Cruises to Indonesia

With over 17,000 islands that cover nearly 750,000 square miles of land and sea, Indonesia is  one of the largest countries in the world. It’s also one of the most ancient and culturally rich places on earth, with a deep history of spice trading, European influence, and intertwining religious backgrounds.

On Indonesia cruises, you’ll uncover this country’s wild, elemental natural beauty, from volcanoes and jungles in Celukan Bawang to secluded surf spots in Lombok. Get your adrenaline going on a jet ski tour around the beaches of Benoa, or try fresh vegetable curries as you sip on cool coconut milk after a yoga class in Ubud. You’ll experience the best of Bali, Lombok, and their surrounding islands on a cruise to Indonesia with Celebrity.

Indonesia Cruise Highlights

Blissful bali.

Cruises to Indonesia will bring you to the world-famous island of Bali, where a boho vibe, exciting cuisine, and unspoiled beaches await. Bask in the sun on the bright white sands of Gunung Payung Beach, or head to artsy Ubud for an afternoon of yoga or a traditional dance class to rejuvenate your spirits. Relax with a fresh acai bowl or tropical blended cocktail as you overlook the palm-fringed sands of Nusa Dua and soak in this magical island’s blissful energy before heading back to the ship.

Endless Natural Beauty

Indonesia is full of natural beauty, unique biospheres, and some of the most sought-after beaches on earth. On cruises to Indonesia you’ll have the opportunity to trek to volcanic crater lakes, ride scenic boats through mangroves, surf and snorkel at tucked away jungle beaches, and much more. From casual birdwatching to adrenaline-boosting ATV safari tours, you’ll find endless opportunities to explore the natural world on a cruise to Indonesia.

Cross-Cultural Experiences

Indonesia is a country of contrasts in every way, and one of the biggest highlights of visiting is experiencing an array of harmonious, intertwining local cultures. Each port has its own traditions when it comes to food, art, architecture, dialect, and religion. This diverse cultural blend allows you to immerse yourself in a world of temples, shrines, ancient healing practices, local art, and island cuisine. Discover new perspectives, make everlasting memories, and gain a fresh understanding of how harmonious and welcoming this diverse island culture can be.

Indonesia Cruise Ports

Celukan bawang.

Celukan Bawang lies on the northern coast of Bali, fringed by dense tropical jungles to the south and the beautiful Bali sea to the north. Here you’ll enjoy the quieter, less developed side of the island. Visit Segara Karang Rata, a coastal wildlife preserve that hugs the sea, or Lovina Beach, where you may spot dolphins. Journey out to a tropical plantation to try the famous Kopi Luwak, an unusual and prized coffee. Step into the Brahmavihara-Arama Buddhist Temple, Bali’s largest Buddhist monastery, and join a meditation class.

Lombok is the perfect compliment to Bali, just across a narrow strait but different in both culture and faith. While in Lombok, explore the village of Kuta, where you’ll find small restaurants with fantastic local seafood curries, an uncrowded beach, and nearby nature escapes that are easy to access by taxi or tuk-tuk. Thrill-seekers can trek on the slopes of the towering volcano, Mount Rinjani, or for a more relaxed experience, you could take a guided jeep tour around the blue-green caldera lake, Segara Anak.

The port of Benoa is the main southern gateway to Bali for cruise ships, and a short distance from the island’s principal city, Denpasar. Take a day trip to artsy Ubud for colorful café scenes, yoga, artisan gift shopping, and a deliciously healthy acai bowl to feed the soul. Enjoy thrilling water sports like kitesurfing, wakeboarding, and jet skiing on Tanjung Benoa Beach. Visit the Pura Dalem Ning Lan Taman Beji temple site to reflect on the island’s intricate and harmonic blend of both Buddhist and Hindu traditions, where three majestic gates made of white-hued sandstone greet worshippers and visitors.

Indonesia Cruise Itineraries

The Lay of the Land

At nearly 750,000 square miles, Indonesia is the world’s largest island country and the seventh largest by combined sea-and-land area.

