Thank you Shawna for this TA information. I just now found it for the first time!

You are welcome, Pam!

This is great information Shawna, thanks?!

You’re very welcome, Melinda!

Outstanding!! wish I had seen this sooner. I just rented a car for 3 weeks from Alamo in Ft Lauderdale. I showed the counter attendant my CLIA card and asked for a discount, which I did not get.

Why wouldn’t they accept it? Was it because it wasn’t an IATAN card? I have a CLIA card as well. Marriot Hotel Excellence allows a CLIA card for their FAMtastic rates

This is great information and it is very helpful. Thank you for all your hard work. I would appreciate if you could send me an email have a few questions hoping you can help me with. Thanks in advance.

Do you know if Radisson or other hotels accept CLIA card, if we don’t yet have an IATAN card?

Hi Samantha! Per their current online registration form, they accept IATA/ARC/TIDS/CLIA/TRUE.

Thank you for this update!

Shawna, I dont sell enough to qualify for an IATA card myself. Can I use the agency’s number instead or does it have to be person specific to register for these discounts? Thanks so much

Hi Joan! Thank you for your question! These discounts typically require the agent to show their personal IATA card at the location.

i just called Sea World in San Antonio and they did not know anything about the 50% off. Do you konw if it is park or city specific? I have an IATA card.

Thanks. Tim

Our team members that have used this discount in the past simply showed their IATA card at the gate. We’ll look into this to see if the deal is no longer being offered!

**Centrav cannot guarantee availability or access to discounts mentioned in this post.

Thank you! I love the Centrav posts!

Thank you, Nanci!

Thank you for the wonderful post.

Do you happen to know if I can apply for an IATAN card even if I do not work for a travel company?

Thank you, Saurabh

Hi Saurabh,

Thank you for your comment! In order to be eligible for an IATA/IATAN card, an agent must work for an IATA-accredited travel agency.

Check out this post for more info: https://resources.centrav.com/get-iata-card/

Thanks very much

Thank you so much for this!

You are welcome!

Hi Shawna, I am an admin for a nationally touring music band. I am interested in learning how to get travel agent discounts on mostly flights and hotel for the band. Do I need to become a travel agent for that? If you could lead me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

Hi Cyndee! We can send you more detailed information shortly!

Thank you for this information.

You’re welcome, Marilyn!

Hello, thank you for this guide. Do you know if travel agents are able to get discounts with baggage for flights ?

I am not aware of travel agent discounts for luggage, however, some private airfares offer extra luggage! This is totally dependent on the airline, routing, etc.

Marriott Travel Agents: Up to 50% off and other promotions - Cover Image

Travel Agents are one of the biggest sources of revenue for most hotels. And just like any other business, hotels also value their revenue sources and have programs to maintain a good relationship with them.

Hilton Honors has its Hilton Travel Agent Program and IHG has its own IHG Travel Agent Perks .

Similarly, there’s the Marriott Travel Agent Program. The Marriott Travel Agent Program is a program that allows travel agents to book hotel rooms for their clients at a discounted rate. Travel agents can also earn commissions on room sales.

After the merger with SPG, Marriott is too big for any travel agent to ignore. Luckily, Marriott offers excellent value for Travel Agents and an easy-to-use system.

Marriott Travel Agent Program offers a competitive commission structure, international recognition and a strong relationship with Marriott International.

Like most travel agent programs, Marriott offers two types of benefits:

  • Discounts and perks for personal travel
  • Commission on client bookings

Marriott Travel Agent Rates for Personal Travel

There are 2 ways a travel agent can book a Marriott property at a discounted rate for personal travel.

  • Marriott Fam-tastic Rate, and

Marriott Travel Agent Rate

Marriott fam-tastic rate.

Marriott’s FAMTastic program is a familiarization program of Marriott for travel agents.

A hotel familiarization program is a program designed to give travel agents or hotel employees a thorough understanding of the hotel’s facilities, services, and policies. The program may include tours of the hotel, lectures on hotel procedures, and hands-on training in various aspects of hotel operations. However the most popular benefit is FAM trips.

Fam trips are a great way to stay at a property, see facilities and get a taste of what the property has to offer. They are a great opportunity to meet the team and build contacts.

These come in pretty handy for travel agents as they can confidentaly recommend a property and have contacts in case any client needs help during the stay. This also helps plan and negotiate conferences or events.

When you book a stay for your personal travel with Marriott FAMTastic, you can get good discounts as a travel agent.

The discount can go up to as much as 50% in some cases but generally it would be around 15-45% for most properties.

