Traveler Reviews

Get your own directions and do not be a minute late for this tour. Address given does not take you to the actual Hard Rock restaurant. Address takes you to a sign for Hard Rock that is around the block, opposite side of the plaza with shops and restaurants. When we finally found the correct location it was 4:01 pm. Tour was gone, no one was working the desk, no one answered the phone and tour could not be found on street. They clearly left early and made no effort to contact us. When tour returned the guide rebooked us for two days later even though we were not available. He said we could email to get a refund. We emailed for refund and were denied. They tried to tell us tour did not leave until 4:06 pm. That is false. Also, this tour was not full. Others were not prevented from going on tour based on our reservation. If they want to claim we were late they should refund our money. Just a pure money grab. We won’t be booking any tours through Viator or with red line in the future.

This is a great tour to learn about places on Hollywood Blvd. It was a walking tour. We are a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children (12 and 14 years old). The pace was perfect and time at each location was very timely. We had Breeanna who is an extremely knowledgeable, entertaining and professional tour guide. It was great learning the history of Hollywood. Would definitely recommend to others and would do it again if we got Breenna as a tour guide again!

Tamara our tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable. I didn’t know what to expect but really enjoyed learning the history of Hollywood and tidbits about certain movie stars and other celebrities!!! Highly recommend for a nice morning introduction to the iconic neighborhood

Nuestra guía sabía muchísimo de la historia de Hollywood y su información fue detallada sin llegar a ser aburrida. En general satisfecho con la visita y muy contento, se conoce mucho acerca de cómo Hollywood llegó a ser el lugar que es.

We booked this as an introduction to Hollywood. It covered the big sights, e.g. the Chinese theatre, but I was really excited to get a look inside the Egyptian theatre, which is not often open to the public. You each get a headset which is connected to the tour guide, so it is easy to hear them when you're going round despite the hordes of tourists and all of the traffic. This was a great way to familiarise ourselves with Hollywood!

We had been looking forward to this tour and it didn't disappoint. We were treated like V.I.P.'s as we went from location to location, which was special. Some of the time we saw the same things as the regular tour offered, which in itself was very interesting. For me the best part was going to the costuming and props department. It was fascinating and we learned so much. Our tour guide (I can't remember his name but he also worked on the Ellen show) was extremely knowledgeable and even though he was bombarded with questions (mostly by me) he answered them all satisfying my curiosity into the movie making business. In addition there was the bonus of a delicious three course meal in a private room of the Executive Restaurant. The food (from a set menu) and the service was very good. We had a memorable five hours at the Warner Brothers studio and even though it was quite expensive, my husband and I thoroughly recommend it.

My whole crew really enjoyed the hour or so tour of the area around the Dolby Theater. Very knowledgeable and informative guide. Enjoyed the insight he provided. I recommend this walking tour. Headsets for each participant allowed the guide to be very clearly heard. Would recommend.

Usually, I do not write reviews, but this time I really had to share my experience. I visited LA a couple of times before, but this time I brought friends who are first timers. We wanted to do something more than just walk down the walk of fame, so we booked the Red line tour Hollywood behind the scenes. This was a great choice! I learnt so much about the history of Hollywood, quirky stories and fun facts. The tour guide was Tamara and she had interesting facts, brand new news and combined it with her long time experience in the area. We enjoyed the tour so much. I was really surprised as I usually do not like to do the typical touristy stuff.

We picked this walking tour as it was just the right amount of time and at a good price. The tour did not disappoint, in fact it was fabulous. It was the right amount of walking, Hollywood facts, picture stops, history of how things came to be and there was a red carpet preparation going on. I enjoyed the tour guide, all I got to see, and would definitely recommend.

excellent tour! Jarod the guide was very knowledgable and shared his love for the city and to the cultural history of Los Angeles. in this kind of tour, you can learn about the culture, history, society, and many more regarding the magic of Hollywood. I personally highly recommend taking this tour - it will create you some magical memories.

We did the Los Angeles Hollywood Movie Experience where our guide pointed out areas where films actually made and had the movie clips to help you see. Beyond that though learned so much more...lived in CA my whole life and learned many fascinating things in just 90 minutes. It was an easy walk, not difficult at all. Appreciated too that we had audio devices to hear the tour without guide having to scream. What a fun day in LA!

hollywood behind the scenes walking tour

Review for " A Journey Through Time in Film Tour" in Downtown Los Angeles. You don't have to be a movie buff or an out-of-town visitor (I'm not a film person and I've lived in Downtown LA for 10+ years) to enjoy this fun tour through numerous historical landmarks in Downtown Los Angeles. Our tour guide, Jared, was incredibly knowledgeable about the history of the landmarks and neighborhood, and the current states of the spaces that we visited. The tour was very engaging and I loved the use of personal headsets and the big tablet he wore to show us clips of the films while we were standing right at the spot where the scene(s) were shot. Fun!