Unless you have unlimited time, you simply cannot sail/see it all in one cruise itinerary. Thus, understanding the regions and knowing what you want out of your travel experience and ship are paramount.

Cruising Indonesia for Wildlife

While wildlife encounters can never be guaranteed, seeking out endemic creatures is half the fun. In Indonesia, you can set your sights on Komodo dragons, birds-of-paradise, whale sharks and manta rays, among other exciting animals, but there are geographical nuances to consider.

Komodo and Rinca Islands are the islands to visit if you are keen to see Komodo dragons. Snorkeling near Flores Island will offer you the best chance to see manta rays and sea turtles in deep currents, and some Raja Ampat routes hone in on the best chances to spot birds-of-paradise. Learn more in our guide to the regions below.

“Our Indonesia small ship cruises focus on activity, wildlife & exploring remote islands.”

Lesser Sunda Islands: Flores, Komodo & Bali Cruises

The most popular cruise itineraries are located in the Lesser Sunda Islands, perhaps due to the international airport on Bali and the island being a household name in travel thanks to its many established resorts. From west to east, the Lesser Sunda Islands comprise Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa, Flores, Sumba, Timor, the Alor archipelago, the Barat Daya Islands and the Tanimbar Islands, with the most common expedition cruise routes sailing regularly between Bali and Flores.

Each of these islands are different in their own right with myriad earthy highlights including volcanoes, rainforests, waterfalls, mangroves, white-sand beaches and even savannah. This diverse landscape also holds a variety of wildlife that includes Komodo dragons (Rinca & Komodo Islands) and manta rays in the deep channels that separate the Indian Ocean from the Pacific. Traditional lifestyles, quiet coastal villages, tribal rituals and intriguing ancestral traditions are also a major draw for travelers to the Lesser Sundas.

Raja Ampat Cruises

For travelers looking for an immersive experience into the natural world of Indonesia, a cruise through the archipelago of Raja Ampat is the ideal modality. Located right in the heart of the Coral Triangle, this biodiverse area contains 450 species of reef-building coral, 1,400 species of fish and intriguing endemic sea life—the stingless jellyfish of the brackish interior lakes being the perfect example.

This kaleidoscopic underworld is ideal for the avid diver or snorkeler and pairs nicely with the stunning karst islands and unique bird life, including striking birds-of-paradise. The island biogeography of these birds helped Alfred Russel Wallace formulate his theories of speciation, much like the finches of the Galapagos did for Charles Darwin.

Additionally, voyages in Raja Ampat offer adventures hiking, exploring caves and inner-island jungle walks to stunning waterfalls.

New Guinea Cruises (West Papua & Papua New Guinea)

While West Papua is technically the only territory of Indonesia, the island of New Guinea is often an itinerary stop or embarkation point for many Indonesia cruises. Many Raja Ampat cruises begin their journey in West Papua out of Sorong.

Like its neighbor Raja Ampat, New Guinea is a hotspot for birds-of-paradise, but even more so as all but two genera are found here. At their core though, trips to New Guinea are truly cultural, offering a look into a world that very few outsiders see.

West Papua and Papua New Guinea cruises highlight remote villages, traditional art and authentic rituals providing human connection with peoples that are living a very similar life to their grandparents, quite the feat for the twenty-first century. Papua New Guinea is also home to stimulating World War II history and is dotted with historic places of interest, monuments and tributes honoring the fallen. The colorful biodiversity of the underwater world delivers the perfect balance to days filled with culture and history.

Spice Islands Cruises

Indonesian Spice Islands cruises offer a unique historic experience and deep cultural interactions among beautiful islands. The Spice Islands were mapped on ancient trade routes long before the Europeans even began searching out the Islands’ nutmeg, cloves, mace and pepper. The Portuguese, the first Europeans to start trading spices on a large scale from the Spice Islands in 1598, cornered the market for almost 80 years, infusing the area with Portuguese culture.

