The Crown Grill Steakhouse is Princess’ signature steakhouse found on most of its cruise ships. The venue prides itself on its selection of fine cuts of steak and seafood.

Princess Cruises Crown Grill

Crown Grill has a cover charge of $29 per person. It includes a full meal with one main course. Additional main courses cost $10 each.

You can expect a 1.5 to a two-hour dining experience in the steakhouse unless you want to catch a show, then advise your server ahead of time and they will expedite your meal.

Even though guests tend to use the steak house for special occasions like anniversaries or birthdays, you by no means need to wear a suit and tie. As long as you’re wearing nice slacks or dark jeans, you’ll be fine.

The venue is quiet and set off the main walkway, usually with a bar dividing the steakhouse from people passing by.

Today’s Bonus Cruising Tip

I ALWAYS buy  travel insurance  (especially during these uncertain times) to cover my cruises, but I  NEVER purchase it through Princess. It costs more and usually covers less than policies you purchase on your own. I go through sites like  travelinsurance.com  to compare plans and prices and get the best deal for the coverage I want.  Spend less on insurance  and spend more on cocktails, excursions, special onboard cruise experiences, and…future cruises!

Princess cruise dining FAQ

Sit-down meals in the main dining room, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, are always included on a Princess cruise, and the menu varies somewhat daily. Also included is a buffet, either called World Fresh Marketplace or Horizon Court, depending on the ship, as well as fast casual and grab-and-go spots on board that serve pizza, tacos, burgers, pastries and ice cream.

Specialty restaurants including Crown Grill, Princess's steak and seafood house, and Sabatini's, the signature Italian restaurant, require a surcharge that's priced at a flat rate per adult or child; some menu items also require an additional surcharge no matter the age of the guest.

Are drinks included on Princess cruise ships?

Select beverages are always included: iced tea, hot tea, brewed coffee, hot chocolate, milk, fruit juice, lemonade and tap water. Everything else, including soft drinks, wine, beer, cocktails, spirits and specialty coffees, must either be purchased a la carte or through one of the cruise line's beverage packages .

Do I need reservations?

Reservations are encouraged for the main dining room and the specialty restaurants, and it's best to make them as early as possible ; walk-in parties will be accommodated on a space-available basis. Guests can make reservations via the Princess MedallionClass app or at guest services once you're on board. If you wish to eat at the same time every night, you can do so by reserving your tables in advance.

Platinum and Elite Captain's Circle members have early access to reservations. Passengers booked in a Full Suite or Reserve Collection Mini-Suite don't need to make dining reservations as they will always be accommodated; they also have access to a dedicated space in the main dining room with expedited seating and an expanded menu.

Does Princess Cruises have an evening dress code?

"Smart casual" attire will be appropriate for the main dining room, buffet and fast-casual restaurants. You might want to pack something dressier for the specialty restaurants or one of the more upscale dining experiences like Chef's Table, 360 or a winemaker dinner.

On sailings that are five nights or longer, there will be one or more formal nights, which do require adhering to a dress code in the dining venues . Cocktail dresses, evening gowns or dressy pantsuits are appropriate for women, while dark suits, tuxedos or dinner jackets and slacks are required for men , along with dressy footwear. If you don't want to dress up or forgot appropriate attire, you're welcome to dine at the buffet or any of the other casual dining options on board during formal night.

Is there assigned seating in the main dining room?

There is no assigned seating at any dining venues on board Princess ships. However, if you are a solo diner or part of a couple or small group, your host might ask if you would like to sit with another party of a similar size in the main dining room; the choice is up to you.

What if I have dietary restrictions?

You can use the Cruise Personalizer to indicate your dietary preferences, including requests for low-sodium, low-fat, low-sugar and vegetarian diets. Kosher meals and baby food are available with advanced written requests. If you have allergies or medical needs related to food, you must inform Princess in writing — check the line's website for more details. Princess Cruises also recently introduced a series of vegan menus for dinner in the main dining room, including starters, soups, salads, pastas and main dishes.

Where can I get snacks on board?

You'll find lots of spots to grab a quick bite, dessert or coffee, including Coffee & Cones, Patisserie, Swirls Ice Cream Bar, The Pastry Shop, International Cafe and Gelateria — options vary depending on the ship. Food at these venues is included, but there is a charge for specialty coffees and teas unless you have a beverage package.

Is room service included on Princess Cruises?

Guests can use the designated button on their cabin's phone to order room service 24 hours a day; each order incurs a $5 delivery fee, which is waived for those with Princess Plus or Princess Premier status.

You can also use the OceanNow feature in the Princess Medallion Class app to order food to be delivered to your cabin or anywhere else on the ship, like the pool deck. This feature is included with Princess Plus and Princess Premium; otherwise, there is a one-time access fee of $14.99 per person per voyage and a $5 delivery fee per order. Food and beverage surcharges may apply for some items ordered via room service.

