SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - People from across the state came together for the Louisiana Travel Association’s summit at the Shreveport Convention Center to discuss the state’s plan to attract tourists in 2025.

Louisiana Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser addresses Travel Association summit

Representatives from state tourism agencies were in attendance and eager to learn what they can do to bring more people to their cites.

“We promote Mardi Gras all over Louisiana internationally. We had people flying to Dallas internationally from Japan. So, promoting family-friendly, safe affordable Mardi Gras in every corner of the state has really helped boost the economy and help grow Mardi Gras all over Louisiana,” Nungesser said.

While cities like New Orleans constantly get big events like next year’s Super Bowl and the final four, the lt. governor emphasizes the importance of making sure all of Louisiana has a chance to be showcased to the world.

“We have a team that travels the country, bring sporting events like the Olympics trials for volleyball here in Shreveport, Dixie World Series in Ruston, so we’re going around the country finding events and plugging them in where they fit,’ Nungesser said.

With that, Louisiana saw more than 43 million people visit the state in 2023, including a 17% increase in international visitors.