The clashes between the varying nations and cultures in the region for centuries offers a fascinating historic journey that can capture any traveler’s imagination. Remnants of this highly utilized trade route are still seen today on Spice Island cruise itineraries that also can include snorkeling with whale sharks; exploring lush national parks; visits to traditional villages, colonial forts and palaces; and ideal snorkeling, diving and underwater adventures.

Sulawesi Cruises & Kalimantan (Borneo)

Sulawesi, the Indonesian island east of Kalimantan (Borneo) and west of Raja Ampat, is perhaps the most unknown gem of the country’s many islands. Its shorelines and atolls are freckled with human settlements that rarely see tourism, so this is a land of true adventure travel and modern cultural experiences. Villages here are authentic working/living places for a variety of locals who make their living farming and fishing. This includes the nomadic Bajau people, commonly called the sea gypsies.

The unique shape of the island into several long peninsulas offers coral reefs alongside varied coastal geography ranging from steep mountains to palm-lined beaches. The Togean Islands offer chances to swim with stingless jellyfish, and keen eyes should look for tarsiers and macaques. Sulawesi is also home to the Bugis, Indonesia’s famed shipbuilders, so your itinerary may include seeing giant wooden vessels being built on the beach.

If orangutans are on your bucket list, be sure to look for Sulawesi cruise itineraries that include stops in Borneo. Several of our trips include stops or pre-cruise trip extensions here.

A Note About the Wallace Line

Indonesia is famous for the Wallace Line, a faunal boundary separating two eco-zones (Asia and Wallacea, the transitional zone between Asia and Australia). The “line” was drawn by naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace in 1859 and runs between Borneo and Sulawesi down to the strait between Bali and Lombok. Traveling around this line is a thrill for naturalists as it’s one of the most distinctive biogeographic areas on Earth. West of the line you will find larger terrestrial mammals (tigers, elephants, orangutans), and east of the line look for marsupials, Australian cockatoos and birds-of-paradise. The Indonesian island of Sulawesi is an interesting exception to the Wallace Line with black macaques, pigs and tarsiers.

Java & Sumatra Cruises

Most itineraries explore Indonesia from points north and east of Bali. However, select itineraries may cruise along the western Indonesian islands of Java and Sumatra. While Java is home to a majority of the Indonesian population, small ship cruises here will opt to mostly visit uninhabited offshore isles and small villages. In this region travelers can explore unspoiled coral reefs, deserted black- and white-sand beaches, lush jungle and child volcanoes of the famous Krakatoa.

The Places in Between: “Positioning” Indonesia Cruises

A fun way to see Indonesia is to “position,” or cruise with the boat as it sails between these iconic regions. These trips are often longer in length and include more days at sea (sailing vs. venturing off the ship) but connect you to the unseen places of Indonesia and allow you to relax with the rhythm of the ocean. Positioning cruises are also excellent choices to add on to a voyage. For example, a three-week positioning itinerary could be to sail south from Sulawesi to Flores, then stay on the ship all the way west to Bali!

Year-Round Indonesia Cruising

Indonesia cruises are available every month of the year, but ships often follow the trade winds and weather patterns to sail certain locations during their drier, less-windy months. If you are seeking to visit Raja Ampat, for example, plan your trip in the winter months (roughly, October through February). If your course is set on a Bali cruise, you can look for most sailings running from March through September. Climate data listed above is from Denpasar, Bali.

Small Ships & Yachts Sailing Indonesia

Numerous small ships of varying sizes and styles sail Indonesia, and our variety hold anywhere from 14 to 120 guests. You can certainly go the way of day boats to cruise Indonesia, but selecting a first-class, seaworthy and safe vessel is of the utmost importance among these far-flung island chains. Thus, we highly recommend going beyond the day-tour circuit to more remote reaches via expedition ships. In Indonesia, our partner vessels range from classic wooden Indonesian sailing vessels that lend an authentic, romantic cruise vibe to scuba-equipped luxury yachts and exploration-focused, state-of-the-art expedition vessels that travel farther, faster with all the latest gear. Knowing your preference for ship style, activities and amenities will help narrow down your cruise choices.

