Spanish Safari - Game for Kids Review

Spanish Safari combines story-based and interactive learning with gradual immersion and spaced-out repetition, comprising of over 140 lessons and over 25 interactive games. As you progress through the various levels, the use of will language gradually increases ensure children from various language backgrounds can feel comfortable and become more engaged. However, this is done is a very supportive way as vocabulary is regularly repeated and integrated with newer terms for a more immersive and effective experience with long-term vocabulary retention in mind. Spanish Safari interacts with your child in both English and Spanish. As their confidence grows and their familiarity with Spanish progresses, the app will slowly reduce the amount of English content to give a more effective immersive experience.

This immersive experience is not without its entertainment, however. Through gamification, Spanish Safari incorporates popular learning and memory games to keep your child engaged and motivated in their Spanish endeavours.

All-in-all, Spanish Safari boasts an engaging and compelling narrative supplemented with quality audio, visuals, and interactive features.

What we love about Spanish Safari

Firstly, Spanish Safari is an exceptionally well-presented app with graphics and interactions that will appeal to all children. The app is situated in a massive 3D safari world and your child gets to explore the characters and landscape thanks to the 140+ lessons and 25+ games available. The quality of the visuals and audio will be sure to captivate you, children and parents alike, and effectively draw you into the Spanish learning process in a painless and fun way, while maintaining clear purpose and structure. Children are asked to join the World Explorers and help the local animals solve the mystery of the missing water. This enthralling story line will keep children interested and ensure that they are motivated to make it through to the end of the app to solve the mystery.

At the centre of this is Explorers’ HQ – where hundreds of lessons, activities, mini-games, etc. are at your child’ fingertips. They can also see their user stats, progress, and achievements. From here, your child will be instantly inspired as they are beckoned to embark on their Spanish safari. The interactive narrative speaks directly to them and draws them into this 3D world.

The stimulus is continuously engaging and interactive, where the child is a first-person player and active participant in the dialogue and various activities, blending different landscapes and encouraging collaboration with the different animals of the savannah. However, at no point did I or the children find this overwhelming. Spanish Safari takes a blended approach that addresses your child in both English and Spanish – primarily, using English the narrative introduces Spanish gradually and in a natural-feeling way. The new words and carefully and considerately introduced and elucidated in such a way that is easy to comprehend and follow. Where the app excels is how it carefully reduces the amount of English content to give them the best possible immersive experience, as your child builds confidence and progresses through the storyline. What the app developers call ‘Spaced Repetition’ – i.e. repeated interaction with language that is spaced out over time – is highly effective in promoting long-term retention of language and making for a more effective and reassuring learning process.

Similarly, as the words and phrases are regularly repeated, the addition of gamified challenges serve as an additional factor to help keep children engaged and motivated to learn. The interactive games are effectively challenging and sufficiently varied that they complete the clever narrative very well.

Finally, something that may greatly appeal to parent users of Spanish Safari is the addition of a Parent Portal. Within this separate web area, parents and/or carers will have access to progress reports, settings, and account information. As such, you can easily track your child’s progression and engagement without the need to, invasively, trawl through the tablet device that they are using. You can also edit and amend subscription details, settings, and personal information with ease. This supplementary facility is a painless way to manage all things Spanish Safari.

Is Spanish Safari easy to use?

Yes, Spanish Safari is neatly designed and is it easy to navigate between the various features and content. The app begins by allowing parents to sign up and create a specific profile for up to 3 child users. After this, navigation is very straightforward, allowing your child to play and learn safely and with ease. There are some overlays with initial explanatory prompts, but once in-App all instructions a lead thanks to nicely designed avatars who will speak directly to your child. In my opinion, the interface is very user-friendly.

Students will love the opportunity to customise their own avatar within the app and bring another level of authenticity to their play as they will be able to better immerse themselves as a result.

For teacher and parents, Spanish Safari represents a ready-made programme where they know that their children will be engaging with quality and genuine Spanish in a comprehensive and supportive way.