FAM trips are pretty popular with travel agents where some hotels and resorts even offer free stays once in a while. However, these trips are generally available to agents with big agencies or with a big turnover.

In case of Marriott, there are no free trips. However, any qualifying travel agent can directly book these discounted rates online.

Who is eligible for Marriott FAM-Tastic rates?

Marriott’s FAM-Tastic rate, for personal travel of travel agents.

Travel Agents need to complete Marriott’s Hotel Excellence program (will take a few hours at the most) and earn the status of Marriott’s ‘Hotel Sales Specialist’ (HSS).

Apart from the Hotel Excellence Program, to qualify for Fam-Tastic benefits, you must:

  • Complete the latest Continuing Education training.
  • Ensure your profile has been updated.
  • US advisors must also have a valid IATAN VER or CLIA EMBARC ID number added to their ‘Hotel Excellence!’ profile.

You will also need to provide a valid ID at check-in.

For travel advisors associated with a US agency: an IATA/IATAN VER# photo ID Card or CLIA EMBARC Photo ID Card. IATA/IATAN offers digital cards which are also accepted at check-in.

For advisors associated with an agency outside the US or for agents associated with a AAA location: a valid photo ID and a business card or employment verification letter on the letterhead of their agency is required.

How to book FAM-Tastic rate?

All registered travel agents can book Marriott FAM-Tastic rates on Travel Agents Dashboard .

You can view, modify and cancel the stays on the same dashboard.

FAM-Tastic is a non-qualifying rate. That means you won’t earn commissions, Marriott Bonvoy points or elite status night credits for your FAM-Tastic stays.

The Fam-Tastic rate is eligible for Marriott Bonvoy points for stays arriving at or after May 2, 2022.

The FAM-Tastic rates are limited to a single room per booking, with a maximum of 4 nights per stay. You can’t book more than 1 stay at the same property in 1 calendar year.

Not as discounted as Marriott’s Fam-tastic rate, Marriott Travel Agent rate comes with almost negligible restrictions.

The Travel Agent rate does not have a maximum number of nights allowed per stay. It is subject to availability, though.

All active accredited travel agents with a valid ARC/IATA/IATAN/TIDS/CLIA number will be eligible to book the Travel Agent rate. An accredited travel agent may book a maximum of 2 rooms at the Travel Agent rate per stay.

How to book Marriott’s travel agent rate?

Marriott’s travel agent rates can be booked on the travel agent rate page. You can also use the code 7TA to search for travel agent rates.

Booking for Clients

Marriott offers commissions to travel agents when they book on behalf of their clients.

This is a pretty straightforward process.

On the ‘Guest Information’ page, check the box under the ‘Address’ section that says ‘Yes, I am a travel agent or planner’.

Enter your IATA Number in the field provided. Then proceed as normal.

Marriott Travel Agent Booking Page

Along with the rates, you will now be able to see if a booking is commissionable or not.

Save 15-50% at Marriott hotels

At Marriott, Renaissance & The Ritz-Carlton hotels you can book cheap travel agent rates. You can save between 15-50% depending on the hotel, area and time of year. In some periods of the year it may not be possible to get a discount, then try and search for some other dates to find the best agent offers.

How to book Marriott travel agent rates / FAM rates Go to www.marriott.com and fill in TVL in the “Corporate / promotional code” field in the search box under “Special rates”. Then you will see the travel industry rates if there are any available at the special rates.

Remember to bring a proof that you are a travel agent if you book at these rates. Like a business card or a valid IATA Card. Most often they don’t ask for any proof at the reception during check-in.

Marriott travel agent discount code and  famtastic rates

The discount code to search for the Marriott famtastic rates is T77. Remember to complete the travel agent program before booking at the famtastic rates. Normally these rates are almost always the same as the normal Marriott discounted travel agent rates. But some hotels – especially new ones – offers a even lower price for travel agents who have completed the program – so it’s worth signing up.

Who can book these special rates?

The travel agent rates and famtastic rates are only for people employed in the travel industry. Always check in the rules and regulations that you are allowed access to the discounted rates. Some Marriott discounts are also available at airline staff and crew rates. The hotels will most likely want to see some form of proof that you really work for a travel agency (or an airline). Do not try and book at these rates if you are not a travel agent or employed in the travel industry.

Hi Amos Meyer.

I am not able to help you make your booking at the Marriot agent rates rates – you need to do that yourself on Marriotts website like I write on this site.

Please be aware that you need to be a professional travel agent to book the discounted rate – you will be asked to show some Travel agent ID when you check in.

