Former Seabourn SVP Chris Austin Join MSC Cruises’ Luxury Brands

Former Seabourn SVP Chris Austin Join MSC Cruises’ Luxury Brands

Chris Austin is one of five hires announced by MSC Cruises this week. Photo: MSC Group.

MSC Group’s new luxury brand, which was unveiled in 2019, announced five new hirings for its management team on Wednesday, and they include several well-known names from all corners of the travel industry.

Chris Austin, the former SVP of global sales and marketing for Seabourn Cruise Line, is joining the group as its new chief sales officer. Austin left Seabourn after four years with the line in October 2020 and before that had spent almost two decades leading sales for the luxury brand portfolio at Starwood Hotels.

Sarah Doyle, most recently the vice president of marketing with Bacardi and before that the global brand director at W Hotels, will join the group as the chief marketing officer.

Thatcher Brown, most recently the president of Dream Cruises, will join the group as a commercial and strategic advisor. Brown, in his career in travel, also served as managing director of Crystal Cruises Asia, and the vice president of onboard revenue and product development at Costa Cruises.

Sacha Rougier, who spent six years as the managing director of Cruise Gate Hamburg and five years as a business development manager at Port of Marseille, is coming aboard as the new head of itinerary planning and shore experience.

And John Stoll, who spend 17 years with Crystal Cruises and time as land programs director at Silversea, is joining the group as the new destination experience advisor.

“The leaders of the new brand bring more than 100 years of combined knowledge and expertise in the luxury, hospitality and cruise sectors. Together they will create a luxury and lifestyle travel experience as distinct as it is trailblazing, exceeding the expectations of both discerning cruisers seeking something different, those new to cruising and nextgenlux travelers curious to start,” CEO Michael Ungerer said.

MSC’s new luxury ships, 10 expected to launch in 2023, will sail with just 500 staterooms at 64,000 gross tons, giving guests more room and coming “as close as it comes to a private yacht experience,” according to MSC USA Country Manager Roberto Fusaro.

MSC describes the new ships as “superyachts” that “will introduce to the luxury segment a broad range of new guest experiences and activities as well as generous ratios of public spaces, in addition to showcasing highly innovative design.”

Katie Holmes & Tom Cruise’s Daughter Suri, 18, Drops Last Name for High School Grad Program

Katie Holmes and ex-husband Tom Cruise’s daughter celebrates her graduation under a new name “Suri Noelle."

suri cruise katie holmes

Not too long ago, Suri Holmes was seen as the most fashionable toddler around New York City. Flash forward to now, the 18-year-old was captured at her high school prom, donning a 90s-like corset dress. More recently, the notable daughter of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise is ready to head to college and leave some things behind, including her last name.

Recently,  Suri has adopted the name “Suri Noelle”. And at her graduation from Laguardia High School, she was listed among her peers without her father’s surname and with “Noelle”, which is Katie Holmes’s middle name.

Katie Holmes, 45, has been standing by her daughter’s side celebrating major momentum like her daughters’ graduation, which the Mission Impossible star was noticeably absent from. Cruise has reportedly been in London, where he is filming for the next Mission Impossible film. However, during Suri’s graduation weekend, Cruise was spotted attending Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in London.

This absence adds to the ongoing speculation about Cruise’s relationships with his daughter, as well as his adopted children with actress Nicole Kidman.

In 2013, Tom Cruise decided to pursue a $50-million lawsuit against some tabloids fighting claims that he “abandoned” his daughter after his divorce from Holmes in 2012. At the time, he countered the idea by mentioning they “spoke on the phone nearly every day” and that he “regularly asked for and received updates concerning her friends and school life”. The case was eventually dismissed, with each paying their own costs and attorney fees.

Despite any rocky aspects of Suri Noelle’s relationship with her father, she seems to be doing her own thing, like getting ready for college. Though the mother-daughter duo has not officially confirmed what school she will attend, a classmate shared a TikTok where Suri sported a Carnegie Mellon sweatshirt.

Warning: Disturbing information below.

Adult film star Austin Wolf has been arrested on charges of child pornography.

The Department of Justice announced the news Friday, saying that Wolf — legal name: Justin Heath Smith — has been charged with receiving and sending “hundreds of videos” of child porn using an anonymous account via the Telegram app.

“Those videos depicted children as young as infants, including a video showing a 10-year-old child bound and raped,” the DOJ said, calling that specific video “ghastly.”

Austin Wolf

The DOJ added that Smith, 43, has also been charged with “possessing hundreds of additional videos containing child pornography in his Manhattan apartment.”

