Avoid long journeys to southern ports and discover the convenience of a cruise holiday from newcastle.

2 night cruises from newcastle

N ewcastle welcomed its first cruise ship back in 1999 and the Port of Tyne has since made sailings to everywhere from the Arctic to the Netherlands. It’s perfect for those who live in the northeast and don’t want to travel to southern cities such as Southampton for a flight-free cruise and it also makes a fun base for a couple of days before a sailing; the port is just nine miles from the buzzy city centre. Here are 12 of the best cruises from Newcastle.

Cruise Departing from Newcastle

Call The Cruise Specialists now and find your perfect cruise departing from Newcastle.

A cruise from Newcastle is the ideal departure port for anyone based in northern England or southern Scotland. Situated on the Tyne river, the deep-sea port of Newcastle has regular transport links to the city centre, along with shops, cafe's and bars on site.

Newcastle stands on a steeply sloping site on the left bank of the River Tyne. It is a lively and cosmopolitan city with a heritage stretching back 2000 years. The Quayside area is the symbolic and historic heart of the city - 17th-century merchants' houses mingle with Georgian and Victorian classical architecture as well as lots of excellent restaurants. The Norman Castle, dating from 1168 overlooks the area and the town was once ringed by walls and towers begun in 1265, parts of which can still be seen around the city. The most famous views are of the six bridges across the Tyne - the most famous yet youngest (1925-8) is the Tyne Bridge (the coathanger) prototype for the much larger Sydney Harbour Bridge (1932). Other sights of interest include Bessie Surtees' House consisting of two 16th and 17th-century merchants' houses on Quayside, Earl Grey's Monument in the very centre of the city and St Nicholas Cathedral with its glorious crown spire.

In the surrounding area, you will find sandy beaches with impressive castles and little fishing harbours along the coastline, while inland you can visit the open moorlands and wooded valleys of the Northumberland National Park. Other sights worth visiting include large sections of the Roman Hadrian's Wall, Hexham Abbey, Alnwick Castle and further afield the wonderful Norman Durham Cathedral on its rocky outcrop above the medieval city below.

Originally a station (Pons Aelius) on the Roman Wall, Newcastle's foundation is attributed to Robert Curthose (eldest son of William the Conqueror) who built the first castle here in 1080, around which the city grew.

The port's schedule lists all ships (in links) with cruises going to or leaving from Newcastle upon Tyne, England. To see the full itineraries (ports of call dates and arrival / departure times) and their lowest rates – just follow the corresponding ship-link.

Newcastle upon Tyne is a large port city in Tyne and Wear (metro county in North East England), located approx 165 km (103 mi) south of Edinburgh (Scotland) and approx 446 km (277 mi) north of London . Port of Tyne is on River Tyne and approx 14 km (9 mi) from North Sea. By urban population (around 300,000), Newcastle is North East England's largest city. By metro population (around 1,65 million) Tyneside (conurbation/metro region) is ranked UK's 8th largest - following London, Manchester, West Midlands, West Yorkshire, Glasgow, Liverpool, and South Hampshire.

Port Tyne (locode GBTYN) is the gateway to England's northernmost region Northumbria. The city attracts tourists with its modern infrastructure, architecture, entertainment options, classy atmosphere. The city is served by Newcastle Airport, located approx 10 km (6 mi) from downtown (near Ponteland). The main airport-city connection is the Tyne and Wear Metro (railway system) with travel time ~20 min. By annual passenger traffic (around 10 million) the airport is ranked UK's 10th largest and connects Newcastle to over 90 global destinations.

Port of Tyne

Port Newcastle as facilities comprises all the commercial docks on River Tyne (total area ~250 hectares / 2,5 km2 / 1 mi2). Its Gross Value Added for 2018 was GBP 690 million. Port's shipping operations support around 14,000 North East England jobs.

Port's cruising season is May through September. Most popular itineraries are Norwegian Fjords and Russia-Scandinavia.

Port's growth started in the 13th century. Back then, Newcastle was ranked England's 6th largest export port, with the country's principal exports at that time being wool, timber, coal, dairy products, fish, salt, hides. Much of the shipping trade was with countries in the Baltic Sea (mainly with Germany). From the 16th-century onward, the port's growth was mainly based on coal export.

