facilities and are still disable passenger friendly

We aim to provide everything you need for an enjoyable day aboard. There is wheelchair/mobility scooter access so all are welcome.

Equipment :

For fishing we have all the equipment, help & advice you could require available at no extra cost so if you're a beginner no problem. Children are welcome with a responsible adult. Alcohol is permitted on board if you wish to bring it but we insist you drink responsibly we will return to port at any time if this rule is not adhered to.

Terms & Conditions

• All trips require a deposit upon booking which is refundable should the adverse weather or unforeseen problem cause us to cancel.
• If you wish to cancel this is not a problem but we must have 3 days notice to receive either a full refund or change the date of your booking to another available date.
• If you do not notify us within the allotted time you will forfeit your deposit.
• We accept all forms of debit and credit cards as well as PayPal should you require.
• We supply frozen bait (squid, fish etc) for free however fresh lug/rag worm etc is available to supply upon request but at an extra charge will be due for this in full before your trip.
• We fish for all species that are native in our area but please remember fish are seasonal.
• If you are booking per person and not chartering the whole boat we will have other like minded people fishing with you.

Genesis is a Blyth 36 catamaran, it is 11m long with a 4.5m beam, Catamarans make a more stable platform for many marine uses compared to traditional hulled boats and this one can accommodate up to fourteen people including crew. It’s powered by twin Iveco 370hps, giving a cruising speed of 18kts, a large heated wheelhouse with bench seating, cooker, microwave and outside toilet cubicle. Genesis has the latest technology onboard.

Genesis can be chartered for many uses including Fishing, Estuary Tours, Seal Trips, Scattering of Ashes, TV Filming, Surveying, Scuba Diving.

Sabre is a Cygnus Cyclone purpose built for charter angling, the boat has the M.C.A code to carry 7 passengers up to 20 miles from a safe haven, this covers the Thames Estuary.

The boat is fitted with a 310HP Volvo Penta engine and this gives a cruising speed of between 17 and 20 knots, with a top speed of 25 knots.

It is equipped with all the relevant safety equipment for the C.O.P this includes an 8 man life raft.

On board we have the latest electronic equipment fitted including GPS satellite navigation, chart plotter, colour fish finding sounder, two VHF radio sets, RADAR and auto pilot.

The boat is moored at Essex Marina so there are no tidal restrictions and boarding is safe and easy.

Fishing is usually up tide over rough ground and the many sand banks the Thames has to offer.

As the River Crouch is sheltered few trips are cancelled due to bad weather. There are usually some sheltered marks within the Crouch which fish well for Codling, Thornback Ray and Bass, so you can still fish for the day even if the wind blows.

PHIL WHITE CHARTERS – SEA FISHING CHARTER BOAT HIRE IN BRADWELL ON SEA ESSEX

Welcome to Phil White Charters, the place you need to come for a great day out fishing the Thames Estuary from Bradwell on Sea in Essex with one of the most experienced and friendly skippers on the east coast.

WHERE WE ARE

We are moored at Bradwell Marina (CM0 7RB for satnav) in Bradwell on Sea. We have a walk on/off pontoon, access to the Thames Estuary in most states of the tide and if the weather blows up we can get back in to shelter. The Marina has secure car parking (£2 all day) and public toilets 24/7.

We are very lucky here in the Thames Estuary because we have a vast area of sheltered waters, this means that we can usually give our customers a day’s fishing when other boats around the coast are tied up, from October through to April most of our fishing is close inshore, even in the summer when we have to go further we still have shelter from a lot of the sandbanks and can often get a day in depending on wind direction and tides.

THE SKIPPER

I first started sea fishing when I was about 14 on a boat called the Argonaut, skippered by Owen Woolley. I caught my first cod and skate with him and I was hooked! At around 16 years of age I started crewing for John on his boat the Vicky Emma. I took my Boatman’s licence at 18 years of age and have been a skipper ever since. I am now the longest serving charter angling skipper in the Thames Estuary.

I hold an RYA (Royal Yachting Association) Commercially endorsed licence, first aid, sea survival and VHF licences so you can be rest assured that you are in safe hands during your days fishing.

