Self-Guided Tours

All tours currently offered at the Guinness Storehouse are self-guided and admission is valid for approximately 90 minutes.

There are 7 floors of exhibits, restaurants, bars, and more to experience during your time at this historic site.

This section details some of the most interesting things to see and do while you’re taking a Guinness Storehouse tour.

The Story of Guinness

Located on the ground floor, this attraction provides some of the more interesting historical details about the brewery.

You can expect to see a variety of notable artifacts such as the 9,000-year lease signed by Arthur Guinness, the largest pint glass in the world, and the ingredients used to make their beer.

Meet Arthur Guinness

This exhibit can be found on the first floor, and it covers the history of Arthur Guinness, the man who created the empire behind this beloved brew.

While here, you’ll see some of the wooden vats used in the brewing process, a gigantic copper kettle, and many other unique artifacts/attractions of interest to Guinness drinkers.

Guinness World of Advertising

This is where you’ll find pretty much the entire history of Guinness in advertisements.

In addition to seeing how the branding of this brew evolved over the years, there are also opportunities to participate in a little advertising of your own!

One of the attractions here allows you to recreate the Guinness advertisement with a workman carrying a beam.

To see this and more historic advertising for yourself, head to the third floor.

Gravity Bar

No matter which ticket option you select, you’ll have access to a free drink at this bar located on the seventh floor.

Being at the top of the building, the Gravity Bar also provides one of the best panoramic views of Dublin, Ireland.

Even if you don’t want a drink, it’s worth heading up here just to see the view of this city from seven stories high!

Guinness Academy

If you get a ticket with access to this attraction, you’ll have the opportunity to come to this attraction on the fourth floor and learn how to pour the perfect pint from an expert.

Anyone who has ever struggled with pouring beer into a pint glass will definitely want to take a class here and learn how the professionals get the job done right!

The Tasting Experience

Want to know exactly what makes Guinness taste the way it does?

The Tasting Experience provides some interesting extra-sensory experiences to help you understand the science behind the flavour.

You’ll find this attraction on the second floor.

Food on Five

As the name implies, this is the fifth floor of the Guinness Storehouse, and it’s home to the restaurants of the brewery.

Brewers' Dining Hall, Arthur’s Bar, and 1837 Bar & Brasserie serve a variety of Guinness drinks and excellent food which will pair up nicely with their brews.

Needless to say, all the food and drinks at these locations will cost extra.

Plan Your Visit

This section will cover all the details you will probably need to know before visiting the Guinness Storehouse, including opening hours, how to get here, and commonly asked questions.

Dublin Walking Tours

How to Get Here

The entrance to the Guinness Storehouse is located on Market Street, and the address is St. James's Gate, Dublin 8, Ireland. Use this map to get specific directions.

If you're staying in the city center, chances are you'll be a 20-30 minute walk away from the Guinness Brewery. You can also get here by bus, tram, car, or bike.

Bus #123 provides the closest stop on James Street near the Pearse Lyons Whiskey Distillery, which is about a 5-10 minute walk from Guinness Storehouse.

The Luas Red Line will take you as close as possible to the Guinness Brewery, and the closest stop is the James's Luas stop.

Unfortunately, this is a bit further away, so the walk will likely take 10-15 minutes.

The closest free parking is on Crane Street, and it's only a 3 minute walk from the Guinness Brewery. If you can't get one of these parking spots, consider the Thomas Street Car Park, which is about a 5-10 minute walk away.

Dublin offers an affordable bike rental service with hundreds of stations all over the city. One of these stations is just a 5 minute walk from the Guinness Storehouse on Grand Canal Place.

Opening Hours

  • Monday - Friday: 10 am to 7 pm
  • Saturday: 9:30 am to 8 pm
  • Sunday: 9:30 am to 7 pm

The last admission is 2 hours before closing time.

What is the best time to visit Guinness Storehouse?

This attraction is usually most busy in the afternoon, so we recommend visiting in the morning if at all possible.

How much time do you need at the Guinness Storehouse?

