Roadworks and travel disruption

We’re responsible for co-ordinating all work on public roads in Edinburgh. We work hard to make sure this is done safely, with minimum disruption and that road structures are protected.

Real-time travel updates and delays

Find real-time updates on traffic and travel delays on our Edintravel X account (formerly Twitter) Monday to Friday 7am to 7pm.

Traffic Scotland provides  updates about trunk roads , including motorways and the City Bypass.

Planned roadworks, closures and emergency works

Visit the Roadworks Scotland website for a map of programmed and emergency works in Edinburgh. The map includes work being done by us, utility companies and construction companies.

Download our list of planned roadworks, events and road closures . It’s updated Monday to Friday but does not include emergency works or roadworks being done by public utility companies and construction companies.

Public utility works

Public utility companies such as gas, water, electricity and telecommunications are responsible for digging holes in the road to maintain their apparatus or installing new assets. They are also responsible for re-laying the road after they’ve completed their work and making sure it is high quality, safe and has a six year warranty.

Public utility companies are legally required to display a sign at their works indicating their name and their 24 hour contact telephone number.

The Council is responsible for maintaining, repairing and replacing roads or footway surfaces and other Council-maintained assets.

Comments, queries and complaints about roadworks should be directed to the organisation that is responsible for the work.

Visit the Roadworks Scotland website for work done by utility and construction companies.

Edinburgh delays expected

The public is expected to gather in large numbers in Edinburgh to pay their final respects to Her Majesty The Queen.

With the coffin to be transported from the city centre to Edinburgh Airport, a series of local and major road closures will be in place. This will have a significant knock-on impact on surrounding trunk roads and the Edinburgh City Bypass.

Transport Scotland is working with Police Scotland, City of Edinburgh Council, the Scottish Government, ScotRail and other partners to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum, however, lengthy delays are to be expected.

As a result, people are being asked to work from home, and those not wishing to pay their respects in person are being asked to avoid any non-essential travel.

Traffic Scotland Operator Manager Stein Connolly said:

“Monday and Tuesday will be extremely busy for Edinburgh, the City Bypass, and the surrounding network, due to a series of road closures and the sheer volume of people expected to line the streets .

“ We want to strike a balance and ensure those who wish to pay their respects can do so safely. If you can work from home we would strongly encourage you to do so. Please consider your need to travel if you are not attending any of the advertised events.

“If you do plan to pay respects in person, please allow extra time for your journey and leave the car at home. Consider public transport options, or if you need to use a car, think about car sharing and using park and ride facilities where possible. On arrival, be prepared for long periods of standing. Bring water and dress for the weather. Most importantly – let’s look out for each other.

“Please continue to check Traffic Scotland and Traveline Scotland, Lothian Buses and Edinburgh Tram websites – as well as @edintravel and @ScotRail social channels for updates before finalising your travel plans.”

Police Scotland Deputy Chief Constable Malcolm Graham said:

“We share the respect and affection the public is demonstrating for Her Majesty and urge everyone to continue to be safe as they do so.

“Roads around Edinburgh are expected to be very busy on Tuesday with closures in place and people should plan ahead and follow travel advice.”

City of Edinburgh Council Leader Cammy Day said:

“Tuesday’s events will be of an unprecedented scale, even for our Capital City, so I’m really proud that Edinburgh’s playing such a significant role in these ceremonial events with the eyes of the world are on us.

“Thousands of people lined the Royal Mile to hear the proclamation of the new King and we’ll continue to work closely with Scottish Government, Police Scotland and transport providers to manage disruption and safely accommodate the large numbers of visitors who will wish to pay their respects on Tuesday.

“We’re reminding everyone to consider their travel needs and avoid any non-essential travel throughout the day. For those who choose to try and attend events, please be aware that you may need to sit or stand for a number of hours so dress for the weather and with limited facilities, we recommend that you prepare accordingly.”

Alex Hynes, Managing Director of Scotland’s Railway said:

“We are doing everything we can to support people to pay their respects while Her Majesty The Queen lies at rest in Edinburgh.

“We expect trains to be busier than normal over the coming days, particularly to and from Edinburgh. Passengers are advised to download the ScotRail app or visit scotrail.co.uk for the latest information.”

It’s the last night of the Eras Tour in Edinburgh and we have you covered with everything you need to know.

It’s the third and last night of the Eras Tour in Edinburgh, and another sold out crowd will be heading to Murrayfield.

We’ve got you covered with all the updates on traffic, weather and surprise song guesses with our live blog below.

For those who have been - wasn’t it amazing?! And for those going tonight, have a truly incredible time.

