Hayden Announces Canadian Tour Dates In Support Of New LP, Are We Good

Legendary and heavily influential indie-folk rock artist Hayden recently released Are We Good, his hotly anticipated first new album in 8 years, today on Arts & Crafts. Introduced by “East Coast”, “Miss Fort Erie”, and “On A Beach (feat Feist)”, which earned acclaim spanning Stereogum, SPIN, Cool Hunting, Under The Radar, The Line Of Best Fit, BrooklynVegan and more, Hayden’s triumphant ninth studio album is a crowning achievement in his well-deep catalog of carefully hewn indie rock, dating back to his debut album Everything I Long For in 1996.

“On A Beach (feat Feist)” was released alongside a cinematic, star-studded official video, also featuring the inimitable Leslie Feist with cameos by Matt Berninger of The National and beloved actor Steve Buscemi (who Hayden last worked with on the music for Trees Lounge, Buscemi’s 1997 directorial debut). Today, Hayden reveals the stirring love song and album title track “Are We Good” which was co-written with Berninger.

“This song was hanging around for a while with a bunch of mumbled lyrics I had as place-setters,” recalls Hayden. “The only line that stuck was the refrain ‘are we good.’ I sent it over to Matt [Berninger of The National] and he came up with the rest. When I read the lines ‘Are you worried about the past, coming back to you too fast, Are you worried about the sea, And what’s going on underneath,’ I knew I’d sent the song to the right guy.”

A meditative and electric tune, “Are We Good” is quintessential Hayden, with unabashed nods to the fluidity of Leonard Cohen and the buzz of Crazy Horse. As the album’s namesake, “Are We Good” posits Hayden Desser, peppered and grizzled (by the pandemic or parenting), in an attic studio stand-off with writer’s block during early lockdown. The album’s eleven songs were written, produced, and mixed predominantly by Hayden at Skyscraper National Park, the attic studio of his Toronto home. A perfect combination of complex family life – he and his wife are parents to a child with developmental disabilities – coupled with the grinding halt of creative inertia, Hayden found himself trying to balance the album on an unachievable ledge of perfection. Breaking from these confines – and a decades-long career defined by his staunchly DIY approach – Hayden made an album richly inspired by collaboration, including the likes of Feist, Aaron Dessner and Matt Berninger of The National, drummer James Krivchenia of Big Thief, and engineer Jonathan Low (Taylor Swift, Big Red Machine).

Eight years in the making, Are We Good is an album dedicated to relationships, and the deep personal entanglements that help define our sense of selves. On Are We Good – an evolutionary album, “the sound of an artist who’s been learning how to challenge an aesthetic they’ve been exploring for 30 years” (sometimes past the point of perfection) – Hayden opened up to new approaches to awaken his storytelling. A statement of permanence that chases the most fleeting of emotions, on Are We Good Hayden proves that reinvention is the greatest reminder of the essence of who you are.

Dov Kleiman was wrong, again.

Kleiman, a much-derided NFL news aggregator on X , posted on Monday night that the Raiders’ owner, Mark Davis, and dancer and choreographer Hayden Hopkins are expecting a child together after much internet chatter.

Except it wasn’t true.

Hopkins quickly dispelled the rumor, and Kleiman subsequently deleted his post on X.

“Reports of Mark Davis being the father of my child are wildly untrue,” Hopkins wrote on X. “I was pictured sitting next to him at a game in 2022 and have endured false rumors of a romantic relationship since. I was just a guest sitting in the owner’s box with other friends.

“These continued media stories are negatively affecting what should be my happiest days. Joey and I are excited to welcome our baby in the fall.”

Hopkins announced her pregnancy four weeks ago on her Instagram, which sparked plenty of comments about the baby potentially being Davis’.

Hopkins has performed for Cirque Du Soleil, and in 2022 shot down rumors that she was dating Davis after the two were pictured together .

“Haha MD [Mark Davis] is a legend! He’s my neighbor/friend. Fun game,” Hopkins wrote on Instagram in 2022.

She was spotted sitting next to Davis in his suite during a Raiders-Chargers game on Dec. 4, 2022, and rumors then surfaced that the two were involved romantically.

Davis is 69 years old and Hopkins is 26, which sparked much of the intrigue.

“Congrats! 26-year-old Hayden Hopkins, girlfriend of Raiders owner Mark Davis (70), is pregnant,” Kleiman wrote on X on Monday. “Happy for the power couple.”

Yes, Kleiman even got Davis’ age wrong.

Kleiman did not issue a retraction nor a clarification as of Monday night — he just deleted his post.

Kleiman, who is in his early 30s and lives in Israel, previously worked for BroBible, a sports blog founded in 2009; they parted ways in November.

He’s received ample blowback for taking reporters’ reports out of context and reproducing them for social media engagement.

2024 RBC Canadian Open picks, predictions, odds, field: Proven golf expert backing Alex Noren in Ontario

Former Masters champion Adam Scott will compete in the Canadian Open for the first time in more than two decades when he tees off in the 2024 RBC Canadian Open beginning Thursday at Hamilton Golf and Country Club in Hamilton, Ontario. The 43-year-old Australian's only other appearance in the Canadian Open came in 2003, also at Hamilton, when he finished 32nd. Scott enters this year's tournament with only one top-10 finish in 11 starts this season. He is a +3000 longshot to win. 

Meanwhile four-time major winner and former Canadian Open champion Rory McIlroy is the heavy favorite in the 2024 Canadian Open odds, at +360. Tommy Fleetwood (+1600) and Sahith Theegala (+1800) round out the top three choices in the PGA odds for this 156-player Canadian Open 2024 field. Nejad specializes in betting and DFS in golf, among other sports. He's had incredible success in the outright and first-round leader markets and in betting head-to-head matchups. One surprise: Nejad isn't backing Corey Conners, even though he is +2200 in the odds, behind only McIlroy, Fleetwood and Theegala. A 32-year-old from Listowel, Canada, Conners has a spotty record in the Canadian Open. In eight starts he has missed the cut five times, including in 2019, the last time it was held at Hamilton. (His best finish is sixth, in 2022.)

In addition, Conners has been woeful with the putter this year. He ranks 163rd in strokes gained: putting (-0.467) this season. "Conners is an elite ball-striker, but his short game has enough holes in it to prevent him from beating this entire field over four rounds," Nejad told SportsLine.

However, Nejad is bullish on European Ryder Cup team member Alex Noren. Listed between +2200 and +2500 in the Canadian Open odds, Noren has been strong with all facets of his game this season. He ranks fourth on Tour in strokes gained: total (1.382), behind only Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele and Rory McIlroy.

In his last start, the PGA Championship, he gained 5.9 strokes on approach and 4.2 more with his short game, en route to a 12th-place finish. "He's not super long off-the-tee, so he'll need to be dialed in with his long irons, but that's a strength of his and he's got the short game to compete when things toughen up," Nejad told SportsLine.  See which other players to back at SportsLine .

Round 4 of the Charles Schwab Challenge takes place Sunday from Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas. The longest-running host venue among non-majors on the PGA TOUR schedule will have a new look this year after an impressive renovation project.

Davis Riley, who won his maiden TOUR win at the 2023 Zurich Classic, extended his lead from two to four strokes after a 4-under 66 on Saturday. He sits at 14-under, four ahead of reigning Masters champion Scottie Scheffler, who jumped from 15th place to solo second with a 7-under 63. Another Texan and TOUR rookie Pierceson Coody sits in third at 8-under with Hayden Buckley.
