At a distance of 35 km from Rajahmundry & 30 km from Papikondalu, Pattisam, also known as Pattiseema, is a beautiful place located on the banks of river Godavari in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. It is situated between Rajahmundry and Papikondalu and can be reached by road and boat from Rajahmundry. There are two temples in Pattisam, Sri Veerabhadra Swamy, dedicated to Lord Shiva and Sri Bhava Narayana Swamy dedicated to Lord Vishnu. This temple is one of the Panchakasi Kshetras. The other four temples are at Kedarnath, Kashi, Kalahasti and Srisailam . Sri Veerabhadra Swamy or Sri Veereswara Swamy Temple is located on Devakuta Hill in the middle of the River Godavari. Papi Kondalu is accessible from many places and it is very easy to reach as well. Rajahmundry, being just 60 km away, has the nearest railway station and airport. Via flights, you can easily reach Rajahmundry from any major city. Take a taxi from the airport and it will not take you much time to reach your destination. Trains are also connected in the same way. Regular trains are available from different places to Rajahmundry. Papi Kondalu can be reached via road as well. The national highway 5 passes through this area and you can plan a road trip to reach this place.

However, it is always better to take the train or flight. Motorboats, even though in very limited numbers, are also available; you can reach Papi Kondalu taking this route too. If you are here for a short trip, you can rent a car for going around. There are public buses and taxis available but they might charge you more. Renting a car is a more economical option.

4. Papi Kondalu national park

Stretching over a vast area, this national park probably covers over 1000 square kilometers. It is situated in the eastern and western districts of the Godavari districts. The park has a lot of rich flora and fauna. Even though it was declared a national park in the year 2008, this newly born nature’s paradise has always been very rich in biodiversity. You can enter the park with a mere fee of 10 rupees for an adult and 5 rupees for a child. It is better to visit early when the park opens at 9 am as you can explore a lot by the time it is time for the park to close at around 6 pm.

  In the village of Jammalapuram, this temple is a major attraction. The temple is dedicated to Swami Venkateshwara and all around the main temple, there are different smaller temples as well. From the boat ride do not expect a luxury cruise. It is more of a plain ferry boat that a cruise. It may include activities like dance and few games, simple lunch on board, basic toilet on-board. You can choose to stay at Kolluru huts for the night or return to Bhadrachalam or Rajamundry.

APTDC even offers boat rides on the river through Papikondalu which can be boarded from Rajahmundry. Boat rides can be a day trip or 2 day trips. From Kunavaram, one can reach faster. If travelling by car one will have to hike last few kilometers. Cell reception in the area as also quite bad.

Papikondalu Information

Papi kondalu is a lovely place whose scenery resembles the scenery of Kashmir (North India). The beautiful scenery of Papi kondalu, the waterfalls at Munivaatam, and the peaceful atmosphere at this tribal area give a pleasant look and peace to visitors, making it a special attraction for tourists. The mighty Godavari river narrowing and passing with twists and turns along the Papi Hills is every visitor's delight. To get the real essence of Papikondalu, one has to go for the boat journey either from Rajahmundry or Bhadrachalam. There are small motor boats with capacity of five including the rider or River Streamers carrying about fifty to sixty people. At a distance of 60 km from Rajahmundry, 180 km from Vijayawada, 20 km from Polavaram, 260 km from Vizag & 410 km from Hyderabad, Papi Kondalu is a breathtakingly beautiful hill range bounded by River Godavari in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Papi hills are a set of three hills which form a beautiful gorge on the Godavari River spread across East Godavari and West Godavari districts. Entire area of Papi Kondalu is covered by tropical rain forests and it was recently declared as a protected National Park and is one of the top places to experience the Tourism in Andhra Pradesh. Papikondalu is one of the top attractions you must include in Vizag tour packages. The original name for this hill range was 'Papidi Kondalu'. Papidi is a rough translation for partition in Telugu. It is believed that the place was visited by Lord Rama and goddess Sita during their exile. Papi Kondalu has to be reached by boat from Rajahmundry, Pattisam (35 km from Rajahmundry), Polavaram (40 km from Rajahmundry), Kunavaram (50 km from Bhadrachalam) or Sriram Giri (60 km from Bhadrachalam). The boat service from Rajahmundry to Bhadrachalam is a wonderful experience and it is operated in post monsoon season.