10 Ways To Book A Marriott Hotel With A Discount

popular post today

10 Ways To Book A Marriott Hotel With A Discount

1. Get Free Benefits With A Luxury Travel Agent

2. join the marriott bonvoy loyalty scheme, 3. book early, 4. bag a bargain at our travel auction, 5. take advantage of discounted advance purchase rates, 6. vacation out of the main season, 7. book a brand new marriott hotel, 8. stay shorter, 9. promo codes, 10. travel somewhere cheaper.

Some of the best hotels in the world are Marriott Bonvoy hotels and resorts. The best way to get a discount, special offers, free benefits and ultimately the cheapest rate at a Marriott Bovoy hotel is to book with an official Luminous and STARS travel agency like our luxury travel concierge .

Luminous and STARS programs offer extra benefits to guests who book via a Luminous and STARS travel agency. Plus, you still get all your Mariott Bonvoy loyalty points.

If you book on the Marriott website direct, you may not get the best deal. Book your next Marriott stay via our luxury travel concierge , and we can secure you free loyalty-style benefits on top of your own status and membership benefits for no extra cost.

The great thing about this is that you can get these free benefits while taking advantage of Marriott Bonvoy’s special offers, which you can find on their website or from our agents, who can advise on the best offers. Individual Marriot hotels and resorts will run packages that can be very attractive.

Marriott brands include St. Regis, W, EDITION, JW Marriott, The Luxury Collection, Marriott Hotels, Westin, Le Méridien, Renaissance Hotels, Sheraton, Delta Hotels by MarriottSM, Marriott Executive Apartments, Marriott Vacation Club, Autograph Collection Hotels, Tribute Portfolio™, Design Hotels™, Gaylord Hotels, Courtyard, and more. Our luxury travel agency offers free benefits at most, but not all, of these Marriott hotels. If in doubt, feel free to ask one of our agents. We would be delighted to help you!

We outline how to book a Marriott hotel with a discount in more detail below:

You can take advantage of our free benefits in addition to earning your Marriott Bonvoy points and benefiting from your Bonvoy status. Even if you don’t have status with the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty scheme, you will get our benefits from your very first stay at Marriott Bonvoy Hotels and Resorts. Book with our luxury travel agency . It really is that easy, and the rates you pay will usually be the same as those on the Marriott website.

While “there is no such thing as a free lunch,” you might as well collect what you are owed. Whether you are booking via the Marriott website direct or with our own luxury travel agency , you can collect Marriott Bonvoy points at most Marriott hotels, so it is worth signing up for the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty scheme and collecting these rewards points.

Marriott hotels and resorts run at a high occupancy rate. I regularly recommend clients who book their stay with our luxury travel concierge to book as soon as the rates come out. This can be a year in advance! It is certainly not worth holding out for a last-minute discount as these magical discounts don’t usually come up in popular destinations.

At the last minute, you are unlikely to be able to book the cheapest room, and the room you wanted may have sold out, so you can be left paying a premium for a view or extra space that you don’t need and don’t want to pay for.

We have loads of luxury hotel stays in our luxury travel auction , which offers a genuine and massive discount at certain hotels, including Marriott hotels. These are one-off items, so when they’re gone, they’re gone.

Although we tend to offer some really great hotel stays worldwide, the volume of Marriott-specific stays in our auction does vary at any one time. Our auction also offers luxury stays beyond the Marriott brand, so it is worth looking around as there may be a hotel stay that appeals to you.

If you are booking in advance and are sure of your dates, you should take advantage of advance purchase discounted rates. This is one of the few ways to get you a cheaper room at the best hotels in the world. Advance purchase rates offer anywhere from 10-50% discount off the usual hotel rates. You must be sure of your dates because there are no refunds on most advance purchase rates once you have booked.

If you re-arrange your dates, target your favorite Marriott hotel or resort out of season. For example, Venice is massively discounted mid-winter, so you can pick up a much cheaper rate at the JW Marriot Venice out of the main season (late May to September). Early October and early May can be the perfect time to visit Venice, and the rates tend to be much more reasonable. The same goes for other destinations such as the Caribbean; May, June, and November tend to be good times to visit the Caribbean. Falling just outside the rainy season, these months still enjoy great weather but tend to be quieter and usually cost less for the same hotel and same room than the peak winter months.

Get the same hotel and facilities for a discounted price. Think beyond the resort to the hotel. If you can still swim in the pool, drink in the bar, eat in the restaurant, and enjoy the ambiance, it is worth considering amending your plans accordingly.

Brilliant new Marriott hotels are opening all the time. Keep an eye out for one opening in a destination that you want to visit. New hotels are usually cheaper, both in paid rates and for point redemptions.

