Chessington Safari Resort

ZSL Whipsnade Zoo

Whipsnade Zoo is one of the biggest zoos in England with over 10,000 animals. As part of the Zoological Society London , Whipsnade is dedicated to conservation, sustainability, and science. 

Whipsnade Zoo has many incredible animals you won’t see elsewhere, like brown bears and wolverines. This year an endangered baby Asian elephant was born at the zoo! Grab tickets for the Elephant Cafe where you will be able to see mum and baby.

Blair Drummond Safari and Adventure Park

Scottish readers are definitely going to want to visit Blair Drummond Park to get their animal fix. From lions and macaques, to deer and antelope, there’s so much to see. 

Venture through the African animals, Asian animals, the lions and the macaque reserve in your own car for a day of family fun. Will you spot the rhino in the grass or hear the lion roar? The cheeky monkeys love to jump on cars as they pass so don’t forget to lock your doors!

Once you’ve had your drive-through fun you can check out the 300 species at Blair Drummond. I’m a big fan of the wallabies!

Manor Wildlife Park

If you like to get up close and personal with the wildlife, Manor Wildlife Park in Wales is the safari park for you. With several walkthrough safari experiences, there are so many animals to spot.

Start off your day in the Wallaby Walkthrough, where visitors can see young Joey’s hop into their mother’s pouch. I love to look for my favourite animal, the red panda, through the forest canopy. 

Don’t forget to visit the Lemurs in their Madagascan home where you can watch them jump and climb. If you’re lucky they might even sit next to you!

Port Lympne Safari Park

Come face to face with rare and endangered animals at Port Lympne Safari Park. Head to Kent to experience hundreds of acres of savannah. 

Port Lympne offers three unique safari experiences for you to choose from. On the AAA safari, an expert ranger takes you on a guided tour to see Savannah animals, like the giraffe, zebra, ostrich and wildebeest. Can you spot the black rhino?

Did you know that Knowsley Safari Park is actually the biggest safari park in the UK?

This 550 acre safari park is home to animals from across the globe. Journey through Eastern and Southern Asia, where you can see yaks and deer, or check out the African Savannah zone which is home to one of the largest white rhinos in the UK. Hop on the baboon bus for a car-friendly view of the baboons as they swing off the ropes.

Woburn Safari Park

Check out over 300 acres of drive-through safari nestled amongst the Bedfordshire landscape at Woburn Safari Park. You can have a whole day of fun with the drive-through and walk-through safari experiences.

Drive through the vast nature reserves to spot the animals lurking within. From bison and rhinos, to bears and tigers, there are so many incredible animals across 5 zones. I’d recommend the Kingdom of the Carnivores, where you can see tigers, lions, bears and wolves!

Knepp Wildlife Safari

If you’re looking for something different, check out the safari experiences at Knepp Safari. Encounter local wildlife, such as ponies, deer, and pigs, on one of the many vehicle and walking safaris at Knepp.

Hop on the all terrain vehicle and enjoy the half-day safari to discover British wildlife. You will see free-roaming herds of cattle, ponies, pigs and deer on your journey.

You’ll get to stop at the wildlife ‘refugia’ and spot small animals, such as grass snakes, toads and voles. There’s even a cafe stop so you can enjoy delicious local brownies.

Why not try a themed safari, such as the autumn safari, where you can spot red deer stags, or the bats and moths safari, where you can see nocturnal creatures.

Peak Wildlife Park

Peak Wildlife Park offers fantastic walk through experiences for all the family. Whether you decide to explore the African village or walk with the penguins, there’s something for everyone.

Have you ever wanted to walk with the lemurs or wallabies? I certainly have! Watch the lemurs leap through the canopies and listen to their distinct calls, or check out wallaby wonderland where the friendly animals will munch on branches out of your hands.

Head to the African village where you can spot meerkats, chickens, and Pygmy goats. Don’t forget to give their horns a good scratch!

Twycross Zoo

Twycross Zoo prides itself on being at the heart of conservation. With several walkthrough enclosures and a brand new The Gruffalo Discovery Land, this is a fantastic choice for little ones. 

