    Travel and Visas. F-1 Students. J-1 Students. J-1 Scholars. H-1B Employees. Inviting Family to Visit the U.S. To get a travel signature, students must complete the Request a Travel Signature e-form. An electronic I-20 will be emailed to students within 7-10 business days.

  2. Maintaining Immigration Status

    Prior to traveling outside the U.S., you need to make sure your DS-2019 has been signed for travel within the last 12 months by OISS. To get a travel signature, students must complete a Travel Signature request e-form in MyOISS.msu.edu. An electronic DS-2019 with travel endorsement will be emailed to students within 3-5 business days.

    Travel Signatures. J-2 dependents, like their J-1 spouse or parent, must obtain a travel signature on their DS-2019 from OISS in order to re-enter the U.S. after traveling abroad. Departure Notice. J-2 dependents may enter and leave the U.S. independent of the J-1 scholar or student.

  6. American Semester Program & Exchanges :: Travel

    Students on student visas (J-1 or F-1) need to know that it is important to obtain travel signature from the Office for International Students and Scholars, located in room 105 in the International Center, before they depart the United States. This means that a signature will need to be added to your form DS-2019 (for J-1 students) or form I-20 (for F-1 students).

    Do you have a plan to travel outside the U.S. during your program? You must get your DS-2019 endorsed by OISS prior to your trip. Bring your DS-2019 to OISS for a travel signature. Travel signatures take 24 hours, so plan ahead. Once you obtain the signature, it is valid for 6 months. 1, You need a valid visa stamp in your passport.

    If you will be studying in the United States on an F-1 or J-1 student visa, you will need to submit the Advanced Enrollment Deposit (AED), upload a scan of your passport and show adequate proof of financial support in order for Michigan State University to issue you the appropriate documents to obtain a student visa (I-20 or DS-2019).