How much does the app cost?

Spanish Safari is currently available for free on the iOS App Store. Unfortunately, it is not yet available on Android.

There is a 7-day free trial available; however, to unlock all content requires a monthly or annual subscription ($9.99 per month, or $89.99 annually).

Is Spanish Safari safe to use?

Yes, Spanish Safari is safe to use, with it being ad-free and all content being related to the app itself. The app is straightforward to use and is well designed. Scrolling and navigation are extremely intuitive, and the interface will ensure that you can find intended content with relative ease.

There is also a Parent Portal allowing parents and/or carers to independently monitor their child’s engagement and progress, as well as modify general and subscription settings.

What can Spanish Safari improve on

The well-structured outline of the narrative will ensure that all children will be introduced to Spanish words and phrases in an effective and supportive way, ensuring consistent progression that I will call ‘supportively challenging’. However, this structure can also be quite limiting at times as there is no scope to explore and customise learning – as a user you are tied to following the storyline. As such, this app serves well for those children who have limited or no prior knowledge of Spanish. If you have a child looking to supplement what they already know, then they may become frustrated at the need to complete initial, basic lessons before accessing content that is more suited to their level and ability. If there were an initial interface to outline level of Spanish or the opportunity to skip through certain parts of the storyline, I feel the app would appeal to a greater range of users. However, it should be noted that the narrative is designed to be progressive, using what the developers call ‘spaced repetition’ and ‘gradual immersion’ – as such, there would be the risk that skipping through parts of the narrative would be detrimental to learning as your child may miss key insights and content.

As appealing as engaging as the 3D narrative is, it can be quite slow moving forward. The elements of interaction are of real quality, but the supportive and guided monologue can frustrate at times, as there are moments of extended talking with no opportunity to interact or practise your learning. In a similar vein, the app is also quite slow on initial start-up – not unsurprisingly, when you consider the depth of storyline, characters, and the safari world itself.

The lack of Android availability is also a limitation. Hopefully, in time, the developers will consider extending to the Google Play platform.

Overall rating of the app

Spanish Safari is a neatly designed and engaging Spanish teaching app for kids that is comprehensive in its content and, through repetition of use, will be an asset for any young learner to grow in their language skills and knowledge. The app is a safe, secure, and supportive platform, which is free to download – starting with a free 7-day trial, and thereafter you will require a subscription. Using narrative-based gameplay, children will learn Spanish in a fun and intuitive way. The endearing characters, entertaining storyline, and appealing 3D world will create an experience that will engage children and make learning Spanish more of an adventure than a chore.

7 Fun Games for Learning a Second Language

safari game in spanish

Games are one of the tools for learning. And they work whether you are learning a second language of you’re learning math. People often say that whatever is learned through play is learned much faster than through any other method. In fact, research suggests that learning experiences based on play are a very effective way of developing skills that will “allow children to step into uncertainty, create opportunities for themselves and their communities, and learn throughout life.”* ( https://www.legofoundation.com/media/1063/learning-through-play_web.pdf )

In the spirit of play, we have made a list of some really fun games that can be adapted for your bilingual child to learn and practice their target language.

Learn Vocabulary with Bingo

For this game, you give each player at least one cardboard with a 5×5 grid containing words or images. The caller draws a ball or a card randomly. When a player has a match they can put a chip on there image.   When a person completes a pattern indicated at the beginning of the game, they can call out BINGO!

The great thing about this game is that you can easily adapt it to fit your needs, so there’s nothing basic about it. You can use it to practice any kind of vocabulary animals, shapes, colors, clothes, words, verbs, etc. You can purchase the game, find different versions of it on Pinterest or Teachers Pay Teachers, or you can simply make your own!

Recall What You’ve Learned with Memory

This family favorite consists of placing opaque cards face down and having players take turns in finding matching pairs. Just like bingo, you can adapt this game to suit your needs. You can play it in any language to practice a slew of different vocabulary. Anyone can play it alone or with a group of people. And you can literally play the game anywhere. Spanish Safari and Eglish Safari both include a fun electronic versión of this game.