PRINCESS CRUISES

Ultimate Guide to Princess Cruises Drinks Prices & Menus

In this post you’ll find the  Princess Cruises drinks menus and prices , correct as of 2022. Is a drinks package worth it? Making a decision about purchasing a drinks package can be difficult, so this post is designed to help you.

I was fortunate to sail on Sky Princess in August 2021 and April 2022. I took photos of the Princess Cruises drinks menus with prices whilst onboard to help you to plan your budget.

Princess Cruises Drinks Guide

On Princess, drinks can be purchased individually or with a drinks package. Princess Cruises drinks packages can be purchased in advance or within the first two days of getting onboard. If you decide to wait until you get onboard, the beverage package price is added to your onboard account and paid at the end of your cruise.

Take a look at my Complete Guide the Princess Cruises Drinks Packages 2022

There are no advantages to waiting until you get on your cruise to buy the drinks package. The price is the same whether you purchase in advance or on embarkation day.

Instead of a beverage package, you may want to consider Princess Plus or Princess Premier. In almost all cases, Princess Plus offers the best value to cruisers as it includes a drinks package along with WiFi and crew gratuities/incentives.

Take a look at my guide to Princess Plus to find out when it might not be the best choice.

Princess Premier is a new package that has been introduced in 2022 so I’d recommend taking a look at my breakdown of what’s included in the Princess Premier Package to see if it’s worth it.

This Princess Cruises drinks guide provides you with the individual prices, sourced from bar menus onboard. Although these prices are from Sky Princess, the prices seem to be the same across all Princess Cruises’ ships.

The Plus Beverage Package includes all drinks up to $12, the Premier Beverage Package includes all drinks up to $18. all alcoholic drinks by the glass
If you choose a drink that is greater than the beverage package limit, you must pay the individual drink’s price in full (new change to package rules).

Beer on Princess Cruises

There’s only one non-alcoholic lager available – Heineken 0.0 at $5.50.

Princess Cruises Drinks Menu: Ciders

There are only two ciders available on Princess ships. There are no berry fruit ciders at present on any of the menus.

White Wine List on Princess Cruises

Most of the wine on Princess Cruises can be purchased from the bars by the glass or by the bottle. If you have the Plus or Premier Beverage Packages, wine by the glass is included but you can only get a 25% discount when buying a bottle.

Princess Cruises Drinks Menu: Red Wine List

The best place to enjoy wine on Princess ships is at Vines Wine Bar, usually located on Deck 5 of the Piazza. Here you have access to wines you cannot find anywhere else on the ship.

The Norman Love Wine Flight pairs wine with chocolate for those who love both!

In certain bars you will be able to order Champagne cocktails. It’s more likely the inside bars will do these such as Take Five, Bellini’s and Vines.

Price for Crown Grill

Cool Cruiser

Just noticed that cost of eating in the Crown Grill is now A$63 per person. Last time I cruised with Princess I paid A$42. If my maths is correct, that is a 50 percent increase in about 12 months.

With the additional charges now to eat at Alfredo's, it looks like my love affair with Princess is looking a little shaky.

Am I being unfair to Princess?

Princess wants you to buy plus or premier. Sounds like they keep making it more enticing to do so....

Not long before it jumped to $42 it was $A29. I used to visit Crown Grill and other Speciality Restaurants at least once per every 7 days of a cruise. These price increases have now put them beyond what I consider good value, so I have cut back. My upcoming 22 day cruise I'll go Specialty Restaurants twice. We get the Plus package but these restaurants are not included and the Premier package isn't worth it in my opinion.

Thanks

Not included with Plus, only Premier.

Different price points for different customers, but the aim is the same. Upselling the packages before people get on board.

@bonox55 , I think you are being a little unfair. When was the last time you sailed with Princess? I think the Crown grill was $29 (USD) a long while ago , then was increased to $39 and used to have the gratuity included in that prince, but believe as of Dec 1, 2023, 18% is now added so the total cost is now about $46 USD if you are paying out of pocket. Assume since you are quoting Aussie dollars where prices have gratuity included assume $A63 is comparable with current exchange rates of $USD46.

If you compare steakhouse specialty dining on other cruiselines, specifically, Carnival, Royal Caribbean and Celebrity, Princess Crown Grill at $39 USD is quite competitive and considerably lower.

We recently did a Christmas cruise on the Discovery and had a fantastic meal at the Crown Grill. I thought the $42 per person was a steal. We regularly have dinner at Kreg’s chophouse or Charley’s in Orlando and I consider myself fortunate if we can get out for $100 pp.

