ON A PRIVATE GUIDED TOUR IN CAIRO

nile cruise recommendations

All our Nile cruise and Stays include Cairo sightseeing visiting the Great Pyramids.

All of our existing Nile Cruise and Stay packages include at least two or three nights in Cairo so that we can show you some of the very best attractions to be found in and around Cairo, from the ancient Giza Pyramids on the outskirts of Cairo, to the first pyramid built at Saqqara, and more.

In addition to the pyramids at Giza and Saqqara, you can also look forward to visiting a number of other fascinating places in and around Cairo, including places such as the Egyptian Museum; the Cairo Citadel and its famous Muhammad Ali Alabaster Mosque; the Ben Ezra Synagogue; the Hanging Church of Cairo; Memphis, the capital of the Old Kingdom, and the not-to-be-missed Khan el Khalili Bazaar which has been going ever since the late 14 th  century.

There are or course an almost infinite number of other wonderful things to see and do in and around Cairo, and because we also offer  Customized Egypt Vacations  we can tailor your tour to include any and all other attractions you would like to see while you are in Cairo.

Unless it is clearly stated otherwise in our itineraries, your tours in and around Cairo are all private tours that also include your own personal driver and one of our friendly Egyptologist tour guides.

Interesting Fact  – Did you know that while images of the Great Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx have become synonymous with the face of Ancient Egypt and its powerful pharaohs, only a very small number of pharaohs were actually laid to rest in pyramids? Most were in fact buried in rock-cut tombs such as those found in the Valley of the Kings and Valley of the Queens in Luxor.

CRUISING THROUGH THE NILE RIVER VALLEY

nile cruise and stay all inclusive

Whether your 5-Star Nile cruise ship takes you from Aswan to Luxor, or whether it takes you from Luxor to Aswan, the magic simply doesn’t end; from the time you board your beautifully appointed cruise ship, to the time you finally disembark at the end of your cruise.

Any Nile cruise is a wonderful experience, but when you have booked one of our Nile Cruise and Stay holidays, it is even better because you will once again have one of our friendly Egyptologist tour guides with you to show you around all the incredible sites you will be visiting during your cruise.

The cruise ships which we book our clients onto are literally like floating hotels with all the regular amenities people have come to expect when they book into a good hotel. We also book our clients onto these ships on a full-board basis so you don’t even need to worry about meals during your cruise.

Even though our various Nile Cruise and Stay packages can vary significantly from one package to the next, you can still expect to visit and explore the same amazing sites while you are enjoying your 5-Star cruise through the Nile River Valley. Below is a breakdown of which incredible sites you can look forward to visiting with your Egyptologist tour guide during your cruise:

ASWAN AND ITS ANCIENT – AND MODERN WONDERS

In Aswan, 3 attractions which feature in just about all of our Nile Cruise and Stay holidays are the astonishing Aswan High Dam; the massive Unfinished Obelisk, and the truly remarkable Temple of Philae. While the Aswan High Dam is by no means an ancient attraction, or even a very old one, it is still a very remarkable place to visit, not least because of the fact that it quite literally changed the face and future of Egypt forever. It also gave birth to the forming of Lake Nasser which in turn led to the rescue and relocation of several ancient sites which would otherwise have vanished below the water when the lake formed.

The ancient Temple of Philae which you will visit while you are in Aswan is just one example of a magnificent monument that had to be rescued by moving it in its entirety from its original location to higher ground. Some of our Nile Cruise and Stay holidays also include a visit to the Abu Simbel temples which are located approximately 230km away from Aswan, and if your chosen itinerary includes a visit to these two gigantic temples, you will be even more amazed to know that they too were relocated in their entirety to higher ground

KOM OMBO TEMPLE

All the Nile River cruises that feature in our Nile Cruise and Stay packages stop at Kom Ombo which is just a relatively short distance away from Aswan. When your cruise ship docks at Kom Ombo, your Egyptologist tour guide will accompany you on a tour to the absolutely fascinating Temple of Kom Ombo. This Unique ancient complex was constructed in honor of two different gods, Sobek the crocodile God, and Horus the falcon-headed god.

In order to avoid offending either of these two gods, the temple was built in such a way so that each god would have their own half, and both halves had to be identical in every way. It is really a unique and incredibly fascinating site, and you’ll guide will be more than happy to share its history with you.

