How to Purchase Legoland Discount Tickets [12 Ways to Save]

Located in the beautiful city of Carlsbad, California (where I hope to live one day), is the home of Legoland California. Legoland has entertained my kiddos for years and is one of the best things to do with kids in the San Diego area . From their Brick or Treat to their expanded water park, to their amazing hotels we always have a blast. However with me having 6 kids theme parks can get pricey, thus we have learned a few ins and out to purchase Legoland discount tickets. Here are some tips to get discounted tickets for your visit to Legoland.

Undercover Tourist is a popular website for purchasing theme park tickets at a discount. If you’ve planned a trip to Walt Disney World , Universal Studios, or SeaWorld, you’ve probably come across Undercover Tourist. But did you also know you can use this website to book hotels and rental cars, too?

In this post, we’ll go over what you need to know to use Undercover Tourist to find the best prices on amusement park tickets, hotels, and rental cars. Plus, we’ll go over some of the popular features of the site like the Crowd Calendar.

Undercover Tourist is a website that that’s been around since 2000 and is known for offering discounted tickets to theme parks across the U.S. The site is an authorized seller of tickets for all the major theme parks you know and love:

  • Walt Disney World Resort in Florida
  • Disneyland in California
  • Universal Orlando Resort
  • Universal Studios Hollywood
  • SeaWorld Orlando
  • SeaWorld San Diego
  • LEGOLAND Florida Resort
  • LEGOLAND California Resort

Undercover Tourist also has discounted tickets to non-theme park attractions like Ripley’s Believe It or Not, ski resorts, zoos, movie theaters, and lots more! Plus, it acts as an online travel agency for hotels and car rentals.

While Undercover Tourist offers a ton of ticket, hotel, and car options, the site is limited in the number of destinations it covers. You’ll only find options in the following cities:

  • Breckenridge, CO
  • Chicago, IL
  • Los Angeles, CA
  • New York City, NY
  • Orlando, FL
  • Park City, Utah
  • San Antonio, Texas
  • San Diego, CA
  • San Francisco, CA
  • Washington, D.C.

Options in Seattle, London, and Paris are coming soon.

Bottom Line: Undercover Tourist is a resource for discounted tickets to theme parks and other attractions in select cities across the U.S. It’s best known for offering discounted tickets to Walt Disney World and Universal Studios theme parks.  The site also acts as an online travel agency for hotel reservations and car rentals in these select cities.

Let’s review the steps to using Undercover Tourist to purchase discounted tickets.

You can start your search for discounted tickets from many different places on the home page. Click on Discount Tickets in the top menu bar, click on a logo underneath the menu bar, or click on any of the featured tickets in the middle of your screen to start your search.

Finding discounted tickets on Undercover Tourist

After choosing your destination, you’ll be able to see lots of information about your chosen theme park, including maps, hotels, tips, and more. Scroll down a bit to find the availability calendar and ticket options.

Disney tickets through Undercover Tourist

The tickets you buy through Undercover Tourist are exactly the same as if you purchased them directly from the park, except you’ll probably save some money.

After choosing the type and number of tickets you need, you’ll be able to see your final price and choose your travel dates. The price you see is what you’ll pay — taxes are included and shipping is free!

Hot Tip: Are you on a tight budget? Check out our full guide to using visiting Disney World for cheap using points and miles.

Paper Tickets vs. E-Tickets

You may be inclined to have your tickets emailed to you, but there are some risks. E-tickets are non-refundable, and you’ll need to stop at Will Call at the gate to pick up your physical tickets. For Disney tickets, if you have a MagicBand, you can add the e-tickets to your account and proceed directly to the gate, but they’ll still be non-refundable.

Instead, it may be a better idea to have the physical tickets mailed to you. This option is also free and the tickets will be eligible for a refund. Plus, you’ll be able to go straight to the gate at the park which can be a huge timesaver.

Paper vs emailed tickets from Undercover Tourist

Refundable Tickets

Many tickets sold on Undercover Tourist are refundable within 90 days of purchase. To get a refundable ticket, you’ll need to have tickets mailed to you vs. opting for email delivery. Refundable tickets will be clearly marked. Be sure to confirm the return policy for your specific tickets before completing your purchase.

If you need to return tickets that you purchased, you’ll be charged a 5% fee to cover the return.

Hot Tip: E-tickets are non-refundable. To get a ticket that is eligible for a refund, you’ll need to select the Mailed To Your Door  option.

Travel Insurance

Before finalizing your purchase, you’ll be prompted to add travel insurance. Before choosing whether or not to add insurance to your purchase, you’ll want to learn about all of your options.

Undercover Tourist offers insurance through Allianz Global Assistance , a popular travel insurance company. However, the policy offered by Undercover Tourist covers lots of areas that may already be covered through your credit card including trip cancellation and interruption , lost or delayed baggage, and travel accident insurance, so it may not be needed.

If you purchase tickets that are eligible for a refund, insurance is probably not necessary. If you’re also booking a hotel or rental car, take a minute to determine if you have a credit card with rental car insurance  before purchasing a separate policy.

Undercover Tourist Crowd Calendar

The Undercover Tourist Crowd Calendar is a popular feature on the site that helps you identify the least and most crowded times to visit a specific park.

To access the Crowd Calendar, just click on Crowd Calendar in the top menu bar of the website.

How to find the Crowd Calendar on Undercover Tourist

You’ll be able to look at specifics for a handful of the most popular destinations:

  • Discovery Cove
  • Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park
  • Disney’s Hollywood Studios
  • Magic Kingdom Park
  • Universal’s Islands of Adventure
  • Universal Studios Florida
  • Universal’s Volcano Bay

Undercover Tourist Crowd Calendar

Hot Tip: The Undercover Tourist Crowd Calendar is a color-coded chart that helps you predict which parks will be more or less crowded on a specific day.

Undercover Tourist mobile app

If you’re headed to Orlando, be sure to download the Undercover Tourist Orlando Planning App, free for iOS . This handy app will take the stress out of trying to navigate the parks on your own with features like an interactive map, up-to-date park information, park plans, and estimated wait times.

The app covers Walt Disney World Resort, Universal Orlando, and SeaWorld Orlando.

The Frog Guarantee and Frog Family Promise

The Frog Guarantee and Frog Family Promise are not price guarantees, rather they’re guarantees of quality and customer service.

The Frog Guarantee

When purchasing amusement park tickets through Undercover Tourist you’ll always receive:

  • Authentic tickets from an authorized seller
  • Free standard shipping
  • No hidden fees
  • 90-day refund/return policy (not applicable to e-tickets)
  • RFID enabled and Genie+ eligible Disney tickets
  • Next-day pickup or delivery availability

Price Comparisons

So, let’s answer the question you really want to know, “Can Undercover Tourist save me money?”

To do this, we priced out some ticket options for 1 adult on Undercover Tourist and compared those to what we could get directly from the park’s website.

In every single example we priced out, Undercover Tourist was the cheapest option! If you’re looking for discounted tickets to Walt Disney World and other popular theme parks, you’ll probably save money by using Undercover Tourist.

Hot Tip: You can NOT use Disney gift cards to pay for tickets through Undercover Tourist. So, if you’ve been collecting gift cards from stores with high points bonuses (like grocery stores ), you’ll need to purchase your tickets directly through the park.

Purchasing tickets to an amusement park can be expensive. So, of course, you’ll want to make sure you’re earning as many points as possible on your purchase.

Amusement park tickets usually code as “entertainment,” so if you’re purchasing them directly, you’ll want to use a credit card that offers bonus categories on entertainment purchases . The Citi Premier ® Card earns 2 points per dollar spent on entertainment purchases, including tickets to amusement parks.

However, purchases from Undercover Tourist code as “travel” which opens up the door to earn points on a variety of different credit cards. These credit cards all earn bonus points on the travel category, which will include amusement park tickets purchased from Undercover Tourist.

