Disney Booking

I'm really impressed with everything Corrie has done for us. She went out of your way to help us and I know bookings with disabilities are more time consuming. But she has made something stressful a lot easier for us and kept us updated on what was going on every step of the way. Stay clear of Dundee Ramsay Travel

Never will I ever use this company again. After asking to change holiday dates on an Easyjet booking, which I already paid £375. The holiday on Easyjet was £1200, Ramsay Travel wanted me to pay £1500 plus the £375 I had already paid. I understand they need to make a profit but £675 dearer than the online booking? ???? ?? NEVER..... ROBBERS... NEVER AGAIN..

Andrew Malcolm absolutely knew his job. He was very knowledgeable and listened to what we were wanting/not wanting. He spent a lot of time getting us the best deal - trying different routes/times/etc. We were heading to Trailfinders and only went in to Ramsay Travel to get a quote. Thailand holiday next…

Booked Thailand holiday and leave next week!, but after numerous calls to the Dundee branch still no tickets arrived! Just called again and even though I'd been told they would be emailed as soon as they have them apparently they are on the supervisors desk waiting to be checked before they post them!!! Stressful enough going in holiday without having to worry about this, would be good to have the flight numbers so I could book seats on the planes.

Multi Centre USA Honeymoon

Great Service and Competitive Prices

Due to a sudden and unexpected illness we had to cancel our 12 night European Explorer at short notice. We discussed the options with Ewan who was professional and efficient in helping us rebook the same holiday for later in the year. Personalised experience and working to a budget

I can't thank Lewis enough from the Dunfermline office. I phoned as had my dream holiday to Thailand with Tui cancelled (Christmas 2023 and new year) and moved the flight by a day. I had a budget and Lewis managed to rebook my holiday and came in on budget. Brilliant personal customer service. All going well, I now know who to use to book my future destinations with.

Ramsay travel Dundee....AVOID!!

Ramsay travel Dundee.....phoned them to enquire about a non package holiday and had also been looking at a Tui package for Easter so, gave them a chance to quote. I always go direct but thought I'd give them a chance as they are an independent. They quoted me slightly higher than Tui direct (even though their Facebook page boasts of almost always smashing the 'big boys' and offer customer service 2nd to none) When I mentioned the Tui price, Hamish matched it. I thought fair enough, I've got a travel agent to deal with everything so surely will take some of the usual organising away. How wrong I was! Before departure, I phoned to ask if I had prebooked seats or if they'd asked Tui for passenger assist as my young daughter is Type 1 diabetic. Has she got autism was the agents question to me. No, she's type 1 diabetic I told you. Oh, well it's normally only folk with autism that need passenger assist he replied! I went on my holiday with my 2 children and, on check in at antalya airport, was hit with a 30 EURO charge because I didn't check in online apparently. I'd booked through this travel agent who made no reference to check in online and,on heading out at Newcastle, this wasn't mentioned either. Although a Tui holiday, the flight was with Corendon, a Turkish equivalent of easyjet. Was not impressed with any of Ramsays 'customer service' or the additional charges and ludicrous sweeping disability comment. Back to booking direct for me from now on...absolutely no benefit to using this travel agent whatsoever!

So had rome booked for months

So had rome booked for months, due to go in December 23, Ryanair changed the return flight to a day later which wasn't feasible as I had work commitments. I've had to fight Ramsay World Travel Dundee for my money back, this was fully refundable but they insisted they couldn't pay it back as they had paid Ryanair and had to wait for the funds coming back. Nonsense that is, then cause I wasn't willing to accept that they paid in £441 of what was paid. But stated I'll need to apply to Ryanair to get the remaining balance of £277. Terrible company to deal with and I'll never use them again.

Have dealt with Ramsay Travel (Aberdeen) for many years now and have found them to be very efficient and helpful. They have always given us good recommendations for well situated hotels, pre holiday, which have been very comfortable. They also try to give us alternative suggestions to save us money etc.

Awful customer service

Awful customer service. Sent my booking confirmation with the wrong airport and wrong flight times, called to discuss and booked parking for me FOC due to error. Got the confirmation for this and another error as they had put wrong car registration. Have tried to contact many times and they will not get back to me.

Dundee branch appalling service

My holiday to Barcelona booked through the dundee branch was cancelled and unfortunately I made the mistake of booking another holiday whilst on the phone to Alan. This holiday cost more and I was reassured I had till the end of the month to pay it. I ended up being harassed whilst on a current holiday however via missed calls, voicemails and emails to pay this extra amount! Tried to cancel the new holiday and was told it would cost £180, despite being a regular customer and alan not even replying to my last email asking if the fee could be waived just this once. Wont book with them again and won't recommending them to anyone.

Give Ramsay World Travel a Go! You won't be disappointed.

