Justin Bieber Returns To The Stage a Year After Canceling World Tour

Justin bieber took the stage at scotiabank arena in toronto to perform during the nfl all-star draft, and his wife hailey bieber gave fans a glimpse at the acoustic set..

Justin Bieber fans have been waiting forever and a day for this moment.

The "One Less Lonely Girl" singer officially returned to the stage for the first time since canceling the rest of his Justice World Tour amid his struggle with Ramsay Hunt Syndrome .

Justin performed a medley of hits—including his tracks "Peaches" and "Ghost" as well as SZA 's "Snooze"—at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto following the NHL All-Star Player draft on Feb. 1. And he was aptly dressed for the occasion, wearing a blue NHL All-Star jersey , along with a backward baseball cap and baggy jeans.

His wife Hailey Bieber shared several videos of the occasion to her Feb. 1 Instagram Story , including one where Justin sings a bit of his 2010 track "Eenie Meenie." Referencing Taylor Swift 's record-breaking tour, the 27-year-old jokingly captioned the video, "Here's your JB eras tour performance."

And Justin, who captained one of four teams at the event, wasn't the only star to make an appearance at the draft as his fellow Canadian superstars Michael Bublé , Will Arnett , and Tate McRae also headed teams.

Still, the Drew founder's performance was especially exciting for fans, as Justin has kept a fairly low profile amid his battle with the rare neurological disease.

Back in June 2022, he shared he had been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt Syndrome, revealing it had caused facial paralysis and left him unable to smile or blink from one eye. After postponing several dates to recover, the 29-year-old tried to resume his tour a few months later, he ultimately canceled the rest of the North American leg of his tour before quietly canceling the rest of his tour last March .

"I'm going to take a break from touring for the time being," he wrote in a Sept. 2022 Instagram Story . "I'm going to be ok, but I need time to rest and get better."

Since stepping back to focus on his health, Justin has rarely taken the stage aside from accompanying The Kid Laroi  in January 2023. From the stage wings, he joined his "Stay" collaborator for a rendition of the song.

Two months later, the "Sorry" singer showed off his progress in recovering from Ramsay Hunt, posting a video on social media in March 2023 of him able to grin ear to ear.

Justin Bieber is a popular Canadian teen pop and R&B singer-songwriter. Known for his devoted followers, the “Beliebers,” the teen idol has worked with the who’s who in pop culture.

During elementary and high school, Bieber learned to play the piano, guitar, drums, and the trumpet. At age 12, after placing second in a local talent show singing Ne-Yo’s “So Sick,” Bieber’s mother, Mallette, began to upload the singer’s performances to YouTube.

In mid-2007, marketing executive Scooter Braun accidentally clicked on one of Bieber’s videos, which ultimately resulted in the young singer signing with Braun and R&B singer Usher’s Raymond Braun Media Group. Whilst still recording his full-length debut, the singer issued his first single “One Time” in July 2009. Reaching No. 12 on the Canadian Hot 100 and No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100, the single catapulted Bieber to international success at the age of 15.

The EP My World followed in November 2009, spawning the singles “One Less Lonely Girl,” “Love Me,” and “Favorite Girl.” Following a host of high-profile TV appearances, the release was certified platinum in the U.S. and double platinum in Canada and the UK. Toward the tail end of 2009, Justin Bieber performed Stevie Wonder’s “Someday at Christmas” at the White House for President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama.

Ahead of his album My World 2.0, Bieber released the smash hit single “Baby” featuring rapper Ludacris. Issued in March 2010, My World 2.0 topped the U.S. Billboard 200, making Bieber the youngest person since Stevie Wonder to reach the top spot, as well as the first act since the Beatles to have a debut album reach No. 1.

Spawning the singles “Never Let You Go,” “Eenie Meenie,” “Somebody to Love,” and “U Smile,” the My World 2.0’s R&B style earned positive reviews from critics and later a 2011 Grammy nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album. The album’s success was not limited to the U.S. and Canada, and Bieber embarked on his “My World Tour” after the release to reach his international fan base.

The album My World Acoustic arrived in October 2010, featuring several acoustic covers of previous songs, followed by the 3-D music biopic Justin Bieber: Never Say Never in February 2011. Bieber’s Christmas-themed album Under the Mistletoe appeared in November 2011, once again topping the Billboard 200 and generating significant buzz.

Released in June 2012, Bieber’s second full-length album Believe marked a move away from his teen-pop audience and toward a more dance- and R&B-inspired style. With production from Diplo, Darkchild, and Max Martin, the album spawned the Top 10 hit singles “Boyfriend,” “As Long as You Love Me” featuring Big Sean, and “Beauty and a Beat” featuring Nicki Minaj. The album became the singer’s fourth No. 1 album and was followed once again by an acoustic album, entitled Believe Acoustic.

In October of 2013, Bieber announced to his fans that he would release a new track every Monday until Christmas Day, when his new film Justin Bieber’s Believe would come out — a sequel to his first film Justin Bieber: Never Say Never. This round of singles kicked off with “Heartbreaker” followed by “All That Matters,” “Hold Tight,” and others.

The final release in the holiday series was “Confident,” with a special feature by Chance the Rapper. That day, Bieber also announced that all 10 songs would appear on an upcoming album Journals, on top of five other unreleased tracks. Those five additional tracks featured big names like Lil Wayne and Future, and the album was released to massive cheers from fans for exclusive purchase on iTunes.

February 2015 saw the release of “Where Are Ü Now,” featuring Jack Ü (a duo including Skrillex and Diplo). The track rose up to the number one spot on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart and even earned Bieber a Grammy. Yet even that success paled in comparison to his announcement of his fourth studio album Purpose, which he teased with a new single called “What Do You Mean?”

