Job Seeker Visa For UAE: A Simple Guide

Navigating the sands of UAE’s job market ?

Well, you’re in the right oasis !

Discover the ins and outs of the Job Seeker Visa in the UAE and ensure your job-hunting adventure is smooth sailing—or should we say, smooth sand-duning?

Understanding The Job Seeker Visa

Job Seeker Visa for UAE 1

The job seeker visa is a specialized type of visa designed to enable individuals to explore employment opportunities in a foreign country.

Unlike traditional work visas that require a job offer prior to entry , the job seeker visa allows individuals to enter a country and actively search for suitable employment during a designated period.

This visa is particularly beneficial for those seeking to experience the local job market , work culture, and lifestyle before making a long-term commitment to relocate.

Applicants typically need to meet certain criteria to qualify for a job seeker visa, such as having a certain level of education, skills, or professional experience.

The visa duration varies depending on the country, ranging from a few months to a year or more.

During this time, visa holders can network with potential employers, attend job fairs, interviews, and explore various job opportunities within their field.

While the job seeker visa doesn’t grant permission for actual employment, it serves as a bridge between exploration and establishment in a new country.

If a visa holder secures a job offer within the stipulated visa duration, they can often transition to a work visa or permit without needing to leave the country.

This streamlined process facilitates a smooth shift from job seeking to legal employment.

It’s essential to research and understand the specific requirements and regulations of the destination country regarding the job seeker visa, as they can vary significantly.

Eligibility Criteria

Job Seeker Visa for UAE 2

Eligibility criteria outline the specific requirements individuals must meet to qualify for a particular visa or program.

For a job seeker visa, eligibility generally includes having a valid passport, being of legal age ( usually 18 or above ), and having a clear intent to explore employment opportunities in the host country.

Applicants are typically required to demonstrate sufficient financial means to support themselves during their stay without relying on public assistance.

Educational qualifications or work experience relevant to the sought-after job market might also be required.

Some countries might necessitate proof of health insurance coverage to address potential medical expenses.

Meeting character and security checks is crucial, ensuring that applicants have no criminal history or pose a security threat.

Overall, satisfying these eligibility criteria is essential to embark on the job search journey under the job seeker visa program.

Duration Of The Visa

Job Seeker Visa for UAE 3

The duration of a visa refers to the period of time for which the visa holder is authorized to stay in a foreign country.

It is a crucial aspect of any visa as it outlines the permissible length of time an individual can legally remain within the host country’s borders.

Visa durations vary widely depending on the type of visa and the purpose of the visit.

Tourist visas often offer shorter stays, typically ranging from a few weeks to a few months, allowing individuals to explore a country for leisure or short-term purposes .

Work visas, on the other hand, tend to have longer durations, often aligning with the length of the employment contract.

Student visas are usually valid for the duration of the academic program, ensuring that students can complete their studies within the granted time frame.

Additionally, some visas offer single-entry allowances , permitting the visa holder to enter the country once within a specific time window.

Other visas may offer multiple-entry privileges , allowing the individual to enter and exit the host country multiple times within the visa’s validity period.

It’s important to note that overstaying the allowed duration can result in serious consequences, including fines, deportation , and potential bans on future entry.

Understanding the visa duration is crucial for planning travel arrangements and ensuring compliance with the host country’s immigration regulations.

Before applying for a visa, individuals should thoroughly research the specific visa type and its associated duration to ensure that it aligns with their intended activities and plans within the host country.

Visa Application Process

Job Seeker Visa for UAE 4

The visa application process involves several sequential steps that individuals must follow to obtain permission to enter a foreign country.

It begins with researching and selecting the appropriate visa category based on the purpose of travel, whether it’s for tourism, work, study, or immigration.

This is followed by gathering the required documents , such as a valid passport, completed application form, photographs, financial proof, and sponsorship letters if necessary.

Once the necessary documents are compiled, applicants typically fill out an online application form provided by the respective embassy or consulate.

They then pay the requisite processing fee and may need to schedule an appointment for biometric data submission or an interview.

Background checks, medical examinations , and security clearances may also be required depending on the visa type.

After submission, applicants track the application’s progress and eventually receive either an approval with instructions or a rejection along with reasons for denial.

If approved, individuals collect their visa and make travel arrangements according to the specified validity dates.

At the destination country, they undergo immigration checks, adhering to visa conditions and allowed stay durations.

The visa application process necessitates careful attention to detail, patience, and adherence to the specific requirements outlined by the destination country’s immigration authorities.

Scope Of Employment Opportunities

Job Seeker Visa for UAE 5

The scope of employment opportunities refers to the range of job options available within a specific industry or market. It encompasses various roles, positions, and fields where individuals can find work.

