VVS Laxman, who was initially set to travel with the Jasprit Bumrah-led side will oversee a high-performance camp in Alur for three weeks

Former Saurashtra batter Sitanshu Kotak is set to be India's head coach for the three-match T20 International (T20I) series against Ireland, according to a report in Times of India . Kotak is currently India A's head coach and the batting coach at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore. According to the same report, VVS Laxman , who was initially set to travel with the Indian team to Ireland, will oversee a high-performance camp in Alur for three weeks.

Kotak will be accompanied by former India leg-spinner Sairaj Bahutule, who will act as the bowling coach. The series marks the return of pacer Jasprit Bumrah after a long injury lay-off, and will also lead the side in Ireland.

“Kotak and Sairaj Bahutule [bowling coach] will travel with Jasprit Bumrah & Co for the three-match T20I series, as Laxman will conduct the high-performance camp from August 16 to September 5, for which youngsters like Abhishek Sharma, Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, Prabhsimran Singh, Sai Sudarshan, Akash Singh, Rajvardhan Hangargekar and Divyansh Saxena have been called up by the BCCI,” a source told TOI.

India will play three T20Is against Paul Stirling-led Ireland on August 18, 20 and 23. India last went to Ireland last June, where they won both T20Is. In fact, Ireland have failed to beat India in all eight white-ball matches between them.

India will gear up for the Asia Cup 2023 following the Ireland tour. They will face Pakistan in their first game on September 2 in Pallekele.

India will travel to Ireland to play three T20Is between August 18-23. Along with several senior players, the main coach staff including head coach Rahul Dravid , batting coach Vikram Rathour, and bowling coach Paras Mhambrey have been rested for the tour with an eye on the packed schedule coming up in the form of the Asia Cup, the ODI series against Australia, and the World Cup.

The Ireland tour marks the return of Jasprit Bumrah to top-flight cricket after a long time. He will be leading the Indian team in the absence of regular white-ball leaders Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya.

VVS Laxman, the current head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), was originally supposed to travel with the Indian team as the head coach for the tour, but a change of plans means he will now stay back and oversee the Emerging camp in the NCA.

Who is Sitanshu Kotak?

Kotak, who has been the head coach for India A for more than two years now, is the head coach for the Ireland tour. He was, in fact, part of India’s coaching setup in their previous tour of Ireland as well, when Dravid & Co were rested. Laxman performed head coach duties then, with Kotak serving as the batting coach.

[breakout id=”0″][/breakout]

Kotak was a prolific run-scorer in domestic cricket for Saurashtra, having scored a shade more than eight thousand runs from 130 first-class matches at an average of 41.76. He scored a total of 18 centuries in his domestic career, 15 of which came in first-class cricket, and three in List A. To go with that, he was also a handy bowler, having taken 70 first-class and 54 List A wickets. Kotak last played domestic cricket in 2013.

He switched over from playing to coaching immediately after his retirement and has served as the head coach for Saurashtra in domestic cricket for several years, including in the 2018-19 season where they finished as the runners-up. He was also the assistant coach for Gujarat Lions in the IPL and after Dravid’s tenure began as the NCA Head in 2019, Kotak took over as the head coach for India A.

Coming with a lot of top-level coaching experience behind him, Kotak has an important role to play in easing Bumrah back into the international setup in the Ireland series and making his job of handling a young squad easier.

Bumrah to captain the Indian side in the absence of senior players

India’s head coach, Rahul Dravid , and his entire support staff are set to take a well-deserved break following the conclusion of the cricket tour in the West Indies . The Indian cricket team is currently engaged in an exhaustive all-format tour in the Caribbean, which comprises two Test matches, three One Day Internationals (ODIs) , and five Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) . This comprehensive tour is scheduled to culminate on August 13 with the final T20I fixture set to take place in Lauderhill, Florida.

