Tom Cruise has sparked speculation that he was wearing lifts in his shoes after he was nearly the same height as Kate Middleton at the Top Gun premiere.

The Hollywood heavy-weight, who is 5ft 7, was very nearly the same height as the Duchess of Cambridge, who measures up at 5ft 9.

Tom, 59, beamed as he stood beside Kate at the Top Gun: Maverick premiere in London's Leicester Square on Thursday evening.

He is widely believed to wear inserts which boost his height as he stepped out in suit shoes with a stacked heel.

Inserts are insoles that can be placed inside a shoe to help the wearer gain extra height.

He gave Kate, 40, a hand as they climbed onto the red carpet staircase, standing shoulder to shoulder.

This isn't the first time that the actor's height has changed, where he has appeared to be the same height as many of his female co-stars who are naturally taller than him and wearing heels too.

Kate was a vision in an off-the-shoulder monochrome gown at the star-studded event.

She wore her long flowing brunette locks in a middle parting and pulled it behind her ears, revealing delicate starburst earrings.

The mum-of-three was joined by her husband, Prince William, who like Tom, wore a black tuxedo.

Cruise, who is famous for doing all of his own stunts, was seen mingling with his co-stars Miles Teller.

He is said to have trained to withstand G-force power and actually flew real fighter jets in the film.

Tom, who plays Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell underwent a full Aviation Survival Training Curriculum before going up in the US Navy F-18.

They started with slower planes before learning about supersonic jets.

The actor had said in many interviews in the lead up to the film's release that he refused to even consider a sequel unless they flew real planes.

He said: "For years, people had said, 'Can't you shoot [the movie] with CGI?' And I always said, 'No. That's not the experience.' I said, 'I need to find the right story. And we're going to need the right team. This movie is like trying to hit a bullet with a bullet. I'm not playing."

Miles, who plays Nick 'Goose' Bradshaw, had also said how Tom put the cast through intense training so they were prepared for the film.

"We were all mini Toms making this movie. He put us through... I'll just call it a "Tom Cruise boot camp". We were getting in killer shape," he told Total Film magazine.

The actor is said to have "rekindled" his romance with his Mission: Impossible 7 co-star Hayley Atwell, after the pair split last year.

Last night, Tom Cruise continued his “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” premiere tour at Odeon Luxe Leicester Square in London.

Cruise wore a three-piece black suit. The ensemble comprised a finely tailored blazer that highlighted his sharp silhouette, a sleek vest and lined pants. Enhancing the ensemble’s allure, Cruise opted for a crisp white button-down shirt, which provided a striking contrast and exuded sophistication.

Elevator shoes are the biggest looksmax out there

I started with 1.5 inch lifts for the beginning but the problem with those are they feel too spongey and don’t fit well in low tops so I don’t suggest anyone buy them I ordered 7cm elevator shoes which actually give about 5-6cm and it’s the best looksmax I’ve ever done I no longer feel like a manlet in public. From 183.5/4 cm - 189cm also don’t worry about walking weird it’s totally fine up to 6-7cm. no one realises and they won’t unless you already have a negative ape index (wingspan is shorter than height) Short guys this is the biggest looksmax for you

Forgot to add this, Below 5’7 - you are not considered as human you will experience rudeness from men and women Regularly unless you have a brilliant face 5’7-5’9 you are the “short guy” experience jokes and being made fun of but overall you’re okay 5’9-5’11 average height 5’11.5-6’1 tallish 6’1 and above tall At the 5’11+ range you will command respect even if ugly that’s where you wan to be. Swallow the height pill now and get elevator shoes  

Lifts any more than 1 inch look fake, noticeable, try-hard and weird af. When will people understand this...? You can cope however much you want with shoe lifts, but at the end when you're indoors without your shoes and lifts, that's when your true height is exposed and you'll make women cry once they realize that they dated a manlet. It's brutal. Either way my shoes automatically make me well above 6'2", so idfc... and I'm not that insecure about it, till the point i have to lie about my own height. So for manlets (officially below 6'0" according to realistic 2020 stats), there is no other cope, than frauding your height by an inch at best. You're still an IRL manlet, remember that. Not even LL could save because after that your legs will be useless forever... the only fix that was to this is development during and before puberty with good genetics and nutrition... something which you can never revisit.

