Harry Potter tour - it really is magic, and they do autism!!

I have never felt so effusive about anything before, yes the tour is fantastic, the sights memorable and the castle breathtaking but that is irrelevant when you have an autistic child who needs reassurance and a mother who needs people to understand and not judge or look bewildered. The only place that we feel this happens is Disneyland but no more because Harry Potter in Leavesden leaves them all standing, from Michelle on information to Lindsay in Diagon Alley, to the lovely lady in the cafe who provided baguette with JUST BUTTER, to the manager who went out of his way so we could get a picture it was quite honestly remarkable and for me as a mum quite quite wonderful, truly for this family the best day ever, will we return we just can't wait

warner bros studio tour autism

We visited as a family in the Easter break with our 2 boys dressed in their HP robes. For Harry Potter fans (which we all are) it was great being in the actual studios and seeing some of the amazing detail that went in the films (17,000 individually named wands on Ollivanders wand shop and an even great number of potion bottles in the Potion Room.) You start in the great dinning hall and move through the various sets (Griffindor common room & Dorms, Dumbledore's study, Weasley kitchen, Hagrid's Hut etc). You get to ride on brooms with special effects making you fly through London and you can sit in the Weasley car, stand in the Knight Bus, sit on Hagrids motorbike and even drink ButterBeer and knock on the door of No4 Privet Drive....its all very exciting and the detail and planning that went into the films is very impressive indeed as is the scale model of Hogwarts at the end. Its not a place however you're likely to return to having done it once. You'll walk through and see lots of stuff but not really do anything. There is virtually nothing to read or learn or interact with on the way round, so unlike some of the museums or theme parks you can go to as a family where you'll find something else to do or see and a reason to go back, you won't here.....a shame that the inventiveness that went into the film isn't repeated. The shop at the end is also outrageously expensive and you just feel everything is over commercialised and Warner Bros don't know when to stop the milking... Go, you will be spellbound and have a great day....you'll just go once

Absolutely amazing day!! My husband and I booked our tickets for three o'clock, and 2 hours later we'd barely got half way through everything there is to see! Luckily the tour doesn't close until seven so we continued to take our time, even in the shop at the end, and I'm planning to visit again in the summer. There is a huge array of things to see, and tid-bits about the films to find out; as a hardcore fan I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience (immediately watched one of the films when I got home to point out all the sets we'd seen) - but even those who are only mildly interested in Harry Potter will find it fascinating to discover how much thought and energy went into the films. I loved seeing glimpses of the rooms and objects from the book as if it were a museum as well as finding out how they created the magic for the cinema, particularly with the audio-guide (which I'd also recommend), you get to hear all these little stories about the cast, etc. as you're walking along the tour. Can't recommend it highly enough really; the shop on its own was a complete delight, and on top of that are all the bits you don't expect to see or experience, like butterbeer (yes, BUTTERBEER!) and the life-sized model of Number 4. Absolute joy. I'd like to add/advise a complete embrace of the experience for those going - take your wand, your hat, scarf and whatever else. Photo opportunities are abundant.

warner bros studio tour autism

We went on the first week of opening, which was during the Easter holiday and was worried it was going to be packed but they had timed slots for your visit, ours was at 3.30pm so it seemed really quiet. Around 50 people were in our group and it is well spread out, therefore no pushing and shoving so you could get great photos without loads of people in the way. We had a fantastic 3hours and saw so much, it has been well thought out, the only grip is that the shop is very overpriced, and there is not much under £5.00, which for younger children is a shame, but other than that a truly Pottertastic experience.

I was lucky enough to visit during the first week of the tour opening. I visited with a group of 6 friends as part of a local coach trip. Before even entering the building we were greeted by some very friendly staff members and throughout the whole visit every staff member we came into contact with was friendly, chatty and interesting. Each tour has a separate time slot – this was one of the reasons I think the tour worked so well, as you each enter in smaller groups there aren’t any big crowds. You get to see, read and experience everything without being pushed and shoved. With only small groups gathering around the larger photo opportunity attractions but you only ever have to wait a short time. They recommend the tour takes around 3 hours, but you could spend more time if you wished. As a big Harry Potter fan parts of this tour took my breath away! But even if you are not the world’s biggest Potter fan a movie buff or anybody with an interest in working with films will find this tour very interesting. I wouldn’t advise this for younger children – it is a studio tour. I would recommend trying a ButterBeer – I mean you have to don’t you? Priced a £2.50 the taste can be very sweet so good idea to share one. Yes the gift shop does sell expensive gifts but also cheaper ones too. With key rings for £5 and I found wands priced at £25 very reasonable. Cafe was reasonable priced, clean with lots of seating. Toilets were immaculate. Would highly recommend this attraction! As soon as I heard about the studio tours I knew I had to visit. This more than met my expectations. There was nothing I could fault.