Walk among the flutters of colourful wings in the Butterfly Paradise or hand feed the birds at Lorikeet Landing. Head to the goat walkthrough where your little ones (and the biggest members of the family!) can stroke the farmyard animals. 

Check out the lemurs as they weave in and out of your feet. You can even watch the tigers roam above you in the glass visitor tunnel.

I absolutely love helping families find more local places to explore. With this in mind I thought I would compile a list of Wildlife and Farm Parks within 40 miles of Peterborough. Some of these you may have come across before. However I hope there are a few new places for you and your family to explore.

12 Wildlife and Farm Parks around Peterborough

With the ever changing Coronavirus updates please double check with each attraction before you book. Each name has a hyperlink which will take you to their website for you to check and book tickets.

As always, if you are displaying any symptoms of Coronavirus please stay at home and get tested.

Sacrewell Farm – 7 miles – Thornhaugh, Peterborough, PE8 6HJ

Opening Times -9am-1pm and 2pm-6pm – Currently they are open every day with pre-bookable morning and afternoon sessions.

Prices – Adults (13+) – £6, Children (2-12years) £4.50 – Concession – £4.80, Under 2years

What is there to see and do -There are a variety of different animals from the traditional pigs and sheep to alpacas.  As well as showcasing their successful rare breeding programme which includes Suffolk Punch Horses and Hill Radnor Sheep.

There are also a couple of outdoor play areas including the new natural stream play area, a maze to explore as well as 1642 Field Sports, offering intros into air rifles, pistols, archery, etc for £5.

Refreshments – Origin8 is open for food and refreshments.

Rutland Farm Park   – 21.3 miles – Uppingham Road, LE15 6JD –

Opening Times – 10am-5pm with gate closing at 4.30pm

Prices –  Adults (13+) £6, Children (3-12) £5 Under 3’s free – Family Ticket (1a+3c/2a+3c) £18

What is there to see and do –  Feed the animals (buy bags of animal feed, 50p, from reception), outdoor play areas including toys and ride on tractors. Animals include Alpacas, Pigs, Goats and Horses as well as sheep and chickens to name a few.

Refreshments –  Daphne’s Tea Room is offering a reduced menu and seating has been reduced to ensure social distancing.

West Lodge Rural Centre   -25.2 miles – Brick lane, Desborough, Kettering –

Opening Times –  Open 7 days a week offering 2 pre-bookable only sessions a day – 9.30am-1.30pm to 1.30pm-5.30pm –

Prices  –  Children under 2 – free , Over 2+ £7.50

What is there to see and do – a large 500 acre site there are plenty of walks, parkland and nature trails to explore. There are pony rides, barrel rides, piglet racing, animal grooming, animal petting as well as the Outdoor play area to explore.

Refreshments – The Rickyard Restaurant is available however you need to reserve a table before your visit and a £10 deposit is needed. The Udder Place is a take away service only open 9.30-5.30pm.

Church Farm Stow Bardolph   – 27.4 miles – Stow Bardolph, PE34 3HT –

Opening Times Open 7 days a week for pre-bookable tickets only! 10am – 5pm –

Prices –  Adults £7.90, children (2-16) £7.80, Aged 1 £4.50, Under 1 free, Senior citizen (60+) £7.80

What is there to see and do – Pig racing, Animal walk, Tractor ride, petting pens as well as watching the farmers complete their daily tasks. There is a play area with trampolines, toy tractors, sand pit as well as a football pitch for you to bring your own ball and play.

Refreshments –  There is a tea room where you can buy cakes, biscuits, light lunches, hot drinks and ice creams to take away or eat outside.

South Angle Farm Park  – 29.1 miles – Angle common, CB7 5HX, Soham –

Opening Times Open for Pre-booked tickets only with timed entry every hour from 10am to 2pm and you can stay up till 4pm.

Prices –  Adults £5.50, Children £8, Under 2’s free

What is there to see and do – Animals from Alpacas to Tarantulas with regular handling sessions throughout the day. There is also sand play areas, pedal tractors, play track and craft barns to explore!

