Your Travel Must Haves
Tripped Travel Gear Packing Cubes Review
Quick overview.
- Good capacity
- Great design
- Compression issues
Most of us like traveling, but no one likes packing. Unfortunately, it is an inevitable part of the preparation process when you are getting ready for a trip, no matter how long the trip may be. What if we told you that it doesn’t have to be that much of a burden? With packing cubes the whole process is going to be easier, and you can say goodbye to wrinkled, unorganized clothes.
CHECK LATEST PRICE ON AMAZON.COM
This product will allow you to keep everything in place and the best thing about it is the low price it comes at. While there are a number of different models, with a bit of research you will be able to find an affordable and high-quality set. A perfect example of this is the Tripped Travel Gear Cubes kit that earned its place among the best selling on the Amazon market. Let’s find out why.
Tripped Travel Gear Packing Cubes
The price does matter, but it doesn’t always to signify high quality. With this Tripped set, you will get to save your money and time as you are getting more than enough packing cubes to cover your travel needs. Compact, elegant and sturdy, these bag organizers are an excellent buy if you are looking to simplify things.
Who is this product for?
It is quite clear that packing cubes are the product that everyone falls in love with. Who doesn’t like the possibility of saving suitcase space and keeping their clothes wrinkle-free? The Tripped Travel Gear Packing Cubes are extremely affordable, and as the set includes more than a few bag organizers, this product is suitable for both short and long trips.
What’s included?
While the basic info about this product is on point, the most important question is what’s included in the deal. With this offer, you will be getting two large compression cubes, two small compression cubes, as well as a slim tube and a laundry/shoe bag. The large bag organizers measure in at 14 x 10 inches while the small ones are 10 x 7 inches in size. This is enough to cover at least ten shirts, a few pairs of pants, a couple of shorts/skirts, a jacket, and a pair of shoes for your trip.
Overview of features
When reviewing products, the first thing that comes to our mind is the company behind it, and we can tell you that the Tripped Travel Gear brand is not unknown on the relevant market. Bearing this in mind, you can be pretty happy about this affordable offer, as it includes a few compression bags that are made of good ripstop nylon, that will endure as long as you don’t soak them in water (they are not waterproof) or put it to the test under any harsher conditions.
The highlighted feature of these packing cubes is the double compression zipper system that will allow you to save space and keep your clothes damage-free by removing any air from it. Additionally, while you can put these in a suitcase, the compression bags come with separate handles, meaning that you can carry them on their own as well.
Still, it would be hard not to mention a few cons that this product features. Firstly, it seems that the sewing is not of the best quality. Along with that, while we are talking about compression, that feature seems to lack smoothness.
Overall, we can say that this product is highlighted by an innovative idea that is perfect for shorter traveling trips, and while it lacks a bit in being perfectly executed, it is still a great buy for the price it is standing at.
Using the Tripped packing cubes is going to be as simple as putting in your clothes and packing the bag organizers in your suitcase. Apart from being an extra luggage item, you can use these separately by using the included handles. These compression bags feature a double zipper system that is going to work well as long as you are not rough on it.
Alternatives
Tripley compression packing cubes.
We always like to offer an alternative to the product we are reviewing and the Tripley set that includes three compression bags is a sturdy and medium-capacity kit that will cover your needs for a week-long trip. It has a better compression system than the above mentioned Tripped Travel Gear product, and it can sustain through rigorous conditions.
If you are constantly on the road, having a proper set of packing cubes will be a great long-term solution to stay stress-free. The Tripped set that we have reviewed is extremely affordable, and an excellent buy for people who enjoy any length of trip and want to keep their bag and clothes organized.