The tour should take about 90 minutes to enjoy, but since it is self-guided, you can take your time and explore the brewery for as long as you want within business hours.

What is the dress code for Guinness Storehouse?

This brewery does not actually have a strict dress code, so we recommend wearing comfortable clothing. That said, you should of course expect that the typical rules of "no shirt, no shoes, no service" may apply.

The Guinness Storehouse In Dublin: Which Tour Is Best + The Story Of St. James’s Gate

Located at St James’s Gate, the Guinness Storehouse sits on the site where Arthur Guinness famously agreed a 9,000-year lease in 1759.

For many tourists spending one day in Dublin or a weekend in Dublin , a visit to the Guinness Factory is at the top of their to-do list, and for good reason.

Those who embark on a Guinness Brewery tour ( book it here ) are immersed in the brand’s history, the stout’s creation process, and, of course, enjoy a pint in the Gravity Bar.

Table of Contents

Some quick information about the Guinness Storehouse

map showing how to get to the guinness storehouse from dublin city

Although the Guinness tour is fairly straightforward, there are a few need-to-knows that’ll make your visit that bit more enjoyable.

Note: if you book a tour through a link below we may make a tiny commission that helps us keep this site going. You won’t pay extra, but we really do appreciate it.

1. Location

The Guinness factory is located slightly off Dublin’s south quays at St. Jame’s Gate. It’s a 15-minute walk from St. Patrick’s Cathedral , a 20-minute walk from Kilmainham Gaol and  very  short walk from some of the best whiskey distilleries in Dublin .

2. How to get there from Dublin City Centre

Getting around Dublin is handy once you know how. You have 5 options to get from the city centre to the Guinness Storehouse:

  • Walk (40 minutes): From O’Connell St
  • Public Bus (15 minutes): Get the 123 from Dame St or O’Connell St in direction of Walkinstown and get off at James’s Street
  • Hop on/off Bus: If you plan on visiting multiple attractions, the hop on/off bus goes to the Storehouse
  • LUAS (15 minutes): Take the Red Line in the direction of Tallaght
  • Taxi/Uber (25 minutes):  A taxi or one of the ride share apps will cost around €15

3. Book online to avoid the queues

While you can buy tickets at the door, you’re better off buying online in advance. The reason for this is:

  • The time slots may be full when you arrive
  • You’ll avoid the often lengthy queues

So, there’s some very limited free parking at the Guinness Storehouse on Crane Street, ( see it here  on Google Maps). There’s paid parking near the Four Courts here (15-minute walk away).

5. Part of the Dublin Pass

Exploring Dublin over 1 or 2 days? If you buy a Dublin Pass for €70 you can save from €23.50 to €62.50 on Dublin’s top attractions, like the EPIC Museum, the Guinness Storehouse, The GPO, the Jameson Distillery Bow St. and more.

When it comes to booking the Guinness tour in Dublin, you’ll have several different choices, each of which has pros and cons.

I have done each of the tours below in recent years, so the opinions below are based on my personal experience.

1. Guinness Storehouse Experience

tours of the guinness factory

Photos by The Irish Road Trip

The 1.5-hour Guinness Factory tour is the most popular tour amongst those that visit this website and I’d argue it’s the one that  most  people should go for.

It’s a self-guided tour that allows you to explore at your own pace and soak up the sights and sounds of the factory and its exhibitions.

It finishes in the Gravity Bar where you can enjoy a pint with a view over Dublin.

2. The Stoutie

the stoutie

This variation is the exact same as the first except that, for an additional €8, you get a pint with your selfie on it.

It’s a hefty charge to pay to see your face on a pint, but it’s a nice novelty for those looking for a unique memento.

3. The Connoisseur Experience (€95)

Those that take the 1.5-hour Connoisseur Experience will embark on a guided tasting journey with a Guinness Connoisseur, exploring the flavours and stories of four popular Guinness variants.

You’ll enjoy a private bar experience, learn to craft your own pint, and explore all seven floors of the Guinness Storehouse.

If you’re looking for a guided tour with a difference, this is worth considering.

