Check when you need to be here and how to get to us. Our historical tours start from the Lower East Oval Room of the Rotunda every school day (except home football game days ). Admissions tours meet in varying times and locations, which you can check  here . Locations can (in rare instances) change, so please double check the schedule the day of your visit to make sure you are headed to the right place! They are offered by request, using the Summer Tour Request Form beginning Monday, May 20th.

During the academic year, engineering tours are offered Monday - Saturday (**with exceptions). Tours for the Spring 2024 semester ended on Tuesday, April 30, 2024.

• Tours are once a day at 1:00 p.m .
• All tours last about 50 minutes. 
• No reservation is required. 
• Visitors wishing to take a tour should meet at the entrance of Thornton Hall's A-Wing .  

**Please note: Tours are NOT available for home football game days and when classes are not in session .

Driving Directions

From I-64: Following signs to the UVA Information Center, get off at exit 118B for the Route 29/250 Bypass. Go approximately 2 miles and take the off ramp for Route 250 East Business (Ivy Road). Turn right off the exit ramp and follow Ivy Road. At the fourth traffic light, turn right on Route 29 Business/Emmet Street. Continue 1/2 block just past the blinking light. Turn left into the University of Virginia Central Grounds Parking Garage at 400 Emmet Street South (hourly fees), which is directly in front of Newcomb Hall.

From I-66 via U.S. Route 29 North: Take I-66 from Northern Virginia past Manassas. Take the exit marked “Route 29 South - Gainesville.” Proceed to Charlottesville, where Route 29 becomes Emmet Street. Pass University Hall basketball arena on the right. Proceed straight through the traffic light at the intersection of Route 250 Business (University Avenue/Ivy Road). Continue 1/2 block just past the blinking light. Turn left into the University of Virginia Central Grounds Parking Garage at 400 Emmet Street South (hourly fees), which is directly in front of Newcomb Hall.

Getting to the Engineering Complex: From the University of Virginia's Central Grounds Parking Garage at 400 Emmet Street South (hourly fees), take the elevator up to the bookstore level. Walk on Newcomb Road toward McCormick Road and make a right on McCormick. Walk across the overpass/bridge. Thornton Hall is the first building on the left. Engineers Way is to the right of Thornton Hall and leads to the rest of the Engineering School complex — with the exception of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, which is housed near the Medical School.

The nearest public parking to the Engineering School is available for an hourly fee in the University of Virginia Central Grounds Parking Garage at 400 Emmet Street South .

A Return to Grounds: In-Person Admission Tours Are Back at UVA

The Virginia summer heat and humidity slowly grew more intense Monday under a haze of early morning sunshine as a tangle of high school students and their parents gathered for the first in-person college tours at the University of Virginia in 15 months.

There was a sense of excitement and anticipation in the air as small groups of visitors departed the grassy expanse outside Peabody Hall, which houses the Office of Admission, with their tour guides to walk the Grounds and learn about academic and student life at UVA.

As more and more people got vaccinated against COVID-19 this spring and the state lifted restrictions on gatherings, the Office of Admission began planning a new tour model.

“We’re really excited to invite our prospective families back to Grounds,” said Macy Lenox, an associate dean of admission who steered the resumption of tours. “For us, it’s an essential part of our mission and is something we truly enjoy doing.”

Beginning Monday, UVA began offering two rounds of tours daily, in the morning and afternoon, in groups of 10, with pairs of interested students and one parent each. For now, officials are limiting the size of the tours, which historically included up to 30 people at a time. “This is in consultation with UVA leadership, who have been in consultation with health experts,” Lenox said. The summer tours, led by student interns in the Office of Admission], take place weekdays at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Interested families may register for their time preference .

For rising high school senior Togen Floch of Sterling, his tour of UVA was his very first college tour. He said he was drawn to UVA because of the programming in the School of Nursing. He and his mother, Pietra Gephardt, arrived in Charlottesville Sunday evening and spent some time getting the lay of the land on the Corner, a popular commercial district filled with coffee shops and restaurants just across the street from UVA’s Grounds.

Floch said he was overjoyed to be out in public with other people and mask-free. “I love it. I’ve spent half of high school online, so this is great,” he said, grinning widely. “I love the feeling of seeing people and being able to probably meet new friends that I could have if I come here next year.”

Students Lead the Tours

In a typical year, admissions tours begin with an information session with a dean of admission in the auditorium in Newcomb Hall Theater, followed by a tour of Grounds by upper-class students. This summer, information sessions will be held online, but 13 students will lead in-person tours, which Lenox said is the most popular part of the entire enterprise. (The 15-minute information session video will be emailed to registered visitors.)

UVA student Benjamin Trombetta led one of the very first tours Monday morning. He started by explaining to his group that UVA founder Thomas Jefferson “had the idea that learning doesn’t stop after you graduate.”

“So instead of freshman, sophomore and so on, you are a first-year, a second-year, a third-year,” he said. Or, like him, a rising fourth-year student.