Dan Cooke, whose gear-making 'genius' covered the Minnesota outdoors, dies at 68
Explorer Will Steger recalled "emergency mukluks" before his epic expeditions.
Camping guru Cliff Jacobson remembered a specially made, multicolored tarp that caught the eye of a rescue plane in remote Saskatchewan.
Titans of Minnesota's outdoors community like Steger and Jacobson, and everyday folks who used and coveted Dan Cooke's gear and called him a friend, are reflecting this week on his adventurousness, kindness and gift for engineering exceptional products.
Cooke, 68, died Monday of brain cancer. He lived in Lino Lakes, where from his home he ran Cooke Custom Sewing, making items like canoe spray skirts and tarps that for some were must-haves on any paddling or camping trip. To his fans, there were his products, and everything else ran a distant second.
Steger said he and Cooke worked together on designs through iterations of drawings and scribbles beginning in 1988. Some of that work happened on Steger's visits to Lino Lakes, where Cooke and his wife, Karen, continued their sewing business from their basement after living up north. Karen died of ovarian cancer in 2018.
Nothing stumped Cooke, Steger added. "He was a kind soul and generous," Steger said Tuesday. "And genius."
Cooke was a fixture in the canoeing world, producing revamped packs and canoe covers, for example, and chatting with fans at shows like Canoecopia in Madison, Wis., or Midwest Mountaineering expos. He said in an interview several years ago that he was the ultimate field-tester before his products went out.
"I make them for myself," Cooke said. "If they work for me, I like to share them with other people."
His children said in a Facebook post after his death that their father got a lot of test opportunities — he was always planning his next trip: "He loved being outdoors, so much so that when he couldn't get away, you would find him in the back yard setting up a tent in the middle of winter. In the last few years, he was able to enjoy time spent canoeing down rivers in Alaska, kayaking in Antarctica, hiking Mt. Kilimanjaro, exploring Iceland, and visiting family across the U.S."
That spirit ran deep in Minnesota's wilderness, too. Jason Zabokrtsky, who owns and runs Ely Outfitting Co., connected with Cooke over their shared experience as guides into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness for Adventurous Christians children's camp off the Gunflint Trail.
Zabokrtsky now outfits his customers with packs computer-designed and made by Cooke.
"It so tough to find something so simple and yet so extraordinary," he said of Cooke's packs. "They wear like steel. Super bomber. So much design, so much thought and so much understanding put into them."
Zabokrtsky laughed at the memory of Cooke's home workspace — a "Santa's workshop" stuffed with fabric and bits of gear specialty parts — that ran counter to the end product: exacting detail and even upgrades with consistent quality.
"He knew how people used them. He was part of the community of users and he … was constantly talking to us all," Zabokrtsky said. The outfitter, for example, recalled that Cooke added bright red pack handles when he learned people were picking up packs by the compression straps.
Jacobson, also highly regarded in the tight paddling community and a popular guidebook writer, said Cooke came up with longer flaps on canoe packs to help keep gear dry.
"Some people think expertise is how many trips you've done and how far off the beaten path. Expertise is critical thinking about what is going on every time you do a trip, and that was what Dan did," Jacobson said. "'How can I make camping better? How can I make paddling better?'"
The veteran outdoorsman longed for more time with Cooke, his longtime friend and collaborator.
"I wanted to paddle more rivers with Dan."
Cooke's son Nate told the Star Tribune that the outpouring of condolences online and elsewhere are comforting.
"It feels like another trade show when all of Dan's friends come to say hi," he said.
Plans are underway for a public service in August at Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis, where Cooke taught people how to canoe.
Nate Cooke is also preparing to carry on the business he's helped his father build.
"For me, it's mighty big shoes to step into."

The 10 best fanny packs and belt bags for travel.
Combine hands-free convenience with style and organization.
The Best Fanny Packs and Belt Bags
Courtesy of Cotopaxi
Fanny packs of the 2020s are not the same as they were in the 1980s and 1990s. Yes, you can still find packs adorned with wild shapes, fluorescent colors and styles to perfect your Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson costume, but many of them are more fashion-forward. Choose from neutral tones, an array of fabrics (from recycled fibers to leather) and unique features to keep you organized.
What's more, fanny packs are useful. They free up your hands while keeping everything at your fingertips. You don't have to worry about a pack sliding from your back to your front (like a crossbody bag), nor will you suffer the excess heat on your back that often plagues backpack users.
If you're still not convinced, perhaps one of the packs below will help. Based on consumer reviews and travel expert insights, these are the best fanny packs for travelers. Whether you're vacationing solo , heading out on a hike or taking the kids to Walt Disney World , there's something on this list for you.
- Best Overall: Dagne Dover Ace Neoprene Fanny Pack

This pack comes in classic colors, including mauve, olive, camel, black and gray. Special seasonal colors and patterns may be available, too. It also comes in a recycled air mesh version that weighs less than 5 ounces.