According to the allegations contained in the criminal complaint, Smith’s alleged activity took place over the course of a mere five days in March.

At that point, the FBI “seized and searched” the phone of the individual with whom Smith had allegedly been communicating.

“An undercover FBI agent subsequently began a conversation with Smith’s anonymous Telegram account,” the complaint said.

“In the course of those conversations, Smith revealed details that confirmed his identity.”

In April, the FBI executed a search warrant at Smith’s Manhattan apartment, where agents discovered “an SD card with hundreds of videos containing child pornography.”

Smith has been charged with one count of distribution and receipt of child pornography, and one count of possession of child pornography.

The former carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison and a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, while the latter carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

Reps for Smith did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.

Anyone with information about Smith’s alleged conduct is encouraged to call the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI.

Yet another self-driving car company will use Austin as its testing grounds

A Zoox Toyota Highlander driving on Congress Avenue in front of the Texas Capitol building.

A new fleet of self-driving cars will begin roaming downtown Austin next month.

The cars — white SUVs with a blue and purple color scheme painted on the sides — are courtesy of Zoox.

The Amazon-owned company said it chose Austin because its mapping software will learn from our horizontal traffic lights, railway crossings and "famous" thunderstorms.

The cars are also driving around and being tested in Miami, Seattle, San Francisco and Las Vegas.

"The insights we gain in these cities will be invaluable in every territory we operate in going forward," Zoox officials said in a June 5 announcement.

Right now, Zoox is testing out its software via retrofitted Toyota Highlanders equipped with safety drivers.

Down the road, Zoox wants to apply that software to its electric robotaxis — boxy, compact cars with no steering wheel, no gas or brake pedals, and no one in the driver's seat.

Zoox is eyeing San Francisco and Las Vegas as the potential first cities where customers can hail a robotaxi before eventually expanding to Austin.

At a virtual event Wednesday, Ron Thaniel, the senior director for policy and regulatory affairs at Zoox, said the robotaxis will "untether Americans from personal automobiles” and offer a service that’s safer and more environmentally friendly than today's human-operated, gas-powered ride-hailing options.

“An [autonomous vehicle] does not get distracted, an AV does not drive impaired, it does not drive when it's tired... therefore reducing fatalities of vulnerable road users in dense cities,” he said.

But, as it turns out, AV's are imperfect, too. Zoox has been under investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration since May for two rear-end collisions. Both incidents involved a motorcyclist and caused minor injuries.

If you're getting déjà vu, you might be thinking of Austin's checkered past with autonomous car company Cruise.

Cruise released over 100-self driving cars in Austin in September 2022. In the year that followed, Cruise received dozens of complaints, ranging in severity from blocking the Moody Center after a concert to interfering with emergency services, KUT previously reported .

Cruise paused operations nationwide last October after the California Department of Motor Vehicles suspended its testing license.

Waymo began testing its self-driving Jaguars in Austin in March. The company hasn’t been the subject of local complaints, but they too are in the midst of a federal investigation. In May, NHTSA began investigating Waymo for 22 incidents where the cars collided with gates and chains, hit parked cars and disobeyed traffic signals.

The city doesn't have control over autonomous vehicle companies that want to pilot in Austin. A law passed in 2017 by the Texas Legislature prohibits cities from regulating autonomous vehicles due to their economic potential.

But officials at Austin's Transportation and Public Works Department said they are working with Zoox to help the vehicles operate more safely.

"We believe AVs have the potential to enhance the safety of our streets, and we work with AV companies to ensure deployments are done thoughtfully to ensure minimal risk," the department said in a statement.

Texas baseball hires Jim Schlossnagle of Texas A&M as coach, replacing David Pierce

chris austin cruise

As it tries to regain its standing among college baseball's elite programs, Texas has turned to a rival for help, tabbing Texas A&M's Jim Schlossnagle to be the program's 14th head coach.

Schlossnagle, who just led the Aggies to the College World Series championship series, replaces David Pierce, whose eight-year run in Austin ended on Monday .

Schlossnagle, 53, has spent the past three seasons at A&M. He also coached at TCU from 2004-21 and at UNLV from 2002-03 and has a career record of 946-455. He has led seven teams to the CWS, his latest trip ending with Monday night's 6-5 loss to Tennessee in Game 3 of the championship series.

The news of Schlossnagle's move from College Station to Austin was first reported on Tuesday by 247Sports. A source later confirmed the news to the American-Statesman.

What is Jim Schlossnagle inheriting at Texas?

Despite running the athletic departments at Rice, TCU and Texas since 2006, UT athletic director Chris Del Conte had never hired a head baseball coach. In Schlossnagle, though, he found some familiarity since their time at TCU overlapped from 2009 to 2017.

