Prime Minister Narendra Modi On His Seventh Visit To Poll-Bound Karnataka On Saturday, To Address Mega Rally At Davangere PM Modi On His Seventh Visit To Poll-Bound Karnataka Today, To Address Mega Rally At Davangere

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday will pay his seventh visit to poll-bound Karnataka, taking part in various official events and addressing a mega public meet organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The Election Commission is expected to announce the poll schedule for the Assembly elections, which are scheduled for May, in the coming days.

Modi will inaugurate the 'Sri Madhusudan Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research' in Chikkaballapur, and then he will inaugurate the Bangalore Metro's Whitefield (Kadugodi) to Krishnarajapura Metro Line and ride in the train.

He will then travel to Davangere, the district headquarters town, to address a public meeting to mark the conclusion of the BJP's "Vijay Sankapla Yatre."

This is the first party meeting that the Prime Minister will attend since poll preparations in Karnataka began, news agency PTI reported citing sources from the party.

A total of 10 lakh people are expected to attend the rally, according to Davangere BJP MP G M Siddeshwar, who added that approximately three lakh people will attend from the Davangere district alone, the report said.

Davangere is already strewn with saffron hues, and the pandal has been built on 400 acres of land adjacent to GMIT College.

The four 'Vijaya Sankalpa Yatres,' which began in four different directions across the state in specially designed vehicles or "Rathas," according to BJP State General Secretary Mahesh Tenginakai, were successful.

According to him, the Yatre covered a total of 5,600 kilometres and was attended by millions of people. "We've reached 224 constituencies."

According to a party release, a large-scale catering arrangement has been made for the rally, and 400 counters will be opened. He stated that 1,000 cooks have been assigned, and 44 parking spaces have been identified.

Senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah's 75th birthday feast was also hosted in August last year in Davangere, which is located in the state's central region and was attended by a large throng.

Following that massive scale gathering, pressure has been increasing on the BJP by its local leaders to host an even greater public meet in the region, ahead of Assembly polls, PTI reported.

Sri Sathya Sai University for Human Excellence has created the Sri Madhusudan Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (SMSIMSR), which will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister on Saturday, at Sathya Sai Grama, Muddenahalli, Chikkaballapur.

SMSIMSR, located in a rural area and founded with the goal of de-commercializing medical education and healthcare, will provide free medical education and quality medical care to all. According to an official release, the institute will begin operations in the academic year 2023.

The Prime Minister will launch the 13.71 km stretch of Reach-1 extension project under Bangalore Metro Phase 2 from Whitefield (Kadugodi) Metro to Krishnarajapura Metro Line at Whitefield (Kadugodi) Metro Station.

The project, which is expected to cost around Rs 4250 crores, is likely to improve mobility and reduce traffic congestion in the city, the release said.

BJP's Southern Surge: PM Modi Alliance Set For Major Gains In Karnataka, Kerala, And Tamil Nadu

  • Jun 03, 2024,
  • Updated Jun 03, 2024, 11:17 AM IST

PM Modi's alliance is poised to nearly double its seats in the southern states, according to India Today exit polls. The NDA is set to secure the majority of Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka, with projections of 23 to 25 seats, leaving the 'INDIA' camp trailing with 3 to 5 seats. This potential BJP sweep would serve as sweet revenge for the party's 2023 Karnataka assembly elections defeat. In Kerala, the BJP is likely to make a significant breakthrough, winning 2 to 3 seats, while the Congress-led UDF is expected to secure 17 to 18 seats. If these predictions hold, it will mark the first time the BJP wins a seat in Kerala. In Tamil Nadu, the BJP is projected to win 1 to 3 seats, increasing its presence, although the DMK is expected to maintain its dominance with 20 to 22 of the 39 seats. If the exit poll numbers hold true on June 4, it would signify that southern India is no longer a forbidden zone for the BJP, which has long been derided as a Hindi-Hindu-Hindutva party. Is the “Vanakkam BJP” moment on the horizon for Modi?