Have Laughs While Learning with Stop (Scattegories)

You have probably played an official version of this game, but growing up we used to just use paper and pencil! Divide the paper into several rows and columns. Then you write the category (name, surname, color, fruit, animal, etc) at the top of each column. Finally, save the last column for point totals.

Each player takes a turn choosing a letter by picking pieces of papers from a container. The players should then write in the words that go with the category and begin with the chosen letter. The first player to fill out the whole sheet will yell stop. Players will then go around calling out their answers and each unique correct answer receives a point. In the end the player with the most accumulated points wins.

This fun game gives plenty of opportunities for you to practice when learning a second language, especially when introducing new vocabulary and grammar.

Learning a Second Language with Simon Says

Choose a leader (Simon) and the rest of the players must do what the person indicates using at the beginning of the phrase “Simon says …” You can choose a player who will be “Simon” or you as an adult can be it! The rest of the players must perform the actions indicated by the leader. However, they should only perform the actions if the leader says “Simons says” first. Any player who makes a mistake, is then out of the game until the next round.

Students learning a second language can have fun and learn while playing this game. Parents and teachers can asses the level of listening comprehension while guiding students and modeling proper language and grammar. With this game, you can practice verbs, body parts, and other vocabulary. Your children or students will improve their vocabulary, oral comprehension, pronunciation, oral expression and the formation of sentences.

Simon Says Freebie in Spanish

Charades for the Win

Charades is a game suitable for all ages. It consists of acting out words or phrases written on a strip of paper, and the objective is to make the person or the team guess the answer using only gestures. That’s right, when a player acts a word or phrase, he is not allowed to speak.

These words or phrases are written before the game can be on a specific theme or simply words in the minority language that you know your children or students will recognize. The player must remove the word or phrase from a container and will have a limited time for their team to guess the word through mimes. They can set their own rules before playing, such as the categories of the words found in the container and allow the player who draws the word to name the category, or if it is a phrase to announce by hand how many words it contains, and thus, this game you can adapt it to your liking and even set your own rules.

 Charades Freebie in Spanish

SCRABBLE up Some Fun While Learning a Second Language

SCRABBLE is a crossword game for 2 – 4 players, but it can also be played in a group if you want to enjoy it with a group of students. Players can score points in by placing tiles onto a game board divided into a grid of 15x 15 squares. Each letter has a set number of points, some letters being worth more points than other.

This game can be played in many different languages and it can be adapted to suit your needs.

Picture Your Kiddos Learning a Second Language with Pictionary

This guessing word game is played in teams with players trying to identify specific words from the drawings made by teammates. You can think of it as “drawing charades.”

You can purchase the game, but it’s also really to recreate. All you need is a board and you can define the categories at the beginning of the game, write the words that the players will guess and place them in a container.

Games are a lot of fun to play and with just a few adaptations, you can make any game a great learning experience. Do you have any games that you use to practice the target language? Tell us about it in the comments!

Game & Graphics Programming

While I was still in college this was my first working experience as a game developer. Living in Caracas at the time I got contacted by LearnSafari , thanks game jams! Spanish Safari is a game or a tool for parents, with the purpose of teaching Spanish to kids in an interactive adventure game.

LearnSafari is a startup from Australia, that has multiple education games on the AppStore, the game I worked on was called Spanish Safari.

As a game developer I was in charge of many things, developing mechanics, data structures, implenting different mini-games and small features, fixing bugs, etc. Since we were a small team I also had input on game mechanics design, level design, animations, and many other things, not just programming.

It was a really good experience where I learned a lot about team work in a professional environment, project management, communication, tasks estimations, coding standards, and many more things.

Though the game isn’t a popular success, albeit justified; the target is really specific, it has good ratings in the Apple Store.