What sets this pack apart: Patagonia's pack has a classic style, with one large zip pouch and a smaller zippered enclosure on the front. It comes in multiple colors from basic black to blue to moss green. What's more, the pack stows away into a stuff sack for easy portability and weighs less than 4 ounces. It's also made with 100% recycled materials. Patagonia also makes a larger version of this pack.
Travelers appreciate: "This light pack is the perfect size for your phone, wallet, car keys, and any other adventure essentials (sunscreen, dog treats, etc.)," says Zach Watson , senior editor of travel at U.S. News. "I'm always misplacing small equipment, but Patagonia's eye-catching colors help this pack stand out from my more monotone gear. My pack is still going strong after more than four years of regular use in sun, rain and snow."
Price: $35 or less
Courtesy of Lululemon
What sets the pack apart: The bag features a water-repellent fabric with two zippered compartments: one main section (which includes a mesh pouch inside) and one along the back exterior. This crossbody comes in multiple colors, including gray, black, green, pink and white. It also comes in a clear bag style with white or black trim. Select colors feature fabric made from recycled materials. The regular bag's strap reaches 41.7 inches, but you can buy a version of the bag with a longer strap that extends to 55.5 inches.
Travelers appreciate: "I started using the Lululemon Everywhere Belt Bag when I would take my son to a park or playground because it allowed me to keep my hands free and also kept all my essentials at my fingertips (without being bulky)," says Ann Henson , assistant managing editor of travel at U.S. News. "Now I use this as my everyday bag. It's easy to wipe clean and the interior pockets keep everything organized."
Megan Wood , senior editor of commerce for U.S. News' 360 Reviews, adds, "I especially love the size for walking my dog. It holds keys, treats and poop bags, and frees up my hands for holding the leash and a cup of coffee." Other reviewers also like the color variety, with several noting they own multiple different colors.
Price: $38 or less
Also consider: Reviewers say the ODODOS Unisex Mini Belt Bag is a durable, stylish dupe of the Everywhere bag. Plus, it's a budget-friendly alternative at about $14 or less.

What sets this pack apart: From snacks to fidget spinners, children have their own necessities during a trip. Everest's kid-sized waist pack could fit the bill. The pack itself measures roughly 8 x 2.5 x 3.5 inches and weighs 4 ounces when empty. The pack has two front-access zippered compartments. There are several kid-friendly color options, such as coral, purple, hot pink and turquoise.
Travelers appreciate: Travelers say the pack is perfect for small children, noting it fits their kids well and gives them space to keep small objects such as rocks and seashells safe as they explore. Nevertheless, parents do warn the buckle can be finicky and that the excess strap is long after adjusting (it can adjust up to 60 inches).
Price: $21 or less
What sets this pack apart: AttackCatBags prides itself on offering not only stylish fanny packs, but also inclusive sizing. Its waxed canvas bags come in youth to 6X sizes as well as two styles: a 12-inch hip pack or a 15-inch sling bag. The bags are covered in organic beeswax, which makes the bag fashionable and water-resistant. Bags come in various colors and patterns, such as pink, a moons and clouds print, and Japanese-inspired designs.
Travelers appreciate: Reviews compliment the quality of the bag, noting both its durable construction and beautiful fabrics. They also appreciate how big both the hip pack and sling bags are, saying they're both perfect for carrying the essentials on a trip.
Price: $70 or less
Also consider: Canvelle's Original Fanny Pack is another wonderful option as its strap reaches up to 61.5 inches (including the bag). It costs $95 or less for the original size. "Not only is this belt bag ideal for all body types, but it also offers a deceiving amount of space – even more so if you use one of the coordinating slim wallets," says Amanda Norcross , senior content and SEO strategist for travel at U.S. News. "I appreciate that it's machine washable, and that I can use it for literally anything: travel, concerts, everyday errands and more."
Courtesy of Veckle
What sets this pack apart: This clear fanny pack features a waterproof PVC material as well as two zip compartments. The strap adjusts up to 47 inches. The bag itself measures 11 x 6.5 x 5.9 inches, which meets the size requirements for events (most stadiums limit bags to 12 x 12 x 6 inches). Though clear, there are a few colorways such as black trim, gray trim, pink trim and white trim with a rainbow strap.
Travelers appreciate: Users say they've successfully taken this bag to concerts and stadiums that have clear bag rules. Many also appreciate the size of the bag, complimenting both its capacity and long strap.

