About Tom Meighan

Tom Meighan is an English rock singer and former lead vocalist of Kasabian.

Enjoying large-scale success with Kasabian in the 2000s and 2010s, Meighan has been compared to Liam Gallagher, whom Tom himself has referred to as the “perfect frontman.”

Meighan was a founding member of Kasabian along with guitarist Sergio Pizzorno, bassist Chris Edwards, and drummer Ian Matthews, with the band releasing their eponymously titled debut album in 2004. Topping the British album’s chart, ‘Kasabian’ was a critical success too, and six more bestsellers were to follow.

Known for his energetic and charismatic performances, Meighan has been praised for both his powerful vocals and his ability to connect with a live audience.

In 2013, Tom Meighan was ranked number 13 on Radio X’s list of the greatest frontmen of all time.

Thursday 6th April Cheese and Grain, Frome £26 advance (+ standard service charge)

Former Kasabian frontman Tom Meighan is back with live dates in 2023 with the release of his album ‘The Reckoning’, following brilliant live reviews and sold out Christmas shows.

“Tom Meighan has sold four million albums. He’s headlined Glastonbury, Reading And Leeds twice and most other major festivals in Europe. He’s had five No 1 albums and sung on classic anthems, streamed millions of times, as the lead singer of Kasabian. But now it’s time to start again.

What Tom Meighan hasn’t done in his career until now is write songs. And the early results of Tom’s song writing are magnificent.

What’s new are a broad range of styles. In addition to the rock power and pounding groove of Kasabian, you’ll hear a blissed-out euphoria, a tenderness and a lyrical depth resulting from a period of emotional maturity.

The first taste of Tom’s solo music is Would You Mind. Rather than simply stream it, it’s a semi-acoustic anthem Tom wanted people to be able to own for nothing as a free download, to raise awareness of mental health.

A born frontman with an unmatched ability to get a crowd jumping, Tom’s natural enthusiasm means he can’t wait to return to the stage.

Joining Tom in his band are keyboardist/guitarist Bnann Infidel, guitarist Chris Haddon, bassist Ele Lucas, guitarist Brodie Maguire and drummer Gareth Young.

Musically, this time, the songs will come from Tom’s soul. Get ready for an electrifying return.” John Earls 2022

“The Reckoning” will be released in April 2023.

Tom Meighan rocks Shepherd’s Bush Empire with debut album The Reckoning preview

Tom Meighan at Shepherd's Bush Empire

Would You Mind, Shout It Out, Club Foot, Fire

In a night of passion, energy and musical prowess, Tom Meighan’s performance at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire did not disappoint. Ahead of the release of his debut solo album, The Reckoning , Meighan treated fans to an electrifying setlist that showcased his unmistakable voice and stage panache.

The moment Meighan stepped onto the stage, clad in sunglasses, a stylish blue coat, white t-shirt and jeans, the crowd erupted. It’s evident that his time away from Kasabian has left fans craving his charismatic presence.

Opening the show with Shout It Out , a groovy track from his upcoming album, Meighan set the tone for the evening. The song’s obsessive lyrics, “again, again, you give me back the feeling,” had the audience on their feet, jumping and singing along from the very beginning.

As the night progressed, the electric atmosphere intensified, especially during Kasabian classics such as Underdog , Shoot the Runner and Empire . Meighan remained focused on his performance, barely speaking between songs. However, he did pause briefly between Scared and Rise to say: “We’re going straight to the fu**ing top, we’re back, I’m fu**ing back.”

It’s clear that fans are overjoyed to see Meighan return to the stage. His new, more intimate tracks like Scared and Would You Mind offered glimpses into a side of him we haven’t seen before. The latter song seems like a plea for reconciliation with former bandmate Pizzorno, echoing the dynamic between the Gallagher brothers.

The evening reached a fever pitch as Meighan powered through a final sequence featuring LSF , Club Foot and Fire in the span of four songs. During Club Foot , he donned his sunglasses once more, and as the LSF middle-eight chants echoed through the venue, he held the mic stand high, uniting the crowd.

With a setlist that balanced new material and Kasabian favourites, Tom Meighan’s performance at Shepherd’s Bush Empire confirmed his status as one of the UK’s best rock frontmen. As fans eagerly await the release of The Reckoning on 5 th May, one thing is certain: Tom Meighan is back.

