Tourists visas now being issued for Abu Dhabi

  • September 24, 2020
  • By Yalla Editors

The emirate is one of five emirates that can now welcome tourists back.

The UAE’s The National news agency has reported that the country’s federal immigration service has said that tourists are now able to get visas to travel to Abu Dhabi, along with the rest of the UAE from today (24 September).

This will be the first time that tourists are allowed back in Abu Dhabi for the first time since March 2020.

The report in The National went on to say that …”The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) had said that the move would “support recovery plans of the country’s tourism sector and economy”.”

The move comes as Abu Dhabi and the UAE is trying to boost international tourism to the country.

What is UID number in UAE? How to Check your UID Number

The UAE uses a unique ID system to keep track of residents. This ID number, called a UID number, is like a social security number, but you get it when you first enter the UAE with a visa.

Here's the important facts:

Universal Identifier:  Your UID number stays with you your entire time in the UAE, even if you change jobs or visa types.

Centralized Linkage:  The government uses your UID number to link all your official stuff, like visa applications, residence permits, and your Emirates ID card.

Government Oversight:  The UID system is run by two government agencies: GDRFA (deals with visas and residency) and ICA (issues Emirates IDs).

UAE ID System: UID vs. Emirates ID Card

Don't confuse your UID number with your Emirates ID card

UID Number:  This is just a unique number the government uses internally.

Emirates ID Card:  This is a physical card you carry as proof of your residency in the UAE.

Your Unique UAE ID: What You Need to Know

The UAE uses a unique ID system to track residents. This ID number is called a UID, and you get it automatically when you first enter the UAE with a visa that allows you to stay long-term (like a work visa or family visa). Here's how it works:

Arrive in the UAE:  When you enter the UAE with your visa, immigration officials will create your UID number as part of your entry paperwork. It's like a social security number, but you get it upon arrival.

Medical Tests & Emirates ID:  After entering, you'll do some medical tests and apply for your Emirates ID card (which proves you're a resident). Your UID number gets linked to all these applications.

Look for Your UID:  Once your visa is stamped in your passport, you'll see your UID number printed right there on the visa page. This same number will be used for all your official UAE staff.

Emirates ID Card:  Your UID number will also be printed on your Emirates ID card, which is like your official UAE ID you'll use for many things.

Basically, you don't need to do anything special to get a UID number.

How to find your UID on Your Residence Visa

Here's how to find your UID on your visa:

Look Above the File Number: Your UID is usually printed right above the file number on your visa document (see th e picture, if there is one).

How to find your UID Online

If you can't find your visa or prefer to do it online, you can also find your UID number this way:

Visit this Website:   https://gdrfad.gov.ae/unified-number-inquiry-service

Fill in the Info:  Enter your passport number, nationality, date of birth, and gender.

Solve the Math Problem:  Show them you're not a robot by solving a simple math question.

Click Submit:  Voila! Your secret UAE number (UID) will be revealed.

Decoding Your UAE UID Number

Here's how to crack the code:

Emirate Code (First 3 Digits):  These digits reveal which Emirate issued your visa. For instance, Abu Dhabi starts with 101, Dubai with 201, Sharjah with 301, and Ajman with 401. (Note: Abu Dhabi and Sharjah visas might have a slash after these numbers.)

Year of Issue (Next 4 Digits):  This section tells you the year your visa was issued, keeping track of when you got your residency status.

Visa Number (Last 7-9 Digits):  This is the most important part for you! These final digits are actually your visa number, also called your residence number. This is the number you'll use most often on official UAE government forms.

So next time you look at your UAE visa, remember, the UID number is like a secret code telling the story of your residency!

Why Your UAE UID Number is Important

Your UID number makes things easier and more secure in many ways:

Dealing with the Government:  Need a permit or want to use healthcare services? Your UID number helps the process go smoothly and saves you time.

Renting an Apartment or Starting a Business:  Landlords and businesses use your UID number to verify your information quickly and securely, making transactions faster.