In the late-19th century, the Port's river channel was deepened to 10 m (32 ft). Then were also built the two main piers (North and South), Tyne and Albert Edward Docks, and Northumberland county was formed. In 1928 was opened Tyne Commission Quay (now Northumbrian Quay) at North Shields, where was handled the cargo shipping trade with Bergen Norway .

Port of Tyne Authority manages the port since 1968. Port's current-day trade is based mainly on UK-made cars export. The port has 2x car terminals, 1x cruise terminal (Northumbrian Quay) and 1x ferry terminal (North Shields). Regularly scheduled cruiseferries connect Newcastle with Amsterdam (Holland). Currently, the company  DFDS Seaways offers 7 weekly crossings to Amsterdam , with travel time 16 hours. As alternatives to this route are offered crossings between  Harwich and Hook of Holland, as well as Hull - Rotterdam and Hull- Zeebrugge (Belgium) ,

Port of Tyne's cruising business started on August 30, 1999, with the arrival of the Cunard 's liner Royal Viking Sun (now Amera) . For 20 years (1999-2019), the cruise port has been invested ~GBP 8 million in passenger facilities, including GBP 5 million in Northumbrian Quay's redevelopment/extension into a dedicated cruise ship dock/berth. In the period 1999-2019, the cruise port handled a total of 450 ship calls and 700,000+ tourists from 60 different companies . For season 2019, Port Tyne's International Passenger Terminal had scheduled 59 cruise ship calls (berth bookings), including 10 turnarounds/roundtrips by the homeported here  MS Marella Explorer  ( Marella Cruises) .

All cruise vessels dock at the North Shields ferry terminal's pier (adjacent to Royal Quays Marina). Port's cruising business adds approx GBP 55-60 million and creates over 1700 related jobs for UK's North East economy. The cruise port's 2017 schedule had the all-time highest number of ship calls - 50. For comparison, in 2016 this number was 44.

Season 2017's scheduled cruise ship calls were 52, including 19 port-transit itineraries and 33 turnarounds (roundtrips) to Baltic and Mediterranean destinations, like Iberia, German waterways, Russia ( St Petersburg ) and various UK-based itineraries (around Britain and Ireland). Among the port's largest customers in 2017 were the companies Fred Olsen , CMV UK ,  AIDA ,  DCL-Disney . Newcomers docking in the region were NCL Norwegian and TUI . In 2017, the port handled around 120,000 cruise passengers and 600,000 ferry passengers ( DFDS SEAWAYS ).  Containership trade volumes increased by 8% (mainly manufacturing parts, recycled materials, raw tea export to Canada). The port now handles over 40% of UK’s total raw tea import.

In June 2018 was announced port business growth, following the completion of investment projects at South Shields (started in 2017) of over GBP 100 million. South Shields' new facilities can handle now larger volumes of wood pellets. Also updated were the port's infrastructure and equipment. By automotive trade (number of cars exported from here) Port’ of Tyne is ranked UK’s 2nd largest (after Southampton).

In early-March 2019, the Port received GBP 60 million (~EUR 70 million) refinancing from Lloyds Bank (British commercial bank) to support port's infrastructure development program. The 5-year deal comprised GBP 30 million revolving credit plus GBP 30 million term loan. By this program was also upgraded the port's container terminal (1991-opened, sized 20 acres / 81,000 m2). The GBP 2 million investment resulted in the terminal's extension (by 40%) and reconfiguration, repositioning the heavy-duty weighbridge. Terminal's new annual TEU capacity is ~100,000. here are handled containerized cargoes like tea (~1/3rd of UK’s import), clothing, consumer goods, furniture, machinery, recovered (by-products and waste) materials.

On May 13, 2020, was announced the plan for the construction of an Operations and Maintenance Base at Port of Tyne. The facility (office space and a warehouse) will serve the Dogger Bank Wind Farm in the North Sea. The offshore wind farm complex (currently the world’s biggest) is located approx 120-290 km (80-180 mi) off England's (Yorkshire) coast.