New head coach for the T20I series against Ireland

During this interim period of rest for the coaching staff, the responsibility of leading the team will now fall to Sitanshu Kotak . He will act as the interim head coach for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland . Kotak, a former cricketer from the Saurashtra region, has been an integral part of the coaching setup at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) . For the past few years, he has been serving as the head coach for India A , a developmental cricket team that plays at the domestic level.

Initially, VVS Laxman , the head of the NCA, was intended to accompany the Indian team to Ireland. However, due to his involvement in overseeing a camp for emerging talents at the NCA in Bengaluru, Laxman will remain back in India, thus necessitating the temporary coaching arrangement.

Following their break, Dravid and his team of support staff will rejoin the squad to begin preparations for the Asia Cup 2023 . After the completion of the continental tournament, the Indian cricket team is scheduled to host Australia for a three-match ODI series. Subsequently, India will participate in the highly anticipated ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 , which will be held on home soil.

Turning to the Ireland tour, India is slated to play three T20I matches in Dublin on August 18, 20, and 23 . This particular tour holds significant importance as it marks the return of Jasprit Bumrah to competitive cricket. Bumrah, one of India’s premier fast bowlers, has been sidelined due to a recurring back injury for nearly a year. His return to the playing field will be crucial as he seeks to regain his rhythm and game fitness ahead of the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup.

During the Ireland tour, Bumrah will lead a relatively young Indian side that includes emerging talents such as Ruturaj Gaikwad, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma and Rinku Singh .

The selection committee will also keep a close watch on Prasidh Krishna during the Ireland tour. The tall and promising fast bowler is making a comeback to competitive cricket after a lengthy period of injury. His performance during this tour could potentially influence his selection for the upcoming 50-over World Cup later this year.

Team India Gets New Head Coach For Ireland T20Is In Absence Of Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman: Report

The indian cricket team will have a new head coach for the t20i series against ireland in the absence of rahul dravid and vvs laxman..

ireland tour india coach

The Indian cricket team is set to embark upon a new adventure on the tour of Ireland in the T20I series. While head coach Rahul Dravid has been given a rest for the assignment, even VVS Laxman , who usually steps into Dravid's shoes in such cases, will not be touring with the boys. In the absence of the two India stalwarts, the young Indian team will see former domestic stalwart Sitanshu Kotak taking up the role of the head coach. Kotak is presently the head coach of the India A team at the NCA.

As per multiple reports, Laxman was supposed to be the head coach of the Indian team on the tour of Ireland but his next task is to oversee a high-performance training camp near Bengaluru. The camp will last for three weeks, making him unavailable for the Ireland T20Is that begin on August 18.

It has also been reported that Kotak will be accompanied by Sairaj Bahutule as the team's bowling coach.

"Kotak and Sairaj Bahutule (bowling coach) will travel with Jasprit Bumrah & Co for the three-match T20I series (from August 18-23), as Laxman will conduct the high-performance camp from August 16 to September 5, for which youngsters like Abhishek Sharma , Dhruv Jurel , Riyan Parag , Prabhsimran Singh , Sai Sudarshan, Akash Singh, Rajvardhan Hangargekar and Divyansh Saxena have been called up by the BCCI," Times of India quoted a source as saying.

The series might only feature T20Is, but it remains quite important for the Indian team management, keeping in mind the return of Jasprit Bumrah, and will feature exciting young guns like Ruturaj Gaikwad , Yashasvi Jaiswal , Rinku Singh , Jitesh Sharma , etc.

Sitanshu has the experience of coaching the Inda A team for two years and the Ireland opportunity allows him to work with some of the next-gen Indian players who could go on to be the future greats of the game.

Mumbai: India have a ODI World Cup this year and looks like all the emphasis is being put on that and rightly so. With the side more on less decided, reports suggest that India coach Rahul Dravid would be rested for the Ireland tour. Not just Dravid, others in the coaching staff as well will be relieved after the Windies tour so that they can get ample rest before the Asia Cup. In the absence of Dravid, former India cricketer VVS Laxman would be in charge of the Indian cricket team. It is likely that Laxman would have a team featuring Sitanshu Kotak, Hrishikesh Kanitkar (batting), Troy Cooley and Sairaj Bahutule (bowling).