The 24-guest sailing vessel Ombak Putih combines traditional and modern design to bring authenticity and comfort to her itineraries in the Ring of Fire region stretching from Bali to the Philippines.

Purpose built for refined expedition cruising, the 30-guest Paspaley Pearl ship is truly unique. Cruise on this modern ship for gourmet food paired with wine from a curated cellar, plus activity gear (including fishing), an upscale feel and a sense of camaraderie.

The 120-guest Coral Adventurer Australian expedition ship offers a wine cellar, open galley, private balconies and efficient ship-to-shore operations.

The Aqua Blu carries her 30 guests in high luxury, comfort and safety while sailing through Eastern Indonesia. Embrace history and luxury on this unique cruise ship.

Katharina is a 12-guest sailing vessel whose adventures explore the Ring of Fire, the string of volcanic islands that stretch out from Bali east to the Philippines.

What Travelers Say About Their Indonesia Cruise

Fantastic boat with an amazing crew. What a great adventure exploring the small islands of Indonesia. The snorkeling was the best I've experienced anywhere in the world.

The quality of the guide, the crew and the ship were far above our expectations. The itinerary was very enjoyable. The early trip to Komodo island was very rewarding and the timing and variety of snorkeling was excellent.

The trip overall was unforgettable. One of the best parts was not having to figure out every step of the trip after/during planning a wedding. Knowing that AdventureSmith was in charge of the major details and 10 days of our trip, as well as internal flights were all organized was an important load-lifted off our shoulders.

Great guides together with the very enthusiastic and helpful crew made it a great voyage. If you like small boat cruising and snorkeling, this is the trip for you with the unique Komodo Dragons as a special plus.

We went to untouched places that we didn't know existed in Indonesia. We were able to still see all the hot spots in Bali on our own before we took this cruise, but this offered something entirely different than any of our friends had ever experienced in Indonesia.

Overall trip was amazing. Absolutely no issues logistically. Unless you have months on your hands to stumble around foreign countries and really figure it out on your own, a quality specified travel agency like Adventuresmith is absolutely necessary for a trip of this caliber.

Fantastic boat with an amazing crew. What a great adventure exploring the small islands of Indonesia. We most enjoyed Rinca to see Komodo dragons! The snorkeling was the best I've experienced anywhere in the world.

Meals Review

Great food and great crew!

Traveler Advice

Sea was a bit choppy the first couple of days, but not much you can do about that!

AdventureSmith Explorations Review

They helped us organize all our flights.  Even reached out to check in on us when there was an airport closure due to volcanic activity.

The quality of the guide, the crew and the ship were far above our expectations. The itinerary was very enjoyable. The early trip to Komodo island was very rewarding and the timing and variety of snorkeling was excellent. Also really enjoyed the trip to the active volcano and exploring the local shipbuilding village there. The trip to Rinca was short, I thought we could have been given the option to spend some more time there.

Accommodations Review

The ship was beautiful and kept in excellent shape by the crew. A memorable experience to sail on Katharina. My only complaint was that the sails were not able to be put up.

The chef on Katharina was INCREDIBLE. Loved the food and the variety. Rotation of meals over the week was also highly enjoyable.

Crew & Guides Review

Ari far exceeded our expectations. He knew so much about the local culture, the history of the area, the boat and the wildlife given his more than 20 years of experience. He also made sure that we had the best guides wherever we went. In addition, he was professional, friendly, approachable and organized.

We had excellent communication with our AdventureSmith contact Nick. He answered all of our questions in a timely fashion and we were well prepared for the trip.

We had an excellent trip aboard the Ombak Putih for our honeymoon. One of the best parts was not having to figure out every step of the trip after/during planning a wedding. Knowing that AdventureSmith was in charge of the major details and 10 days of our trip, as well as internal flights were all organized was an important load-lifted off our shoulders. The trip overall was unforgettable. Misool was beautiful- loved the jellyfish lake and cave exploration. The snorkeling, beach and view of Wayag was just idyllic and my favorite place of the trip. The oyster farm we visited was neat but the bay we stayed in wasn't the best- filled with plastic and felt less remote and beautiful with the oyster farm surrounding us. Loved getting to know the knowledgeable, like-minded travelers aboard. One of the best parts of the trip! This trip had a lot of snorkeling, which was great, but could have had a little more variety in activities. I know this was the action and adventure departure, but it was unclear that that just meant more snorkeling.