john said: Being above average height doesn't matter. A 6'4" guy can fraud all the way up to 6'8", but when he removes his shows, there will be a noticeable step down that everyone will realize. Regardless of the person being well above average height. There's this 5'5" guy in my friend group, he wore lifts on many occasions and everyone would always know that. But one day a bunch of new people found out and starting memeing about him wearing lifts to become taller by 2 inches on instagram and facebook. All the foids in my group were laughing at him, even after me telling them it's sad. The guy's been rejected more than 10 times as an incel too IRL which make things a lot worse. that's why I've never risked doing anything like this. You won't be caught, but you'll definitely be assumed to be wearing 'tall shoes' on purpose for looking tall. I take away my advice on elevator shoes 7cm was too much considering there was very little lift at the front of the shoe therefore it was all concentrated to the back. the best is max 1.5 inch lift heel only then another inch as platform

She's already two inches taller than him and took herself over 6ft in a pair of stilettos.

But Tom Cruise , who is 5ft 7, still managed to measure up to Kate Middleton as they stood shoulder-to-shoulder at the Top Gun: Maverick premiere on Thursday night.

The actor, 59, looked barely an inch shorter than the Duchess of Cambridge , who measures 5ft 9, as he stood beside her at the event in London 's Leicester Square.

Tom, widely thought to wear lifts in his shoes, boosted his height with a pair of black suit shoes with a stacked heel as  he stepped out in a black tuxedo at the premiere.

The rumours resurfaced again when Tom was on the promotional trail for the 2010 action film Knight And Day. At many promotional events he would match the height of his co-star Cameron Diaz, who is 5ft 9. 

Inserts are insoles that can be placed inside a shoe to lift the wearer's heel up, giving them some extra height and making them appear taller.

  A more extreme alternative, the so-called 'elevator shoe', sees the lift made an integral part of the footwear, allowing a man to boost his height by as much as four inches. 

A full set of shoe lifts can cost £250, while a single pair of off-the-shelf elevator shoes will set you back between £50 and £100, with bespoke pairs costing up to £1,700. 

Elsewhere at the star-studded premiere, which came one day after Top Gun: Maverick's screening at Cannes Film Festival, Tom was seen mingling with his co-stars Miles Teller and Jennifer Connolly.

How is this possible? While he has never commented on the theory that he wears heel lifts, he managed to match the height of his co-star Cameron Diaz, who is 5ft 9 while on the promotional trail for his 2010 film Knight and Day 

The sequel to Tony Scott's classic 1986 blockbuster Top Gun has been unanimously praised in early reviews with one even declaring that it 'improves upon the original in every conceivable way'.

Tom, who is famous for doing his own stunts, is said to have trained to withstand G-force power and actually flew in real fighter jets for the sequel.

Peter Hoskin for the Daily Mail gave the film five stars, writing: 'Whenever the film threatens to become too cosy, it shocks itself – and us – back into the present with another madly ambitious action sequence.'

Tom - who plays Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell - underwent a full Aviation Survival Training Curriculum before going up in the US Navy F-18, as did his co-stars. 

They worked up to the supersonic jets by going up in a succession of slower planes first over many months.

Much has been made of Tom's insistence on real flying scenes, with no CGI work. He has said in numerous interviews that he refused to even talk about a Top Gun sequel unless they flew in real planes.

Tom said: 'For years, people had said, 'Can't you shoot [the movie] with CGI?' And I always said, 'No. That's not the experience.' I said, 'I need to find the right story. And we're going to need the right team. This movie is like trying to hit a bullet with a bullet. I'm not playing.'

'We were all mini Toms making this movie. He put us through... I'll just call it a "Tom Cruise boot camp". We were getting in killer shape,' he told Total Film magazine. 

He explained there was a lot of detail going into the performance, adding: 'For the stunts and stuff that Tom does in movies, it's usually a very specific type of training.' 

'You're not just going into the gym and lifting some weights. We did flight training for three months before we started filming... We got put through the wringer.' 

Top Gun: Maverick is soaring into UK cinemas on May 25 and May 27 in the US.
