If you're looking to visit the islands of Hawaii, the NCL Pride of America is an option I strongly suggest you consider. Each island is unique in its own right, so it's an incredible opportunity to visit the islands without having to check in & out from multiple hotels or figure out the complexities of travel between islands. Pros: -Starboard rooms have the best view -We had great service in almost every possible aspect -Stress-free travel to the islands -Overall food options are pretty good -Menu met the needs of several different dietary needs within our group (gluten free, vegetarian, and a few various food sensitivities) Cons: -Only water, lemonade, coffee and tea are complimentary; alcoholic beverages are expensive with tax and a mandatory 18% service fee (we found out the crew member actually only gets less than 15% of that 18% that's collected) -Ship is a bit dated & lacks a wow factor; but honestly the island views were more important to me Tips: -RESEARCH excursions before you buy through NCL (for example, we rented two vehicles for our group of 10 to drive through and hike in Volcano National Park; we paid less for all 10 of us to explore on our own than it would have been to put just 1 person on the NCL tour bus excursion) -- the same was true with the Road to Hana -Uber is an option in many areas & is WAY cheaper than taxis are -Make reservations for dinner; avoid waiting for a table -Try new foods! When you eat at the locations where food is included, try something new. They will be happy to bring you a different entree of you don't like whatever you tried. -If you find a waiter/waitress you like, ask for him/her by name when you make your reservation -Bring binoculars for when the ship cruisers past where Kiluaea's lava flow meets the ocean. THIS IS THE COOLEST SIGHT TO SEE. (Starboard side) -Choose a Starboard room if you can :) -When the ship approaches the Ne Pali coast, go to one of the upper decks 15 minutes early to get an unobstructed view. (Port side, then the ship will turn & you'll see it from the Starboard side) -Talk to the staff; they are full of tidbits and insider info about the islands and what to do Overall, this trip was truly once in a lifetime & full of incredible experiences. However, if you plan to go & stay on the ship, you'll probably be disappointed. The real fun & beauty awaits you on shore. Do your research & plan ahead so you can see and do as much as possible!

Third day on our Hawaiian cruise and things we booked and the room we were told we would have did not happen. The "hospitality" staff didn't even offer an apology. The food is good but nothing special. Paint chips in our room and dents in the walls. Their redeeming qualities are the room stewards. So very friendly and helpful! The two islands we have been on are beautiful.

I am an avid cruiser. I have cruised on NCL before, Celebrity, Norwegian, and Carnival so it's fair to say I can give an honest review. My son and I flew in late from Miami so we stayed in a nice Air BnB close to the port, got up early, excited, and walked around downtown before it was time to board the Pride of America. Took a quick and easy Uber ride to the boat. Embarkation was very easy. We had been to Hawaii before and had not received a lei so the gesture was very nice. Once onboard we took the time to get the know the ship, she is much smaller than any other ship we had been on so this didn't take very long. We settled in the Gold Rush Saloon. Great spot to people watch and we grabbed a light lunch from the nearby Aloha Cafe. Speaking about the Aloha Cafe, I prefer this setup style than other ship buffets. We chose a stateroom with a balcony which was brilliant since we were cruising the Hawaiian Islands. Our stateroom was clean and kept tidy by our great steward. We chose Cagney's Steakhouse one evening. Highly disappointing. We were sat in an odd corner of the room and seemed to have been forgotten about. Numerous times I had to flag down our waiter. I wonder if it was his first night there. Very odd. My son ordered the bone-in ribeye. I am aware that this is a fatty cut of meat, however the amount of fat and gristle was hardly worth paying anything extra. I opted for the filet which was just ok. We picked the Cadillac Diner on another night. Our waiter was rude and dismissive. Took forever to get a glass of water and even longer to place our order. The remaining nights we opted for dinner in the Skyline Diner, I cannot recall any meals we had here. Nothing stands out. I had a glass of wine one evening before dinner in the Napa Wine Bar. The staff here was very nice and accommodating. When walking through the corridor on deck 6 there was a horrible sewage smell near Shuffles Card Room. We unfortunately experienced it every time we passed by. While the itinerary of the cruise made this a 5 star trip, the ship itself is not good at all.