We had to make 3 trips into the shop before we decided what holiday trip was right for us and each time we were made very welcome by the courteous staff. Danielle McLeod was excellent in dealing with all our questions and queries on where we would like to go. Danielle provided us great choices of destinations and even cruises which we had not even considered. Once a resort was decided Danielle made sure it would tick all the boxes for us (our requirements and more). it was just so much better and if I can say easier than doing it online ourselves. So here's to our trip in a few weeks time and looking forward to it! Would honestly recommend visiting RWT for that more personal touch and easing you through any pitfalls that you may come across when doing it yourself. Thank You Ramsay World Travel and Danielle.

Hi - booked a place on Booking.com yesterday, £627 for a triple room which seemed reasonable condition and in a good location. Thought it seemed like a much better deal than others so went ahead and booked it once i'd checked the reviews.

I received an email today from the hotel which reads as follows:

"Due to security reasons please send us a copy of card holder's passport, credit card (front and back) and filled in guest authorisation form. YOu are requested to provide the above requirements in 48 hours after receiving this email, otherwise the reservation will be cancelled. *link to guest authorisation form*

I've been on the phone to booking.com and my card holder with the concern that it's a scam. I'm obviously not going to send them any details, but I might have a fight to get my money back (non-refundable booking). I've found that the place isn't listed on Trip Advisor and the reviews all appear to be from the same weekend (last weekend). Booking.com said they'v e been listed for a year but didn't have any bookings last year

So my only question is - is there any chance at all this ISN'T dodgy? Like could this be a common thing for Moscow hotels/bed and breakfasts to do?

They are cheating. Seems they made comments to make a new place becoming. They are not acting fully in good faith.

That's really the point that I want Booking.com - the extent to which they can actually verify reviews such as those. Like have the reviewers reviewed other hotels, or just that one or others owned by the same company?

I have very little update on this BTW so don't know where I stand. No responses from Booking.com or Lesnoy and they said if I didn't send the information they would cancel my booking so who knows what will happen.

The thing that worries me also is that I booked a triple room, not a whole apartment. So a random apartment in a block seems unlikely to host a room like that I think.

Oh and just to add the charge has come through on my credit card so I now have to go to the bank to contest it if I don't get a satisfactory answer from them.

"Notary" like a lawyer? I thought that would be the apartment block but maybe not!

It is an apartment block house. Sometimes the ground floor (BTW in Russia it is called the 1st floor) is occupied (or partly occupied) by non-living premises. In this house there is a notary office with the entrance from the facade. The entrance to the living apartments is on the other side.

Today I had a look on Booking.com just to see the availability of accommodations in Moscow and I realised that now there is a lot of accommodations available even in the best locations of Moscow (e.g. Red square) for reasonable prices. WoW what happen recently?

There was no hard sell. Nick was knowledgable & did his best to get us the best deal. We ended up going for another country than the one we had planned.

Excessive Booking Fee

After using them over a period of many years, I was quite disappointed to realise that they charged me what seems an over inflated booking fee for a return flight to France. I went in and told them the airline and times I wished to book and it appears that they charged me c£50 for this! When I queried this I was brushed off with a comment akin to "you should have brought this up when booking." Booking fee was never mentioned at time of booking and no invoice regarding booking fee was issued. When I asked about a itemised invoice I was basically told I wasn't getting one and this from a "Manager" who was on the phone to another customer at the time! Not impressed.

Thailand holiday next…

Booked Thailand holiday and leave next week!, but after numerous calls to the Dundee branch still no tickets arrived! Just called again and even though I'd been told they would be emailed as soon as they have them apparently they are on the supervisors desk waiting to be checked before they post them!!! Stressful enough going in holiday without having to worry about this, would be good to have the flight numbers so I could book seats on the planes.

Never will I ever use this company again. After asking to change holiday dates on an Easyjet booking, which I already paid £375. Japan Likes Tourists, Just Not This Many

The country has politely handled travelers for years, but as international visitors spill into previously untouristed spots, some residents are frustrated.

The writer spent several days elbowing through crowds in Kyoto and Fuji City, Japan.

On two recent occasions, a foreign tourist walked into Shoji Matsumoto’s barbershop, through a front door that grates loudly when opened more than halfway, wanting a haircut.

One was Italian, the other British. Mr. Matsumoto, who is 75 and speaks neither of their languages, didn’t know what to tell them. He picked up his scissors and began to cut, hoping that his decades of experience would carry him through the stilted encounters.

Tourists, propelled in part by a weak yen that makes their money go further in Japan, have been pouring into the country ever since it eased its coronavirus-related entry restrictions in 2022. Some officials, including Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, have raised concerns about overtourism. In March, there were more than three million international arrivals, a monthly record, and a more than 10 percent jump compared with March 2019.