Living in the UAE, whether you've been there for years or just arrived, can involve some unique procedures. Understanding the UID number system is a key part of navigating everyday life in this exciting country!

Visit visa holders who overstay their permitted duration and break the rules cause travel agencies to incur fines and face operational challenges, travel executives have said.

According to the agencies, cases of visitors overstaying and absconding have compelled authorities to implement stricter entry regulations at Dubai Airports. When a case of an absconder is filed against a visitor, it results in financial and operational challenges for them.

No more grace period

One of the primary reasons for visitors overstaying is a misunderstanding on the visa grace period. “Many visitors believe they have a 10-day grace period to stay beyond their visa's expiry date. However, this grace period was removed last year, leading to unintentional overstays. They are in denial and we regularly inform them that there is no grace period,” said Firoz Maliyakkal, founder and CEO of Tahira Tours and Travels.

Sudden financial complications can also play a critical role. “Some visitors face unexpected financial difficulties during their stay, making it very difficult for them to return home on time,” said Libin Varghese from Rooh Travel and Tourism.

“Additionally, the charm of Dubai and the UAE's diverse attractions entices visitors to extend their stay and explore without considering the legal repercussions,” added Varghese.

Another common reason for absconding visitors is job hunting after being captivated by Dubai’s lifestyle. “Visitors, captivated by Dubai's opportunities, apply for jobs and wait for interview calls, neglecting their visa status. They often overstay hoping for employment, which places them in a legal situation,” said Firoz.

Delayed interview call

Bilal Abbas, who had arrived in Dubai in February to visit his relatives, recounted his experience. He said: “During my visit, I learned of a job opening in a friend's company. I decided to apply and surprisingly got called in for an interview. I was thrilled but completely forgot about my visa expiry date, just three days before the second interview.”

Despite overstaying for nearly 8 days, Abbas managed to secure a job. “I had to pay around Dh1,000 in fines when I exited the country. Fortunately, I obtained residency status on March 28 and returned to the UAE.”

Penalties for travel agent

According to travel agents, such actions have severe consequences. “When a visitor doesn’t report to us after visa expiry, the travel agency that facilitated their visa faces substantial fines and penalties,” said Firoz.

Travel agencies must pay a fine of Dh2,500 to authorities for each absconding case. “Additionally, the agency's visa quota is reduced, affecting our ability to operate efficiently and invite more people to the UAE,” said Varghese.

Dh2,000 absconding fine

According to industry experts, visitors who overstay illegally face hefty fines and to withdraw an absconding case; one has to go through a series of processes. “Absconding visitors can get the status removed by paying a minimum Dh2,000 fine, along with penalties for the overstay and additional administration and exit fees,” said Firoz. He added that these expenses can become overwhelming for both parties – visitors and travel agencies.

However, visitors should be aware that the minimum fine of Dh2,000 can increase to Dh5,000 when additional fees payable to authorities are included.

Travel agents are urging visitors to be aware of the legal implications of overstaying their visas. “Dubai remains an attractive destination for visitors, it is crucial for travellers to respect the visa regulations and avoid overstaying. Proper planning and adherence to visa regulations are essential to avoid legal complications and financial penalties," said Firoz.

Abu Dhabi: TB screening to be automated, ease visa application process

A new AI-powered X-ray technology will automate the reporting of tuberculosis (TB) screenings, reduce the workload on radiologists by up to 80 per cent, and increase operational efficiencies during visa processes, allowing for a larger number of applicants to be served daily.

M42, an Abu Dhabi-headquartered global tech-enabled health company, developed AIRIS-TB – an AI-powered chest X-ray for TB screening centres. Through M42’s Abu Dhabi Health Data Services, AIRIS-TB has been tested in more than 1 million scans over two years at Capital Health Screening Centre (CHSC) – M42’s flagship visa screening centre. The pilot study findings revealed the tool can reduce radiologist workload by up to 80 percent while missing zero cases of TB.

Ali Alsaffar, CEO of Capital Health Screening Centre, noted that the automation will enable the facility to serve an “unprecedented large number” of visa applicants.