VVS Laxman to coach Team India on Ireland tour

VVS Laxman to coach Team India on Ireland tour

VVS Laxman , the incumbent head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, is set to travel to Ireland with India's T20I side. Team India will play two T20Is in Dublin on June 26 and 28, respectively. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that Laxman will replace head coach Rahul Dravid , who would be with the Indian team in England.

A look at the developments

Laxman will be traveling with the Indian T20I side since Team India's head coach, Dravid, will be with the Test-bound players in England. India are scheduled to face England in the rescheduled fifth Test from the 2021 series, in July.

Laxman took charge as NCA head in November 2021

One of India's greatest middle-order batters, VVS Laxman, took charge as the NCA head in November 2021. Laxman, who represented India for over a decade, took the reins from Rahul Dravid. The latter had replaced Ravi Shastri as Team India's head coach. Laxman and Dravid, who offered their priceless services to the Indian team while playing, will once again work in tandem.

India will travel to Ireland in June

Earlier this year, Cricket Ireland had confirmed that a second-string Indian side will tour Ireland for two T20Is in June. Dublin will host the two T20Is, on June 26 and 28. However, marquee Indian players such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant , and Jasprit Bumrah will miss the series. They will be involved in the remaining Test from last year's England tour.

Here is India's schedule

India are scheduled to host South Africa for five T20Is, starting June 9. The Indians will leave for the Ireland tour thereafter. Subsequently, the Test side will travel to England to play last summer's rescheduled fifth Test in Manchester. India are then slated to play six white-ball matches in the UK. The limited-overs leg includes three T20Is and as many ODIs, starting July 7.

India last toured Ireland in 2018, eye history in England

India last toured Ireland in 2018, winning the two-match T20I series 2-0. On the other hand, India lead the unfinished five-match Test series 2-1 in England (2021). The final Test in Manchester got postponed due to COVID-19 scare. The series decider will now be played this year in July. India have a chance to win their first Test series in England since 2007.

Ireland coach / bus tour reviews.

Incredible trip. Very well planned. Helpful and accommodations where spectacular. Don't worry about luggage!
The entire trip was wonderful, very well organized, and satisfying. Peter Flood was an excellent tour guide. He was as knowledgeable as could be, funny, and helpful; and really seems to love what he does.
This tour was great. We had Pat and he was awesome. He was knowledgeable and funny. He answered questions and had the whole bus singing and laughing. It really gives you a Taste of Ireland and leaves you wanting to come back for more. My only compliant would be the last hotel, Academy Plaza, and that compliant is that the rooms were extremely small especially when comparing them to the other hotels we stayed in. But we highly recommend and hopefully you'll have Pat because he the greatest.

Our small groups guarantee Never more than 26 guests per tour

We always keep our tour group sizes small. That's because we want every guest to get the comfort, space and service they deserve. Although many other companies squeeze in groups of up to 50, even the largest of our tour packages are strictly limited to just 26 guests. That leaves empty seats on the coaches. So why do we limit our tours to such small group sizes? Here are six reasons.

Superior Service

Guests consistently list our small group sizes as a top reason why they would book with us again. See our reviews...

More focus on you

With a smaller group, our tour guides have more time to get to know you and your interests.

We deliberately leave empty seats on our coaches, so you can relax and spread out.

Experience each attraction up-close and personal, with more time to ask questions and see what interests you.

Speedier Check-Ins

Compared with many of our rivals, our smaller group sizes make checking in and out of the hotels a breeze.

More Relaxed Pace

Experience Ireland at your own pace. No rushing to keep up and no waiting around for large groups to assemble.