A broad scope suggests a diverse array of jobs , while a narrow scope indicates limited options.

Factors influencing the scope include industry growth, technological advancements, economic trends, and geographic location.

Industries like technology, healthcare , and renewable energy often have expansive scopes due to ongoing innovation.

In contrast, sectors with limited growth or high specialization may offer fewer opportunities.

A comprehensive understanding of the scope helps job seekers align their skills and interests with the most promising sectors, increasing their chances of securing suitable employment and career growth.

What is visa change status, how much overstaying fine, employment visa delaying reason.

Change status is the process that allows you to change your visit visa to an employment visa in the UAE. You will successfully evade the overstaying fines if you complete the steps to change your status.

Step-by-Step Process of Changing to an Employment Visa

Below is the process of changing a visit visa to an employment visa:

  • 01   First, get the offer letter from the prospective employer
  • 02   Confirm that you have accepted the offer to your employer and sign the offer letter within one day
  • 03   After that, your employer will apply for a quota & labor contract for you to work in the UAE. You and the employer are required to sign the labor contract once it has been approved. This will take 2 to three working days.
  • 04   Next, your employer will apply for your residence entry permit, which will take one day.
  • 05   Change status in one day
  • 06   Get a medical assessment which takes two days and a day for VIPs
  • 07   After that, biometrics will be taken, and your Emirates ID, which will take 2 to 3 working days

If you have found a job, your employer will apply for your residence visa on your behalf and see it through to completion.

You will need to undergo the required medical tests and security checks for your visa to be approved.

Change Visit Visa To Employment Visa In UAE

According to the new visa reforms 2023, you will be fined 50 AED each day if you haven’t changed your visa status before your visit visa expiry.

Individuals who overstay their visas in the UAE will be charged a penalty. You must be aware of the potential fines and learn how to check if you owe any overstay fines. After your UAE visa expires and you exhaust your grace period, you must pay the overstay fine according to the number of days accumulated.

On top of the overstay fine, you will need to obtain a Dubai/UAE out pass, which costs up to AED 300. The out pass is basically an exit permit that allows holders to leave the UAE. This new rule is in accordance with the latest announcement.

When switching from a visit visa to an employment visa in the UAE, it can sometimes take several days. If the company where you got the job offer cites any of the reasons below, you should immediately opt to extend your UAE visit visa.

  • Quota issues: The Labour department assigns a specific number of quotas to each company based on the size of the business, business type, and the professions available. If your employers don't have a specific quota to hire, it may take longer than expected, and they should request the Labour department.
  • National Holidays: the UAE has few national holidays compared to other countries. If your employment visa application falls on a national holiday such as the Eid holidays or any other major holiday, you may lose days as government offices will be closed.
  • Ramadan: visa processing during Ramadan is usually slow and can take even four working days to get approved or rejected. Working hours during Ramadan are reduced in both the public and private sectors. System issues may also cause delays during this time. Ordinarily, a visit visa takes no more than two working days to be issued.
  • Incomplete PRO or Typing Center: at times, your employer PRO or the typing center handling your employment visa is unable to move things along quickly. As a result, most visitors end up incurring lots of fines. If you sense this issue, you might want to consider extending your visa.

Question: Can I still look for a job on a visit visa in the UAE after the introduction of the new Jobseeker visa, which was launched for people who want to search for a job in the country?

Answer: The new category of ‘Jobseeker Visa’ was introduced recently under the Cabinet Decision No. 65 of 2022.

Based on purpose, entry visas have been classified into several types such as (i) tourism, (ii) visiting a relative or friend, (iii) a work mission, (iv) exploring job opportunities, (v) exploring business establishment opportunities, (vi) medical treatment, (vii) study, (viii) training, (ix) rehabilitation, and (x) courtesy visa.

A ‘Jobseeker Visa’ holder may enter and reside in the UAE, without the requirement of a guarantor/host in the country. However, it may be noted that the ‘Jobseeker Visa’ is only meant for foreign applicants with certain specific qualifications, set forth in Article (21) of the Cabinet Decision which reads as follows.

  • The applicant must be a skilled worker at the first, second or third level of the classification of professions approved by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation; and
  • The applicant must be a graduate of the best (500) universities in the world, with no more than two years having passed since his graduation.
  • The minimum educational level should be a bachelor's degree or its equivalent.
  • The applicant must fulfil the prescribed financial guarantee.

Although the category of ‘Jobseeker Visa’ has now been introduced, the Decree Law and the Cabinet Decision are silent on whether persons with regular visit-visas may also look for employment opportunities during their stay in the UAE. However, it will be prudent for a person to abide by the law and obtain a ‘Job Seeker’ visa if such a person wants to seek employment opportunities in the UAE.