Earn 3x points on travel purchases with these credit cards:

  • Ink Business Preferred ® Credit Card
  • Chase Sapphire Reserve ®
  • Citi Premier card

Earn 2x points on travel purchases with these credit cards:

  • Chase Sapphire Preferred ® card
  • Capital One ® Venture ® Rewards card

Hot Tip: If you have an American Express card, check to see if Amex Offers has any current money-back offers from Undercover Tourist.

While Undercover Tourist is known as the place to buy theme park tickets, the site also acts as an online travel agency for booking hotels.

To get started, click on Hotels in the top menu bar. Then select your destination from the drop-down box and enter the number of travelers and your travel dates.

Your search results will be displayed in a format similar to other hotel booking websites that you may be familiar with (like Expedia , Priceline , Hotels.com , etc). Filtering options will be available on the left side of your screen and sorting options are located on the upper right-hand side, above the results.

Undercover Tourist Hotels filtering and sorting

Unlike with tickets on Undercover Tourist, the prices you see initially don’t include tax. You’ll have to click through to the payment page to see the full price with taxes and fees included.

Cancellation policies will vary by the hotel but will be clearly displayed once you add an item to your cart.

Undercover Tourist Hotel cancellation policy

Hot Tip: If you’re traveling to Florida to enjoy the theme parks, check out these places to stay in Orlando for your Disney vacation!

Let’s take a look at a couple of examples to see if booking a hotel through Undercover Tourist can save you money. For both of these examples, we priced out a week-long stay for 2 adults and 1 child. Prices include taxes and fees and are for the hotel stay only (tickets are not included).

The results are typical of most price comparisons we do — they aren’t consistent! Undercover Tourist had the best price for the first option, but Trivago came out with the best price in the second example. The bottom line is that you can definitely save money by using Undercover Tourist for your hotel stay, but not always.

The car rental search functionality on the Undercover Tourist website is pretty limited. You’ll only be able to search for car rentals at Orlando International Airport (MCO) from only 5 car rental companies — Alamo, Avis , Budget , Enterprise , and National .

Undercover Tourist Car Rental

We did a couple of searches to find out if booking your Orlando car rental through Undercover Tourist could save you money. We searched for the cheapest price for a week-long rental on 2 different dates.

In both of these examples, Undercover Tourist came out as the second most expensive option. Interestingly, Momondo  had the lowest price and Priceline had the highest price in both examples.

Undercover Tourist may be a great place to purchase theme park tickets, but it’s not a great option when you’re searching for a rental car.

Undercover Tourist is a popular website for purchasing theme park tickets on the cheap. It also acts as an online travel agency for hotels and car rentals, but only in select cities.

It’s a great site to use to save some money on theme park tickets, but the savings on hotels and cars aren’t as consistent.

Before you head to Disney, check out some of our helpful guides including re-opening plans , packing lists , and even how to visit virtually .

The information regarding the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card was independently collected by Upgraded Points and not provided nor reviewed by the issuer. The information regarding the Citi Premier ® Card has expired and the card is no longer open to applicants.

The Essential Guide to Legoland Florida

(Photo by Edward Pizzarello / The Points Guy)

Update: Some offers mentioned below are no longer available. View the current offers here .

Orlando used to be all about Disney World for many families, but then Harry Potter reinvigorated the Universal Orlando theme parks, and now there are a variety of theme parks and attractions available so you could take a weeklong family vacation in Orlando without stepping foot on a Disney property. One of those newer theme park options in the greater Orlando area is Legoland Florida.

Legoland focuses on -- you guessed it -- all things Lego. If you're wondering whether to include Legoland as part of your next Central Florida vacation, we've got all the information you need to plan a rock-star brick trip.

undercover tourist legoland tickets

Legoland Basics

Legoland Florida is in Winter Haven, Florida, which is southwest of Orlando. When you consider the traffic that can frequently plague the Orlando area, you may want to budget a full hour to drive from Disney World to Legoland. Orlando International Airport (MCO) is a bit further, approximately a 75-minute ride. The ride from Tampa International Airport (TPA) is roughly the same distance, while a ride from Orlando Sanford Airport (SFB) is closer to two hours.

There are no meaningful public transportation options from Orlando to Legoland. However, the park does operate a shuttle from one of the parking garages at Universal Orlando to Legoland. The cost is minimal ($5), but the shuttle only runs once per day in each direction. You can make a reservation and read more about the shuttle schedule on the Legoland website .

Comparatively speaking, Legoland is a small theme park. It can easily be a one-day attraction, and two days is the maximum amount necessary to accomplish just about everything.

undercover tourist legoland tickets

Rides, Shows and Characters

Attractions at Legoland theme park divide into three categories:

  • Duplo Valley for younger kids, generally 5 and under
  • A handful of "thrill rides" that younger kids aren't big enough to tackle
  • Rides everyone can enjoy

Legoland used to be exclusively a one-day park, even with the addition of some attractions in recent years, like Ninjago. This was especially true if you stayed at the on-site Legoland Hotel. Your kids could do most of what Legoland had to offer in one day and spend another half-day or so enjoying the included activities with a hotel stay.

undercover tourist legoland tickets

But with the addition of its waterpark, Legoland can be worth taking two full days to enjoy. The waterpark is enough to occupy almost a full day. With a wave pool, lazy river, slides and interactive areas, there's enough for most children to be occupied from late morning until dinnertime.

undercover tourist legoland tickets

Along with rides, Legoland itself has a couple of shows and Miniland. Miniland is a gigantic Lego village that features massive Lego creations of space shuttles, Las Vegas, New York City and lots of Star Wars. Lego fans young and old will want to spend some time here, for sure.

undercover tourist legoland tickets

Character meet-and-greets occur throughout Legoland. Key characters like Master Wu, Kai and Nya can be found in Ninjago land. There's a dedicated meet-and-greet in the new Lego Movie World. You'll also find some pop-up character meet-and-greet opportunities near some of the retail stores at the main entrance of the park.

In terms of ride height requirements for the more thrilling attractions, they are really all over the place ranging from 36 or 40 inches, up to 48 inches, with many attractions providing one height (or age) requirement to ride solo and another if you are riding with an adult.

Who Will Enjoy Legoland Florida?

Legoland is for all folks who love Lego. Full stop. Every ride in the park has a Lego theme. Pool toys are in the shape of Legos, as are kids' lunch boxes, drink cups and just about everything else you can imagine. There aren't very many thrill rides for older visitors. Legoland became a bit "hipper" for some kids after the Lego Movies came out, so that helps a bit if you have both younger kids and those approaching the tween years.

undercover tourist legoland tickets

When to Visit Legoland Florida

Legoland Florida doesn't see the same push of crowds as the other major theme parks in the Orlando area. Even on the busiest of holidays, you're unlikely to find the sort of insane waits you might see at Disney World . (During slower months, Legoland Florida is not even open every day of the week, so you'll want to check the calendar if you're traveling on off-peak dates.)

If it's spring break, Thanksgiving, Christmas or summer holiday weekends, an early start at Legoland is likely your best chance to ride the most popular rides easily. Some rides have higher occupancy (a typical car on the Ninjago ride holds a dozen riders), which helps keep lines from getting out of control. Miniland and the shows have virtually limitless capacity, along with a handful of large play areas throughout the park. Many folks will also want to stop to shop for Lego sets that can only be found at Legoland.

In short, Legoland is a "chill" of theme parks, relatively speaking. There's no serious advance strategy or 180-day reservations necessary.

undercover tourist legoland tickets

Admission and How to Save

With the addition of the waterpark, Legoland ticket types have gotten a bit more complex. Note that Legoland charges a premium to purchase tickets at the gate, so plan ahead to save a few bucks.