  • Dogger Bank Wind Farm is currently under construction, being developed by the Forewind consortium that includes the companies SSE plc (Scottish and Southern Energy / Scotland), RWE AG (Germany), Equinor ASA (Norway / fka StatoilHydro) and Statkraft AS (Norway).
  • Dogger Bank Wind Farm will generate ~5% of the UK’s electricity. The offshore complex is a 50:50 joint venture of Equinor and SSE Renewables (subsidiary of SSE plc). Offshore construction works started in January 2020.
  • Planned to become fully operational in 2023, Dogger Bank Wind Farm's expected lifespan is ~25 years. The energy project has an estimated capital cost of ~GBP 9 billion (~USD 11 B / ~EUR 10,2 B) with investments in the period 2020-2026.

Newcastle upon Tyne cruise terminal

Newcastle upon Tyne cruise port terminal is located in North Shields, adjacent to Royal Quays Marina. The facility has 2 berths and can handle liners with LOA length up to 300 m (985 ft). Terminal's max passenger capacity is 2000.

Port Tyne's annual cruise shipping traffic is ~800,000 passengers. The terminal building has 700 seats, 6 check-ins, luggage handling facilities, Wi-Fi, cafe, shop, tourist information, ATMs (cash machines), short-term and long-term parking. Taxi and bus shuttle services to downtown and Metro are also available.

Newcastle cruise terminal is located approx 13 km (8 mi) from downtown. Newcastle Airport is approx 24 km (15 mi) from the cruise terminal (30-min drive distance). The airport serves direct flights from Southampton , Bristol ,  London (Heathrow, Stansed, Gatwick), Birmingham,  Aberdeen (Scotland) ,  Belfast (Ireland) . Central Station is approx 15 km (9 mi) from the terminal. Near the cruise port are located a beach, Tynemouth Castle (overlooking Tynemouth Pier), cafes, shops. Parking costs GBP 9,50 per night.

In July 2019 was completed the reconfiguration of International Passenger Terminal (North Shields) with which was created a new baggage handling facility exclusively for Marella Cruises (UK-based brand/subsidiary company of TUI AG). By this project were converted 300 m2 (3230 ft2) of space at the North Shields terminal and created additional capacity for 1000 bags, 382 new parking lots and a 10x30 m (33x98 ft) marquee/tent serving as a covered outdoor baggage handling facility. Here tourists can drop off their bags (which are quickly security-checked and loaded onto the cruise ship) then proceed to dedicated parking before boarding/embarkation.

  • Tyne Bridges: there are six, best known are three of them. The High Level Bridge is the oldest one and dates from the 1850s and was designed by Robert Stephenson. The second oldest, Swing Bridge, dates from 1876 and its designer is Sir W. G. Armstrong. The bridge that is the symbol of Newcastle is Tyne Bridge. Its official opening was in 1928 by King George V. It used to be the bridge with the largest arch until it was surpassed by the Australian Sydney Harbour Bridge.
  • Quayside/Sandhill: great place to wander among old small houses, interesting shops and welcoming restaurants. The district is near High Level and Tyne Bridges. You can also find several historic buildings (for example – the Merchants’ Court and Guildhall).
  • St Nicholas Cathedral: located on Mosley Street. The cathedral was built in the period 14th -15th century. It gained it cathedral status (of parish church) in 1882. The building impresses both by architecture and interior.
  • Queen Victoria Memorial: located on St Nicholas Square. Its author is Sir Alfred Gilbert and it dates from 1900.
  • Chares: the Old City is to the Tyne Bridge’s east. Most popular attractions are the Trinity House and the Custom House.
  • Trinity Maritime Centre: located on Broad Chare. Explore the history of the city and its port.
  • Church of All Saints: dates from the 18th century. It is neo-Clasical  work of David Stephenson.

2 night cruises from newcastle

Nine cruises you can do in a long weekend – direct from UK ports

W ant to try a cruise but not sure it’s for you? It’s a bit of a gamble, after all. What if, after a few days, you decide you’re not keen – but still have to stick out a week or more on-board, and possibly 3,000 miles from home?

It’s a tricky conundrum for prospective cruisers – but the solution may be closer than you think.

Most cruise lines offer “short cruises” which start at just four days duration, though that’s not really viable if you’ve got to fly to the Caribbean or Mediterranean first. Luckily, there is another way – the “taster” cruise. These sailings typically last just two or three nights, and depart from and return to UK ports: perfect for a risk-free sample of life at sea.

It’s not just first-timers who can benefit from these micro-cruises: they’re also an ideal option for seasoned seafarers or city-breakers looking for a weekend escape that comes free of airport delays, lost luggage and budget airlines – and at a reasonable price, too. Many cruise lines even offer a door-to-ship pick-up option, so you don’t have to find a place to park.