“What Do You Mean?” became Bieber’s first number one single in the U.S., and he set a Guinness World Record as the youngest solo male artist to debut at the Hot 100’s number one spot. The song reached the number one spot on iTunes within five minutes of its release. The third single from Purpose, “Love Yourself,” is an acoustic ballad with some of Bieber’s best lyrics and melodies yet. When Purpose came out on November 13, 2015, it debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 — a career-crowning moment for most, but the sixth album of Bieber’s to do so.

April 2017 saw the unexpected release of the remix “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, which featured Bieber singing in Spanish. This remix shook the music industry, rising to the top of charts worldwide and marking a merging of the Spanish- and English-listening markets.

2017 marked some of the most iconic collaborations yet in Bieber’s career, including an appearance on DJ Khaled’s single “I’m The One” with Quavo, Chance the Rapper, and Lil Wayne. He also teamed up with BloodPop to release the single “Friends” in August of that year.

In 2019, Bieber surprised everyone at Coachella when he appeared on stage for the first time in two years. Less than a month later, he released a single with Ed Sheeran called “I Don’t Care,” which became a worldwide hit in a short time. On July 11, 2019, he featured on “Bad Guy,” a remix of the breakthrough hit by Billie Eilish.

In 2020, he released the docu-series Justin Bieber: Seasons on YouTube, which documented parts of his life less visible to the public until then: his marriage, his music, and his struggles with Lyme disease. It received over 32 million in the first week alone, breaking YouTube’s all-time records. Bieber followed this by announcing his fifth studio album Changes, which came out on Valentine’s Day 2020.

Since then, Bieber has released singles with Ariana Grande, Drake, and countless others — and also found time to record Freedom, an EP inspired by gospel music that came out on Easter 2021. He continues to break all-time records for Billboard music charts, Spotify, and other platforms worldwide. It’s hard to name a bigger superstar in the world today, and you have a chance to catch him in concert this year — don’t miss the opportunity.

I saw Justin Bieber perform live a few years ago, at the O2 arena in London. It was long before Bieber had begun to cement a rather bad reputation for himself, so I went to the concert with the doe eyed innocence of a young Belieber excited to see her idol. Even now, despite the bad press, there is no doubt that Bieber is an extremely talented artist and that his concerts are one hell of a show- a once in a lifetime experience. Bieber proved that he had real, as opposed to manufactured, talent on stage. He sung all his songs live, and his voice was undeniably good. Even more impressive was his dance moves. Bieber dominated the stage, dancing round and showing off some expert moves with seemingly total ease. Classic such as ‘Baby’ and ‘Boyfriend’ were all obviously performed. When Bieber performed ‘One Less Lonely Girl’, he brought a random audience member on stage with him. He sung to her and presented her with a beautiful bouquet, breaking young hearts everywhere. The girls standing in front of me were actually crying with jealousy at this point (when Bieber had first appeared on stage, it was tears of happiness). The highlight of the show was when mentor Usher appeared to perform ‘Somebody to Love’, the duo’s dancing was off the chain at this point!

Hi Justin Bieber, I wanted to tell you that I have no idea what I'm doing RIGHT now, but anyways I've heard you've went to Philly for a concert. I wish I was there, my heart is broken right now cause I wasn't able to go. I thought I was but I guess my family just didn't have money for me and my twin sister at all. (Even though I'm still belieber and my twin isn't!) We only live a hour and a half away from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia Pennsylvania (PA). Wow!!! Well, I really wanted to tell you that I want you to come back to Philly and perform this year AGAIN. Please. I don't want to rush you but I never went to your performance. I'm only 12 years old, I have a twin, five sisters. My older sister doesn't even act like a sister, and I've never done anything fun, like nothing exciting, fun, in my whole life. And all I want, at least, I want to do is go to your performance In Philadelphia PA. It would be very great and I'll never forget about it and you. Well it would be cool if you came back to Philly again, hopefully I don't miss it, cause this time since my mom don't have money I'll save up money for us four to see you. (If its possible for my broke self.) But see yah Justin Bieber, I don't know how to end this paragraph. Ummmmmm byeeeeeee, luv u! lol :)

Justin seemed kind of out of it during at least the first half of the show. He took two pretty long breaks (at least 5 minutes) where it seemed like the dancers and other people on stage didn't really know what was going on. At one point he just stood on stage in silence for several minutes facing the back, confusing the crew, perfomers, and audience. I think he might be sick because he was coughing a lot and lip-synced quite a bit. He also let the audience sing a lot of his songs. Some highlights were when he played the guitar and sang acoustic versions of some songs, his drum solo, and his performance of upbeat hits like Company, Sorry, and Baby. He didn't interact as much with his audience as I had expected. Unfortunately, he is not doing OLLG during the Purpose tour. He sings really well and the audience is very engaged, possibly more than himself. I recommend going IF, like me, you've been a fan for a while and really want to see him. If you just like his music, it's not worth it because it's not a very captivating performance and it won't be worth the money. Additionally his merchandise definitely isn't that nice, especially considering the cost.

Last night was the best night of my life I think I'm still in shock tbh. Justin looked so happy and healthy last night and that's all I could ever ask for. He may mime for some songs but that doesn't even bother me just breathing the same air and being in the same room as him is a dream come true. Although I fainted just before he performed cold water because I was too claustrophobic I still got straight back up as soon as I heard the start of cold water and carried on having an amazing time even though I was not feeling well. Justin sounded absolutely amazing throughout the whole of the show, his dances were perfect aswell as the dancers. He was having such a good time you could tell by the smile on his face throughout the whole show and the best part was that everyone went silent as soon as he started talked to show him we all respected him and what he had to say. I'll never forget when he made eye contact with me when I put down my phone and put my hands into a heart during purpose. It was the best night of my life and the most amazing 16th birthday present I could ever wish for. I love him so much and I can't wait to see him again. Xxxx

Can anyone who haven't go to a Justin's concert write a comment??

