Not Impressed

I am not impressed with being unable to correct the spelling on my own name. I made a mistake with my family name in the App. My correct name is on my ticket and also the website. I’ve tried correct it via live chat and also in a phone conversation and so far it’s not been corrected. I hope the rest of the functions work better.

Can’t wait until I don’t have to use it again

I think this is the worst app I have ever used. From always needing your birthdate and booking reference number every time you log in (not just an email and password), to then being sent from the app to a browser to page to login yet again just to access any shred of information is so clunky and time-consuming. There is no quick way to check anything. Navigation on the browser page while on a phone is also really painful and not intuitive. As a first-time P&O traveler, I found this surprising. For such a big company I thought they would have an innovative, user-friendly app and website.

Poor quality app.

It’s a shame that although P&O is owned by the Carnival Corporation, they have not gotten their IT eggs in one basket! This is an incredibly unstable and buggy app, over 100 of us on a recent cruise could not use it, nor could they fix it, instead offer excuses again and again. Have been on the chat merry-go-round for 7 weeks trying to get access before my next cruise. They keep trumpeting how good the app is for planning our day and keeping us informed. No good if it doesn’t work. Princess app (another Carnival arm) is fantastic and I could even book my dining and activities 6 months ahead.

P&O Cruises introduces My Holiday app and video guide

P&O Cruises introduces My Holiday app and video guide

Users will be able to pre-book dining and entertainment when sailings resume on June 27

A ‘My Holiday’ app and a pre-holiday video guide has been created by P&O Cruises to help passengers pre-book dining and entertainment when the line resumes sailing on Sunday.

A series of UK sailings start on June 27 with Britannia followed by ship Iona sailing from August 7.

The app, available to use free of charge, enables passengers to make on board bookings from their mobile phone or tablet.

They will be able to queue virtually for dining, needing only to arrive at their chosen restaurant at the exact time of their requested booking.

All restaurants on Britannia and Iona will feature table service and passengers will just need to pre-book or join a My Holiday app virtual queue.

A new video presented by the line’s celebrity wine expert Olly Smith has also been released.

Ahead of Britannia’s return to service, in line with Chamber of Shipping guidance, the ship has achieved external validation of its health and wellbeing protocols from Bureau Veritas (BV), a world leader in testing, inspection, and certification. Iona’s inspection will be undertaken shortly.

Bureau Veritas president marine and offshore Matthieu de Tugny said: “Our passenger ship experts have been supporting P&O Cruises with the verification of health and wellbeing standards to enable a return to service in line with the UK Chamber of Shipping’s guidance and Bureau Veritas guidelines.

“The ship was exceptionally well prepared and we give full credit to the entire ship’s crew and management. It will be good to see Britannia back in operation.”

New well-being measures to protect guests and crew will also be in place for P&O Cruises’ UK coastal cruises, limited UK resident Covid-19 vaccinated passengers only.

Covid-19 testing will be carried out upon arrival at the cruise terminal with boarding subject to achieving a negative test result.

P&O Cruises president Paul Ludlow said: “We cannot wait to welcome guests back on board from the end of June and we are committed to providing peace of mind and reassurance at every stage of a holiday with us.

“We want guests to enjoy every moment of these highly anticipated sailings so Olly Smith’s video on our website helpfully guides guests through what to expect this summer. Then while on board, the My Holiday app is the tool for guests to plan their activities from anywhere on the ship.

“Precious and longed-for time on board can therefore be spent getting the very most out of the P&O Cruises holiday experience.”

Understanding the Cruise Industry

To make an informed decision between Norwegian Cruise Line and P&O Cruises, you need a basic understanding of the cruise industry. Let’s take a brief look at what each cruise line offers:

A Snapshot of Norwegian Cruise Line

Norwegian Cruise Line, also known as NCL, is known for its “Freestyle Cruising” concept. This means you have the flexibility to dine where you want, when you want, and dress as you please. NCL boasts a wide array of dining options, from casual cafes to upscale specialty restaurants. Onboard activities include water parks, go-kart racing, and Broadway-style shows, ensuring there’s never a dull moment.

A Snapshot of P&O Cruises

P&O Cruises, on the other hand, caters more to a traditional cruising experience, with set dining times and formal dress codes on certain nights. Their ships feature a classic British ambiance, offering a variety of activities such as spas, theaters, and live music venues. P&O Cruises focus on providing a refined and elegant cruise experience with a touch of British charm.

Understanding these fundamental differences in cruise line offerings can help you determine which one aligns best with your preferences and travel style for your next cruise adventure.

Comparing the Fleet

Norwegian cruise line’s ships.

When evaluating Norwegian Cruise Line’s ships, you’ll find the fleet tailored for a modern cruising experience. With innovative features and dynamic activities, their vessels cater to diverse tastes. For instance, the Norwegian Encore boasts a go-kart track at sea, providing thrill-seekers with a unique onboard adventure. The Norwegian Joy, on the other hand, includes a two-level racetrack, ideal for racing enthusiasts looking to enjoy high-speed excitement while cruising.

P&O Cruises’ Ships

In contrast, P&O Cruises’ ships are renowned for their classic charm and British ambiance. The fleet offers a traditional cruising experience with a touch of sophistication. The Britannia, P&O’s flagship vessel, exemplifies this elegance with its luxurious design and refined amenities. For those seeking a more formal atmosphere with structured dining options and elegant touches, P&O’s ships deliver a timeless cruising experience with a nod to tradition.