Related: The Best Credit Cards for Entertainment Expenses

Buying Legoland Tickets: You will save some decent dough if you purchase tickets online at least seven days in advance of your trip. Kids under the age of 3 are free and everyone 3 or older pays the same price. Legoland currently offers the following ticket types:

  • 1-day park ticket ($84.99)
  • 1-day park ticket w/water park ($109.99)
  • 2-day park ticket ($104.99)
  • 2-day park ticket w/water park ($129.99)

The theme park also offers flexible tickets that can be used anytime. But they won't represent a good deal for most visitors.

That said, Legoland runs frequent ticket promotions through a variety of outlets. For starters, Lego stores frequently have "Kids Visit Free" tickets when you purchase an adult ticket. The stores have also had 50% discount offers in the past as well. There's also a yearlong free kids discount detailed here .

Annual Passes: As Legoland isn't a weeklong theme park, the annual passes didn't previously represent a great deal. However, with some changes, including the addition of the waterpark, these passes have become a better deal.

  • Awesomer Pass ($169.99)
  • Awesomest "Legoland Gold" Pass ($209.99)

Both passes include the following amenities:

  • Unlimited admission to Legoland Florida theme park and waterpark
  • Free Standard Parking (discount on Preferred)
  • $25 discount on guest tickets
  • 10% discount on dining and merchandise
  • Legoland hotel discounts

The Awesomer Pass gives you access to a handful of other attractions in the Orlando area, whereas the Awesomest Pass includes admission to Legoland California and a bunch of other Merlin attractions, including Legoland Discovery Centers . If you happen to live near a Legoland Discovery Center, daily admission at those runs about $20 per person. A few visits to a Discovery Center or a repeat visit to Legoland within 12 months could make the annual pass worth it, depending on how the price compares to any discounts you can find for traditional park tickets.

Redeem Chase Points for Legoland Tickets: You can also purchase Legoland tickets at Chase's Ultimate Rewards travel portal. Pay cash and earn points or use your Ultimate Rewards points to redeem for tickets at a rate as high as 1.5 cents per point if you have the Chase Sapphire Reserve.

Legoland Florida tickets from Chase travel portal

We searched for tickets for a September trip and were offered adult passes for $82.17 per person or 5,478 Chase Ultimate Rewards points and kids' tickets (ages 3–12) for $77.89 each or 5,192 points. However, this may not be a great deal if you can score free kids tickets by buying elsewhere.

Buy a Go Orlando Card at Costco: If you've got a Costco membership, look into purchasing this two-day pass that offers admission to a variety of area attractions, including Legoland Florida, Kennedy Space Center, Madame Tussauds, Gatorland and more. Adults pay $118.99 and kids 3–12 pay $101.99.

Other Ways to Find Discounted Tickets: If you're a T-Mobile customer, 50% off coupons have been featured on T-Mobile Tuesdays multiple times. Lego Life Magazine subscriptions are free for kids and frequently feature discounted Legoland tickets, as do the catalogs sent by the Lego store. Lastly, Undercover Tourist generally offers a 30% discount on Legoland Florida tickets.

Standout Highlights

Any true Lego fan will want to spend some time hanging out and enjoying the atmosphere in Miniland. Divided into nine distinct areas, the attraction consists of more than 32 million Lego bricks. It includes depictions of three US cities: New York, Las Vegas and Washington, DC — as well as the Daytona International Speedway, Kennedy Space Center, Pirate's Shores and seven of the most famous "Star Wars" scenes.

Don't miss the most popular area in Legoland — the new Lego Movie World, specifically The Lego Movie Masters of Flight. This flying theater is a "Lego-fied" replica of Soarin', one of the most popular rides at Disney World, and it's pretty darn awesome. You'll join a master builder competition aboard a triple decker flying couch that will transport you through The Lego Movie universe. The immersive action comes complete with aromas that match the visuals and motions.

Another popular ride is the Flying School, a roller coaster that's one of the biggest in Legoland. With their legs suspended in the air, kids and adults alike can experience the feel of flying, amped up by thrilling twists and drops.

Something different you won't find in many other parks is the Great Lego Race, a virtual reality coaster. In this ride, you're a racer in an action-packed road rally against a wizard, pirate, pharaoh and surfer Lego minifigures. (Note: The Legoland Florida's website states that the Great Lego Race is operating without VR until further notice.)

Lego Ninjago The Ride, which features animated fireballs, lightning and other special effects is another hit with Lego fans. Team up with or compete against friends and families to score points with your ninja hand moves in this martial arts-themed attraction. Kids under 6 years of age and shorter than 48 inches must ride with a responsible person who is at least 14 years old and 48 inches tall or taller.

How to Minimize Lines

As with most theme parks, the early bird gets the worm. Legoland doesn't generally have super early openings. The park often opens at 10am and closes between 6pm and 9pm. Even with a later opening, you shouldn't find long lines when you first get to the park. Generally speaking, as the day goes on, lines for the most popular rides on the most popular dates can get into the 45 - 60 minute range. However, many lines are 20 minutes or less on an average date for all but the hottest rides.

That being said, there are two main options that allow you to pay extra to cut the line at Legoland Florida: Fastrack 3-Pack and Fastrack Unlimited.

Fastrack 3-Pack is exactly what it sounds like, a cut-the-line pass for three rides:

  • The Great LEGO Race
  • Coastersoarus

undercover tourist legoland tickets

The price for the Fastrack 3-Pack varies from $23.99 to $28.99 per person. Most dates are $23.99, whereas a few peak dates around the holidays are more expensive. While that can be worth it, if I were to spend extra to avoid lines, I'd go ahead and get the Fastrack Unlimited option.

Fastrack Unlimited provides virtually unlimited access to all rides (although the brand-new Lego Movie Masters of Flight attraction can only be ridden once per hour). Pricing starts at $59.99 for most dates, rising as high as $84.99 on peak days around Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's.

If you're really looking for the fastest experience possible, Legoland does offer a variety of VIP tour options. They start between $150 and $200 per hour with a four- or five-hour minimum. Some packages can climb to more than $2,000 per day.

That said, you might find that your kids (OK, maybe even you) won't complain much about the lines. Legoland has a pretty unique, low-tech solution to waiting in line. Most rides have a communal Lego table in the queue. Legoland has designed the line to wrap around the table multiple times so you can keep an eye on your children while they build a creation. Newer rides have more interactive versions. It's a great feature that helps burn the time away so you don't need to blow tons of extra cash on line-cutting extras.

Where to Stay

Staying on-site.

Legoland learned well from Disney World and has invested heavily in hotels that match various Lego themes. There are currently two themed hotels on-site now with a third on the way in 2020.

The original Legoland Hotel is a dream for children. There are two huge Lego play areas in the lobby. The hotel conducts frequent (and free) activities in the lobby, such as a builder's workshop. The elevators light up like a disco -- complete with music -- for your kids to get their dance groove on. You'll also find a decent-sized pool outside with plenty of rubber Lego bricks to build your own water fort.

undercover tourist legoland tickets

This hotel is connected directly to the Legoland theme park with a private security entrance just outside the doors. Upstairs, the hotel rooms have a variety of themes to please even the pickiest kids:

  • Lego Friends

undercover tourist legoland tickets

As you can imagine, hotel rates vary widely based on the season. Rates for a standard room range from $150 per night up to more than $1,000 per night during the holidays (but includes hot buffet breakfast and parking). Depending on what type of room you want, a typical spring break family vacation week will set you back $300 to $400 per night.

Virtually all of the rooms at Legoland Hotel have a separate bunk/trundle bed area for the kiddos so parents can get a little more space and privacy. There are also safes in the room that are locked upon arrival. Your kids will need to successfully complete a scavenger hunt to get the combination to the safe and the goodies hidden inside.

undercover tourist legoland tickets

If you're really into Lego creations, you can pay for a premium-themed room that contain more Lego creations. As the popularity of the hotel has risen, the premium on these rooms is now $170 a night.