4. The Guinness Academy

guinness storehouse dublin

The Guinness Academy Experience is a self-guided tour that includes a short lesson on how to pour the perfect pint, costing an additional €12.

While I personally don’t think that it’s worth the extra cost, it might be enjoyable for avid Guinness fans looking to enhance their visit.

5. The Jameson + Guinness factory tour combo

Jameson Distillery

Now, the final tour will suit those of you that plan on also visiting the Jameson Distillery on Bow St .

This is a combo, skip-the-line ticket that includes both attractions. It costs around €112 , and it includes the best of both tours.

The History of the Guinness Brewery in Dublin

guinness history

Photos in the Public Domain

When you visit the Guinness Brewery in Dublin, you’re treading on hallowed ground! It was the original site where Arthur Guinness began his brewery business in 1759.

Planning for the future, he signed a 9,000-year lease at £45 per annum and started brewing his dark porter-style ales.

He used dark malt to create his stout, which was instantly a favourite with river and street porters, among other local workers.

Then things escalated

10 years later, he decided to begin exporting, shipping a modest 6.5 barrels to England, and the rest, as they say, is history.

By 1886, Guinness sales reached 1.13 million barrels a year, and the company was floated on the stock market.

That was in spite of the fact that Guinness owned no bars or pubs and refused to advertise (this changed drastically over time). The product spoke for itself.

The decline and joining up with Diageo

In the 1970s, Guinness sales had declined, so the owners had to relaunch it and introduce pale malt.

The company merged with Diageo in 1997 but retained the Guinness brand’s rights and trademarked the Irish harp logo.

Now, in 2024, Guinness is a roaring success both at home and overseas, with the factory firmly establishing itself as one of the most popular tourist attractions in Ireland .

However, not all pints are equal – see my guide to finding the best Guinness in Dublin for more.

Things you’ll see on the Guinness Factory tour

There’s plenty to see on the Guinness tour in Dublin, regardless of which tour you take.

Behind those sturdy black gates, the Guinness Storehouse offers a memorable and educational experience that any ale drinker or Guinness aficionado will remember for years to come.

1. The brewing process

Stroll through the historic Guinness Brewery, see the hops and learn about the specialist strains of yeast used in this unique brewing process.

See the rushing waters that are a vital part of the Guinness brewing process.

2. Fittings from the original brewery

You’ll often see the Guinness Factory mentioned in guides to the best museums in Dublin . This puzzles some, but it is a museum of sorts.

The Storehouse is home to fixtures from the Guinness Brewery’s original days. Interestingly enough, some of these are from over 250 years ago.

3. Old-school Guinness ads

old guinness ads

Immerse yourself in 80 years of Guinness advertising – you’ll be surprised at some of the memories it brings back!

Interact with the ads and take photos that put you in your very own Guinness ad.

4. The journey to greatness

Track the four key ingredients that go into every pint of Guinness in Ireland’s #1 tourist attraction.

Once the brew is completed, learn about the coopers and the epic sea voyages that led to Guinness becoming an international brand in 150 countries.

Things to do near the Guinness Storehouse

Things to do near the Guinness Storehouse

There are endless things to do near the Guinness Storehouse – in fact, many of the best things to do in Dublin are a short walk away!

Here are some of my go-tos:

  • Whiskey distilleries (3 to 6-minute walk): Some of the top whiskey distilleries in Ireland are a short walk away. Roe and Co (6-minutes), Pearse Lyons (5-minutes) and the Teeling distillery (15-minutes)
  • Dublin’s Oldest pub (10-minute walk): The reigning champion of ancient pubs in Dublin is the Brazen Head which dates to 1198. See my guide to the oldest pubs in Dublin for more
  • Phoenix Park (15-minute walk): Dominated by the 200ft tall Wellington Monument, the Phoenix Park is one of the largest enclosed public parks in any capital city in Europe
  • Kilmainham Gaol (20-minute walk): Infamous for being the site of incarceration for many Nationalist leaders, Kilmainham Gaol is one of the city’s top attractions

I’ve had a lot of questions over the years asking about everything from ‘Is it worth the money?’ to ‘How long is it?’.