The bjp in karnataka is banking on an infrastructure push through central projects to win votes in the 2023 state polls and maintain a pro-development identity..

modi visit karnataka today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Karnataka on Thursday to launch a slew of projects as part of an inauguration spree that will see the PM visiting the state on an almost weekly basis in the run-up to the state Assembly polls around April.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Modi will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate projects related to irrigation, drinking water, and road development, valued at Rs 10,800 crore.

modi visit karnataka today

Sources in the state government said that PM Modi would also visit the state on at least four occasions in February to inaugurate projects like the 10-laned Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway.

The BJP in Karnataka is banking on the infrastructure push through central projects to win votes in the 2023 state polls and maintain a pro-development identity amid maladministration and corruption allegations against the incumbent BJP state government.

On Thursday afternoon, PM Modi will visit the Yadgir and Kalaburagi districts in the impoverished Kalyana Karnataka region in the north of the state and lay the foundation stone for a Yadgir multi-village drinking water supply scheme under the Jal Jeevan Mission.

Festive offer

In neighbouring Kalaburagi, he will distribute land title deeds to eligible beneficiaries of new revenue villages at Malkhed as part of a scheme to give land to around 50,000 beneficiaries. In Kalaburagi, the PM is also scheduled to inaugurate an irrigation project involving the extension, renovation, and modernisation of the Narayanapura Left Bank Canal project that can benefit nearly 3 lakh farmers of the region, according to official estimates.

PM Modi will also lay the foundation stone for two greenfield highway development projects in Karnataka which are part of the Surat -Chennai expressway.

Voting ends in the last round of India’s election, a referendum on PM Modi’s decade in power

NEW DELHI — India’s  six-week-long national election  came to an end Saturday as the last of the country’s hundreds of millions of voters went to the polls for a contest that’s widely seen as a referendum on Hindu Nationalist Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decade in power.

During the grueling, multi-phase election, candidates criss-crossed the country, pollworkers hiked to remote villages, and voters lined up for hours in sweltering heat. Now all that’s left is to wait for the results, which are expected to be announced Tuesday.

The election is considered one of the most consequential in India’s history. If Modi wins, he’ll be only the second Indian leader to retain power for a third term after Jawaharlal Nehru, the country’s first prime minister.

Most poll surveys show Modi and his Bharatiya Janata Party leading over the broad opposition alliance that’s challenging them, led by the Congress party. The votes will be counted Tuesday, with results expected by the end of the day.

Modi’s campaign began on a platform of economic progress, with vows to uplift the poor and turn India into a  developed nation by 2047 . But it turned increasingly shrill in recent weeks as Modi  escalated polarizing rhetoric  in incendiary speeches that targeted the country’s Muslim minority, who make up 14% of India’s 1.4 billion people.

A woman casts her ballot to vote as a polling official applies indelible ink to another voter.

After campaigning ended on Thursday, Modi went to a memorial site honoring a famous Hindu saint to meditate on national television. The opposition Congress party called it a political stunt and said it violated election rules as the campaigning period has ended.

When the election kicked off in April, Modi and his BJP were widely expected to clinch another term.

Since coming to power in 2014, Modi has enjoyed immense popularity. His supporters see him as a self-made, strong leader who has improved India’s standing in the world, and credit his pro-business policies with making the economy the world’s fifth-largest.

At the same time, his rule has seen brazen attacks and hate speech against minorities, particularly Muslims.  India’s democracy , his critics say, is faltering and Modi has increasingly  blurred the line between religion and state .

But as the campaign ground on, his party faced stiff resistance from the opposition alliance and its main face, Rahul Gandhi of the Congress party. They have attacked Modi over his Hindu nationalist politics and are hoping to benefit from  growing economic discontent .

Polling officials seal Electronic Voting Machines.

Pre-poll surveys showed that voters were increasingly worried about unemployment, the rise in food prices and an overall sentiment that only a small portion of Indians have benefitted despite brisk economic growth under Modi, making the contest appear closer than initially anticipated.

The seventh round of polls covered 57 constituencies across seven states and one union territory, completing a national election to fill all 543 seats in the powerful lower house of parliament. Nearly 970 million voters — more than 10% of the world’s population. More than 8,300 candidates ran for five-year terms in parliament.

In Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, voters lined up outside polling stations early Saturday morning to avoid  the scorching heat , with temperatures expected to reach 93.2 Fahrenheit. Modi was challenged there by the state’s chief minister, Mamata Banerjee, who heads the regional Trinamool Congress party.

“There is a crunch for jobs now in the present market. I will vote for the government that can uplift jobs. And I hope those who cannot get jobs, they will get jobs,” said Ankit Samaddar.

In this election, Modi’s BJP — which controls much of India’s Hindi-speaking northern and central parts —  sought to expand their influence  by making inroads into the country’s eastern and southern states, where regional parties hold greater sway.

People stand in queues to cast their vote.

The BJP also banked on consolidating votes among the Hindu majority, who make up 80% of the population, after  Modi opened a long-demanded Hindu temple  on the site of a razed mosque in January. Many saw it as the unofficial start of his campaign, but analysts said the excitement over the temple may not be enough to yield votes.

Modi ramped up anti-Muslim rhetoric after voter turnout dipped slightly below 2019 figures in the first few rounds of the 2024 polls, in a move seen as a bid to energize his core Hindu voter base. But analysts say it also reflected the absence of a single big-ticket campaign issue, which Modi has relied on to power previous campaigns.

In 2014, Modi’s status as a political outsider with plans to crack down on deep-rooted corruption won over voters disillusioned with decades of dynastic politics. And in 2019, he  swept the polls on a wave of nationalism  after his government launched airstrikes into rival Pakistan in response to a suicide bombing in Kashmir that killed 40 Indian soldiers.

But things are different this time, analysts say, giving Modi’s political challengers a potential opportunity.

“The opposition somehow managed to derail his plan by setting the narrative to local issues, like unemployment and the economy. This election, people are voting keeping various issues in mind,” said Rasheed Kidwai, a political analyst.

"Exit polls are Modi polls... not true": Karnataka minister KN Rajanna

B engaluru ( Karnataka ), June 3 (ANI): After the exit polls predicted a victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance ( NDA ) in the Lok Sabha polls , Karnataka minister and Congress leader KN Rajanna rubbished the predictions, terming it "Modi polls".

"Exit polls are 'Modi polls'....The exit polls are not true....In Karnataka , we will be in double digits and win more than 15 seats", Rajanna told ANI.

According to the exit polls , the JDS-BJP alliance in Karnataka is poised to win 23 of the 28 Lok Sabha seats, of which BJP will end up winning 22 seats while the Congress may win just five seats.

While overall the exit polls on Saturday predicted a landslide victory for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance ( NDA ) in the LS polls. According to India Today-Axis My India exit polls , NDA is predicted to win 361-401 seats in the Lok Sabha polls . The INDIA bloc is expected to win 131-166 seats, it said and gave 8 to 20 seats to other parties.

The Republic PMarq exit poll gave 359 of 543 seats to NDA , 154 to INDIA bloc and 30 to others. Republic Matrize poll gave 353-368 seats to NDA , 118-113 to the INDIA bloc and 43-48 to others. The NewsX Dynamics gave 371 seats to NDA , 125 to INDIA bloc and 47 to others.

Meanwhile, several Congress leaders including Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramiah, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar and Rahul Gandhi have expressed confidence that the INDIA bloc , which was formed to take on the BJP, will comfortably cross the 295-mark.

However, the BJP leaders, rejoicing at the poll predictions, stated that the people of the country have voted in record numbers to elect the NDA government for a third term.

"I can say with confidence that the people of India have voted in record numbers to reelect the NDA government. They have seen our track record and the manner in which our work has brought about a qualitative change in the lives of the poor, marginalised and downtrodden", said Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a post on 'X'.

If the exit poll predictions come true on June 4 when votes are counted, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will become the only PM after Jawaharlal Nehru to win three successive terms in Lok Sabha polls . The exit polls predicted 'Modi 3.0' with PM Modi having led the BJP's poll effort through rallies and roadshows in various parts of the country.

The Lok Sabha polls were held in seven phases starting from April 19 to June 1.