My name is Diana, I'm 22 and I have never going to a Justin's concert!!! I just read all the previous comments and my tears just fell down... because the fact to see and meet Justin personally, is my biggest dream but I BELIEVE, I BELIEVE that one day I'm not going to write ''I haven't go'', the next comment will be ''I went to a Justin's''

Unfortunately, I didn't see Justin growing up during his tours, but I followed his entire life and now, I have among my stuffs a T-shirt of Purpose Tour and his perfume ''Someday''.

It might sound crazy, but I have have times when I speak lonely, just preparing the time when I'll face Justin and imagine all the conversation, because I have to make true this phrase that it's only mine ''I WILL MEET YOU, OR I WILL'' and this will happen, that is a promess. And when that time running, I'll just tell him... my life is very completely now...

I loved all the comments and I just grateful because I know my idol is a very loved person

Seeing Justin Bieber perform live was one of the most fun times of my life. All of the lights, and videos/pictures that they put up on stage are amazing. Being able to be so close to a famous artist and hearing them perform is beyond incredible. Hearing his voice live and seeing him sing through all of his emotions is something that not a lot of people will get to experience. As well as singing Justin also will perform on the drums or piano in some of his songs. Not to mention he is also a great dancer on stage. Justin Bieber is great to see live, because you feel like he connects with every single person in the audience. He tries to make everyone laugh and smile and have a good time. He is very calm on stage, in front of thousands of screaming girls. All concerts, not only Justin Bieber concerts are fun times for anyone, no matter what age! Going to see someone sing and perform live is just incredible. I hope this interests you fans in seeing him live. You will have one of the best nights of your life at a Justin Bieber concert!

The show was fantastic. Great sound, amazing lighting, talented musicians and dancers... even dazzling fireworks.

However, the main character was not up to the show's standards.

Bieber did not engage with his audience, did not smile once, did not put his heart in it.

Screaming girls didn't notice that the object of their desire hardly sang... since they wet the ones singing each song by heart.

His younger fans don't care if he shows that he doesn't enjoy his chosen line of work. Parents who ent with them think he should respect his public.

If he is bored, he should study to be something else.

On the other hand, the organization was pitiful. The guys showing people around did not know their way around. According to one of them a friend's row "did not exist", and to another, mine "was nowhere tocbe found". People were standing on the limpy chairs which made it hard for smaller children to watch the concert.

In short, I would have rather stay home, and the show had no passion, but my kid's enthusiasm was worth it.

Really disappointed in this show, we paid in excess of £700 for 4 tickets to take my two daughters to their first ever concert and I was disgusted how Justin spoke to his fans and threw his mic on the floor and stormed off stage!

I've seen Adele and Coldplay this year who were both very down to earth, humble and appreciated their fans by the bucket load. Justin ought to take some tips from these far superior artists on how to work a crowd and show gratitude.

Also not very impressed that Justin mimed to around 80% of the show, not even attempting to disguise the fact by being bothered to hold his mic to his mouth, as he's not a very energetic dancer out of breath most of the time I didn't see any reason for him to mime so much, the only thing I did notice was him floating around the stage on his massive ego the whole evening.

I won't even be able to listen to his music after this.

He really doesn't deserve his fans.

Sunday, October 2nd I went to the Purpose World Tour Copenhagen in Telia Parken.

I went to the show with my best friend and we had a really good time.

When we arrived to Telia Parken, there was so many Beliebers, it was incredible. Well, we waited in line for the doors to open, and when the doors opened we went inside the Telia Parken. The stadium was huge. There was so many people in there.

After the most people found their seats, the opening band came on. It was a band from UK/Liverpool, they were called Mic Lowkey.

After a while the show finally started. Justin opened his show with his first song from his Purpose Album, Mark My Words. The audience were so turned up - when you looked over the stadium, there were lights from phones everywhere, it looked like stars, it was so beautiful.

Well the show was incredible, Justin was in a good mood and the audience was awesome. So the show was amazing.

Justin and Hailey Bieber have been married since September 2018. Since then, a lot of people have always doubted their marriage, especially since the former bad boy admitted that they dealt with "a lack of trust" at the beginning.

There were even speculations that Justin only married the Baldwin "nepo baby" for US residency. But through it all — from the Selena Gomez drama to the pop star's rare illness — the couple has stayed by each other's side, proving that they truly love each other.

Recently, a clip from their Instagram Live resurfaced and set red flag alerts among fans. In the video, Justin was visibly annoyed at Hailey answering a follower's question about his Lyme disease and postponed tours. Here's what really happened back there.

What Has Justin Bieber Said About His Lyme Disease?

In January 2020, Justin opened up about his battle with Lyme disease on Instagram. "It's been a rough couple years," he wrote in a now-deleted post. He then acknowledged the comments that he looked like he was on drugs.

"They failed to realize I've been recently diagnosed with Lyme disease," he said, "not only that but had a serious case of chronic mono which affected my skin, brain function, energy, and overall health."

A month later, he shared more details about his diagnosis during The Dark Season episode of his YouTube series, Seasons . "Basically, infections have played a big part in my acne and in overall toxins in my body, which creates all this stuff so it feels good now to know why I feel so crappy all the time," he said of his symptoms.