These short cruises open up places such as the Channel Islands, Paris and Bruges via their maritime ports of Le Havre, Cherbourg and Zeebrugge. There are plenty of excursions to choose from too, allowing passengers to tailor their cruise beforehand, or explore independently.

So, whether you’re looking for a first-time taste of cruising, a hassle-free minibreak, or a combination of the two, these excellent options offer the perfect way to spend a long weekend without boarding a plane.

Find culture and carats in Antwerp

This cruise lets you explore Antwerp, a vibrant city famous for its diamond industry, and filled with magnificent gastronomy, art and architecture. Take a tranquil cruise along the historic river Scheldt to experience it from all sides, then explore its fascinating medieval heart with its Market Square, café-filled cobbled side streets and Belgium’s largest Gothic cathedral.

The city’s top draws, however, are its vibrant fashion and entertainment scenes, and its fascinating (and occasionally startling) Flemish and French architectural and cultural contrasts. You can even visit the mansion built as a home and studio for renowned painter Pieter Paul Rubens.

Ambassador Cruises (0808 102 8062) offers the three-night Festive Weekend Getaway cruise from £269 per person, on board Ambition, sailing December 8 2023 (round trip from London Tilbury to Antwerp)

Seek continental cool on Guernsey

From the Roman era through the German occupation of the Second World War, Guernsey’s capital, St Peter Port, has been a busy hub. Here you’ll find Georgian and Regency houses mixed with a continental café culture, plus tumbling terraced gardens, winding streets and hidden leafy alleys begging to be discovered.

Take a taxi to explore the Ruettes – tranquil, quiet lanes that are dedicated to walkers, cyclists and riders – and to Castle Cornet, home to several museums and theatrical events. Fort Grey holds a fascinating Shipwreck Museum, while the German Occupation Museum gives a vivid account of island life during this period. Don’t forget, Guernsey is tax free, so leave time for shopping, too.

P&O Cruises (0344 338 8003) offers the three-night Guernsey Getaway cruise from £429 per person, on board Arcadia, sailing June 6 2024 (round trip to St Peter Port, Guernsey from Southampton)

Spend a serene day at sea

While a two-night cruise from Southampton to Newcastle (with one day at sea) might not immediately scream excitement, it does in fact provide the perfect opportunity to experience the delights of “sea days” on a shorter cruise – and comes complete with evening entertainment.

There’s off-ship fun to be found, too: in Southampton itself, explore  ancient town walls and God’s House Tower, a 13th-century gatehouse which leads into the old town and hosts arts and heritage attractions, including fascinating exhibitions. When you reach Newcastle, stride out on foot to see its bridges and bustling quayside, as well as the Baltic Arts centre, which offers a tremendous amount to discover.

Fred Olsen Cruises (0800 677 3995) offers the two-night cruise to Newcastle from £249 per person, on board Balmoral (sailing February 28 2024 from Southampton)

Soak up history in Bruges and Mont St Michel

Of course, a visit to the Unesco World Heritage city of Bruges is not complete without a boat trip on the canals – the arteries of the city – but it is Burg Square that is truly the city’s soul. Take a horse-drawn carriage through the centre, visit the Hanseatic Quarter and revel in the museum of Flemish Art. Next, it’s on to Mont St Michel – also a Unesco World Heritage city. Perched on a pinnacle of rock rising from the sea and accessed by a tidal causeway, its walls encapsulate more than 60 medieval buildings and a 1,000-year-old abbey.

MSC Cruises (020 3909 5432) offers the three-night cruise to Zeebrugge (Bruges) and Cherbourg (Mont St Michel) from £399 per person, on board Virtuosa, sailing May 6 2024 (round trip from Southampton)

Sail beneath starry skies in Scotland

This short break cruise around the sheltered waters of Mull provides stunning views of sea eagles and ancient castles, plus a chance to really appreciate the region’s magnificent coastal scenery. The cruise begins and ends in Oban, taking in Loch Linnhe, Glencoe, the Sound of Mull and Loch Sunart, including a visit to the community at Tobermory with its pretty coloured houses. Come nightfall, the cruise anchors in secluded bays, where you’ll have only the seals and stars for company.