The Ombak Putih is a rad ship! We felt like we were pirates exploring the islands. I also feel that the traditional pinisi boats (as there were a few around) just fit right into the landscape, whereas the more yachty or modern boats seemed out of place.

Lots of variety. Loved the lemongrass flavorings. Could have more Indonesian foods, felt odd seeing a lot of red meat, cheese and smoked salmon when we can tell these items had to travel far to get there.

Great people. Fun to be around. Could fine tune their presentations and become stronger speakers for the evening presentations, but did a great job making everything run smoothly and keep us occupied.

Transportation Review

Our internal flights were arranged for us, as well as transfers to and from the ship which made our Indonesia domestic travel flawless.

The packing lists, online forms and the arrangements made were all excellent and timely. My friends and family would love to experience the magic of small ship travel that AdventureSmith offers.

If you get cold in the water bring a wet-suit top at least. The water is warm, but for us who tend to be cold just a little extra layer can make it so much more enjoyable. Also some people had long, thin rash-guard pants which were great protection against the annoying sea lice and jellyfish that we would encounter.

  • Ombak Putih

Great guide together with the very enthusiastic and helpful crew made it a great voyage. The snorkeling was excellent; many fishes together with turtles, rays and manta rays. [We also enjoyed] seeing the Komodo dragons. The fellow travelers were a very nice diverse group who mixed well.

Cabins were small but quite adequate. Food was very good and the bar prices very reasonable.

The food was delicious and there was always a choice of fish, meat and non meat dishes.

Ari made the trip a great success. Very knowledgeable and experienced. Organized everything extremely well.

If you like small boat cruising and snorkeling, this is the trip for you with the unique Komodo Dragons as a special plus.

What a trip and amazing ship! It was a special way to see Indonesia. We went to untouched places that we didn't know existed in Indonesia. Lots of snorkeling. Visited so many remote villages and had the children hold our hands as they took us around their town. We were able to still see all the hot spots in Bali on our own before we took this cruise, but this offered something entirely different than any of our friends had ever experienced in Indonesia and we feel like we really saw a "real" view of the country.

The Ombak Putih is a special ship. We were in awe of all the beautiful wooden touches - rare to find in the modern ships of today! Stairs are on the steeper side on the ship, so we made good use of the railings when at sea.

We ate like kings. Lots of healthy options, salads and fresh fish, but many treats and temptations to overeat too. A bit too many fried options for my taste, but others on board enjoyed and much was authentic to Indonesia - lots fried banana for snacks! 24/7 coffee and tea much appreciated and honor system tracking to grab your own drinks aboard and pay for at the end.

The crew was friendly and helpful, always with a smoothie ready when we came back on board in the heat of the day. We loved our guides Arie and Kees, who provided the perfect combination of education and adventure with their lectures and their snorkeling skills.

We would never have found this ship, or chosen this unique route, if it wasn't for AdventureSmith's advice and recommendation! Happy to have them as our sounding board for how to access the world's remote locations by small ship (we've done 3 trips). Their recommendations for us have always been spot on.

If you like to drink, take advantage of the opportunity to bring your own booze aboard to make your own cocktails! Bring a short wet suit or heavier rash guard top and tights as the water was on the cold side in certain locations.