In the section below, I’ve popped in the most FAQs. If you have a question that I haven’t tackled, ask away in the comments section below.

Can you buy Guinness Storehouse tickets at the door?

Yes, you can. However, it’s strongly recommended that you buy tickets in advance online. This way, you can 1, reserve a time slot, 2, avoid disappointment if the time slots are full, and 3, skip the queues at the door.

How long is the Guinness Storehouse tour?

This will depend on the type of tour you take. Allow at least 1.5 hours for the self-guided tour and 2 if you take the premium Guinness tour in Dublin.

What is included in the Guinness Storehouse tour with entrance tickets?

For beer lovers, this visit is a must and for those who want to know the culture and idiosyncrasy of the Irish capital is a must. I tell you how to buy tickets to the Guinness brewery and what is included:

Queue-free entrance to the Guinness brewery in Dublin

As the visit to the Guinness brewery is so popular, it is usual that there are large queues at the entrance that involve a considerable waiting time. Therefore, when you go to buy online tickets for the Guinness Storehouse I recommend you make sure you include direct access to avoid the queues.

With this ticket you will have access to a complete visit of the factory (7 floors in total) in which you can go at your own pace. Much of the brewery is set up as a museum so in addition to observing the facilities you will also learn the secrets of brewing the different types of beer and why this drink is so popular in Ireland. It includes the tasting of a drink (beer for adults and a soft drink for children), which you can do from the glazed bar on the top floor: Gravity Bar, which has the best views of Dublin.

What to see at the Guinness Dublin Brewery

What is the secret of Irish beer? Few places can answer this question as well as the Guinness Brewery in downtown Dublin. This visit is a cultural experience that also has many dynamic elements throughout the tour. In addition to learning about the history of this drink, you will also discover details about its production and learn about the different types that exist.

The Guinness brewery is divided into 7 floors and in each of them there is something that makes the visit special so that, contrary to what you might think about such a specialized theme, the final experience does not bore at all.

Highlights of the visit

When I visited the Guinness factory I did not know very well what I was going to find and the surprise was quite pleasant; so that your feeling is similar I will limit myself to review just some of the things you can see and do in the factory:

  • Learn about the four ingredients of the beer and the secret of its foam.
  • Enjoy a tasting in the Gravity Bar with panoramic views of the city
  • Learn how to pull a Guinness and get a diploma
  • Learn the secrets of a good beer tasting and practice it
  • Option to get personalized products from the Guinness Store
  • Learn about the relationship between this beer and the Guinness World Records .
  • Discover the secrets that have made this brand's advertising a success.

Organize your visit to the Guinness Brewery in Dublin

How to get to the guinness storehouse.

The Guinness Brewery is located near St James's Station , about 20 minutes walk from the center of Dublin. If you are going by public transport, the 123 bus drops you off at the door. Access by car is also allowed and many tickets include the right to park, but I recommend arriving early in the morning or in the afternoon to avoid finding it full.

Opening hours

Barring any incidents, the factory is open to the public every day of the year except Good Friday, December 24, 25 and 26. The opening hours in winter are from 9:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and in July and August you can visit the factory until 8:00 p.m. Please note that the last access to the public is always two hours before closing time.

Duration of the visit

The average duration of the visit is two hours . The brewery has a total of 7 floors including a rooftop bar to enjoy the views while drinking a beer, a floor where you can learn how to pull beer or a store with exclusive Guinness gifts.

Guided tours

There is the possibility of booking a guided tour of the brewery, but the facilities are so well equipped that I recommend you do the visit at your own pace by purchasing an audio guide at the entrance in your language for about one euro.

Where to eat

The factory facilities have two restaurants where you can take a break during your visit. These restaurants are Arthur's Bar and the 1937 Bar & Brasserie ; if you want to eat in either of them I recommend you to book a table in advance through the official website of the Guinness Storehouse. Also, without reservation, with the general admission you will have access to the famous Gravity Bar , located on the top floor of the factory and with panoramic views of Dublin.