This was our 18 th cruise. We have been on all sizes of ships and different cruise lines Pride of America is fantastic! The size is perfect. it has large gathering areas. Large open deck space and the perfect itinerary! there is no better way to see the Hawaiian islands!

pride of america cruise ship deck plan

This was our first trip to Hawaii so we decided to take the 7 day cruise on the Pride of America over Christmas so we could get to see all the 5 main islands. I've cruised on several cruise lines, but this was our first on NCL. I've found the experience on a particular cruise or line is often just the luck of the drawer. One persons experience may vary wildly from another's on the same cruise. What I will say was our experience was great. Cruising is not for everyone, it's really not the most relaxing way to travel because you have to stick to times for excursions, entertainment, and for the more fancy dining options. But this floating hotel is certainly a good way to see the islands and gave us a good feel of Hawaii and we know where we're going back to specifically next trip there (Kauai). The ship is nicely decorated, has plenty of amenities and is easy to get around. It's a little dated in places (in fact it's going to LA for a refurbishment in February), but still a nice ship overall. The hot tubs on the deck were really fun to sit in on an evening in the light rain showers. There's plenty to do on the ship to keep you entertained when you are on-board. There are plenty of dining options all over the ship, everything from burger bars to several themed restaurants. I enjoyed the freestyle cruising experience, it made you feel a little more in control than I have on other cruises when it comes to dining. The Aloha Cafe is a buffet style restaurant and was our standard place for breakfast, it was good, but the limited variety in the food got a bit old by the end. We ate here for dinner a few evenings too and it was good every time. The main dining rooms (there are 2) were good and the East Meets West Asian Fusion restaurant in particular was really good and well worth making a reservation for (and we got lucky, it was pretty much booked out even early on). There were plenty of entertainment options, and we made good use of them. All of the shows, live music events and parties we went to were great, we went to one pretty much every night. Drink service was really good and friendly. Honestly all the service we received on board was good, I can't think of any time I wasn't happy with it. Service in the Gold Rush Saloon was awesome and we got to get to know several crew members and fellow passengers. Even the higher end staterooms (we got one of the large balcony rooms with unobstructed view) are small on this ship, not that this is unusual on cruise ships, but it did get a bit frustrating in the mornings when trying to get ready and down to breakfast so you could be out in time for your excursions. The balcony was huge, honestly, pointlessly huge since there's just a couple of chairs and a small table. But the view was 100% unobstructed in all directions and totally worth it, especially for sailing past the Nā Pali Coast. My only real complaint on the balcony was that you heard a lot of noise from neighboring ones, it was a bit of an echo chamber. It didn't spoil the experience, but it didn't really afford you much privacy either. Our stateroom attendant was awesome and kept our room clean, and the towel animals were all very cool. Pretty much all of our excursions were great, but for us the best ones were the Blue Hawaiian helicopter tour over Kauai (incredible and a must do) and the Rainforest Zipline tour on Hilo.

30th anniversary - were from Florida on this cruise in Hawaii for 7 days. This ship inside , the employees and the food has been good . The maintenance on the boat is another thing. We have a penthouse suite on the 13th floor we requested the balcony Windows to be cleaned because there filthy dirty and that was finally done on the 4th day. We rode in a tender today to shore In Kona I own boats and Many , these life rafts are in terrible shape and there falling apart. The Windows have rivets missing all around them the seals are missing. The fire extinguishers need to be certified every year and these for everyone I've seen were certified in Miami Florida. How long has this ship been here doing the Hawaii cruise ? Ok so the ports we have stopped at them all, unless you have never been on vacation and shopped you will find the shopping terrible. Rent a car and go do your own thing , you must see the volcanos both on the big island. The rest of the islands your on your own. Would I go again on this cruise - answer no. Do we like Hawaii ? No ...maybe we've just had bad weather (lots of rain) Peace...