He also assured fans that he's "committed to getting better" and "to doing whatever I have to do, whether it's inconvenient or not, because I know ultimately it's not only for me."

"But being the best me is gonna help me be the best husband, the best father, the best friend that I can possibly be," he continued. "And for all the fans that want to enjoy the music that I make. I can't do it if I'm not healthy – and I haven't been healthy for a long time."

What Did Hailey Bieber Say About Justin Bieber's Lyme Disease?

During an Instagram Live where the Biebers answered some fan questions, Hailey spoke about her husband's illness, which he didn't seem to like. "It sucks that the tour was -- [canceled]," the model said before Justin cut her off saying, "She [the fan] was asking me."

Hailey didn't get it at first. Once she did, the two just laughed it off, which many thought was awkward. "It's my Lyme disease," said the Baby hitmaker who clarified that he was the one being asked if he's "scared" of his disease because "I'm the one who has it," he emphasized.

After asking if his wife is worried about his disease, The Superga global ambassador said yes and that she'd been going with Justin to all his doctor appointments "for months."

"Of course your wife is worried about your Lyme disease. 🙄," wrote a commenter, with another saying: "If he's like this in front of the world imagine what he's like behind closed doors 🤜."

Others also brought up that rumor of how Hailey ended up marrying Justin. "Imagine stalking, having your friends coordinate hotels and vacations and breaking up a relationship to get a man that end up treating you like trash 🤡 play stupid games win stupid prize," one said.

Will Justin Bieber Ever Go Back On Tour?

In October 2022, Justin announced that his Justice World Tour has "ended" until March 2023. "All remaining dates of his world tour postponed to next year," said a statement released on the @JusticeTour Instagram account. "Potential new dates will be subject to venue and date availability."

Early that year, the Sorry performer revealed that he was diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which has caused facial paralysis caught in his viral video. After resuming his shows in July, he revealed that it's taken a toll on his health.

"After resting and consulting with my doctors, family and team, I went to Europe in an effort to continue the tour," he said. I performed six live shows, but it really took a real toll on me."

After his Rock in Rio set in Brazil, "the exhaustion overtook me and I realized that I need to make my health the priority right now," said the music artist. "So I'm going to take a break from touring for the time being. I'm going to be ok, but I need time to rest and get better."

In March 2023, Justin canceled the rest of his tour dates and issued refunds to his fans. "I need to make my health the priority right no," he wrote on his Instagram Story at that time. "I'm going to take a break from touring for the time being."

Justin Bieber ‘s “Justice” world tour has come to an abrupt end.

After several postponements , the singer and his team have seemingly called off the remaining shows of the tour’s European leg and more, including the June 2024 shows scheduled for the Kia Forum in Inglewood. The Utilita Arena Sheffield in the U.K., one of the upcoming stops on Bieber’s tour, announced on Tuesday that “the show has been cancelled.”

Fans on Twitter shared screenshots from ticket sales platforms AXS and Ticketmaster announcing that their upcoming events have been canceled as well.

Justin Bieber postpones tour after syndrome leaves his face partially paralyzed

Pop musician Justin Bieber announced Friday that he is taking a hiatus after Ramsay Hunt syndrome has caused partial facial paralysis.

June 10, 2022

“We regret to inform you that the Justin Bieber shows planned to take place at The O2 arena have been cancelled,” according to a screenshot of an email from the London venue that was shared in a tweet . “We understand you will be disappointed and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause,” the email continued.

Additionally, the Ticketmaster website listed a majority of shows, including those at the Tauron Arena in Krakow, Poland, and the AO Arena in Manchester, Great Britain, as canceled. Several of Bieber’s 2024 shows are also listed as canceled.

Representatives for Bieber did not immediately respond to The Times’ request for confirmation on Tuesday.

Justin Bieber to resume world tour after partial facial paralysis

Last month, singer Justin Bieber postponed his Justice world tour after becoming infected with a virus that caused his face to be partially paralyzed.

July 19, 2022

The “Justice” tour cancellation comes months after Bieber, 28, announced that he would take a break from touring in September . The singer said in a post to his Instagram story that calling off future shows would allow him to focus on himself.

“After getting off stage, the exhaustion overtook me and I realized that I need to make my health the priority right now,” the “Peaches” singer said in a statement a day after performing at the Rock in Rio in Rio de Janeiro.

He continued: “So I’m going to take a break from touring for the time being. I’m going to be ok, but I need time to rest and get better.”

Bieber first postponed his tour in June 2022 after sharing with fans that he was diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, a virus that has caused partial facial paralysis.

“As you can see, this eye is not blinking. I can’t smile in this side of my face. This nostril will not move,” Bieber said in an Instagram video. “So there’s full paralysis on this side of my face.”

The Mayo Clinic said Ramsay Hunt occurs in people who have had chickenpox and is a shingles outbreak that affects a nerve near one ear and causes one-sided paralysis and hearing loss. It’s most common in people older than 60.

Justin Bieber previously postponed his tour in June after revealing his Ramsay Hunt syndrome diagnosis. He resumed live performances in July.

“So for those who are frustrated by my cancellations of the next shows, I’m just physically, obviously not capable of doing them,” Bieber said in his June video. “This is pretty serious, as you can see. I wish this wasn’t the case, but obviously my body is telling me I gotta slow down.”

"I'm going to be OK, but I need time to rest and get better."

On Tuesday, the Grammy winner told fans in a statement posted on his Instagram story that he was scrapping his remaining tour dates.

Justin Bieber’s face paralyzed after Ramsay Hunt diagnosis

Ramsay Hunt syndrome is caused by the chickenpox virus, which continues to lay dormant in a person after initial infection and can reactivate as a shingles rash, according to the Mayo Clinic . The syndrome is caused when a shingles rash, which can be painful, breaks out near one's ear. It can trigger facial paralysis and hearing loss.