Special Events

On certain dates, the factory organizes events or exhibitions inside, although it remains open to the public. It is interesting, for example, to visit the Guinness Storehouse on St. Patrick's Day.

Ana's Traveller Tip The visit to the Guinness Storehouse is also suitable for children: children under the age of 13 get in free of charge. Instead of a pint of beer at the end of the tour, they can enjoy a soft drink.

If you are interested in a visit to the Guinness Brewery, you will also be interested in

Visiting the Guinness Storehouse is one of the most popular experiences for anyone visiting Dublin. For this reason, it is common to find discounts on admission. One of the most convenient is the one that includes the Dublin Pass tourist card as it directly involves free entry to the factory.

The Dublin Pass also has as one of its main attractions the free use of the Dublin tourist bus for 24 hours, something that will perfectly complete your visit to the Irish capital. If you want to know more about the Dublin Pass and the Dublin sightseeing buses, you can check this article: Dublin Pass .

Is the Guinness Storehouse Tour Worth It? Review and Tips (2024)!

Affiliate Disclaimer

Guinness is one of the most famous beers in the world, but is the tour of the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin worth it? In this post, I’ll share my honest opinion of the experience based on firsthand knowledge and provide helpful tips for visitors who want to make sure they get the most out of their visit. So let’s dive in and see if a trip to Dublin’s must-see attraction is really as amazing as it seems!

Are the Guinness Factory Tours Really Worth Doing?

The Guinness Storehouse tour in Dublin is definitely worth doing on your trip. It’s not a very expensive tour, for one, and it’s also a unique way to learn about Dublin City’s history. Whether you are a beer drinker or not, it’s fascinating to learn about how influential Guinness was in Dublin’s development and how innovative their marketing and evolution were throughout the years.

I lived in Dublin for a few months and went on the Storehouse tour probably 3 to 4 times whenever friends or family visited – that’s how much I thoroughly enjoyed the tour! Each time, I was able to take in a slightly different perspective or learn something I missed before. Plus, who doesn’t love ending each tour with a pint of Guinness overlooking the sweeping Dublin skyline?

I’ve also been on a handful of other brewery tours, and the Guinness Storehouse tour is the best of the ones I’ve been on by far. Not only do you learn about the brewing process and see some “behind the scenes” type aspects, but there is so much more to the tour than simply the brewing.

Why Is the Guinness Storehouse Important?

The Guinness Storehouse is an incredible and important piece of history, situated in the heart of Dublin where it has been since 1759. It’s a very special place to both locals and tourists, providing an insight into the world-famous brewery’s long-standing cultural and economic impact on the city.

Here you can learn how Guinness shaped Irish culture over 250 years from unique brewing methods to iconic billboards and advertisements. Not only does Guinness typify so much about Ireland’s top export, but its home offers an entertaining educational experience for those curious enough to explore it.

Whether you’re a beer enthusiast or collector, or just looking for a fun way of learning more about Dublin’s history, the Guinness Storehouse has something to offer everyone.

What Do You See on the Guinness Storehouse Tour?

The basic Guinness Storehouse tour takes you on a journey through the brewing process, history, and taste of Guinness. There are 7 floors at the Storehouse, each with a unique theme and some of which are extra add-ons to the basic tour ticket.

This is a brief snippet of what you can expect to see on your Guinness Storehouse tour.

The Story of Guinness (Beer Brewing Process)

The ground floor starts with the story of Guinness as told from the brewing process. Each part of the process has a dramatic visual component to it along with facts and information so you truly begin to see and understand how impressive the brewing process is. You are reminded that the Guinness Storehouse is a vast architectural gem of Dublin City and has been for almost three centuries now.

Guinness brewing process on the tour

Meet Arthur Guinness (the Beginning)

On the first floor, you begin to learn the history of Guinness, starting at the very beginning. Arthur Guinness first bought the brewery at St James’s Gate, Dublin in 1759. You will learn about his family and how he grew Guinness to be the popular brand it is today.

You will also learn how Guinness was first made and distributed and the impressive workers who dedicated their careers to the factory, such as the 300 coopers that handmade 1,000 casks every week. You will begin to see the evolution over the years and how the city of Dublin was largely influenced and built by the success of Guinness.

