Star Trek is popular enough that its science fiction concepts have even been studied by real scientists, and NASA described its science in relation to the real world as "entertaining combination of real science, imaginary science gathered from lots of earlier stories, and stuff the writers make up week-by-week to give each new episode novelty." For example, NASA noted that the Star Trek "phasers" were a fictional extrapolation of real-life lasers, and compared them to real-life microwave based weapons that have a stunning effect.

From TOS to Picard: 40 most powerful Star Trek spacecraft, ranked

It's Enterprise vs. Borg cube time. From the Captain Kirk days to Deep Space Nine, Enterprise to Picard, we've ranked all the greatest ships. Resistance is futile!

star trek universe ships

This is what we call Enterprise reporting ...

Belt up: We've ranked 40 iconic Star Trek ships, probes and shuttles from the (relatively) least powerful to the (overwhelmingly) most powerful.

Our rankings are based on specs culled from StarTrek.com and Memory Alpha. The crafts have been assessed for their speed, size and ability to assert their will via either weaponry or overall world-destroying power. Craft from both the prime and Kelvin timelines were eligible for consideration, provided they belong to the Star Trek canon, which extends from the original Star Trek TV series to CBS All Access' Star Trek: Picard .

Warp speed ahead for the rankings!

(Disclosure: CBS is CNET's parent company.)

trek-ships-feb2020-botany-bay

40. SS Botany Bay

Viewed on the screen of the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) from the prime timeline of Star Trek  the original series, the fun-sized Botany Bay is a pre-warp, 20th-century DY-100 class vessel from Earth. It's most famous for its de-facto captain, the genetically modified strongman Khan Noonien Singh, better known in Captain Kirk-speak as " KHAAAAN! "

trek-ships-feb2020-phoenix

39. Phoenix

The Phoenix may be a primitive ship, but it's über - important. Per the Star Trek canon, and as seen in Star Trek: First Contact , Zefram Cochrane's and Lily Sloane's refashioned nuclear missile is the first Earthling craft to use warp drive -- and achieve  first contact  with an E.T. species, the Vulcans.

trek-ships-feb2020-friendship

38. Friendship 1

As we learn in a Star Trek: Voyager  episode, this deep-space probe is launched in 2067 -- or, four years after the Phoenix's game-changing flight. It represents Earth's early desires to seek out new worlds and new civilizations.

trek-ships-feb2020-enterprise-1701-j

37. USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-J)

This 26th-century, Universe-class Federation starship, called a "distant relative" of the Enterprise (NX-01), is glimpsed in the Star Trek: Enterprise  episode, "Azati Prime."

Owing to its presumed advanced tech, it should vie for a top spot on this list. But it's at the back of the pack because, one, it is only briefly glimpsed, and, two, a time-traveling Captain Jonathan Archer is told the Enterprise-J exists in a possible future timeline.

trek-ships-feb2020-galileo

36. Galileo (NCC-1701-7)

What this Class F shuttlecraft of the prime-timeline's Enterprise lacks in photon torpedoes, it makes up in significance: It is the focal point of the beloved Star Trek original-series episode, " The Galileo Seven ," the original prop from which was on display at the official visitor center for NASA's Johnson Space Center.

trek-ships-feb2020-raven

35. USS Raven (NAR-32450)

The remains of this Federation starship are seen in the Star Trek: Voyager  episode, "The Raven." In better days, the exploration vessel was the home -- and workplace -- of the Borg-studying scientists Magnus and Erin Hansen. Per StarTrek.com, the couple and their young daughter, Annika, the future Seven of Nine , are considered "perhaps the first [humans] to be assimilated" by the Borg.

trek-ships-feb2020-ds9

34. Deep Space Nine

On one hand, Deep Space Nine, the setting for the same-titled TV series, is just an old Cardassian mining station. On the other hand, it's an old Cardassian mining station that, by Season 4 of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine , is retrofitted with 5,000 photon torpedoes. Klingons beware.

powertrekdefiant.jpg

33. USS Defiant (NX-74205)

Don't let its waffle-iron looks fool you. This Federation ship is tricked out with a Romulan cloaking device, and is built for Borg battles. The Defiant is adept at taking out Jem'Hadar warships, and, from a storyline perspective, opening up Star Trek: Deep Space Nine . It also adds spunk to Star Trek: First Contact .

trek-ships-feb2020-la-sirena

32. La Sirena

This is the lone entry from Star Trek: Picard . According to Memory Alpha, this newcomer, captained on the show by Cristóbal Rios, is a Kaplan F17 Speed Freighter, a class of civilian ships equipped with shields, phasers -- and a whole lot of hologram capabilities.

trek-ships-feb2020-franklin3

31. USS Franklin (NX-326)

Like other Freedom-class starships, the Franklin is small, but tough. The 22nd-century craft is equipped with cannons, torpedoes, stealth technology, and, in the Kelvin timeline of  Star Trek: Beyond , seat belts. In the flick, Captain Kirk and crew salvage the rusted-up, long-lost Franklin, and use its warp 4 power to get from the planet Altamid to the Starbase Yorktown.

trek-ships-feb2020-enterprise-nx01

30. Enterprise (NX-01)

In much of the Star Trek universe, warp 5 power and a cargo-only transporter bay won't get you far. But in the 22nd century setting of Star Trek: Enterprise , this Starfleet ship, capable of carrying a crew of nearly 100, is a triumph of Zefram Cochrane's theories of space travel.

powertrekshraan.jpg

29. Sh'Raan

The Vulcans may be better known for logic than combat ships, but the pre-Federation years are a salty time, and Spock's forerunners are ready to throw down in this Star Trek: Enterprise -era craft with warp 7 power.

trek-ships-feb2020-shenzhou

28. USS Shenzhou (NCC-1227)

Introduced in Star Trek: Discovery , the Philippa Georgiou-captained Shenzhou is a Walker-class Federation starship of the 23rd century. It's possessed of cannons, phasers, torpedoes -- and bad luck. Following a mutiny, it's destroyed in 2256's Battle of the Binary Stars.

trek-ships-feb2020-sarcophogas

27. Sarcophagus

The Sarcophagus is a 23rd-century Klingon ship. It's larger than the Shenzhou, which it encounters in the Star Trek: Discovery  pilot. Its most impressive feature is its most unique feature: Its armor is a patchwork of caskets containing the remains of Kilngon warriors.

powertrekjemhadarwarship.jpg

26. Jem'Hadar warship

You can't tell the story of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine  without the Dominion, and you can't tell the story of the Dominion without its military branch, the Jem'Hadar, whose battleships can defy tractor beams and compromise an opponent's shields.

trek-ships-feb2020-prometheus

25. USS Prometheus (NCC-71201)

As seen in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine , this Nebula-class Federation ship is a floating science experiment. Its lofty goal: to reignite a dead sun. It gets the job done.

powertrekexcelsior.jpg

24. USS Excelsior (NX-2000)

The vessel that ably serves Captain Hikaru Sulu in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country  is the first Federation craft to feature transwarp drive. It would rank higher here, save for the apparent ease with which Scotty disables its bells and whistles in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock .

trek-ships-feb2020-d7

23. D7-class battle cruiser

At 748 feet long (228 meters), and with the capacity for a crew of 430, this Klingon ship is the largest of its era. Per StarTrek.com, it is also the "pinnacle of combat warships in the 23rd century." It'd rank higher here, except, well, even cooler stuff came along in the 24th century.

powertrekscimitar.jpg

22. Scimitar

This Reman-made ship from Star Trek: Nemesis   is stocked with enough disruptor banks (52) and photon-torpedo bays (27) to impress, but its real power lies in its ability to convert itself into a thalaron weapon , similar to a nuclear weapon but far more devastating.

trek-ships-feb2020-vorcha

21. Vor'Cha-class attack cruiser

A mainstay of the Star Trek universe, this powerful, heavily armed Klingon craft is nearly as long as a Galaxy-class Federation starship, a la the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D) of Star Trek: The Next Generation .

trek-ships-feb2020-enterprise-1701-a

20. USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-A)

This Constitution-class starship is essentially a replica of the original, iconic Enterprise.

First seen blasting off in the prime timeline of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home , the Enterprise-A also appears in the Kelvin timeline of the J.J. Abrams-era Star Trek films. There is no known distinction between the Enterprise-As of the two timelines.

trek-ships-feb2020-enterprise-1701-b

19. USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-B)

This 23rd-century, Excelsior-class Federation starship is a sleeker version of the Constitution-class Enterprise of the prime timeline. In Star Trek: Generations , Captain Kirk is aboard the Enterprise-B when it's damaged by the Nexus ribbon -- and Kirk is swept away (and presumed dead).

trek-ships-feb2020-enterprise-1701

18. USS Enterprise (NCC-1701), prime timeline

So, sure, the Enterprise of the original Star Trek series (of the original Star Trek timeline, natch) would lose a drag race with, say, the USS Voyager (NCC-74656), but speed isn't everything. The Constitution-class vessel is part warship, part science lab -- and all kinds of iconic.

trek-ships-feb2020-enterprise-1701-alternate-timeline

17. USS Enterprise (NCC-1701), Kelvin timeline

According to Gizmodo, the Kelvin timeline's Enterprise is more than twice the size of the prime timeline's Enterprise. Storyline-wise, however, the craft is still the product of the 23rd century, so it can't really kick it at more than warp 8.

powertrekromulanwarbird.jpg

16. Romulan warbird

In Star Trek: The Next Generation , Captain Jean-Luc Picard and crew, no strangers to swank and size, are in awe of this baby -- and for good reason. Per StarTrek.com, the Romulan warbird is "the largest and most powerful of Romulan spacecraft."

powertrekneghvar.jpg

15. Negh'Var warship

In the 24th century, this Klingon craft is the flagship of its fleet. It runs more than 2,250 massive feet long.

powertrekenterprisenextgeneration.jpg

14. USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D)

This 24th-century, Galaxy-class Federation starship is the star of Star Trek: The Next Generation , Captain Jean-Luc Picard's ride is bigger and faster than the Constitution-class Enterprise of the prime timeline. With 250 photon-torpedo bays, it's also better equipped to battle the Borg than its 23rd-century counterpart.

trek-ships-feb2020-voyager

13. USS Voyager (NCC-74656)

Captain Kathryn Janeway's relatively puny ship from Star Trek: Voyager  gets the edge over the Enterprise iterations we've covered so far, because it's smarter and faster. Powered in part by Borg technology, Voyager can cruise at warp 9.975.

powertrekenterprisenc1701e.jpg

12. USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-E)

This Sovereign-class craft, captained by Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: First Contact , Star Trek: Insurrection  and  Star Trek: Nemesis , was voted the best-engineered Federation ship (prime timeline) in a StarTrek.com fan poll. With quantum torpedoes and the ability to quickly dispatch a Borg cube, it's easy to see why.

trekpowervengeance-1.jpg

11. USS Vengeance

This is a scary-powerful vessel from Star Trek's Kelvin timeline. As related in  " Star Trek: Into Darkness ," the Vengeance was developed off the Federation grid -- and with the help of Khan. The Vengeance is the one-and-only member of the Federation's Dreadnought battleship class.

powertrekcetaceanprobe.jpg

10. The whale probe

There is no defeating this massive, cylindrical, power-sucking, starship-disabling, ocean-vaporizing threat from Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home . There is only placating it with what it wants to hear: whales.

trek-ships-feb2020-discovery

9. USS Discovery (NCC-1031)

There is nothing else quite like the namesake ship of Star Trek: Discovery . The Federation Crossfield-class starship is distinguished by a propulsion drive that allows it to jump (or, spore jump, if you prefer the technical term) from realm to realm. When last seen in the Season 2 finale, the ship had time-jumped nearly 1,000 years into the future .

powertrekxindiprobe.jpg

8. Xindi probe

This Xindi-dispatched probe from Star Trek: Enterprise  is a pure beam of destructive force. In a 22nd century attack on Earth, it wipes out more than 7 million people from Florida to Venezuela.

powertreknomad.jpg

After this 20th century Earth probe melds with the E.T. probe, Tan Ru, it turns into a judgmental little bugger that wipes out at least 4 billion people across four planets. Captain Kirk and company encounter it in the Star Trek  original-series episode, The Changeling .

powertrekdoomsdaymachine.jpg

6. "The Doomsday Machine"

In " The Doomsday Machine ," the Star Trek  original-series episode from which this nameless alien ship/lifeform sprang, we learn that "that thing" literally eats planets and everything else it finds, fueling itself with the resulting rubble.

powertrekkrenim.jpg

5. Krenim temporal weapon ship

The promise -- or, rather, threat -- of this Star Trek: Voyager  craft is awesome: Possessed of timeline-changing power, the ship, we're told in the episode, "Year of Hell," can "erase [an] entire species from time."

powertrekspecies8472bioship.jpg

4. Species 8472 bioship

This craft is organic -- heavily armed and fortified organic. In Star Trek: Voyager , a Federation-Borg team-up is the only thing that can stop hundreds of these vessels from destroying pretty much everything they encounter. .

powertreknarada.jpg

3. The Narada

This time-traveling Romulan mining ship is arguably the most significant ship in the Star Trek universe.

In the 2009 Star Trek  film, the Narada launches an attack on the USS Kelvin, and prompts Captain Kirk's father, First Officer George Kirk, to take his dying ship on a suicide mission. The resulting collision with the Narada is so massive it creates a whole new timeline -- the Kelvin timeline.

In the new timeline, the devastating Narada destroys the planet Vulcan.

powertrekborgcube.jpg

2. The Borg cube

Such is the dark legend of this inscrutable spacecraft that fans routinely debate which is more powerful: Star Wars' vaunted Death Star ... or Star Trek's Borg cube .

Before your next debate, consider this: The Death Star just wants to blow you up. The Borg cube, like the Borg itself, can blow you up, but it may just slice you up in bits instead -- the better to steal your technological soul.

trek-ships-feb2020-vger

1. V'Ger

As seen in Star Trek: The Motion Picture , V'Ger is a force-field cloud of destruction driven by an old Earth probe, Voyager 6.

That it wipes out Klingon Bird-of-Prey ships and a Federation space station without any apparent effort is one impressive thing. That it spans 7.6 billion miles (or 82 astronomical units) in diameter is another. Craft like this are not defeated; they can merely be managed. Hopefully.

The 15 Best Ships on Star Trek, from V-ger to the Vengeance

Best star trek ships.

The Jellyfish

We love the ships in "Star Trek," not only because they travel fast or because they are often used outside of their design parameters, but also because they challenge the ideas of design in general. How weird is it to see a huge cube floating in space? Or to come across a warp-speed–capable ship that looks more like an organic entity? Here are the 15 best ships of "Star Trek" that audiences have seen so far.

1. V-ger ("Star Trek: The Motion Picture," 1979)

V-ger star trek

Perhaps the most powerful ship in the "Star Trek" universe, V-ger could eliminate Klingon ships with well-aimed bolts of plasma energy. When this vessel menaced Earth and the solar system in the first "Star Trek" movie, the crew penetrated V-ger's vast complex of clouds and machinery and discovered a surprise within: the remains of Voyager 6, a deep-space probe that NASA had launched late in the 20th century. The probe had the "O," "Y" and "A" missing on its decal, so its label now read as "V-ger." An unknown race of intelligent aliens had constructed the rest of the massive ship. (In real life, NASA launched only Voyagers 1 and 2 ; in 2012, Voyager 1 became the first Earth ship to reach interstellar space .)

2. Borg cube (first seen in "Star Trek: The Next Generation," 1987-1994)

Borg cube star trek

This terrifying cube annihilated a bunch of United Federation of Planets starships in every battle. Worse, even if you managed to damage a lot of the ship, redundant systems would take over and it would continue to work — making the cube a tough starship to beat. Usually, the Borg ship could trap an attacker in a tractor shield and drain all its adversary's shields before the attacker could do very much damage. Those few crews who got inside the cube beheld another terrifying sight: all the different alien species being assimilated into a collective, one that could adapt its fighting style very quickly in hand-to-hand combat, given its hive mind. [ Where No Films Have Gone Before: The Complete 'Star Trek' Movie List ]

3. Whale probe ("Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home," 1986)

Whale probe star trek

This was a gigantic cylinder that began threatening Earth in the year 2286, bellowing a signal that nobody could figure out, crippling any ship or power grid within reach, and — even worse — creating a planet-wide storm around the planet. It turned out that this probe was wreaking havoc because it was looking for something important: Earth's whales, which had been rendered extinct. Luckily for humanity, the Enterprise crew managed to travel back in time to 1986 San Francisco and rescue two humpbacks. The crew brought the whales back to 2286 to communicate with the probe and stop the destruction.

4. USS Enterprise, multiple versions

USS Enterprise star trek

There are so many versions of the USS Enterprise that we decided to put them together into one slide, highlighting some of the unique features of notable versions. The NCC-1701-E ("Star Trek: The Next Generation" movies) had quantum torpedoes and, unlike some of its predecessors, could actually take on a Borg cube. The earlier ship NCC-1701-D ("Star Trek: The Next Generation") had more than 1,000 crewmembers on board and was supremely fast, moving at up to Warp 9 with ease. The NCC-1701 is a bit different in "The Original Series" (1966-68) than in the alternate timeline of the recent movies (2009-present). The movie version can operate underwater, but the original series version took out some nasty Klingons with the self-destruct sequence during "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock" (1984). We also can't forget to mention the NX-01 ("Star Trek: Enterprise," 2001-05), the first Enterprise that could achieve Warp 5, letting its crew explore beyond just nearby star systems. [ Abandon Ship! 'Star Trek' Loves to Destroy the Enterprise ]

5. Narada ("Star Trek," 2009)

Narada

This is a simply terrifying Romulan ship, because its massive size dwarfs anything that the United Federation of Planets can throw against it. The ship also launched a whole alternate reality for the "Star Trek" universe when, after being pulled into a black hole in the year 2387, it emerged 150 years in the past and destroyed the USS Kelvin, the birthplace of Capt. James T. Kirk. The Narada then drilled a hole in the planet Vulcan and obliterated that planet, again greatly altering the timeline of "Star Trek." Fortunately, the Narada was eventually obliterated by "red matter," a substance that created a singularity, or black hole , that tore the ship apart.