It sounds obvious when you say it out loud, but I would prefer three nights at a good St. Regis or JW rather than a week at a Courtyard Marriott. If you book in for one night, you can still take advantage of our early check-in / late check-out, free breakfast, and resort credit, and you still get the amenity (assuming the Marriott is part of the Luminous or STARS program).

There are corporate promo discount codes that you can use on Marriott.com, so if you are an employee of a company like Goldman Sachs, Bank Of America, IBM, AAA, or the government, you might be able to take advantage of these discounts. These discounted corporate rates can be cheaper than the STARS or Luminous benefits rates. Still, these discounted rates do not come with any valuable benefits, so these rates are not always the best deal, particularly for short stays.

As any corporate discount may not be as good as the free benefits offered by our luxury travel concierge , we suggest asking for a free quote so you can compare prices and benefits and get the full picture before booking.

We can advise the best Marriott hotel in any city or worldwide, but Paris is always more expensive than Kuala Lumpur. If you decide to holiday in a cheaper destination like Portugal, Greece, or some incredible Asian destinations (excluding Hong Kong and Singapore), you will find your cash or points stretch a lot further.

First question on the docket: Do travel agents get discounts? They sure do, my friend!

Although, as we'll discuss further, there is a lot more nuance to things than just a yes or no when it comes to if travel agents get discounts. Keep on reading because we'll go over which travel agents get discounts (every supplier is going to have different parameters) and what types of travel advisors can get discounts for.

Different Types of Travel Agent Rates & Incentives

Every supplier is going to have a different kind of travel agent rate or loyalty program. Some are complicated. Some are simple.

Here’s what you can generally expect in terms of travel agent discount programs:

  • Point Systems: Depending on the vendor, point systems offer you just that — a certain number of points per night booked. Points allotted will likely vary by tier of property. If you book a luxury property, you’ll get more points. Travel agent point systems, while somewhat complicated, are great for flexibility. It levels the playing field and operates like an amped-up client-facing rewards program.
  • Cash Incentives: Some vendors will offer travel agents hard cash for bookings (e.g. you get $25 for every room night booked). This isn't a rate or discount, but it's definitely an incentive!
  • Straight-up Flat Discounts: Some travel agent discounts are simple—you get a certain percentage off your stay. Easy peasy.
  • Special Reduced Rates: Because you’re a travel agent (or because you love to travel), you know that suppliers have peak seasons, different classes of properties, rooms, etc. Many suppliers will issue reduced rates exclusive to travel agents, outlining what the cost is for a different room category, itinerary, sailing date, etc.
  • Traveling for Free: Free travel is not the norm. There are circumstances travel agents may get a free cruise, a free theme park ticket, or free nights at a resort (etc.). This typically happens after a travel agent completes a vendor’s training program or if you're a top sales person of that supplier/brand.
  • Group Travel Rates : I’m not going to go deep into group rates, since this is something that (believe it or not) is typically offered in addition to travel agent rates. If you book a certain number of people on a trip or cruise (or a certain number of nights stay) you get a free credit you can use for yourself or for a client. (e.g. for Globus brands, you can receive travel agent discounts ranging from 25% - 100% depending on itinerary, group size, and when you book.)
  • Familiarization (FAM) Trips: In my mind, FAM trips are more of a travel agent perk than a travel agent discount or rate. FAMs are free or deeply discounted trips offered to travel agents (or travel professionals) to educate them about a product or destination. Here's a great explainer of FAM trips .

Suppliers want to keep travel agents happy! Many will have some combination of these perks above.

8 Things You Need to Know About Travel Agent Rates & Discounts

Here are a few things to know about what to expect when you're shopping for travel agent discounts:

1. You Need an Accreditation Number to Get travel agent Discounts

You need to be a travel agent to access travel agent rates and discounts. What makes someone a travel agent? An accreditation number . . . whether you get your own or align with a host agency .

2. Travel Agent Discounts are for Active Travel Agents

Beyond having an accreditation number, you need to sell travel. I know this may seem incredibly obvious, but oftentimes vendors will only offer travel agent rates or perks after you reach a certain sales threshold.

3. A Niche Will Help You Get More Travel Agent Bonuses & Rates (Here’s Why)

Part of developing a travel agent niche is getting a pulse on who your preferred suppliers are. When you begin to get a handle on what suppliers you love, you can focus your time and energies on learning those suppliers inside out.

This will help you establish the deep product knowledge and supplier relationships required to be a successful seller. In turn, you'll have access to more travel agent discounts and rewards as your sales increase.