WILL EMBARK ON 20-DATE UK TOUR IN APRIL

INCLUDING LONDON’S SHEPHERD’S BUSH EMPIRE ON 28TH

“It’s hard to express what having the opportunity to make this album means to me. I’ve called it ‘The Reckoning’, because I have had to have a reckoning with myself. I know it’s a cliché to talk about the creative process as catharsis, but this really has been for me. It’s not just music; parts of it are my soul, my life up until now, my old life and my new one. I tried to pour everything in my head into this collection of songs; the highs, the lows, the light and the dark in me. I feel vulnerable and invincible all at once, I hope you get that when you listen to it.” – Tom Meighan

Nearly 3 years after departing Kasabian, Tom Meighan returns with The Reckoning, his first solo album, released on 28th April 2023. On the night of the 28th he will end a 20-date UK tour headlining Shepherd’s Bush Empire. Lead single ‘Everyone’s Addicted To Something’ is out today. He will support Noel Gallagher at Audley End on 5th August.

It’s been 20 years since Tom Meighan signed his first record deal with Kasabian at the age of 21. He sold four million albums, celebrated 5 consecutive number one albums and was awarded, amongst many others, a BRIT Award, 7 NME Awards, 5 Q Magazine Awards, a Mojo award and a Music Week Award. He headlined Glastonbury, V Festival and Reading and Leeds twice, along with most other major European music festivals. He toured the world, relentlessly. And it took its toll. Tom elaborates, “I had all the bravado that you need as a lead singer of a rock band. On stage, I felt like a Jedi Knight — tuned in and let loose. But underneath it all, I was a ticking time bomb. Of course, I couldn’t see it clearly. When we were first signed in 2002, it felt like one long party.

I was 21, got a record deal, and was touring the world with my mates. It feels like the great adventure and you live for it. But no one talks about what’s really going on emotionally. I’ve always struggled with my mental health; it’s no secret. I’ve also suffered from anxiety since I was a kid. It’s actually my nervous energy that you see onstage, not cocky swagger. But the lifestyle made me worse. I was pushing everything down with drink and drugs — suppressing my feelings. I ignored every red flag. For a long time, I knew something was wrong, really wrong in my head. But I didn’t check myself. That’s till I hit rock bottom.” Rock bottom. Alcohol and drug addiction, an unsuccessful stint in rehab mid-US tour, a sense of being pushed out of his own band, suicidal ideation, lockdown and a very public court case at which Tom pleaded guilty. In his own words: “It makes me feel sick every time I think about it. I didn’t recognise myself anymore. I hurt the woman I love. There are no excuses for what happened. I’m deeply ashamed of what I did. Anyone who knows me knows that it’s not in my nature to be violent and it had never happened before. But my failure to address the issues within myself led me to breaking point.” Vikki has supported Tom throughout, disagreeing with police and court proceedings, and they are now married. Tom continues, “That night, I rightly lost everything: my home, my job, and people around me. I was sacked and shunned. The reality of what I’d done repulsed me. I pleaded guilty straight away to everything. The shock set in. I was shaken to the core. I felt deep, deep shame. I didn’t realise I was unwell, but Vikki saw what I couldn’t. I have never been arrested before, or been in any trouble with the police or anyone. I could not bear the thought that Viks was frightened or that she had been hurt. To this day, I struggle with how I made her feel that night. I will always have to live with that. I went to rehab — I’d tried rehab before, maybe I wasn’t ready for it earlier, but this time it clicked. I got sober. With the support of my family and friends, every day clean and sober is a victory.”

Tom has served 200 hours of community service, successfully attended rehab, has regular therapy and is working with the male suicide charity Andy’s Man Club. He’s looking to the future. Speaking about the process of writing the album, Tom says, “It’s the first time I’ve been able to truly collaborate in the song-writing process and I’ve poured blood, sweat and tears into it. The whole experience has been such a roller coaster of highs and lows, nobody should underestimate what being able to make this album has meant to me personally, and I think that comes across on the record.”

The results of Tom’s songwriting are magnificent. Whatever the reasons Tom didn’t contribute to the songwriting in Kasabian, it wasn’t down to lack of talent. The confidence and ability to sing an earworm with passion and charm remain in Tom’s new songs. What’s new are a broad range of styles. In addition to the rock power and bulletproof bangers of his former band, you’ll hear a blissed-out euphoria, a tenderness and a lyrical depth resulting from a period of self-reflection and emotional maturity. Talking about new single Everyone’s Addicted To Something, Tom says, “it pretty much sums up my personality; I’m addicted to something all the time. In therapy, I was diagnosed with ADHD. I’ve always had a lot of energy and it’s hard for me to focus. I can be intense about one thing in particular and obsess over it. For so long, it was singing and music I’d fixate on. The ADHD diagnosis made sense of my way of thinking. It was a relief to know what had been wrong with me. I also got the right medication for my anxiety. These days, I’m happy to say, with the support of my loved ones, I’m able to focus my addictions on positive things. This song is about when I first met my wife. It’s also a song about being human, and ultimately finding something good to lean on. I guess it’s about love at the end of the day.”