VVS Laxman set to be Team India head coach for Zimbabwe tour; Gambhir set to take over from Sri Lanka series - Reports

T he Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is close to finalizing the new head coach of the men's team as Rahul Dravid steps away following the conclusion of the 2024 T20 World Cup. However, the upcoming Zimbabwe tour in July will not be the new head coach's first assignment with the team.

Former India player Gautam Gambhir has been reportedly touted to be the next head coach after his success in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he recently led the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to their third title. But, a report from PTI states that the white-ball tour of Sri Lanka in July-August will be his first assignment.

With Dravid stepping away from the role and Gambhir only coming into the picture after a while, it will be National Cricket Academy (NCA) head VVS Laxman, who will be in charge of the team for the five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe.

Laxman has stepped in as head coach of the team, primarily the second-string side, on many occasions when Rahul Dravid and the senior side were on tour or on a break.

"There is a possibility that Laxman along with some of the NCA coaches will travel with the new look squad to Zimbabwe. Laxman and the NCA team has always filled up whenever Rahul Dravid and the first team coaches have been taken periodic breaks during their stint," a BCCI source told PTI.

Laxman was also considered for the vacant head coach role on a long-term basis, but he turned down the role, choosing to remain associated with the NCA.

He was last in charge of the Indian team during the three-match T20I series against Ireland away from home.

India's tour of Zimbabwe scheduled to take place from July 6 to July 14

A young side filled with breakthrough stars from the IPL 2024 season will comprise the majority of the squad for the five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe. The selection committee are expected to name the squad soon, with either Hardik Pandya or Suryakumar Yadav poised to lead the team.

India's white-ball season will continue with a tour of Sri Lanka, comprising three ODIs and three T20Is. The assignment, scheduled to begin from July 27 could likely begin Gambhir's reign as head coach of the team.

Taylor Swift in Dublin: Ticket information, setlist, stage times and more

Everything you need to know about the star’s dublin concerts on june 28th, 29th and 30th.

Ready for it? Taylor Swift ’s colossal Eras Tour is finally coming to Dublin . If you haven’t been planning your outfit like the rest of us for the past year, what have you been doing? It’s nearly time to break out the cowboy hats, boas and all things sparkly.

More than any musical act before her, Swift – who jets around in a private aircraft – has somehow become the most relatable woman in pop by monetising her heartbreak with ridiculously catchy tunes. Since most of us were introduced to Swift with her 2008 hit Love Story, she’s had a chameleonic career. (It’s a little terrifying to think that there will be 16-year-olds at the concerts who weren’t even born when Love Story dropped.) She conquered pop with Red and 1989, took a badass turn in 2017′s Reputation and soothed us during the pandemic with her ethereal Folklore and Evermore albums. Her latest break-up album, The Tortured Poets Department , became Spotify’s most-streamed album in a single week.

With dozens of Grammys under her belt over the last 14 years, it was difficult to see how she could get any bigger. How about playing songs from every album – or “era” – at the one concert? It was bold, but it has paid off spectacularly.

Last year’s US leg of the tour was the first in history to make more than $1 billion (€920,000). It is estimated the international stint of the tour will increase that figure to as much as $4 billion (€3.7 billion). Last year she was reportedly receiving $27 million per three-hour show. That’s $150,000 per minute or $2,500 per second. Love her or hate her, that’s impressive. And she’s the first musician to become a billionaire purely off her music alone, and all at the age of 34.

[  Taylor Swift is back on tour. The first night, her three-hour set has 70,000 people rapt  ]

Few artists have the ability to alter the local economy when their show comes through town, but of course Swift can. It appears there’s nothing she can’t do when she sets her mind to it. If The Irish Times received reports she had floated off the Aviva Stadium stage and into the sky, we’d nearly believe it.

Swiftonomics and levitating stars aside, playing live shows off the back of a hit record can be daunting for an artist. But there’s little doubt Swift will meet the exceedingly high expectations. So what can we expect for Swift’s first gig in Ireland since 2018?

When does she play?

The star will play three concerts at the Aviva Stadium on June 28th, 29th and 30th.

Are tickets still available and where can I collect mine?