What sets this pack apart: Thanks to RFID-blocking technology, locking waist straps, locking zippers and slash-resistant material, this Travelon fanny pack is ideal for jet-setters who want some extra security during their vacations. The bag features front and rear zippered pockets, and the interior has a key clip plus a small light. The strap can accommodate waists up to 48 inches in circumference. This pack comes in three colors: black, gray and teal. Keep in mind that to take full advantage of the security features, you'll have to relock the bag each time you get something out.
Travelers appreciate: The security features, plus the bag's classic style, appeal to reviewers. Some travelers say the bag was too small for their needs, while others say it was just the right size for essentials (like a passport, credit cards and a phone).
Price: $50 or less
What sets this pack apart: Each multicolor Cotopaxi fanny pack is one-of-a-kind. Possible colors you can combine include yellow, teal, olive or red. Purchasers have the option to select their own bag – or save a few dollars by receiving a mystery bag (and have no control over the colors). What's more, the materials are sustainably sourced: Packs are made from surplus nylon fabric that otherwise would've ended up in a landfill. The single zip compartment has two internal mesh pockets to help keep belongings organized.
Travelers appreciate: "Besides being fun to look at and wear, this durable fanny pack really packs a punch when it comes to outdoor activities," says Leilani Osmundson , senior digital producer for travel at U.S. News. "In addition to my phone, wallet and keys, I'm able to fit other hiking must-haves like snacks, first-aid supplies and even a small water bottle. Plus, with two mesh pockets inside, it's easy to keep things organized."
Price: $37.50 or less
Also consider: If you'd like slightly more subdued color options, you can't go wrong with Eddie Bauer's Stowaway Packable Waist Pack . "I've worn this bag while traveling, during hikes, at concerts, to bars – basically any scenario where you would want to have all your necessities on-hand without feeling weighed down," says Victoria Sheridan , home goods editor for 360 Reviews at U.S. News. Sheridan also says the bag is subtle enough to not clash with her outfits and it's durable: She's had her bag for about three years.

Don't forget these 5 gadgets when you travel this week
As a tech journalist, I often travel across the US -- and sometimes out of it -- to attend product launch events, trade shows, and other briefings for news that readers care about. It certainly helps to be based in New York City, where most of the gadgetry madness tends to occur, but when I am out and about (for work or play), there's a bag full of tech that I always have with me.
My treasure trove of electronics has evolved over recent years, transitioning to newer GaN chargers and more capable yet still portable camera systems . The five picks below are among my current arsenal of travel tech, and if you're traveling this week for the Fourth of July holiday, I highly encourage packing a few of these items into your carry-on.
I'll make this a little more exciting for you by stating the obvious: My phone and a reliable Bluetooth tracker are always with me, so I've opted not to put them on this list. Instead, you'll find products I've personally tested that are useful enough for you to consider for your next adventure.

DJI Osmo Pocket 3
While smartphone cameras have become very capable at capturing life's moments, I still prefer the enhanced stabilization and portability of a dedicated pocket camera, especially when I'm recording smooth-panning videos of product demos and scenery. The camera I've most recently settled on is the DJI Osmo Pocket 3, famous for its ability to record up to 4K resolution through a one-inch CMOS sensor. The output I've gotten has been reliable and impressive, both for vertical and horizontal footage, which can be set by physically swiveling the touchscreen viewfinder.
Does carrying an additional camera feel unnecessary? Not when the quality is noticeably better and it greatly reduces the battery consumption you'd otherwise put on your phone when recording videos. Reddit users who have used the Osmo Pocket 3 seem to agree, with the added benefits being better audio recording, improved video stabilization, and a larger sensor for more dramatic shots.