Legoland Beach Retreat is located across the street from the main Legoland complex. Designed as small beach cottages, the hotel is spread out over a large, flat area. There is no "beach" in the traditional sense, though the pool is somewhat beach-themed. Each cluster of cottages has a small play area outside.

undercover tourist legoland tickets

The cottages are smaller than the rooms at Legoland Hotel. They still have a Lego theme, but it is not as intricate once inside as the Legoland Hotel. Separate bunk beds are included, though there's less separation/privacy than at the main hotel.

Legoland Beach Retreat has its own breakfast restaurant as well. Other than the pool and restaurant (and a gift shop, of course), you'll need to head over to the main hotel for most other services. Rates for Legoland Beach Retreat tend to run $100 to $150 per night less than Legoland Hotel during peak season, and about $50 less per night during the slower times of year. To use Disney-speak, this is Legoland's version of a "value" or "moderate" hotel while Legoland Hotel is a "deluxe" option.

undercover tourist legoland tickets

Legoland also offers some package deals where you can combine your hotel room with park tickets. However, given how many discounted ticket options there are out there for Legoland, we'd generally advise against purchasing the hotel room/ticket combo packages unless you are sure it saves you money. That said, we whole-heartedly recommend staying at a Legoland Hotel at least for a night, if you can swing the cost, as the hotel experience is (at least) as fun as the park.

Use Points to Stay Near Legoland

If you're looking to use hotel points to stay near Legoland to keep costs down, there are a variety of options nearby including:

  • Courtyard by Marriott Winter Haven: Category 3, from 17,500 Marriott points per night (room with two queen beds, free Wi-Fi and there's a pool)
  • Holiday Inn Winter Haven: from 20,000 IHG Rewards Club points per night (room with two queen beds; up to four kids ages 11 and under can eat for free at the on-site restaurant with a paying adult )
  • Hampton Inn Winter Haven: 30,000 Hilton Honors points per night (room with two queen beds plus free hot breakfast daily, a pool, and Wi-Fi for Hilton Honors members)

undercover tourist legoland tickets

The Courtyard is the newest and closest off-site hotel option, less than a five-minute drive from the entrance to Legoland. Note that while this Category 3 property starts from 17,500 Marriott points for a free night, I see plenty of nights where the hotel costs less than $150 per night, so make sure rates justify using points on your nights.

Seasonal Events

Legoland Florida currently hosts a few seasonal events each year: Brick or Treat takes place on select days in October and involves special characters and trick-or-treating. Happy Holidays at Legoland starts in late November and runs through the end of the year with special shows and decorations. There's also a Kid's New Year party. During the summer, the park hosts Red, White and Boom around the Fourth of July with fireworks, a flag building activity and more.

undercover tourist legoland tickets

Legoland has variable pricing depending on what day you're attending, but you won't need a separate ticket for these events like some of the Disney World special events. Most annual pass holders get complimentary access to these events as well.

Bottom Line

Why should you take the drive from Orlando down to Winter Haven? The obvious answers are Legos, Legos and more Legos. If you or your children love Lego or the Lego movies, there's no place in the world that's more focused on the colorful bricks. What was once a bit of a sleepy theme park has really upped its game by adding some new attractions, multiple themed hotels and a waterpark. The frequent discounts on park tickets make it a much more affordable day than both Disney World and Universal Studios. At least for now, the lack of a fever pitch of crowds also makes a day at Legoland a lot less stressful.

MouseSavers.com reader Martha B points out, “During the week, Legoland allows school groups in. The vast majority of the crowd was indeed school groups (during our visit). This made the park more crowded than on the weekend according to one of the workers I spoke with. It also makes the ride times longer, because on many of the rides the shorter children need an adult to ride. The adult chaperones would stay on the ride over and over as the children swapped out.” So ironically, you may find it’s less crazy on weekends!

Transportation to Legoland Florida and Peppa Pig Theme Park from Orlando

Legoland Florida and Peppa Pig Theme Park are in Winter Haven, which is a good 45 minutes from Walt Disney World or 60 minutes from Universal Orlando. Here’s a rundown of the various options for getting there.

Renting a car for one day is usually the most direct and convenient option for those at Walt Disney World or those staying near Universal Orlando or SeaWorld. You can rent a car just for the day from several locations around the Orlando area, including several on Walt Disney World property. You can read more about the various Walt Disney World rental car locations and other tips and tricks here . Be sure to factor in the cost of park and gas when you’re comparing options.

You can find driving directions to Legoland Florida on their website. The official address is 1 Legoland Way, Winter Garden, FL, 33884, but you may get better results from your GPS or phone app with this fake address: 6001 Cypress Gardens Blvd, Winter Garden, FL, 33884. You can use the same address to get to Peppa Pig Theme Park; they share a parking lot.

Cab/Town Car

This is workable, but extremely expensive. The cost can be $120+ (including tip) to get to Legoland/Peppa Pig Theme Park from Walt Disney World, each way, and $150+ from the Universal Orlando area. A reserved for-hire vehicle is going to be similarly priced.

If the primary focus of your trip is going to be Walt Disney World and you want to take a one-day trip to Legoland or Peppa Pig Theme Park, your best bet is to stay near Walt Disney World and use one of the transportation options we cover above on the day you visit either Legoland or Peppa Pig Theme Park (which is right next to Legoland Florida).

If you plan to spend several days at Universal Orlando and/or SeaWorld Orlando in addition to visiting Legoland or Peppa Pig Theme Park, our recommendation is to stay somewhere in the I-Drive region between Universal and SeaWorld, at least while you visit the parks in those areas. The reduction in travel time will make the trip significantly more enjoyable.

Our overall top pick is Drury Inn & Suites , a MouseSavers Preferred Hotel  with special negotiated discounts. Drury Inn & Suites offers FREE hot breakfast, a FREE “Kickback” light dinner, FREE parking and FREE transportation to Universal Orlando. It is an excellent jumping-off point for the attractions of the I-Drive area, and it’s about an hour and 15 minute drive to Legoland.

If your trip will include multiple days at Universal during peak season, it’s worth considering staying at a  Universal Deluxe Resort to get their special Express Pass .

If you want to go to Legoland and/or Peppa Pig Theme Park for multiple days, you have several options. The Legoland Hotel is located right at the front gates of Legoland Florida. The rooms and public areas are decorated with whimsical Legoland themes and you can’t beat the convenience. The Legoland Beach Retreat is located about half a mile from the front gate of Legoland Florida on Lake Dexter. This resort has a village-style layout with beach-themed bungalows and Lego décor throughout the resort. Each village has an outdoor play area, visible from the bungalow patios.  The Legoland Pirate Island Hotel is located close to the front gates of Legoland Florida. The resort features pirate themed rooms, shows and entertainment and in-room daily treasure hunts for young swashbucklers. All are fun choices for anyone with Lego-obsessed children (or even Lego-obsessed adults).

A Families Guide to LEGOLAND Florida Theme Park

When it comes to pint-sized thrills and family fun in Central Florida, it’s big-name attractions like Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando that usually first come to mind. However, you’ll actually find the Orlando area’s most family-friendly destination a bit further down I-4.

With its imaginative rides and buildings “built” out of colorful LEGO bricks, entertaining shows and hotels designed just for kids, the LEGOLAND Florida Resort is a winner for families with children. Read on as we break down all you need to know about this playful park.

LEGOLAND Orlando, Florida’s Most Awesome, Kid-Friendly Theme Park

Spanning 150 acres, LEGOLAND Park pays homage to generations of brick-fueled fun. With buildings “created” out of those famous bricks around every corner, it really feels like a LEGO world brought to life. But, that’s not the only nostalgic element you’ll find around LEGOLAND.