6. Krenim weapon ship ("Star Trek: Voyager," 1995-2001)

Krenim weapon ship

The Krenim Imperium created a weapon ship that could literally erase species from existence due to its ability to manipulate time. The process first went well for the Krenim, as they obliterated another species, called the Zahl. But when another species, called the Garenor, came under attack, the USS Voyager created temporal shields that disrupted the Krenim weapon. The shields created a timeline in which the Krenim themselves didn't exist. The Krenim tried to attack Voyager, but the ship escaped at warp speed because it was faster. Oops.

7. USS Voyager ("Star Trek: Voyager," 1995-2001)

USS Voyager

This ship is notable not only for exploring the poorly understood Delta Quadrant of the galaxy in "Star Trek," but also for using some creative techniques to shorten a 75-year voyage home. (That happened due to a displacement wave that carried the USS Voyager there; this wave was created by a being called the Caretaker, which had a pretty selfish agenda that we won't get into here.) While the Voyager used help from several species to get back home, perhaps the most notable step was inserting Borg technology into their engine. The crew stole a transwarp coil from a Borg sphere that shortened their journey by several years, until the sphere gave out. [ How 'Star Trek' Technology Works (Infographic) ]

8. Klingon Bird-of-Prey, multiple versions

Klingon Bird-of-Prey

One of the Bird-of-Prey's greatest abilities was cloaking . This is used to delightful effect several times in some of the early "Star Trek" movies (1982-84), as both the Enterprise and the Klingons were trying to gain control of the Genesis device, which promised to render inhabitable planets into lush worlds in just a short time. Unfortunately, the Klingon technology had a flaw; you could still "see" the ship because the cloaking technology distorted the light of stars around it. Once the Enterprise caught on to the trick, they were able to fire on the ship successfully.

9. Romulan warbird, D'deridex class ("Star Trek: The Next Generation," 1987-1994)

Romulan warbird

This powerful ship also uses cloaking to great effect, as the USS Enterprise (NCC 1701-D) discovered when the Romulans suddenly uncloaked near the Federation ship. It was the first time Romulans had come out of isolation in 53 years. This cool ship is powered by what the show calls a forced quantum singularity, and naturally the vessel has a number of weapons, too — torpedoes, beams and pulses. However, the singularity came with some drawbacks, including limiting the ship's top speed to less than that of the USS Enterprise.

10. Deep Space 9 ("Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," 1993-1999)

Deep Space 9

While the United Federation of Planets inherited this space station from the Cardassians, the crew quickly adapted its use to help Starfleet. The first episode sees the crew manage to warp nearby space to quickly bring Deep Space 9 closer to a wormhole; the wormhole eventually had strategic importance as it allowed ships to travel quickly to the space station, increasing trade. While the original space station was poorly armed, a retrofit equipped it with 5,000 photon torpedoes. [ 7 Awesome Sci-Fi Space Stations from TV and Film ]

Share the Universe!

For those who consider themselves as die-hard fans of the popular sci-fi Star Trek universe, you may already know that Star Trek’s 24 th century has some astounding array of Starfleet ships that we can stare at with admiration. Star Trek has had strong starships designs since the very beginning. Let’s dig a bit deeper to know more.

The history of Star Trek dates back to 1966-1967 with The Original Series Season 1. All this began when a writer and former Air Force pilot, Gene Roddenberry , wanted to make a science fiction TV show that featured characters that show humanity at its best.

Since then, there has been no looking back as Star Trek has become one of the most popular sci-fi television shows of all time. While it has been entertaining its audience for decades and is globally known for its genre of science fiction, it’s also known for it’s the great space battles with different alien species.

Over the years, the show came up with dozens of iconic starship designs, many of which are even known to people who don’t follow Star Trek. The idea behind the creation of these ships was to represent the diversity of various races, cultures, and factions. So, whether it’s the TOS ( The Original Series ), Star Trek: The Next Generation (TNG) , Deep Space Nine (DS9), Voyager, or Picard , the show has always lived up to the expectation of producing some vast fleets that demonstrated the abilities at their best.

If you have to rank these astonishing ships, what do you think? Which are the most powerful ships of all? Not sure about the answer? No problem, here we are, revealing a list of 30 most powerful Star Trek ship names today.

From TOS to Picard, we’ve covered and presented some of the powerful Star Trek ships . Their rankings are based on specifications, including speed, size, and power. So, are you ready and excited to know their names? Let’s begin!

See awesome great details in this book Ships of the Line on amazon.

List of Powerful Star Trek Ship Names Revealed

30. ss botany bay.

SS Botany Bay

Built in the late 20 th century by the United States of America, this DY-100-class sleeper ship played a great role in helping Khan Noonien Singh and his group to escape Earth after being defeated at Eugenics Wars . You can explore the nuclear power of this ship and know more about it by watching the prime timeline of Star Trek – TOS.

29. Phoenix

Phoenix, an Earth spaceship, was constructed during the mid-21 st century. The interesting fact about this ship is that it used to be a nuclear missile. Yes, Lily Sloane and Zefram Cochrane later converted this missile into a prototype spaceship. Isn’t it amazing? That’s not it; it is also known to be the first human-made spacecraft launched from Earth to travel faster than the speed of light by using warp-drive technology.

28. Friendship 1

You will come across this Star Trek ship name in a Star Trek: Voyager episode. Launched in 2067 by the United Earth Space Probe Agency, four years after the Phoenix’s game-changing flight, this deep space probe came to find other species. The Friendship 1 ship’s exquisite feature is that it contained a lot of scientific, technological, and cultural information that helped to seek out new worlds and new civilizations.

27. USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-J)

You can get a glimpse of this starship in the “Azati Prime” – The Star Trek: Enterprise episode. It bags one of the top spots in the list as it boasts some of the advanced technologies. However, it is not that popular due to two reasons – one, it just has a brief glimpse, and second, a time-traveling Captain said that the Enterprise-J exists in a possible future timeline.

26. Galileo (NCC-1701-7)

Assigned to the USS Enterprise in the 2260s, Galileo was a Class F shuttlecraft and bore the name of the great astronomer and mathematician of all time. They first used a telescope – Galileo Galilei. However, this craft was lost near Taurus II in 2267, at the time of the Murasaki Effect investigation. It was then replaced with the same numbered craft that was dubbed as the ‘Galileo II.’

25. USS Raven (NAR-32450)

This Federation exploration vessel was the home and the workplace of Magnus and Erin Hansen, the Borg-studying scientists. Check out its remains in the Star Trek: Voyager episode, “The Raven.”

24. Deep Space Nine

Deep Space 9 - space station

While this isn’t technically a ship, its a space station, we though it was important to include. There are two sides to this. On one side, it is simply an old Cardassian mining station for the same-titled TV series. While on the other hand, the same mining station is modified and reconstructed into a battle station with 5,000 photon torpedoes in Deep Space Nine – Season 4 of Star Trek.

23. USS Defiant (NX-74205)

Built for Borg battles, this amazing Federation craft was armed with a cloaking device that was lent from the Romulan Star Empire. It is known to be one of the successful warships that you can see for yourself in Star Trek: Deep Space Nin e as well as Star Trek: First Contact . Also know for it’s “mining” capabilities in games.

22. La Sirena

Memory Alpha states that this newcomer Star Trek ship is a Kaplan F17 Speed Freighter, a class of civilian ships equipped with phasers and shields but a whole lot of hologram capacities. Not to forget, it is the only entry from Star Trek: Picard.

21. USS Franklin (NX-326)

This ship is small, but at the same time, tough, just like other Freedom-class starships. You can see this 22 nd -century ship in the Kelvin timeline of Star Trek: Beyond, seat belts. It is equipped with stealth technology, cannons, and torpedoes, and its warp four power was used to get to the Starbase Yorktown from the planet, Altamid .

20. Enterprise (NX-01)

In the 22nd century of Star Trek: Enterprise , you can see how this starship has the potential to carry a huge crew of almost 100 people. It is remembered as a victory of Zefram Cochrane’s theories of space travel.

19. Sh’Raan

Even though the Vulcans are known better than combat ships for logic, the pre-Federation years have seen Spock’s forerunners ready to throw down in Sh’Raan – the Star Trek: Enterprise -era starship that was capable of Warp 7 power.

18. USS Shenzhou (NCC-1227)

This Walker-class Federation USS starship was introduced in the 23 rd century, and you can see it in Star Trek: Discovery. It had everything, including phasers, cannons, and torpedoes, but unfortunately, it got smashed in the Battle of the Binary Stars that occurred in 2256.

17. Sarcophagus

Bigger than the Shenzhou, Klingon starship of the 23rd-century can be witnessed in the Star Trek: Discovery pilot. One interesting feature of the Sarcophagus is that its armor contains the remains of Klingon warriors in the form of a patchwork of caskets.

16. Jem’Hadar Warship

Simply put, it’s all interconnected when we talk about this warship. The story of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine is incomplete without the Dominion, and the story of Dominion is incomplete without the Jem’Hadar warship, i.e., its military division.

15. USS Prometheus (NCC-71201)

This Nebula-class Federation USS starship is in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine . It was introduced as a floating science trial. It not only gets the job done but is also famous for its magnificent goal of reigniting a dead sun.

14. USS Excelsior (NX-2000)

It is featured in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country as the first Federation starship having trans-warp drive. This 23rd-century ship was operated by Starfleet and served Captain Hikaru Sulu , who commanded the Excelsior from 2290 to at least 2320.

13. D7-class Battle Cruiser

This Klingon starship is considered the largest of its era as it was 748 feet long and had 430 crew members. Although many other cooler introductions came along in the 24 th century, this starship still holds a higher rank. It is also termed as ‘ the pinnacle of combat warships in the 23rd century ’ as per StarTrek.com.

12. Scimitar

This Reman-made ship boasts about a lot of things. Featuring in Star Trek: Nemesis , it is loaded with photon-torpedo bays and disruptor banks. Additionally, Scimitar can convert itself into a Thalaron weapon. It is similar to a nuclear weapon but has far more destructive attributes than the latter.

11. Vor’Cha-class Attack Cruiser

This was yet another heavily armed Klingon starship used during the middle and later part of the 24 th century. It was almost as long as a Galaxy-class Federation craft and was similarly used as the backbone of the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance fleet in the mirror universe.

10. USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-A)

Have you seen the original iconic Enterprise? USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-A) is a Constitution-class starship that is essentially a replica of it. It was first featured in the prime timeline of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home . Additionally, it also appears in the Kelvin timeline of the J.J. Abrams-era Star Trek films.

9. USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-B)

USS Enterprise-B is a polished version of the prime timeline’s Constitution-class Enterprise. This Excelsior-class Federation starship was introduced in the 23rd century and can be seen in Star Trek Generations .

8. USS Enterprise (NCC-1701), Prime Timeline

The USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) was a 23rd century Federation Constitution-class starship launched in 2258. Officially Federation was a flagship, this starship was operated by Starfleet. Unfortunately, it was destroyed during the planet Altamid battle in 2263.

7. USS Enterprise (NCC-1701), Kelvin Timeline

This starship was introduced in the 23rd century, so it has the potential of more than warp 8. In fact, it became the first Federation starship to start a five-year mission under the command of Captain James T. Kirk . It is said to be more than double the size of the Prime Timeline’s Enterprise.

6. Romulan Warbird

Romulan Warbird

Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the crew were awestruck by this Romulan Warbird for obvious reasons in Star Trek: The Next Generation . According to StarTrek.com, it is considered to be the largest and the most powerful Romulan spacecraft.

5. Negh’Var Warship

Negh’Var Warship was the largest class of starship, running more than 2,250 massive feet long. This powerful starship was operated as the emperor’s flagship in the Klingon Empire during the late 24 th century.

4. USS Vengeance

USS Vengeance

Designed and developed by Khan Noonien Singh and Section 31, Star Trek: Into Darkness reveals how scary this 23rd-century starship is. From Star Trek’s Kelvin timeline, this ship was specifically created for combat and was commissioned in 2259. It has very assassin type feel.

3. The Whale Probe

You cannot stop boasting about the exquisite features of this starship – the Whale Probe. Featured in the Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home , defeating it is out of the question as it is a massive, power-sucking, starship-disabling, and ocean-vaporizing craft that visited Earth in 2286 to contact members of the humpback whale species.

2. Xindi Probe

Xindi Probe

We can define this starship as a pure beam of destructive force. Seen in Star Trek: Enterprise, this Xindi Probe not only attacked Earth in the 22nd century but also successfully killed more than 7 million people from Florida to Venezuela leaving complete destruction in it’s wake.

Nomad starship was designed by Dr. Jackson Roykirk and served in the first part of the 21st century. It was created with two goals: to create a ship that could function as an accurate thinking machine while using logic and find new lifeforms in interstellar space. This powerful starship had the potential to clear out at least 4 billion people from four different planets. You can see how Captain Kirk and his team face it in the Star Trek TOS episode, The Changeling.

Wrapping It Up

See awesome great details in this book Ships of the Line on amazon . There are more powerful Star Trek ships in addition to this list. The Doomsday Machine, the Krenim Temporal Weapon Ship , the Species 8472 bioship , the Narada , the Borg Cube , and V’Ger are undoubtedly powerful Star Trek ships featured in different timelines. The high-tech development and their powerful specifications have made them the most powerful ships of the Star Trek era.

Star Trek: The 20 Most Powerful Ships In The Galaxy, Ranked

There are tons of ships in the Star Trek Universe, but which ones are the most powerful ones to fly among the stars?

There are many reasons that fans keep coming back to Star Trek . For some people, it’s the great characters; compelling figures like Kirk and Picard show us what the best of humanity can be and serve as truly inspirational figures. For other fans, it’s all about the complex stories. Star Trek has spent decades using sci-fi as a kind of lens to help us exam big topics such as racism and nationalism. The fun never ends when an episode ends because fans have a ton of things to discuss and debate among themselves. However, there are some fans that are all about the starships that populate the franchise. The original Enterprise , for instance, is a thing of beauty: we could hardly fault fans that tuned in every week simply to see this sleek ship boldly go where no man had gone before.

In fact, fans love these ships so much that debates sometimes get pretty intense. What’s the subject of debate? Simple: fans try to determine what the most powerful ships in the franchise are, and with a show that regularly involves time travelers, dimensional visitors, and ancient alien races, it can be tough to figure this out. How can this debate be settled? Well, it’s tough to get hardcore fans to agree to much of anything. But we’re throwing our hats in the ring with our definitive guide to powerful ships in Trek . Ready to end the nerd debates once and for all? Keep reading to discover which ships in the Star Trek Universe are the most powerful.

Arguably, the most powerful threat Kirk ever faced (aside from a thing that may or may not have been God) was V’Ger. Once upon a time, this was the humble Voyager space probe. However, a planet full of machines (which some fans speculate may have been a Borg planet) made V’Ger into something mighty.

In fact, we never see the outer limits of this thing’s power. We know it can vaporize ships at will, and it’s also capable of creating perfect copies of Kirk’s crew. And it seems highly likely that if Kirk and Spock hadn’t managed to help it evolve, this thing could have wiped out all life on Earth!

19 BORG CUBE

Over the years, we’ve seen many different variants of Borg vessels. However, the most iconic and powerful of these vessels remains the Borg Cube. What makes this ship so dangerous? It’s the perfect combination of power and adaptability that makes them feared throughout the galaxy.

The Borg Cube’s power is undeniable -- a single ship wiped out 39 Starfleet vessels at Wolf 359 without breaking a sweat. And their ability to adapt to any form of attack means that even when someone does create an innovative solution, it won’t work for long. Is it too much to hope we might see these foes again in a future movie or TV show?

18 ENTERPRISE-J

For some of the ships on this list, we don’t have much information. Nonetheless, we can determine that the ship is packing a lot of power, and that’s the case with this big hitter from the far future: the Enterprise-J .

This is a ship far into the future of the Trek timeline. Captain Archer is transported to this ship briefly by a Temporal Agent. Since we know how advanced ships like the Enterprise-D and Enterprise-E are, we can only assume that this iteration of the famous vessel is packing a lot of power. Here’s hoping we see more of it in action some day!

17 WHALE PROBE

On a list of “most powerful” ships, there is an obvious question to ask: how do you define powerful? It’s not always a matter of a strong hull or scary phasers. Sometimes, what makes a ship powerful is that, as nearly as anyone can tell, is that it cannot truly be stopped!

That’s the case with the alien probe ship in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (also known as “the one with the whales”). This ship was not malicious, but its sheer proximity to Earth threatened all life on the planet. And seemingly the only way to stop it was to go back in time and bring back the one thing it wanted: whales!

Part of what makes Star Trek: The Next Generation so cool is that it helped to redefine what we considered life. For instance, one episode introduced us to Tin Man (more properly known as Gomtuu). And this creature blurred the line between “ship” and “life form.”

At first, this ship just seems big and mysterious. However, when it wants to, it’s capable of destroying powerful Romulan warbirds with a single thought. While we never see the upper range of this strange ship’s powers, it seems like it could be a major threat to the galaxy if it so chose to be.

15 THE DOOMSDAY MACHINE

We don’t see too many ships on this list from Captain Kirk’s era. That makes sense, after all: the ships only got bigger and stronger after The Original Series was over. However, one ship definitely makes the list: the so-called “Doomsday Machine.”

This ship kept things nice and simple. It destroys planets and uses them as fuel for its journey through space. And for any ships that get in the way? They become just another cosmic snack! It took the self detonation of a starship’s warp engines to finally stop this menace; otherwise, it may have devoured the galaxy!

14 VOTH CITY SHIP

Is it a ship? Is it a planet? Well... why not both? The next ship on our list is the Voth City Ship. As the name implies, though, this is far more than just another vessel. Instead, this is a ship large and powerful enough to house an entire civilization!

We don’t see this ship do anything crazy with phasers or photon torpedoes. However, it is powerful and advanced enough to instantly cut off Voyager’s communications and even cut its main power. Plus, the sheer size of this ship is amazing: Voyager looks like an ant compared to this giant vessel.