  • Sailing Indonesia: The Undiscovered Frontier

Overall trip was amazing. Absolutely no issues logistically. We had a couple of days in Bali on our own prior to boarding the ship which made it easier to adapt to the weather, time change etc. SUP-ing into isolated islands with no one else around. Visiting remote villages that hadn’t seen any tourists since the last time our boat was there a year  ago. The genuine excitement of the kids wanting to show us around there village and home. The uniqueness of this trip was what really made the experience. It is a true adventure, there are no guarantees. Every day the group is coming up with plans based on weather, sea conditions, time frames, local advice and recommendations etc. You must be flexible and able to coordinate with the group, but this is what made it so fun. Of course the guides and the Captain had the final say. You could do this trip multiple times and never have the same experience (which some people on board had). There is a rough itinerary, but there are so many cool options and dynamic environment that it could easily change. Marine life, snorkeling, birds and komodo dragons. Truly Epic. Some people commented on a little too much time at sea. I enjoy boats and moving around but I would agree that it seemed a little hurried in 10-12 days to do the route we did. A few more days would allow for some flexibility and spending time at the more desirable locations, especially if we encountered inclement weather. [ AdventureSmith note that the itinerary was extended to 14 days in duration after this traveler's trip. ] We had a good group, however group dynamics on a small boat can play a role in activities. I personally would have liked a few more adventurous off boat excursions, however we did stay busy with fun activities daily.  No bad experiences.

The ship (Ombak Putih) was a beautiful, traditional, completely dialed Indonesian sailing vessel. The quarters below were not huge, but very clean, comfortable and as beautiful as the rest of the ship. Just the amount of hard work that went into this boat was breathtaking. We were lucky to have a small group (9), so there was plenty of deck space around to relax and not feel cramped. Even though this boat was equipped to sail if need be, we motored 99% of the time. We sailed 1 afternoon for fun, but there was no way we were going to cover the ground (almost 1000 miles) sailing the whole time.  Motor noise/exhaust was no issue at any time, night or day.

I couldn’t even think of anything I would change food wise. Amazing. Every stop we made, or local fisherman we saw, fresh fish and local goods were acquired. No food illness, water was processed on the boat etc. Beer was very reasonably priced. Cheaper than Mexico.

Unless you have months on your hands to stumble around foreign countries and really figure it out on your own, a quality specified travel agency like Adventuresmith is absolutely necessary for a trip of this caliber. Having firsthand knowledge of the ins and outs of small ship/remote world travel you’re in good hands. All connections and logistics where handled and everything operated smoothly. No problems.  Having spent so much of my life on the ocean, I love boats, marine life and accessing coastlines via a small boat or ship.  To me it really is the best way to travel. Whether you tie up in a large bustling port city, or anchor off a remote beach, it’s a whole different perspective than land travel. I look forward to another amazing boat trip with Adventuresmith in the future.

Ari was our main guide. He was exceptional. An Indonesian and Sulawesi local. Though we had people from all over the world on the boat, English was primarily spoken and Ari was absolutely fluent. No missed communications, or misunderstandings, he was 1 step ahead all the time, with the safety of the group the priority. There were times we didn’t swim, go ashore, or go to certain areas because the Captain and Ari deemed it unsafe, mostly due to ocean conditions. Spending most of my life around the ocean, I understood and respected what they were talking about. This was very comforting to know how attentive they were.  Due to our remoteness on this trip, there was no margin for error or injury.  This isolation became evident not long after we set out, and the crew operated accordingly.  There was no hot dogging or showing off, it was all business.  One instance in particular we were snorkeling around a deep water reef with a lot of current.  We had 2 zodiacs in the water tending to the swimmers.  A large, Rogue dive boat trying to track across the channel started to get swept toward us under full power.  Ari in the zodiac recognize this immediately, drove the zodiac in front of the dive boat and started screaming at the captain.  The boat turned, got swept down current and had to come up the long way to the anchorage.  Without his quick response the boat would have come very close to us.  I was watching it all unfold and would have swam out of the way, but I can’t say that for the rest of the snorkelers, focused on the sea turtles!  Kees was also another exceptional guide.  Having moved to Jakarta from Europe 20 years ago he knew the culture quite well.  His expertise in birding was an eye opener for me.  Most nights he put on informative presentations regarding the next day’s adventures.  Another very smart, professional guide we enjoyed very much.

