Gaz Coombes announces 2023 UK and European headline tour

The Supergrass frontman will release new solo album 'Turn The Car Around' early next year

Supergrass frontman Gaz Coombes has announced details of a headline tour of the UK and Europe in 2023 – see dates below and buy tickets here .

The singer will release  his fourth solo album, ‘Turn The Car Around’ , on January 13 via Hot Fruit Recordings/ Virgin Music ( pre-order/pre-save here ). It was announced back in September with first single ‘Don’t Say It’s Over’.

Around the album’s release date in January, Coombes will head on a short in-store tour of the UK, before headline European dates begin in March.

April will then see him return to the UK for headline dates that end with a London gig at Electric Ballroom.

“‘Turn The Car Around’ is a record that I’ve been building up to for the last seven years,” Coombes explained of the new album in a statement. It’s said that the project “captures the ups and downs of modern life and all the small print in between”.

The forthcoming record serves as the final part of a trilogy that began with Coombes’ 2015 LP ‘Matador’ and continued with his most recent full-length, 2018’s ‘World’s Strongest Man’.

Tickets for the new March and April tour dates go on sale from 9am GMT on Friday, November 11. See the full list of all dates below and buy your tickets here .

Coombes has already previewed the upcoming LP with the single  ‘Sonny The Strong’ , which came out over the summer.

Elsewhere, Coombes recently reflected on performing at this month’s Taylor Hawkins tribute show with Supergrass . “It was a beautiful night,” he said.

Supergrass played a three-song set at the special Wembley Stadium event. Coombes also covered  David Bowie ‘s classic single ‘Modern Love’ alongside  Nile Rodgers . “It was just one of the most incredible moments of my life,” Coombes remembered. “I mean, that song means a lot to me.”

Gaz Coombes has announced a series of European dates in support of his forthcoming third solo album, World’s Strongest Man (released on Hot Fruit/Caroline International on May 4th).

Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday, 2 February from the usual agents. A presale will be available from 10am on Wed 31 January for fans signed up via Coombes’ website . Sign up there for future gig pre-sales and exclusive offers. Please note: the mainland European dates in April are solo shows; all other dates are with a full band.

In addition, Coombes has just released a video for the first single from World’s Strongest Man , ‘Deep Pockets.’ The self-directed, filmed and edited clip features the artist undertaking one of the trippiest Uber-pool journeys from the back of a cab in Los Angeles.

“I shot the Deep Pockets video on a shoestring, mostly in LA at the end of 2017,” Coombes says of the video. “The idea came from the lyrics & memories of weird night drives over the years – a never-ending car journey laced with paranoia, intermittent hallucinations & unexpected car-pooling. I liked the idea of getting together with some fun, interesting people in a car at night, filming it all & just seeing what happened. It worked out well. They all did great.”

World’s Strongest Man is released on Hot Fruit/Caroline International on 4 May 2018. The record is inspired variously by Grayson Perry’s The Descent of Man , Frank Ocean’s Blonde , Californian weed, British woodlands, unchecked toxic masculinity and hip hop (and a whole lot more besides), it is a bold, ambitious, free-thinking, future-facing rock‘n’roll record. In addition to the forthcoming European and UK dates, Coombes plays a previously announced one-off, sold out show at ULU on February 28th.

Gaz Coombes announces 2023 tour

Ahead of the release of his forthcoming solo album ‘Turn The Car Around’, due January 13th 2023 via Hot Fruit Recordings / Virgin Music, Gaz Coombes has announced headline tour dates across the UK and Europe beginning in March 2023. The dates will see Gaz performing with his extended live band, Garo Nahoulakian, Nick Fowler, Piney Gir and vocal trio The Roxys (a nickname given to them by Nile Rodgers when they shared the bill at a Later with Jools show), all of whom feature as guest musicians on ‘Turn The Car Around’.

Tickets will be general sale from Friday 11th November at 9am GMT here . Fans who pre-order the album from the official Gaz Coombes online store here will receive eligibility to access a ticket presale beginning Wednesday 9th November at 9am GMT.

The news comes amidst a wave of live activity around the release of ‘Turn The Car Around’. This week Gaz performed a sold out show at London’s intimate Lafayette to debut music from the new album, a first taste of the masterfully written and recorded songs contained within, and a timely reminder of why Coombes remains one of the UK’s most enduring and gifted songwriters. Looking ahead to January, Gaz will perform a run of special album release shows at record shops across the UK.

Added straight onto the BBC Radio 6 Music playlist upon its release, the elegantly constructed new single ‘Don’t Say It’s Over’ follows a swirling, art-rock groove as Gaz recalls the heady first night he met his future wife. It’s a first glimpse of a record seven years in the making. A record of feeling, an album that captures the ups and downs of modern life and all the small print in between.

Written and recorded in his gloriously ramshackle Oxfordshire outhouse Studio, Gaz has emerged with the best work of his illustrious career. It’s an album that both taps into the sonic palettes and lyrical themes of its predecessors and marks the third and final part of a trilogy of records alongside 2015’s Mercury and Ivor Novello nominated sophomore album Matador and 2018’s World’s Strongest Man. At the same time, it carves a bold new way forwards. “There’s a lot of subject matter in there that I’ve played with and maybe not managed to see through in the past. I’ve evolved”, Gaz adds.

As he celebrates 10 years of his lauded solo career, riding the crest of the Supergrass reunion wave and looking ahead to a bold new album release in Turn The Car Around, Gaz Coombes will tour Europe and the UK on the headline dates below through March and April 2023.

It’s a body of work that mirrors Marr’s unquenchable life force and his love of melody.

Johnny Marr announces April 2024 UK tour with Gaz Coombes

He plays 10 headline shows

Smiths legend and esteemed solo artist Johnny Marr has confirmed a 10-date headline tour for April 2024.

Supported by Supergrass frontman Gaz Coombes at all dates, Johnny Marr will open his tour at Newcastle O2 City Hall on Tuesday 2nd April and wrap up at Nottingham Rock City on Sunday 14th April.

The Spirit Power Tour also visits Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Wolverhampton, Cardiff, Bristol, London and Brighton.

Tickets to Johnny Marr’s UK tour go on sale from Absolute Radio Tickets at 10am on Friday 27th October.

The UK tour news arrives amidst a buzz of activity celebrating the first ten years of Johnny Marr’s prolific solo career.

‘Spirit Power: The Best Of Johnny Marr’, a major new collection curated by Johnny, is set for release on Friday 3rd November via BMG. The album also includes two brand new songs titled ‘Somewhere’ and ‘The Answer’, and a number of unheard demos.