DO NOT BOOK NCL!!!! This is the worse service I have every had on this trip . Please read my updated review and the other reviews . The poor service is pretty consistent with the other passengers . This is my second cruise on pride of America. Our first cruise was outstanding . This cruise has been very disappointing. I'm celebrating my birthday and my daughters birthday so I paid to have my room upgraded and they gave me a view of an old, nasty, rusty boat. This is definitely not what I paid for. Luckily I have my email confirming the type of view I paid for and will be filing a formal complaint when I return home as well as post reviews on the various websites . I reached out to guest services yesterday when I checked in and the young lady from Poland could careless of my concerns . She said she would make a note of it. I called the manager of guess services this morning and again she could careless. She said she will make note of it and somebody would get back with me today . Went to guest services again this morning and Michelle said there is nothing she could do. I will be escalating to captain if I have to. Not one person said I'm sorry we will do everything we can to resolve this issue . The service on this ship is horrible !!! 99% of the staff don't speak, look very unhappy and act like they don't want to be here. I've been to the Buffett 3 times, hoping the food gets better, but it hasn't . I will never book on Norweigan again . I would not recommend this cruise to anyone . What a difference 2 years make. The only reason I booked this cruise is because the outstanding service I had on the last cruise . Also when we first stepped foot on the ship they try to sell you a badge holder for your card. Last time it was free. How sad!!! UPDATE- I just received a call from the guess services manager, Kalani and I told her how disappointed I was with the service and you said thank you for my feed back ! REALLY!!!! Not I'm sorry for the inconvenience. She said she could downgrade me to an inside cabin ! Are you Kidding me???

This photo is an unobstructed ocean view that I paid extra for. It looks like an obstructed view to me. What do you think?

We were trying to take a rental car to Haleakala Crater to watch the sunrise this morning (Heard it was beautiful). We asked Guest Services what we needed to do to ensure we made it in time. She was very dismissive and told us there should be taxis there. I asked her "should" or "will be" there and I stressed how much I did not want to wait for a taxi that will never come and miss the beautiful sunrise. Well my big fear came true. We were told to just wait there by the security staff and we sat there for over 30min before deciding to walk over to the mall to get a cab. We missed the sunrise and I am BEYOND disappointed about it. Not happy.