EDFU TEMPLE

After your ship leaves Kom Ombo, the next place it will dock at is Edfu. Once the vessel docks here, your Egyptologist tour guide will once again escort you on an excursion to see the absolutely indescribable Temple of Horus.

This remarkable ancient complex was abandoned by the Romans and later became buried beneath the sand, and it remained that way for more than two thousand years. As a result, it is today the most well-preserved ancient temple ever discovered in Egypt.

LUXOR – THE ANCIENT CAPITAL CITY OF THEBES

best nile cruise and stay

The tours which you will enjoy once your ship docks at Luxor, are tour experiences which you are not likely to ever forget. Usually, sightseeing tours in Luxor are divided into two stages: an East Bank tour and a West Bank tour. During your East Bank tour, you can look forward to seeing places such as the beautifully preserved Luxor Temple, as well as the sprawling Karnak Temple complex which was once a temple city which was formed over a period of more than two thousand years.

When you are taken for your West Bank tour, the sightseeing is just as spectacular, and you can look forward to visiting places such as the Colossi of Memnon; the mortuary Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, and of course the sprawling necropolis known as the Valley of the Kings. It is within this ancient necropolis where the tomb of King Tutankhamun was discovered in 1920  by Howard Carter. When the tomb was discovered, it was still sealed and intact, and full of treasures and artifacts, all of which are on display at the Treasures Room at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.

Our Nile Cruise and Stay holidays do not include an admission ticket for the tomb of King Tutankhamun, but a ticket can be purchased on the site. Unfortunately, tour operators are no longer able to purchase tickets on behalf of their clients. It is also worth noting that there are always long queues of people waiting to see the world’s most famous ancient tomb, and only a certain number of tickets are sold each day. In light of this, if you want to see inside King Tutankhamen’s tomb it is best to let us know well in advance because you will probably need to spend at least one or more additional days in Luxor.

Combine the best of a relaxing holiday on Egypt's Red Sea coast with a voyage of discovery as you cruise through 5,000 years of Egyptian history on a Nile cruise. Makadi Bay has a laid back atmosphere and stunning surroundings while nearby Hurghada combines modern facilities with the vibrancy of its old town. Each offers excellent opportunities for snorkelling and diving on colourful coral reefs – or even just relaxing by the pool with a cocktail.

Day 1-3: Arrival at the Red Sea

A typical itinerary sees you fly direct to Hurghada or Makadi Bay on Friday for the first 3 nights at your chosen hotel (or Marsa Alam on Wednesday for the first 5 nights). The cruise starts on Monday, so you can relax and enjoy the Red Sea until the itinerary commences.

Day 4: Arriving in Luxor

Luxor, is the site of the ancient Egyptian capital, Thebes, and home to many of the most renowned monuments, tombs and temples. It is the starting point for your Nile cruise. On arrival at Luxor you will check in to your chosen cruise ship.

Day 5: Luxor and East Thebes

After breakfast visit the East bank of Thebes and the Temples of Luxor and Karnak. At the vast open air museum of Karnak, marvel at the Great Hypostyle Hall with its 134 columns. Enjoy lunch and dinner on board, and overnight in Luxor.

Day 6: Luxor and Western Thebes

Travel to the West Bank, Thebes and the Valley of the Kings, final resting place of the Pharaohs; there is an optional visit to Tutankhamun’s tomb*. Other highlights include the imposing Temple of Hatshepsut, the gigantic Colossi of Memnon, and Medinet Habu temple. In the afternoon, sail to Esna. Dinner is on board and you overnight at Esna.

Day 7: Kom Ombo to Aswan

The cruise continues via the impressive sight of Kom Ombo standing sentinel at a bend in the river. Visit this unusual double temple, built in 250BC to honour the crocodile-headed Sobek and the falcon-headed Horus, before sailing on to Aswan.

Day 8: Agilika & the Temples of Philae

Visit the unfinished obelisk first thing, then take a motor boat from Aswan to the island of Agilika and the Temples of Philae, devoted to Isis, and visit the famous Aswan High Dam Enjoy an optional day trip to Aswan Nubian Village national park*

Day 9: Aswan

A free day to explore Aswan and its lively Souk, enjoy the optional early morning excursion to Abu Simbel*, or to simply relax on board. In the afternoon, enjoy a boat ride along the Nile, before embarking and sailing to Kom Ombo. Overnight at Kom Ombo.