In some ways, time-traveling ships have the “cheat codes” for inclusion on this list. After all, your most modest modern automobile would seem like a powerhouse to someone living a hundred years ago. And that’s why ships like The Aeon, hailing from the 29th century, seem so powerful!

This ship’s conventional weapons are not necessarily that impressive. However, the sheer fact that it is a time vessel makes it dangerously powerful. Going back to the right place at the right time (so to speak) would allow the pilot to completely alter all of reality in order to benefit their own future selves.

In many ways, The Defiant was Star Trek ’s version of the Millennium Falcon. In fact, the Falcon’s description fits this other ship nicely: “she may not look like much, but she’s got it where it counts.” And many of this ship’s best assets are hidden away.

For instance, it has special ablative armor to help it last longer in combat. And its phaser cannons, combined with speed and maneuverability, help it to take on both big ships and smaller fighters. And it is the only Starfleet vessel allowed to rock a cloaking device, making it a supreme “hit and run” threat to the Dominion and other enemies.

11 FUTURE ENTERPRISE-D

Fans of Star Trek: The Next Generation were likely looking for the Enterprise-D on this list. Well, it’s here, but not quite as you expected it: we’re giving the nod to the future ship as seen in the episode "All Good Things". And while we only have hints as to its power, they are very strong hints.

The ship has a third nacelle, possible indicating how powerful the engines are (remember, this baby can somehow go past warp 10). And we see the ship cut right through a powerful Klingon vessel with a single phaser beam -- it seems like Admiral Riker spent his twilight years turning this thing into a powerhouse.

In the Star Trek reboot movies, everything is bigger and tougher than in The Original Series . The Enterprise itself is huge (its size rivals the Enterprise-D ), so the threats had to get even scarier. The first big threat our rebooted heroes face is the Narada, also known as “Nero’s really big ship.”

From various scenes (including deleted scenes), we see that this ship is strong enough to take on fleets of Starfleet ships as well as a fleet of Klingon ships, and the quasi-canonical Star Trek comics established that this giant vessel had some scary future tech, including Borg weaponry! In the hands of someone like Nero, this was a huge threat to galactic peace.

For better or for worse, Star Trek: Nemesis did its best to channel Wrath of Khan . That meant having a cool ship for the Enterprise-E to go to- to-toe with. The ship we got was quite impressive: the Scimitar, a Reman ship design used by everyone’s favorite evil Picard clone Shinzon.

This ship was absolutely massive. Its raw firepower and sturdy hull was made to fight off Federation and Romulan ships alike, and that’s exactly what it did. Furthermore, the ship had a special biogenic pulse weapon that was capable of destroying entire planets’ populations in a quick and efficient fashion.

8 BREEN WARSHIPS

Some of the ships on this list are more like one-trick ponies. However, that doesn’t matter much when the trick is really good! And that’s exactly what the Federation, Klingons, and Romulans discovered when they faced the Breen warships in combat for the first time.

The main claim to fame for the Breen is that their ships have special energy dissipators. This means that with a single shot, they can disable a ship’s shields, weapons, and engines. Only Klingon ships were unaffected, and this eventually let the Federation figure out a workaround. Until then, though, the Breen were basically unstoppable!

7 SPECIES 8472

In some cases, we mostly understand how powerful a ship is when we see it go head to head with other powerful ships. That’s the case with the ships of Species 8472 -- they may look unimpressive at first glance. However, they were able to present one of the only real threats to the Borg!

These ships are fully organic and were able to fight off both Borg assimilation and the Borg’s ability to adapt. The result? These ships can destroy a Borg cube in under a minute. Considering that cubes completely completely wreck entire fleets, this accomplishment speaks for itself.

6 KRENIM TEMPORAL WEAPON

Many of the ships on this list weren’t necessarily designed for battle or to be used as weapons. Nonetheless, they have enough power (along with technical bells and whistles) to pose a major threat. This next ship, though, is pure weapon: in fact, it’s the Krenim Temporal Weapon!

This ship has enough conventional weapons to fight off small fleets of attackers. However, its primary purpose is to make adjustments to the timeline. This was used to deadly effect, and the ship helped to wipe several civilizations from the galaxy completely! If Captain Janeway wasn’t able to destroy this ship, it may have eventually destroyed the Federation.

When you’re thinking about powerful Federation ships, Voyager is probably not the first ship you imagine. After all, it’s not the biggest, nor the fastest. And it doesn’t have the most power. Nonetheless, we simply cannot ignore its track record.

This ship and her crew survived for seven years in the Delta Quadrant without any kind of real assistance from Starfleet. They survived encounters with primitive races like the Kazon as well as heavy hitters like the Borg and Species 8472. In fact, Voyager’s triumphs over the Borg mean that this ship on its own was able to do more than a fleet of Starfleet ships could against this powerful enemy.

4 RELATIVITY

The Relativity is a close cousin to another ship on this list: The Aeon. Both ships hail from the 29th century, which is basically half a millennium into the future from the time of Captain Janeway and like the smaller Aeon, The Relativity is a timeship.

This ship is presumably packing some serious conventional weaponry. However, its main weapon is its ability to beam people to and from basically any moment in temporal history. In the right hands, this is a powerful tool for scientific discovery. In the wrong hands, though, it’s a completely ominous weapon that could alter galactic history.

3 PROMETHEUS

For the most part, Starfleet isn’t known for its combat ships. Sure, they have powerful vessels that can throw down, but most of them are designed to explore first and shoot later. That isn’t the case for the next ship on our list, though: the Prometheus.

This top-secret ship is stronger and faster than most Starfleet ships. However, its real strength comes from two factors: its ability to separate into three parts (the “multi-vector assault mode”) and its high degree of automation. This means that a relatively small crew can take on just about any threat to the Federation, all without breaking a sweat.

2 VENGEANCE

There are many ships that are on this list for subtle reasons: they have special abilities and tricks up their sleeves to help them stand out from the pack. That’s not the case with the USS Vengeance, though -- this ship is simply pure power!

It was built in secret by Admiral Marcus, who himself was involved in Section 31. This secret division had the right to sanction any enemies of the Federation, and the Vengeance has enough firepower and shielding to make good on that threat. Fortunately, the Enterprise crew was able to defeat the giant ship through some creative strategies. And bombs. Lots of bombs.

1 SWARM SHIPS

Is bigger always better? Not really: it depends on how you use it! Get your mind out of the gutter, cadet, as we are still talking about ships in Star Trek . And as the swarm of enemy ships in Star Trek Beyond shows us, even a tiny vessel is capable of posing an enormous threat.

It was this same swarm of ships that destroyed the Enterprise ; Kirk’s mighty vessel never stood a chance. And these tiny ships very nearly destroyed the massive starbase Yorktown as well. It’s good for the galaxy that Captain Kirk found their one weakness: The Beastie Boys.

Star Trek: The Official Starships Collection

  • View history

Star Trek: The Official Starships Collection was a British magazine / display model collectible partwork publication and product line that was published by Eaglemoss Collections under its Hero Collector imprint and overall supervision of Project Manager Ben Robinson . Authorized and licensed by Paramount Consumer Products , it had been available in a substantial number of countries worldwide.

Each fortnightly issue included a hand-painted [1] ABS and die-cast metal scaled replica of a starship from the Star Trek universe. Notably, an unparalleled variety of ship designs have been produced as display models for this line, many for the first time, beyond the scope of all other mass-production manufacturers. Eaglemoss' Star Trek starship model line had become by far the largest starship model line(s) of any entertainment media franchise ever released by a single company – especially when taking the near-identically executed follow-up Discovery , Online , Universe , and Lower Decks spin-off/sister collections into account as well. Robinson himself has later intimated that a Star Trek starship model collection of this scope is highly unlikely to be surpassed, or even emulated, anytime soon, " I think it’s pretty clear that there are lots of ships wh [ich] ere we did that were really obscure, that nobody’s going to make again. " [91]

Robinson and his team utilized original CGI studio models for reference whenever they are available. [2] A Star Trek Fact Files veteran, reference book author, and custodian of his own Star Trek production art archive, Robinson oversees the preparation of the magazines and the selection, commissioning, and decoration of the starship miniatures. John Ainsworth, Hero Collector's Development Manager, assumed many of Robinson's roles for the production of the miniatures after the first 120 issues.

Robinson has also acted as a co-author and co-editor of the magazine content, which consists of a mix of "in-universe" articles and real world production POV articles dealing with the design and usage of the models in question [3] , alongside Marcus Riley (another former member of the Fact Files team) and Mark Wright , and continued to contribute starship articles, [92] much of which eventually finding its way into the company's lines of spin-off reference book series.

Many production-used 3D studio models have been adapted for use as miniatures. Alongside studio assets, starship designers including Rob Bonchune , Adam Buckner , David Carson , Dan Curry , Daren Dochterman , Doug Drexler , Pierre Drolet , John Eaves , Sean Hargreaves , Alex Jaeger , Matt Jefferies , Greg Jein , Joe Jennings , Koji Kuramura , "Mojo" Lebowitz , Jim Martin , Brandon MacDougall , Ed Miarecki , Michael Okuda , Andrew Probert , Mark Rademaker , Alain Rivard , Nilo Rodis-Jamero , Rick Sternbach , Sean Tourangeau , and "Meni" Tsirbas have built or assisted in the construction of these models, provided the original CG files, or have shared background material about their designs. [4] A number of original models have also been provided by other former production staffers and producers, including David Lombardi and Dave Rossi .

Where existing models were unavailable, unusable, or deemed unsuitable for use, many models had been commissioned by the company and wholly recreated by independent contractors including Bonchune [5] , Lebowitz, Fabio Passaro 's Meshweaver Productions [6] , and Ed Giddings of Cgreactor [7] .

The models were modified, retexturized, and converted into CAD files by these contractors before CAD tooling masters were created at the Holinail Group, [93] Eaglemoss' manufacturing partner in Dongguan, China. 2D renders were often used for the publication's illustrations and newly-created annotated schematics by its art editors in the UK.

Each accompanying twenty-page magazine (measuring 219 × 284 mm, except as noted) featured comprehensive articles about the design, filming, and on-screen appearances of the original studio model(s). Alongside the use of archival material, new interviews were conducted with a number of Star Trek cast members and production staff for the publication. Reference photographs of studio models, production stills, and concept art reproductions are also used extensively. Detailed "in-universe" information about the vessel's history, crew, weapons, and technology was explored within starship profiles and in other feature articles.

Gift premiums and magazine online versions [8] of many issues were also made available to subscribers.

Following the August 2020 conclusion of the Standard Edition in the UK, new releases for the Bonus, Special, XL, shuttlecraft set, and resin dedication plaque sub-collections continued to be produced for the line, as were magazine binders and hardcover reference books. A number of products have also been re-released in new packaging for direct sale through the UK webshop.

Though the "Standard Edition" had already completed its run by then, some of the other sub-collections of the Collection were still releasing issues when on 12 July 2022 all Eaglemoss product lines came to a sudden and unexpected end, as the company was forced to cease its business activities under the UK Insolvency Act – meaning a company is no longer able to pay off its debts. [94] Though having achieved a considerable portion of its goal, i.e. to have all pre- Kurtzman-era Star Trek ships released in one format or another in the Collection , the bankruptcy of Eaglemoss (which became effective on 5 August 2022 , as confirmed by Robinson [95] ) meant that the Collection fell short of its lofty goal in the end – albeit not by much.

In 2023, the company (new) Master Replicas had purchased the rights to Eaglemoss's remaining stock, and started to re-issue various ships ( and books) from the entire line from March onward, which also included a variety of issues Eaglemoss itself had not yet been able to release themselves because of its 5 August 2022 bankruptcy. Standard Edition issues (UK) [ ]

Official Starships Collection Standard Editions logo

Standard Edition models commonly measure between four and six inches long and were released fortnightly. A number of these issues were later reissued in new packaging, and can be viewed below under the Collector's Editions section of Repacks.

In the UK, the Standard Edition release run concluded with issue 180 in August 2020, just two weeks shy of a full eight-year run. The cessation of the Standard Edition release automatically entailed the termination of the subscription service for those eligible customers who had opted to take out one. [9] Nonetheless, the 2020 cessation did not spell out the end of the Collection , as additional issues continued to be regularly released afterwards in the various sub-collections, mentioned hereafter, but these had to be ordered separately and individually at the company's webstores – like it always had needed to be, since none of the sub-collections were ever conceived as part of the subscription setup.

Bonus Edition issues [ ]

Official Starships Collection Bonus Editions logo

Bonus Edition issues commonly feature registry variants, concept designs, model ships, ships seen only on background displays, and other designs originating from comics , novels , Star Trek Online , and Ships of the Line calendars , and these often as "extended/soft canon " referred to starships were initially released in similar vein as the regular Standard Edition. The accompanying magazine is in contents similar to the Standard Edition magazines. The early SS Yorktown (first "convention exclusive") and Future USS Enterprise -D (subscription gift item) releases though, were issued in the "Standard Edition" packaging without magazines. Like the Special Editions, a number have been created in close consultation with the production artists who conceived the ships' original designs.

Those Bonus Editions models selected for convention purposes, were repackaged in redesigned "display boxes" like the one pictured on the right, with the same magazines that came with the Standard Edition, but downsized to 145 × 183 mm in order to fit within the box. Introduced in 2018 for the Collector's Edition , this packaging format became the norm for the Bonus Edition after the cessation of the regular Standard Edition two years later. No binder has been provided for the deviant magazine format by the company while it was in business. This Bonus/Collector's Edition format also became the regular format of choice for the later Star Trek Online Starships Collection spin-off publication, and where a binder for the deviant magazine format was made available.

Some vessels bear Terran Empire liveries and parts (as seen in the mirror universe ), while the Federation fleet seen in the Kelvin Timeline was added to the Bonus Edition releases in 2021, following later adjustments to licensing with CBS. [40]

It was the Bonus Edition that became the replacement format for the (mostly "canon") regular Standard Edition and was meant to yet release "some of the big deal missing ships we haven't got to" left over from that edition, [97] after it had concluded its run in the UK during 2020. The models in the Standard Edition size range (about four to six inches long), commonly debuted at Eaglemoss' Hero Collector convention booths – explaining the choice for the display box packaging – , and became afterwards available as "webshop exclusives". The August 2022 Eaglemoss bankruptcy had cut the intended release run short though.

Unrealized considered Bonus Edition issues [ ]

These concerned issues that were considered, but had not entered the asset production stage yet.

Special Edition issues [ ]

Eaglemoss received licensing to release starships from Star Trek 's alternate reality (officially known as the Kelvin Timeline since 2016) as Special Editions, alongside unique starships and space stations from Star Trek 's prime reality .

Made of the same materials as the Standard Editions, most Special Edition models are about six to eight inches long, and subscribers receive a small discount when purchasing them. The seventeenth release featured a battery-powered internal LED light.

These larger releases are retailed by the company's webshops and a number of other retailers.

XL Edition issues [ ]

Eaglemoss Star Trek Starships XL Edition logo

A number of "significant" starships from the Star Trek universe have also been produced in a larger size than the Standard, Bonus, and most Special Editions. Released as XL Editions, these models generally measure between eight-and-a-half and twelve inches long, and are available from company webshops and a variety of other retailers.

Following the successful roll-out of the first three of these "Oversized" (or "Large Scale") issues to subscribers and retail, this sub-line was also marketed as the " Star Trek Starships XL Edition " and was launched as a separate subscription partwork on Eaglemoss' US website. [98] The company has plans for about thirty XL issues in total, as of September 2020. [99]

Beginning with XL Edition 22, a slightly smaller 20-page magazine (measuring 227 × 155 mm) is enclosed with each XL Edition, which has been designed to be stored (and retailed) within the box beneath the model. This format was also used for the magazines enclosed with the repackaged Best of XL Edition releases outlined below (in Repacks).

Limited Edition Gold XL Exclusives [ ]

Similar to the displayed models seen in the observation lounge of the USS Enterprise -E and commonly debuting as "Exclusives" for conventions, Limited Edition versions of a number of XL USS Enterprise models are also manufactured with 18-carat gold-plated exteriors and are available in limited quantities.

Shuttlecraft issues [ ]

Official Starships Collection Shuttlecraft logo

Shuttlecraft models are smaller than the other releases, are made of metallic resin, include a small standardized stand, and are individually packaged within each four-pack box. Presently, shuttle issues are only available for purchase in four-packs, in all markets. Shuttles may be offered as individual issues and alternate deco (or registry) variants may be manufactured in the future, if further production runs occur. [100]

Four-pack boxes

In January 2015, shuttle issues were previewed to subscribers in Germany. By adding the "Premium" subscription option (for a small monthly fee), subscribers received a new shuttle every twenty issues. The first shuttle reached these subscribers in November 2015 [101] , and only ships from the first two shuttle packs were included in the offer.

An eight-page booklet (measuring 150 × 210 mm, the smallest magazine dimension of all Eaglemoss' Star Trek publications) that contains (exclusively) "in-universe" information accompanies each model. It features master systems display illustrations ( okudagrams ) newly created for each issue by Mike Okuda .

These schematics are also printed onto translucent plastic sheets (measuring 120 × 80 mm) which can be mounted on (included) plastic clip stands.

Rick Sternbach and Tim Earls designed the sheets for the third shuttlecraft four-pack, while Doug Drexler was enlisted to design them for the fifth and sixth sets. Okuda designed the sheets for the seventh set.

Each set includes a fifty-page booklet (measuring 168 × 216 mm) that contains material covering all of the starships in the set, compiled from the previously released individual magazines, as is detailed above. The booklet for both versions of the third set has sixty-five pages to accommodate the content for the extra (fourth) ship. All models are identical to their earlier releases (as Standard or Bonus Editions) and are packaged individually within the box for the set.

Collector's Editions [ ]

Best of STSS USS Enterprise-D packaging

Packaging mockup

Debuting exclusively in North America in February 2018 and marketed as the Best of the Star Trek: The Official Starships Collection for its first three years, Eaglemoss re-released twelve of its most popular Standard Edition issues in new windowbox packaging with attached J-hooks, enabling the boxes to be hung on pegs at retailers. The models within are identical to their earlier releases.