Are you joking? If you’re reading this you’re probably still traumatised by The Great (Ticketmaster) War of 2023 – as dubbed by Swifties across the world. They fought tooth and nail to get to the front of a digital queue and secure coveted tickets for the Eras Tour. So yes, the concerts are sold out. However, the odd resale ticket has been surfacing on ticketmaster.ie – of course, for ludicrous prices – but keep an eye out there if the fomo gets too much. Buy tickets from accredited sources only.

What if I have a ticket, but need to collect it?

If you are one of the lucky few heading to the gig, Ticketmaster box offices will be located at the Lansdowne Road/Northumberland Road junction for ticket collections.

All early entry VIP ticket holders will be contacted by Ticketmaster via email about entrance information.

Who is the support act?

American pop-punk icons Paramore will warm up the stadium for Swift. As if 50,000 screaming fans wasn’t enough.

What time should I arrive?

Doors open at 5pm before Paramore kick things offat about 6pm. Swift is expected to grace the stage about 7.30pm.

If you would like to buy merchandise but will not have time and/or don’t want to carry it around with you, then fear not, Swift (or her management team, most likely), have thought of everything.

There will be an early merchandise day as part of the tour at the 3Arena, from 10am-8pm on Thursday, 27th June, and from 10am onwards on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 28th-30th June. This is open to all, whether you have a ticket or not.

#DublinTSTheErasTour Early Merch Day will be 27, 28, 29 & 30 June from 10am onwards (27 June 10am - 8pm) and open to all + info https://t.co/cGs2seFqTL pic.twitter.com/41tM9rgngc — MCD Productions (@mcd_productions) June 22, 2024

How do I get there and home again?

Map showing Taylor Swift at Aviva Stadium access routes

Taylor Swift at Aviva Stadium access routes

Organisers have said fans should allow for sufficient travel time to and from the venue. As traffic and parking delays are inevitable, you are encouraged to walk, cycle, use public transport and private coach services.

By Luas: The stadium is a fair walk from the nearest Luas stop. It’s about a 30- 40-minute walk from Ranelagh, Charlemont, Harcourt, St Stephen’s Green, Dawson and Trinity on the Green Line.

By train: Lansdowne Road Dart station is less than a minute’s walk from the southern end of the stadium. There will be large crowds entering and exiting the stadium at the same time, so plan accordingly.

By bus: The Dublin Bus routes that serve the Aviva Stadium are the 1, 4, 7, 7a, 38, 38a, 47, C1 and C2.

When you get to the Aviva, there are a number of entrance routes depending on where your ticket is for:

  • For the Blue Route (West Stand Upper), enter via Shelbourne Road.
  • For the Orange Route (West Stand Lower), enter via Lansdowne Lane.
  • For the Green Route (South Stand and Main Pitch Standing), enter via Lansdowne Road.
  • For the Purple Route (East Stand), enter via Herbert Road/Tritonville Road.
  • For the Red Route (Gold Circle), enter via Bath Avenue.

A spokesman for Irish Rail confirmed to The Irish Times that extra commuter and Dart services before and after Swift’s concerts will be in operation. He said the weekend of Taylor Swift’s concerts is likely to be the busiest of the summer, with a lot of people descending on the capital. Shania Twain is performing in Malahide on the Friday; Dublin Pride and Longitude take place on the Saturday; and Fairview Park concerts and All-Ireland football quarter finals in Croke Park will take place across the weekend.

Irish Rail has advised those travelling to and from these events to plan carefully. Customers are urged to allow extra time for your journey, as high volumes of passengers will likely cause delays. And people not attending these events have been asked to avoid these routes during event times. As part of a Garda event plan for major events at the Aviva Stadium, Grand Canal Dock Station will be closed at the end of the concerts. Irish Rail events teams will be on-site at stations for all big events to assist customers travelling.

For Intercity customers, there will be late-night services after each concert at 12.40am from Heuston to Cork, with a connection to Limerick. This service must be booked in advance. More information can be found at irishrail.ie .