Onboard Experience

When considering the onboard experience, there are key differences between Norwegian Cruise Line and P&O Cruises that can sway your decision on which to choose for your next adventure.

Accommodation and Amenities

On Norwegian Cruise Line ships, you’ll find modern accommodation with a focus on innovative amenities. The cabins are designed to provide a comfortable and contemporary stay, with features like virtual ocean views and interactive TV systems. For instance, the Haven suites offer upscale accommodations with exclusive access to private dining and lounging areas, providing a luxurious escape within the ship.

In contrast, P&O Cruises offer a more traditional approach to accommodation and amenities, with a touch of classic British elegance. Their cabins reflect a more refined style, catering to passengers who appreciate a classic cruise experience. For example, the suites on P&O Cruises exude a timeless charm, with attention to detail and sophisticated furnishings that transport you to a bygone era of maritime luxury.

Dining and Cuisine

When it comes to dining, Norwegian Cruise Line excels in providing diverse options to suit every palate. From casual eateries to specialty restaurants, you’ll have a wide array of choices to indulge in. The “Freestyle Cruising” concept allows you the freedom to dine when and where you want, offering a flexible dining experience tailored to your preferences. For example, you can savor global cuisine at Teppanyaki or enjoy a juicy steak at Cagney’s Steakhouse.

On the other hand, P&O Cruises offer a more structured dining experience with set dining times and formal dress codes in some venues. Their emphasis is on traditional British culinary delights, ensuring a refined gastronomic journey throughout your cruise. For instance, you can enjoy a formal evening at the main dining room, where classic dishes are prepared with a touch of sophistication for an elegant dining affair.

Entertainment and Activities

Norwegian Cruise Line is known for its vibrant entertainment options and exciting onboard activities. With Broadway-style shows, live music performances, and interactive games, there’s never a dull moment on board. The Waterfront promenade offers alfresco entertainment with stunning ocean views, providing the perfect setting for relaxation and socializing with fellow passengers.

In contrast, P&O Cruises focus on a more tailored entertainment experience, with a mix of classic performances and themed events that cater to a British audience. From West End-style productions to themed parties, you’ll find a variety of activities that reflect the cruise line’s classic charm and sophisticated ambiance. For example, you can immerse yourself in the elegant atmosphere of the onboard theaters for a night of refined entertainment.

Understanding these nuances in accommodation, dining, and entertainment can help you decide between Norwegian Cruise Line and P&O Cruises based on your preferences for a modern, flexible experience or a classic, refined journey on the high seas.

Norwegian Cruise Line tends to be slightly more expensive overall compared to P&O Cruises. For instance, a 7-night cruise with Norwegian Cruise Line might cost around $800 per person, while a similar itinerary with P&O Cruises could be priced at $700 per person. Keep in mind that prices can vary depending on the season, the specific cruise package, and the amenities included.

Analyzing Inclusions and Extras

Both cruise lines include certain amenities and extras in their packages, but the details can vary significantly. With Norwegian Cruise Line, you might find that more services are included in the base fare, such as specialty dining options, onboard activities, and entertainment. On the other hand, P&O Cruises might offer a more traditional approach with fewer inclusions in the base price. It’s essential to carefully review what each cruise line provides as part of the package and what extras you might need to pay for separately.

By comparing costs and analyzing the inclusions and extras offered by Norwegian Cruise Line and P&O Cruises, you can make an informed decision based on your budget and preferences. Remember to factor in not just the initial cost but also the overall value for money based on the amenities and experiences that matter most to you.

Service and Hospitality

Staff and crew service comparison.

When comparing Norwegian Cruise Line and P&O Cruises in terms of staff and crew service, it’s essential to consider the overall approach each cruise line takes. Norwegian Cruise Line is known for its casual and friendly service, focusing on creating a relaxed atmosphere for guests. The staff often interact with passengers in a more informal manner, aiming to make everyone feel at ease during the cruise.

On the other hand, P&O Cruises emphasize a more traditional service style with a touch of British elegance. The crew members on P&O Cruises are trained to provide a high level of formality while still ensuring a warm and welcoming environment for guests. You’ll notice a more structured approach to service on P&O Cruises, reflecting their commitment to upholding classic standards of hospitality.

In essence, if you prefer a laid-back and informal service experience, Norwegian Cruise Line may be more suited to your taste. However, if you appreciate a blend of formality and warmth in service delivery, P&O Cruises might be the better choice for you.

Onboard Hospitality Culture

The onboard hospitality culture on Norwegian Cruise Line and P&O Cruises is shaped by the overall ambiance and atmosphere created for guests. Norwegian Cruise Line cultivates a vibrant and modern hospitality culture, offering a range of contemporary amenities and entertainment options to cater to diverse preferences. You’ll find a lively and dynamic environment onboard, with a focus on innovation and flexibility in meeting guest needs.

Conversely, P&O Cruises nurture a refined and classic hospitality culture that exudes elegance and sophistication. The onboard atmosphere on P&O Cruises reflects a sense of tradition and timeless charm, with activities and dining experiences tailored to provide a taste of British heritage and luxury. Guests can immerse themselves in a more serene and traditional cruise setting on P&O Cruises, characterized by a touch of grace and style.

When considering the onboard hospitality culture, think about the type of ambiance and experience you seek during your cruise. If you’re inclined towards modern amenities and a dynamic environment, Norwegian Cruise Line’s culture may align well with your preferences.