Housed on what was once Cypress Gardens, Florida’s original theme park, LEGOLAND Florida also offers a more natural escape in the form of a verdant botanical garden. Leftover from the theme park’s charming predecessor, the garden is a slice of Old Florida.

Where is LEGOLAND in Florida?

The LEGOLAND Resort is about an hour- to an hour-and-a-half drive away from Orlando’s theme park central in Winter Haven, Florida. Located at the site of the former Cypress Gardens, Florida’s first-ever tourist attraction, the theme park sits at 1 Legoland Way, Winter Haven, Florida 33884.

When planning your trip to LEGOLAND, be sure to account for traffic. The I-4 corridor can get crazy-busy at all hours of the day and night and accidents are frequent.

Parking at the LEGOLAND Florida Resort

Since LEGOLAND is quite a ways from the Orlando airport and other Central Florida theme parks, chances are good that you’ll be driving there yourself. So, be prepared to pay for parking. Here are LEGOLAND’s current parking fees:

  • Campers/RVs: $32
  • Motorcycles: $12
  • Preferred Parking: $40

Stay at the LEGOLAND Hotels

Not sure where you should stay at LEGOLAND in Florida? While you could choose one of the typical chain hotels near LEGOLAND Florida, keep the brick-inspired, creative fun flowing by staying at one of the LEGOLAND hotels instead. Just like LEGO, these colorful, family-friendly hotels were designed specifically for kids. Plus, they come with a range of perks to please big and little LEGO fans alike, such as:

  • Free breakfast and self-parking
  • Separate sleeping area for kids (with bunk beds!) in every room
  • Outdoor pools
  • A mini-golf course
  • Child-centered activities like in-room scavenger hunts with LEGO prizes, complimentary Creative Workshops with a Master Builder and nightly entertainment, including pajama parties, storytime and trivia

LEGOLAND Florida hotels include:

Pirate Island Hotel

Sail the seven seas as a LEGO buccaneer at Pirate Island Hotel. Just steps away from LEGOLAND Park, this convenient hotel offers all-ye-can-care-to-feast dining served family-style, meet-and-greets with LEGO pirates and much more.

LEGOLAND Hotel

Florida’s hotel ode to LEGO, the LEGOLAND Hotel offers choose-your-own-adventure accommodations. Rooms are available in five different themes: Adventure, Kingdom, LEGO Friends, Pirate or THE LEGO MOVIE.

LEGOLAND Beach Retreat

Nestled about a half-mile from the LEGOLAND Theme Park along the shores of Lake Dexter, what Beach Retreat lacks in convenience, it more than makes up for with charm. Just as vibrant as any island cottage, this downright adorable collection of brick bungalows touts waterfront views and blissful privacy.

LEGOLAND Hours

LEGOLAND Florida hours are both incredibly consistent and all over the place. Although the park opens reliably at 10 AM every day throughout the year, its closing time varies greatly, from as early as 5 PM to as late as 9 PM. So, make sure to check the schedule when planning your visit.

LEGOLAND Tickets & Annual Passes

Whether you’re planning just a day or two of brick-filled fun or hoping to return throughout the year, LEGOLAND Florida has you covered. Depending on how much they want to visit and the parks they’d like to see, LEGO fans can choose between two different admission options: daily tickets (both single and multi-park) and annual passes.

Daily LEGOLAND Florida Tickets

If you and your brick-building crew can only go for one or two days, this ticket option is for you. Guests can choose from one-day to three-day tickets and, if wanted, add on multi-park access. This allows you to hop back and forth between LEGOLAND Florida’s theme park and water park, along with the neighboring Peppa Pig Theme Park, as much as your LEGO-loving heart desires.

Like at Disney and Universal, LEGOLAND tickets use dynamic pricing. In other words, tickets are more expensive during busy times of year, such as holidays or weekends, while traveling during the slow season means lower rates.

Tickets can be purchased either directly at the park for full price or in advance on LEGOLAND’s website for at least 10% off. (Or, keep reading for even more – and better – LEGOLAND discount tickets.) Here are the current advance purchase prices for LEGOLAND Orlando tickets, including taxes and fees:

  • 1-Day, 1-Park Ticket – $93.93 to $115.33
  • 1-Day, 2-Park Ticket – $120.68 to $142.08
  • 2-Day, 1-Park Ticket – $120.68 to $142.08
  • 2-Day, 2-Park Ticket – $131.38 to $152.78
  • 2-Day, 3-Park Ticket – $158.13 to $179.53
  • 3-Day, 2-Park Ticket – $158.13 to $179.53
  • 3-Day, 3-Park Ticket – $174.18 to $195.58

LEGOLAND Annual Passes

Can’t get enough of this family-friendly, brick-built world? Whether you’re a Florida Resident or out-of-state visitor, if you’d like to go to LEGOLAND Orlando as much as you want during the year, you might be better off with an annual pass. The Florida LEGOLAND offers several yearly options, from the resident-exclusive Brick Pass to the ultimate Awesomest Pass.

In addition to unlimited admission (almost unlimited for the Brick Pass – blockout dates apply), LEGOLAND Florida Annual Passes also come with some great benefits, such as:

  • Free parking
  • Admission to LEGOLAND Theme Park events (Brick-or-Treat, Holidays at LEGOLAND, PirateFest Weekends and more), Peppa Pig Theme Park and LEGOLAND Water Park
  • Florida theme park-exclusive collectibles
  • Reserved show seating
  • Discounts on park admission, hotel stays, merchandise, dining and digital photo downloads
  • Free guest passes

Keep in mind that perks, such as a Monthly Pay option for Florida Residents, vary based on which annual pass you choose. Here are the current LEGOLAND  Annual Pass prices when paid in full, including taxes and fees:

  • Brick Pass (Florida Residents only) – $131.38
  • Awesome Pass – $195.58
  • Awesomer Pass – Sold out, $229.99 pre-tax
  • Awesomest Pass – $323.98

Other LEGOLAND Discount Tickets & Deals

Not sold on using Undercover Tourist just yet? There are some other places you can look for deals on cheap LEGOLAND tickets.

Costco is a popular place to score LEGOLAND discount tickets – when they’re available, anyway. Unfortunately, they aren’t always available; and when they are, you typically need to buy them as part of a full vacation package. We’re talking a complete vacation package, complete with flights, hotel nights and a rental car.

AAA offers LEGOLAND tickets at a discounted rate, but since ticket options are region-specific, you may not have access to them depending on where you live and which park you want to go to. Plus, you need to be a AAA member just to access them.

Are you or were you a member of the armed forces? You’re in luck! The LEGOLAND military discount for the Florida theme park is the cheapest of all: Free (or very deeply discounted)! If you’re active duty, just show your military ID at the door. Otherwise, go to the Tickets & Travel office at your base’s MWR

Have a “Brick-tastic” Time at the LEGOLAND Rides & Shows

Wondering what kid-friendly fun LEGOLAND Florida has in store for your next family vacation? Jam-packed with over 50 different LEGO-inspired attractions to choose from, including a playful mix of both rides and shows, LEGO fans of all ages can build the trip of their dreams.

The theme park is split up into several different lands, each styled after some of LEGO’s most beloved product lines and builds. In addition to the LEGOLAND Water Park, they include: The Beginning, Cypress Gardens, DUPLO Valley, Fun Town, Heartlake City, Imagination Zone, Land of Adventure, LEGO City, LEGO Kingdoms, LEGO NINJAGO WORLD, LEGO Technic, MINILAND USA and THE LEGO MOVIE World.

LEGOLAND Florida Rides & Attractions

So, what kind of rides and other attractions are at LEGOLAND Florida? From elaborate playgrounds and the toddler paradise that is DUPLO Valley to approachable roller coasters and carnival-style rides with a “brick-tastic” twist, this creative theme park is about as family-friendly as it gets.