Refreshments –  There is a cafe to buy refreshments

Wimpole Home Farm – 31 miles – Wimpole Estate, SG8 0BW-

Opening times Pre-bookable tickets only 11am-3pm – Entry to Farm, Parkland and gardens –

Prices –  Adult £13, Children £6.50, Family £32.50 – Free for National Trust members

What is there to see and do – Home Farm is home to pigs, goats, shire horses, Shetland ponies, donkeys, rabbits, geese, cattle and sheep. There is a play area outside.

Refreshments –  The Old Rectory Restaurant is selling a range of drinks and lights snacks and during the weekends there will be a trailer in the stable block too.

Shepreth Wildlife Park  – 33.8 miles -Station Rd, Shepreth, Royston SG8 6PZ

Opening Times –  book timed entry every 15 minutes between 10am and 3.30pm

Prices –  £10 per person over 2 years, Under 2’s free and do not require a ticket.

What is there to see and do –  Visit African Sands, Hidden Treasures, Tropical House, Red Pandas, Sumatran Tigers, Lemurs, Otters and Meerkat

Refreshments –  Jungle Cafe is open for takeaway food only. Includes light lunches, drinks, ice cream

Mini Meadows Farm  – 35.6 miles – Mini Meadows Farm, Naseby Road, Welford, Northants, NN6 6HZ

Opening Times – Open every day between 10am and 5pm -2 time slots, 10am-1pm to 1.30pm- 4.30pm

Prices –  £5 entry

What is there to see and do –  There are plenty of animals to see from ducks and geese, to livestock, pinies, llamas, Donkeys, Calves and Sheep. There are are also pigs and piglets, Goat Island and baby animals! The Play area has a wooden fort with slides and swings as well as a huge sand area!

Refreshments –  Cafe is open but operating a reduced menu

Tattershall Farm Park  -37 miles – Marsh Lane, LN4 4JR –

Opening Times – Open 10am-5pm – No booking needed –

Prices –  £6.95 per person

What is there to see and do – 11am and 1pm falconry show every day with hands on taster sessions available to book. Animal barn, Animal Trail, Jumping Pillows, 33m Zipwire, Outdoor adventure trim trail, climbing wall, woodland play tower and sensory music area are all open!

Refreshments –  Cafe offering take away hot and cold food.

Ark Wildlife Park –  37.7 miles – Ark wildlife park, West fen lane, Boston, Pe228bd

Opening Times – 10am-5pm –

Prices – Pre book tickets online – Adults £9, Children £6.50, Under 3’s free,

What is there to see and do – Ark wildlife park is a 10 acre rescue wildlife park. They are currently not accepting cash payments so card payments only.  Over 250 rescue animals from lemurs to Jaguarundi to Donkeys to Skunks. With an Outdoor play area, Tropical House and Small animal barn there are plenty of animals to see.

Refreshments –  The Kalahari Cafe is serving take away food only from a limited menu.

Snettisham Park   – 38 miles – Manor La, King’s Lynn PE31 7NQ –

Opening Times – Open 7 days a week from 9am-5pm.

Prices –  Adults £8, Children, (3-16) £7, Concession £7, Family (2a+2c) £26, under 3’s free

What is there to see and do The Deer safari is running every hour from 10.30am, this needs to be prebooked 48 hours in advance (details on their website) – Visit the Ewes, Red Deer, Horses and Ponies. As a working farm there are a lot of activities you can get involved in from feedings, stroking, grooming to cuddling and playing. Meet the Pigs, Working sheep dogs, Guinea pigs, Rabbits, Tortoises and Ducks.

Lincolnshire Wildlife Park – 39.1 miles – Dickonhill Road, Friskney, Lincolnshire, PE22 8PP –

Opening Times –  Open every day between 10am and 5pm through the summer months with pre-booked tickets only

Prices –  Adults £11.95, children (3-15_ £9.50, OAP (60+) £9.95, Concession, Student, Carer – £9.95, under 3’s free, Family (2a+2c) £40, (2a+3c) £49

What is there to see and do – You can feed the birds and meerkats. There is a children’s play area which is open as well as the restaurant diner being open too. Meet animals from birds, to Bengal Tigers to Tapir to Reptiles!

