For the Ultimate Dolly Parton Experience, You Can Now Book a Stay on the Music Legend’s Tour Bus
By Regan Stephens
When she’s not dazzling audiences in sold out concert halls or hosting the Country Music Awards, Dolly Parton spends much of her time traveling aboard her beloved tour bus. But as of today, fans can book a stay in the music legend’s home on the road to experience firsthand how she traversed North America en route to performances, benefits, and Dollywood .
“Now we're using the bus as a suite, renting it out to people to see how we live on the road,” Parton tells Condé Nast Traveler .
Dubbed Suite 1986 as a nod to the year Dollywood opened, the tour bus is stationed at the theme park’s DreamMore Resort and Spa in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Parton famously prefers highways to flying, and spent the past 15 years living and writing music while on board, including dozens of songs like “Backwoods Barbie” as well as the hit Broadway show 9 to 5: The Musical .
The tan and silver Prevost coach is kitted out with a jewel-tone color palette and Parton’s custom requests, including creature comforts like a bathtub, full-sized refrigerator, and a designated wig closet where she kept the signature accessories she wore for concerts and shows. The inside walls of the bus are also customized—hand painted with murals of dancing wayfarers, musicians, crystal balls, and covered wagons. The musician once called the bus her favorite home.
The tour bus suite includes a full-sized refrigerator, hand-painted mural's and Dolly's wig closet.
The three bunk beds tucked into a wall between the front of the bus and the back bedroom are where Parton’s nieces and nephews slept when they traveled with her. While the bus model usually comes standard with six bunks, three were removed to make more room for the musician’s wardrobe closet. Past the bunk beds, a black button opens an electric door to Parton’s living quarters, with her full-sized bed, gold cabinetry, and television. From sequin-embellished swathes ceiling to tassel-trimmed pillows and window treatments, the whole bus is decked in glitzy touches befitting the larger-than-life icon.
Helmed by longtime driver Tim Dunlap, the bus traveled roughly 360,000 miles, stopping in more than 60 cities in the U.S. and Canada on Parton’s 2016 Pure & Simple Tour alone. But one of its most common routes was from her home in Nashville to Pigeon Forge, just a few miles from where she grew up.
Starting at $10,000, the Suite 1986 Tour Bus Experience includes a two-night stay, and an additional DreamMore Resort guest room to accommodate four more guests. (A portion of proceeds from each stay will go to The Dollywood Foundation.) Also included: dedicated concierge service and exclusive Suite 1986 keepsake swag—like embroidered towels, robes, and slippers—to remember the glimpse into Dolly Parton’s life on the road.
You Can Now Book a Stay in Dolly Parton's Legendary Tour Bus
Here you come again...
"I have homes all over the United States, but my favorite place is the bus because that way I can just feel those wheels rolling; I’m a true gypsy at heart," Dolly wrote on the suite's listing page.
While Dolly's Suite 1986 offers once-in-a-lifetime stay, it's not exactly cheap. Currently, the two-person space cost $10,000 per night—and requires a two-person minimum. (That said, the stay comes with an additional guest room that can accomodate four people. Plus, in true Dolly fashion, profits from every stay is donated to the Dollywood Foundation.) But, just in case a stay is a tad out of your budget, we're offering an intimate look at the suite.
Though Dolly could access some of the finest hotels around the globe, she preferred to stay in her tour bus. Not only did that allow her to be close to all her favorite things, but it was also an excellent place to get some serious writing done. (Fun fact: She wrote albums like Backwoods Barbie and 9 to 5: The Musical .)
Living Area
Dolly gave the typical tour bus a homey touch with features like electric doors and a bathtub. She also added a full-sized refrigerator, which is a rarity for tour buses.
The entire bus is covered in hand-painted murals of wayfaring wanderers, wagons, and crystal balls—all of which are meant to depict the life of a traveling singer. (The result? A gorgeous view that will almost rival the reflection you see in her vanity setup.)
This magenta boudoir provides a surprisingly soothing place to get some shut-eye on the road. But, when you're ready to start the day, you can easily tumble out of bed, stumble in the kitchen, and pour yourself a cup of ambition.
While most standard tour buses have six bunk beds, Dolly opted for three so she could have ample closet space. From on-stage attire to her post-show clothes, Dolly's digs are nothing short of stylish.
Wig Cabinet
The perfect finishing touch? A designated cabinet for storing wigs. As Dolly famously said herself, "Im not offended by all the dumb blonde jokes because I know I'm not dumb... and I also know that I'm not blonde."

