Top 5 airlines flying to lisbon.

The lounge staff at reception were inefficient and robotic. Boarding process was chaotic at the gate with no priority for business and first. At arrival into Dubai, no upper deck door . Food option and quality for this flight was awful . Thankfully the bar is always good.

Seats are not as easy to move as you would hope in premium econo Y

Emirates is good airlines. But there plane seats were very small and congested. Need to little good and big seats in economy class.

On the DXB to IAD flight, missed the snack between the meals again...

Most aspects of the flight were great! The entertainment was mediocre, though, which made such a long flight less enjoyable.

No Vegetarian options onboard, made to wait for a long time for boarding

The experience of the flight. The food options have definitely gone down

More than two hours delay I could not do my tax refund because of the delay to check in They lost my luggage

Surprised how empty comfortable seats in economy were not offered by crew to tall passengers. Felt like courtesy hall mark of emirates is changing. We were told in order to get those seats we have to pay $210. Not the emirates I know from past travels.

Everything was superb, only bad point was that the fast track on London Heathrow arrivals was not handed out to me and I had to go back to the gate to collect it.

It was the first time in my life (I’m 54) that I’ve had to pay for drinks on an international flight. Very disappointing. Also, the baggage fees were very steep. I’d rather pay for everything in the price of the ticket than be repeatedly charged for add-ons.

It was unclear that additional passport control was needed before boarding. The seats were cramped and uncomfortable even for small persons. The arm rests were unable to be lifted completely out of the way and the media controls cut-out made them uncomfortable to lean on. One audio channel was not working on one of our seats.

Stuff was very helpful at checkin. Flight attendants were nice. Food wasn’t very good, I expected a little more. Economy Seats are ok. Second flight was very full and they forced us to checkin our carry on.

It was great. The attention, the fly was on time.

Entertainment could be better. Choice and variety of movies was not great

This time I was very unsatisfied, due to the tickets, been overbooked from Zürich to Budapest for my children. All four of us had to get a defender out and arrive to put up past nine hours later than originally participated. They did give us different ticket in Miami however, if I would’ve seen this ticket on the Internet I would have never purchased it. We took this because we had no choice. At the airport in Miami during check-in, we were informed that my children’s tickets were sold to someone else and their tickets were canceled. They basically give us no choice but to go with booking.

The chair is narrow and very uncomfortable. There is no privacy as you advertised.

Delayed flight… caused the missing of my connecting flight in Zurich. Had to wait 10 hours in airport for new flight which was also delayed by 1 hour. No apologies and minimal compensation.

Flight was delayed, but otherwise it was a fine flight. Recommend boarding group by group, instead of calling up three groups at the same time

Checked me out of my connecting flight despite having enough time to transfer, had to check in again at the gate. Then they lost my luggage.

Flying portion was fine. Below average comfort. We had 2 canceled flights and got stuck in 2 cities which took us 3 days to get home. Kenya hasn’t done anything or even reached out to us after complaining.

We were delayed about 5 hours each way from JFK to Nairobi. On the way out, we sat on the tarmac for 5 hours making for almost 20 hours on the plane. And the seats are so uncomfortable. My bottom has never been so sore on a long flight before. Bring a pad if you can. On the return, we were delayed 5 hours in the airport. It was reported as a 3 hour delay on the board and website but at the gate it was 5 hours. So, we waited with 3 kids in the airport when we could have been at the hotel resting instead. The flight was completely full probably due to the cancelled flight the night before. I wonder if the airline is in such shambles because of their possible impending bankruptcy. The staff were pleasant and the vegan meals we requested were impressive for an airplane tv dinner style tray.

Service was good, but I lost my baggage. There should be more accountability to passengers, and more concern to help find lost baggage.

Was too pissed about my luggage not being with me even though they assured me at the gate it was to recall any other problems. Planes on the inside are in terrible shape. Thank goodness the engines seem to run okay.

Terrible. Flew from Rwanda to Nairobi for transfer then on to Madagascar. Kenya Airways does not like to park at a gate. They park on the outskirts requiring a bus shuttle. That part is okay, but the bus drops you off outside of security. If I did not skip to the front of the line with my remaining half hour connection, I would have missed my flight. Complete security check plus taking off of shoes had to be completed (again). I made it to Madagascar, but my checked bag decided to take a trip to Dubai. I know tag on luggage was to Madagascar. No one can figure out how it made it to Dubai, except for incompetence. Even though I knew it was in Dubai, they would not allow a tracking to be done until Kenya Airways had the opportunity to get it on the next flight to Madagascar. Did not happen of course! I took 3 flights with Kenya Airways during this journey. Everyone of them had something go wrong. Please look elsewhere for another airline which I will be doing in the future.