The Majestic Line (01369 707951) offers the three-night A Taste of The Hebrides cruise from £1,360 per person, departing weekly from March to October, on-board Glen Massan (round trip from Oban)

Count the Severn’s Wonders

If you’re keen for a taster of small-ship or river cruising, the 22 passenger Edward Elgar provides an opportunity to do both. This sailing journeys along the Cotswolds escarpment, the upper Severn estuary and Forest of Dean, pausing for guided tours of Berkeley Castle and the Purton Hulks graveyard of 80 barge wrecks scuppered to shore there.

There’s also time to visit the Wildfowl & Wetlands Centre founded by the “father of nature conservation”, Sir Peter Scott, and an excursion to the Cotswolds Canal Trust Heritage Centre, where you’ll discover the history of the local waterways.

English Holiday Cruises (01452 410411) offers the three-night Ship Canal Explorer cruise from £595 per person, on board Edward Elgar, departing March 29 2024, (round trip from Gloucester)

Feast on culture in Zeebrugge and Le Havre

For incredibly fresh seafood and excellent beer (frequently served together), you needn’t look further than Zeebrugge, Belgium’s biggest fishing port. There’s a unique mix of sights and sounds to absorb here, but the nostalgic gem of Admiral Keyes Square is the town’s most enchanting corner, a haven of peace and quiet.

Next it’s on to Le Havre, which lost most of its medieval buildings during the Second World War. Yet from the ashes rose an incredible concrete mix of industrial and natural grandeur – an extraordinary combination, which has since seen it honoured by Unesco.

Cunard (0344 3388641) offers the three-night Bruges and Le Havre Short Break cruise from £689 per person, departing May 30 2024, on-board Queen Mary 2 (round trip from Southampton)

Take the tykes to Belgium

If you’re searching for a great first-time cruise for young children, it makes sense to opt for Disney, with its pools, on-board shows and range of kids’ clubs. Spend time exploring Southampton before you board, with its glimpse into the past at the Tudor House and Garden or the Maritime Museum, then its onward to Zeebrugge. Here, the children’s beach village – with swings, climbing frames and even a life-size play boat – are guaranteed to please, but if you’d like to add a bit of culture, Brussels is a short hop away.

Disney (001 407 566-3457) offers the three-night Belgian Cruise from £1,152 per person, departing August 16 2024, on board Disney Dream (round trip from Southampton)

Choose an adventure in Paris and beyond

See Paris at your own pace (perhaps by narrated mini coach tour, or lunch on a riverboat up the Seine?), or skip the City of Light altogether and head for the D-Day beaches and Bayeux Tapestry on a day-long historical excursion that spans the Middle Ages to the liberation of France at the end of the Second World War. You’ll have two nights here, so there may even be time to squeeze in a visit to the glory of Versailles, too.

Royal Caribbean (0344 493 4005) offers the two-night Paris Cruise from £357 per person, on-board Anthem of the Seas, sailing May 10 2024 (round trip from Southampton)

Discover Telegraph Wine Cellar’s new wine club. Enjoy expertly chosen bottles at exclusive member prices. Plus, free delivery on every order.

Ladies on these occasions have a chance to dress up and often opt for evening or cocktail dresses. Please note that jeans, T-Shirts, and open-neck shirts are not permitted in the main restaurant on Formal or Gala evenings.

Children are encouraged to follow the suggested dress code; however, if you wish not to participate, please feel free to dine in Borough Market on these evenings.

Gambling and Alcohol Consumption In line with U.K. age limits and our company policy, the casino and cash prize bingo are strictly reserved for guests aged 18 years or over. Please note that no one under the age of 18 years old is allowed in the Ambassador Casino at any time.

Additionally, only guests aged 18 years and over will be allowed to purchase or consume alcohol and/or cigarettes. Please be aware that if an adult attempts to buy alcohol for a person under the age of 18, both the adult and the minor will be reported. A range of actions may then be taken - including disembarking those involved.

Ambassador Cruise Line does not allow alcohol to be brought on board, and we reserve the right to confiscate any alcohol before allowing you to board the vessel.

Highchairs  We have a limited number of highchairs onboard; therefore, if you require the use of one, you are advised to let our Guest Services Team know in advance.

Infants & Children  Infants & children under 18 years must always be supervised by a parent/guardian whilst onboard.