warner bros studio tour autism

My 9 year old has autism so what time slot is best to avoid the busiest times and is there any assistance available do he can avoid some of the longer queues?

warner bros studio tour autism

Fairly quiet when we were there early on a Saturday in February. Mid week would be better I would think

warner bros studio tour autism

It was very busy when we went but that was early morning, I would suggest you contact them direct for their advice, once inside after the discussion room, you go at your own pace, but am sure they will be able to give you more information if you contact them

warner bros studio tour autism

We went early morning and still queued. It wasn’t too busy though and we got through quickly. Once you get through to the great hall you can go at your own pace. It’s probably worthwhile checking with them direct as they may have special time slots etc. Hope you enjoy it.

warner bros studio tour autism

Unfortunately I dont really know if I can help... you are probably better to contact them direct.

I have an autistic grandson... so I can relate to your concerns.

There are lots of queues.. they did go down quickly though... but the original queue to get inside can take a while.. and theres a viewing room where they talk about the studio before you actually start and its very very cramped in there for approx 15 mins... im thinking about my grandson here.. at the moment he woul definately not cope.

BUT I obviously dont know how your son copes etc.

Sorry ..ive not really been much help.

warner bros studio tour autism

It was mega busy when we went, even though we went late in the afternoon. Maybe ring up and explain your circumstances and see what they could do for you.

warner bros studio tour autism

I’d try and plan for later in the afternoon as the crowds seem a lot less. I would suggest giving them a call to discuss assistance as I’m sure they will have it

warner bros studio tour autism

Last February, my time slot was early in the morning (before 10am). The first queue is to enter the first room where they'll have a quick chat about what to expect in the next room (a theatre with a movie intro).

After the quick showing, the Great Hall doors will be revealed to you and the tour will take you into the hall for about 10-15 mins before they ask you to enter the rest of the exhibit. You will not be able to re-enter the Great Hall.

From here, you will be free to wander. Note that there is one studio location where you cannot backtrack. I recall there were notices so I could take time to go back in case I missed something before leaving that area.

There will be a few queues to buy a photo flying on a broom with the quidditch pitch green screen (they have more than 6 photobooths). There's a single station to raise the broom by the trophies. In the next block of the exhibit before the lunch room, there are photo booths to buy pictures of you and guests inside a car of the Hogwarts express.

I haven't seen the new Forbidden Forest so I'm not sure if they have any more photo booths.

If you're with multiple people and really want to buy those photo shoots, someone else could queue up while you and your 9 year old wander the exhibit. After leaving the Great Hall, I walked on ahead past crowds and return to parts I didn't see when it's not as busy.

The gift shop is a bit crowded and will be bustling with people but there is so much to look at and buy. There are many items you're not able to purchase online.

warner bros studio tour autism

I would contact customer services, I have been a couple of times and you do have to queue and it is busy at all times.

At a guess for less people around you would have to go for the first tour of the day, when you are the first group in the place. Which would give you less queueing time around the tour

Harry Potter Studio Tour

warner bros studio tour autism

"The Harry Potter film series made Leavesden its home for more than ten years. As the books were still being released while the films were being made, the production crew saved many of the iconic sets, props and costumes that were created especially for the films - just in case they were ever needed later on in the series. Once filming wrapped on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 in 2010, the production crew were left with a treasure trove of thousands of intricate and beautifully-made artefacts, many of which wouldn't have been saved on a typical production. The team behind Warner Bros. Studio Tour London - The Making of Harry Potter wanted to preserve and showcase these iconic props, costumes and sets so that Harry Potter fans could experience the magic of filmmaking first-hand. Many of the original cast and crew returned to reassemble the sets and record their memories from filming, and on 31st March 2012, the Studio Tour opened its doors. Set adjacent to the working film studios where all eight Harry Potter films were made, the Studio Tour offers visitors the unique opportunity to explore two soundstages and a backlot filled with original sets, animatronic creatures and breathtaking special effects."