Terrible. 6 hours late and zero urgency after the fact. Took over an hour to board and then an hour plus on the runway.

Seats were great. Business class service has been cut entirely, not even a water handed out

Excellent crew. Three problems need to be taken care of: 1. Lack of wi-fi during the flight. This prevents busy traveller's from working while onboard. 2. Why there were two very-slow security check points was more punishment that necessary. Went through thorough security at transit area, the an even slower one at Gare 19!!!! Why passports needed to be checked st least 5 times by 5 different people makes no sense. Additionally, passengers were crammed like sardines in a boarding area with no charging ports that work!! This was a boarding nightmare. 3. During my flight (seat 27C) the headset socket did not work. Watched one movie, but very difficult because of that. Had to keep my fingers on the socket for it to work!

Food was awful and the seats were bad. No privacy in business class with the seat next to someone. 15 hours without WiFi!!!

Food was awful and the seats were bad. No privacy in business class with the seat next to someone.

The Heathrow team was no prepared for the number of people who were coming through at that time of the morning, it seemed they were also experiencing shift change. The lines were incredibly long and moved at a snails pace. A airport rep walked by me, I presented my boarding pass to her and asked if she thought I would make the my flight If I stayed in the current lane. The look on her face told me I was not going to make my flight. She then whisked me to another lane, got me through the line and i ran to the gate and boarded my flight with only seconds to spare. It was a frustrating experience, which BA had nothing to do with. BUT after getting onto the airplane, the flight team was welcoming and I felt a huge sense of relief. Thank you to the BA flight team!!!

Flight delay of 4 1/2 hours with no reason for over 3 hours. Missed our connection in Rome & had to pay for an additional flight.

The flight was good, my only complaint is that we were delayed in leaving by a significant amount of time.

Disaster out of City Airport with our flight cancelled and very little help.

My baggage never arrived .. its day 4 and still waiting.. on top of that the idiots gave my luggage to fedex who dont deliver on sat/sun and i am waiting on my medicines .. hopeless ground staff using mediocre logic to show urgency of luggage delivery

Our stroller got lost when flying from San Diego to Frankfurt and our luggage got lost when flying back from Frankfurt to San Diego, We had to rent a stroller during our 4 week stay and had to no stroller during our trip back to the US. Our suitcase is also still missing. We sent and email 3 weeks ago and are still waiting for somebody to get back to us.

The flight was uncomfortably warm. We asked a member of the crew to adjust the temperature, and they said they would but it didn't make a noticeable difference. They really cram you into the plane, too, in economy. It was quite uncomfortable for an 11 hour flight.

Flight was 2.5 hours late. Could not have made the connection in London, but later found out it had been cancelled. Getting reticketed in London for the flight to Geneva went well after I figured out what to do.

Good food, good service, professional but too many business class passengers, no dividing curtain, priority queue like Ryanair.

The flight was delayed, and delayed some more. But there was more room on this plane than the one that flew oversees! There was no food or entertainment, but that’s ok, it’s a short flight

Short lay-overs and total flight times. Everything else could have been better.

South Africa: Northern Cape's Astro Tourism a First

The Northern Cape has something new to offer tourists and it is a first for the African continent, says Minister of Tourism, Patricia de Lille.

"Beyond all the history, culture and beauty the Northern Cape has to offer, we are here today to launch something new the Northern Cape has to offer -- Astronomy or Astro Tourism. We at the Department of Tourism, along with the Department of Science and Innovation, are launching the National Astro-Tourism Strategy, the first country on the African continent to do so," said the Minister.

She was speaking at the launch of the National Astro-Tourism Strategy on National World Tourism Day on Friday in Carnarvon, in the Northern Cape.

"The Astro Tourism Strategy also aims to enhance the synergy between humans and conservation and a creative link between our origins of life on earth and the origins of the universe," said the Minister.

The Astro Tourism Strategy, she said, is expected to position South Africa as a world-class astro-tourism destination, focusing on infrastructure development, the optimal functioning of astronomy-tourism streams and community transformation.

The Gazetting Notice was published today.

"We invite the public, including the tourism and astronomy stakeholders to participate and contribute towards to strengthening this very important work by submitting their comments.

"Collaboration and partnership are critically important to take this work forward and we are thankful for national, provincial and local government working together as well as the private sector to ensure sustainable growth and local community development," said the Minister.

She said the Square Kilometre Array telescope, the largest radio telescope in the world, was a remarkable leap towards the future, and all on African soil.

