The Diplomats, otherwise known as Dipset, is an American hip hop supergroup, formed by Cam'ron and Jim Jones in 1997, hailing from Harlem, New York City, U.S.

Originally comprised of Cam’ron, Jim Jones and Freekey Zekey, followed by Juelz Santana in 1999, all members are Harlem natives, and made their recording debut on Cam’ron’s “S.D.E” album in 2000. After Cam’ron signed with Def Jam and Jay-Z’s Roc-A-Fella Records in 2001, The Diplomats inked a record deal as well and began to craft their debut album. “Diplomatic Immunity” arrived in March 2003 just after the release of Cam’ron's hugely popular album “Come Home With Me”, which earned the group a significant amount of exposure. The Diplomats’ debut features production from Kanye West, Just Blaze and Heatmakerz, debuted at No. Eight on the Billboard 200, and has been described as a classic by some music periodicals.

Following a falling-out between Cam’ron and Jay-Z, the Diplomats severed ties with Roc-A-Fella and signed with the independent label Koch Records in 2004. The supergroup’s sophomore album “Diplomatic Immunity 2” was issued by Koch in November 2004, which despite earning more favourable reviews than their debut, peaked at only No. 46 on the Billboard 200. The album marked the arrival of new members Hell Rell, 40 Cal., and J.R. Writer, however before long rifts and strifes spread among the group. From the tail-end of 2007 The Diplomats went on a hiatus and members created their own groups, with 40 Cal forming Skeme Team, Freekey Zekey forming 730 Dips, Jim Jones starting ByrdGang, Juelz Santana forming Skull Gang and Cam’ron founding The U.N. (Us Now).

In 2010 the hiatus was brought to an end with Cam’ron and Jim Jones announcing they had come to terms with one another. The group returned with the street single “Salute”, and after much speculation, in 2011, signed a record deal with Interscope Records. To celebrate 10 years since their debut the group performed an anniversary concert in New York in March 2013, and released the Just Blaze and A-Trak produced single “Dipshits” in 2014.

Live reviews

As hit and miss as live Hip-Hop can be from time to time, when it hits, it hits harder than pretty much any other kind of music that can be called mainstream these days. In a way this makes a lot of sense. It is music that, in most cases, is extremely informed by the personality of the performer in question. With that in mind, what better way of seeing that personality in full flight is there than having them backed by nothing but turntables and another rapper to play off for a whole evening? The absolute masters of this are The Diplomats, the Harlem based rap collective formed by Cam’ron and Jim Jones in 1997. They were then joined soon after by a myriad of artists, but it was Juelz Santana and Freekey Zekey that became full time band members. It’s this quartet that reformed in 2010, performing thunderous live shows alongside everyone from new blood who were teenagers when 2003’s classic album Diplomatic Immunity came out like Waka Flocka Flame, all the way through to the true pioneers of the genre shown by a recent concert supporting the Wu-Tang Clan. It’s fast, loud, raw and utterly exhilarating from start to finish, absolutely what you’d expect from a good gig and with the pedigree that The Diplomats come with, you can be sure you’ll get the absolute best show you can out of it. Highly recommended.

The Diplomats also known more popularly and universally as DipSets are a hip hop quartet from Harlem with one particularly prolific member, Cam'Ron at the centre of the operation. The lineup has changed since their formation in the late 90s and creative disputes got in the way over the years yet now the original members are recording once again and the fans have come spilling back inside venues to watch the group perform.

There is definitely a revived energy and the four rappers onstage all have a total respect for each other and their own discographies and when they bring it all together it just works fantastically. The thumping bass pulsates and permeates the floor and keeps the audience moving throughout the show yet they are completely onside with this show so energy is no real issue tonight. They attempt to rap along with the men onstage yet the speeds often leave them left behind so the compensation is to applaud like crazy at the finale of each track. It moves along at such a pace because the show has clearly been thought about that the finale arrives pretty abruptly much to the distain of the fans yet they cannot doubt they have had a brilliant time.

Rapper Juelz Santana out on bail and can tour (as long as mom comes)

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Rapper Juelz Santana can go on tour while he's facing weapons charges, providing he's monitored by an electronic ankle bracelet ... and mom.

A federal judge on Friday modified the bail conditions for Santana, whose real name is LaRon James, to allow him to play the first five shows of his upcoming 15-city nationwide tour.

Among the conditions: that Santana's mother accompanies him on the trips, that he drives instead of flies and that they don't travel with other members of the tour.

In court Friday, Santana told the judge that his mother, who wasn't in attendance, had consented to join him on the tour.

Santana will be back in court next month for a review of "how things went" and to discuss whether he can play other shows, U.S. District Judge Michael Hammer said.

"I view it as a reasonable and productive exercise of his time to work and provide for his family," Hammer said. Prosecutors had opposed changing the bail conditions.

Santana has pleaded not guilty to charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and carrying a weapon on an aircraft. He faces up to 20 years in prison.

Authorities say Newark Liberty International Airport security on March 9 found a loaded .38-caliber handgun and non-prescribed oxycodone pills in a carry-on bag containing Santana's identification. He has been free on $500,000 bail and living with his mother and brother.

"I just want to say thank you to the judge," he said as he left the courtroom.

The shows in question are in Hampton, New Hampshire; Norfolk, Virginia; Baltimore, and Charlotte and Greensboro, North Carolina.

"We're pleased he'll be able to work and he'll be able to demonstrate to the court his continued responsibility as a performer and as a person under pre-trial supervision," Santana's attorney, Brian Neary, said.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Desiree Latzer argued Friday that Santana had been en route to a show when he was arrested and that he could easily carry a gun with him in a car. She also noted that other performers on the tour have prior weapons arrests and that the electronic ankle bracelet can monitor where Santana is but not what he's doing.

"It's a very long leash," she said.

Citing prior domestic violence issues, Hammer delayed ruling on Santana's motion to be allowed to return his home in Totowa, New Jersey, with his girlfriend and children. Santana pleaded guilty to making a terroristic threat to commit a crime of violence in 2011 after an incident during which he also was charged with violating a restraining order.

A trial date hasn't been set.
