Flight to Barbados

Flight to Barbados:   Today you fly from London to Barbados.  On arrival you are met by your guides and transfer to your hotel in the south-west corner of the ialnd, a few miles away from Bridgetown and close to the beaches.  There will be time to relax and enjoy the hotel’s swimming pool.

Training Sessions. Bridgetown tour, marina and wharf

Training Sessions:   This morning there will be a training session at a local sports facility.

Bridgetown Tour:    After lunch there will be time in Bridgetown, taking in the wealth of history that lies in the city. You can see the Parliament Buildings, the oldest in the commonwealth, Queens Park, Heroes Square and Nelson’s Statue. Once the tour is over you can head to Broad Street to enjoy shopping time.

Marina and Wharf:   In the evening you head over to the Marina and Wharf which is the perfect place to stroll and admire the fancy yachts, before dinner at Blakey’s on the Boardwalk, just a short walk away.

Harrison's Cave and First Matches

Harrison’s Cave:   This morning you travel to Harrison’s Cave in the St. Thomas district. Located in the central uplands of the island, this breathtakingly beautiful limestone cavern is one of the islands greatest wonders.  So large is it that tours are conducted using a small electric vehicle on wheels which takes you through the cave, stopping every so often to gaze at the incredible stalactites, stalagmites and waterfall. The cave tour lasts for about two hours after which you return to your hotel for lunch.

First Matches:   In the afternoon you play your first matches against local teams.

St. Nicholas Abbey and Second Matches

St. Nicolas Abbey :  This morning you visit St Nicholas Abbey which is located in St. Peter. This is an authentic plantation house, and museum which dates to 1658 and is one of only three genuine Jacobean mansions in the Western Hemisphere. There is a rum distillery, a steam mill and a heritage steam railway to enjoy.

Second Matches : In the afternoon you play your second matches against local teams.

Carlisle Bay and Third Matches

Carlisle Bay:   This morning you head to Carlisle Bay, one of the best stretches of beach on the island with gently sloping white sand and clear turquoise waters, making it ideal for snorkelling.

Third Matches : In the afternoon you play your third matches against local teams.

Catamaran Cruise and Oistin's Night Market

Catamaran Cruise:   Today is a fantastic full day optional catamaran cruise which includes snorkelling on a coral reef where you can see a myriad or colourful tropical fish and swim with the turtles, a truly amazing experience. The crew will prepare local mouth watering dishes for lunch. The combination of beautiful sunshine and the warm azure sea makes it a euphoric few hours.

Oistins Night Market:   In the evening you visit the fishing town of Oistins where there is lots of street music, food stalls and souvenir sellers. Grilled fish is naturally the main dish served here and should not be missed!  You can enjoy the party atmosphere, dancing to Barbadian music and soaking up the sights and smells.

Free Time. Afternoon flight home

Free Time:  This morning you check out of the hotel and have time to relax at the hotel pool.  In the afternoon you transfer to the airport to check in for your homeward flight.

Sample Itinerary for Barbados School Netball Tours

Day 1 depart uk, arrive in barbados.

Depart from UK airport bound for the shores of Barbados. Your group will be met on arrival by a member of the Activ4 Barbados team who will accompany you for the duration of your stay. The Blue Orchids Beach Hotel is a charming family run hotel located on a magnificent stretch of white sanded beach on the popular south coast of the island.

Day 2 Swimming, Fixtures

The hotel is in a very laid back, friendly area where you can take a leisurely stroll before heading back for lunch. Then head straight over to the beach for a relaxing swim before preparing for today’s fixtures. Your evening meals will be taken in local restaurants which will provide a good variety of meals.

Day 3 Beach, Training Session, Fixture

Start the day with a full breakfast before stepping out onto the beach for an early morning swim and a light training session. Get your fitness levels up by jogging along the seashore as your next fixtures are scheduled today. Following all the action and excitement you will be more than ready to sit down and enjoy your evening meal.

Day 4 Island Safari Trip

Step into one of the comfortable safari rigged Land Rovers and prepare yourself for the Island Tour of your life! Island Safari shows you the island like no one else can, taking you to some of the most beautiful places on the island, places inaccessible to others but no problem with the 4 x 4 Safari Land Rovers.

Day 5 Beach Games, Fixtures

Make the most of your surroundings by taking a couple of balls over to the beach and setting up some beach games. Get some pre match preparation going and discuss team tactics as today your next fixtures are scheduled where you will hopefully put in another good performance! The fixtures are carefully arranged and evenly matched to ensure good competition.

