Staff will work with each faculty member individually to discuss the appropriate modality based on learning goals, object selection, and class size. Because capacity is limited, requests should be made no later than one month in advance and will be confirmed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Brown|RISD Dual Degree Students Share Multidisciplinary Capstone Projects

Crushed quahog shells artfully fill in a crack in the sidewalk

A small group of talented and highly ambitious students is selected each year for the Brown|RISD Dual Degree (BRDD) program in which they earn degrees from RISD and Brown simultaneously over the course of five years. To close out their undergraduate careers, students present their capstone projects in the Lindemann Performing Arts Center at Brown University. This year’s group offered a captivating and emotional look into their multidisciplinary work.

One of the presenters, Ivery Chen BRDD 24 FAV , spent much of her undergraduate career learning that film and computer science were more alike than not. “Both create a powerful, immersive experience, and that’s exactly what drew me to them,” she says. Chen’s experiences during her time in the program—including creating computer games and working as an AR developer with NASA—led to her dream internship as a technical artist at animation company Pixar. “My purpose is to inspire and to awe—the same awe I felt the first time I put on a VR headset. We should all strive to create and to inspire others,” she says.

Apparel Design major Glory Lee BRDD 24 AP has been inspired by fashion since she participated in a contest designing outfits for dolls as a 10-year-old in South Korea. Today, she combines her love of design with her knack for marketing. Her senior apparel collection was presented at Collection 2024 and featured alongside her classmates’ designs in Vogue . Her looks featured a take on business office attire. “I wanted to take the audience into office fantasy while also reminding them of reality,” she says.

Izzy “Zigzag” Hettmansperger BRDD 24 IL also tapped into their childhood while creating their capstone titled Multiplicity & Bughood , comparing periods of their life with the life stages of an insect. They noted that during the COVID-19 pandemic, they rifled through their junk drawers for trinkets in their childhood home to create self-portraits—a moment that catapulted their love of creation. Hettmansperger showed a video they made about the metamorphosis that happens inside a butterfly’s chrysalis, which combined their love of the natural world with their philosophical and poetic voice.

“This process of reflection has allowed me to accept that I have been many things throughout my life and will be many things in future,” they say. “My multiplicity is one of my biggest assets.”

Sharing a personal vision of her creative practice, Mehek Gopi Vohra BRDD 24 GD , who studied graphic design and neuroscience, believes that if she could understand how human beings think and operate, she could create better designs for them. She presented a project titled Mapping Dreamscapes , which references her dream journal and investigates how dreams connect us and whether we are part of a larger, collective subconsciousness. Using artificial intelligence and creative coding, she started understanding the basics of interaction design.

Giant rubber chicken emerging from red building

Naya Lee Chang BRDD 24 FD draws on her life experiences but focuses on the intersection of art and history in her work. Reflecting on her fascination with monuments, she channeled her artistic perspective and added a prosthetic arm to a statue of Caesar Augustus on Brown’s campus that had lost an arm somewhere along the way. “Debates over monuments sparked my interest in public space,” she says. “Every account of history is an interpretation.”

Chang presented numerous public art projects she created at RISD and Brown, including a piece in which she recreated the reception desk that used to stand in the bank that is now the Fleet Library at RISD. She also set up a scavenger hunt for viewers with information about the building to provide context and gave them the opportunity to win a 20th-century safe deposit box pulled from the vault beneath the library.

These are just a few of the excellent capstone projects that were presented in late May. To learn about all 14 dual degree graduates, visit this year’s capstone presentations website .

Fulfilling his promise to 'get back', Paul will return to France, Spain and the UK with his Got Back  tour. Earlier this month, Paul announced his first live shows of 2024 with the next leg of the tour launching in South America this October.

With songs like ‘Hey Jude’, ‘Live and Let Die’, ‘Band on the Run’,  ‘Let It Be’ and so many more, the Paul McCartney live experience is everything any music lover could ever want from a rock show: hours of the greatest moments from the last 60 years of music – dozens of songs from Paul’s solo, Wings and of course Beatles catalogues that have formed the soundtracks of our lives.