“At our screening centre, the radiology team meticulously reviews thousands of scans daily, a process that is both manually intensive and demanding. While manual screening is limited by the number of scans a radiologist can review, AI presents a revolutionary change as it operates without such constraints," Alsaffar said during Abu Dhabi Global Healthcare Week.

"In normal cases, AI can eliminate wait times, providing rapid and efficient screening services, enabling us to serve an unprecedented large number of visa applicants and significantly improve the turn-around time,” Alsaffar added.

The technology uses advanced AI to detect abnormalities in X-rays and instantly flags abnormal results for further review by a radiologist. It streamlines operations and expands the scope of visa screening beyond TB. Radiologists can use the time saved to detect other conditions and refer patients for follow-up, improving health outcomes and the visa screening experience for residents.

“AIRIS-TB isn’t just about tech advancement; it’s about reshaping healthcare delivery and experience. It is a powerful testament to the synergy of the assets of our group, which aim to solve pressing health challenges with technological innovation, setting new global standards in TB screening,” Ashish Koshy, group chief operating officer, M42, said.

M42 plans to deploy the tool on Malaffi, Abu Dhabi’s Health Information Exchange operated by M42’s Abu Dhabi Health Data Services, where other screening providers can potentially utilise it for their operations.

Kareem Shahin, CEO of M42’s Abu Dhabi Health Data Services, noted: “Deployed at M42’s flagship visa screening facility, Capital Health Screening Centre, it represents a significant stride forward for medical technology in the UAE.”

Shahin pointed out that the tool streamlines the screening process and improves diagnostic precision.

“Our focus remains on optimising patient care and ensuring healthcare professionals are supported by the most reliable tools. The potential implementation of AIRIS-TB in Malaffi will significantly increase access to this technology at Abu Dhabi’s healthcare facilities and screening centres looking to scale their operations, improve efficiency and provide better care.”

With its proven safety, efficacy, and clinical impact, AIRIS-TB is set to redefine the standards and process for TB screening across the globe.

Alsaffar noted: “Our doctors can dedicate more time to intricate chest radiology findings, providing an important opportunistic detection capability, thereby enabling us to provide superior services for our visa applicants. As the model is scalable, we are looking forward to extending it to ADNOC Occupational Medical Centre, which is under our operation.”

M42 is working on enhancing AIRIS-TB’s capabilities and exploring its applications in other diagnostic areas, including opportunistic screening of other diseases without changing the current workflow of TB screening.

How to Renew Trade License in Abu Dhabi

A trade license is a legal document that allows individuals or businesses to engage in commercial activities in Abu Dhabi. It is a crucial requirement for conducting business in the emirate and ensures that all operations are carried out in compliance with local laws and regulations. Without a valid trade license, individuals or businesses risk facing penalties, fines, or even closure of their operations.

Trade license renewal in Abu Dhabi is essential to ensure the smooth continuation of your business activities. Failure to renew your license on time can result in legal consequences, such as fines or the suspension of your business operations. It is essential to understand the renewal process and adhere to the deadlines set by the relevant authorities to avoid any disruptions to your business.

If you’re not sure how to renew your trade license, we’ve got you covered. Here we will guide you through the necessary steps, documents required, and any fees associated with the renewal process.

What is a Trade License in Abu Dhabi?

A trade license in Abu Dhabi is basically a permit that allows you to legally operate a business within the emirate. It’s issued by the Department of Economic Development (DED). There are different types of licenses depending on your business activity, like general trading, industrial, service, or even e-commerce.

How to Obtain a Trade License in Abu Dhabi?

To get a trade license in Abu Dhabi, there’s a process to follow:

  • Choose your business activities and legal structure. This will determine the type of license you need.
  • Pick a trade name and get it approved by the DED.
  • Apply for initial approval.
  • Depending on your situation or business activity, you might need a local sponsor and sign a Memorandum of Association (MOA).
  • Find a location for your business and secure a tenancy contract.
  • Prepare and submit all the required documents to the DED. This typically includes copies of passports and visas for shareholders, your residency permit, a bank letter, and the tenancy contract with Ejari attestation (which is a verification process). There might be additional documents depending on your specific case.
  • Once approved, you’ll receive your trade license.