Tom knows he has a lot to prove. “Some people think I don’t deserve to ever be rehabilitated for what I did. I’m conflicted when it comes to cancel culture. Giving up on people doesn’t help anyone. If someone feels cancelled, sometimes all you end up doing is pushing their problem into the shadows. It’s just another form of bullying, because you’re not helping them or showing them how to change. I agree with consequence culture. It’s important to suffer consequences because of your actions. To be given the chance to look deep within yourself and learn how to make changes and to become a better person for yourself and your family has to be a good thing. If anything I have to say helps someone before they reach their breaking point, I think that has to be a good thing. Maybe my story can inspire others struggling and using alcohol to fix problems, to know that you can stop the cycle. It’s possible to turn your life around. There is always a way to get to the other side of the mountain: maybe not over the top, you might have to go around the side, but you can get there. You just have to try. With help and understanding, anyone can change.”

One in 3 men in the UK have experienced suicidal thoughts, and the biggest killer of men in the UK under 50 is suicide. “I know a lot of guys like me grew up in a world where men are not celebrated for getting deep, being open, vulnerable, and taking on their demons, or working hard to be better, but it’s what every man needs to do. If we don’t communicate, we can end up drowning. If I had been able to get real help earlier, like I did with the probation service, things would never have got to the crisis point they did. It’s a journey; it’s not just about reinventing yourself. Sometimes, it can feel like a daily battle to confront issues. It takes hard work. I stay sober a day at a time. But it’s worth it. Just make sure to ask yourself, honesty — are you alright? And if you’re not, reach out for help.” A born frontman with an unmatched ability to get a crowd jumping, Tom returned to playing live shows last year. “Performing these new songs live too has been such a privilege,” he says. “The support of the fans in Glasgow, Sheffield, and Leicester before Christmas was truly humbling. I can’t wait to get back on the road in April in support of the album’s release. I’m addicted to being on stage all over again.”

Joining Tom in his band are keyboardist/guitarist Bnann Infadel, bassist Ele Lucas, guitaristBrodie Maguire and drummer Gareth Young.

Tom Meighan performing his The Reckoning Tour at Rock City Nottingham on Thursday 13th April 2023.

Images and Review by Kevin Cooper

It has been a very difficult time and a very different journey for Tom Meighan since he was sacked two and half years ago as the front man of the hugely successful band, Kasabian. And on Thursday night he took to the Rock City stage on the first leg of his solo career.

Dapperly dressed and looking every bit the rock and roll star in dark sunglasses, he came on, stood arms aloft and launched into new song Shout It Out, showing instantly that he is ever the front man that he always was.

The crowd may have been small in numbers but when the opening guitar salvo for Kasabian’s Underdog, blasted around the room, there were massive cheers from his loyal followers, who had their hands in the air belting out the lyrics.

The set list of this aptly named The Reckoning Tour showcased the incredibly inspirational songs that he has written during his personal difficult time. Songs such as Would You Mind with its haunting melody and heartfelt lyrics was a real highlight, whilst other new songs such as Acrobat, Scared, Rise, Everyone’s Addicted and Better In The Dark were bombastic rip roaring rock songs with big tune choruses.

With all of the swagger of Liam Gallagher, Meighan is still a mesmerising front man, and with his five piece band giving off immense energy, the whole set was youthful and lively. And when the Kasabian classics such as the explosive Shoot The Runner, Ill Ray (The King), the anthemic Empire and Club Foot that ended the main set, the crowd were as boisterous as ever.

The title track from his Movin’ On EP opened the encore before he closed the set with the absolute banger from Kasabian, Fire.

Two and a half years is a long time in the music industry and people have long memories. But Meighan showed that he still has the ability to get a crowd jumping and his enthusiasm for his craft means he is exactly where he should be, on the stage.

THE MERCIANS

The Mercians are making noise across the Midlands with their ‘Sam Fender meets Catfish and the bottlemen’ tones. People continue to argue if the north or the south has the better music scene. Well here is your answer… NEITHER! “We are bringing Indie back to the Midlands!” you can hear them scream up on stage, as a Midlands army scream back. This is music, politics, and hardcore partying roled into one talented bunch of musicians.

Their latest track ‘Just Like You’ – A track about the human struggle to fight addiction, whether it’s drugs, alcohol, or even social media is out November 4th.