“I decided to retire it because I wasn’t touring that much anymore and it just was sitting there,” said Parton . “And I thought this could be put to really good use.”
The elaborately decorated tour bus sleeps two and costs guests $10,000 for a two-night stay. A portion of the profits from each stay will go to the Dollywood Foundation and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. The reservation also includes a DreamMore Resort guest room to accommodate up to four additional guests.
“If you’ve got money—and a lot of people do,” added Parton, “they just want to experience that.”
Suite 1986 guests will also enjoy a dedicated concierge service, exclusive swag, and a dining menu. Parked in a gated space just outside the DreamMore Resort, Suite 1986 is also within close proximity to Dollywood restaurants and amenities.
I sure do miss my tour bus, but it’ll be a great place to stay for our guests. There are memories in every nook and cranny; Suite 1986 is as close as you can get to living out my touring days! #DollyComesHome pic.twitter.com/QCCsELpPR1 — Dollywood Parks & Resorts (@Dollywood) June 24, 2022
Customized to accommodate the Queen of Country, the 45-foot bus broke 360,000 miles driving 13 years cross-country and was originally designed by Parton and her sister to give “an authentic look into her colorful interpretation of life on the road,” according to a descriptor in the Dollywood history.
Set in mostly floor-to-ceiling pink and purple decorations, hand-painted murals also adorn the interior walls and of the bus along with crystal balls, fitting the “Gypsy Wagon” decor. The bus was also updated with electric doors, a bathtub, a wig cabinet, and a full-size refrigerator. A bunk bed was removed to make room for Parton’s closet of costume jewelry, Christian Louboutin shoes, and glittering gowns, which are on display like a mini-museum inside the bus.
“I have homes all over the United States, but my favorite place is the bus because that way I can just feel those wheels rolling,” said Parton, who preferred taking a bus over flying when on tour. “I’m a true gypsy at heart.”
On board, Parton would often make sandwiches for her entourage and wrote most of her 2008 album Backwoods Barbie as well as 9 to 5: The Musical.
“We’ve had lots of wonderful memories of people that would come on the bus to visit when we traveled around—dignitaries, stars, everybody,” said Parton, “but all the memories are special to me.”

You Can Spend The Night In Dolly Parton's Former Tour Bus
“I have homes all over the United States, but my favorite place is the bus.”
One of the coolest Dolly Parton attractions out there has parked itself in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, and for a pretty penny, you can experience it for yourself. The country legend's former tour bus, now known as Suite 1986 at Dollywood DreamMore Resort & Spa, is taking reservations. That's right y'all, Parton's longtime tour bus, the "Gypsy Wagon," has served as the ultimate hotel suite for two since 2022.
"(I) decided to retire it because I wasn't touring that much anymore and it just was sitting there," Parton told the Knoxville News Sentinel in June 2022. "And I thought this could be put to really good use."
The 45-foot Prevost bus was the legendary singer's home away from home as she trekked 360,000 miles across the country between 2008 and 2022. It's also where she penned dozens of songs and worked on a number of hit projects.
"I have homes all over the United States, but my favorite place is the bus because that way I can just feel those wheels rolling; I'm a true gypsy at heart," Parton said in a press release.
What Is Dolly Parton's Tour Bus Like?
It was important to the singer, who does not enjoy flying, that the bus was comfortable and could accommodate long trips. As such, her home on wheels includes a couch, kitchen, dining table, two separate toilets, a tub, a large bedroom, and heaps of customizations. Parton had the bus modified to include a full-size refrigerator, electric doors, and a wig cabinet . The walls feature murals depicting life on the road and the bedroom is decked out in floor-to-ceiling pink and purple decor.
"Dolly almost always stayed in her bus instead of a hotel room, as she preferred to have her own space, food and belongings," a Dollywood news release notes.
How Much Does It Cost?
The price tag matches the one-of-a-kind stay. The Suite 1986 Tour Bus Experience is a two-night minimum and starts at $10,000 (an additional resort room that sleeps four is included in the package). In true Dolly fashion, a portion of the proceeds from every stay will be donated to the Dollywood Foundation and Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. You'll get to feel like you've immersed yourself in Dolly Parton's life and know that you're giving to a good cause.
"If you've got money—and a lot of people do—they just want to experience that," Parton said.