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter has partnered with the charity Guide Dogs to improve accessibility for visitors who are blind or visually impaired. The Studio Tour , which has welcomed guide dogs since it first opened in 2012, has sponsored three adorable guide dogs in training – a black Labrador, a yellow Labrador, and a golden retriever. Dogwarts: Harry Potter studio tour sponsors guide dogs to improve accessibility

Words:  Bea Mitchell

Meet the guide dogs named Harry, Ron and Hermione

UK charity Guide Dogs has partnered with the Warner Bros. Studios Tour London to improve accessibility for visitors with visual impairments.

As part of the year-long partnership, dubbed ‘Dogwarts’, the Harry Potter studio tour has sponsored three guide dogs in training – black Labrador Harry, yellow Labrador Ron, and Golden Retriever Hermione.

Since opening in 2012, the studio tour in Watford has welcomed guide and assistance dogs. Working with Guide Dogs, the attraction is introducing new initiatives such as iPads that can be used to magnify signs and descriptions.

Guide Dogs will also provide staff at the studio tour with training resources to help guests who are blind or visually impaired.

Geoff Spooner, senior vice president and general manager at Warner Bros. Studio Tour London, said: “We love welcoming everyone to the studio tour to step behind the scenes of their favourite Harry Potter moments and discover how they were brought to life through the magic of filmmaking.

“Our partnership with Guide Dogs marks our steadfast commitment to become a best practice example of accessibility for those with sight loss in UK attractions .

“We also hope to drive change throughout the industry that makes a real difference.”

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London is home to iconic sets, authentic props and original costumes from the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films.

New initiatives at studio tour

Sets include the Forbidden Forest, the Great Hall, Platform 9¾, Diagon Alley, the  Gringotts Wizarding Bank , and Professor Sprout’s greenhouse.

Kerry Kernan , head of children, young people and families at Guide Dogs , added: “We are delighted to be working with the studio tour team and hope our partnership will improve the experience and make a difference to visitors with visual impairment.

“Through our consultation, advice and training, we hope to encourage change across the UK attractions industry to become more accessible for people with sight loss, so blind and partially sighted visitors have more confidence to visit such attractions independently in the future.”

The Visual Pulse Of London

Warner bros. studio tour london and guide dogs establish a partnership set to lead the way for accessibility across uk visitor attractions.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London and charity Guide Dogs have announced a year-long partnership which aims to bring best practice accessibility to the Studio Tour for people who are blind or visually impaired. The home of filmmaking magic hopes to lead the way for UK visitor attractions and encourage the industry to become more inclusive.

To mark the start of the partnership, through the Name a Puppy scheme Warner Bros. Studio Tour London has sponsored three adorable guide dog puppies in training – a black Labrador, yellow Labrador and a golden retriever. Named after the trio of leading characters in the iconic film series – Gryffindor house members Harry, Ron and Hermione – the Studio Tour will receive progress updates throughout each puppy’s development.

Studio Tour’s contribution will provide vital support for the three puppies as they embark on their remarkable journey, covering essential expenses including training, food, and veterinary care. This support is crucial during this pivotal time in their development and journey as they aspire to become life changers.

With 250 people in the UK* starting to lose their sight every day, the partnership will see the Studio Tour introduce various initiatives over the next 12 months and cement its commitment to developing inclusive policies for its team members and visitors.

The Studio Tour has welcomed guide and assistance dogs since they opened in 2012, with existing policies and guides in place to support those with sight loss or visual impairment, such as the availability of audio descriptive tours upon request. Through the partnership, further changes have been made to enhance the visitor experience.

Working closely with Guide Dogs Head of Children, Young People and Families, Kerry Kernan and Head of Accessibility Alex Pepper, the Studio Tour has made improvements to its spending area – a designated toilet space for guide dogs to use outside – within the attraction grounds. Additionally, they are working towards introducing signage iPads which team members can offer to people with a visual impairment to hold over signs and descriptions in order to magnify them.