Downscaled to fit into the box beneath the model, a twenty-page booklet accompanies each starship and its stand. Each "collector's guide" (measuring 145 × 183 mm, a smaller format which fits the box packaging) contains the same content as the larger, original full-sized A4 magazine (as is detailed above) but the issue number is not printed on the cover. Later, in 2019, this packaging style (without the J-hook) became used for the cloaked USS Defiant 2500-copy convention exclusive in the US and UK as well.

In 2020, the range was expanded by six ships and its availability in entirety to the UK was announced as a convention exclusive range, [102] (X) though like in the US, unsold copies ended up in the UK webstore as well. From 2021 onward however, after the Standard Edition range was terminated, the Collector's Edition packaging style became the standard for new outings in the Bonus Edition range.

Eleven more ships, USS Titan NCC-80102 (B05), Pralor Warship (B37A), USS Prometheus NX-59650 (25), USS Phoenix NCC-65420 (112), Federation Attack Fighter (68), USS Excelsior NCC-2000 (8), USS Appalachia NCC-52136 (54), UES Warp Delta (82), USS Equinox NCC-72381 (15), SS Emmette (124), and USS Bozeman NCC-1941 (120) were scheduled for a 2021 (re-)release in this format. That intent however, became thwarted by the COVID-19 pandemic which necessitated worldwide lock-downs, meaning the cancellation of every convention as well. The Titan re-release became one of only two realized, but was not able to reach market because of the lock-downs. [94] The other realized planned release concerned the 500-copy Pralor warship model-only convention exclusive. [61]

Collector's XL Editions [ ]

In 2020, the company began to re-release a number of its most popular XL Edition starship models as the Best of the Star Trek: The Official Starships Collection XL Edition , which transitioned to Collector's XL Edition in the following year.

In new "retail-friendly" premium boxes made of thicker cardboard (and the models within held in black foam), lifting the magnetic clasps and opening the gatefold on the box's front allows the model to be displayed (in a windowbox) while still packaged.

A downscaled version of the magazine (measuring 227 × 155 mm) with identical contents to the XL Edition (as is detailed above) is included with each model and is stored (and retailed) within the box behind the ship.

Gift premiums [ ]

Official Starships Collection Gifts logo

Gift premiums (known here as "loyalty gifts") are sent to subscribers and include a binder able to hold sixteen magazines (afterwards becoming the regular, standard binder for sale at the company's webstores), a polyresin USS Enterprise -D dedication plaque, a three-nacelled Future USS Enterprise -D model, and a battery-powered, LED-illuminated PVC Borg Cube. An enamel starship pin was added as a gift in June 2018, which was superseded by a pair of steel bookends in September 2018. [95]

In Japan, early subscribers received a unique, smaller, LED-illuminated PVC Borg Cube after De Agostini , the magazine's local publisher, "declined" to release the UK version of the Borg Cube and manufactured its own. De Agostini also released a key ring as a gift, in lieu of the UK's free magazine binder.

Initially advertised as subscriber "exclusives", the UK version of the Borg cube, the USS Enterprise -D plaque, and the Future USS Enterprise -D model were later retailed to the general public through company webshops. Magazines were not included with these starship models.

Starship dedication plaques [ ]

Official Starships Collection Dedication Plaques logo

Painted, scaled, metallic polyresin starship dedication plaques are made available through company webshops and retail outlets, and were designed by Michael Okuda. In late 2018, the company indicated that a "few more" dedication plaques were being planned.

The first release was initially distributed to subscribers as a gift premium.

Commencing in September 2018, US subscribers who opt for a "Platinum" subscription will receive a plaque every ten issues, for an additional ongoing fee.

Reference books [ ]

Designing Starships series [ ]

In October 2016 , Eaglemoss Publications premiered the first volume of the Star Trek: Designing Starships series, a line of hardcover reference books that are primarily comprised of starship design articles from the Starships Collection partworks' individual magazines, combined with new artwork, charts, and expanded material.

Published under the Hero Collector imprint, second editions of the first three volumes and all subsequent books in the series were released by Eaglemoss in mass-market editions, utilizing Penguin Random House 's Publisher Services division.

Shipyards series [ ]

Star Trek: Shipyards , subtitled The Encyclopedia of Star Trek Ships , is a mass-market hardcover reference book series that presents an "in-universe" chronological history of canon starships, and is published by Eaglemoss Collections through Penguin Random House's Publisher Services division, under its Hero Collector imprint. Starships from the alternate reality ( Kelvin Timeline) and TAS are not covered in this series, and ships seen only on displays will not be incorporated.

Volumes are principally comprised of starship profile articles produced for the Starships Collection partworks, combined with new artwork, charts, and expanded material. The series was characterized by Ben Robinson as an effort to create "an equivalent of Jane's Fighting Ships for Star Trek ". [104] [99]

A Special Edition of the first volume included a model of the USS Enterprise from (Standard Edition) issue 50 of the Starships Collection . [105]

In Japan, the first editions of the first two volumes were published by De Agostini and carried its imprint on the covers. The Books-A-Million Edition of these two books bore variant covers and were exclusively retailed by the American bookshop chain, Books-A-Million. Polish editions of these books were also published by HarperCollins Publishers .

A second edition of the second volume incorporates ships from Star Trek: Lower Decks , Discovery , and Picard .

A "limited edition" three-volume box set included a specially-designed slipcase, a fold-out starship size chart (a 35 × 25-inch poster), and the first, second, and fourth books of the series. [106]

The fifth and sixth volumes explore almost every Borg vessel and starship seen in the Delta Quadrant , and the company has created new CG starship models for many of the VOY ships that were solely created as practical (physical) studio models. [107]

The seventh, eighth, and ninth volumes would have covered major races and ships from the Alpha , Beta , and Gamma Quadrants . The August 2022 bankruptcy of Eaglemoss meant that only the seventh title saw an actual release.

Illustrated Handbook series [ ]

The first volume of the mass-market hardcover Illustrated Handbook reference series comprehensively explores the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D starship and its history, technology, and crew, incorporating updated and expanded content from the Star Trek Fact Files , alongside some new material and artwork. [108]

A Special Edition of the first book includes a starship model (from the first Standard Edition issue of this partwork), and both editions were published by Eaglemoss Collections through Penguin Random House's Publisher Services division under its Hero Collector imprint. [109]

The second volume features the USS Enterprise and USS Enterprise -A , as they were seen in The Original Series , Discovery , and feature films. [110] A model of the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-A (from Standard Edition issue 72) is included with the Special Edition.

A third volume focuses on the USS Voyager and was slated for release in two editions but its Special Edition (with a model of the ship from Standard Edition issue 6) was "postponed indefinitely" before publication.

The fourth volume covers the Deep Space 9 space station , the USS Defiant , and the Danube -class runabouts from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine .

Many fans consider this series to be the contemporary successor to Pocket Books ' acclaimed Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Technical Manual s from the 1990s.

Comic book [ ]

A limited edition of 1,000 copies of IDW 's Star Trek: Year Five Issue 6 comic book featured artwork and photography by Nils Walter Khan on its cover, and showcased the XL Edition model of the USS Enterprise .

The comic book debuted at Eaglemoss/Hero Collector 's New York Comic Con booth in October 2019 , where writer Jody Houser , "showrunners" Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing , and cover artist Khan autographed covers for convention attendees. [111] Additional autographed copies were also retailed at later conventions and through company webshops.

Eaglemoss/Hero Collector also retails the Star Trek Graphic Novel Collection partwork , which comprehensively republishes many of IDW's Star Trek titles and a wide range of comics from other publishers.

Non-regular magazine binders [ ]

Official Starships Collection Binders logo

The gift premium binder, listed above, became the regular, standard Collection magazine binder marketed on the company's webshops. [98] Additional "limited edition" binders with "Federation" and "Alien" starship illustrations on their covers have later been made available at a higher price point to supplement the standard binder design.

Limited edition binders

Originally released as a "limited edition" exclusive in December 2014, a "Federation & Alien" binder featuring a silver foil Star Trek logo (left) was only retailed for a brief period and did not reappear (on the US shop) until 2021. [100] The separate "Federation" (center) and "Alien" (right) binders, the other "limited edition" releases, later became available from company webshops on an ongoing basis.

When the smaller sized 145 × 183 mm magazine format was introduced for the "Collector's," and post-2020 issues of the "Bonus Editions" sub-collections, a new binder capable of holding the smaller-sized magazine format became required. However, this new binder was never marketed by Eaglemoss while it was still in business – though collectors could have made do with the similarly-sized Online Collection binder which had been released. It was only after the 2022 bankruptcy that new remainder stock owner Master Replicas discovered that the new format binder had just entered production for retail dissemination when the bankruptcy occurred. A small stockpile of these binders of about 60 copies was uncovered, and ultimately sold by them in September 2023. [77] [112]

Marketing [ ]

Uk and german test marketing [ ].

UK test issue 1

Originally identified as prospective product line during market research for (predecessor company) GE Fabbri 's short-lived Star Trek: The Figurine Collection , the first five Starships Collection issues were test-marketed at retail in England's south-west region beginning in May 2012 with selected regions in Germany – Star Trek 's biggest market after the US and UK – to follow, and the company's website began to solicit UK and German subscriptions. Due to unexpected heavy demand and the resulting production and distribution challenges, new subscriptions were suspended at the end of July 2012. As commonplace, the test issues were accompanied by local TV ads in the selected UK and German testing regions.

Upon receipt of the first five issues, subscribers were advised that the magazine had been suspended and that confirmation of forthcoming issues from the publisher was pending. Gift premiums were not distributed to subscribers. This type of early "test release" is a common practice for partwork publishers, in order to gauge public interest.

UK and Ireland marketing [ ]

UK launch promo

In September 2012, a Facebook page was established for the magazine and Eaglemoss subsequently announced that a full UK roll-out of the line was slated for February 2013. New subscriptions resumed on 17 September 2012 and the company confirmed that gift premiums and more issues were forthcoming. Residents of the Republic of Ireland were added to the UK subscriber base in early 2013.

At the very inception of the project, a production run of fifty issues was foreseen, [113] but by the time the project was gearing up for its initial run, the company increased that number to seventy issues and displayed a "provisional list" of ships at the Destination Star Trek London convention in October 2012. A large number of additional issues have been identified by company representatives through social media and interview podcasts.

On 9 January 2013, the company announced that the line would be indefinitely placed on hiatus until a new manufacturer was found, following the closure of their contracted production facility by Chinese authorities.

Early starships promo

Starship models produced with the toolings and paint masks from the closed factory subsequently appeared in large-volume online auctions from Hong Kong. The two USS Enterprise -D models were later dubbed " Shadyprise " variants by collectors, due to their somewhat shady origin. Notably, the early Klingon Bird-of-Prey, USS Enterprise -D and Future USS Enterprise -D models feature paintwork that differs markedly from the official releases.

In early April 2013, Eaglemoss sent emails to subscribers stating that the magazine was back in production at a new factory and indicated that shipping would resume in August 2013. This re-launch date was confirmed on the line's newly redesigned website in May 2013 and the first issue was re-released on 21 August 2013.

Standard-sized boxes

The Standard Edition-sized starship models are produced in "box scale", designed to fit within a standardized box size for sale at a common price point. The boxes for almost all of these starships (the Standard, Bonus and Shuttlecraft issues) measure 168 × 127 × 51 mm. Smaller (and taller) boxes (measuring 123 × 101 × 80 mm) were supplied for Standard issues 10, 58, 94, 96, 109, 127, 146, and 180, and Bonus issue 22. A larger box (measuring 176 × 176 × 80 mm) was made for the Bajoran Solar-Sailor and another (measuring 164 × 138 × 86 mm) encompassed the Xindi-Insectoid Warship. The dimensions of the boxes for the Special and XL Edition starship models vary greatly.

In all cases, the model can be easily removed from (and put back into) the box without damaging the packaging or model whatsoever. There are no holes made in the models for the stands.

In the UK and Ireland, COMAG UK distributes subscriptions through the Royal Mail while DPD (UK) and the Royal Mail distribute webshop orders. Most products are also available through specialty shops.

International marketing [ ]

Star Trek Official Starships Collection banners

US shop banners

Following the successful roll-out of the magazine in the UK and Ireland, Eaglemoss launched the magazine in a number of other territories worldwide, beginning in late 2013. English-language magazines distributed outside of the UK are identical to the UK releases. [101]

In Japan, the (numbered) Standard Edition issues are published and distributed by De Agostini and carry its imprint on the covers. The first six issues were retailed in 2012 in a test marketing run, similar to the initial UK five-issue test release. The subsequent regular Japanese release was marketed differently as magazine and model came standard packaged within a gatefold box, reminiscent of, but not entirely similar to, the later Collector's Edition packaging style. Like it became with the Collector's Edition, the Japanese magazine issues were released in a smaller format to fit within the box. As already stated above , the German release of the line became the only other international release that also saw a (five-issue) test run before its full launch.

John Van Citters , the Vice President of CBS Consumer Products ' Product Development division at the time, supervised the production of the partwork for the licensors and formally announced the expansion of the magazine to ninety regular issues at a panel on 2 August 2014 at the Official Star Trek Convention in Las Vegas. [114]

Further extensions were announced on 11 December 2015 (to 110), 4 September 2016 (to 130), 22 September 2017 (to 150), 25 December 2017 (to 160), and 3 August 2019 (to 180).

A small number of models were manufactured with minor painting errors that were corrected during subsequent production runs. Issues affected include 1, 9, 15, 16, and shuttle issue 08.

The Collection was briefly seen in the 2018 " Star Trek " episode of the Netflix documentary series The Toys That Made Us , where it was characterized as an accurately reproduced product line from a latter-day company that is specifically aimed at adult collectors. It also opined that the line is not a toy line nor typical mass-market merchandise, as it caters to a very specific and relatively small niche in the collector market.

In many countries worldwide, products were available at the company's webshops, and through other retailers, where available. In some of the larger sized foreign markets they had also been available by subscription at first. Most products were also retailed by newsagents and booksellers, and by comics, collectibles and gaming shops affiliated with Diamond Comic Distributors . Amazon.com , Anovos , Sideshow Collectibles , ThinkGeek/GameStop , and other retailers marketed a number of releases from this partwork and its Discovery spin-off . Loot Crate also released a small number of models within its Star Trek Mission Crate subscription box line.

Incidentally, the XL, Bonus, and Special editions rarely saw translated magazines, and the German- and Japanese-language regular edition magazines were by the time of the August 2022 Eaglemoss bankruptcy the only two non-English editions left. Over the course of the Collection 's release, most foreign-language magazines later switched over to English-only releases. [102]

When Eaglemoss went bankrupt in 2022, stock held by, or earmarked for, DeAgostini Japan was not part of the bankruptcy settlements and subsequent takeover by Master Replicas contrary to the German-language stock, as it was not owned legally by Eaglemoss but by the Japanese branch of DeAgostini.

In a Q&A session on his Twitter page, project manager Ben Robinson wrote, " It's a question of economics, though. If enough people are buying, we'll keep going. We're already doing more ships than anyone ever imagined. Hurrah! " [103]

The project manager had stated that he considered every Andorian , Borg , Dominion , Kazon , Klingon , Romulan , Suliban , Tellarite , Vidiian , Vulcan , and Xindi ship to be "essential" to the collection, and aspired to produce all of the Federation ships seen on-screen. [104]

In October 2019, the company announced that Standard Edition (numbered) issues would conclude with the publishing of issue 180, and later outlined plans to continue to produce more Standard Edition-sized Bonus ships that would have reached market "roughly every three months", beginning around "the middle" of 2021. [115] Bernd Schneider of Ex Astris Scientia , the noted Star Trek reference website, had assisted CG modeler Fabio Passaro by providing reference material for many of these alien ships and lesser-known "ships of the week", mainly from TNG and VOY. [116] EAS and MA member Jörg Hillebrand also contributed reference material for some of these issues. [117] [118]

More "extended-canon" or "soft-canon" Bonus Editions might had been produced, including newly-created models based on concept designs, and more cloaked ships are under consideration. "Battle-damaged" versions of some starships might had been made as XL Editions, while future starships from the older Star Trek films would likely had been released as Special Editions, due to the added costs of producing all-new CG models and toolings from scratch. A few Star Trek: The Animated Series ships might eventually had reached production, possibly alongside ships from later animated Trek series.

Registry , "cloaked", and gold variants might had been continued for release as convention exclusives but all new classes of starship would remain available to subscribers and retail. Robinson had indicated that the company wanted to ensure that missed con exclusives would "not be too painful" for those who could not attend, while still providing "something special" for collectors who did.

Robinson indicated that he hoped that the producers of Star Trek Beyond would allow Eaglemoss to manufacture a USS Enterprise NCC-1701-A model, something they have declined to sanction in the past due to uncertainty about its future appearance.

Eaglemoss had been hoping to produce the classic starship designs created by Franz Joseph as models, and has indicated that his estate had been engaged in negotiations with CBS.

The company had revealed that the USS Cerritos , USS Titan , and USS Vancouver would be forthcoming models and confirmed that its Star Trek: Lower Decks starships line would debut at retail in January 2022 . Robinson also indicated that the company would manufacture starships from Star Trek: Section 31 and Star Trek: Prodigy . [119] [120] [121] [122]

Star Trek Discovery Official Starships Collection ship promos

In January 2018, Eaglemoss/Hero Collector launched the Star Trek: Discovery The Official Starships Collection partwork, a monthly spin-off publication that features starships from the Star Trek: Discovery series.

The starship models measure from about fifteen to twenty-five centimeters in length, comparable to many of the Special Editions from this collection. Larger "Special Edition" DIS starship models, similar in size to the "XL Edition" models released in this partwork, have also been produced.

As is detailed above, XL Edition models of the USS Enterprise (as it appeared in Discovery ), the USS Shenzhou , and the USS Discovery were also released in this collection, following their release as smaller models in the DIS partwork. A USS Discovery -A refit model is also planned for this line.