Guinness World of Advertising

The best floor of the tour – in my opinion! You will journey through 80 years of ground-breaking print, digital, and TV marketing campaigns from across the world. This is one of the most unique collections of advertising in the world from tiny Guinness buttons to giant Guinness posters and statues.

You’ll see the toucan, harp logo, fish riding a bicycle – and more! This is where you can get lost for a good while taking in all of the details and imagination of the marketing over the many years.

Gravity Bar (Free Beer!)

Ok, so THIS is probably the real best floor of the tour because it’s where you get your free pint of Guinness (18+)! End the tour at the Gravity Bar, one of the highest points in Dublin city with 360° panoramic views across all of Dublin. Take a lap around the bar to view iconic sites across the city such as the Wellington Monument in Phoenix Park, the Wicklow Mountains, or Aviva Stadium.

In addition to all that you see on the basic Guinness Storehouse tour, there are a few different ticket options to add on some extra experiences.

EXTRA: Guinness Academy

At an additional price, you can take part in the “Guinness Academy.” You will learn to pour a pint (the RIGHT way) and receive a certificate to prove you poured a pint of Guinness at the factory itself.

EXTRA: STOUTie Experience

Have a selfie printed on the head of an expertly-poured pint of Guinness.

EXTRA: Connoisseur Experience

This is the most comprehensive (and expensive) ticket option. After your tour, you will get to learn how to pour your own pint, have an exclusive tasting session hosted by a Guinness Beer Specialist, and get a seat in the secret Connoisseur Bar.

Is the Guinness Academy or Connoisseur Experience Worth It?

It totally depends on you! Personally, I think even the basic tour is very comprehensive and you still get a free pint of beer. If you want to learn how to pour your own beer, go for the Academy option! The Connoisseur Experience is really only worth it if you are VERY into Guinness beer, tastings, and special treatment. Otherwise, truthfully you can have a full experience and save some money with one of the first two options.

Best Guinness Storehouse Tour Ticket Options

There are a few different options and bundles to get your Guinness Storehouse tour, so let’s dive into which one is most worth it.

1. Guinness Storehouse Tour Entry ONLY

This is the most simple tour option at the lowest price. It’s self-guided, but you can purchase an audio guide for an additional few dollars.

Prices start around $32 USD.

✔️ CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFO & TO BOOK

2. Guinness Storehouse AND Jameson Distillery – Skip the Line Entry

Another great option is to bundle the Guinness and Jameson tours. The Jameson Irish Whiskey Experience is an excellent Dublin tour as well and is very popular. It’s a bit shorter and less involved than the Guinness tour, but especially if you’re a whiskey drinker – this tour is a must for you!

This is a guided group tour and the best part is you will have timed entrance tickets that allow you to skip the line at each location. Included is a pint of Guinness and a Jameson whiskey drink.

3. Guinness Storehouse & Jameson Distillery – Private GUIDED Tour

If you are looking for a guided tour with additional information, facts, and history – this is the best tour for you. It’s a private tour, so the draw is that it’s more expensive, however, I think it’s entirely worth it for those looking for that personalized, curated experience.

4. Dublin: Go City All-Inclusive Pass with 35+ Attractions

For tourists visiting Dublin and trying to see the most possible within a limited amount of time, this pass is EXTREMELY worth the relatively low price point. The Go City pass gives you access to over 35 attractions. Visit as many as you like with a 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5-day pass.

The Guinness Storehouse tour is of course included, as are other popular sites such as Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin Castle, Jameson Distillery Bow St. Tour, and a handful of other tours, museums, and experiences around the city.

If you are looking to get the best bang for your buck and plan on seeing and doing a good amount around Dublin – this pass will save you A LOT of money!

5. Extras & Tour Add-Ons

If you’re looking to add any extras to your tour such as the Guinness Academy, it’s best to take a look at the Guinness Storehouse website. You can pick which “experience” you would like and any add-ons that might be available. Take a look at the various prices for those ticket options below.

How Long Do People Spend at the Guinness Storehouse?