ESSEX SEA FISHING (Mersea Island) - All You Need to Know BEFORE You Go

Our 4 hour trips continue to prove popular at this time of year. With the blackwater estuary on our door step we have had plenty of great fishing to choose from over the last few weeks on them.  The schoolie bass that we often expect were a little late this year. In stead our first few trips saw several roker and hounds as the best fish. a few years ago I would have been surprised at hounds so close in but we see them more often nowadays.  Of course the bass did turn up and they have provided us with some great sport. Alex books an annual trip for himself, his father and his brother to enjoy out with us. the lads now expect to see string full’s of schoolie bass coming in and always hope to find a keeper amongst them for the table. This year we were lucky enough to have 4 nice bass along with countless schoolies and a couple of roker too. The lads were very pleased to have something for dinner as well as a nice trip out.

Ian booked a short trip up while visiting Mersea on a family holiday. His sons Olly and James joined him for a few hours fishing too. We were lucky enough to start our trip with string full’s of bass on feathers before some bait fishing. I could barely keep up with the rate of fish coming over the side to be honest. we put a move in to try and find something bigger for the lads before the end of the trip. James came up trumps first with a sizable bass for the bbq. Both James and Olly had roker next and Ian topped it all off with a stingray before we headed in. the lads were very happy with their trip, as was the skipper. I often say I get a different kind of buzz from taking out novices on trips like these and they help to keep things fresh amidst a busy summer.

If I get enough interest I will offer up a few more of these short trips so please get in touch and I will see what I can do.

Our general trips are producing hounds and bass as we would expect. Some great examples of each are showing. Offshore our bass trips have started off well and will keep us busy until the end of November. I have spaces on these (including this Saturday) on various days for full boat bookings and individuals. An introduction to Brightlingsea

Brightlingsea is a coastal town in the  Tendring  district of  Essex , England. It is situated between  Colchester  and  Clacton-on-Sea , at the mouth of the  River Colne , on Brightlingsea Creek. It has a variety of shops, plenty of pubs serving good food and places to stay. Its traditional industries included fishery (with a renowned  oyster   fishery ) and shipbuilding and despite a decline of these industries, the town still popular with sailors, fishermen and holiday makers.

For those with little or no experience my crew will be on hand and more than happy to provide training and assist where required.

For the more experienced anglers my crew will help with landing your catch where required, and provide guidance in regard to baits and techniques.

The side door on Plan B makes it easier than other boats to embark. Ample room for 10 anglers. There is a flushing toilet and tea/coffee making facilities.

Philippine Fishing Boat Explosion and Fire Kill 6 Crewmembers While 6 Others Are Rescued

At least six crewmembers of a fishing boat died while six others were rescued when an explosion and a fire hit the vessel at sea off a central Philippine province

MANILA, Philippines (AP) — At least six crewmembers of a fishing boat were killed when an explosion and a fire hit their vessel at sea nearly 3 kilometers (1.8 miles) off a central Philippine province, coast guard officials said Thursday, adding six others were rescued.

Surviving crewmembers, including the skipper of the F/B King Bryan, were still being treated at a hospital or were too traumatized to tell investigators what set off the explosion and fire onboard the vessel Wednesday night off Naga city in Cebu province, coast guard officials said.

One of the injured crewmen was in critical condition at a hospital in Cebu, the coast guard said.

The wooden-hulled boat, which had bamboo outriggers, apparently developed engine trouble before an explosion and a fire engulfed the vessel, injuring crewmembers and forcing others to jump into the sea in panic. A passing tugboat helped put out the blaze and a coast guard search and rescue operation was launched, coast guard officials said.

Sea accidents are common in the Philippine archipelago because of frequent storms , poorly maintained boats, overcrowding and spotty enforcement of safety regulations .

In December 1987, an overcrowded ferry, the Dona Paz, sank after colliding with a fuel tanker, killing more than 4,300 people in the world’s worst peacetime sea disaster regarded by some as Asia's Titanic.