This will mark Paul’s first European show since his iconic Glastonbury headlining performance in 2022. Paul launched his Got Back tour in 2022, completing 16 huge shows across the US before performing his history-making set at Glastonbury in June 2022. In 2023 Paul performed 18 incredible shows as the Got Back tour rocked through Australia, Mexico and Brazil.

Golden Ring Tours Immerse in Russian heritage, architectural masterpieces & stunning landscapes.

Golden ring tours overview.

Our Golden Ring Tours take place close to Russia's capital Moscow, yet seemingly a world away, adventuring to the beautifully preserved ancient cities of the Golden Ring route is a must. The cities of the Golden Ring are perfect destinations for travellers seeking the idyllic, provincial Mother Russia of old. A must short detour when Visiting Moscow. Scattered across a rural landscape of rolling hills, flower blanketed meadows, rivers and streams. The cities of the Golden Ring were considered political backwaters by the time Soviet industrialisation took hold, escaping much of the urban progress that rapidly engulfed Moscow and its surroundings. Consequently, many locals to the Golden Ring still lead a largely traditional existence, living in tight-knit communities where the ancestral izba (wooden farmhouse) is the centre of daily life.

 Golden Ring Russia, Travel Highlights:

  • Regarded as open-air museums, be enthralled by many of the Golden Ring’s ancient settlements and architectural masterpieces . These include the UNESCO-listed monasteries and onion-dome cathedrals in Yaroslavl, the white stone monuments of Vladimir (the Golden Gates, the church of Boris and Gleb), and the medieval wooden houses and windmills in Suzdal.
  • Our Golden Ring Tours facilitate immersion in the colourful culture of provincial Russia. Towns such as Ivanovo and Kostroma still maintain a largely traditional way of life. When you visit the Golden ring, be sure to try the delicious traditional Russian cuisine, admire time-honoured handicrafts and unearth ancient relics of the Soviet times.
  • Discover the sacred places of the orthodox religion at their many cathedrals, churches and historical monuments like the Trinity Lavra of Saint Sergius, the Holy Assumption Cathedral and the Cathedral of Transformation.
  • Uncover the age-old allure of Russia by delving into the rich history and legends of the Golden Ring. From Russian princes and knights to the early Tsars and Mongol invasions, you will experience something straight out of a fairytale.
  • Admire the stunning natural landscapes of the Golden Ring dominated by rippling meadows, lush green forests and winding rivers used to link fortified towns in the middle ages.

Many Golden Ring cities date back to at least the 10th century, and played a vital role in Medieval history, associated with the formation of the Russian Orthodox Church, the reign of Tsars and the Mongol Invasions. When you go on a Golden Ring tour, you will notice that virtually every town is a living museum, made up of ancient forts, towering monasteries, imposing palaces and magnificent cathedrals. Recognised for their artistic merit as an important place in history, four sites on the Golden Ring circuit have gained UNESCO World Heritage Site status, including the 1,000-year-old city of Yaroslavl.

Nearly six albums into her career, Carpenter made Hot 100 history with her new single “Please Please Please” debuting at No. 2, and “Espresso” rising to a new peak of No. 3 on the list. The 25-year-old singer-songwriter became the first solo act in the history of the Billboard chart to land two simultaneous top-three hits without having previously charted in that realm.

“Please Please Please” was completed by a cinematic music video starring “Saltburn” star and Carpenter’s real-life boyfriend, Barry Keoghan. The song was co-written with Amy Allen, who also helped pen “Espresso.”

The singles will appear on her new album, “Short n’ Sweet,” due out Aug. 23. “This project is quite special to me and [I] hope it’ll be something special to you too,” she wrote on social media with the announcement. Half of the LP was produced by Jack Antonoff, along with returning collaborator, Julian Bunetta, as reported by Rolling Stone.

Carpenter released her fifth album “Emails I Can’t Send” in 2022 , as well as its deluxe edition “Emails I Can’t Send Fwd” the following year. It became her highest-charting to date and boasted a hot single “Nonsense,” a song that caught fire after she provided alternate closing lyrics while opening for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in South America and Australia. She also toured the album on her own 80-date headlining world tour.