Spain set sights on ultimate Olympic prize

Spain will head to the Men’s Olympic Football Tournament Paris 2024 as one of the clear title contenders

Set to be led by an enviable crop of fresh-faced starlets – chief amongst whom are Samu Omorodion, Alberto Moleiro and Cristhian Mosquera – the Spanish will be anxious to build on their podium success at Tokyo 2020 and banish the pain of defeat in the gold-medal showdown on Japanese soil. In their quest for glory, La Roja will firstly have to navigate their way out of a Group C line-up that features tournament newcomers Uzbekistan and the Dominican Republic, as well as an Egypt side that will be competing at their 13th Games. Should the European heavyweights advance to the knockout stage, their attentions will turn to claiming a coveted podium place and a spot in the Parc des Princes showpiece on 9 August.

The coach: santi denia the coach: santi denia.

A member of the Spanish Football Association’s coaching staff since 2010, Santi Denia has enjoyed spells in charge of the U-17 and U-19 national teams, with whom he oversaw continental triumphs in 2017 and 2019 respectively. Another of the former Atletico Madrid stopper’s finest hours came when he steered La Rojita to the final of the FIFA U-17 World Cup™ in 2017, where his fledgling cubs were ultimately overpowered by an England team blessed with the talents of Phil Foden, Jadon Sancho and Conor Gallagher.

safari game in spanish

Denia, who now serves as the coach of the Spanish U-21 side and the men’s Olympic team, masterminded a run to the tournament decider at last year’s UEFA European U-21 Championship, only to see his side edged out by perennial conquerors England. The Albacete-born tactician is now primed for another shot at Olympic glory after having been a key part of Luis de la Fuente’s coaching staff at Tokyo 2020 and starred in the Spanish backline at the 1996 instalment in Atlanta. “I played at one edition of the Games myself, and it’s a dream come true for any player,” said Denia.

Spain will grace the Men’s Olympic Football Tournament for a 12th time when they run out on French soil in late July. The Spanish have set foot on the podium in four of their 11 tournament campaigns, winning silver at Antwerp 1920 before striking gold on their own patch in 1992, followed by runners-up finishes at Sydney 2000 and Tokyo 2020.

safari game in spanish

Memories of the gold medal clinched in the Catalan capital in 1992 are firmly etched in the minds of all those of a Spanish persuasion, as Kiko Narvaez’s healthy five-goal haul –including a brace in an epic final against Poland – and stellar tournament campaigns from the likes of captain Pep Guardiola, Luis Enrique and Santi Canizares propelled the hosts to glory. Rewinding to the 1920 Games, Spain earned a second-place finish and the nickname of La Furia Roja – in reference to the team’s aggressive, direct approach, which is a world away from the possession-based blueprint deployed to devastating effect by the Iberians in more recent time. However, following on from the nation’s medal success in Antwerp, Spanish fans were made to wait until the Barcelona bonanza in 1992 to see their side return to the podium.

The team at Sydney 2000, built around Barcelona midfield maestro Xavi Hernandez, endured shootout heartbreak at the hands of Cameroon in the showpiece after the Indomitable Lions had staged a roaring comeback to snatch a 2-2 draw against nine-man Spain. The Spanish squad at Tokyo 2020 also had to settle for silver, losing out to reigning champions Brazil in the final. Denia, part of the coaching staff who witnessed the defeat in Yokohama, will undoubtedly be fuelled by that disappointment as he bids to guide his troops to the next step on the podium at Paris 2024.

Spain vs. Italy highlights: Spain wins Euro 2024 showdown with own goal, score

safari game in spanish

Spain beat Italy 1-0 on Thursday in the teams’ second group stage match of Euro 2024, the only score being an own-goal despite Spain’s dominance throughout the game.

Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma made eight saves in the loss, but he couldn’t keep out a second-half deflection off defender Riccardo Calafiori.

The win clinched Spain a spot in the knockout round, while Italy will face Croatia in the final group game hoping to secure a spot in the last 16.