United States Intensifies Support for Polio Eradication Efforts in Indonesia

For Immediate Release

Press Release

Jakarta, Indonesia.   The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is bolstering its support to combat the recent polio outbreaks in Aceh, West Java, Central Java, East Java, Highland Papua, and Central Papua.  USAID provided $882,750 to the World Health Organization in Indonesia to fund renewed polio vaccination activities throughout the country – underscoring the United States’ long-standing support for efforts to eradicate polio in Indonesia.

“USAID remains committed to supporting Indonesia’s goal of regaining its polio-free status,” said Jeff Cohen, USAID Indonesia Mission Director.  “Our interventions aim to reduce the incidence of polio in Indonesia and also mitigate the risk of international transmission.”

The current outbreak began in 2022, when Indonesia reported three polio cases in Pidie, Aceh.  Following the outbreak, Indonesia’s Ministry of Health (MOH), along with USAID, the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and other partners, implemented measures such as tracking unvaccinated individuals, enhancing community surveillance, and conducting Supplementary Immunization Activities in Aceh and North Sumatra.

Since late 2022, Indonesia has administered approximately 30 million doses of polio vaccines to 15 million children across Aceh, North Sumatra, West Java, Central Java, East Java, and Yogyakarta.

With this new contribution, USAID has now provided more than $3.2 million since 2023 to bolster Indonesia’s national and provincial level response to the polio outbreak and support two nationwide rounds of immunization.  During the current outbreak response, USAID – in collaboration with the WHO – has supported the MOH to mobilize 31 million doses of nOPV2 polio vaccine, with an additional 41 million doses currently undergoing approval for use.  Supplementary Immunization Activities to deliver the second dose of vaccine to children in Greater Papua and 27 additional provinces are on track to be completed this month.

The new funds will also support health worker training, printing and distribution of informational materials, vaccination activities, and deploying field officers and international staff in high-risk provinces.

USAID has been a steadfast supporter of polio eradication in Indonesia since 1998, consistently funding polio surveillance activities.  With USAID’s support, Indonesia achieved polio-free status in 2014, but the recent outbreak highlights the importance of continued vigilance.

In May 2024, the United States and Indonesia extended a five-year MoU on health cooperation, enhancing cooperation through increased research and technical collaboration, investment in human capital development, and strengthened work on pandemic preparedness, prevention, and response.

Indonesia Cruise

Featuring vast seas studded with 17,000 islands of unique character, indonesia is the perfect tropical setting for a small ship cruising expedition..

east cruise indonesia

Sail East Indonesia in luxury aboard Aqua Blu

Straddling three time zones and two mighty oceans, the country of Indonesia is the largest archipelagic country in the world. With open sea making up three-quarters of the country’s area, and 18,000 tropical islands stretching over 3,100 miles (5,000 km) longitudinally from East to West and 1,050 miles (1,700 km) latitudinally from North to South, Indonesia is a prime location in Southeast Asia for cruise adventures.

With its immense size, Indonesia also boasts astounding cultural diversity, with 1,300 ethnic groups and 652 documented languages, of which 11 have disappeared and 19 on the verge of becoming extinct. Moyo Island and Saleh Bay

Located in between Bali and Komodo National Park, the remote island of Moyo is an unspoiled paradise.

It offers explorers sparkling coastlines, a wealth of underwater life, and a cascading waterfall accessible with a short trek. Along the way to the waterfall, the wildlife of Moyo reveals itself, from butterflies to wild oxen. The island is a must-visit on Indonesia tours and is also a paradise for bird lovers. Over at Saleh Bay, whale sharks are the prime attraction. While sailing on Aqua Blu, head out on an early morning snorkeling adventure to swim with the gentle giants of the sea.

The aptly named Pink Beach on Komodo Island is must-visit on any Indonesia private tour. It gets its characteristic color from microscopic creatures which produce a red pigment that gets left behind on coral reefs. Over time, tiny fragments of the red coral get washed up and combine with the white sands of the beach to produce a soft pink hue that is particularly beautiful in the evening light. The Komodo National Park itinerary ensures that guests enjoy Pink Beach at its quietest and most tranquil; under a moonlit sky, this promises to be one of the most magical nights of your life.