Schlossnagle also is quite familiar with Texas. He has compiled a 24-16 record against the Longhorns and his TCU teams competed in the Big 12 alongside UT from 2013-21. Over the past three years, his Aggies have eliminated Texas from the 2022 College World Series and beat the Longhorns in a 2024 regional game.

In Austin, Schlossnagle inherits a program that is anything but downtrodden. The Longhorns were 36-24 this season and are just one year removed from winning their third Big 12 championship under Pierce. Outfielder Max Belyeu, who's the reigning Big 12 player of the year , is among the talent that could return next season.

"The future of this program is going to be in great hands and it's going to be in a good spot," Pierce said after the Longhorns' season with a 10-2 regional loss to Louisiana on June 2.

But at a program that has made 38 CWS appearances and won six national championships, the Longhorns have not recently lived up to the expectations set by coaches like William Disch, Bibb Falk, Cliff Gustafson and Augie Garrido. Texas last reached Omaha in 2022 and went 1-2 in regional play this season. The 2025 season will mark the 20-year anniversary of UT's last dogpile in Omaha.

Schlossnagle's week has gone from CWS to UT

Schlossnagle's decision to leave A&M for Texas likely stunned a few fans. After all, the Aggies were 53-15 this season and fell one win shy of winning its first baseball national championship. Schlossnagle joins Ray Tanner as the only CWS runner-up coaches not to return to their teams the following season. Tanner became South Carolina's athletic director after his Gamecocks were beaten by Arizona for the 2012 title.

Details of Schlossnagle's deal at Texas were not immediately available, but he was making $1.35 million at A&M in 2024. A stipulation in his A&M contract calls for a buyout of twice his salary if he leaves the Aggies for another in-state school.

Schlossnagle also downplayed the possibility of his taking the UT job in a fiery response after the Aggies' season ended Monday night . During the postgame press conference, he emphatically stated that "I took the job at Texas A&M to never take another job again and that hasn't changed in my mind.

"I gave up a big part of my life to come take this job, and I've poured every ounce of my soul in this job, and I've given this job every single ounce I can possibly give it," Schlossnagle added.

Texas' poaching of Schlossnagle should add some spice to a rivalry that has featured 382 all-time games. Texas will officially join the Southeastern Conference next week; the baseball teams were among the few programs at Texas and A&M that have played regularly since the Aggies left the Big 12 in 2012. But they're about to be conference foes again. The SEC has already designated Texas A&M as one of UT's two permanent rivals on the schedule in a 16-team conference .

This is a developing story that will be updated.

Tom Cruise all smiles on family day out with rarely-seen son Connor

Tom Cruise in London with son Connor

Tom Cruise enjoyed a family day out as he was joined by his son, Connor, while in London .

The 61-year-old is currently in the UK while filming the upcoming Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning sequel .

New pictures have emerged showing the action icon heading out with the budding actor, 29, who he shares with ex-wife Nicole Kidman .

They were seen making the most of the summer sunshine by taking in a sightseeing flight over London, before returning to a heliport in Battersea.

Tom – who is also dad to Bella with Nicole, and Suri Cruise with third wife Katie Holmes – was clearly delighted at having company.

He grinned widely while safely seated at the front of the chopper, opting for a white polo shirt and dark blue jeans for the outing, paired with sparkling white trainers.

Tom Cruise in London with son Connor

Connor got the casual memo in a black T-shirt and grey trousers, finishing off the look with a grey baseball cap, trainers and chunky sunglasses.

Tom has kept his bond with his children firmly behind closed doors in recent years, and they have rarely been pictured together.

Tom first met Nicole while filming 1990 flick Days of Thunder, and they walked down the aisle at the end of that year – before splitting in February, 2001.

They started their family by adopting Isabella in 1992, before adding to their brood with Connor three years later.

Tom Cruise in London with son Connor

Tom previously opened up to Esquire about becoming a dad for the first time, and feeling an ‘immediate bond’ with Bella.

‘I remember that first night, just staring at Bella. I was checking her every second, just looking at her, feeling that immediate bond,’ he told the outlet in 2010. ‘I was probably looking at her so much that I was keeping her up.

‘I made a promise to her: All I can do is the best I can. But I’m not going to say I’m going to do something and then not do it.

‘If I tell you we’re going to have ice cream on Friday night, we’re going to have ice cream on Friday night.

Tom Cruise

‘If I say I’m going to take your call anytime you need me, and I’m in the middle of something on the set, my world is going to stop for you. I made that promise to all of my kids.’