How did Dolly Parton spend her time on the tour bus?
Parton traveled an estimated 360,000 miles in the 45-foot Prevost from 2008-2022. She said the suite really reflects how she lived while on the road.
She wrote several songs and albums on the bus, according to Dollywood Parks & Resorts, including "Backwoods Barbie" and "9 to 5: the Musical."
Much of her time there was spent doing ordinary things, too. She watched TV, reheated meals she cooked at home, and kept her show clothes and show wigs on the bus.
Because she almost always stayed on the bus instead of a hotel and does not enjoy flying, the bus had to feel like home during her tours.
“I loved all my time on the bus, I was traveling with my friend Judy (Ogle), my best friend from Sevierville. We’ve been friends since we were in the third grade and we just traveled all those miles together," Parton said. "But we’ve had lots of wonderful memories of people that would come on the bus to visit, when we traveled around, dignitaries, stars, everybody, but all the memories are special to me."
She often traveled from her home in Nashville to places like Los Angeles or her hometown in the Great Smoky Mountains.

Dolly Parton just turned her glittery tour bus into the ultimate Tennessee hotel suite
For about 15 years, Dolly Parton — the Queen of Country Music and probably the closest thing we have to a living angel — lived much of her life on a Prevost tour bus crisscrossing the country.
It was on that bus, between 2008 and 2022, that Dolly wrote the "Backwoods Barbie" album and "9 to 5 The Musical," and traveled to more than 60 cities on the "Pure & Simple" tour. (This included a stop in New York City where I sang my heart out with other adoring fans.)
Preferring the comforts of home on her highly customized bus over flying, Dolly had the entire space decked out to include a bathtub and a wig cabinet (for the most precious of her cargo). She even had a full-size refrigerator installed — which required removing the bus's front windshield to fit it in — just so she could cook for her crew while on the road.

"I have homes all over the United States," Dolly once said. "But my favorite place is the bus because that way I can just feel those wheels rolling."
Now that bus is a getting a new life as a luxury hotel suite. It's now available to book at Dollywood's DreamMore Resort & Spa in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.
During a stay on the bus — which has been coined the Suite 1986 Tour Bus Experience — guests can see firsthand what it was like for Dolly living on the road. The bus is parked in a special, dedicated spot behind the hotel. It sleeps two people, and those lucky enough to spend a night on the bus get to relax while surrounded by hand-painted murals representing "wayfaring wanderers, wagons and crystal balls." The bus is complete with jewel-toned fabrics and decor that only Dolly could pull off.
Beyond the wigs and rhinestoned Dolly paraphernalia, including towering high-heeled shoes and a ribbon-adorned tambourine, guests also have access to a dedicated concierge team for the entire stay. Plus, they'll receive one-of-a-kind food offerings and a collection of customized keepsakes to keep as souvenirs, such as a bottle of her perfume, "Scent from Above." (It smells great, I preordered the sample when it was announced last year.)
Although the bus itself only has room to sleep two, each booking comes with a room at DreamMore Resort that can sleep an additional four guests, so nobody has to miss out on the fun.
Dolly famously said, "It costs a lot to look this cheap," and it also costs a lot to stay on the tour bus. Stays require a two-night minimum and start at $10,000. However, in true Dolly fashion, portions of the proceeds will go to The Dollywood Foundation — her organization that funds Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, a program that gives free books to children from birth to the age of 5.
For folks looking to spend less on a pilgrimage to Dolly's "Tennessee Mountain Home," there are still plenty of ways to get a taste of her legendary history. Inside Dollywood, guests can explore a tour bus from another era of her decadeslong career or step inside a replica of her childhood home.
Next fall, Dollywood's HeartSong Lodge & Resort will finally open its doors after much anticipation. With 302 rooms and suites plus a 4,000-square-foot, four-story atrium lobby, this long-awaited resort — part of the park's half-billion-dollar investment in its future — will be just another reason to head to the Great Smoky Mountains.