LEGO is all about getting hands-on. And while you can certainly put your construction skills to good use while exploring the park, there’s a whole lot more interactive fun to enjoy at LEGOLAND that isn’t just tinkering with bricks.

Try your luck at LEGO NINJAGO The Ride or Lost Kingdom Adventure, dark rides with a competitive streak, or challenge your strength and power your experience at attractions like Kid Power Towers and the Technicycle. Afterwards, cool off over at the water-filled Battle of Bricksburg or with a cruise on one of the AQUAZONE Wave Racers.

Looking for pint-sized thrills at the LEGOLAND Resort? Florida’s outpost features a number of pink-knuckle attractions (no white-knuckling it here), including four different roller coasters, with minimum height requirements topping out at a mere 44 inches.

Need a break from all that excitement? Take time to explore the park’s beautiful botanical gardens, a lush remnant from when LEGOLAND was actually Cypress Gardens. Then, take a whimsical tour of the United States over at MINILAND USA as you wander past detailed LEGO recreations of iconic destinations, such as the grand monuments of Washington DC’s National Mall, Las Vegas Strip, skyscraper-in-miniature-filled streets of New York City and Florida’s Kennedy Space Center.

LEGOLAND Florida Shows

Wish you could see some of your favorite LEGO characters in real life? At LEGOLAND Florida, you can! Along with character meet-and-greets, you can also take in one of the park’s laugh-out-loud shows. While LEGO MYTHICA 4D – Journey to Mythica, LEGOLAND’s 4D film is a great way to soak up some A/C and rest your feet for a while, our favorite LEGOLAND show is Brickbeard’s Watersport Stunt Show. Featuring everything from wakeboarding and barefoot water skiing to gravity-defying acts like the flyboard and ski pyramid, it’s truly unlike any other theme park show in Central Florida.

And Don’t Miss the LEGOLAND Florida Water Park!

Although it’s technically a separately ticketed destination, one of the best attractions at LEGOLAND Florida is the attached water park . Stocked with a lazy river, wave pool and 14 water slides, there’s no better way to cool down on a hot Orlando day.

Go Shopping at the LEGOLAND Theme Park & Take the Fun Home

In our opinion, hunting for keepsakes can be almost as much fun as going on rides. And what better souvenir for your trip to LEGOLAND than a LEGO building set or other brick-themed merch?

Fortunately, whether you’re searching for exclusive sets, bricks in bulk, one engraved with your name or just a simple t-shirt, you’ll find it all at LEGOLAND Park. There’s even a store geared especially towards girls, Heartlake Mall, that sells items like jewelry and LEGO Friends sets.

LEGOLAND Florida FAQs

Still not sure if LEGOLAND Park in Florida is for you and your family? Here are some answers to some frequently asked questions.

How many days do you need at LEGOLAND Florida?

Although there is a lot to see and do there – including over 50 rides, shows and other attractions – Florida’s LEGOLAND Theme Park is relatively small compared to some of its Central Florida neighbors. In fact, while LEGOLAND recommends a full day to enjoy the theme park, if you want to do it all, you could spend a full two days experiencing absolutely everything. Add in visits to the LEGOLAND Florida Water Park and, if you have a preschooler, the brand-new Peppa Pig Theme Park, and you can expect to spend three to four days at the LEGOLAND Florida Resort.

Does LEGOLAND Florida get crowded?

While it may sit a bit outside Orlando’s typical tourist bubble, the LEGOLAND Resort can still get seriously crowded, particularly when school is out. Spring break, summer and the holidays are especially busy, as are weekends.

With school back in session, September tends to be on the slower side. However, since there isn’t a lot of shade around the LEGOLAND, it can also be quite hot. For a perfect balance of fewer crowds and balmier temperatures, try to travel during late January, February, October, early November and early December.

What is the best age to go to LEGOLAND?

LEGOLAND is designed with 2- to 12-year-olds in mind. In fact, we’d argue that it’s probably the most kid-friendly theme park in Central Florida, along with the new Peppa Pig Theme Park next door. However, we’d say the sweet spot for LEGOLAND Florida is children between ages 4 to 8.

Many attractions have no height restrictions at all, and for the rides that do, most require a minimum of around 32” or, at most, 52”. That being said, compared to some of the rides over at Central Florida’s other theme parks, LEGOLAND’s offerings are comparably tame. So, don’t be surprised if they aren’t enough to keep some older kids and preteens entertained.

Is LEGOLAND Florida fun for teens?

Though teenagers may be unimpressed by many of the attractions at LEGOLAND – especially after a ride on the likes of Universal’s VelociCoaster , SeaWorld Orlando ’s Mako or really any of the roller coasters at Busch Gardens Tampa – there are still a few things around to keep them entertained, like LEGO NINJAGO The Ride, Flying School or The Great LEGO Race (even without the VR). Of course, if that isn’t enough, there’s always the LEGOLAND Water Park.

Can adults go to LEGOLAND Florida without a child?

Unlike LEGOLAND Discovery Centers like those in Dallas and Atlanta, which restrict entry to groups with at least one child, LEGO-obsessed adults are more than welcome at Orlando’s LEGOLAND Theme Park without kiddos in tow.

But, is LEGOLAND Florida worth it for adults, even if they aren’t traveling with kids? It really depends on what you’re into. Though it’s not the park for adrenaline junkies and foodies, as long as you set your expectations accordingly, grown-ups with a penchant for those colorful bricks can still have a fun time snapping selfies, taking in a show or two, zooming around on the handful of roller coasters and scoring an exclusive LEGO set.

Legoland Florida: Tips for the Best Trip Ever!

The Ultimate List of LEGOLAND Tips

We had such as blast on our epic mommy-son date to Legoland Florida ! LEGOLAND Orlando is perfect for any LEGO lover, and they have lots of great details for parents too. I wanted to share all of my favorite Legoland tips, including the best rides at LEGOLAND for young kids, the best places to eat, and where to stay near LEGOLAND . We had such a blast, we will definitely back again soon. (UPDATE: We did go back, every year!)

Why LEGOLAND Florida?

LEGOLAND is a great vacation for kids who love building and using their imagination. I love that LEGO encourages creativity and problem-solving so I’m happy to encourage this obsession as much as possible! LEGOLAND had a good mix of rides and attractions, character appearances, and building with bricks. Be prepared to spend a lot of money on LEGO after you return from a trip to LEGOLAND because LEGO sets will be on the birthday and Christmas lists for the next few months!

LEGOLAND Florida

Reasons we think LEGOLAND is great:

  • Kids who love LEGO will have an awesome time meeting and greeting with their favorite characters
  • A great selection of rides for kids under age 5
  • The park is small enough to do in one day
  • The LEGOLAND Beach Retreat Hotel is an underrated hotel that has a lot of great features for families
  • Compared to Disney, LEGOLAND is so much more affordable and still brings the magic to kids who love to build!

How to get to LEGOLAND Florida

LEGOLAND Florida Theme park is located just an hour outside of the Orlando Airport in Winter Haven, Florida. Unless you live nearby, you will most likely by flying into Orlando to get to LEGOLAND. We always rent a car in Florida because it’s much easier to get to all the attractions this way.

Driving distance from Florida airports:

  • Orlando International Airport: 1 hour | Get Directions
  • Sanford International Airport: 1 hour 30 minutes | Get Directions
  • Tampa International Airport: 1 hour | Get Directions

There is a charge for parking at LEGOLAND. If you are staying in one of the LEGOLAND hotels, parking is included with your hotel charges.

Where to get discount tickets for LEGOLAND

We love Undercover Tourist for the best prices on LEGOLAND tickets. You can visit undercover tourist and buy our discount Legoland tickets here.

LEGOLAND Overview

LEGOLAND Florida is divided into 14 sections. Each themed section offers a variety of rides and attractions. If you are limited on time, you might want to plan out your route in advance so that you can be sure to visit everything on your list.