With everything going up $63 is still a steal for a good steak.

@Aexboeingdriver , the OP is quoting Aussie dollars so $A63 is about $USD46, which as you have stated is a decent fare for a steak dinner.

5,000+ Club

In Oct/Nov 2023 it was AU$53 and it was very good

Please confirm if prices are US or AU

I agree at face value, however the cost of Specialty Dining should really be the difference between the average main Dining Room cost which you have already paid for and the uncharged for Specialty.

I'm Canadian and my Princess app has Crown Grill priced at $63 per person. It doesn't specify the currency, but I've only ever seen USD on Princess apps.

I just checked the APP for my upcoming Ruby sailing LA to YVR on April 7, 2024 and Crown Grill was showing priced at $39. As of Dec 1, 2023 an additional 18% service charge will be added unless you are being comped for the meal from Premier package or other means.

What sailing and ship are you checking? If the ship is ‘down under’ then pricing will most likely reflect Aussie $ which would explain the $63 price.

California Coastal cruise in September. I wonder if there's a plan to increase rates soon?

Is it possible the ship you are sailing on in September is currently ‘down under’? So the APP is pricing based on it’s current location?

@HikaruTsuki , I also just checked my Sapphire August/September 14 day Alaska sailing 2024, for reserving Sterling Steakhouse for a date in September and the price shown was $39. So since the OP posted $A63, I am thinking you are getting Aussie $ pricing for some reason.

If the cruise is out of Australia/New Zealand then all charges are in AUD. Additionally, any "free" OBC you may qualify for such as Shareholder OBC will be automagically converted at a ration of 1:1 to AUD. In other words your OBC will be devalued to approximately 65¢ on the dollar.

I think the OP it trying to justify the huge increase in such a short space of time much higher than inflation. Just prior to COVID it was only 25AUD so we are talking a 252% increase in 5 years  in AU pricing or a 460% increase on USD comparison over a 13 year period when it was only 10USD for specialty dining -  so the posters point is valid irrespective of what other changes are going on with Princess.

I was initially going to book a Crown Grill for DH and I on our upcoming cruise, but then I saw it was $63 per person .  I live in Hawaii, I don't pay $63USD for a steak meal here , let alone on a cruise where I'm already paying per day to be there.

In my opinion, that is just far too much for a corn-fed steak.

The $63 price is Aussie $. Crown grill sailing everywhere else where the on board currency is USD is currently priced at $39 plus 18% service charge per person.

I'm looking at my phone application, which is showing $63. The other $ amounts in the app are appropriate USD cost, such as the Plus package valid for up to $15 in drinks.

Very strange for it just to show AUS $ for the specialty meals when everything else is USD.

Strange. I just booked one of the Specialty restaurants on the App for a cruise on Sky in July and it showed $39 which I assumed was $US and it was. My credit card was charged $US78 which converted to $AUD118. (so the good news is that with conversion, as at today, the cost in Aussie $ is about $59pp not $63 as mentioned a few times above. Bargain 🙄

Not all OBC is converted to USD 1:1. OBC due on casino bookings is converted at the current rate of the sailing date, it was 2:6 on our last cruise.

OBC due from Shareholder credit is granted in AUD per the shareholder benefit document, not converted from USD.

My biggest concern was that they offered an exchange rate of 1:1 when using USD gift cards to pay charges made in AUD.

For our Australian cruise last Oct/Nov, however you look at it, when our OBCs (promo, military, FCC, Shareholder, TA) were all posted to our Folio, the amounts posted were exactly what we would have received if we had been on any non AU cruise.  I did pass Math classes so not sure why all our OBCs would not be considered 1for 1.  .

Princess Cruises ships ranked by size from biggest to smallest — the complete list

Gene Sloan

Are you looking for the most venue-packed, resort-like Princess Cruises ships at sea? If so, you'll want to get on one of the biggest Princess cruise ships.

The biggest Princess cruise ships are, by their very nature, the Princess ships with the most onboard restaurants, bars and showrooms, as well as the most sprawling decktop pool and lounge areas. The biggest Princess ships have the biggest casinos and spas among ships in the Princess fleet and the most cabins and suites — as well as the most variation in cabin and suite types.

With room for 4,000 passengers or more, the biggest Princess ships are truly large resorts of the sort you find at the biggest vacation destination on land. If you're in the "bigger is better" camp when it comes to a resort experience, these are the Princess ships for you.

For more cruise news, guides and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

Still, Princess doesn't just operate large vessels. The Los Angeles-based cruise giant — the fifth largest cruise line in the world — also has several relatively small cruise ships in its fleet that carry just 2,000 or 3,000 people and have a more intimate feel. In some cases, these vessels are nearly 50% smaller than the size of Princess Cruises' biggest ships. These smaller ships, notably, have less deck-top pool space and fewer interior venues than the biggest Princess cruise ships. However, with fewer people on board, that's not necessarily a bad thing.