The recommended amount of time for people to spend on the Guinness Storehouse tour is about 90 minutes. However, you could really spend anywhere from 1 hour up to about 4 hours, depending on how quickly you move through museums and how much time you want to spend at the bar or restaurants onsite.

What Is the Dress Code for Guinness Storehouse?

There is no real dress code for the Guinness Storehouse tour. I would recommend wearing comfortable shoes as you’ll be doing a good amount of walking and comfortable, but appropriate clothing.

For the Guinness Brewery Tour (which is not currently operating) you are asked to wear sensible footwear (no heels or open-toed shoes), long sleeves, and pants, as it’s required to cover your arms and legs for access to some buildings.

How to Get to the Guinness Storehouse

Guinness Storehouse Restaurants & Bars

There are plenty of options to grab a bite to eat along the tour or take a break and enjoy a few pints. The Guinness Storehouse offers a handful of dining options, all of which have great food that is intentionally curated to pair well with Guinness beer!

1837 Bar & Brasserie – The menu features delicious items such as oysters, flatbreads, and their famous Guinness Burger. Best to make a reservation ahead of time.

Brewer’s Dining Hall – Seafood-inspired menu that includes some classics such as their Signature Beef & Guinness stew. A good stop to take a break along the tour.

Arthur’s Bar – This casual, fun pub has an all-day menu that ranges from pastries and toasties to salads.

Cooperage Cafe – If you just need a quick pick me up or you skipped breakfast to make your tour on time, this is a quick stop for snacks and drinks.

So, Is the Guinness Storehouse Tour Worth It?

Going to the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin is an absolute must-do on any trip to Ireland, and very much worth the time. It’s more than just a tourist spot; it’s a place steeped in history and tradition that takes visitors on a journey of discovery about Guinness beer, its founder Arthur Guinness, and the proud Irish brewing history.

From the interactive multi-media exhibits that explain how beer is made, to the rooftop Gravity Bar which offers panoramic views (and a complimentary pint), there’s something for everyone at this unique experience. Things you need to know before visiting Guinness Storehouse

woman standing in front of the St. James gate at Guinness Storehouse in Dublin Ireland

Guinness Storehouse in Dublin

When visiting Ireland you’re likely on the hunt for the best Guinness in Dublin. Everyone says the Guinness in Ireland tastes different. (It really is true!) But, since you’re a curious person, you want to visit Ireland and the mecca of Guinness to either agree or disagree. Read on to hear more about visiting the Guinness Storehouse and things to know in advance. I’ve visited twice with two different ticket types so I have first hand experience and recommendations.

Tips for Visiting Guinness Storehouse in Dublin :

Buy your tickets in advance.

Since the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin is one of the top attractions to visit definitely buy your tickets in advance online. It’s a self guided tour, but you choose the time of entry for your ticket. Especially if you’re visiting during a busy time of year or there is a large event in town it will be a lot busier. Don’t just assume you can buy them when you get there!

All experiences are not the same

What is most important to you when visiting the Guinness Storehouse? That will help to determine which ticket is right for you.

When purchasing your tickets you’ll notice that there are many different types of tickets with different activities included. I’ve experienced both the very basic ticket and the VIP Connoisseur experience.

All tickets will include the “museum” or learning about Guinness history and making beer through an interactive experience as well as a pint of beer to drink at the Gravity Bar.

The Academy experience includes another pint of Guinness and learning how to pour the perfect pint. A newer experience includes a beer with your picture on it. This is called a stoutie. With this ticket you get a second pint of beer with a fancy photo in the foam (much like fancy latte art at coffee shops.) A great photo op for the ‘gram! (P.S. Lets be friends! Follow me on the gram for all of my (beer) adventures in Ireland and beyond.) WanderLust in Real Life Instagram

The most all inclusive experience includes the museum and learning about Guinness origins, learning how to pour the perfect pint as well as a more intimate experience trying some more rare Guinness beers in a back lit bar with a small group. When we did the connoisseur experience in 2017 we also were given some bottles of our favorite beer to take with us. It was our honeymoon so they essentially gave them bottles of all of them when everyone else had to select 1-2 favorites. If you love craft beer, definitely splurge for this ticket! If you plan ahead, you could bring beer in your checked luggage home .