She said it was exciting that the province was leading South Africa's proactive stance in leveraging the significant advances made in the development of the world's largest space telescope array, with a comprehensive astro-tourism strategy.

"Today, we are here to cast the spotlight on these experiences and more and to invite South Africans, and indeed visitors from the rest of the world, to come explore this province and to engage with living cultures and traditions that continue to thrive here in the Northern Cape.

"We want to use the SKA and the Astro Tourism as a catalyst to develop the Karoo and provide opportunities for rural tourism as well as agri-tourism to develop rural areas further. The Northern Cape is the prime location to launch this strategy as 50% of the world's population cannot see the beauty of the night sky but the African sky still remains at an advantage, by having the clearest and darkest night sky."

The vision of the Astro Tourism strategy aims to develop and position an inclusive Astro-Tourism sector that will yield sustainable benefit-sharing opportunities by maximising on marketing efforts and enhancing visitor experience in South Africa.

The National Astro-Tourism strategic pillars were developed through a multi-discipline consultancy process involving both the tourism and astronomy stakeholders in South Africa.

The Implementation Plan's goal is to grow astro-tourism in South Africa will be implemented, monitored and evaluated according to the three strategic pillars:

· Pillar One: Indigenous Celestial Narratives and Human Capacity Development

· Pillar Two: Infrastructure Development

· Pillar Three: Inclusive Tourism Growth and Partnerships

"There is so much untapped potential in our tourism market and we must work together on all levels of government, with the private to promote our hidden gems and give more business to SMEs and community tourism," added the Minister.

First-year, first time travel with uncg in south africa .

Carla Smalls shares her story of study abroad, safari and social justice

When first-year student Carla Smalls initially wanted to apply for the 2024 UNC Greensboro in South Africa summer program, her mom didn’t want her to go so far away. But when the application deadline was extended, she saw it as “a sign,” a chance to reconsider. This time, her mom said, “Go out and do what you want to do.” Smalls was one of ten UNCG first-year students to spend three weeks in Cape Town and the surrounding area this past summer, along with 60 others from around the world.

A gnu experience

Now a sophomore majoring in speech pathology and audiology with minors in psychology and American sign language , Smalls had never been out of the U.S., never had a passport, and never flown on a plane. But “UNCG prepared us for everything and made sure we had what we needed,” she says.

The UNCG South Africa program is designed for first-year students. Students accepted to the program meet throughout the academic year on campus at UNCG to ensure they are receiving the guidance they need on acquiring passports, making travel arrangements, receiving scholarship support and more. Smalls says her experience made her feel safe and taken care of before and during the trip. Along the way, she learned all about international travel.

The students spent the first week in Cape Town and Oudtshoorn, sightseeing and going on safari. A highlight was feeding elephants. They also saw giraffes and gnus, which Smalls says, “were the weirdest of all. There’s so much history. Everything has a story behind it.”

She loved the food. “It was so fresh, not processed, and it’s affordable. The most exotic thing I ate was ostrich.”

The first night, the group went to a festive restaurant where they played drums and danced. “That was my first experience with African culture,” she says. Her group also attended a welcome dinner at a winery and were entertained by dancers and singers. Through these ice-breaker events she developed friendships that are ongoing today.

International perspectives on social justice

They spent the remaining two weeks studying at Stellenbosch University . They lived on the campus, which Small describes as “huge,” with its own mall and many types of restaurants. “It’s like its own city,” she says. Small took two classes, one in South African political history and one in social justice and earned three UNCG credits for each. Classes were longer than at UNCG, Smalls says, lasting from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every day with a break for lunch, so they could earn six credit hours in a two-week span.

In the social justice class, the students did projects on the Me Too and Black Lives Matter movements. They had discussions with students from France, Hong Kong, and other places. “We all talked about what we experienced in our own countries, and it was great to hear the other viewpoints. We [African Americans] were seen just as Americans, while those living there were the Africans.”

Smalls, who grew up in Rocky Mount, NC, had never heard the word apartheid. “I knew who Nelson Mandela was, but I just knew his name. The Africans know firsthand what a change he made in their country. I became even more sympathetic to what their country went through with apartheid than what our country experienced with slavery.”

Inspiration to do more

Smalls came home a changed person. “The experience humbled me. We have so much here in the U.S., and while I wasn’t ungrateful before, I learned to just take in everything,” she says. “Being in Africa prepared me for something more, some way to make a difference in the world, but I don’t yet know what it is. Right now, I’m just telling my family and friends what it was like and sharing the opinions of others, helping to get their stories out.”