Bieber restarted his tour the following month, performing at Italy's Lucca Summer festival.

In his statement on Tuesday, he said he had put everything he had into continuing the tour.

"After resting and consulting with my doctors, family and team, I went to Europe in an effort to continue with the tour. I performed six live shows, but it took a real toll on me," he wrote. "This past weekend, I performed at Rock in Rio and I gave everything I have to the people in Brazil. After getting off stage, the exhaustion overtook me."

Bieber said he knew in that moment that he had to "make my health the priority."

"I'm going to take a break from touring for the time being," he wrote, adding that he would "be okay, but I need time to rest and get better."

The singer then thanked his fans for their support. "Thank you for your prayers and support throughout all of this," he concluded.

This is the latest tour Bieber was forced to end early. He previously was forced to reschedule his Changes Tour due to the COVID-19 pandemic and canceled his 2017 Purpose World Tour due to "unforeseen circumstances."

Justin Bieber welcomes first baby with wife Hailey: ‘Welcome home’

Justin and Hailey Bieber have taken to Instagram to share the joyful news of a new baby. Photo / @justinbieber

Justin and Hailey Bieber have welcomed home their first baby - and it’s a boy.

The pop star took to Instagram to share the news this afternoon, with a photo of the baby’s foot peeking out of a fluffy blanket.

In the caption, the 30-year-old revealed his new child’s name: “Welcome home Jack Blues Bieber,” it said with a bear emoji.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Justin Bieber (@justinbieber)

Within 30 minutes of posting the joyful news, the post has racked up around 2.5 million likes and more than 172,000 comments offering congratulations.

Hailey didn’t publicly announce her pregnancy until May when she was already six months pregnant.

Posting a short captionless video to Instagram on May 10, Hailey was seen dressed in a lace skin-tight gown as the pair appeared to renew their vows. The camera then zoomed in on Hailey’s belly and revealed a baby bump.

Other images in the carousel showed Hailey posing in a lace white dress, showing off her bump as Justin took a photo of her.

While the pair had spoken multiple times about their intentions of starting a family together, Hailey had also been candid about her reservations.

Speaking to the Sunday Times ’ Style magazine last year, the daughter of Stephen and Kennya Baldwin confessed: “I want kids so bad but I get scared. It’s enough that people say things about my husband or my friends. I can’t imagine having to confront people saying things about a child.

She added: “We can only do the best we can to raise them. As long as they feel loved and safe.”

The happy news comes after Bieber cancelled his remaining Justice World Tour dates in March - including his New Zealand show - as he continued to recover from a diagnosis with Ramsay Hunt syndrome.

Last year , the Ghost singer took to Instagram to share his experience of the condition.

“It is from this virus that attacks the nerve in my ear and my facial nerves and has caused my face to have paralysis.

“As you can see, this eye is not blinking. I can’t smile on this side of my face. This nostril will not move.”

“This is pretty serious, as you can see,” Bieber said.

48 hours with Usher: Concert preparation, family time and what's next for the R&B icon

Usher bares all as he launches his past present future tour, in an exclusive series of conversations with usa today: "i always felt like i had to prove myself and earn my keep.".

Usher's 48 hours in Atlanta: The singer and R&B icon takes USA TODAY along as he prepares for his Past Present Future tour.

ATLANTA – It's raining on Usher .

Not the "making it rain" or "getting rained on" that happens in clubs and songs – water is literally streaming down from the ceiling onto Usher's lap.

We're in the midst of discussing his career sacrifices when he leaps up from the couch in his dressing room at State Farm Arena. The flood gates (or rather, the sprinklers placed directly above where he's sitting just so on the deep, gray sofa) have opened.

"First time for that," he says, running to grab a towel as I grab three cups from atop the credenza, frantically trying to catch the tinged water.

When it rains it pours, and the 45-year-old singer knows how to make the most of a deluge.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

Look at the past two years – called the Usherssance by fans – as the latest era of success in a 30-year career. There are the viral moments from his Las Vegas residencies that catapulted him back into the conversation after the pandemic lockdowns. The NPR Tiny Desk performance reminded fans of their admiration for his music. He dazzled during his Super Bowl 58 halftime show , complete with skates, abs and famous friends . He got married at a Vegas chapel , dropped his ninth album , impressed at the Met Gala , accepted BET Awards honors and announced a concert film shot last fall in Paris.

Now, Usher is preparing to embark on his Past Present Future tour, a 58-show undertaking originally scheduled to kickoff in his hometown of Atlanta.

But the leaking sprinkler isn't the only issue seeping through. Hushed tones – that Usher is in pain, the rehearsals are running late, the dancers need time to recuperate – mark the days leading up to the planned first concert. Hours before showtime, Usher releases a statement postponing it to "give my body a second to rest and heal." The next day, he postpones the rest of the Atlanta opening shows due to a neck injury . Usher knows the setback is a storm that will pass, and he'll reunite with fans in top form, which he does in Washington, D.C., a week later.

Watch our video interview with Usher on parenthood, fresh talent and his new tour. Story continues below video.

"I feel like I've made so many sacrifices throughout my entire life and career that I don't regret, but now I can be very, very specific about what I want to curate, and I'll be true to it," he tells USA TODAY in an exclusive series of conversations.

How Usher prepares to perform: Workout routine, rehearsals and fasting on Wednesdays

Those decisions "offered me knowledge, they offered me wisdom, they offered me success. I gave my attention and time to music and what I was creating. And as a result of that, I lost a lot of people that are no longer here, and I wish I had spent more time with them.