The tour guides made stops on the Lawn; Newcomb Hall, which houses many student activity offices; and various other academic buildings and dorms.

At the outset, Trombetta asked students in his group where they were from. Two had traveled California; high school senior Delilah Dehan and her father Ben were rounding up a visit to schools in the mid-Atlantic, having already been to Davidson College and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

“It looks really pretty, and I’ve also looked at pictures and it has more hills than more of the schools around here,” Delilah said, making her way to the Lawn on crutches. A running injury had laid her up, but Dehan said she’s looking forward to getting back into the swing of things – and running hills is what she wants.

Trombetta said the tour guides are often asked about their favorite traditions at UVA. For him, the answers include Lighting of Lawn , a hugely popular student-led tradition founded after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks to encourage unity. Trick-or-Treating on the Lawn , a massive Halloween event that draws thousands of community families, also makes that list. “Or even something as simple as singing ‘The Good Old Song’ when we score at a football game or sporting event” makes the cut, he said.

While at the outset, a total of 100 people will be invited to register for the daily admissions tours, Lenox said her team will continue to assess things. “Our hope is that as summer moves forward, as restrictions [possibly] lessen, that we’ll be able to increase the size of the tours,” she said. “But at this point, they are going to fill up fast, is what we’re expecting.”

UVA also offers a self-guided walking tour and an audio tour that touches on several things, from UVA traditions and the Rotunda to Greek life and academics.

Despite its name, Boston College is not located in Boston. The 175-acre main campus in Chestnut Hill sits a little over 6 miles from downtown. The attractive campus features collegiate Gothic architecture and sits on a hill overlooking the Chestnut Hill Reservoir.

Boston University

Located on an urban campus in the Fenway neighborhood, Boston University is home to one of the largest residence halls in the country, as well as beautiful green spaces along the Charles River. From contemporary towers to historic brownstones, the university's architecture is truly diverse.

Online: Boston University has an excellent collection of over 40 videos narrated by students that provide a window into academic life, residential life, and campus life.

Brown University

As one of the prestigious Ivy League schools , admission to Brown University is extremely selective. The campus in Providence, Rhode Island, features attractive red brick buildings and a hilltop location. The highly ranked Rhode Island School of Art and Design adjoins the campus.

Columbia University

As a member of the Ivy League located in the Morningside Heights neighborhood of Manhattan, Columbia University can be an excellent choice for strong students looking for an urban college experience. Barnard College sits adjacent to the Columbia campus.

Cornell University

Another Ivy League school, Cornell University has an enviable location in the Finger Lakes region of Central New York. The large hillside campus sits in the middle of wine country overlooking Lake Cayuga. In addition, Ithaca frequently ranks among the best college towns in the nation.

Dartmouth College

Another highly selective member of the Ivy League, Dartmouth College is located in the quintessential college town of Hanover, New Hampshire. The iconic bell tower of Baker Library soars above the school's attractive buildings and open green spaces.

Online : The Dartmouth admissions website has links to some excellent resources including a 360-degree virtual tour with YouVisit and virtual tours of athletic facilities and the School of Engineering. Duke University

Located in Durham, North Carolina, Duke University 's sprawling campus includes a forest and a medical center. The school is well known for its stone Collegiate Gothic architecture. The iconic Duke Chapel towers over 200 feet above West Campus.

Harvard University

As one of the world's most prestigious and selective universities, Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, has probably been filmed and photographed more than any other school in the United States. The university has roots going back well before the U.S. was a country, and it is also a major research hub with over 20,000 graduate students. The result is a campus with an interesting mix of historic and state-of-the-art facilities.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology often tops the rankings of engineering schools in both the United States and the world. The school's 168-acre campus stretches along the Charles River in Cambridge, and you'll find a variety architecture from the neoclassical central buildings to the Frank Gehry designed Stata Center.

New York University

City lovers will be drawn to NYU 's location in Manhattan's Greenwich Village, adjacent to Washington Square Park. The campus is truly urban, so don't expect to find the green spaces and quadrangles that are typical of most campuses on this list. The school leverages its location to create impressive opportunities for students in fields ranging from business to the performing arts.

Northwestern University

2024 ncaa baseball bracket: men's college world series scores, schedule.

The 2024 DI men's baseball tournament began with regionals on May 31 and will conclude in Omaha, Nebraska from June 22-23/24. North Carolina, Virginia, Florida, NC State, Kentucky, Texas A&M, Tennessee and Florida State won their respective Super Regionals, advancing to the Men's College World Series. These eight teams will compete in Omaha from June 14-23/24. Tournament selections were made  on Monday, May 27.

What is the difference between the Division I baseball tournament and the College World Series?

The NCAA Division I baseball tournament is a 64-team tournament that starts in May. After two rounds of play (which each consist of multiple games), there are just eight teams left. These eight teams then head to Omaha, Neb. for the College World Series. The CWS is the culmination of the DI tournament, where the teams compete in two brackets, with the winners of each meeting in the CWS finals, a best-of-three series to decide the NCAA champion.

When did the College World Series start?