Read more: I went to the Eras Tour and the only thing more impressive than Taylor Swift were her Swifties

Taylor Swift in Edinburgh Night Three

Sun, 09 Jun 2024 20:15 GMT

Scotland has really done itself proud this weekend.

Each night beat the previous record - Murrayfield is glowing this evening!

We can’t wait to hear the stories, see the pictures and watch the videos of the hundreds of thousands of fans who attended this remarkable concert.

Sun, 09 Jun 2024 20:12 GMT

Oh wonderful!

On the first night, Kam said “Nae Chance”.

On the second night, Kam said “Ya wee radge”

And now, the third night, he said “Bolt ya rocket!”

You love to see it.

Sun, 09 Jun 2024 20:09 GMT

It looks like its a rain show folks!!

We all know how iconic Taylor’s rain shows are - and her last night in Edinburgh could be just as legendary.

The crowd seem to be prepared for the weather, which is good, as its most likely going to be rather cold as well!

Classic Scotland - we couldn’t expect to get a global mega star here and it not rain on her.

Sun, 09 Jun 2024 17:46 GMT

Tick tock - not long now before the clock appears and the show begins.

Everyone - have a glorious time - and make sure you drink plenty of water!

I’ll be here if anything major happens - new TV album revelations, major outfit variations... that sort of thing!

Take care and have fun.

Sun, 09 Jun 2024 16:41 GMT

Sun, 09 Jun 2024 16:08 GMT

From last night - the crowd were electric!

This is the countdown to the start of the concert, when the crowd knew that they were minutes away from seeing Taylor on the stage in real life!

Really incredible stuff.

Sun, 09 Jun 2024 15:46 GMT

Brilliant! The Outlander cast were at the Eras Tour last night and appeared to have the time of their life!

Sun, 09 Jun 2024 15:32 GMT

With the Eras Tour dominating the country during its three night stint at Murrayfield in Edinburgh, fans at the show, and fans not at the show have been ecstatic with Taylor’s comments about this fair country.

Here are five things that Taylor Swift has said about Scotland during her Edinburgh weekend with the Eras Tour.

Sun, 09 Jun 2024 14:38 GMT

WE LOVE this!!

Everyone in Scotland is really getting into the Swiftie spirit, and it’s great to see people enjoying themselves in a really wholesome way.

Sun, 09 Jun 2024 14:07 GMT

We aren’t surprised that Edinburgh know how to enjoy themselves, and definitely know how to party... but it’s always nice to have the opportunity to prove it to the rest of the world.

Sun, 09 Jun 2024 13:53 GMT

Make sure that you’ve sorted all your travel plans today and you’re ready.

Everything you can do to plan ahead will make things a ton easier for you.

Having experienced this yesterday I can confidently say that pre planning is key - and water. Drinking lots and lots of water is very important.

Sun, 09 Jun 2024 13:48 GMT

Sun, 09 Jun 2024 13:47 GMT

In pictures: Fans gather for the last night of Taylor Swift's Eras Tour in Edinburgh.

In a completely expected turn of events - fans have been queuing since early this morning to try to secure their place at the concert.

It has to be said that today, like yesterday and Friday, we’ve seen some absolutely incredible outfits. People have really gone all out and it’s amazing to see.

Take a look right here!

Sun, 09 Jun 2024 12:07 GMT

A video taken last night at the concert just before Paramore took to the stage... when they say its sold out and full to the brim, they really mean it.

The noise of the fans is truly incredible - from the count down to Taylors appearance, to screaming every word to every song.

Can’t wait to see pictures from tonight - I bet the attendance record is going to be sky high again!

Sun, 09 Jun 2024 11:57 GMT

Sun, 09 Jun 2024 11:28 GMT

The stage last night was incredibly windy! You couldn’t feel it across the stadium all the time, was it was a bit chilly!

No matter how amazing your outfit it, do make sure that you’re on top of the weather, and if you need a jacket, do take a jacket!

Sun, 09 Jun 2024 11:24 GMT

I went to see Taylor Swift's Eras Tour in Edinburgh last night - I have some thoughts...

I’ve just spent a lot of time trying to explain what my experience at the Eras Tour last night was like and why is was so special.

It was tough as I’m still on a real giddy high from it all - and try to write coherently was a challenge.

For anyone who wants to live through my experience - it’s right here for you.

Sun, 09 Jun 2024 10:30 GMT

Another travel update!

A ScotRail spokesperson said: "The fault has been fixed and services have returned to normal.

There is no ongoing disruption ahead of people travelling for the concert tonight."Even thought the fault has been fixed, however you’re travelling to the concert tonight, make sure you keep an eye out on all travel updates so can adapt accordingly.