We booked a tour online for 10:00, received an email confirmation the day before the tour and showed up 15 minutes before... only to be told that they were fully booked by some giant school group. They refused to let us on the tour, even after I showed them the confirmation emails. The guy claimed it was auto generated and he had blacked out all the times that the school group was taking up. That was a lie, I had booked that tour 3 weeks in advance, they had 3 entire weeks to send me a cancellation notice or a notice that those times were blacked out. He also claimed that we were the only people affected by the cancellation and blamed us for using some hacker loophole to get tickets. Again, a blatant lie. We went to another tour group and the people there told us that there had been many people over the course of the day with the same story as us (got their tour cancelled by Red Line). They prey on people with Go LA Cards because they know we can't get refunds for these tours. Horrible customer service, incredibly rude and unprofessional, zero accountability. DO NOT take a tour with these people, there are many other options in the Hollywood area.

I really enjoyed our tour. I'm from a big city. (NY) And never thought of doing any of these tours here in NY. But it was soo informative. We learned a lot about each star and their symbol. Walked into the Egyptian Theater. He was able to tell our some cool things about the Chinese Theater. Learned a lot about the Dolby Theater. We purchased the Los Angeles Go Card, so I'm not even sure how much this cost separately. But it was worth it for a LA tourist. Tips are appreciated, but obviously not mandatory. He was definitely well informed and very helpful. So why not?

Photo of Becky J.

This was a surprisingly good tour in Hollywood that gave some good insight into the beginnings of the area and the stardom we now know. I took this tour as it was included in the GO LA city pass - to be honest I would never have taken this without it. However, I'm now really glad I did because I have a better appreciation of all the things that we saw. I'm not a huge celebrity fan or super into the Hollywood scene, so this is a good intro to those who don't have a big interest in this stuff. What really stood out was Michael, our guide, who managed to cram a ton of interesting information into a short hour and 15 minute walk around the block, while still patiently answering questions. I felt like he really was dedicated to his job and wasn't just going through the motions. We even ended up finishing a bit late but he never rushed us and stayed even later to answer more questions. Definitely go on this tour if you're in the Hollywood area and have the GO LA city pass, it's well worth it!

My four daughters ages 7-13 are growing actors in Hollywood and we thought what could be better than getting a crash course in Hollywood history. This tour did just that. The tour covers the major historical Hollywood sites within a short walking distance and most notably traces the steps of the stars as they make their way to the Academy Awards held at the Dolby Theater. Our guide Breeanna was extremely friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. She was an effective teacher for my kids and customized her presentation to their specific interests that she asked them about as the tour progressed. Their grandpa was also with us and learned a lot of interesting trivia about movies from his time. Perhaps the most valuable thing for me as a dad was the inspiration our guide provided to my young actor children. She had them wave to their imaginary fans on the red carpet, walk the path to the academy awards, and see their names in the blank stars and their footprints alongside those they love to watch. That kind of childhood dreaming is priceless. I highly recommend this tour as the first and foundational one to take when visiting Hollywood.

An excellent tour! Keep in mind: this is a walking tour up/down Hollywood BLVD. BUT, the tour guide provides headphones and speaks to you through wireless microphone allowing for easy communication of fun facts and trivia. A very organized and safe tour. Props to the tour guide, Michael, who went out of his way to help another tour guest on a wheelchair & find other lost tour guests. Bring comfy shoes!

The tour was fantastic- We went to the last tour of the day on a Tuesday, and we were the only people there! Our guide knew everything there was to know and gave thorough answers to all of our questions; I don't remember his name, but I wish I did. Our group had people from age 48 to 8, and everyone loved it.

I had a disappointing first and only experience with Redline Tours. I purchased a Go LA card when I took a trip to LA. Description of the tour and excellent reviews on travel website portrays this company as knowledgeable and fun. I called the reservation line to find out that phone reservations are not taken. Reservations must be made through the company website. You are able to choose a tour date and select number of guests. At the end, a confirmation window shows up and states that if your selected tour is not available, you will be notified via phone or email. My boyfriend and I arrived at the tour location to find out that the tours were booked out for the next few days. No one was available at the counters to assist. Tour guides were annoyed when we asked about the check in process. When we finally found an approachable tour guide, he informed us there was a school group (?) tour. He asked how we were able to receive "confirmations" and that we weren't the first to tell him we had confirmed seats. We left for a different tour and attraction as this company has a flawed booking system and lacks staff for adequate customer service While the value of the tour is excellent, I suggest backup plans if you're touring Hollywood area.

We took our German exchange student and our kids on this tour over the summer and it was amazing! So many nuggets of interesting info I have never heard before and having worked in Hollywood I thought I knew it all! Highly recommend this tour!

Culture Shock Rating

We have a wide range of tours designed to give you an insight into the destination you're travelling in and there is something for everybody. The culture shock ratings considers the destination visited, transport used, activities undertaken and that "Wow, I'm really not at home now!" factor. While generalisations are always tricky, a summary of our gradings is as follows…

This is the least confronting of our tour range. Transport used on the trip is either private or a very comfortable public option, the activities included are usually iconic sites and locations that are not all too confronting.

The tour can include a mix of private and public transport providing a level of comfort that is slightly below what you would experience at home. Sites visited are usually iconic sites, tours can also include market visits, visits to communities etc that provide the traveller with a fantastic insight into destination.