The first-ever NCAA Division I baseball tournament was in 1947, and would barely be recognized as the same tournament nowadays. The 1947 tournament featured just eight teams, which were divided into two four-team, single-elimination brackets. The two winners — California and Yale — then met in a best-of-three final in Kalamazoo, Michigan. California would go undefeated through the inaugural CWS and beat Yale to capture the first title.

How are teams selected for the NCAA Division I baseball tournament?

Since 1954, the NCAA Division I baseball tournament field has been split into two qualifying groups: The automatic berths, and the at-large selections. Since 2014, that in a typical year split sees 31 conference champions receive automatic berths, and 33 teams receive at-large bids, decided by the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee. 

Men's College World Series champs since 1947

California defeated Yale in the first-ever Men's College World Series, the first of two played in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Texas put itself on the map as the first back-to-back champions in winning the only MCWS ever played in Wichita, Kansas in 1949. The following season Texas won its second championship, opening Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha.

First-year West Virginia men's basketball head coach Darian DeVries assembled a strong portal class in a short period of time, landing two of the Big 12's top transfers according to On3 Sports .

His son, Tucker, is rated as the No. 2 transfer in the league behind only Norchad Omeir (Baylor) while earning a national ranking of No. 4 overall. Oklahoma State guard transfer Javon Small ranks 9th in the Big 12 and 32nd nationally.

In three years at Drake, DeVries averaged 18 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists while shooting 43% from the floor and 36% from three-point land. He was a two-time Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year and helped the Bulldogs reach the NCAA Tournament in consecutive years for the first time since the early 1970s.

Javon Small had a massive impact in his one and only year at Oklahoma State, leading the team in scoring with an 15.1 point per game average. He also led the Cowboys in assists (4.1), and free throw percentage (86.6%) while finishing second in rebounds (4.7) and three-point shooting (37.4%).

Carolina baseball advances to 12th College World Series

The Diamond Heels are heading to Omaha for the first time since 2018 following a Super Regional series win against West Virginia.

For the 12th time in program history, Carolina baseball is heading to the College World Series.

First-year Jason DeCaro pitched 6 1/3 innings, and Vance Honeycutt homered on the first pitch of the game to lead the Tar Heels to a 2-1 win over West Virginia Saturday, securing their first trip to Omaha since 2018 and first under head coach Scott Forbes.

The home-standing Tar Heels (47-14), the No. 4 national seed, went to Omaha seven times from 2006-18. They returned by sweeping the best-of-three Super Regional series against unseeded West Virginia (36-24).

“I’m really happy for this team and these players,” Forbes said. “My whole goal was to get these guys to Omaha because they deserve to be there.”

The Tar Heels will play No. 12 seed Virginia in an opening-round game next weekend.

Honeycutt, who homered on the final pitch of Game One, launched the first pitch of Game Two over the left field wall, sending the crowd into a frenzy.

He led off the third with a bunt single and moved to third on Casey Cook’s base hit back up the middle. Parks Harber followed with an RBI single through the left side, easily scoring Honeycutt.

“I’ve been saying it since the beginning of the season; [Honeycutt] is the best player in the country,” Forbes said. “He said, ‘Coach, just trust us and jump on our back.’ That’s what I’ve done. He changes the game.”

DeCaro (6-1) allowed one run and two hits, struck out four and walked two before being replaced by closer Dalton Pence.

He struck out the side in the second and only allowed one base runner the next four innings before being lifted from the game.

“He’s a special kid,” Forbes said. “We liked Jason today in the matchup. Him, coach Gaines and coach Howell had a plan, and the pitcher has to go out there and execute it. It’s fun calling pitches when he’s throwing it like he was tonight.”

Reed Chumley, the final batter DeCaro faced, scored on Kyle West’s RBI single in the seventh. Pence struck out Ben Lumsden to end the inning.

Pence retired the side in order in the eighth, but West Virginia mounted its most serious scoring threat in the ninth, putting the tying run at second base with one out and loading them with two down.

However, Pence induced a groundball to first and won the race with Lumsden to the bag, giving Carolina its eighth Super Regional title.

Pence pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings and struck out six while issuing three walks and allowing one hit to earn his eighth save.

West Virginia’s Tyler Switalski (5-3) allowed two runs and five hits and issued one walk with four strikeouts.

• The Tar Heels recorded their 47th win of the season, their most since winning 48 in 2009.
• Carolina is 8-3 all-time in the Super Regional round. The Tar Heels have 17 Super Regional wins, ninth most all-time.
• Carolina recorded its sixth Super Regional sweep (2006, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2018, 2024).
• Carolina improved to 16-2 this season when allowing two runs or fewer.
• The Tar Heels finished 37-3 (.925) at Boshamer Stadium, recording the highest winning percentage in stadium history.
• Honeycutt broke his program single-season home run record, belting his 26th of the season. It was the 63rd homer of his career.
• DeCaro turned in his sixth quality start of the season.
• Pence recorded his eighth save of the season, tied for 13th most in school history.