In October 2020, the company announced that its forthcoming starship miniatures from DIS (after numbered issue 33), PIC, and SNW would be combined into a new product line, [123] which was subsequently identified as the Star Trek Universe: The Official Starships Collection . (see below)

In March 2021, the company launched the Star Trek: The Next Generation Build The USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D partwork, a new line featuring a seventy centimeter-long electronically-lit model of the USS Enterprise 1701-D.

Subscribers construct the die-cast metal and ABS model over 120 kit "stages", and typically receive four kits (sent together) each month. A magazine containing the relevant assembly instructions, some feature articles, and a TNG episode guide accompanies the model parts.

Art prints and die-cast models of the ship's shuttles (in Standard Edition size, as above) are also produced as Special issues of the partwork. [124]

Star Trek Online Starships Collection [ ]

On 6 June 2020 , the company debuted the Star Trek Online Starships Collection , a new partwork featuring four to six-inch die-cast metal and ABS starships, similar in size to the Standard Edition models from this series.

This collection exclusively presents starships from Star Trek Online , the massively multiplayer online role-playing game .

After launching with ten, the company announced that the series would be extended to twenty issues in July 2020 . On 10 August 2021 , project manager Ben Robinson announced that the line would conclude following the release of the twentieth issue, due to an insufficient response at retail. [125]

Developed from a design originally commissioned for the game, Eaglemoss has previously manufactured two starship miniatures (in two distinct liveries) of the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-F ( β ) as Bonus Editions within the first Starships Collection , as is detailed above.

Each issue includes a (roughly) six to ten inch-long (150 to 250 mm-long, similar in size to Special Editions from this partwork) die-cast metal and ABS scaled starship replica from Star Trek: Picard and/or Star Trek: Strange New Worlds , and the line will later serve as a continuation of the Star Trek: Discovery The Official Starships Collection .

Larger Special Edition models may also be produced for the Universe series, though a number of XL Edition ships from DIS, PIC, and SNW will continue to be released in this partwork.

Promellian Battle Cruiser model in PIC Season 2 trailer…

a A copy of the Promellian Battle Cruiser model (Regular issue 142) was sent by Ben Robinson to Star Trek: Picard ' s Production Designer Dave Blass for a ship in a bottle set decoration that first appeared as a Château Picard fireplace mantel display piece in the Season 2 trailer , [126] like it was in the episode " The Star Gazer ", while making an additional appearance in the episode " Hide and Seek " as part of a childhood memory of Jean-Luc Picard . [127] Designed by series' prop master Jeffrey Lombardi , the 11.5×6×5 inches measuring ship-in-a-bottle model prop turned up later at auction as Lot #178 in Prop Store 's 15-29 November 2022 Star Trek: Picard Seasons 1 & 2 Online Auction , eventually selling on 29 November for US$9,375. [128]

The Eaglemoss retcon Enterprise model in a display case (top)…

b After the above-mentioned canon appearance of the regular issue Promellian Battle Cruiser model in "The Star Gazer", three more Eaglemoss display models from the "Special Edition" side collection also made an appearance in Picard's childhood memories in the "Hide and Seek" episode alongside the Promellian Battle Cruiser model, which made an encore in the episode; The first one concerned the NX-class refit model (issue SP06) – in the process making the hitherto apocryphal design canon as well – whereas the two other ones concerned the Deep Space Station K-7 (issue SP10), and Regula I (issue SP24) models. A fifth additional Eaglemoss model that was featured concerned issue 11 from the XL Edition sub-collection, that of the Discovery retcon- Enterprise which was seen on the top shelf of the same display where the two space station models were also displayed in. Each of the four additional Eaglemoss models were featured non-modified.

Footnotes [ ]

  • ↑ The models were painted freehand and with the use of paint masks (templates), alongside pad and tampo printing processes, while electro-plating is employed for the 18k gold-plated Enterprise -D release. The earliest prototypes are 3D printed in resin and, once approved by Eaglemoss and CBS, were manufactured using a variety of injection, vacuum, and compression molding techniques. [1]
  • ↑ Ben Robinson had previously used live-action production CGI studio models to create illustrations for other licensed Star Trek print publications, in the process becoming, at least where the Star Trek franchise was concerned, a pioneer by doing so. He commissioned Rob Bonchune (and others) to render these models for use in the Star Trek Fact Files and its US magazine derivative . Robinson served as project manager, editor and writer of many issues of those publications (incidentally published by one of Eaglemoss Collections' two original constituent parts, GE Fabbri ), foreshadowing his similar role at the Official Starships Collection . Regarding the availability of production-used digital models, Robinson has stated, " There is an excellent archive of ships from Voyager and Enterprise . Less so with the other shows. " [2] To alleviate this shortage of models, Robinson solicited the input of former Digital Muse Effects Supervisor David Lombardi , who turned out to still have a partial database of digital models that Digital Muse had specifically constructed for Deep Space Nine . [3] [4] Years earlier, Lombardi had constructed a digital model of the Enterprise -E as Digital Muse's solicitation model for possible use in Star Trek: Insurrection , and it was his model that was used for the orthographic views in issues 21 and XL3 of the Collection , alongside the beauty views of the later Star Trek Nemesis version created by Digital Domain . (See: Sovereign -class model )
  • ↑ Ben Robinson stated that he wrote the first magazines of this partwork in their entirety.
  • ↑ Some of the designers' background art and material about starship design is based on archival material, and may have been previously published in the Fact Files and its derivatives.
  • ↑ As identified online, Rob Bonchune has created 3D starship models and/or renders for issues 4, 10, 23, 24, 26-28, 30-32, 34, 37, 38, 40, 41, 48, 50, 55, 57, 60, 63, 65, 67, 71, 88, 93, 94, 98, 99, 102, 115, 117, 134, 154, 155, XL1, XL4, XL8, and Shuttlecraft Set 1. [5]
  • ↑ CG models that Fabio Passaro's Meshweaver Productions has provided for the Collection , as identified online, include issues 12 (not a new build, but a re-rendered version of the Digital Muse model), 14, 20, 47, 54, 56, 61, 64, 73, 75, 79, 80, 85, 86, 91-93, 95, 96, 100, 104, 105, 108, 110, 114, 116, 118, 120, 122, 126, 127, 138, 143, 159, 161, M1, SP3, SP4, SP5, SP7, SP9, SP11, Bonus issues 05, 07, and 11, and Shuttle issues 05, 13, 14, 15 and 16. [6]
  • ↑ Praised by Lebowitz for their high level of detail, Ed Giddings' pre-existing Centaur and Excelsior models, constructed for the canceled 2000 Unseen Frontier reference book project, were deemed as quite suitable for use in the Official Starships Collection , as was his 2010 spin-off build of the refitted Excelsior -class which he had built for Bonchune's USS Enterprise Owners' Workshop Manual reference book. [7] New or replacement CG models that Ed Giddings' Cgreactor has provided for the Collection , as identified online, include issues 8 , 40 , 42 , 46 , 52 , 59, 90, 98 , 103, 123, SP1 , Bonus issues 08 and 19, and XL issue 17.
  • ↑ Magazine PDF versions of most of the main and sub collections can be found at Wikiban.com .
  • ↑ Though some Standard Edition-only subscription services had initially been offered to international customers in those countries that had a dedicated Collection website, most were prematurely terminated due the early closure of these websites , leaving only the UK and north-American subscription services in place in the end. Only open to UK inhabitants for this collection at first, the service was eventually extended to selected categories of non-UK inhabitants, typically those from continental EU countries, for the Discovery and Universe follow-up starships collections as well. In hindsight, it became clear that the overall 2020 termination of subscription services for the Standard Edition was actually intended as a desperate cost-saving measure by the soon-to-be-bankrupt Eaglemoss.
  • ↑ International release dates, invariably lagged behind those for the UK home maket, ranging from weeks to years in some rare cases. UK releases started to regularly experience delays beyond the release dates as planned by the company from early 2020 onward due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Brexit -inspired move of the company's warehouse and distribution centre from London, UK, to Waghäusel-Kirrlach, Germany, in early January 2021. (see also footnotes of main article ) It has resulted in a delay ripple effect for the international releases as well, since the UK release was leading for the others – even for Germany and the EU, somewhat ironically. The post-2020 release dates mentioned in all tables, are therefore indications of intention rather than the actual release dates. This applied to all partwork releases by the company.
  • ↑ The cover of the XL Edition of the Akira -class gives a different "real" ship length of 440 meters long rather than 464.43 meters, resulting in a scale of 1:3667.
  • ↑ The "real" Solar-Sailor's length is given as 49 meters on the Starfleet & the Federation scale chart included with the Star Trek: Shipyards - Starfleet & the Federation Box Set , and was published in late 2019. Scale was calculated from this figure, courtesy of Wixiban.com [8]
  • ↑ The magazine states that the size of the Prometheus is 126 m (used for scaling here) but other sources (and its onsceen appearances) indicate that a more appropriate size for the ship is 415 m [9] , placing the scale at 1:2964. Courtesy of Wixiban.com [10]
  • ↑ Scaling is based on an estimate of the armored Voyager set at a length of 360 metres (a 5% increase from the standard hull configuration), courtesy of Wixiban.com. [11]
  • ↑ The magazine states the size of the Bajoran Raider is 33.1 m (used here for scaling) but other sources (and on-screen appearances) indicate that a more appropriate size for the ship is 8.5 m [12] , placing the scale at 1:71. Courtesy of Wixiban.com [13]
  • ↑ The original studio model of the Academy trainer craft bore a (too small to be seen on-screen) Cobra logo (from G.I. Joe ) as a nose marking. Hasbro , the owner of this design, "declined" Eaglemoss' request to use it for the starship model so a Red Squad logo was substituted.
  • ↑ The dimensions of the Borg Queen's ship are not stated in the magazine. Scale is based on a length/beam of 820.4 m, as published in the Star Trek: Starship Spotter reference book.
  • ↑ The remastered Eymorg ship's scale is based on an estimated length of 10 meters. Courtesy of Wixiban.com. [14]
  • ↑ The scale of Arctic One was based on the magazine's cover which stated the ship's length was 80 meters. As the assimilated version of the vessel is also deemed by the earlier magazine to be the same length, this version would be more appropriately sized at 60 meters, placing the scale at 1:480. Courtesy of Wixiban.com. [15]
  • ↑ The length of the Warship Voyager was not stated in the magazine so it was estimated at 348 meters long. Courtesy of Wixiban.com. [16]
  • ↑ A more appropriate length for the "real" Vaadwaur Fighter appears to be about 24 meters, placing the scale at 1:209. However, the stated length from the magazine was used here.
  • ↑ According to a scale chart later created by the show's VFX supervisors, the Federation Tug is approximately 66 meters long, placing the scale at 1:733. [17] However, the stated length from the magazine was used here.
  • ↑ Although the magazine cover states that the "real" T'Pau is 470 meters long, the 142.5 meter length printed on the poster included with Eaglemoss' Star Trek: Shipyards - Starfleet & the Federation Box Set was used for scaling here, as it appears to more accurately reflect the ships seen on-screen. Courtesy of Wixiban.com. [18]
  • ↑ The Fesarius' scale was based on an estimated diameter of 2,080 meters. The magazine's cover states the "real" vessel's diameter is "more than 1.6 km". Courtesy of Wixiban.com. [19]
  • ↑ As the lengths of the "real" USS Excelsior concept designs are not stated in the magazines, scale was based on the final ship's length of 467 meters. Courtesy of Wixiban.com. [20]
  • ↑ The size of the "real" D'Vahl is not stated in the magazine so scale was based on an estimated length of 30 meters. Courtesy of Wixiban.com. [21]
  • ↑ The sticker on the base of the Nebula -class USS Melbourne model's stand has "USS Nebula (Prototype)" printed on it.
  • ↑ Like the other Nebula class variants, the USS Melbourne 's magazine states that the "real" ship is 442.23 meters long, placing the scale of this model at 1:3810, which is used here. However, due to the ship's extended hull and other configuration differences, Ex Astris Scientia's estimated length of 535 meters would more appropriately set the scale at 1:4612. [22]
  • ↑ As the lengths of the "real" USS Excelsior concept designs are not stated in the magazines, scale was based on the final ship's length of 467 meters. Courtesy of Wixiban.com. [23]
  • ↑ Scale was based on an estimated length of 150 meters for the "real" Orion Interceptor. Courtesy of Wixiban.com. [24]
  • ↑ Scale of the Concept III model was calculated using the (final) "real" USS Excelsior 's length of 467 meters. Courtesy of Wixiban.com. [25]
  • ↑ The scale of the Karemma starship model was calculated using the Star Trek Fact Files ' stated length of 380 meters for the "real" ship, as the ship's length was not provided in the issue. Courtesy of Wixiban.com. [26]
  • ↑ Erroneously, the sticker on the bottom of the Tamarian Deep Space Cruiser model's stand has "Karemma Starship" printed on it. A corrected sticker was sent to UK subscribers with issue 175.
  • ↑ A design chapter is listed for pages 10-11, which however, is not featured in the magazine.
  • ↑ Kes' "real" shuttle was estimated as 30 meters long for scaling purposes by Wixiban.com, the length of a previous incarnation of the ship when it appeared in 'Drive', as the ship's length was not provided in the magazine. [27]
  • ↑ The "real" Denobulan Medical Ship was estimated as 23 meters long for scaling purposes by Wixiban.com, as the ship's length was not provided in the magazine. Courtesy of Wixiban.com. [28]
  • ↑ The "real" Xindi-Insectoid Scout was estimated as 140 meters long for scaling purposes by Wixiban.com, based on a concept drawing in the magazine, as the ship's length was not provided in the issue. [29]
  • ↑ Courtesy of Wixiban.com, the scaling of Archer's "real" toy ship was calculated using an estimated length of half a meter, as information about the toy's dimensions was not provided in the magazine. The "real" spaceship that the "in-universe" toy ship was based upon was estimated by Wixiban at 18 meters long, which would place the scale of the Eaglemoss replica at 1:200. [30]
  • ↑ As no information is included in the magazine, the scale of the Vidiian Starship model was calculated using a length of 500 meters for the "real" ship, as estimated by Ex Astris Scientia. [31]
  • ↑ The company has created new CG models for the Bonus Edition fleet ships from the Kelvin Timeline because the films' producers could not locate some of the original CG files within their archives.
  • ↑ The Bonus Edition issue numbers and sequence shown here were provided by Eaglemoss UK in October 2019, are substantially revised from earlier versions, and do not necessarily list the ships in the order of actual release.
  • ↑ The Future USS Enterprise -D model was first released on 28 November 2013 as a gift premium for subscribers and later became available to the general public exclusively from company webshops. A magazine was not included.
  • ↑ A model of the apocryphal SS Yorktown model premiered at the New York Comic-Con and the Destination Star Trek Europe conventions in October 2016. [32] (X) Subscribers were able to purchase it at a discount [33] (X) and some remaining "limited stock" was retailed as a webshop exclusive. [34] (X) [35] (X) In total, 5,000 models were produced as a limited edition and a magazine was not included.
  • ↑ Following a successful online fan petition championed by The Trek Collective and Geekology , [36] (X) models of the USS Titan (which primarily appears in Star Trek novels, video games and calendars, but made its first canon appearance in the Star Trek: Lower Decks episode " No Small Parts ") were produced. The original CGI model was designed by Sean Tourangeau and constructed by Ellery O'Connell , but the model was modified by Fabio Passaro for this collection. Project Manager Ben Robinson has later divulged that the Titan was considered an important release for Eaglemoss, as it was at the time the very first non-canon ship they released in the "Bonus Edition" side-collection. [37] Robinson had indicated at the time that, like with the preceding Yorktown issue, 5,000 copies was the minimum pre-sale number required for any petition to be successful, which was apparently achieved. [38] Unlike the preceding Yorktown issue, a magazine was now included.
  • ↑ Following a successful online fan petition championed by The Trek Collective and Geekology , [39] (X) models of the USS Aventine (which primarily appears in Star Trek novels, video games and calendars) were produced. The ship saw a very limited retail release, outside of Eaglemoss sources. The CGI model was constructed by the ship's designer, Mark Rademaker .
  • ↑ Andrew Probert's USS Enterprise -C concept design appeared (in profile) in a six-ship relief sculpture of vessels named USS Enterprise , displayed on a wall in the USS Enterprise -D's observation lounge .
  • ↑ The scale of the USS Enterprise -C Probert concept model was calculated using Andrew Probert's scale chart, indicating that that the "real" ship was intended to be 1721 feet (or 525 m) long. [40] This information was not stated in the magazine.
  • ↑ The length of the "real" Phase II USS Enterprise is not stated in the magazine so scale was calculated using Kennedy Shipyards' specifications, placing the length of the ship at 301.55 m. [41] Designed for use in Star Trek: The Motion Picture , Andrew Probert lengthened the Enterprise refit to a thousand feet (304.8 m), "just a few feet longer than it was", in reference to Matt Jefferies' Phase II ship dimensions. Computer screens also displayed the Phase II Enterprise design in the first two Star Trek films . ( Designing a refit- Enterprise for Phase II )
  • ↑ The USS Defiant model features phosphorescent paintwork to simulate the starship's appearance when it became trapped in Interphase . Chronologically, it was the seventh Bonus issue released but it is identified as the tenth in Eaglemoss' catalogs.
  • ↑ Scale of the "real" Voyager concept ship was based on a length of 1,250 feet (381 m), as stated by Rick Sternbach on the Unofficial STSS Facebook page on 28 September 2018. [42]
  • ↑ Following a successful online fan petition championed by The Trek Collective and Geekology , [43] (X) models of the USS Bonaventure , which originated in the 2006 Ships of the Line calendar and its book derivatives , were produced. The CGI model was constructed by the ship's designer, Meni Tsirbas .
  • ↑ The length of the "real" Bonaventure is not stated in the magazine so scale was based on an estimate of 265 meters. Courtesy of Wixiban.com. [44]
  • ↑ Both Enterprise -F models included an A5-sized printed insert bearing a code for a free Tier-5 Odyssey class ( β ) tactical cruiser and exclusive Ship Material and Ship Upgrade tokens for the Star Trek Online PC game. The magazines contain the same content but have different covers.
  • ↑ A limited edition of 2500 cloaked (translucent resin) USS Defiant models debuted on 3 October 2019 at the New York Comic Con , and was also retailed on the 25th of the month at the Destination Star Trek convention in Birmingham, England. A smaller magazine (measuring 144 × 182 mm) is included within its windowbox package. [45] [46] [47] (X)
  • ↑ The length of the "real" Conestoga is not stated in the magazine so scaling was based on an estimated length of 211 meters. Courtesy of Wixiban.com. [48]
  • ↑ The length of the "real" Klingon D4 concept is not stated in the magazine so scaling was based on an estimated length of 145 meters, equal to that of the Klingon Raptor. Courtesy of Wixiban.com. [49]
  • ↑ The diameter of the "real" Cardassian orbital weapons platform was not stated in the magazine and was estimated at 120 meters. Courtesy of Wixiban.com. [50]
  • ↑ Tiny hull markings painted on the outer rim of the USS Reliant Concept's saucer (and behind its bridge) identify the model as the "USS Antares ", whereas its other hull markings are correct (for Reliant ).
  • ↑ Starting in 2021, the Bonus Edition side collection dispensed with the packaging format of the standard edition which had just been suspended perminently previously, and went hencefort with the Collector's Editions packaging and magazine format from issue 26 onward as standard.
  • ↑ 60.0 60.1 60.2 60.3 All scheduled, but cancelled Eaglemoss issue releases had already entered regular production when the company went bankrupt and commercial quantities in the 500/2000-copy range of the display model at least had actually been produced by the manufacturer in China before production had to cease. [51] [52] They were acquired from the administrators by (new) Master Replicas along with the regular remainder stock, and sold to the public after all through their webstore, starting in April 2023 with the XL edition of the USS Stargazer and the regular edition of the USS Vancouver from the main and Lower Decks collections respectively, [53] several of them selling out within a day. Third-party UK and Far Eastern eBay retailers who had managed to get their hands on a handful of these unreleased Eaglemoss issues previously – and selling them at hugely inflated prices – , had already reported that these previously unreleased models came without the magazine, they apparently not having entered the regular print-run yet by the time of the bankruptcy, [54] (X) a state of affairs confirmed later on by the ones marketed by Master Replicas. It turned out a short while later though, that in the cases of the unreleased Special and XL issues at least, digital magazine versions were actually completed. Master Replicas only included (physical) magazines if they had already been packaged with the model (which was for the previously released issues not always the case, explaining in the process the large stock of back issues), some of which in German, the only foreign language version (besides Japanese, which however fell under the auspices of DeAgostini) still being printed by the time Eaglemoss had gone bankrupt; an 100,000-copy magazine (back-)issue stock did exist at two printer-owned warehouses somewhere (possibly also holding magazines of the unreleased issues as well), but the printer refused to release them until debt owned by the bankrupt Eaglemoss was fulfilled in full. As the new formal (model) inventory owners, Master Replicas had entered into legal negotiations with the disgruntled printer and was able to resolve the issue in August 2023. [55] [56] [57] The sale of this magazine stock started on 26 December 2023. [58]
  • ↑ 61.0 61.1 Originally announced as the Pralor vessel in the February 2019 survey . It was initially assumed by Master Replicas that neither model nor magazine for this issue had entered the manufacturing stage yet when Eaglemoss went bankrupt, as only a prototype model (in Pralor vessel livery) was included in an earlier batch of stock received from overseas. That prototype model became offered as a reward for the winner of an online competition Master Replicas ran on their Twitter account in July 2023. It was only afterwards that it was discovered that the model had actually entered regular production, and the company subsequently sold an uncovered 2000-copy Cravic ship variant stock on 1 September 2023. [59] Not only that, but a short while later a smaller stock of 500 Pralor warship variant models was also uncovered which had been intended as a model-only convention exclusive. It went on sale by ballot at a higher price point on 2 October with the proceeds earmarked for charity, though twenty copies turned out to have suffered transportation damage beyond salvation. [60]
  • ↑ From the proposed 8th season of DS9 as seen in the What We Left Behind documentary and named for Emmett Till , a 14 year-old African-American boy who was lynched in 1955. Designed by John Eaves .
  • ↑ The Special Edition Deep Space 9 model does not include a display stand.
  • ↑ The length of the "real" USS Enterprise from the 2009 film was not stated in the magazine. The ship was designed to be 366 m long but was scaled up by a factor of two for some sequences. 725.35 m (used here to calculate scale) is the length indicated by the film's Blu-ray disc. [61]
  • ↑ The magazine's cover states that the Kelvin is 315 m long (used here to calculate scale) but the ship was also scaled at 457.2 m and 655 m during the film's production.
  • ↑ Diameter of K-7 is not stated in the magazine. Scale calculated using Ex Astris Scientia's estimated (approximate) diameter of 450 m. [62]
  • ↑ Length of the USS Enterprise XCV-330 is not stated in the magazine. Scale calculated using the Star Trek Spaceflight Chronology 's stated length of 300 m.
  • ↑ The length of the Klingon Warbird is not stated in the magazine so scale was calculated using an estimated length of 350 m, as indicated by Ex Astris Scientia. [63]
  • ↑ The "real" Kobayashi Maru 's size is not stated in the magazine. Scale is based on Ex Astris Scientia's estimated length of 562 m. [64]
  • ↑ Spacedock stands approximately 225 mm high when displayed on its stand.
  • ↑ Scale derived from placing the "real" V'ger 's length (after shedding its energy cloud) at 78,000 km, as stated in the novelization and seen in a film outtake. The magazine cover states the vessel's length is 300 million km, placing the scale at 1:1363636363636. Courtesy of Wixiban.com. [65]
  • ↑ The Planet Killer features internal electronic lighting, requiring two LR41 button cell batteries that are not included with the model.
  • ↑ The Planet Killer model's scale was based on an estimated "real" length of 5 km. Courtesy of Wixiban.com. [66]
  • ↑ A full-sized magazine (with a typo in its title) was included with the 18 karat gold-plated USS Enterprise -D model that was released in the UK. The model began to be retailed by the US e-shop on 23 December 2019 but did not include a magazine when first shipped. The model is enclosed in a Standard Edition box, within a printed outer sleeve that correctly identifies the product as the "Gold Model of the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D".
  • ↑ The size of the "real" Vulcan Warp Sled is not stated in the magazine so scaling was based on the 48 meter length printed on the poster included with Eaglemoss' Star Trek: Shipyards - Starfleet & the Federation Box Set . Courtesy of Wixiban.com. [67]
  • ↑ Regula I stands approximately 225 mm high when displayed on its stand.
  • ↑ 77.0 77.1 Starting with issue 25, a fifth magazine size dimension variant was introduced for the "Special Edition" sub-collection; the magazine was downsized from the hitherto regular large A4 format to the smaller 176 × 227 mm dimension in order to fit within the box packaging, just as the similar case would be with the Bonus Edition sub-collection later that year, though at 145 × 183 mm that magazine size variant would become even smaller. Collectors found themselves confronted with another magazine size variant yet again, and one for which, unlike most other size variants introduced after the Standard Edition was terminated, no binder was ever provided.
  • ↑ The scale of the Son'a Collector was based on a "real" ship length of 5000 feet (1524 m), based on John Eaves' concept drawing, courtesy of Wixiban.com.
  • ↑ The Eaglemoss version of the station differs in several respects from the one featured in DS9 : " Apocalypse Rising " (its only canon appearance) because of the artistic license taken with the production model; firstly, the elaborate antenna array on top is for the Eaglemoss version switched to the bottom, and secondly, a fourth, lower arm was added at the rear of the CGI model, which had never been there on the production-used studio model (see main article for further clarification), making this outing one of the most apocryphal and egregious – for a company that prides itself for its "accurate" representations of canon models, that is – renditions by Eaglemoss of a structure that has appeared in canon.
  • ↑ Later reseller (new) Master Replicas has confirmed that this was the very last "Special Edition" issue to have entered production, with no others planned yet at that moment in time. [68] (X) This model too came without a magazine – even though a digital mock-up had actually already been completed [69] – , but 1250 of them were produced before the cessation of model production. [70] .
  • ↑ The final production version of the XL USS Thunderchild model does not have the ship's name printed on the saucer, in line with the studio model's appearance in First Contact . Inadvertently, a small number of models were released (mainly to Brazil) that had purple-painted impulse engines instead of grey. [71]
  • ↑ Scale was calculated based on the "real" Akira -class' length being placed at 440 meters, as is printed on the XL magazine's cover. A length of 464.43 meters, as is printed in the Standard Edition magazine, was not used here but would result in a scale of 1:2101. Courtesy of Wixiban.com. [72]
  • ↑ The XL Edition Deep Space 9 model includes a display stand.
  • ↑ The XL Edition USS Shenzhou model erroneously bears mirror universe Terran Empire markings on its nacelles, rather than Starfleet logos. Beginning with this issue, slightly smaller magazines (measuring 227 × 155 mm) were enclosed with all XL Edition models, now sized to fit within the boxes.
  • ↑ The only time that no new render of the CG model was made for the cover; instead, the exact same render was used as the one used seven years earlier for regular issue 36.
  • ↑ While (new) Master Replicas sold the model without the magazine, a digital magazine mock-up had actually already been completed. [73]
  • ↑ The Limited Edition (XL) version of the 18-carat gold-plated USS Enterprise -D is identified as the "Gold USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D" on its box and the "USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D (Special)" on its stand's label. It was made available for pre-order from company webshops (with only 1000 copies available worldwide) as a convention exclusive for the New York Comic Con x MCM Comic Con Metaverse online event (8-11 October 2020), and was first shipped (in a premium "Best of" box) to US customers in January 2021 and to UK customers during the following month.
  • ↑ The Limited Edition (XL) version of the 18-carat gold-plated USS Enterprise was made available for pre-order from company webshops (with only 500 copies available worldwide) in late April 2021.
  • ↑ When (new) Master Replicas received its stock acquired from the Eaglemoss administrators, it was discovered that the model was produced in larger quantities than originally announced, coming in at roughly twice the number Eaglemoss said it would. [74] Master Replicas planned to sell them in two batches to the public after all through their webstore in May and July 2023, [75] though it was eventually decided to forego the two-batch sale and stick to an one-time-sale only format on 26 May after all, [76] and where it sold out within the hour. [77] This was the second model for which Master Replicas strictly adhered to its recent 1-copy/1-customer rule, which the company had conditionally instituted for specific items, [78] the first one having been the Enterprise -E XL3 issue. [79]
  • ↑ The Type-7 shuttlecraft was constructed from Andrew Probert's concept design that appeared on LCARS displays, at the designer's request.
  • ↑ The Med Evac shuttle model is marked as shuttle 43, a shuttle that didn't have a red livery in the film.
  • ↑ In the second, third, and fourth editions of the Star Trek Encyclopedia , information about this Hawking was added to the entry about the original Type 7 Hawking while a diagram of a Type 6 shuttlecraft appeared alongside, which might explain the designation used here. Both the miniature and the full-sized shuttle used in Star Trek Generations for the Hawking were slight redresses of one of the Galileo -type shuttlecraft shuttles built for Star Trek V: The Final Frontier . The Type 6 was also originally constructed from another one of the Final Frontier shuttles.
  • ↑ An early production run of this 2018 re-release erroneously omitted the USS Enterprise -B model and included the USS Enterprise -E model. Free replacement ships were provided to customers by the company.
  • ↑ After the August 2022 Eaglemoss bankruptcy, (new) Master Replicas sold the stock of the Titan convention exclusive through their webstore in May 2023, divulging that a little over a 1,000 copies had been produced of this format version. [80] Ben Robinson had observed that a handful of copies had fallen into the hands of "scalpers" who sold them at hugely inflated prices on eBay. [81] Having eventually become canon in 2020 through Lower Decks though, was actually the very reason for its inclusion in the otherwise entirely canon Collector's Edition convention exclusive range.
  • ↑ Distribution issues resulted in some subscribers receiving their gift premiums much later than the scheduled intervals indicated on the magazine's subscription sites. Nonetheless, the magazine's Terms and Conditions state that the company had the right to modify this schedule (and the gifts) unilaterally. For American and Canadian subscriptions, the gift premiums were scheduled for much later subscriber milestones than had been the case with all other territories.
  • ↑ The bookends were previously released as a Star Trek Graphic Novel Collection gift premium and were added as gift premiums for new Starships Collection subscribers in September 2018.
  • ↑ This enamel pin was previously released as a FanSets product and was added as a gift premium for new subscribers between June and August 2018.