Day 11-15: The Red Sea

After breakfast, relax on board ship before transferring back to our Red Sea resort by coach. As before, the transfer will take around 5 hours. On arrival at the Red Sea, check in to your hotel and enjoy the rest of your holiday at leisure, enjoying the hotel facilities, or the many diving and snorkelling opportunities. On the day of departure you will transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK.

The average cost of an Egypt tour varies depending on factors such as duration, accommodation, activities and level of luxury. However, a moderate 7 to 10-day tour typically ranges from $1,500 to $3,000 per person, which includes major attractions such as the Pyramids of Giza, Luxor, and Aswan.

The best months for a Nile cruise are usually between October and April when the weather is mild and more comfortable for sightseeing. During these months, temperatures are cooler, and the risk of extreme heat is less, providing ideal conditions to explore Egypt's historical sites along the river.

A four-night cruise affords enough time to see the Nile’s major highlights including the temples of Luxor and Abu Simbel, while a more leisurely paced seven-night cruise reveals a wealth of additional less-frequented sites, such as Dra Abu Nag and the magnificent Medinet Habu, built by Ramses III.

Yes, visitors are allowed into select interior chambers of one of Giza’s three most iconic pyramids. The Giza Pyramid Complex (or Giza Necropolis) also comprises some ancillary pyramid complexes and the Great Sphinx of Giza.

Aswan and Abu Simbel are can’t-miss sites in Upper Egypt. Fronting the Nile, Aswan boast a wealth of monumental treasures, including the Philae temple complex, the Temple of Isis and the Temple of Khnum. Located southwest of Aswan, the small Nubian village of Abu Simbel is renowned for its two massive rock-cut temples, both built during the reign of King Ramses II (1200 BC).

Egyptologists are experts who study the language, history and culture of ancient Egypt, a period dating back to 7,000 BC. Their skillsets span humanities disciplines such as literary theory to hard sciences, including the physics of radiocarbon dating. Leading every journey to Egypt, all of JtE Guides and Resident Tour Directors are also trained Egyptologists, revealing privileged insights every step of the way.

Yes, a tourist visa is required for U.S. and Canadian passport holders for entry into Egypt. JtE recommends an electronic visa (eVisa). To apply online, visit visa2egypt.gov.eg/eVisa/Home.

Its extravagant design and sheer size is an indication of the country’s prosperity at the time.

Return to your cruise boat and continue our journey further downstream to Luxor, passing through the Esna Locks. It is common to queue to proceed through the lock, however this is a great opportunity to check out the process from deck, and listen to the shouts of the many captains as they navigate their way through the various small boats of merchants selling their wares.

holidays to egypt nile cruise

1. Select the Right Time to Cruise

The best time to cruise the Nile is amid Egypt’s cooler months, from October to April. During these months, temperatures are more direct, making touring more comfortable. Avoid the peak summer months (June to Eminent) when the warm can be serious, making open air exercises less enjoyable.

2. Select the Ideal Cruise Ship

The Nile offers an assortment of cruising choices, from extravagance liners to conventional feluccas and dahabiyas. Extravagance liners give cutting edge civilities and consolation, whereas feluccas and dahabiyas offer a more insinuate and true cruising involvement. Select a voyage that adjusts with your inclinations and budget. Inquire about distinctive administrators and perused surveys to discover a trustworthy company with great service.

3. Pack Smart

Packing wisely can make a huge difference on your voyage. Lightweight, breathable clothing is fundamental for the warm climate. Don’t miss  packing a cap, water, shades, and sunscreen to protect yourself from the sunrays. Comfortable strolling shoes are a must for investigating old sites. Furthermore, consider bringing a little backpack for day trips and excursions.

4. Plan Your Itinerary

A well-planned schedule ensures you don’t miss out on key attractions. Most Nile travelers travel between Luxor and Aswan, stopping at critical destinations such as the Valley of the Rulers, Karnak Sanctuary, Edfu’s Sanctuary of Horus, and Kom Ombo Sanctuary. Investigate these goals previously to prioritize your must-see spots. A few cruises moreover offer optional trips to Abu Simbel, which are exceedingly recommended.