LEGOLAND Map

LEGOLAND Sections:

The beginning:.

As you enter the park, your first stop is ‘the beginning’. This is where the large LEGO gift shop is and includes a variety of restaurants and other shops.  In order to avoid meltdowns at LEGOLAND, I laid out my souvenir expectations to my son well in advance. He knew he was allowed to pick one new LEGO set and he had to wait until the end of the day to choose it.

Fun town has the LEGO-themed carousel ride and the Wells Fargo 4D theatre. The carousel is perfect for kids of all ages and usually doesn’t have a long line. My son loved the short 4D LEGO movie, the special effects were really cool! This theatre is perfect if you get some rain during your stay.

Heartlake City:

Heartlake city is popular for the thrilling ‘Mia’s Riding Adventure’ ride. Guest s need to be 48 inches to ride, so we didn’t get a chance to try this one out. From the sounds of the screams, it looked like a whole lot of fun!

Miniland USA:

Not to be underestimated, I am always surprised by how much my son loves Miniland. He truly is a LEGO fan, so seeing the bricks in action is right up his alley. Miniland USA is an amazing display of LEGO creations designed to replicate some of America’s most iconic attractions. There are push buttons throughout Miniland which are used for some of the motorized features. Not to be missed, the Star Wars Miniland has some amazing builds of your favorite star wars characters and scenes.

Duplo Valley:

We have traveled to LEGOLAND when my son was 3 and 4.5. My son LOVED Duplo Valley at age 3 but was much less interested in this on our last trip. Certainly, Duplo Valley is geared towards the toddler crowd. Duplo Valley has a few cool rides that are perfect for the youngest LEGO fans including the Duplo train and a Duplo tractor ride.

LEGO Kingdoms:

LEGO Kingdoms houses my son’s favorite ride, “The Dragon,” roller coaster. This coaster has the smallest height limit of 40 inches and is a thrilling ride for kids and adults! Inside LEGO Kingdoms, you will also find a large wooden playground that is a perfect spot to let the kids run off steam while adults take a little rest!

Land of adventure:

Land of adventure is set back in time with prehistoric and adventure-themed rides. Most popular is the wooden roller coaster Coastersaurus. Guests need to be 42 inches to ride this coaster. For the smaller crowd, my son loved the Safari Trek ride where kids ride their own Jeep through a maze of LEGO animals.

LEGO Ninjago world:

Inside LEGO Ninjago world there are a variety of small activities for kids to do. There is a play rock climbing wall and an interactive target game just as you enter Ninjago World. The featured attraction is LEGO Ninjago: The Ride. We rode this ride quite a few times on each trip! There were no lines on either of the days that we went. In this interactive 3D ride guest use their arms to shoot at targets and score points towards defeating Evil in Ninjago world. This was a huge hit with my son!

LEGOLAND Ninjago World

LEGO Technic:

LEGO Technic is home to one of the most popular coasters at LEGOLAND, the great LEGO race. Guests wear VR headsets for an added thrill. Guests must be 48 inches or more for this ride.

Imagination Zone:

Imagination zone is a popular spot to go if you get caught in a quick Florida rain storm . Inside this building, kids can build racing cars and planes to race to the finish line. If your kids love building, this place will certainly be a big hit! Just outside is the Kid-Powered Towers ride. In this ride kids and adults need to use their own strength to PULL themselves up a tower and then enjoy a ‘free fall’ back down. This ride was so much fun and I felt I got my workout in for the day too!!

LEGO City:

LEGO city has some of the most popular attractions in the whole park. Here you will find Boating School, Ford Driving School, and Rescue Academy. Ford driving school was a big hit with my son, especially when he was 3 years old. He loved getting a ‘pretend license’ at the end from members of the crew.

LEGOLAND Driving School

Pirate’s Cove:

Pirate’s Cove is home to the live-action jet ski show performed daily at the park. We caught about 5 minutes of this show and my son was absolutely ENTHRALLED. It was pretty cool to see the LEGO characters out on jet skis doing stunts in the water. This is a great chance to take a break from walking the rest of the park.

Cypress Gardens:

Did you know that LEGOLAND was a different theme park before it was bought by LEGO? Prior to LEGOLAND’s existence in 2011, LEGOLAND was formerly Cypress Gardens theme park. LEGOLAND has kept the botanical gardens of Cypress gardens for guests to enjoy. A perfect way to escape the hustle and bustle of the park!

LEGOLAND Water Park:

LEGOLAND water park is a separate ticketed area. The water park is a lot of fun, especially on a hot day at the park. The Joker Soaker splash area is perfect for young kids and has waterslides for kids 40 inches tall. We also loved the lazy river and the wave pool. See below for more details about the water par.

The Best Rides at Legoland for Younger Kids

We went to LEGOLAND when my son was 3 and 4.5. I think these are perfect ages for the park, and we will probably come back another 2 times when my son is 6 and 7 and can ride the bigger coasters. There is a good selection of rides at LEGOLAND for younger kids, and we didn’t feel like we were missing out on any fun.

If you are looking for a short list of the best rides for kids UNDER 42 inches , these were our favorites:

  • Merlin’s Challenge | Lego Kingdoms | 36 inches
  • The Dragon | Lego Kingdoms | 40 inches
  • The Grand Carousel | Fun Town | With an adult
  • LEGO Ninjago: The Ride | LEGO Ninjago World | With an adult
  • Ford Jr. Driving School | LEGO City | Age 3-5
  • Boating School | LEGO City | 34 inches

LEGOLAND Ford Jr Driving School

Create While You Wait

One added touch that I loved about LEGOLAND was that there were LEGO stations attached to all the lines for the rides so kids could play while you wait. We went in September and then again in October and there were NO lines on any rides. We literally waited no more than 5 minutes for any ride.

undercover tourist legoland tickets

LEGOLAND Water Park

I wasn’t sure if the LEGOLAND Water Park was going to be worth it because my son isn’t tall enough for any water slides at this time. I am SOOO glad we booked tickets to this part of the park! The water park is perfect on a hot Florida day to get a break from the sun. There are lots of fun attractions for kids and adults of all ages. We really enjoyed the wave pool and the lazy river and my son likes riding on the mini slides in the Joker soaker splash pad.

The ‘build a boat station’ literally entertained my son for 60 minutes straight. It was probably his favorite part of the whole park. In this area, you can launch a plastic boat with your own lego creation down a series of water passages ways to the finish. My son did this activity AGAIN and AGAIN.

Duplo Splash Safari is a toddler/preschool area where younger kids can do mini slides.  My son also loved this area. It wasn’t too busy so my son felt more confident going up and down the slides.

The wave pool was SOO MUCH FUN and again my son just couldn’t get enough. There are life jackets available for free and my son loved bobbing up and down in the waves (for me that part was less fun haha!)

We also checked out the lazy river (complete with lego shaped floaties) and the Joker Soaker Water Park area.

Reasons you should get a water park add-on:

  • Florida is hot! Cool down in the water park for a break from the hot sun
  • The wave pool and the lazy river are perfect ways to relax after a busy day on your feet
  • The joker soaker water area and the Duplo splash safari are perfect for younger kids

Brick or Treat Halloween Celebration

We went to LEGOLAND in October which is when they run their annual Brick or Treat Halloween Celebration. Along with all of the regular attractions, there is special Halloween programming and activities that take place during Brick or Treat. One of the favorites was, of course, the trick-or-treating in the park. I was happy that there were some healthy choices including applesauce and yogurt among the other sugary treats. Kids can dress in costume on this day – expect a lot of LEGO-inspired costumes!

At the end of a long day in the park, there was an awesome fireworks celebration at 8 pm. We watched this from LEGOLAND Beach Retreat and it was a great show. I really liked that the time was 8 pm – still early enough to put the kids to sleep at a reasonable hour! We also did Disney on this trip and the Mickey Halloween celebration had fireworks at 10:15 pm. I saw a lot of miserable kids the next day following that late night!