"We are angry," Donnarumma said after the game. "Let's use this to motivate ourselves for the next games, our destiny is in our hands."

Here’s how Thursday’s game unfolded :

Final: Spain 1, Italy 0

Riccardo Calafiori's second-half own goal earned dominant Spain a 1-0 victory over defending champions Italy on Thursday to qualify for the last 16 of Euro 2024 as Group B winners.

Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma kept his side in the game during the first half, tipping Pedri's header over and denying Alvaro Morata from a tight angle before producing a brilliant fingertip save from Fabian Ruiz's long-range effort.

Winger Nico Williams tormented Italy right back Giovanni Di Lorenzo and created the winner, sending a dangerous ball across goal which Calafiori deflected into the net in the 55th minute.

Italy barely threatened an equalizer before a late spell of possession which Spain withstood with relative ease.

Nico Williams off the crossbar

Nico Williams' curled shot clanged off the crossbar in the 70th minute, which would have been a spectacular for the 21-year-old who has been electric in Thursday's match against Italy.

Own goal! Spain 1, Italy 0 in 55th minute

All Spain's pressure finally paid off with some good fortune as a deflection off Riccardo Calafiori found the back of the net, a deserved goal for the side that had dominated the match.

It's already a fifth own goal at Euro 2024.

Second half begins, Italy makes substitutions

The second half is underway in Gelsenkirchen, with Italy making two changes at the break. Andrea Cambiaso and Bryan Cristante coming on for Jorginho and Davide Frattesi. Cristante received a yellow card less than two minutes later for his tackle on Rodri.

HALFTIME: Spain 0, Italy 0

Spain looked the better side in the first half, particularly in the early stages with Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma making three saves in the opening half hour.

Spain midfielder Rodri received a yellow card, his second of the tournament, and will now miss his country's final game of the group stage.

More Gianluigi Donnarumma saves for Italy

Spain is keeping Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma busy in the first half hour, requiring saves on a tight-angle effort by Alvaro Morata and a long-range effort from midfielder Fabian Ruiz. That's three through 30 minutes for the 25-year-old who plays for Paris Saint-Germain

Spain has had about 64.3% possession so far and are keeping the Italians pushed back on defense.

Nico Williams causing headaches for Italy

Spain has been feeding left winger Nico Williams through the first 15 minutes and the 21-year-old running all over Italy's right flank. His ball from the end line set up a Pedri header that required Gianluigi Donnarumma to make a save in the second minute and Williams had a big chance on a header a few minutes later.

Williams, who plays for Athletic Bilbao in Spain, is making his 16th international appearance.

Italy vs. Spain underway: Donnarumma makes big save early

Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was called on less than two minutes into the match, making a point-blank save on Pedri's header, which came on a pinpoint Nico Williams cross from the end line.

Donnarumma was named best player of the tournament at Euro 2020, leading Italy to the title.

Spain centre half Aymeric Laporte will make his first appearance at Euro 2024 against defending champions Italy on Thursday, replacing Nacho in the starting team for the Group B game.

Laporte was the only change for Spain manager Luis de la Fuente, who kept faith with left back Marc Cucurella while midfielder Rodri and captain Alvaro Morata start after being substituted during Saturday’s win over Croatia due to minor injuries.

Italy are unchanged from their 2-1 win over Albania with Gianluca Scamacca leading the attack and a back four including 22-year-old Riccardo Calafiori alongside Alessandro Bastoni.

The winners will advance to the round of 16 at the top of Group B. Croatia and Albania have one point apiece after two games.

Spain vs. Italy could be a ‘World Cup final’

With a faster, more direct approach than the possession-based "tiki-taka" style that made them European champions in 2008 and 2012 as well as World Cup winners in 2010, Spain manager Luis de la Fuente believes the 2024 versions of both teams are very similar in the way they play.

"We are much alike, they are also a team that are still under development, with a lot of young players and a new coach, very competitive in their approach... When I see them it's like looking at ourselves in the mirror," De la Fuente said.