The smallest Princess cruise ships are best for vacationers who like a more intimate, less crowded resort experience.

What is the biggest Princess cruise ship?

The biggest Princess cruise ship is the 4,300-passenger Sun Princess , which is also the line's newest vessel. It just debuted in February.

Sun Princess is the first vessel in Princess Cruises' new Sphere Class of ships, which have been designed to be much bigger and more venue-packed than the vessels in the line's last new series of ships, the Royal Class.

Sun Princess measures 177,882 gross tons, which is about 22% bigger than the biggest ship in the Royal Class (the 145,000-ton Discovery Princess). Royal Class ships range in size from 142,229 to 145,000 gross tons.

Note that gross tons is a size measurement referring to interior space, not weight.

A second ship in the Sphere Class series, Star Princess, is under construction at a shipyard in Italy and will debut in October 2025 .

For more details on Sun Princess, including what venues are on board and what it's like to sail on the vessel, see TPG's comprehensive first look at Sun Princess after an early sailing.

What is the smallest Princess cruise ship?

The smallest Princess cruise ship is the 2,000-passenger Coral Princess. Measuring just 91,267 gross tons, it's about 36% smaller than Discovery Princess, making it a significantly smaller vessel.

Coral Princess dates to 2002, a time when cruise ships were built far smaller than they are today and with far fewer venues. At 21 years old, it's also one of the two oldest vessels in the Princess fleet and will probably be phased out sometime in the next decade.

Related: The ultimate guide to Princess Cruises

While significantly smaller than the newest Princess ships, Coral Princess still has many of the signature spaces and venues found on new Princess vessels, including an Italian eatery called Sabatini's and a steakhouse.

Entertainment venues on Coral Princess include a relatively large main theater for production shows, a secondary lounge that offers comedy shows and other entertainment, and a casino. Like other Princess ships, the top deck of the vessel is mostly devoted to pool areas with hot tubs and lounge chairs. There's also a spa.

While smaller and older than the typical Princess ship, Coral Princess has a loyal following among Princess fans who prefer smaller and more intimate ships.

Are bigger Princess cruise ships coming?

It's not clear yet. Princess currently has one new ship on order, Star Princess. But the final size of Star Princess won't be known until the vessel debuts in late 2025.

Star Princess will be the second vessel in the new Sphere Class of ships at Princess. It's likely to be very similar in size to the first vessel in the series, the new Sun Princess. But it's not uncommon for each new vessel in a series to be slightly bigger than the one before.

Star Princess is currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard near Monfalcone, Italy.

Note that this isn't the first time Princess has named a ship Sun Princess or Star Princess. Both are recycled names from past Princess ships. Princess operated smaller vessels under the Sun Princess and Star Princess names up until 2020.

What's the difference between bigger and smaller Princess ships?

The biggest Princess cruise ships have room for more onboard venues and attractions than smaller Princess ships. That makes them more alluring for vacationers who prefer a big resort experience with lots of options as compared to a stay at a smaller resort.

On the biggest Princess vessels, the Sphere Class and Royal Class vessels, you'll find the largest piazza-like central atriums in the Princess fleet surrounded by lots of bars and restaurants; multiple entertainment venues for live shows, comedy acts and more; and expansive pool decks with more space for sunning than you'll find on smaller Princess vessels.

You'll also find some only-on-the-Royal-class-ships extras, including, on some of the Royal Class ships, a glass-floored "SeaWalk" that extends over the side of the vessel.

Related: The 5 best destinations you can visit on a Princess ship

Princess' smaller cruise ships also are generally its older cruise ships and lack some of the above features, which are more typical of newer ships. These smaller Princess ships have a more intimate feel, at least in the pantheon of relatively big, mass-market ships, and they hold fewer people.

While Sphere Class and Royal Class ships can hold more than 4,500 passengers with every berth full, the line's smaller vessels (particularly the relatively small Island Princess and Coral Princess) often sail with just 2,000 or so passengers on board.

That makes the smaller Princess ships a good choice for someone who wants to try Princess but isn't eager to travel with huge crowds. The smallest ships in the Princess fleet thus appeal to a subset of Princess fans who prefer more intimacy in a cruise vessel and don't mind giving up some onboard amenities to get it. They are also often less expensive to sail on, on a per-day basis.

Related: Don't miss out on these Princess loyalty perks

In addition, because of their size, the smallest ships at Princess Cruises are able to operate itineraries to places that aren't as easy for big ships to visit. Not all ports in the world can handle a ship the size of Sun Princess.