"There are certain things that I really would have loved to have been able to see and experience – but didn't because I had something else to do – meaning birthdays or benchmarks or moments where other people who I really admired had accolades."

'Oh, I'm ruined': Usher talks Super Bowl show, reveals most 'personal' song on new album

Now, he wants to be there for everyone, saying yes to as much as he can, which often translates to limited rest and sleep.

During the little he does manage to get, Usher thinks he slept wrong on his neck. It's two days before the tour, and his holistic wellness therapist applies pressure to his upper body while he does a virtual vocal lesson. Usher reaches for the keyboard in front of him, eyes closed, voice undulating through the scales. He winces as she grabs his shoulder. "That's it right there," Usher says.

Nick Cooper, Usher's vocal coach, chimes in via video call. "Keep breathing, champ," he urges as the therapist kneads Usher's neck. "Dig in there, champ."

"Paintball wasn't such a great idea, man," Usher says to no one in particular. The singer, his family and some of the tour crew went paintballing as a bonding activity. "I'll be alright tomorrow."

But he's not. At least not in the way fans have come to know him.

Usher still feels the 'passion' to prove himself

Usher's professional rise began at 15 with his self-titled debut album and continued with 1997's "My Way," which revolutionized the R&B slow jam with "Nice & Slow" and "You Make Me Wanna ...," plus the Frank Sinatra-inspired title track. Then 2001's "8701" provided a trio of "U" hits: "U Don't Have to Call," "U Remind Me" and "U Got It Bad."

His "Confessions" album, which just celebrated its 20th anniversary, was his biggest chart success and spawned enduring hits still heard at clubs, weddings and events, including "Yeah!," "Confessions Part II," "Burn," and "My Boo."

He's created across genres, dipping into EDM with the likes of David Guetta and Marshmello or Latin genres with J Balvín and Romeo Santos, before swinging toward Afrobeats with Burna Boy and K-pop with Jung Kook on his latest record. Usher has sung alongside everyone from Beyoncé to H.E.R. – oh, and he helped discover Justin Bieber .

"I think I always have done this for a passion, but that passion turned into a competitive exercise, where I felt like I had to work hard in order to be recognized, because I didn't actually just get it," he says. "Sure I had skill, sure I had a hit record, sure I had a record company to stand behind me and pay money to promote and market and build my brand. But I always felt like I had to prove myself and earn my keep."

The underdog mentality shines through, even for an industry veteran.

"Usher edited the Vegas show all the way to the last day," says wife Jenn Raymond. "He never stops."

Earlier that day, in oversized charcoal overalls and an apropos "U" chain , Jenn joins their youngest kids Sovereign, 3, and Sire, 2, in a game of "red light, green light" as Usher does a fitting. Heavy little footsteps echo across the wood floors and delighted children's voices ring out in an otherwise muted studio. He eventually joins the game, listening intently to his daughter's instructions.

Usher has two more children, sons with ex Tameka Foster named Usher "Cinco" Raymond V, 16, and Naviyd, 15. Crafting a tour, like parenting, becomes about controlled chaos, logistics, interruptions and decisions. His kids keep him in the moment, and he says "their schedule is probably more hectic than mine."

"Today was Naviyd's first day of school, he's a sophomore, (and) … Sovereign's first day of preschool. I'm going to tell the truth: I didn't see them off this morning, but I saw them when they came home. I picked Sovereign up from school, and I just didn't want to miss that moment for her."

He sees himself as "no different than any other parent. I just have a kind of big thing going on at the same time. … It just becomes a bit complicated to balance all of it."

As present as he tries to be, Usher's also thinking about the future.

"My range and how I approach singing has changed so that I can accommodate what I'm trying to do as a vocalist," he says. "I was trying my hardest to think about the long-term goal. Do I want to be able to sing when I'm in my 60s and 70s? I'd like to. That doesn't mean that's going to be the only thing that I do, but I'd like to have that as an option to sing for my grandkids."

Usher can wield his sex-symbol status and his sensitivity

Usher is shirtless for the first of many times to come on this tour.

It happens for a quiet moment as he slips in and out of potential outfits for a photo shoot promoting an upcoming project, but the signature abs are still there.

While Usher's time in the spotlight has been defined by his heartbreak ballads, it's equally distinguished by his sex-symbol status. He'll bare his chest while baring his soul. He's a heat-seeking missile for love, lust, seduction, romance, toxicity, truth.

His candidness has gotten him this far. Usher Raymond IV didn't have a close relationship with his father, Usher Raymond III, a fact he poured out during his BET Awards Lifetime Achievement Award speech and which he incorporates into the tour visuals. He's belted his "Confessions" about relationships and himself for the world to hear. Even when fans fell off in a mid-2010s career slump and his personal life was in turmoil (he divorced ex-wife Grace Miguel in 2018), he took time off and then "decided to go to Las Vegas to just remind myself what I do": entertain.

"I think somewhere along the lines, I got caught up in trying to be No. 1, and being No. 1 was more important than just being passionate," he says. "It wasn't until I got back to just being passionate that this (recent success) has happened."

'My 7 o'clock on the dot has changed': Usher talks new single 'Good Good,' Vegas residency

Curate and connect: The future of Usher

It's not 7 'o clock on the dot , and we're not in a drop top cruising the streets . But it's a little after 3 p.m. and I'm riding shotgun as Usher drives his wife, publicist and me to the arena. While driving, as any budding elder would, Usher can't help but comment on how fast the city is transforming. He's contributing to the development.