Sun, 09 Jun 2024 10:10 GMT

This has been the same over the last two nights, but absolutely worth knowing.

Having now experienced it, leaving the stadium is an experience. There are A LOT of people, a lot of crowds, a lot of queuing. Do make sure you’re going the right way and are in the right place so you can get where your going safely and happily.

We’ll keep you updated here with any travel updates that come in.

Sun, 09 Jun 2024 10:01 GMT

Surprise song time!

As they are different every night, this absolutely isn’t a spoiler.

The surprise songs last night was a mash up of The Bolter and Getaway Car - which got an electric reaction from the crowd.... and from me as The Bolter is one of my favourites from TTDP.

The next surprise song was a mash up of All of The Girls You Loved Before and Crazier.

She praised the crowd for knowing the words to Crazier saying before she started “You’ll get extra credit for knowing this one because it’s really old”.

Sun, 09 Jun 2024 09:56 GMT

Last night at Murrayfield, the record was once again smashed for attendance.

The attendance it smashed, was the night before at Friday night’s Eras Tour. Taylor Swift doesn’t do anything by halves.

I had the real joy of being there last night, and will be sporadically sharing pictures and experiences through out this blog (not too much to spoiler it for those who don’t know what they are into yet) but hopefully enough to build excitement... like you’re not excited enough.

I took this snap last night while screaming Cruel Summer at the very top of my lungs. My voice is very husky today.

Sun, 09 Jun 2024 09:48 GMT

This is downright adorable...

Watch the moment that last night’s chosen fan was given the 22 hat by Taylor Swift.

Every concert, Taylor gives the hat that she wears while singing her smash hit 22 to a chosen fan, who is predictably emotional and delighted and it’s honestly just a wonderful thing to watch.

Take a look right here.

Sun, 09 Jun 2024 08:58 GMT

Looks like tonight’s crowd may get away with it weather wise - just a touch of rain later on, but mostly dry.

Admittedly, not a lot of sunshine to be had - but as we know here in Scotland, it could be so, so much worse!

Sun, 09 Jun 2024 08:50 GMT

There are a whole ton of famous people going to the Eras Tour - but this group are especially cool!

We can only assume that they had a phenomenal time, as last night was golden.

Sun, 09 Jun 2024 08:48 GMT

Travel update

Very important travel update here....

For anyone travelling by train today - these trains in particular - do please check your journey so you aren’t running late.

There are already long queues at bus stops in Linlithgow to get into the city. Take this into account today!

Sun, 09 Jun 2024 08:23 GMT

Interested to hear thoughts on this...

I have just received this message from a friend who explained “The Swifties have visited Bobby”.

This is the grave of Greyfriars Bobby - the sweet dog who sat by his masters grave after he passed away, and is rather an icon in Edinburgh.

Friendship bracelets have been left at the base of the grave, as sightseeing Swifties go to visit the graveside.

Sun, 09 Jun 2024 08:00 GMT | Updated 08:14 GMT

Our brilliant college Lauren was at the concert on Friday and has written a beautiful piece about her experience:

“After a frantic 24-hours involving last minute travel plans, packing and not enough sleep, it finally sunk in that I was seeing Taylor Swift only as she started to sing.

“That’s when I started to cry. Rather predictable.

“I’ve been a fan of Taylor Swift for years and hadn’t thought I would be able to see the Eras Tour live. Even so, I’ve never had quite that reaction at a concert before – especially one that’s been plastered all over my social media feeds for more than a year now.

“But none of that mattered there in that moment as the crowd enthusiastically screamed along to Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince.”

Read more here.

Sun, 09 Jun 2024 08:06 GMT

For those of you who still go out and purchase a newspaper - firstly, thank you.

And second of all, in the Scotland on Sunday today, we’re all about Taylor. Do feel free to skip down to your local supermarket and pick up a copy to keep!

Sun, 09 Jun 2024 08:04 GMT

What you need to know if you’re going to see Taylor Swift in Edinburgh

For those heading along tonight - here is everything you need to know!

I had the honour of going last night, and my predominant advice is DRINK WATER! You will be singing along a lot. A LOT. Do make sure you stay hydrated.

Read more about what you need to know, and top tips for the show right here.

Sun, 09 Jun 2024 07:58 GMT

Good morning!!!

We’ve had two absolutely spectacular nights at Murrayfield and are due for one more.

Swifties once more will be filling Edinburgh city centre and tracking the route out to the stadium.

We’ll be keeping an eye on weather changes, traffic issues, concert updates - so stick with us!