Expect to rough it for parts of this tour, whether it's a packed public bus where you are forced to stand, a visit to a local market, a local community, you are sure to have an experience that is very different from what you're used to at home.

The comforts of your home town and the environment you are used to are more of a rarity. Expect some challenging transport options, visits to local sites and areas that don't resemble anything at home.

You're out there in the global community! You are likely to be exposed to the elements, travel in whatever means of transport is available and basically take it as it comes, whatever comes! It can be tough.

Physical Rating

Our physical rating gives you an idea of how much huffing and puffing you can expect on the tour. While generalisations are always tricky, a summary of our gradings is as follows…

These tours have very limited physical activity. Usually climbing in and out of the transport provided, walking through sites, markets etc included in the itinerary.

These tours have a bit of physical activity but nothing that should challenge you too much. This could be climbing on and off public transport through to a walk through the destination you're travelling in, they can include walking only tours or a combination of walking and transport.

These tours involve a bit of physical activity from walking up and down hills in the destination you're travelling in or the surrounding areas. Climbing on and off local transport or riding a bike up to 30 kms along predominantly flat terrain or jumping in a kayak for a gentle paddle on flat water.

These Tours will provide you with some solid physical activity. Whether its bike riding, walking, trekking, kayaking or riding on public transport you will need to have a good level of fitness to enjoy this tour.

Be prepared for some serious physical activity. These tours are our most challenging and involve some serious walking, hiking or bike riding. Can involve step climbs by foot or pedal and some challenging public transport options in the destination you are travelling.

Luxury Rating

Some trips are like a stroll on the beach, while others have you trekking alpine passes. Some of you thrive on camping out on the savannah, while others may prefer a hot shower and a comfortable bed in a lodge. Follow the grading systems below to find the right trip for you.

To help you choose the trip that's right for you, we've broken all of our trips down into four service levels. Measuring the comfort level of the accommodation and transport. So whether you're travelling on a budget and want to save money by using public transport, or prefer upgraded accommodation and are happy to pay a little more, then we have a level for you.

“With her savvy, hard work, and steady hand, Marnie helped make the ‘Walking Dead’ universe the force it is in television history and television today,” said Scott Gimple, who oversees “The Walking Dead” franchise. “She guided us to make the right moves to get this show in front of millions and make stars out of our talented casts. I am ever grateful to have been able to work with her.”

Producer Mark Johnson, who has worked with Black on multiple titles over the years (“Breaking Bad,” “Better Call Saul,” “Halt and Catch Fire,” “Rectify” and the Anne Rice Universe), also shared some parting thoughts.

Also at AMC Networks , Black was former chair of its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Content Taskforce, “dedicated to ensuring the company’s brands provide a platform for authentic storytelling, increased representation in front of and behind the camera and opportunities for new diverse and inclusive voices.”

Prior to AMC, Black ran her own company, MB Public Relations. She previously led the communications team at MTV for more than a decade. Her other credits include VP of publicity at Dan Klores Associates, as well as stints at Shandwick Public Relations, YM Magazine and Edelman Public Relations.

Below is a memo from Georgia Juvelis, AMC Networks’ Chief Communications Officer, announcing the news, followed by Black’s memo. Juvelis will continue to lead the PR department, with Olivia Dupuis and Joy Phillips remaining as her deputies upon Black’s departure.

Memo from Georgia Juvelis:

I’m writing to share that Marnie Black, our longtime Head of Publicity, will be stepping down from her role at the end of the month.

Marnie has made a significant contribution to the company’s success over more than a decade. A consummate professional, she’s been a trusted business partner and mentor to so many, leading a high-functioning and talented team that’s been at the heart of promoting and elevating some of the most successful and noteworthy shows and franchises in the history of television.

Below is a note Marnie sent to her team earlier today.

We’re grateful for Marnie’s time at AMC Networks and wish her nothing but the best as she moves on to pursue new opportunities.

Memo from Marnie Black:

Hello everyone,

After 13 memorable years, I have decided to depart from AMC Networks. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunities I’ve had, leading the best teams in the business, and creating publicity and awards campaigns for iconic, groundbreaking shows like ‘Mad Men,’ ‘Breaking Bad,’ ‘The Walking Dead,’ ‘Killing Eve,’ ‘Better Call Saul,’ ‘Interview with the Vampire,’ ‘Dark Winds’ and ‘The Ones Who Live,’ to name only a few. We’ve won our share of Emmys along the way, impacted pop culture vernacular, and made television history on more than one occasion. I feel fortunate to have been a part of those meaningful, culture-defining moments.

I’ve worked alongside the smartest, most passionate, and fun people and I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together. It has been a privilege to participate in AMC Networks’ evolution from its linear roots to what is now a powerful portfolio of streaming destinations. I’m honored to have had the opportunity to shape our brands, including AMC/AMC+, Acorn TV, Shudder, SundanceTV, BBC America, HIDIVE, IFC Films, WEtv, IFC, Sundance Now, and AllBlk, showcasing our company and our team’s creativity and resilience in navigating transformative times. I leave you in great hands with Olivia and Joy and I know you will all continue to do extraordinary work.

All my best,