"It's about roughly 40 acres of unoccupied space that before was like parking. But there's a theater that I'm going to build right here" with Live Nation he says, pointing to The Gulch, just across from the arena and Mercedes Benz Stadium. The planned 5,000-seat venue will allow Usher "a chance to host and have residency plays here. Artists can have residency here. The idea is to create a landmark and a state-of-the-art theater," bringing in architecture, design and technology ideas from London, Paris, Berlin, Vegas and more.

"I played the Super Bowl, but believe it or not, there's probably still people who don't know my name and don't know me," he says. "So for that experience and that person who I want to offer something, maybe I have to take a different approach. Maybe it's not music that makes that connection. Maybe I can curate a different type of experience."

He talks animatedly about the future, pondering an EGOT (rarified air of Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony award wins); he's acted in movies including 2005's "In the Mix" and 2016's "Hands of Stone," and made his Broadway debut in "Chicago" in 2006.

He'd love to act and produce TV shows or movies – moves that demand creativity and courage for success.

"I don't like limits, and I think I've lived my life within limits and bounds for so long that I just want to break all the boundaries and go back and reimagine some of the things, because I didn't get a chance to share it," he says.

Usher's youthful drive and shrewd eye combine for a tour like none he's done before

Everyone agrees: Usher would be here all night if it were entirely up to him. Tinkering, perfecting, adjusting.

"He definitely has the drive as if he was 19 years old," says Shawn "Shizz" Porter, Usher's longtime friend and barber of 21 years.

The Essentials: As Usher prepares for Super Bowl halftime show, here are his must-haves

It's 9:44 p.m. on the Monday before tour was set to begin, and Usher rehearses with his dancers backstage on the Atlanta Hawks practice court to "Good Kisser," a short interpolation of Aaliyah's "Rock the Boat" swaying in. He's flipping the dancers up and down, dipping them low, lifting them up, doing the footwork he's known for.

By the next night, Usher is in such pain that he can't participate in the final dress rehearsal. His creative director Aakomon Jones serves as his stand-in on stage. A handler walks his goldendoodle, Scarlett, down the arena floor. Usher and Jenn are perched in the stands; his arms are folded. He sits next to a team member with a laptop, hand on his face, taking in the scene on stage.

He doesn't bob his head, he doesn't mouth the lyrics. He just watches, brow slightly furrowed. He's analyzing.

"I'm very mindful of the standards between white and Black artists, or artists who are young and come from a very specific culture, and then that culture became relevant in time. So the people who were gatekeeping to not allow certain cultural experiences in, or not allow certain regions of people to be recognized, as time went on, I naturally … I guess I became more relevant," he says. "Now I'm kind of living out in real time what I think of and what I dream of, the way I see things."

Despite a tempestuous lead-up to the tour, Usher is ready for this moment. His technologically advanced production takes fans through past, present and future – all looking bright.

Justin Bieber’s Ups and Downs Through the Years: Relationship Drama, Health Issues and More

Justin Bieber s Ups and Downs Through the Years 312 Feature

Justin Bieber has faced his fair share of hardships since skyrocketing to fame after being discovered by Scooter Braun in 2007.

Upon breaking onto the scene with his debut album, My World 2.0 , the two-time Grammy winner was beloved by the world over for his boyish charm, famous hair “swoop” and age-appropriate love songs.

However, in the years that followed, Bieber’s partying ways became the subject of much scrutiny and worry — from his fans, parents and Braun himself.

“I was worried every night that I was going to lose him. I thought he was going to die ,” Braun shared on “The Red Pill” podcast in 2018. “I thought he was going to sleep one night and that he would have so much crap in his system that he would not wake up the next morning.”

Bieber’s romantic life also made frequent headlines — namely, his high-profile romances with Selena Gomez and future wife Hailey Bieber .

Shooting to Fame

Braun discovered Justin on YouTube when the singer was just a young teen in the early 2000s. The “Baby” singer released his debut album, My World 2.0 , in 2010 following his My World EP. The record ultimately went 4x platinum.

N-Word Scandal

In 2014, Justin dealt with two racism scandals in one week. In the videos shared online, one clip showed the singer telling a racist joke five years prior, while the other piece of footage featured a young Justin singing a racist parody of his song “One Less Lonely Girl.” The parody replaced “girl” with the N-word and made references to the KKK.

“I’m very sorry,” Justin said in a statement to the Associated Press at the time. “I take all my friendships with people of all cultures very seriously and I apologize for offending or hurting anyone with my childish and inexcusable behavior.”

He added: “I thought it was ok to repeat hurtful words and jokes, but I didn’t realize at the time that it wasn’t funny and that in fact my actions were continuing the ignorance. Thanks to friends and family I learned from my mistakes and grew up and apologized for those wrongs. Now that these mistakes from the past have become public I need to apologize again to all of those who I have offended.”

Substance abuse issues.

In his 2020 documentary, Justin Bieber: Seasons , the Canada native got real about his struggles with substance abuse .

“My security and stuff would come into my room at night to check my pulse. People don’t know how serious it got. It was legit crazy scary,” he recalled. “I was waking up in the morning and the first thing I was doing was popping pills and smoking a blunt and starting my day. It just got scary. I basically said to myself, I’m like, ‘God, if you’re real, you get me through this season of stopping these pills and stuff, and if you do, I’ll do the rest of the work.'”

Justin and his mom, Pattie Mallette — who was just a teen when she gave birth to her only son in March 1994 — were always extremely close. However, their relationship soured as Justin struggled with drugs.

“I was distant because I was ashamed,” he later reflected to Billboard in 2015 about his relationship with his mom . “We spent some time not talking, so it takes time to rebuild that trust. She’s living in Hawaii now, so it’s hard, but getting better. She’s an amazing woman and I love her.”