Lenovo Go Wireless Power Bank 10,000mAh
Lenovo's power bank may look unassuming, but trust me when I say there's more to it than what meets the eye. Besides having a 10,000mAh capacity, meaning there's enough juice to power a phone (and other accessories like earbuds) two to three times, a fairly long USB-C cable is built into the battery pack, saving you the hassle of carrying a separate one.
Here's the second trick: the Lenovo Go can wirelessly charge Qi-supported devices when you place them on top of the accessory, allowing you to charge two devices at once (via wired and wireless) if you're feeling adventurous.
While the charge output is capped at 30W, many customers on Lenovo's website have found the power bank adequate for powering phones, tablets, and earbuds, and have been particularly satisfied with the built-in charging cable.

Ayaneo Flip
I don't consider myself a hardcore gamer, but I've found traveling, especially when on long flights, to be the perfect opportunity to get my NBA 2K and Rocket League fix. Lately, my vehicle of choice for gaming has been the Ayaneo Flip, a Windows-powered handheld with Nintendo DS written all over it, from the dual touchscreen displays to the ergonomic shoulder triggers. Thanks to the OS and a capable AMD Ryzen 7 processor, I've been able to play Steam and Epic Games titles right on the device at medium to high graphic settings.
The big question mark with the Ayaneo Flip is its price point and availability, according to several interested Reddit users. With a starting price of $699, the Flip can best be justified by those who want a competent, on-the-go gaming handheld that can also be used for standard PC tasks like web browsing, streaming videos, and emailing. One of the Flip's most underrated features is the ability to output to a monitor or TV screen for a gaming experience more similar to standard consoles.

Meta Ray-Ban Smart Glasses
While the Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses are fantastic for recording hands-free videos, I've found them more practical as a wearable tour guide. Thanks to recent Meta AI updates , the glasses can pull context from what's in front of you, whether it's a monument, statue, or restaurant storefront, and answer your most burning questions. I've used the smart glasses to identify unfamiliar landmarks, tell me the most popular food items at a local restaurant, play music from artists from the city that I've traveled to, and more.
The general sentiment toward the Meta Ray-Bans has been mostly positive, with Reddit users favoring the ease of use, comfort, and various capabilities. The price point of the glasses, starting at $299, is fairly competitive as well.

Nomad 65W Slim Power Adapter
Besides carrying a portable battery pack, I also travel with Nomad's 65 Slim Power Adapter, which fields two USB-C ports to charge tablets, phones, earbuds, and even laptops, like my MacBook Air. To help with portability, the prongs are collapsible, the charger is very slim, and it lies flush when plugged into the outlet. Carrying the accessory around is like carrying a pack of mints.
Customers, including ZDNET's Adrian Kingsley-Hughes, have expressed satisfaction with Nomad's 65W Slim Power Adapter, appreciating the speedy power delivery and support for two USB-C inputs. I especially recommend this charging adapter for users with ultraportable devices like lightweight and smaller laptops and iPads.

Why should you trust me?
When I'm not writing about technology, I'm probably working overtime as my family's IT support guy. And when I'm not working at all, I'm likely watching, reading, or consuming some form of content about technology. So when I make product recommendations, I suggest gadgets I've personally tested and have proven to deliver the value (if not more value) that manufacturers promise.
My main expertise is mobile, from phones to wearables to accessories, which plays hand-in-hand with the topic of this story. I also travel about 10 times throughout the year, including from New York to California, so I've developed an understanding of which gadgets are essential and which are optional.
How do you pack electronics for traveling?
When traveling, storing any devices with lithium-ion batteries, such as laptops, tablets, and power banks, in your carry-on baggage is best. If my gadgets aren't already stored in a tech pouch or cushioned bag, I'll surround them with clothing to prevent any damage during travel.