There are also plenty of commercial operators providing services to and from the concert, such as: Travel Master , Irish Concert Travel , Concertbus.ie , BusesToConcerts.com , JJ Kavanagh , Matthews Coaches , Halpenny Travel , East Coast Coaches . Even Belfast City Sightseeing is getting in on the action. Tickets on these services are booking out fast, so don’t waste time if you’re yet to book a seat.

By car: There is no bike or car parking at the stadium on concert days for security reasons. There are, however, commercial car parks around the city, such as Claremont Parking or Q-Park , but spaces are limited. If you’re travelling from outside the county and have a friend with a space in their driveway within the M50, that could be a good shout.

[  The Eras Tour movie review – Swifties lose all inhibitions during this spectacle like no other  ]

What will she play?

The Eras Tour is a tightly choreographed show, and you can expect little change in her set list from previous concerts. Since the release of her Eras Tour movie, which grossed more than $260 million (€239 million) last year, she has included songs from The Tortured Poets Department to the set list. This is what she performed at a more than three-hour show in Lyons earlier this month, arranged by album:

  • Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince
  • Cruel Summer
  • You Need to Calm Down
  • You Belong With Me
  • We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together
  • I Knew You Were Trouble
  • All Too Well
  • ... Ready For It?
  • Don’t Blame Me
  • Look What You Made Me Do

Folklore/Evermore

  • champagne problems
  • illicit affairs
  • my tears ricochet
  • Blank Space
  • Shake It Off
  • Wildest Dreams

The Tortured Poets Department

  • Female Rage The Musical (Medley of My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys; Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?; loml; So Long, London; But Daddy I Love Him.)
  • So High School
  • Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?
  • The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived
  • I Can Do It With a Broken Heart

Surprise songs

  • Glitch/Everything Has Changed
  • Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus
  • Lavender Haze
  • Midnight Rain
  • Vigilante Sh*t

As always, Swifties are an active fan base. If you’re a Spotify user you can listen to this fan-made playlist to get yourself hyped. It has a whopping 1.2 million likes on the platform.

What’s the story with security?

Don’t bring a bag unless absolutely necessary, as you’ll be patted down and searched while everyone else is fast-tracked through security. Any bag must be smaller than a sheet of A4 paper. Banned items include umbrellas, large-lens professional cameras, flagpoles, selfie sticks, sticks for banners, anything that could be used as a weapon, bottles, glass vessels, cans, flasks, frisbees, illegal substances, scooters, skateboards or other skates, laser devices, prams or pushchairs, inflatable or folding chairs, suitcases, laptops, illegal merchandise, hampers and cool boxes, air horns, and all animals except service dogs and guide dogs.

What about disabled access?

Contact MCD productions at [email protected] for accessible parking and information about wheelchair access to the venue and accessible seating.

Can I take photographs at the concert?

Yes, but only with a smartphone or small digital camera. Professional cameras with a detachable lens and any other recording equipment are banned.

What’s the weather forecast?

At the time of writing, there is no rain expected at all this weekend. Friday is set to be cloudy with temperatures between 11-19 degrees. Saturday will see some clouds but also some sun and temperatures between 13-19 degrees, while Sunday will be much the same, with temperatures between 13-17 degrees.

The show will take place rain, hail or shine though, so keep an eye on the ever-changing Irish weather forecast and dress accordingly. Think wellies, boots or runners, layers, raincoats/ponchos and sun cream. But remember – no umbrellas. Let’s just hope it’s not a cruel summer.

Thank you for watching tonight's edition of Politics Hub With Ali Fortescue .

We heard from:

  • Mark Spencer , Conservative candidate and farming minister;
  • Sir Anthony Seldon , educator and contemporary historian.

And on the panel were:

  • Max Wilson , former Labour political adviser;
  • Claire Pearsall , former Tory adviser.