"They are a team on the rise with a very good collective mindset. It will be a very balanced match between two traditional sides. It's a football classic, a clash that could easily be a Euro or World Cup final."

Lamine Yamal is youngest player in Euro 2024

Spain coach Luis de la Fuente praised Lamine Yamal after his first appearance at a major tournament on Saturday and talked up the teenager's potential to become a great player.

Yamal, at 16 the youngest player to appear at the European championship.

"Yamal is impressing everyone and going up through the levels," De la Fuente said after Spain's 3-0 thrashing of Croatia in the Group B game. "He has to keep fdimproving every day, and over time he will become a wonderful footballer," the coach added.

England vs. Denmark highlights: Frustrating draw for Three Lions

England missed the chance to book its place in the knockout stage of Euro 2024 after they were held to a 1-1 draw against Denmark in Group C on Thursday.

England took the lead in the 18th minute after the rapidly advancing Kyle Walker caught Danish defender Victor Kristiansen ambling towards the ball and the full back's low deflected cross into the box fell to captain Harry Kane who slotted it in. However, Gareth Southgate's side failed to press home their advantage, and a sloppy throw-in 16 minutes later came to Morten Hjulmand who had time and space to smash the ball low and in off the post from long range.

Euro 2020 runners-up England had been touted as tournament favorites yet struggled to fashion decent chances throughout the match. They remain on top of Group C on four points, while Denmark are second on two after Slovenia's 1-1 draw with Serbia earlier.

Euro Spain vs. Italy: ‘Most important match' of group stage

Defending champions Italy may have won their Euro 2024 opener against Albania with an unexpectedly attacking style of football, but Spain - their opponents on Thursday - are unfazed, says manager Luis de la Fuente.

He made it clear his side are not preparing for a game of finesse, however, and are getting ready for something more akin to a pitched battle.

"We are prepared to get muddy, to dig deep in a quarry and for a day in the office. Ready for everything," De la Fuente told a press conference on Wednesday.

"We know what kind of football they play and how competitive they are, so we won't be surprised. I expect a strong, aggressive Italy who will try to control possession. It is the most important match in the group stage."

Spain vs. Italy stadium

Thursday's match will be played at the Arena AufSchalke in Gelsenkirchen, the home stadium for German club FC Schalke 04.

Blue Jays’ Orelvis Martínez gets 80-game drug suspension 2 days after his major league debut

NEW YORK (AP) — Toronto Blue Jays infielder Orelvis Martínez was suspended for 80 games by Major League Baseball on Sunday following a positive test for the performance-enhancing drug Clomiphene, an announcement made two days after his major league debut .

Martínez, 22, has been on the Blue Jays’ 40-man roster since November 2022. He went 1 for 3 with a strikeout on Friday at Cleveland.

“Orelvis was upset, disappointed and pretty honest for a young kid when he told us,” Blue Jays manager John Schneider said before the team’s finale against the Guardians. “He’s obviously humbled and knows he made a mistake. We’re going to support him through the process.”

Martínez is eligible to return for the final six games of the regular season but is ineligible for any postseason games this year. He issued a statement apologizing to the Blue Jays and their fans.

“For the past two years, I have been trying to start a family with my girlfriend. During the offseason, we visited a fertility clinic in the Dominican Republic and after getting lab work done, we were prescribed a treatment, which included a medication called Rejun 50,” Martínez said in a statement released by the players’ association.

Image

“Unfortunately, Rejun 50 contains a banned substance called Clomiphene. We wanted to keep this matter private, even within our family, and trusted the doctor who assured us this treatment did not include performance-enhancing drugs. Therefore, I made the mistake of not disclosing this to my team or the MLBPA. With that said, I took full responsibility for my actions and accepted my suspension.”

Martínez signed with Toronto in July 2018 for a $3.51 million bonus and climbed his way up the Blue Jays’ minor league system. He hit .260 with 16 homers, 46 RBIs and an .867 OPS in 63 games this season at Triple-A Buffalo.