TOM MEIGHAN + Special Guests – SOLD OUT!

tom meighan the reckoning tour

Starts: 7:30 pm

“Determined to make a fresh start, this is the best answer a newly focused Meighan could give on where his future belongs.” – 4/5 Classic Pop

“hyper-energetic rabble-rousing. Opener Rise could be a Kasabian track. It’s powered by a driving groove, exploding into rock riffs and fist pumping vocals. Kasabian fans will love the stomp of Everyone’s Addicted To Something and the full-throttle Daytona Racing. The crooning vocals of the title track reveal a man who has done a lot of soul searching and the result is a slow burn epic, burning with emotion.” – The Sun

“Tom Meighan’s performance at Shepherd’s Bush Empire confirmed his status as one of the UK’s best rock frontmen. As fans eagerly await the release of The Reckoning on 5th May, one thing is certain: Tom Meighan is back.” – 4/5 The Upcoming

“I wonder if this might be a long-lost cousin of one Liam Gallagher… Here is a man determined to press on with his career, whatever hurdles he has tripped over. He is a frontman with some front, recognised as one of the best in that position, up front on his own… If you missed the show, including the indoor fireworks, you missed a night out with the lads from the terraces, with Tom Meighan, still as their leader. The Top Boy.” – Louder Than War

TOM MEIGHAN, who is currently in the studio busy writing his second solo album, announces 20-date March 2024 Acoustic Tour. These intimate shows will be the first time that Tom has ever toured acoustically. These dates follow three electric headline shows in December and a UK Arena Tour with Noel Gallagher.

Tom Meighan released his first solo album The Reckoning, in May. It hit the Official midweek chart at #2, behind Ed Sheeran. It charted at #2 in the Indie chart, #3 in the Vinyl chart, #3 in the Download chart, #3 in the Physical Artist chart and #6 in the CD chart and #17 in the Official chart. He shared five tracks prior to its release – title track The Reckoning, Everyone’s Addicted To Something, Movin’ On, Shout It Out and one of Tom’s earliest solo tracks and a live favourite with fans Would You Mind, which is featured on the deluxe album. He went on to share the video for album track Don’t Give In and most recently released The Summer Sessions, two new tracks that didn’t quite make it onto the album.

Earlier this year he played a 16-date UK tour, has performed at various festivals throughout the summer and he supported Noel Gallagher at Audley End on 5th August.

Tom’s troubles have been well documented since he departed Kasabian three years ago. Addiction, remorse, recovery, redemption are themes that run deep on Tom’s magnificent solo album. Whatever the reasons he didn’t contribute to the songwriting in Kasabian, it wasn’t down to lack of talent. The confidence and ability to sing an earworm with passion and charm remain in Tom’s new songs. What’s new are a broad range of styles. In addition to the rock power and bulletproof bangers of his former band, there is a blissed-out euphoria, a tenderness and a lyrical depth resulting from a period of self-reflection and emotional maturity.

A born frontman with an unmatched ability to get a crowd jumping, Tom’s sights are firmly set on the future.

Joining Tom in his band are keyboardist/guitarist Bnann Infadel, bassist Ele Lucas, lead guitarist Chris Haddon, guitarist Brodie Maguire and drummer Gareth Young.

CONCERT REVIEW : Tom Meighan Garage Glasgow 14th December 2022

tom meighan the reckoning tour

Hot on the heels of announcing his debut solo LP, “The Reckoning”, Tom Meighan took to the stage in Glasgow’s Garage last week for the first of three sold out UK solo shows.

Meighan cut a confident figure, strutting on to a raucous reception before ripping into “Out Of This World”, already shaping up to be an anthem with punters. However, his cocksure stance wavered when he held his mic out prompting the crowd to sing the chorus, his eyes sliding briefly closed in a sigh of quiet relief when they chanted their hearts out. Meighan’s set was seasoned with a slice of solo things to come; “Let It Ride”, “Don’t Give In”, “Would You Mind”, and “Deep Dive”, tracks, although fresh, have already found a home with his fans.

As with most frontmen turned one man bands, it was the airing of Kasabian tracks which whipped the place into a frenzy; “Empire”, “LSF”, “Shoot The Runner”, “Club Foot”, and particularly “Underdog”, which has taken on a new lease of life giving the very public and personal parting of Meighan from the band with which he made his name.

A subtle nod to the late, great Keith Flint came at the opening of “Thinking On Our Feet” with a short sample of The Prodigy’s “Breathe”.

If Meighan housed any fears about taking the stage solo, it didn’t show; he is every inch the rock ‘n’ Roll showman and lapped up every second of the hysteria of his paying public. Meighan couldn’t stop expressing his gratitude and although his “I fucking love you, Glasgow” became grating after the 6th or 7th time, he stated it with such warmth and humility that it simply served as a reminder why Glasgow fucking love him.

Meighan is a man who has fought his way back from the brink against a backdrop of “cancel culture” where careers have been shattered for less, and there is no doubt he doesn’t take a second of it for granted.

Closing with one of Kasabian’s most iconic tracks, Meighan bowed out reminding everyone that he really is on fire.

Tom Meighan’s debut album, “The Reckoning” is available in April 2023.