Scroll down for all the key moments and highlights - and stick with us here in the digital Politics Hub for the latest political news throughout the evening.

Sir Anthony Seldon is our next guest on Politics Hub With Ali Fortescue .

He has penned a new book entitled '2010-2014: 14 wasted years?', and we ask for his reflections on the Tory years in power.

He says there were some good things, such as in education where standards rose, "aspects of pensions, aspects of science, aspects of the arts, Universal Credit".

But he goes on: "Overall, growth and productivity has been stagnant since the global financial crisis of 2007-8, and if we look at health, if we look at transport, if we look at housing, if we look at the state of defence, if we look at Britain's position in the world - we don't see the different historians and academics who wrote the book... there isn't the kind of significant change in the standard of all those various areas and other that we have tended to see in long periods of Tory government in the past."

He says there have been "some progressive, important, and incremental changes, but overall a disappointing performance, frankly".

"It's hard to think of any period of single-party domination by the Conservative Party that has achieved less than the party's achieved since 2010."

Infighting has been partly to blame, and it is also a party that is "unsure what it believes in" and is "confused", Sir Anthony says.

He also says "the flip flop" of policies and ideological direction has been a problem.

"There were so many opportunities that the Conservative government could have had for consistent and thoughtful policymaking, and it simply hasn't happened."

Despite the "stability" brought by Rishi Sunak and Lord Cameron, Labour is on track for "a very significant victory" on Thursday.

He notes that no party since 1832 have ever won five general elections in a row, and adds: "It is going to be a colossal Labour victory, akin to 1945."

Celebrities endorsing political parties is not a new phenomenon, but Sir Elton John publicly backing Labour today has got people thinking - do they actually help things shift?

Max Wilson, former Labour political adviser, tells the Politics Hub With Ali Fortescue that endorsements from the famous are a "good thing".

But, he says that they are unlikely to "shift the dial" or increase the number of votes.

"It is a nice thing to have, but I don't think it is a prerequisite to winning," he adds.

Former Tory adviser Claire Pearsall feels the idea has "really gone out of fashion".

"It has sort of slid away over the years... I would be more impressed if it was sort of Margaret from Burnley telling us exactly why she's voting for whichever party," she adds.

"We're now in the realms of understanding that real people want to see people like them."

It is the final weekend before the election, and parties have been making the most of it with leaders out campaigning.

Here's where they've been focusing their efforts today:

Rishi Sunak has been marking Armed Forces Day by meeting veterans at an event near Catterick in North Yorkshire.

He hailed the "duty, dedication and selfless personal sacrifice" of servicemen and women, before embarking on a community visit in Neasden in northwest London.

Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey promised to reverse cuts to numbers in the armed forces as he set off on a 1,300-mile battle bus tour from John O'Groats in Scotland to Land's End in England.

The SNP's leader John Swinney has been campaigning in a couple of areas in Scotland, including Glasgow, where he told voters a Labour government is a foregone conclusion.

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has been at a veterans' coffee morning in Hampshire, where he has pledged to "lead a government of service" if elected.

This evening, he has held a rally in Central London - where there was an endorsement from Sir Elton John and his husband David Furnish -and a warning that the Tories could still win the election.

We are now hearing from our panel about the racism row engulfing Reform UK - and the intensification of the Tories' attack.

Asked if the party should have been more on the attack from the start, Claire Pearsall , former Tory adviser, replies: "Yes."

She says it is "unsurprising" that Nigel Farage leading a party on an anti-immigration platform would be "loud, and brash, and against the Conservative Party".

"Why anybody would tip toe round saying 'we need to be nice to him' is absolutely beyond me."

She also notes that this is an election, so "surely you need to go out there and tell everybody why you're the best".

Considering doing a deal with Reform at the start of the campaign was "the wrong approach".

Max Wilson , former Labour political adviser, says the Tories got too close to Reform, with some candidates suggesting at the start of the campaign that Mr Farage could join the party after the election.