Minimum Age to Cruise Unfortunately, we can’t accommodate infants younger than six months for health and safety reasons. When it comes to cabins, there must be at least one guest 18 years or older in each cabin to ensure there is suitable supervision.

Nappies, Baby Wipes & Nappy Sacks  The shop onboard does not stock items such as nappies, wipes, nappy sacks etc., so if you need further supplies during your cruise, please ensure you take enough with you, or you’ll need to purchase these items ashore.

The bathroom facilities on this vessel employ a vacuum flushing system. Therefore, in the interest of your comfort, we would like to ask you to avoid throwing nappies, baby wipes, paper napkins, sanitary towels or any other products in the toilet, but instead, use the bins provided. Disposing of such items can cause blockages for an entire section of interconnected cabins.

Onboard Payments  All prices onboard our ships are quoted in sterling. A cashless system is in operation for all your onboard purchases. An account is opened for you at the start of your cruise for purchasing goods and services on board. All purchases are charged to your shipboard account, and a final invoice is presented at the end of the cruise itemising all charges. This can be settled by MasterCard or Visa credit cards or by Visa debit cards. Guests who prefer to pay by cash may top-up their cruise card by visiting Reception.

You can register a credit or debit card during the online check-in process once within 72 hours of sailing via My Ambassador Sailing ( ambassadorcruiseline.com ). By registering your card before you travel, you’ll save time having to complete the registration process at the port during embarkation.

Your card may be pre-authorized for £1. This pre-authorization will appear on your bank statement as a pending transaction until the end of your cruise. During your cruise, we will top-up your pre-authorised or pending amount in line with your account activity. You can check your account balance at any time using the ALL ABOARD APP, or at the self-service kiosks located around the ship. Your account will be closed at 0300 hrs on the day of disembarkation; at this point, your onboard balance will be settled automatically, and any remaining pre-authorised amount will be cancelled within 24 hours. Please note that any purchases made after this point must be cash only.

Prams/strollers  All prams/strollers must be stored in your cabin. These aren’t available to hire onboard.

Sleeping Arrangements Most of our three & four berth cabins contain two single lower beds and one or two upper beds (bunk beds). To comply with UK safety standards, we recommend that children under the age of 9 do not occupy or play on the upper bunk beds.

We do have a small number of additional upper berth plastic safety guards. If you require the use of one, you are advised to let our Guest Services Team know in advance.

Theatres and Public Lounges  Children aged under 18 years must be accompanied by a parent/guardian when in the public lounges or bars, including The Pallidum Show Lounge. Access may also be restricted in selected bars and lounges after 9:30 pm. Details of which can be found once onboard.

Travel Insurance  It is a condition of booking that all guests hold fully comprehensive travel insurance that specifically covers cruise holidays, is valid for the entire duration of your chosen itinerary, provides full health coverage for all pre-existing conditions and the costs of medical repatriations, plus specific cover for Covid-19 related issues. It should also include Personal Luggage insurance since there is limited liability for loss or damage.

We are delighted to be working with Holiday Extras, who can provide our guests with exceptional value, and fully comprehensive cruise travel insurance coverage; please click here  to learn more.

Vaccination Policy

Ambassador Cruise Line can confirm that it will be lifting all Covid-19 vaccination and testing requirements on Thursday 22 June, meaning that all guests regardless of vaccination status are now welcome to enjoy one of our premium value, no-fly cruise experiences. We are currently updating our systems to reflect this change and will shortly be advising all guests due to travel with us of our updated Covid protocols via a personalised email. Ahead of the system changes being implemented, this updated policy will be applied to all bookings made for future sailings.

Although many of the restrictions have now been lifted, we continue to recommend that guests travelling with us have two doses of a UK Government approved vaccine. Although they are not required to take a lateral flow test before sailing with us, guests displaying Covid-19 symptoms within 72 hours of departure are encouraged to take a test at home as a courtesy to their fellow travellers.

Guests are no longer required to take a lateral flow test before travelling with us.

Important Information

Guests travelling with a child of a different surname.

On our multigenerational cruises, we have a number of guests travelling with children of a different surnames to theirs.

Whilst the UK Government advises that you may take a child abroad for up to 28 days without getting permission if the child lives with you, we cannot verify this during embarkation. Therefore as a matter of security, we request that any guest travelling with a child (under the age of 18 years), obtains written parental consent before travelling with us.