You Can Live Like Dolly Parton By Staying a Night on Her Old Tour Bus
D olly Parton seems to be front and center just about everywhere you look. From her headline-making halftime show on the Thanksgiving game between the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Commanders, to appearances for her latest album, Rockstar , it’s hard to ignore the force of nature that is Dolly Parton. If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to live Dolly’s life on the road, you can do so by staying the night at Suite 1986 , the icon’s former tour-bus-turned-accommodation that is parked permanently at the Dollywood DreamMore Resort and Spa in Pigeon Forge.
Like millions of other Americans, I’m a Dolly fan. It’s hard not to love the five-foot-tall music icon. Not only was she a pioneer in making country music mainstream, but she has charmed fans along the way with her unique blend of sass and style. I recently had the chance to tour Suite 1986 and see how the Queen of Country enjoyed life on the road.
Photo: Curtis Hilbun / The Dollywood Company
Suite 1986 is named for the year Dollywood opened. The 45-foot Prevost bus was Dolly’s home on the road from 2008 to 2022, and also the spot where she wrote her “Backwoods Barbie” album and the musical 9 to 5 . Dolly does not enjoy flying, so for 13 years she crisscrossed the country in her beloved bus, which she affectionately dubbed her “gypsy wagon.”
The interiors of Suite 1986 were decorated by Dolly and her sisters, and are a true reflection of her personal style. She had murals hand-painted on the walls of the bus depicting wayfaring wanderers, wagons and crystal balls, interpreting her life on the road. When the bus was converted to Suite 1986, it was suggested the murals be covered with plexiglas in order to preserve them. But Dolly put a stop to that, telling Dollywood executives, “I don’t want it to be like a museum for guests, I want it to be authentic.”

The interiors of Suite 1986 are a rich blend of jewel-toned fabrics and glitzy accents. Since the singer preferred to stay on the bus overnight instead of hotels, she added some comforts of home, like a full-sized refrigerator that had to be brought in through the windshield of the bus in order to fit. She also added a tiny Dolly-sized bathtub to one of the bathrooms. The living area of the bus includes a full kitchen, dining nook, bathroom, and sitting area. Two closets showcase Dolly’s elaborate costumes, jewelry, and bedazzled stiletto heels.
Toward the rear of the bus, a bunk wall features patchwork textiles reminiscent of the star’s hit “Coat of Many Colors.” Dolly’s personal bedroom and bathroom occupy the back of Suite 1986. In true Dolly style, the bedroom is painted from top to bottom in pinks and purples, with a dedicated vanity area and double-sized built in bed. The piece de resistance is a former closet space that was converted into a glass-fronted wig cabinet.
Suite 1986 sleeps two guests, though anyone who books the experience also has access to a room at the DreamMore Resort for overflow guests. Guests of Suite 1986 also receive complimentary park tickets, dinner show reservations, and a Pink Jeep tour.
A VIP Dining experience provided by one of the resort’s chefs is also part of a Suite 1986 stay. The menu is inspired by Dolly’s favorite dishes like smoked ribs and brisket, crispy fried chicken, whiskey-glazed shrimp, buttermilk biscuits and Southern-style sides. For dessert, guests will naturally be served Dolly’s favorite, banana pudding.

Inside Dolly Parton’s Suite 1986 tour bus
Dolly parton spent years on the tour bus travelling and writing, and now its being used for a good cause..
PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Queen of East Tennessee Dolly Parton has had many homes, but the one she calls her favorite is her Suite 1986 tour bus.
The bus brought Dolly all over the country, travelling 360,000 miles while in use, from 2008 up until 2022. It’s just as “Dolly” as you’d think too, featuring rhinestones, sparkles and lots of pink.
WVLT News spoke to Jenn Webb with Dollywood to get the rundown on the bus.
“It’s very important to her, and she really loved all of her time off on it,” Webb said. “She called it of her favorite home. She did a lot of great projects on here, including ‘Backwoods Barbie’ and ‘9 to 5 The Musical,’ really anything from 2008 to last year, she probably wrote and created on this bus.”
That bus has a lot of features too, including a full-sized fridge, two bathrooms (including a bathtub) and, of course, extra space for outfits, crystals, shoes and jewelry.
Now, visitors and Dolly fans can spend some time on the bus. $10,000 gets fans two nights on the bus, a room at the DreamMore resort, a special dinner and park passes. In classic Dolly-fashion, the money is going towards a good cause.
“The Imagination Library, absolutely,” Webb said. “So we all know the imagination library is super important to Dolly. She created that in honor of her dad who couldn’t read. So when we created this experience, we wanted to make sure to gave back to that organization, so a portion of all the proceeds goes to the Imagination Library from every stay. So that’s just another way that Dolly can give back and that we can help her do that.”
The bus offers an inside look at Dolly’s life over the past few years. Guests can see exactly where Dolly did her writing, her devotional table and even her crystal-encrusted guitar.