Justin Bieber s Ups and Downs Through the Years 313 Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez Relationship

Justin and Gomez went public with their romance at the 2011 Vanity Fair Oscars party, breaking up for the first time one year later. As the duo continued to be on and off over the next several years — with both stars dating other A-listers in their “off” periods — they ultimately called it quits for good in 2018, several months before Justin proposed to Hailey.

Hailey Bieber Marriage

The future couple initially met in 2008 after being introduced by Hailey’s dad, actor Stephen Baldwin . While Justin and Hailey became friends — and on and off romantic partners — in the years following, the “What Do You Mean?” artist got real about not wanting to hurt the model while he focused on himself.

“What if Hailey ends up being the girl I’m gonna marry, right? If I rush into anything, if I damage her, then it’s always gonna be damaged,” Justin told GQ in 2016. “It’s really hard to fix wounds like that. It’s so hard. … I just don’t want to hurt her.”

Two years later — after his final split from Gomez — Justin and Hailey tied the knot in a courthouse ceremony in New York City. In 2019, they threw a larger ceremony attended by their families and friends.

Health Problems

Justin got real about his battle with Lyme disease in 2020.

“While a lot of people kept saying Justin Bieber looks like s—t, on meth etc. they failed to realize I’ve been recently diagnosed with Lyme disease, not only that but had a serious case of chronic mono which affected my, skin, brain function, energy, and overall health,” he wrote via Instagram at the time.

Two years later, Justin canceled his tour dates amid another health scare — this time: Ramsay Hunt Syndrome .

“It is from this virus that attacks the nerve in my ear and my facial nerves and has caused my face to have paralysis,” Justin said in an Instagram video at the time, showing his followers that he couldn’t move half of his face. “As you can see this eye is not blinking. I can’t smile on this side of my face. This nostril will not move.”

As for his canceled concert dates, “I’m just physically not capable of doing them,” Justin noted. “This is pretty serious as you can see. I wish this wasn’t the case. But obviously, my body is telling me I need to slow down.”

Dropping scooter as his manager.

In August 2023, a source exclusively told Us Weekly that Justin “officially let Scooter go as his manager” amid reports that Demi Lovato and Ariana Grande also parted ways with the music executive.

The insider added that it was Hailey who “led the charge that led Justin to leave him for another manager.”

A separate insider, however, told Us one day prior that “ all of Scooter Braun’s clients are under contract and negotiations have been going on for several months as Scooter steps into his larger role as Hybe America CEO.” The source elaborated: “People are spreading rumors based on what they know, but they are off. Scooter’s team at SB Projects are still handling both Justin and Ariana as they work through what this new structure looks like.”

The tour will help raise awareness about criminal justice reform, climate action and voter registration on the massive outing that will hit 20 countries on five continents by pairing with a number of social justice organizations while encouraging Beliebers to do their part. On each night there will be local action opportunities curated by Live Free in support of criminal justice reform at the local level, with fans getting the chance to win free concert tickets by participating in live trainings in select cities.

While encouraging Beliebers to follow impactful organizations on social media, volunteer and donate, through the Generosity Foundation, Bieber will also provide information each night on transforming criminal justice with help from the REFORM Alliance and fighting climate change via the National Resources Defense Council. According to the release, the more actions a fan completes, the more they increase their chances of wining tickets.

“Justin’s goal by the end of the Justice World Tour is to inspire millions of individual actions, help connect his fans to important causes, and provide participating groups with a new foundation of supporters, all while registering voters and raising awareness and funds for critical local and national justice efforts,” according to the statement.

The singer has also teamed up with Propeller to provide more incentive to take action, with the social action company offering fans the chance on every night of the tour to win a VIP ticket upgrade to watch the show from “one of the best spots in the house.” Global fans will also be able to enter a chance to win a trip to Paris to meet Justin during his March 6 Accor Arena gig in 2023.

Justin Bieber ‘s 2010 hit “Baby” ft. Ludacris has officially joined Spotify’s Billion Streams club. The achievement extends the Canadian pop star’s record as the artist with the most songs over 1 billion streams in Spotify’s history.

The lead single from Bieber’s debut studio album My World 2.0 , “Baby was written by Bieber, Ludacris, Christina Milian, Tricky Stewart and The-Dream. When it debuted at No. 5, it became Bieber’s highest-charting single in the US ever; today, it’s certified Platinum 12 times over by the RIAA.

Among the biggest YouTube stars of all time, Bieber’s origin story involves Scooter Braun spotting a home video Bieber uploaded on the site in 2007, then signing him to a major label a year later. The “Baby” music video, which features cameos from Drake, Tinashe, and more, has garnered over three billion views on YouTube.

Justin Bieber - Baby ft. Ludacris

When “Baby” first released, Ludacris, who met Bieber in 2009 in Atlanta, emphasized in an interview with MTV News that the singer wasn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

“When I first met Justin, man, I felt like he’s definitely a little shy at first,” Ludacris said. “I understand. I’m kind of the same way till I get comfortable with my surroundings, and then it’s just all out, just wild. Oh man, his career is just starting. When I tell you the longevity — he’s out of here.”

Bieber shared his most recent album, Justice , in 2021. In addition to the Billboard No. 1 hit “Peaches” with Daniel Caesar, the record also featured Khalid, Chance the Rapper, The Kid LAROI, Dominic Fike, and more. Bieber cancelled a planned world tour of the album in late 2022 after revealing a diagnosis of Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which caused him to experience intermittent partial facial paralysis. Earlier this year, he and his wife, the model Hailey Bieber, announced that they’re expecting their first child. The pair have been in a relationship since 2016.