Refreshments – . The Rainforest Diner will be serving all food in take-away containers, but you are welcome to dine indoors. Picnics are welcome to be eaten outdoors, but indoor tables are reserved for Rainforest Diner customers only.

Love it!! Plenty to do and see for all ages, clean and tidy. All staff pleasent and friendly, been going at least once a year for over 30 years and still love going.

I have an annual pass so use WMSP a lot. It never fails to impress. Today we did the minibus safari tour with Clive, our tour guide and driver. He was so knowledgeable and helpful. It was a lovely experience.

As a national MULTI award-winning children's adventure play and party venue, our aim is to provide an attraction that is unique for families. In simple terms, to combine a great cafe/restaurant with fantastic play facilities and friendly staff where families relax and enjoy spending time together. 

We strongly believe that children learn through play and that physical challenges, fun and risk-taking in a safe environment are key aspects of a child's development.

Our History

Always wanting to run their own business, Gordon and Fiona started working on the plans for a new type of play-centre in 2011. Wanting to create a family centred venue, where the whole family can enjoy great food, delicious drink and family fun play, all their hard work came together with Safari MK opening in October 2014. With Gordon’s hospitality background and Fiona’s Financial prowess, their combined knowledge and experience have proved a winning team.

After working hard to grow Safari MK into an award-winning business, the plans for a second venue soon came about and the even bigger Safari Adventure Play in Peterborough opened in June 2019. Aiming to provide even more services and support to the local community, Jungle Tots Day Nursery opened in January 2020. Jungle Tots opened with an amazing purpose-built sensory garden and quality equipment for the children to use.

White Rhino

White Rhino are one of the most endangered animals on the planet. They are often hunted for their horn.

European Bison

Bison can be found in North America and Northern Europe. The European Bison were once extinct in the wild.

In the wild, a Baboon troop can number between 20 and 100! Their ranges vary considerably depending on food availability.

A real highlight of the Safari Drive is meeting the Pride of Knowsley in the lion enclosure where our pride of African Lions roam around. See for yourself!

The beauty of the Safari Drive is that it's different every time you drive through and the best part is, you can go around as many times as you like!

Dare to get up close to a bird of prey or get splashed by a sea lion?

After you’ve finished the Safari Drive, why not go round again or explore the Foot Safari? See the Sea Lions up close, watch displays of our Birds of Prey and so much more. Both are included in your ticket so why not make the most of your wild adventure?

It's important to us that our guests and animals stay safe so we ask all guests to follow our rules of entry. Our animals behave as close to the wild as possible and can be unpredictable, so you should stay inside your car at all times. If you break down while on the safari drive it is important that all passengers stay within the car, you should sound your horn and wait for a patrol vehicle to come to your assistance.

Our safari drive is full of wild animals who can act unpredictably at times and we are not able to accept any responsibility for damage caused by our baboons within their enclosure. If you would prefer not to take this risk then why not take our car-friendly route or even hop on our Baboon Bus.

Guests are strictly prohibited from feeding the animals – that’s our job! If you are seen feeding the animals from your vehicle you will be asked to leave.

Dogs are not allowed in any areas of Knowsley Safari. This includes both the Safari Drive and also the pedestrian areas of the Foot Safari.

We do however provide basic accommodation for your dog should you wish to bring them on your trip.

Our kennels provide basic accommodation for your pet. Drinking water is available but we do not provide water bowls or blankets. Please feel free to bring with you any items that will make your pet as comfortable as possible. A £5.00 refundable padlock is available at reception on arrival.

We are famous for our drive-through Baboon enclosure but did you know that you can watch their antics from a safe distance if you’re not quite brave enough to venture in? You can take our car-friendly route which still gives you fantastic views of our cheeky residents.

If you fancy the thrill of the Baboons without any of the risk then try our baboon bus. You can book your seats online and you’ll be driven the whole way round the safari as well as through the baboon enclosure.