Eaglemoss Star Trek regular binder variant

Variant standard binder

  • ↑ Robinson had actually been mulling over the concept as far back as 2012 when he worked on the two ( Star Trek ) Owners' Workshop Manual s for Haynes Publishing , " I think the logical thing to do, and I haven’t even said this to Haynes, would be a Starfleet shipyard. I’m actually working on a collection of small model Star Trek ships. We’re collecting all the different CG models together as reference and then producing die-cast scale-model ships. These ships, like the Akira or… you can get much more obscure, like the Equinox or the Prometheus… they’re a big part of what makes the franchise cool for people, and there’s been remarkably little done about them. So if Haynes come back and say, “That went really well. What do we do next?” I think that’s what I would suggest to them. " [82] As it turned out, Haynes was not interested in Robinson's ideas, and what he had in mind eventually became the Eaglemoss Shipyards book series. In August 2020, Eaglemoss/Hero Collector released a similar shipyard book, entitled Battlestar Galactica Shipyards , that focused on spaceships from the Battlestar Galactica franchise ( ISBN 1858756111 ), whereas a second book, Battlestar Galactica: Designing Spaceships ( ISBN 1858758009 ), was announced for an initial release in July 2021, but which was postponed to 5 October 2021. [83] Like their Star Trek counterparts, both titles originate from magazines articles first published in its related partwork from the same publisher.
  • ↑ Since it first became available, the "Federation & Alien" (left) binder has been retailed continuously by the company's German webshop and was still in stock as late as 2021 – albeit language-adapted. [84]
  • ↑ Aside from those countries where it had entered into joint ventures with established outside publishing partners (such as De Agostini in Japan), Eaglemoss has utilized Data Base Factory for its customer service, distribution, translation, and editorial services for the UK and non-English language areas. Data Base Factory is now a subsidiary of CCA International Inc.
  • ↑ The company's discontinuation of non-English-language magazine releases were accompanied with not only the closure of the relevant official websites that had operated since the debut of the Collection in non-English territories, but also with the (premature) termination of subscription services in the foreign-language territories those websites had covered.
  • ↑ In conjunction with the expansion from seventy to ninety issues, Robinson later confirmed that former Star Trek Producer Dave Rossi had made the entire starship database of the remastered Original Series available to the publication. [85] From this acquisition, Robinson scored a coup for his project as it constituted the first time that the remastered Original Series ships, particularly those specifically constructed for the production, [86] were made available for products produced for the general public. This availability enabled Robinson to incorporate several of these into the starships lineup past issue 50 (including issues 60 and 63) and the run increase enabled him to slate more for release in later issues. [87] Rob Bonchune contributed new meshes for issues 57 (though strictly speaking, this was Bonchune revisiting the model he had already constructed for Robinson in 1999 which had made its debut in Star Trek: The Magazine  Volume 1, Issue 4 ) and 62 , as the remastered TOS CG models had not reached Robinson by the time the models were first required. However, these models were not quite production-ready, as CBS Digital had used Autodesk Maya software for their CGI effects at the time and the models needed to be converted into LightWave 3D , the software package of choice for the vast majority of Star Trek digital modelers. Robinson assigned Fabio Passaro, among others, to this chore. [88] Ironically, CBS Digital had originally bought the majority of the "hero" ship models from Finnish digital modeler Petri Blomqvist but had to convert them to Maya as he had constructed his models in LightWave. ( Sci-fi & fantasy modeller , Vol. 26, p. 48-50) If his models were to be used (such as for the planned Terran Empire Enterprise extra issue), then they need to be reconverted back into LightWave.
  • ↑ Following an unsuccessful search and appeal to a number of past Star Trek production artists, it appeared that the original CG models created for Star Trek: Insurrection and Star Trek Nemesis have been lost, necessitating Robinson's decision to commission all-new models for the Collection . [89] [90] Robinson has also commented that some existing models might be in file formats that require computer software that no longer exists, sometimes due to the use of proprietary 3D software in the past. In addition, subsequent upgrades to LightWave software has resulted in alterations to the current appearance of some production-used models, as some legacy features (including some shaders) are no longer supported.
  • ↑ Both incarnations of the Adam / McQuarrie -designed Planet of the Titans USS Enterprise study models (that were briefly seen on-screen as unidentified background ships) were slated for production as miniatures (with new CG models created by Eaglemoss) but after years without change in their licensing status by the licensor, Ben Robinson conceded that they "probably won't happen" due to legal ambiguities.

The 19 Coolest Starships In The 'Star Trek' Universe

Zach Seemayer

Throughout the  many complicated iterations  of the Star Trek universe, there are entire cultures dedicated to exploration, subjugation, and assimilation. Whether they're looking to  map uncharted territories or obliterate neighboring races, the right starship makes all the difference.

Here's a look at some of the greatest Starfleet cruisers, Klingon fighter ships , and bizarre sentient space vessels that the  Star Trek universe has to offer.

USS Enterprise-D

USS Enterprise-D

Where It's From: Star Trek: The Next Generation

Who It Belongs To: Starfleet

Why It's Awesome: Everything from its size to its mission makes the USS Enterprise-D  unique . Meant for long journeys, the starship is quite a bit larger than similar Starfleet vessels because crew members can bring their families to live onboard during their travels. Capable of carrying up to 6,000 people, the vessel is frequently described as a marvel of engineering and design.

USS Defiant

USS Defiant

Where It's From: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Why It's Awesome: Originally designed to take on the Borg, the  Defiant is the first Federation ship to employ a cloaking device  - courtesy of a temporary alliance with the Romulans. The vessel plays a key role in the final defeat of the Dominion. Also of note, Worf lived on the Defiant for a time, and he seems like a pretty great roommate to swap space stories with.