Why Renew Your Trade License?

Trade license renewal in Abu Dhabi is crucial for any business operating in the Emirates. Here’s why it’s so important to renew on time:

1. Stay Legal and Avoid Penalties

A trade license is mandatory to operate a business legally. Failing to renew it can result in hefty fines and even business closure.

2. Maintain Business Continuity

A valid license ensures your business operations can run smoothly without interruption. You can avoid any potential delays or restrictions due to an expired license.

3. Benefit from Long-Term Renewals

The Abu Dhabi DED now offers trade license renewals for up to 3 years instead of just 1 year. This saves you time, reduces renewal hassle, and potentially lowers overall procedural costs.

4. Uphold Business Reputation

A renewed license signifies your commitment to compliance and professionalism, which can strengthen your reputation with clients, partners, and investors.

In short, renewing your trade license on time is essential to avoid legal issues, maintain business continuity, and project a positive image.

How to Renew Trade License in Abu Dhabi? Step-by-Step Process

Here’s a step-by-step process for trade license renewal in Abu Dhabi, combining the best aspects of both mainland and free zone procedures:

1. Check License Validity

First things first, verify your trade license expiry date. Don’t wait until the last minute to initiate the renewal process.

2. Review Tenancy Contract

Ensure your tenancy agreement for your business premises is valid for at least one more month from the intended application date. Renew it if necessary.

3. Prepare Required Documents

Ensure you have all necessary documents ready, depending on your business jurisdiction i.e. Mainland or Freezone.

4. Choose Your Renewal Method

You can renew your trade license online through the TAMM platform or in person at a DED service center.

A. Online Renewal:

  • Access TAMM Platform: Abu Dhabi has a convenient online portal called TAMM (TAMM – Department of Economic Development). Check if your business is eligible for online trade license renewal through TAMM.
  • Log in with UAE Pass: You’ll need to log in using your UAE Pass, which is the digital identity system for the United Arab Emirates.

  • Submit Application & Documents: Present the completed application form (BR/1 form for mainland) and all the required documents in person.
  • Payment and Processing: Clear any outstanding dues and pay the renewal fees as directed by the authorities.
  • Collect Renewed License: Once approved, you’ll be able to collect your renewed trade license.

For complex business activities or if you’re unsure about any aspect of the renewal process, consider consulting with a business setup expert at Shuraa Business Setup in Abu Dhabi for guidance.

What Happens if You Don’t Renew Your Trade License

Failing to renew your trade license in Abu Dhabi can lead to a series of complications for your business. This may include:

1. Financial Penalties

The most immediate impact is financial. You’ll likely face fines for operating without a valid license. These can vary depending on the duration of the lapse and the type of license but can be substantial.

In some cases, there might be a base fine for non-renewal and additional monthly penalties for every month you operate without a renewed license.

2. Business Disruption

An expired license can put your business operations on hold. You might not be able to legally sign contracts, open bank accounts, or secure permits necessary for your business activities.

3. Blacklisting

In severe cases, the authorities could blacklist your company. This can have serious repercussions, potentially limiting your ability to conduct business transactions, invalidating visas sponsored by your company, and even leading to deportation for business owners or managers.

4. Negative Image

An expired license can reflect poorly on your business and damage your reputation with clients and partners.

How Much is the License Renewal Fee in Abu Dhabi?

Abu Dhabi trade license renewal fees in Abu Dhabi generally range from AED 100 to AED 300 , depending on whether your business is in the mainland or a free zone, and the duration of the renewal period you choose (One- or three-year renewal period).

The fee structure for free zone trade license renewals can vary depending on the specific free zone authority. It’s generally recommended to check with your relevant free zone authority for their current renewal fees. However, it typically involves a base fee and might also depend on factors like your business activity and visa requirements.