“He was unaware the substance was banned, but obviously, it’s a big mistake,” Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins said in the visiting dugout at Progressive Field. “We’re obviously extremely disappointed and very surprised.”

Martínez will lose about half his salary. His contract calls for $740,000 while in the major leagues and $120,600 while in the minors, both the minimum.

“I will learn from this experience and come back to the field in September,” Martínez said.

He became the eighth player penalized for performance-enhancing drugs this year, the second under the major league program. Noelvi Marté , a 22-year-old infielder who is the Cincinnati Reds’ top prospect, was suspended for the first 80 games of the season under the major league program following a positive test for Boldenone.

Five players have been suspended under the minor league program and one under MLB’s new drug program for minor league players assigned outside the United States and Canada.

Euro 2024 – Albania 0-1 Spain: Ferran Torres goal wins it for La Roja as Sylvinho's side eliminated

Report from Euro 2024 as Spain make 10 changes to their team and still win thanks to Ferran Torres' first-half goal; La Roja top Group B but Albania finish bottom and are eliminated; result guarantees England place in last 16

Ferran Torres celebrates with Dani Olmo after scoring for Spain against Albania at Euro 2024

Spain eliminated Albania from Euro 2024 with a 1-0 victory that made it three wins from three in Group B.

Having already qualified as group winners, Luis de la Fuente made 10 changes to his starting line-up but the fluency remained as they took the lead early on through Barcelona forward Ferran Torres.

Spain, captained by 38-year-old Jesus Navas, had chances to extend their lead through the impressive Dani Olmo and veteran striker Joselu but the second goal never did come. They did not need it.

A consequence of this result is that England, with four points from two games, are now guaranteed to reach the knockout stages regardless of what happens in their game against Slovenia on Tuesday evening.

Albania did have opportunities of their own, Arsenal's David Raya saving well from Kristjan Asllani and substitute Armando Broja. But Sylvinho's side were at their limit trying to cope with Spain's superior quality and their spirited tournament is over.

The only previous team to win every group game without conceding a goal at a European Championship are Italy three years ago and they went on to lift the trophy. With such strength in depth, a repeat of that feat cannot be ruled out.

Analysis: Spain's depth to be key?

While Gareth Southgate looks set to stick with a similar line-up for England's third and final group game at Euro 2024, still searching for that positive performance to take some serious belief into the knockout stages, his Spain counterpart was able to rotate.

Having already secured top spot in Group B thanks to two wins from two, his purring stars had to sit out the win against Albania from the start. That feels unlikely to disturb their rhythm with games coming so quickly, but it allowed others to shine.

Spain's Jesus Navas, center, duels for the ball with Albania's Rey Manaj

Torres scored the goal but there was lots to enjoy about Olmo's performance, while the full-backs Navas and Alex Grimaldo were attacking threat. Mikel Merino showed his quality in midfield. Raya made several big saves. All will have gained confidence.

All can probably expect to be back on the bench when Spain return to action in the round of 16 but they will do so having had a taste of this tournament, ready to impact the game during the second half of that one if required. It might just make a difference.

Player of the match: Ferran Torres

Spain's Ferran Torres celebrates after scoring the opening goal during a Group B match between Albania and Spain at the Euro 2024 soccer tournament in Duesseldorf, Germany, Monday, June 24, 2024. (AP Photo/Frank Augstein)

Premier League audiences hardly knew Torres, leaving as he did so early into his second season as a Manchester City player, but his record for Spain is remarkable. The winner here was his 20th goal for the national team in only 44 senior appearances.

It was a beautiful finish too, curled into the far corner with his left foot after latching onto a delightful pass into the space by Olmo. Torres is a player who makes that run from out to in so well and it continues to bring him success in front of goal.

The competition in those wide areas is clear given how Lamine Yamal has wowed everyone with his displays in Germany. But Torres offered a reminder of his reliability and will expect more minutes before Spain's Euro 2024 journey is over.