USS Voyager

USS Voyager

Where It's From: Star Trek: Voyager

Why It's Awesome: After being blasted to the far side of the galaxy, this Intrepid-class starship proves its worth by exploring the previously uncharted Delta Quadrant. Voyager is one of the most advanced ships for its time, complete with bio-neural circuitry and a highly advanced Emergency Medical Holographic program. In fact, the ship is so advanced that it boasts an ablative generator and transphasic torpedoes - technology acquired from a future alternate timeline.

USS Enterprise (NCC-1701)

USS Enterprise (NCC-1701)

Where It's From: Star Trek: The Original Series

Why It's Awesome: This Constitution-class heavy cruiser was built in San Francisco, assembled in space, and has one of the most storied histories of any vessel in Starfleet. It has visited more than 70 different worlds over its multiple five-year missions, and is the flagship of the Federation fleet.

Klingon Bird-Of-Prey

Klingon Bird-Of-Prey

Where It's From: Star Trek III: The Search for Spock Who It Belongs To: Klingons  Why It's Awesome: The versatile Bird-of-Prey can serve as a scout ship, a fighter ship, a raiding ship, or a stealth transport. It is as dangerous and savvy as the warrior race that created it. With a sleek avian design, cloaking capabilities, impressive firepower, and superior agility, it's one of the most feared ships in the galaxy.

Deep Space Nine

Deep Space Nine

Who It Belongs To: Starfleet, Bajorans

Why It's Awesome: The mobile space station Deep Space Nine is essentially a city in space , making it a den of intrigue where there's never a dull moment. It's decked out with a robust arsenal, and also has a bar that could rival any space cantina in science fiction.

USS Vengeance

USS Vengeance

Where It's From: Star Trek Into Darkness

Why It's Awesome: Unlike every other vessel belonging to Starfleet, the  USS Vengeance  exists for only one reason : conflict. Not exploration, not peacekeeping, just the wholesale obliteration of the Klingons. Created in secret by Section 31, the massive ship is the only Dreadnought-class vessel ever built by Starfleet. It's twice as big and three times as fast as the next largest Starfleet ship, and can fire its powerful photon array even at warp speed.

USS Relativity

USS Relativity

Why It's Awesome:  Hailing from the 29th century, the USS Relativity travels through time  with the express purpose of monitoring and maintaining the integrity of the space-time continuum. The vessel was commissioned by the Temporal Integrity Commission, which is believed to be descended from the Federation's longstanding Department of Temporal Investigations.

USS Excelsior (NX-2000)

USS Excelsior (NX-2000)

Where It's From: Star Trek III: The Search for Spock

Why It's Awesome: The Excelsior is an  Excelsior-class ship , a one-of-a-kind prototype of its class. It was referred to as "The Great Experiment," and was designed to test the power and limitations of the first-ever transwarp drive. While the transwarp drive never ended up working properly, it's a testament to the Federation's ambitious efforts to develop new ways of charting and exploring the universe.

Sh'Raan

Sh'Raan

Where It's From: Star Trek: Enterprise

Who It Belongs To: Vulcans

Why It's Awesome: This Vulcan combat cruiser  has one of the sleekest and most stylish ship designs in the entire universe. Featuring a circular nacelle and some powerful weaponry, this vessel cruises the stars in style.

Phoenix

Where It's From: Star Trek VIII: First Contact

Who It Belongs To: Dr. Zefram Cochrane

Why It's Awesome: A decommissioned projectile  launched into space to test the first-ever warp drive, the  Phoenix lead to Earth's first contact with an alien species. It was the wild dream of a mad scientist who put his life on the line to test out his theory, and it became the first human ship to ever reach the speed of light. The entire Federation owes a debt of gratitude to Cochrane and the flight of his Phoenix .

Borg Cube

Who It Belongs To: The Borg

Why It's Awesome: The Borg are all about efficiency, and the design of the Borg Cube perfectly encapsulates  the Borg ethos . The ship is not meant to have the sleek, clean aesthetic of the Starfleet ships, or the almost organic style of some Romulan ships. Instead, it's a geometric hive of multifarious parts that serves as a stark reminder of the Borg's ultimate mission in the universe: Assimilation.

Scimitar

Where It's From : Star Trek: Nemesis

Who It Belongs To: Romulans

Why It's Awesome: Equipped with nearly flawless cloaking technology, the Scimitar leaves no residual anti-protons or tachyons, making it undetectable. However, its true might is in its epic arsenal , which includes 27 photon torpedo bays and 52 disruptor banks. This gives the vessel several times the offensive capabilities of any other ship of its age. To top it all off, the Scimitar has a thalaron radiation device, which consumes organic matter and can wipe out all living organisms on a planet in a matter of moments.

Gomtuu

Who It Belongs To: Gomtuu

Why It's Awesome: Technically, Gomtuu is a sentient lifeform that enjoys a symbiotic relationship with its crew. The interior of this living vessel contains oxygen, gravity, and life-support systems, and it can grow equipment and furniture out of its amorphous walls to suit the needs of those living inside it.

Jem'Hadar

Jem'Hadar

Who It Belongs To: The Dominion

Why It's Awesome: The pride of the Dominion space fleet, the Jem'Hadar ships  are twice as large as Starfleet's Galaxy-class starships and several times more powerful. They  use ion propulsion and can deflect tractor beams, but are built with little in the way of comfort. You won't find any chairs or viewscreens on the bridges of these vessels.

Krenim Weapon Ship

Krenim Weapon Ship

Who It Belongs To: The Krenim Imperium

Why It's Awesome: This vessel has a temporal core , which fuels its powerful, reality-bending weapon. It can alter the very fabric of the universe by firing an energy beam that removes entire civilizations from the space-time continuum - and existence. However, the massive size and power of the ship leave it with significant drawbacks: It can't move faster than warp 6 and its shields are relatively weak.

V'Ger

Where It's From: Star Trek: The Motion Picture

Who It Belongs To: V'Ger

Why It's Awesome: This living, thinking, evolving entity was formed from the humble space probe Voyager 6. After being retrofitted and repaired by a planet filled with living machines , the probe began to collect data and map the universe. As it travels through space, the sentient spacecraft continues to grow, ultimately becoming larger and more powerful than anything ever encountered by Starfleet.

Narada

Where It's From: Star Trek

Why It's Awesome: Originally designed for mining , the Narada is modified by the Romulan madman Nero into a device of nearly unstoppable destruction. Capable of taking out entire squadrons of Starfleet vessels with ease, and possessing a mining laser that can drill into a planet's core, the vessel is a marvel of raw power. Also, its overall design makes it look like a cyberpunk Cthulhu, which gives it extra points for style.

Sarcophagus

Sarcophagus

Where It's From: Star Trek: Discovery

Who It Belongs To: Klingons

Why It's Awesome: Known as the "Ship of the Dead," this Klingon vessel contains the remains of thousands of fallen Klingon warriors . These mortal remains, known as the Black Fleet, reside in capsules that cover the hull of the ship in a type of interlocking shield, making it a psychologically intimidating and deeply important vessel for the Klingons.

Star Trek Shipyards Starfleet Starships: 2294 to the Future Review: Newly Expanded Edition Adds ships from ‘Discovery’ and ‘Picard’

This updated version adds 70 new pages of information and never-seen images from the latest Star Trek series

Review: Star Trek Shipyards Starfleet Starships: 2294–The Future – Updated & Expanded Edition

In the Star Trek universe, the ships of Starfleet are a class apart (no pun intended) from the rest of the ships we encounter. The Starship Enterprise is without a doubt not just the most recognizable ship in the franchise but an argument can be made that it is quite possibly the most recognizable ship in all of science fiction. All other Starfleet ships bow at her altar in terms of design and functionality. Great care has gone into making sure that all Starfleet ships including the Enterprise evolve with time and technology while still retaining the distinct look that makes them worthy of carrying the sacred delta insignia.

USS Lantree NCC-1837

That was the biggest takeaway for me after the first read-through of Star Trek Shipyards: Starfleet Ships: 2294–The Future . The foreword of this Updated & Expanded second edition, which includes seventy new pages that cover Starfleet vessels from the third season of Star Trek: Discovery and the first season one of Star Trek: Picard , makes a mention about the first edition being Eaglemoss’ most popular entry in their Shipyards series of books and deservedly so. There are ships of all shapes, sizes, color patterns, characteristics in Star Trek but the ones we spend the most time with are Starfleet ships. Much like they are our tether as we traverse through strange new worlds, the Starfleet Shipyards book is the perfect tether for us as we dive deeper into the world of Trek spaceships.

USS Armstrong

Shipyards: Starfleet Ships consists of five main sections: Small Transports, Fighters, Multi-Mission Explorers (the biggest section), The Future & 32nd Century. The ships covered in this edition only include the Prime Universe which is a little disappointing to me as a Trekkie whose fandom began with Star Trek ’09. Most ships contain an overview that spans a couple of pages along with plan views of the ship along with stills of the ship’s exterior and interior taken directly from each series. The overview begins with a breathtaking portrait of the ship, a result of high-quality CG model work from the Hero Collector/Eaglemoss team. To the surprise of no one who owns an Eaglemoss starship model or has read any of their previous book releases, the quality of both new artwork and stills from the shows is top-notch. If books like this are all we get until Deep Space Nine and Voyager hopefully get their high-definition remasters, I’m not complaining.

USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D

The words in Shipyards: Starfleet Ships are the supporting characters. That doesn’t deter editor Ben Robinson and his team from providing as many words as can possibly be fit on the pages without crowding the art. The overview covers in detail the origin story of the ship, features that set it apart, and many of its remarkable adventures in the show. Of course for a ship like the Enterprise, it would most likely take a full book to cover everything so there is a cliff-notes like approach to a subject like that but when a ship like the USS Nog is showcased you feel like you know everything about the ship by the time you get to the last word on it. Factoring in the comprehensiveness of the overview, descriptions of important sections in the plan views pages, and the Data Feed section, not much, if any, is left off the page in most cases. It is an encyclopedia in the true sense of the word.

Wallenberg Class

At a whopping 312 pages from cover to cover, Shipyards: Starfleet Ships is not a mere book, it is a visual experience. As a reference source, it is harder to think of a better book that would qualify as a definitive guide to Starfleet’s ships. A cup of Raktajino, one of Jerry Goldsmith’s Star Trek scores playing in the background, and a book like Shipyards: Starfleet Ships is all you need for an engaging, nourishing reading experience.

Hero Collector Unveils New Range Of Star Trek Universe Ship Models

| March 5, 2021 | By: TrekMovie.com Staff 30 comments so far

For years Eagelmoss Hero Collector has been releasing a series of die-cast Star Trek ship models covering the TV and film franchise. And now they are rolling out a new collection of ships, which will include ships from Star Trek: Picard, Discovery, and the upcoming series Strange New Worlds. We have a sneak peek at some of the first releases from this new line.

Hero Collector Star Trek Universe Collection

Under the umbrella title of the Star Trek Universe Starship Collection , this new series is designed as a continuation of Hero Collector’s popular Star Trek: Discovery Starships Collection , featuring new starships at the same scale, to keep collections compatible.  These hand-painted, die-cast starship models aim to perfectly replicate the most iconic starships from modern live-action Star Trek TV series – and each one is accompanied by an in-depth magazine, including ship specs, behind-the-scenes info, and interviews with designers.

Priced around $55 earch, the new line is set to launch in April 2021. Eaglemoss has revealed the first six ships in this monthly collection…

La Sirena: The hero ship of Star Trek: Picard , is a Kaplan F17 Speed Freighter which was hired by Jean-Luc Picard and helmed by Captain Rios, an ex-Starfleet officer himself. It was a discreet warp-capable ship, well-suited to the search for Soji Asha. You can pre-order La Sirena now for $54.95 .

U.S.S. Zheng He : An Inquiry -class starship, the U.S.S. Zheng He was touted as the toughest, fastest, most powerful ship Starfleet had ever put into service. William Riker returned from retirement to captain it into battle above the planet Coppelius. The Zheng He arrives on May 24 and you can pre-order for $54.95 .

The following ships don’t have release dates or pre-order links yet…

Romulan Bird-of-Prey: A retro callback to the classic Romulan designs of the Original Series, this antique Romulan starship was owned by the warlord Kar Kantar, and terrorized shipping throughout the Qiris Sector.

Fenris Ranger Ship: A small, aggressively-armed one-person starship, this vessel was piloted by Seven of Nine in her work with the vigilante Fenris Rangers. She used it to come to the resuce of La Sirena when it came under fire in the Qiris Sector.

Narek’s Snakehead: A nimble Romulan scout vessel, the Snakehead’s size belied its formidable armaments and cloaking capabilities. Narek flew this starship in pursuit of La Sirena , as it fled The Artifact.

Romulan Bomber Warbird : A new class of Romulan starship, this sharp-edged, angular warbird was employed by both the Romulan Free State and the secretive Tal Shiar in their exploitation of The Artifact.

If you are looking for something a bit bigger, Hero Collector launches their “ Build the U.S.S. Enterprise-D ” subscription program in the first half of March. The program has you subscribe to regular deliveries of parts and simple instructions (without the need for glue or paint) to form your own 2-foot long U.S.S Enterprise-D model, complete with stand, detachable saucer, and internal lights.

Wake me up when Star Trek has something more affordable like Micromachines again. I don’t know how anyone can afford to keep up with expensive Star Trek products anymore. Star Trek Mego’s are a nice affordable product. Super7 will have 3 3/4” Reaction Figures of The Next Generation characters that are a little pricey for what they are but under $20. I’m just ready for Star Trek to have toys again and not just expensive collectibles.

I don‘t know, if you’re supposed to by every ship. I don’t even like most of the designs Eaglemoss sells. But I love my USS Orville, even if it was 70 Euros

I usually wait for sales and then focus on what I’m interested in, but yes I have a complete set of Star Trek Micro Machines and those things are amazing, but right now I’m focusing on collecting all of the Enterprise’s from Eaglemoss. Their shipping rates are terrible though and I hate that they are not ALL die-cast. I got the bajoran solar sailer years ago and in the process of the move the flimsy plastic pieces broke.

I pre-ordered the La Sirena a month ago. Going to have to wait a bit for the Zheng He. But I will totally be dropping $55 for it when I have the chance.

Ah, the Battlestar Zheng He

DO YOUR JOB.

I don’t even know what this comment means…

It intrigues me though

Generally not a fan of the ship designs from Kurtzman-era Trek thus far, but the Romulan ship is cool. Definitely a fan of die-cast, though. Agreed this is pricey.

Have appreciated the Eaglemoss models from afar, but never actually given any serious thought to buying one.

Like you, I do like die-cast, and had quite a few models (not Star Trek) when I was younger. I guess that, at these sort of prices, I’d just be too wary of chipping them.

I like the Romulan design too. That’s the one I would have gone for.

I just bought the Zheng He! Can’t wait!

Couldn’t you have just pressed ctrl + v and saved yourself 55 bucks? Lol

The art of starship design has been completely lost in this era and Star Trek toys are now focused solely on collectors.

Well said. Over-designed, inelegant rubbish from Eaves.

They’re disgusting, ugly ships. Hard to believe Eaves designed the Sovereign and Akira classes. He’s fallen off big time.

The Akira was designed by Alex Jaeger.

Quite right, Cody. I stand corrected of course!

I’m such a sucker for these starship models. I’ve given waaay too much money to Eaglemoss over the years, in fact I just bought a batch of four on sale, including the Ent-F. But I don’t buy anything from Kurtzman Trek – it’s too expensive, I don’t have enough room, and…I don’t like any of the designs :( I mainly collect Starfleet ships, but even the Zheng He doesn’t seem worth it to me, maybe because it aggravates me the CGI artists on Picard just copy pasted it 80 times, making it seem so cheap. I like ships that feel special. Serena doesn’t interest me either, it’s such a bland vessel. I remember when starships were given as much character as the people on screen…but now it’s just, CGI spaceship go brrrr

Such a shame, all the grandeur of the ships from previous years has been lost, and you’re right that the ship once had as much personality as the characters. All originality has been lost. That cut n’ paste in the Picard finale was disgraceful.

These look great! Definitely getting the Zheng He.

That said, five years later, I despair of ever seeing the Kelvinverse 1701-A. They could sell me two if they also did a “Probert version” based on Sean Hargreaves’ concept art.

I know the KT is sort of in limbo, but it’s still odd to me that they did an XL rendition of the weird refit skinny nacelles version that got trashed, but not the new hero replacement ship.

Like I had no idea what Seven’s fighter even looked like, as it was a quick moving blur seen at a distance, yet we get a lovingly rendered model! Ships seen for maybe ten seconds get their own models, but not the one that we saw being built in detail, and launched with a beauty spin-around shot, at the finale of what possibly might be the last KT film?

This is just a guess but maybe they want to keep the option to redesign the 1701-A in case they actually do a continuation of the adventures of Pine-Kirk and crew.

Would love the A! Both versions, regualr and XL. A friend of mine who works for EM said, you never know, when I asked him about it,lol!

Those new ship designs look ugly. The older ones had some elegance and sleekness to them. I don’t think this “boxy” design is working for Trek. This is like the designs changed from a Toyota to a big American off-road truck.

Someone please tell Eaves that not every Federation starship needs angular hard lines everywhere. Those nacelles on the USS Copy Paste are a trainwreck. The class and sleekness of the TOS/TNG era has been completely lost. What a shame.

Eaglemoss making the Zheng He is super smart- they’ll be able to make convention exclusives for the next century thanks to the Cut and Paste Fleet.

La Sirena looks like it escaped from the cover art of an old Atari game.

Lol – so true. I’m fairly sure I got hep-C just looking at that awful “hero” ship.

Is the La Sirena supposed to be painted like Eddie Van Halen’s guitar? That’s not a joke. Is that supposed to be a reference to VH?

I’m sorry but the new ship designs of the new shows just look so ugly and bad to me. I just really miss the look of the ship designs of the old shows (and clearly not alone in that). I just can’t get over the hero ships of DIS and PIC are some of the ugliest ships I have ever seen. I am getting use to Discovery but the La Sierna is just so generic looking it can literally be in any sci fi universe. I can’t imagine wanting it for free, much less paying to display it somewhere in my house.