Despite having superstars for parents, Connor and Bella have remained mostly out of the spotlight – the latter has started her own fashion line and has been highly praised for her artwork.

Connor previously followed Nicole and Tom into Hollywood with roles in Seven Pounds with Will Smith, in 2008, and once again in Red Dawn in 2012.

Texas AD Chris Del Conte Hid at a Cemetery While Waiting to Meet Jim Schlossnagle

Matt galatzan | jun 26, 2024.

University of Texas baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle, second from left, is joined by UT Athletic Director Chris Del Conte, left to right, President Jay Hartzell and Chairman of the Board of Regents Kevin Eltife at his introductory news conference at the Frank Denius Family University Hall of Fame Wednesday June 26, 2024.

It appears that what Texas wants, Texas gets. Especially when it comes to a new head coach .

That was exactly the case with their new head baseball coach, Jim Schlossnagle, who the Longhorns hired right on the heels of an agonizing 6-5 College World Series Loss by his former team, the Texas A&M Aggies.

According to reports , the deal to bring Schlossnagle to Austin from College Station was ostensibly done almost two months ago.

And apparently, Texas Longhorns AD Chris Del Conte wasted no time getting that deal across the finish line, telling reporters that he hid in a cemetery just outside of College Station while waiting for Schlossnagle to return home before making his pitch

“With Jim, our eggs were in one basket,” Del Conte said Wednesday. “I was banking on my relationship with him that we could come to a deal. I was really nervous, to tell you the truth. … When I was in the cemetery, [then on the way] to their house, it’s just as crazy as it sounds. I played every scenario in my mind. I drove to his house, had a long, long discussion, put him in the car, and we drove off.”

Shortly after the press conference, Del Conte also posted proof of his cemetery story on X.

🤘🏽 pic.twitter.com/1OF5hYUyYN — Chris Del Conte (@_delconte) June 26, 2024

Suffice it to say, Del Conte wasn't going to leave College Station without his guy.

And for good reason. Schlossnagle is arguably the best coach in college baseball, accumulating a 945-452 overall record with 59-36 in tournaments.

With the Aggies, Schlossnagle won nearly 70 percent of his games, going 135-62, and matching the Aggies' number of College World Series wins in program history in just his first season with the program.

He has also amassed 20 total conference titles (six Big 12, 12 Mountain West, and two conference USA), seven Super Regional appearances, and nine regional appearances. He was also named the 2016 Baseball America National Coach of the Year.

Del Conte, of course, knows that as well as anyone, with Schlossnagle serving as the head coach of the TCU Horned Frogs under Del Conte from 2010-2017, where his new head baseball coach helped the Frogs win four Big 12 titles and make five appearances in the College World Series.

"For 10 years I had a front-row seat to watch the man lead a program at TCU from the ashes to five times going to Omaha," Del Conte said.

Now, he brings Schlossnagle to Austin, hoping for the same result.

Chris Jericho’s ‘Rock ‘N’ Wrestling Rager At Sea’ Postponed Until 2023

Wrestling fans will have to wait another year to attend Chris Jericho's cruise.

Jericho Cruise

  • Chris Jericho

The fourth voyage for Chris Jericho’s Rock ‘N’ Wrestling Rager At Sea will have to wait another year.

In a statement released on Tuesday, it was revealed that the March 2022 cruise has been pushed back until 2023. Among the factors listed as rationale for the decision were a quick turnaround time from the cruise that just took place in October, as well as the continued spread of Covid-19 and the state of the world currently.

The fourth cruise is now scheduled for February 2nd through February 6th, 2023. The official statement on the cruise postponement reads as follows:

“Chris Jericho’s Rock ‘N’ Wrestling Rager at Sea is an incredibly special event and that is because of our amazing cruisers!” the statement read. “Since announcing the event during the Triple Whammy in late October 2021 and gearing up to set sail in March 2022, we’ve heard overwhelming feedback from the Rager at Sea family. Members of this awesome community would love to attend but are unable to due to the current environment and the quick turnaround between cruises.

“After compiling feedback and researching the options, we have made the decision to postpone the Four Leaf Clover to 2023. The Four Leaf Clover will now sail February 2-6, 2023 aboard Norwegian Pearl from Miami, Florida to Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas. We’ll spend the day on our very own private island (a new destination for the Rager at Sea!) where the beach is steps away, the food is free, and any purchased drink packages will be honored!”

Of course, numerous wrestling stars have been part of Jericho’s cruise in the past. The second cruise in January 2020 featured a taping of AEW Dynamite on the ship itself. Reviews among fans and attendees of the previous Jericho cruises have generally been very positive.