"It seems a bit mad to me that in a short campaign, you're actually entertaining the idea that your rival might actually join the party," he says.

He goes on to say that the Tories needed to hold back on Reform because of the party's supporters have, in their view, "strayed from the true faith" - but the comments that have come out over the last few days mean that the Tories can go on the attack.

Ms Pearsall  adds that Mr Farage "whether you love him or loathe him has bought in a sort of dynamism to what was a pretty dull campaign".

She says there needs to be more scrutiny on his policies as well if he wants to be the new opposition and a major political player.

As a former supporter of Boris Johnson, Mark Spencer has been asked if he thinks the former prime minister would be doing a better job than Rishi Sunak in the Conservative's election campaign.

"I think that's unfair actually," he says, saying that voters understand the "big issues" and the "big challenges".

He goes on to say that the nation has been "unlucky" with global events, and Rishi Sunak has started to get that disruption "under control".

Mr Spencer has previously found himself facing criticism for saying people do not care about lockdown parties, which took place during the COVID pandemic.

Ali asks him how he feels about the comments now.

He says there were "huge challenges" facing the government at the time, and he's "sure mistakes were made along the way".

The first guest on tonight's edition of Politics Hub With Ali Fortescue  is Mark Spencer, the farming minister.

We start by putting to him that the Tory party seems to be intensifying its attacks on Reform UK and Nigel Farage, and put to him the question that many of his colleagues are asking privately, which is why it didn't happen sooner.

He replies: "I think the mask has slipped a bit, hasn't it, really. And we sort of see what some of these Reform candidates are like, and it must be pretty scary, actually, for people who have heard those comments, who are affected by them - they are pretty abhorrent."

He goes on to say that Rishi Sunak's response was "very powerful", talking about the impact on his daughters of them hearing him being call racist terms.

The minister dodges the question of whether racism in Reform came as a surprise to him, speaking about "how shocking it is that someone in this country judges other people by the colour of their skin".

"In this age, the fact that we're having this conversation is pretty sad," he says.

Ali puts to the minister that some in the party have said they would welcome Mr Farage in the party, and today the party is on the attack.

But he replies that many supporters of Reform "do actually share the Conservative Party's concerns about the Labour Party", adding that "the sad thing is" that voting for Reform would see Labour in power.

His message to voters is that if they want tax cuts, for example, they should vote Conservative.

Warning again that voting for Mr Farage's party would let Labour into power, he says: "I think those who are minded to vote for Reform should stop and think about that, stop and think about what they will deliver and for how long."

Our first story tonight on Politics Hub With Ali Fortescue  is Reform UK withdrawing support from three of its parliamentary candidates as the racism row engulfing the party continues to grow.

The party led by Nigel Farage is no longer supporting Edward Oakenfull, who is standing in Derbyshire Dales, Robert Lomas, a candidate in Barnsley North, and Leslie Lilley, standing in Southend East and Rochford, after alleged comments made by them emerged in the media.

It comes as party leaders from across the political spectrum have lined up to condemn Reform UK, and told Mr Farage he needs to "get a grip" of his party.

Education Secretary Gillian Keegan has joked about needing a new job next week as she faces being one of the Tories' most high-profile election casualties.

The cabinet minister is projected to lose her Chichester seat in West Sussex to the Lib Dems, who are aiming to smash the so-called "blue wall" in southern England.

During a visit to a school in her constituency, Ms Keegan was asked by pupils what job she would do if she was not an MP.

"I might have to answer that question next Friday", she said.

Ms Keegan later told the PA news agency that the polls were "all over the place" and "I have never taken anything in my whole life for granted".

But her initial answer reflects the defeatist mood of some Tories as multiple polls suggest Britain's political landscape is about to be fundamentally re-drawn, with Labour  on course for a historic majority.

Ms Keegan is one of more than a dozen senior figures at risk of having a so-called "Portillo moment" - a reference to Michael Portillo, the Conservative minister who was famously unseated as Tony Blair swept to power in 1997.