5. Stay Hydrated and Healthy

The Egyptian sun can be strong, so remaining hydrated is crucial. Drink plenty of bottled water all through the day, particularly when exploring open air destinations. Be cautious with nourishment and water; stick to bottled water and dodge crude or undercooked nourishments to avoid any stomach issues. It’s moreover a great thought to bring a little to help pack with basics like torment relievers, band-aids, and any individual medications.

6. Respect Local Customs and Culture

Egypt is a nation with wealthy social conventions. Dress humbly, particularly when going to religious sites. For women, this typically means covering shoulders and knees. Continuously inquire for authorization some time recently taking photos of local people, and be careful of local traditions and practices. Showing regard for Egypt’s culture improves your travel involvement and cultivates positive interactions with locals.

7. Take Advantage of Guided Tours

Many Nile cruises offer guided visits with learned Egyptologists. These guides give profitable experiences into the history and centrality of the destinations you visit. Their skill can incredibly upgrade your understanding and appreciation of old Egyptian civilization. Take full advantage of these visits and don’t waver to inquire questions.

8. Capture the Moments

The Nile River and its surroundings offer incalculable photo openings. Whether it’s the stunning temples, the pleasant riverbanks, or the dynamic markets, you’ll need to capture these memories. Bring a great quality camera or smartphone and consider bringing additional batteries or a versatile charger. Be conscious and take after any photography rules at authentic sites.

9. Enjoy Onboard Activities

Nile cruises regularly include a run of onboard activities, from conventional Egyptian entertainment to cooking classes and spa medicines. Take part in these activities to make the most of your time on the dispatch. They offer a unwinding and pleasant way to experience Egyptian culture and loosen up after a day of sightseeing.

10. Be Prepared for Tipping

Tipping, or “baksheesh,” is standard in Egypt and is anticipated for different services, counting guides, drivers, and voyage staff. It’s advisable to keep little categories of Egyptian pounds for tipping. Numerous journey operators give rules on tipping sums, so take after these proposals to guarantee reasonable and acknowledged gratuities.

Final Words

Cruising the Nile in Egypt is an extraordinary adventure that guarantees unforgettable experiences. By taking after these ten tips, you can guarantee a smooth, agreeable, and improving travel. From selecting the right time and journey transport to regarding nearby customs and remaining solid, each step plays a vital part in creating the idealized Nile journey. Embrace the magic of the Nile and the wonders of old Egypt, and set out on a voyage that will take off you with lasting memories.

While it’s possible to explore some sites independently, booking guided tours in advance can provide invaluable insights and ensure a smoother experience. Guided tours are highly recommended for complex sites like the pyramids, Valley of the Kings, and ancient temples.

It’s important to dress modestly when visiting religious sites or Islamic mosques. Opt for lightweight, loose-fitting clothing that covers your shoulders and knees. Women may also want to carry a scarf to cover their heads when entering mosques.

No specific vaccinations are required for most travelers, but it’s always a good idea to consult with your healthcare provider before your trip. Ensure your routine vaccinations are up-to-date, and consider getting vaccinated against hepatitis A and typhoid fever. Bringing insect repellent and staying hydrated are also recommended.

Yes, most nationalities require a visa to visit Egypt. However, the process is relatively straightforward, and there are a couple of ways to obtain one:

Visa on Arrival: Citizens of many countries can obtain a visa upon arrival at Egypt’s international airports. The process involves filling out a form, paying a fee (typically around $25 USD, payable in cash), and having a passport valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay.

E-Visa: For added convenience, many nationalities can apply for an e-Visa in advance through the official Egyptian government portal ([invalid URL removed]). The process is entirely online and typically takes a few days for approval.

Important Notes:

Specific Requirements:  Always double-check the visa requirements for your specific nationality, as there may be variations. Some countries may have additional requirements or longer processing times.

Visa Validity:  The most common tourist visa for Egypt is valid for 30 days. If you plan to stay longer, consider applying for a multiple-entry visa or inquire about visa extensions upon arrival.

Resources:  For official visa information and updates, visit the Egyptian government website or consult your nearest Egyptian embassy or consulate.