A written letter from the person with parental responsibility for the child will be sufficient, confirming that you have permission to take the child abroad. The letter should include the following:

Confirmation that you have permission to take the child abroad.

Full details of the child, including name, date of birth, and passport number.

Full details of the cruise, including the countries visited, plus sailing and return dates.

Full contact details of the person with parental responsibility.

A signature and date from the person with parental responsibility, along with a photocopy of their passport.

If you have parental responsibility for the child and will be travelling with them, it may be beneficial to bring either of the following with you:

Evidence of your relationship with the child, e.g. a birth or adoption certificate.

A divorce or marriage certificate if you are a single parent but your family name is different from the child’s.

You will be required to present this at embarkation however if you prefer, a copy can be emailed in advance to [email protected] . Please note that failure to produce this written evidence will result in the denial of boarding.

Please use this template  to assist with this requirement.

Further details can be found here: Get permission to take a child abroad .

P&O Cruises announces winter 2024 Caribbean holidays with flights from Newcastle

Prices start from £1,399 per person for an incredible 14-night trip including return flights, full-board meals and entertainment on board the luxury 'sunshine ship' Arvia

  • 12:26, 22 MAY 2024

The unforgettable trip will see you visit several of the Caribbean islands, including Antigua and Barbuda

P&O Cruises has announced its airline partners for its winter Caribbean season - and holidaymakers will be able to catch flights from Newcastle Airport .

TUI will offer regional flights from Newcastle on selected departure dates between November 2024 and March 2025, with the luxury holiday packages starting from £1,399 per person for a 14-night cruise which includes return flights, full-board meals and entertainment. Setting sail from Barbados, the unforgettable trip will see you stop off at the likes of Martinique, Saint Kitts, the Virgin Islands, Saint Martin, Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Lucia and Grenada.

Additionally, TUI will offer regional flights from Edinburgh, Cardiff, Belfast, Bristol, Bournemouth and Glasgow, as well as Friday and Saturday flights to Barbados from London Gatwick, Birmingham and Manchester. Norse Atlantic will run a weekly Friday flight from Manchester to Barbados alongside Saturday flights from London Gatwick and Manchester on alternating weeks, and Virgin Atlantic will operate a whole plane charter from London Heathrow every 14 days for guests joining in Barbados on a Friday.

Both TUI and Norse Atlantic have modern Boeing 787 Dreamliners with economy and premium economy cabins. All guests will be offered in-flight entertainment, complimentary drinks and a main meal, and a luggage valet service with an allowance of 23kg in economy or 28kg in premium in addition to 10kg of hand baggage and a small carry-on bag, with upgrades available for a supplement when booking your cruise.

On board the Arvia, nicknamed the "sunshine ship", guests will find seven dining venues, four swimming pools including an open top roof and infinity pool with a swim-up bar, a multiplex cinema and open-air cinema, children's club and night nursery, a gym, mini golf, and a sports arena. There's also plenty of on-board entertainment including theatre shows, live music and comedy, as well as a children's club and night nursery.

A 14-night Caribbean Fly-Cruise departing from November can now be booked with a deposit of just £210 per person. For more information, holidaymakers can visit the P&O Cruises website, call on 03453 555 111, or visit a travel agent.

P&O Cruises president Paul Ludlow said: "We recognise that flights are a key part of the holiday experience and so I am delighted that we are continuing our longstanding partnership with TUI Airways and that we are introducing a bespoke in-flight proposition with Norse Atlantic as well as fortnightly flights with Virgin Atlantic. This will ensure our guests have a consistent in-flight experience aligned across all three airlines matching the high quality standard they would expect from P&O Cruises.

"The Caribbean is, and always has been, a dream destination and our newly refitted flagship Britannia and newest Excel Class ship Arvia will once again be based in Barbados offering itineraries to spectacularly beautiful islands in the region."

P&O has plenty of other fly-cruise holiday packages available for those looking to depart from Newcastle, with destinations including the Mediterranean, Canary Islands, Caribbean, and even once-in-a-lifetime World Cruises. Prices start from £549 per person for a 7-Night Canary Islands Fly-Cruise setting sail from Tenerife, all the way up to £4,499 per person for an ultimate 28-Night Dubai to Sydney Cruise .