I pre-ordered the Zheng-He. This will probably be the last one. Im running out of room. If they release a XL edition of the Odyssey Class or if an Enterprise F (canon) shows up on Picard which is about 75% unlikely they would get my attention again.

I was up for this series but the price / frequency of release are too high and the quality of the Zheng He put me off going for any of them. There are no shots of the underside of the Zheng He for good reason. Zoom into what parts you can see and the Eaglemoss model really does accurately depict the screen model, ie: poorly detailed. The promo-shots show that the nacelles are misaligned and gappy and the weird tonal effect on the Bussard collectors looks too cartoony on the scale they chose; almost as if it was designed to be a smaller model and then scaled up.

Star Trek Minutiae: Exploring the Details of Science Fiction

I have been a fan of science fiction for more than thirty years, since my parents introduced me to Star Wars some time in 1991. Since then, I’ve become obsessed to varying degrees with many shows including Star Trek , Babylon 5 , Battlestar Galactica , The Expanse , and many others. Generally, I don’t buy into most of the incessant crossover debates that frequently rage on certain sci-fi message boards. Rather than waste time proving that the Imperial Star Destroyer can blast Kirk’s Enterprise into molten slag, I prefer to enjoy each story based on the merits of its own setting and plot. Since the entire technological background is fictional anyway, the writers can simply make up any quasi-scientific principles that they wish for the sake of the plot.

Although I’m not that interested in the technological comparisons between series, I’ve occasionally wondered about how a certain starship would compare in size to those of another series. When Farscape ’s John Crichton first saw Moya , he exclaimed, “That’s big.... really big.” The question is, just how big is “big”? So I started to gather a list of the sizes of various science fiction ships. There are plenty of fans out there who have worked up all kinds of comparison charts on their own. But the one thing that very few of those charts has ever done is to include non-canon fan designs alongside the original canon starships. I decided to create one all-encompassing chart that would include many (if not quite all) of the Star Trek ships that are out there. The charts available below include those created by the Advanced Starship Design Bureau , Masao Okazaki at the Starfleet Museum , and Star Trek: Renaissance , the fan fiction series of which I was once a part.

I originally started these charts as a side project , to fulfill my own curiosity for how the ships stacked up. But they’ve become one of the most popular resources on Star Trek Minutiae, and I’ve even found copies of them floating around elsewhere on the web. So, here’s the original cross-sci-fi starship reference!

Screen Rant

3 star trek ships have crossed to & from the mirror universe.

Many Star Trek characters have met their Mirror counterparts but 3 starships have also crossed over from the Prime and Mirror Universes.

  • Mirror Universe featured evil versions of Star Trek characters, with starships rarely crossing between universes.
  • Star Trek: Enterprise revisited Mirror Universe with USS Defiant, while Star Trek: Discovery explored it with USS Discovery.
  • ISS Enterprise appeared in Mirror Universe, where Spock implemented reforms for a more peaceful way of life.

Three Star Trek ships have crossed between the Mirror Universe and the Prime Universe. Introduced in the classic episode of Star Trek: The Original Series , "Mirror, Mirror," the Mirror Universe is a dark parallel reality featuring evil versions of Star Trek's characters. Although the Mirror Universe has popped up on several Star Trek series since its introduction, starships rarely make the jump between universes. In "Mirror, Mirror," it was a transporter malfunction that caused Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) and his USS Enterprise crew members to end up in the Mirror Universe, but that's not the only way characters have traveled between the two realities.

Star Trek: Enterprise revisited the Mirror Universe with season 4's two-part episode, "In a Mirror, Darkly," which saw the return of the original USS Defiant. Star Trek: Discovery 's characters aboard the USS Discovery also visited the Mirror Universe in the show's first season. In Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 5 , "Mirrors," the ISS Enterprise made its first appearance since its introduction in Star Trek: The Original Series. In the Mirror Universe, the authoritarian Terran Empire rose instead of the United Federation of Planets, and Starfleet is comprised of warships like ISS Enterprise that conquer and subjugate other worlds. Here are 3 starships that crossed over between Star Trek 's Prime and Mirror Universes.

I'm Glad Star Trek: TNG Never Did A Mirror Universe Episode

The uss defiant in star trek: enterprise, star trek: the original series season 3, episode 9 - "the tholian web" & star trek: enterprise season 4, episodes 18 & 19 - "in a mirror, darkly".

Although Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's USS Defiant would become the more famous ship to bear the name, there have been multiple ships named Defiant , including a 23rd-century Constitution Class starship first seen in Star Trek: The Original Series . In the TOS episode, "The Tholian Web," the USS Enterprise was sent to locate the Defiant , which they found trapped between universes, with its entire crew dead due to apparent insanity and mutiny. In a conflict with the Tholians, the Defiant was pushed through a spatial hole to an unknown destination.

The final destination of the USS Defiant was revealed in Star Trek: Enterprise's Mirror Universe two-parter, "In a Mirror, Darkly." The Defiant both traveled back in time and crossed into the Mirror Universe. The Mirror Universe Tholians then began to salvage the ship, but Commander Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula) of the ISS Enterprise NX-001 plotted to steal the Defiant and use its advanced 23rd technology to install himself as Emperor of the Terran Empire. Archer commandeered the Defiant but en route to Earth, Lt. Hoshi Sato (Linda Park) poisoned Archer and took command of the Defiant, declaring herself Empress.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine later introduced the Defiant Class USS Defiant, and the Mirror Universe had its own version although neither crossed universes.

The USS Discovery in Star Trek: Discovery

Star trek: discovery season 1.

Star Trek: Discovery season 1 spent five episodes in the Mirror Universe after Captain Gabriel Lorca (Jason Isaacs) manipulated the starship and crew back to the alternate reality he originated from. Previously unknown to the Discovery's crew, Lorca was actually from the Mirror Universe and intended to use Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) to gain access to Emperor Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh) and her ship. Lorca altered the coordinates for Discovery's spore drive, knowingly taking the ship into the Mirror Universe.

In the Mirror Universe, Michael Burnham was the adopted daughter of Emperor Georgiou and plotted with her lover, Lorca, to kill her mother.

Once in the Mirror Universe, Discovery's crew had to masquerade as their evil counterparts as they searched for a way to get home. Burnham eventually discovered Lorca's ruse and thwarted his plan before Emperor Georgiou ultimately killed him. Lorca's betrayal deeply affected Burnham and the rest of Discovery's crew, and their time in the Mirror Universe greatly cost the Federation. When Discovery returned to the Prime Universe nine months after they had left, the Federation/Klingon War was going badly, but Burnham and Georgiou helped bring the conflict to an end.

Michelle Yeoh will reprise the role of Emperor Georgiou as the star of the upcoming Star Trek: Section 31 made-for-streaming film.

Star Trek’s 10 Most Evil Mirror Universe Characters

The iss enterprise in star trek: discovery, star trek: discovery season 5, episode 5 - "mirrors".

Star Trek: Discovery season 5 sends Captain Michael Burnham and the USS Discovery on an intergalactic treasure hunt for the powerful technology of the Progenitors , the creators of humanoid life. As part of their search, the crew of the Discovery finds a wormhole that leads to a pocket of interdimensional space, where they find the abandoned ISS Enterprise. The 23rd-century starship became a lifeboat for refugees fleeing the brutal Mirror Universe. According to a plaque on the ship, Mirror Universe Spock (Leonard Nimoy) implemented a series of reforms for a more peaceful way of life after his encounter with Prime Universe Captain Kirk (William Shatner).

Star Trek: Discovery season 5 filmed its ISS Enterprise scenes on the redressed USS Enterprise sets belonging to Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

Although Spock was killed for his beliefs, he inspired others to set out in search of a better life. Despite an undoubtedly difficult journey, at least some of the refugees from the Mirror Universe's ISS Enterprise made a life for themselves in the Prime Universe. One of the refugees, a woman named Dr. Cho, became one of the seven scientists who helped hide the Progenitors' technology. She placed her clue on the ISS Enterprise, which remained undisturbed for centuries. Star Trek: Discovery season 5 has revisited several storylines from Star Trek's history, and the return of the ISS Enterprise serves as a nice shout-out to the Star Trek series where it all began.

Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Trek: Enterprise, & Star Trek: Discovery are all available to stream on Paramount+.

Eaglemoss starship previews: final sto ship, first discovery ship in the universe collection, and loads of classic tos, tng, and voyager ships on the way.

Eaglemoss: Hero Collector have announced several new issues in their various starship model collections, including the final model from the Star Trek Online series, the first Discovery ship in the Universe series, and a whole bunch of new bonus issues offering up ships from Voyager , TNG , and TOS ! Continue below to check them all out:

First up we have issue twenty in the  Star Trek Online series (ad)   Star Trek Online series, the USS Concorde (ad) . This four-nacelled design original to the game is due to arrive in November.

star trek universe ships

We were never able to sell quite enough of these to make any money. It's a shame because there's some lovely work here. Can't thank everyone enough.

star trek universe ships

There are a fair few ships of the week, and even recurring designs, that Eaglemoss didn't manage to make before the original 180-issue run concluded (the prominent Kazon ship one of the most egregious omissions), so this renewed run of bonus issues should help fill in some notable gaps. So far the three Kelvin ships and the Defiant-concept are scheduled for just about fortnightly releases. These newly revealed ships add another two months of releases, if that pace holds, so we could in effect be seeing the original Starships Collection resuming here, just without the option of subscription. Long may it continue; there are many more ships from the older series I'd still like to see!

Finally, looking to Eaglemoss: Hero Collector's other sort of starship series, if you're a regular reader you'll know I've been following progress on the  Build the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D  model kit part work (ad)  via the in-depth build videos from World of Wayne. The latest video covers pack eight, which is mostly dealing with more bits of the saucer, and part of the neck:

To get hold of the latest ships, look for individual releases via the  Eaglemoss' web-shop in the US (ad)  and  the UK . For discounted pre-orders, check  Things For Another World (ad)  too, who normally offer a 20% pre-order discount.

As always, The Trek Collective is the gold standard on all things Trek from 1966 to the present. Your Eaglemoss Trek content is the best & most accurate on the net. One concern for Eaglemoss: their renderings of the renovated Discovery-A depict the vessel in the copper skin it’s worn since Season 1. For the refit, the skin was redone in gorgeous silver, and subtle changes made to the secondary hull. Remembering their version of the TOS Enterprise from the pilots with the jarring absence of the high bridge tower, I hope the Eaglemoss team takes advantage of this opportunity & doesn’t produce a copper refit that is just a duplicate of the first version with the nacelles chopped off. If you can put a word in with Eaglemoss, it would gladden the hearts of many collectors & your followers. Thanks!

Factory Entertainment has a very nice die-cast metal Nomad figure, which they sell for $10. https://www.factoryent.com/Star-Trek-Nomad-KUZO-p/408396.htm It will be interesting to see how Eaglemoss' version of Nomad compares with this.

Aw, that's a shame. I really loved the STO ships, even if the quality was a bit inconsistent from issue to issue. At least the Concorde is sexy AF.

Star Trek: Best Book-Only Characters

  • The Star Trek novels introduce unique characters like Akaar and Treir, adding depth to the expansive Starfleet universe.
  • Characters like Nick Keller and Elias Vaughn bring new perspectives to the post- DS9 era, facing challenging galactic events.
  • Mackenzie Calhoun leads the USS Excalibur in a new hero ship series, showcasing tactical genius in the New Frontier books.

Just like the universe itself, the Star Trek franchise is huge and far-reaching, encompassing several television shows, and numerous video games, movies, and books. While many of Star Trek 's most iconic characters appear in various series and films, there are many other great characters who only feature in alternative media sources. For instance, the final frontier has spawned some memorable video game-based characters .

Star Trek: 8 Most Powerful Federation Starships, Ranked

Yet perhaps the richest source of characters is the now questionably canon series of books that take place following The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine . From fresh takes on classic species like the Andorians and Orions, to some of Starfleet's finest officers, the Star Trek novels are a treasure trove of notable figures.

Leonard James Akaar

First appearence: star trek mission gamma book one: twilight.

  • Author: David R. George III
  • Publication Date: September 2002

Leonard James Akaar is unique among novel-only characters in that he does, in fact, make a blink-and-you'll-miss-it appearance on televised Trek . "Friday's Child," an episode of The Original Series , ends with his birth; however, the Capellan royal would not be seriously fleshed out until 2002's Mission Gamma: Twilight . By the time of the Deep Space 9 novels, Akaar had risen through the ranks of Starfleet to become an influential admiral with the ear of the Federation president.

Akaar's strategic mindset and steely resolve proved essential in preserving the Federation through some of its darkest periods, including the Borg invasion depicted in the Star Trek: Destiny series. The Starfleet legend may have been born in The Original Series , but the Star Trek novels were where he made his name.

First Appearence: Star Trek: Demons of Air and Darkness

  • Author: Keith R. A. DeCandido
  • Publication Date: September 2001

Star Trek features many inspirational female characters, from Kira Nerys to Katherine Janeway. However, few are as resourceful or as motivated as Treir , an Orion Dabo girl who transformed Quark's Bar into a highly successful business during the post- DS9 novels. Following her escape from Orion servitude, Treir earned her place as Quark's right-hand woman by implementing a series of radical reforms, including hiring a Dabo boy to attract more customers.

Star Trek: The Fates Of Every Live-Action TV Show's Main Character

Treir may not play a significant role in the canon-shattering events depicted in the Deep Space 9 novels, but this ruthless businesswoman helped to make Star Trek 's prose universe feel like a living, breathing place. If anyone is capable of giving Quark a run for his latinum, it's her.

Nick Keller

First appearence: star trek new earth: challenger.

  • Author: Diane Carey
  • Publication Date: August 2000

New Earth , a series of six novels that take place between Star Trek: The Motion Picture and The Wrath of Khan , was intended to act as a backdoor pilot for a new narrative focusing on Commander Nick Keller . In the final novel, Keller takes command of a makeshift starship in order to defend the human colony of Belle Terre from alien attack. Keller was conflicted between overthrowing his inept captain and preserving the lives of his comrades, and it's a great shame that a full series based on the space cowboy's adventures never emerged.

Interestingly, author Diane Carey based Keller's appearance on Scott Bakula, who would go on to play Captain Jonathan Archer in Star Trek: Enterprise . Keller, however, would make only two more appearances in the Star Trek universe, with both being part of the multi-series Gateways crossover event.

Elias Vaughn

First appearence: star trek: avatar (book one).

  • Author: S. D. Perry
  • Publication Date: July 2001

Elias Vaughn was a Starfleet officer and intelligence operative who joined Deep Space 9's command staff following the end of the Dominion War . Despite only holding the rank of commander, Vaughn's expertise proved a boon to the Federation outpost, and he played a role in several key events, including the USS Defiant 's post-war exploration of the Gamma Quadrant (depicted in the Mission Gamma sub-series).

Star Trek: 8 Impressive Things Kirk Did Before Joining The USS Enterprise

Vaughn was haunted by the death of his wife, Ruriko, and his troubled relationship with his estranged daughter, Prynn. This relationship was complicated by the fact that Prynn was also assigned to Deep Space 9. However, father and daughter were eventually able to reconcile–but not without some bumps along the way.

Christine Vale

First appearence: star trek: the belly of the beast.

  • Author: Dean Wesley Smith

While William Riker's USS Titan has made notable appearances in Star Trek: Lower Decks , the starship's adventures were originally chronicled in a series of spin-off novels. These books featured Christine Vale , a former detective turned Starfleet officer, as Riker's second-in-command. Vale was initially unwilling to take the post, as she disliked the idea of Riker working so closely with his wife, Deanna Troi.

Luckily, Vale took the post, which allowed her to act as a counterweight to any of Riker's Troi-related biases. During her time aboard the USS Titan , she helped to explore the Beta Quadrant and fend off a Borg invasion. Indeed, her record was so good that, following Riker's promotion to admiral, she took command of the Luna -class starship.

Thirishar ch'Thane

From their initial appearance in 1967's "Journey to Babel" and 2001's "The Andorian Incident," references to Star Trek 's Andorians were true and far between. One important detail was disclosed in The Next Generation , however: Andorians have four sexes , with all four required for successful reproduction.

The character of Thirishar ch'Thane (or "Shar") was a response to this premise. Shar served as Deep Space Nine's science officer following the end of the Dominion War, but was torn between his commitments to Starfleet and to his mating group, who wished him to return to Andor. This dilemma was further complicated by a dangerous decline in Andorian fertility, which threatened to cause the Andorians' extinction in the long term. Shar was eventually able to use his scientific knowledge to help solve the Andorian fertility crisis.

The Jem'Hadar are one of Star Trek 's most iconic creations , a powerful race of warriors motivated by their addiction to the chemical ketracel-white. During the Dominion War of 2373–2375, the Jem'Hadar were central to the Dominion assaults which nearly overwhelmed the Federation Alliance.

8 Best Starfleet Ships During The Dominion War

After the war's conclusion, Taran'atar , a Jem'Hadar without a ketracel-white dependency, was sent to Deep Space Nine as a cultural observer. Taran'atar's struggle to adjust to the Alpha Quadrant during peacetime makes for fascinating reading, as does seeing the fearsome warrior growing closer to his former enemies. Taran'atar's story takes some strange twists and turns, but he remains a fascinating character.

Mackenzie Calhoun

First appearence: star trek new frontier: house of cards.

  • Author: Peter David
  • Publication Date: July 1997

In 1997, Pocket Books published the first of Peter David's New Frontier books. While these novels included several characters from TV Trek (mostly notably Commander Shelby from "The Best of Both Worlds" ), they focused on a new hero ship, the USS Excalibur , and a new captain: Mackenzie Calhoun . Calhoun, an alien warrior modeled after Mel Gibson, was depicted as a tactical genius capable of beating Starfleet's toughest challenges–including the infamous Kobayashi Maru test.

Calhoun soon became a fan-favorite, with his New Frontier series including over 20 volumes. The Xenanian captain was even popular enough to be made into an action figure, the only example of this honor being bestowed on a character originating from any of Star Trek 's novels.