Guide Dogs will provide the Studio Tour’s team members with online training resources to teach them best practices when helping visitors with visual impairment. It will cover topics such as how to approach someone with sight loss, navigate narrow or busy spaces, steps and doorways, where to take a seat and the best areas for guide dogs to rest within the Studio Tour.

Team members will also learn how to safely guide someone with sight loss with confidence, skill and empathy and also the power of description, and how all of the senses can be used to bring the experience to life for people with sight loss.

The online training will be part of a wider programme rolling out which will include in-person training sessions for team members later in the year. There are also further exciting activities and changes planned for the next 12 months, all working towards improving accessibility for those with sight loss visiting the Studio Tour.

Geoff Spooner, SVP and General Manager at Warner Bros. Studio Tour London says, “We love welcoming everyone to the Studio Tour to step behind the scenes of their favourite Harry Potter moments and discover how they were brought to life through the magic of filmmaking. Our partnership with Guide Dogs marks our steadfast commitment to become a best practice example of accessibility for those with sight loss in UK attractions. We also hope to drive change throughout the industry that makes a real difference.”

Warner Bros. Tried To Mischievously Remove Russell Crowe From One Of His Best Roles

L.A. Confidential

Curtis Hanson's crime drama "L.A. Confidential," based on the novel by James Ellroy, takes place in 1953 right after real-life crime boss Mickey Cohen had been arrested, creating a power vacuum in L.A.'s underworld. A mysterious and brutal massacre at a local diner — a massacre that took the lives of several allegedly corrupt cops — reveals a series of equally mysterious plots throughout the city, each of them being individually investigated by one of three cops. There is Edmund Exley (Guy Pearce), the by-the-book Boy Scout no one likes. There is Jack Vincennes (Kevin Spacey), the celebrity cop who offer consultations to the hottest cop show on TV. And there is Bud White (Russell Crowe), a human fist who instinctively beats up criminals who piss him off or who dare to threaten women in his presence.

"L.A. Confidential" is one of the best films of the 1990s , and provided audiences with one of Crowe's best performances, which is certainly saying something. That guy is always wholly devoted to a role, even when he's in schlock like "The Pope's Exorcist." It was also proof that Crowe was capable of handling high-profile Hollywood prestige fare. He had already gathered attention from critics for his tour de force performances in 1992's "Romper Stomper" and 1997's "Virtuosity." After "L.A. Confidential," he was more openly talked about in Awards conversations. He would later be nominated for three Best Actor Academy Awards.

Warner Bros., however, didn't want Crowe to appear in "L.A. Confidential." It seems that, to the studio, Crowe wasn't a big enough star, and his presence was a financial detriment. In a 2023 video interview with Vanity Fair , Crowe revealed the insidious techniques Warner Bros. employed to discourage him from playing Bud White.

Warner Bros. deliberately stopped playing for Russell Crowe's hotel

Notably, Warner Bros. deliberately stopped playing for Crowe's hotel, and they took away his transportation. It seems that Warner, by depriving him of these utilities, would force him to miss work. If he missed work, then Warner would have every right to fire him. He said:

"When I flew to L.A., I moved into this hotel and we began rehearsals. A few days into the rehearsals, the studio stopped paying the bill at the hotel, and they stopped paying for my rental car. The studio didn't want me to be in that role. They wanted, I think, Sean Penn and Robert De Niro in the film or something. Things that they could quantify and understand."

Luckily, Crowe was sneaky, and knew how to deal with a watchful manager. Not only would he be fired if he missed work, but it's likely if Warner received an angry phone call from Crowe's hotel, they would happily take that as a sign that Crowe was unreliable and fire him for that, too. It was truly a test of Crowe's cunning. He continued:

"There was probably a four- or five-day period there where I was leaving the hotel of a morning by going down the back stairs because I knew the manager of the hotel was waiting for me in the foyer to ask when the bill was going to be paid. If I paused and said, 'I'm not turning up to work,' they would have taken that opening to get me out of the movie."

During production, no one believed that "L.A. Confidential" would succeed. It wasn't until a producer personally carried a 35mm print to Cannes for official competition that the industry began to take the film seriously.

"L.A. Confidential" was nominated for nine Academy Awards .

Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery and Museum

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