Planning on traveling for the Fourth of July holiday? Here’s how to avoid the rush

NEW YORK (AP) — The Fourth of July is right around the corner, and the travel rush is already heating up.
Millions of Americans are preparing to get out of town sometime in the coming holiday week. That will likely mean busy roads, as well as packed airports and train stations.
Motor club AAA projects that some 70.9 million travelers will head 50 miles (80 kilometers) or more from their homes over a nine-day Independence Day travel period — surpassing pre-pandemic numbers for the U.S. holiday. And the Transportation Security Administration expects to screen over 32 million individuals in airports from this Thursday through July 8, up 5.4% from last year’s numbers.
Are you traveling for the Fourth? Here’s a rundown of what you need to know.
When is the best time to hit the road for July Fourth?
Smooth sailing for travel around any holiday is never a given. But avoiding the most hectic times, when others are rushing out of town, is a good way to start.
If you’re traveling by car for the Fourth of July, it’s best to hit the road in the morning, according to transportation data and insights provider INRIX. Peak traffic congestion varies by location, INRIX data published by AAA shows, but the worst times to drive on, or leading up to, the holiday are generally between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Either way, be prepared for the roads to be jammed.
“Road trips over the holiday week could take up to 67% longer than normal,” Bob Pishue, transportation analyst at INRIX, said in a prepared statement.
This story is featured in our One Notable Number series , which spotlights the key numbers leading our coverage.
Take a look at more Notable Numbers here.

July Fourth falls on a Thursday this year, and many travelers will likely take Friday July 5th off to extend their trip into a four-day weekend. Drivers in large metro areas can expect the biggest delays on Wednesday July 3 and Sunday July 7 — as travelers leave and return to town, Pishue added.
And if you’re renting a car ahead of July Fourth, the busiest pickup days will be Friday, Saturday and Wednesday before the holiday, AAA notes.
When will airports be busiest?
Airports will also likely be packed all week long — but the TSA expects most people will take to the skies on Friday.
It anticipates that it will screen more than 3 million individuals Friday. That would surpass the agency’s current record for most people screened on a single day, which reached just under 3 million last Sunday.
“We expect this summer to be our busiest ever,” TSA Administrator David Pekoske said, adding that travel typical peaks around Independence Day.
Last year, the busiest day for Fourth of July air travel was also the Friday ahead of the holiday, TSA data shows. If past trends hold, travel will likely be higher on the days before and after the Fourth — particularly closer to the weekend. In 2023, for example, more than 2 million people were screened on the Fourth, which landed on a Tuesday last year, down from 2.88 million the Friday before.
What should I do if my flight is delayed or canceled?
Flights can be delayed or canceled for an array of reasons — from plane-specific mechanical problems to major storms impacting popular travel paths.
If your flight is canceled, airlines are required to provide refunds for customers, even if the cancellation is due to weather . Delays are trickier, because they typically have to meet certain criteria for relief, such as refunds or compensation — but carriers will often give customers to chance to switch to alternative flights, if available, at no cost.
In April, the Biden administration issued final rules that include requiring airlines to provide automatic cash refunds within a few days for canceled flights and “significant” delays. Those rules are set to take effect over the next two years, but the Department of Transportation has a site that lets consumers see the commitments each airline has made for refunds and covering other expenses when flights are canceled or significantly delayed.
Always check your itinerary before leaving home
It’s better to be stuck at home than locked in hourslong traffic or stranded in an airport terminal. Before heading out the door this holiday week, do yourself a favor and check the status of your travel plans.
Was your flight, train or bus ride delayed? Are there are traffic incidents set to disrupt your drive? And what about the weather? A quick look through your itinerary — such as trip updates on a carrier’s website — checking weather forecasts and monitoring traffic safety through services like the 511 hotline or your phone’s navigation apps can go a long way toward avoiding travel misery.
Here are a few more tips to keep in mind:
— Leave early: There are more people everywhere during a holiday week, so lines will be longer and roads will be busier. Give yourself more time to get to your destination or to make your way through airport security.
— Keep an eye on the weather — and not just for your destination: Look at the weather for your entire travel path. Even if it’s sunny skies both at home and the place you’re headed, it’s important to keep an eye out for any storms in between. You may need to do some rerouting.
— Be kind: A trip delay or cancellation can be really frustrating — but if you’re running into disruptions, chances are others are too. Customer service agents have a lot on their plate at this time of year, and it’s important to be patient and respectful as they try to help you.