I booked this cruise online at their website. The vacation included airfare, all transfers, 2 days on Waikiki Beach at the Marriott, and 7 days cruising around to the Hawaiian islands, and a few other perks (20 free photos, welcome gifts, etc). The deal cost about $3k per person. This wasn't too bad since Hawaii airfare from my area can cost $900-1400 easily round trip. I booked a balcony state room. This was my first cruise on NCL. The Good: The customer service of the crew was exceptional (with the exception of our stateroom attendant Ronald). We received quite a few perks since I was celebrating my birthday. The excursions offered were pricey but we enjoyed all of them. On one of the excursions (Zip Lining), 2 of the crew members toured as well. This was my husband and my first time zip lining. My husband isn't fond of heights but we thoroughly enjoyed the excursion. To our surprise when we got back to our room, we had received a bottle of wine and chocolate covered pineapples wishing me a happy birthday and congratulating my husband on zip lining from the staff that went on the excursion with us. We received similar treatment throughout our time on the ship. The food was fantastic (most of the time). We mainly ate at the buffet but 5 of the 6 nights we ate at the specialty restaurants. The restaurants that were good were the Teppanyaki, the French restaurant Le Bistro, and the best was Cagney's Steakhouse. The Bad: Their business practices are shady at best. Upon embarkation, a credit card is required to establish an onboard account. This was not a surprise to me. I've been on several cruises before with other carriers and this is a normal business practice. My card was authorize for $300. I then booked our shore excursions for the week which totaled around $2800. The guy at the excursion desk incorrectly quoted me a price of $2600. My husband got a drink at dinner, costing around $15. The next morning I had a letter outside our stateroom door stating that my onboard account was suspended. Apparently, each time we made a transaction, my credit card was processed for an authorization. I had never heard of this. Past cruises I had taken with Carnival and RC, once the authorization was done for a specific amount, there were no additional authorizations. The bill was settled the night before disembarkation. Not to mention, I was in Hawaii but the charges were coming from Miami, FL. Needless to say my credit card company put a block on my credit card for the multiple charges. This happened again the next day. I provided them with a different card so that my husband and I could continue to enjoy our vacation. The next day, I received that same letter. Really annoyed with the process, I decided not to use the ship card anymore. I called both credit card companies to have them take the blocks off of my cards. The account was settled without incident at the end of the cruise. The Brazilian Steakhouse Moderno was gross. The chain Fogo De Chao has much better food. The Italian restaurant La Cuicina wasn't great either. I've had better at the chain Olive Garden. TIP: DO NOT book the Maui beach day excursion. The beach is a public beach so it is free. You can take an Uber and pay about $12. The Ugly: I mean this literally. With the deal, NCL reserved the right to choose our cabin. I figured this would be OK. NOT. Our balcony was next to the tender boats. This was basically my view the entire trip. So we never were able to enjoy the view from the balcony. The stateroom itself needed upgrades bad. The bathroom was the worst, rusted doors, missing tissue box, clogged sink, and a shower curtain. I had never seen a plastic shower curtain hung in a stateroom bathroom. All other cruises on other lines had an actual fiberglass door. The ship itself is dated and needs an EXTREME make-over. Our stateroom attendant (Ronald) left a lot to be desired. His hours were from 8a-12p and then 6p-9p. This was weird to me since previous cruises on other cruise lines, the stateroom attendant was on for 12hr shifts. This could be because we were still in the US, not sure. He barely made up the beds and change the towels out. One night, he even turned our dial outside of the door to "Do Not Disturb" to keep from making up our stateroom after dinner. Then left a note stating why he didn't make it up. Overall, I enjoyed the cruise but thats because we spent most of our time off the ship.

Our overall rating of this cruise is poor for multiple reasons, the number one being the lack of compassion and assistance from the Guest Services staff when we learned of a family member back home being in critical condition. When our family tried to contact the ship to speak with us, NCL informed our family we were not on the ship. Knowing this was incorrect, our family eventually contacted the United States Coast Guard who assisting in locating us onboard the ship. We followed up with Guest Relations who could not provide us an answer as to why we couldn't be located and responded "does your family know your names?" When we tried to get assistance from Guest Services to book emergent flights home and inquired about internet access since we didn't have cell service, they tried to sell us an internet package, but subsequently stated we had to wait for the internet services crew to arrive to work because their shift had not started yet (despite being on a boat). We asked for a manager who also tried to sell us an internet package. Since the staff was no help, we continued to try to use our phones until we neared the island of Kauai and got service. We booked immediate flights and asked for assistance off the ship. Again, no assistance was provided in helping us off the ship or assisting with transportation to the airport. In addition to the obviously pressing issues above, my wife's luggage was damaged by staff when initially boarding the ship. The staff attempted to fix the wheel, but while leaving the ship, the repair fell apart. We additionally had paid extra for a speciality dining experience. We had terrible service not even receiving the pre-dinner appetizers. Our water glasses were constantly empty. We inquired about our food and sides on multiple attempts but eventually left the restaurant due to such terrible service. Post-cruise, we completed our post-cruise feedback survey and submitted multiple emails to guest relations and spent numerous hours on-hold. It took 36 days to receive a call from someone from guest relations who was seemingly apologetic. She informed us to get a quote for luggage repair and stated she would need two additional weeks to complete our claim. Three weeks later, we had not heard back from her so we continuously attempted to call until we finally reached her. She informed us NCL would only give us a small on-board credit to be used on another cruise, despite us saying we would never board another NCL cruise again. Inquiring for resolution, I subsequently called NCL's guest services and corporate numbers hundreds of times (literally), often being treated by very rude staff members or waiting on hold for extended periods of time. I left several messages for managers and supervisors who never returned my calls. We are now four months post-cruise without resolution to any of our issues. I continue to send emails and call nearly daily asking for assistance. Sometimes I are told by the operators answering the phone, "we don't have managers or supervisors," and other times we are able to leave voicemails without ever receiving a callback. If you are looking for a cruise and have a 100% guarantee that nothing will go wrong (e.g., family emergency, weather disasters, illness), then NCL may be a consideration. However, if you cannot guarantee this, I strongly encourage you to choose any other cruise line. For your safety, I strongly encourage you to consider any other company. If you pick up the phone and inquire about a new cruise, you will quickly be talking to a representative who is happy to take a deposit for your upcoming vacation. If you ask to be transferred to customer service, guest relations, a manager, or a supervisor, you will quickly learn that NCL profits are far more important than you and four months later, you still won't have any resolution.