All of the beers in the glass fridges while theres a flight of unique Guinness beers sitting on top of a back lit bar top

Visit the Guinness Storehouse Gravity Bar for a great view over Dublin

Included in every ticket is a pint of Guinness at the Gravity Bar. They have expanded the Gravity Bar in 2020 to accommodate more people. It’s located on floor 7 of the Guinness Storehouse facility and has glass windows all the way around so you can see out over Dublin for a panoramic view.

Cheers with a pint of Guinness at the 7th floor glass lookout over Dublin at the Guinness Storehouse

There is luggage storage onsite

I wasn’t aware of this until my most recent visit, but they do have a luggage drop service here. So, if you’re looking for something to do in between when you have to head to the airport or immediately when you arrive but can’t yet check into your accommodation, why not check out the Guinness Storehouse for your first or last pint of the best Guinness in Dublin?

Length of time to visit

Be sure to allow yourself at least 2-3 hours to visit to take your time. There’s a lot to see, and plus you’re going to want to relax with a pint or two while you’re there. The first time I visited when I did the Connoisseur Experience I we spent more than that there. I think it was around 4 hours. There’s a lot to see and definitely don’t rush through it depending on what ticket you decided to purchase. If you’re planning on grabbing a bite to eat while there you may want to allow yourself additional time. But above all, don’t rush! You’ll be surprised how much time you can spend at the Storehouse drinking the best Guinness in Dublin.

Beyond the best Guinness in Dublin, food at Guinness Storehouse

If you’re planning to grab a bite onsite either before or after your Guinness Tour in Dublin at the Storehouse you can actually make reservations in advance at the 1837 Bar & Brasserie. Other options include the Brewer’s dining hall and the Cooperage Cafe. The Cafe is located on the first floor and is a quick bites more of a coffee shop with coffee, drinks & snacks. No matter what you fancy to eat, there are options at the Storehouse or there are many historic pubs all over Dublin. Read more about Dublin Things to do .

When to visit

Since the Guinness Storehouse experience is indoors you truly can visit rain or shine! Enjoying the Guinness Storehouse is not dependent on a gorgeous day. Even though my day feels a lot more sunny after a Guinness tour in Dublin with a pint in my hand.

It’s true!

The best Guinness is in fact at the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin. You should definitely be sure to do a Guinness tour in Dublin while you’re visiting Ireland. Taste Jameson Whiskey

Description

At the indicated time, we'll meet at Jameson Bow Street Distillery , located in the Cultural Quarter of Smithfield. Time to discover how one of Ireland's most famous drinks is made!

Inside the distillery, we'll learn the step-by-step process that goes into the production of Jameson's popular whiskey .  Do you know which 3 ingredients go into making this iconic drink? As our guide explains all there is to know about whiskey, we'll get to taste some for ourselves and learn what flavours to look for.

Having become experts in whiskey tasting, we'll receive a Whiskey Tasting Certificate and enjoy a free drink while our guide shares more captivating stories about Irish Whiskey and its place in Ireland’s history. On our way to the Guinness Storehouse, we'll stop outside The Brazen Head , the oldest pub in Dublin, dating back to the 11th century.

Our next stop on this Irish adventure is the Guinness Storehouse , one of Dublin's most popular tourist attractions . Thanks to our handy skip-the-line tickets, we'll enjoy easy access to the facility. Plus, a refreshing pint of Guinness as we admire the panoramic views of the city from one of the best viewpoints in Dublin, the Gravity Bar . While we finish our pint, our guide will tell us more fun facts about this famous stout before we embark on the rest of the tour.

Prepare to be dazzled by the largest pint glass in the world which rises up the 7-storey atrium, before we tour the other levels of the storehouse and discover more details of how Guinness is made and transported around the world.

Finally, after a grand total of 4 hours, we'll bring our tour to an end outside the Guinness Storehouse. Sláinte !