If you can't get enough of cruise holidays, there are plenty of other ships still set to dock in the Port of Tyne this May , from regular Fred Olsen visitor the Balmoral to some first-time arrivals. The Balmoral is the smallest ship in Fred Olsen's fleet, yet it still has six restaurants, seven bars and lounges, and two swimming pools.

Having already docked twice at Port of Tyne this month on May 3 and May 8, its upcoming visits on May 23 and May 28 are the beginning and end of the Springtime Norwegian Fjords in Five nights cruise. Stops include Ålesund, Olden, and a day of cruising Nordfjord and Innvikfjord.

Meanwhile, the Holland America Line's Nieuw Statendam includes Newcastle as the penultimate stop on its 14-day North Cape and Midnight Sun cruise. Starting in Copenhagen, the ship travels up the Norwegian coast into the Arctic circle, with the furthest point north at the North Cap, near Honningsvåg.

On its way to Newcastle, arriving May 30, the Nieuw Statendam will also take in the Shetland Islands. The ship returns to Newcastle in June and July on different cruises.

Borussia Dortmund vs. Real Madrid, Champions League picks: Experts see Jude Bellingham, Vini Jr. winning title

Saturday will decide who is crowned champion of europe as the heavy favorites look to avoid slipping up against dortmund.

untitled-design-2024-05-31t122535-133.png

Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid play for the title at Wembley Stadium Saturday.

Real Madrid are the favorites to win a record 15th European title in London, and head to the British capital after an undefeated season in Champions League play. Their high-profile attack has taken center stage over the course of the campaign – Jude Bellingham emerged as the breakout star of the tournament with three goals and four assists, while each of Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo and Joselu have five goals.

Dortmund, meanwhile, are not to be underestimated after a Cinderella run to the final. They eye redemption 11 years after losing the final at Wembley to Bayern Munich and overcame a series of major hurdles along the way. They topped a group that included Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan and Newcastle United , later meeting PSG again in the semifinals and ousting the French champions. Dortmund come into the final with a strong defensive record, as goalkeeper Gregor Kobel leads the Champions League with six clean sheets, but also some attacking firepower in Marcel Sabitzer, who's in charge of the assist charts with five.

Here's what you need to know before the big game, including picks from experts across the CBS Sports team.

Champions League semifinal picks

Borussia dortmund vs. real madrid.

One matchup to watch -  Vinicius Junior vs. Julian Ryerson and Karim Adeyemi:  The Borussia Dortmund right flank might be forgiven for skipping over the tape from Real Madrid's semifinal win over Bayern Munich when the time comes to prepare for their forthcoming opponent. No one really needs to be shown how cruelly effective Vinicius can be when he gets the scent of weak prey. Real Madrid's No.7 has been in devastating form over recent months, saving his most decisive contributions for the biggest games with assists and goals in the triumphs over Manchester City and Bayern. Dortmund did a fine job of slowing but not stopping the advance of Paris Saint-Germain's wide forwards in the semifinals, but they will be tested once more come Saturday night.  -- James Benge

Most likely to score a goal -  Jude Bellingham: It feels written that the former Dortmund man will come back to haunt his ex-employers. Although Vini Jr. would be another good shout for this, the England international scoring a goal to seal Real's latest UCL crown and throwing down the gauntlet to Kylian Mbappe at the same time feels like the most probable scenario. Up against Los Blancos' firepower, it is hard to see Dortmund's rock solid defense resisting over 90 minutes. - Jonathan Johnson

Man of the Match pick -  Jude Bellingham:  I'm going to go along with Jonathan here as all signs point to this being the Jude Bellingham show. Playing his former team in front of home fans in England, Bellingham will not only score the winner for Real Madrid but he'll also put in a defensive shift to help contain Dortmund's attack. Already having one of the best debut seasons for a new club that we've seen, Bellingham will end it on the ultimate high winning the UCL final.   - Chuck Booth

Match prediction: Real Madrid are the leading favorites to win their 15th Champions League trophy, but Borussia Dortmund should not be underestimated, considering the importance of the final. The Spanish giants, thanks to the work of Carlo Ancelotti, can make history at Wembley and this is what I expect to happen. PICK: Real Madrid 2, BVB 0.    - Francesco Porzio