Day 6 Catamaran, Coral Reef and Beach Games

Today you set out for a fabulous day cruising around the island on a Catamaran. Enjoy the wonderful scenery and tranquil ambiance of the sea and take the once in a life time opportunity to swim with sea turtles. In the afternoon your group can snorkel around a beautiful coral reef. After this exhilarating day you will have an evening of beach games!

Day 7 Bridgetown Shopping, Final Fixture, Awards Night

This morning you may decide to head out to the nation’s capital Bridgetown for some duty free shopping! Treat yourselves to a few souvenirs to take home with you before your penultimate fixtures. You can all get together for a celebratory dinner at the hotel! As it’s the last night you could have a tour awards ceremony.

Day 8 Depart for UK

Unfortunately all good things come to an end and today you return to the UK. After breakfast it’s time to check out but there may be enough time for some last minute shopping or a swim before you head out. Your coach will transfer you to the airport as you wave goodbye to Barbados!

Netball Success in Barbados

After a four-year break, Cobham Hall finally returned to Barbados for our eagerly awaited netball tour. After an early morning start and an eight-hour flight, those travelling were delighted to be met with warm Caribbean sunshine. Florence (Year 12) spoke with us about the trip:

“During the October half term, Years 7-12 enjoyed a trip to Barbados. We stayed in the Butterfly Beach Hotel, located to the southeast of the island, making the most of the pool, refreshments and sea located right on our doorstep. During the first day, we explored the island on a truck safari, followed by stopping off for lunch at a hotel. From Tuesday to Thursday, we took part in a netball training session for an hour and a half with a professional coach, followed by three matches – with the Junior team winning all of them! There was an excellent effort from both the Junior and Senior team, and on the last day we were all treated to a day trip on a catamaran. During the trip we were able to snorkel around coral reefs, a shipwreck and even went to Barbados’ Turtle Bay, where we swam with stingrays in the crystal-clear blue waters and enjoyed a traditional Barbadian lunch. Overall, the trip was a fantastic experience for all of us, and we came back with a new determination to bring to our own netball practice.”

BARBADOS NETBALL REPORT

The girls’ experience of netball in Barbados began early on Monday morning with an 8:00am training session with one of the local Barbados netball coaches, Tracy. She put them through a long warm up, basic skills and then coached them through game play. It soon became clear that the Barbados way of training and playing netball was going to be tough, physical, and competitive, which took some girls by surprise.

Taking on board everything Tracy had said about being tough, jumping and throwing the ball ahead, the girls headed to their first match against The Lodge School. The Juniors started positively and quickly got themselves into a good passing rhythm, linking together well – considering it was their first time as a team. They came out with a 13-2 win, and Cordelia (Year 9) was awarded Player of the Match by her teammates and staff. The Seniors had a much harder challenge than the Juniors. Their opponents were considerably taller than the Cobham Hall girls and used this to their advantage all over the court. Despite a super effort, the girls lost 26-3, but their spirits remained high. The Player of the Match was Emily (Year 10).

The following day, we played against a club called Clapham. Both their Junior and Senior teams were highly competitive, determined and focused on winning. The Juniors had their toughest match so far and had to really step up their game. Player of the Match was Jessica (Year 7), who showed great athleticism in her interceptions all over the court and made a huge difference to the team winning 10-6. The Seniors were beaten 28-4 but matched the physicality of the Clapham side and showed true determination. Player of the Match was shared between Rutendo (Year 10) and Daniella (Year 12) who were outstanding in defence as a pair.

The final match was at a club called Bico. The Seniors this time had a far more competitive match and had taken the experience of playing Clapham into this game and held their own. Despite losing 17-3 it was a much closer game for the Seniors, and the girls came away from the match with a renewed sense of purpose for their netball back at Cobham. Player of the Match was awarded to Jinnie (Year 10) who worked tirelessly throughout the court and had shown a big improvement in her understanding of the game. The Juniors got their third win, with a result of 10-8. The game was end-to-end, with Cobham having to work hard to keep the ball in attack through Scarlett (Year 9), Milly (Year 7), Dhvani (Year 9) and Cordelia (Year 9). Player of the Match was award to Dhvani.

At the end of the netball, the girls were given certificates and badges to celebrate the tour. We awarded a Player of the Tour Cup and a Most Improved Player Cup to the following:

Junior Player of the Tour: Cordelia (Year 9) Junior Most Improved: Jessica (Year 7) Senior Player of the Tour: Daniella (Year 12) Senior Most Improved: Millie (Year 10)

We look forward to returning for another netball tour to Barbados in 2025.