In an emotional farewell interview,  Pat Sajak , the iconic host of Wheel of Fortune , sat down with his daughter, Maggie Sajak, to reflect on his illustrious 41-season run. As he prepares for his final episodes to air this week, Sajak shared his thoughts on retirement and the game show's lasting impact on pop culture.

Pat revealed to his daughter, who joined the Wheel of Fortune team as the show's social correspondent in 2021, that he is at peace with his decision to step down, having announced in June 2023 that the 41st season would be his last.

"This was announced a long time ago, almost a year ago. So I've had time to sort of get used to it. And it's been a little bit wistful and all that, but I'm enjoying it and taking it all in and reflecting on the great run," Pat said in the interview that aired on Monday's  Good Morning America .

Reflecting on his time with the show, Pat expressed his gratitude for the success and cultural significance Wheel of Fortune has achieved. "Somewhere along the line, we became more than a popular show. We became part of the popular culture. And more importantly, we became part of people's lives. And, that's been awfully gratifying," he said.

Pat also discussed his decision to retire, emphasizing his desire to leave while still at the top of his game. "I've always said to you, you've heard me say this dozens of times, 'I'd rather leave a couple years too early than a couple of years too late,'" he told Maggie. "It's been a great 40 years, and I'm looking forward to whatever's ahead."

In a lighter moment, the 77-year-old beloved game show host joked about his retirement plans, which include enjoying simple pleasures like crossword puzzles and spending time with future grandchildren. "I'm perfectly happy if it just means that I'll continue with my crossword puzzles and play with grandchildren. Hint hint hint, no pressure," he teased his daughter.

Pat has served as host of Wheel of Fortune since 1981, when he took over the position from Chuck Woolery. Pat, who earned 19 Daytime Emmy Award nominations and three for Outstanding Game Show Host, shared with ET  in September 2022 that his time as host was soon coming to an end.

"In most television shows by this time, you would have said, 'That’s probably enough,' but this show will not die," he said of Wheel of Fortune , which premiered in 1975. "It appears I may go before the show."

"Years go by fast. We're getting near the end. It's been a long [time]. We're not gonna do this for another 40 years. The end is near," Pat said. "It's an honor to have been in people's living rooms for that long. People were out there welcoming us. We're happy and proud."

Pat's final episode as host of Wheel of Fortune will air on Friday, coinciding with the season 41 finale. Following his departure, Ryan Seacrest is set to take over the hosting duties in the fall.

ET spoke with Seacrest in September, when the American Idol host shared the advice Pat offered him upon taking the job.

"He is a legend. I've looked up to him forever. He's so good at that job, which, you know, is a little bit of pressure here. But he just said, 'You're going to have a great time. It's so much fun. What's better than giving away money and doing that every single night?'" Seacrest said. "I can't wait to meet the contestants and do it."

Seacrest will be joined by Wheel of Fortune staple Vanna White, who in September closed on a new deal that will take her through the 2025-2026 season. White joined the show in 1982, one year after the show premiered, and she's undoubtedly synonymous with the game show.