Nearly two thirds of international visitors tend to be from South Korea, Taiwan and China. Last year, spending from foreign tourists made up about 9 percent of Japan’s gross domestic product.

Popular sites in cities like Kyoto, Japan’s ancient royal capital, feel increasingly unmanageable. Visitors are spilling into previously untouristed places, like small towns near Mount Fuji or the commercial district of Kyoto where Mr. Matsumoto cuts hair.

“Before, it was normal to see tourists in certain spots,” Mr. Matsumoto said from a low chair in his barbershop on a recent Saturday. “But now, they’re spreading out to random and unexpected places.”

That influx is testing the patience of a generally polite society.

In Kyoto and other heavily visited cities, some residents grumble about being priced out of hotel rooms or crowded out of buses and restaurants. Others say that tourists sometimes disrespect local customs by, say, chasing after geishas to photograph them or eating while walking, a behavior that is considered rude in Japan.

One day last month, it took Hiroshi Ban six hours — twice as long as usual — to visit Kyoto’s Heian Jingu shrine. Mr. Ban, 65, attributed the delay partly to tourists who hold up buses by counting out coins for the fare.

“Every day feels like a carnival here,” said Mr. Ban, an event organizer. “We can’t enjoy our daily lives in peace.”

Even those who directly benefit from tourism revenue worry that it might be unsustainable.

Hisashi Kobayashi, a taxi driver in Kyoto, said business was so good that taking a day off felt like passing up easy money. But many tourism-related industries were struggling to keep up with demand as they recovered from pandemic-era labor shortages, he said.

“When Japanese people come here, they feel they’re in a foreign land because there are so many tourists,” Mr. Kobayashi, 56, added as his taxi approached a bottleneck near a popular temple. “It’s not Kyoto anymore.”

Some rural locations are feeling the strain for the first time. One is Fuji City, about 200 miles by road east of Kyoto in Shizuoka Prefecture.

After a bridge with a direct view of Mount Fuji started to become popular on social media late last year, Shizuoka’s tourism department said on Instagram that it was a good spot for “beautiful, dreamlike pictures.” Left unsaid was that the bridge sat in a residential area with no visitor parking spaces, public toilets or garbage cans.

Many visitors littered, parked in driveways and in some cases dodged traffic to take photos from the bridge’s median strip, residents said in interviews.

Over a public holiday last month, about 300 tourists arrived daily for four days, standing in a line for photos that coiled down the street, said Mitsuo Kato, 86, who lives by the bridge.

“They just park here,” Mr. Kato said outside his home on a recent Sunday, as groups of tourists from South Korea diligently took photos of clouds that were obscuring Mount Fuji. “So we had to put up signs.”

Officials across Japan have been responding to the tourism surge with varying degrees of efficacy.

In Fuji City, the authorities erected a makeshift six-car parking lot and started to build a larger one that would fit 15 cars and include a bathroom, said Motohiro Sano, a local tourism official.

In a neighboring prefecture, Yamanashi, officials in the town of Fujikawaguchiko put up a billboard-size screen last month to deter tourists from photographing a Lawson convenience store whose blue awning sits beneath the mountain and became a staple of social media posts. The screen is now dotted with holes large enough to fit a phone camera lens, the local news media reported .

In Shibuya, a heavily visited area of Tokyo, officials announced plans to ban drinking alcohol outdoors at night in an attempt to curb bad behavior by young people and tourists.

And in Kyoto, where signs in train stations ask visitors to “mind your manners,” the government began running special buses for tourists this month.

At the city’s Nishiki market, where some residents have complained of finding grease stains on their clothing after squeezing through throngs of snacking tourists, Yoshino Yamaoka gestured to two signs hanging outside her barbecue eel restaurant.

Both said in English, “No eating while walking.” One had a larger font, and its text was underlined in red.

“People weren’t following it, so I put up this one with a stricter tone,” Ms. Yamaoka, 63, said of the bolder sign. But she wondered whether her new approach was too strict.

“Business depends on the tourists,” she said.

To beat the crowds on a recent weekend, some tourists visited popular Kyoto sites at sunrise or waited 40 minutes to eat at a popular ramen joint at 11 p.m. A few complained about the congestion they had helped to create.

“It’s a disaster,” said Paul Oostveen, 70, a tourist from the Netherlands, after leaving the Kiyomizu-dera Temple, a popular attraction.

From his empty barbershop, Mr. Matsumoto said that he had successfully cut the hair of his two foreign clients and that he wouldn’t turn away others who stumbled through his door.

But he worried about providing good quality service to customers he couldn’t understand, he said, and would prefer that non-Japanese speakers go elsewhere.

Even though tourism is good for the nation, he added over the drone of a radio, “There’s a part of me that’s not fully content.”