Brick or Treat at LEGOLAND

Where to eat at LEGOLAND

We ate only at LEGOLAND and the hotel restaurants during our 3-night stay. My son and I were there to enjoy the park and I didn’t want to complicate things with traveling outside the resort to eat. In general, the food at LEGOLAND is pretty typical ‘theme park food’, so I can’t say I would ever rave about the food on this trip. When considering where to eat at LEGOLAND, your options are:

Restaurants within LEGOLAND Park

Within LEGOLAND there are several options for dining. There are quick bites throughout the park with typical staples like hot dogs and burgers.  There are also several larger restaurants just as you enter the park, including The Market Restaurant, Pepper and Roni’s pizza shop, and the Pizza and Pasta Buffet.

We ate at the Pizza and Pasta buffet for lunch both days we were in LEGOLAND. My son loves pizza so I knew this restaurant would be a hit and I didn’t want to deal with a grumpy child on vacation. I liked the selection here and found the pizza to be really tasty. Kids 3 and under were free!

If you are looking for a unique LEGOLAND snack, Granny Apple fries are the most famous snack in the park! We tried these delicious fries and they are definitely worth a taste!

LEGOLAND Beach Retreat Restaurant

LEGOLAND Beach Retreat

Beach retreat has a buffet breakfast and a menu style dinner. Breakfast was included in my stay at the Beach Retreat hotel and we ate at the restaurant for dinner one night. I liked the LEGO station that the kids could play at while the grown ups ate their food. The prices were reasonable and I preferred the food here to that of the buffet. Again, the choices were pretty typical ‘American Favourites’.

LEGOLAND Hotel Restaurants

LEGOLAND Sykline Lounge

Bricks Family Restaurant

Bricks family restaurant offers a dinner buffet inside the LEGO hotel. You do not have to be a guest of the hotel in order to eat here.  The dinner buffet has a wide selection and lots of kid-friendly options. It certainly did the trick and my son was very happy to have jello and fruit for dessert!

Skyline Lounge Restaurant

Skyline lounge offers menu service for those who aren’t interested in a buffet. We ate here for lunch one day and it was perfect to be only minutes from the park. Skyline has a large selection of ‘American classics’. My son enjoyed his kid’s meal and I enjoyed a plate of chicken fingers and fries.

Where to Stay near LEGOLAND

If you are planning to do a trip to LEGOLAND, staying at one of the LEGO-themed resorts is the icing on the cake. The hotels themselves are jam-packed with fun activities for kids that you may not even want to leave. There are two choices for LEGOLAND hotels: The Legoland Hotel and Legoland Beach Retreat.

Mostly because I procrastinated and booked our trip late, we ended up staying at the LEGOLAND Florida Beach Retreat. I was worried it wouldn’t be as awesome as the main hotel and I WAS SO WRONG! Having spent time at both hotels during the trip I would always book the Beach Retreat again when I go back.

LEGOLAND Beach Retreat

Hop on over to my full review of LEGOLAND beach retreat . If you want just the highlights, I’ve included them below!

Beach Retreat Pros:

  • Quieter! The Legoland hotel is pretty wild with kids running everywhere. Beach retreat feels like a peaceful oasis. I forgot I was at a theme park and actually felt quite relaxed.
  • Great room setup. The rooms are perfect with a separate area for kids and adults. There is also a playground for kids in the middle of each ‘pod’ of rooms so you can sip your morning coffee and watch your kiddo from your porch.
  • Restaurant: LEGOLAND is clearly not a foodie haven but I thought the breakfast buffet offered a lot of selection to please adults and kids. The restaurant was organized and there weren’t a lot of lines. There is a play area where kids can play (LEGO, of course!) while the parents finish their meals. I thought this was a really nice touch!
  • AHHHmazing pool! The pool area at the beach retreat is awesome. The lego floaties are so much fun and my son loved the sand area for playing with his diggers and toy cars. The water was warm and I really enjoyed being able to relax with my son always in clear sight. It was basically empty too! Score!

LEGOLAND Beach Retreat

Legoland Florida Resort Hotel Pros:

  • Closer to LEGOLAND. We walked from Beach retreat to Legoland on our first day and it took 15 minutes. There is also a shuttle. The LEGO hotel is literally right next to the entrance to the park. Very convenient!
  • More activities: There are more activities at the Legoland hotel for avid fans. There are builder workshops, more character meet and greets and nightly entertainment. Beach retreat has campfires with s’mores but has less in the early evenings.
  • More LEGO! The lobby of the LEGOLAND hotel has huge pits full of LEGO for kids to play in. It is pretty awesome! We would head over to the main hotel before we went to the park to play here for a bit each morning.
  • Buffet Dinner: The LEGOLAND hotel has a buffet dinner which some might prefer over the menu style at the beach retreat. Of course, regardless of where you are staying, you can always eat at either restaurant.

How to book a LEGOLAND Package?

I love Booking.com for finding the best deals on hotel stays. They offer both the Beach Retrea t and the main hotel and you can add on tickets to your stay. You can also check out the Legoland website to compare.

Have you been to LEGOLAND? What did you love? What did you hate? Don’t be shy! Drop me a line in the comments below and let me know your experience. I would love to hear from you about your experience at LEGOLAND.

Saturday 18th of November 2017

I’ve only been to legoland California but I think it’s better than disney for the three and under crowd. There are so many toddler-friendly rides and it is far less overwhelming. It sounds like the Florida legoland is the same, which is awesome to hear! I’ll check it out next time we are in Florida.

Yes! We haven’t done Disney yet but holding out for the kids to be a bit older! Would love to check out the Legoland in California sometime too :)

As Disney Prices Soar, Here’s Why Families Prefer Legoland Florida

Posted: May 9, 2024 | Last updated: May 9, 2024

As Disney Prices Soar, Here's Why Families Prefer Legoland Florida

Disney Theme Parks will always have a special place in families’ hearts around the world. But the visitor experience has changed dramatically. The cheapest Walt Disney World ticket in 2025 will be $119 per day per person.

That’s why families are turning to the other award-winning Orlando theme parks, which are big on family fun but more wallet-friendly. Even setting the cost aside, families prefer days with LEGO’s Emmet to Disney’s Elsa.

Disney's No Longer the Top Park - The Tropical Oasis Experience Voted Orlando’s Best Theme Park

What if I told you about a place in Orlando near it all, but feels like you’ve been whisked to a tropical island? A day destination that’s nestled in between resorts and iconic theme parks but feels worlds away from the crowds and long lines of America’s vacation capital.

A place where you can relax and explore rocky lagoons, and reefs teeming with fish, float down winding rivers with birds flying overhead, and stick your feet into soft white sandy beaches amidst lush island-like landscaping. You genuinely feel like you’re on a Caribbean vacation right in the heart of Orlando.

So if you’ve missed Black Friday offers, you still have time to lock-in sale prices at the beginning of each year. Last Wave Season, MSC offered deals worth $1,000 for shorter cruises and $2,000 for 7 days cruises for a family of four. </p> <p>However, sign up for the cruise line’s email list to be notified of mid-year offers. </p>

Many Americans Don’t Know The World’s Third-Largest Cruise Line – We Sailed MSC to The Caribbean to See What It’s Like

More than 35 million travelers will cruise this year, and many of them are sailing with MSC Cruises around the world. Relatively new to the American vacationer, this family-owned line started offering U.S. cruises in 1998 but has become more popular in North America in the past couple of years.

So, this Spring Break, my daughter and I took a 3-night cruise from Cape Canaveral Florida to the Caribbean to see for ourselves why so many Americans are hitting the sea for vacation, and increasingly with MSC Cruises.