4. You Often Need to Complete a Vendor Certification to Get a Discount

If you’re completely new, you’re not going to have a long scroll of past sales to help you access travel agent rates. But don’t worry. Many suppliers offer special rates, FAMs, or even free trips once you complete their training programs.

You'll want to make sure you stay current on supplier certifications so you can keep up with their updates and offer your clients the most recent info. Suppliers want you to love their brands and they know you gotta experience it yourself to love it!

5. Rules Most Likely Apply

Travel agent discounts are often saddled with long terms and conditions and/or fine print. This fine print may be peppered with info like blackout dates or that rates are subject to change (without asking for your permission). Unsurprisingly, travel agent rates are non-commissionable.

6. Travel Agent Rates and Programs can Change

Yep. They can and do. So when you read about specific travel agent discounts below, be sure you always check directly with your supplier/ BDM (Business Development Manager) for the most updated travel agent discount policy!

7. Q: If You Book Under a Host agency, Will You Get Your Discount?

Yes. When you set up your logins on host portals, suppliers will know which agent booked what and you’ll get your due glory.

When you set up your logins on host portals, suppliers will know which agent booked what and you’ll get your due glory.

An exception is Disney. For Earmarked Disney agencies (Disney's top selling agency program), it's the accrediting agency that will receive the allotted theme park tickets and travel agent rates to distribute among their agents. So ask your agency how that works if you want to get in it. That said, there are still incentives for solo Disney advisors who complete the College of Disney Knowledge! (Just check out the download !)

8. If you get bonuses, you may need to pay taxes on it

Any point system that can be exchanged for cash may be subject to taxes if you earn more than $600 in bonuses. Don’t ask me. Ask your accountant and make sure you know the tax implications of points you cash in.

Travel Agent Rates & Discounts that Will Make Your Brain Explode 🤯

Let's be honest with ourselves, this is probably why you're here for! To find more information on the travel agent rates, click on the link in the cell.

Also, things change. While we update this annually, check directly with the supplier for the most current travel agent rates and discounts.

Questions to Ask About Travel Agent Rates

You'll likely have questions about a supplier's travel agent rates. One thing to stress is that only asking about a supplier's discounts for travel agents is... well, it's tacky. Bottom line: Your first communication with a vendor should not be about their travel agent rates.

Your first communication with a vendor should not be about their travel agent rates.

These rates are for travel pros who are serious about their trade and want to increase sales. Make the effort to educate yourself on the product, let your BDM (business development manager) know your plan to help increase your sales for their product, and THEN you can ask about the travel agent rates.

If you’re really wanting to compare different rates and programs, here are a few questions you to think about, some of which are in the download above!

  • What travel accreditations are accepted? (TRUE may not be accepted everywhere)
  • Are there companion benefits?
  • Do you need to complete supplier education to secure the rate? If so, how often do I need to renew or recertify (if at all)?
  • Are there other eligibility requirements?
  • What's the sales threshold to attain travel agent rates or benefits?
  • Does belonging to a host agency impact my benefits?
  • What are typical blackout dates or seasons?
  • How long do I have to redeem my travel agent benefits (if it’s a point system)? When do they expire?
  • How do I request or access these benefits?

I'm going to do a deeper dive into a few travel agent hotel rates. There are a zillion different properties so I'm including just a few here. They offer a good idea of what kind of rates travel agents can expect from hotels.

You may be able to find better travel agents rates if you book the hotel through a tour operator.

Keep in mind that these hotel programs listed below are hotel-direct. Advisors seeking discounted hotel rates will need to book them directly through the hotel (rather than booking via a tour operator).

Another thing to note is that hotels with education programs typically will offer the best travel rates (above a standard travel agent rate).

(International Hotel Group) IHG Travel Agent Rates

IHG is linked and included in our download above . Yay! IHG offers a baseline discount of 35% off their Best Flex Rate to travel agents. Not to0 shabs!

Marriott Travel Agent Rates

Marriott acquired Starwood in 2015. So if you're looking for Starwood's travel agent rates, look no further than Marriott. Marriott has two different types of travel agent rates. Here's the rundown:

1. Marriott Travel Agent Rates

Marriott's travel agent rate is their blanket travel agent rate program which isavailable to any accredited travel agent with a valid IATA, ARC, CLIA or TIDS accreditation number . It's worth noting that Marriott does not accept TRUE number s.

The travel agent rate varies depending on availability, hotel category, and season. Marriott's travel agent discounts run up to 50% , but you can typically expect less. (At the time of writing this, the discounts ranged from 10-15% when I searched my hometown.)

Marriott's travel agent rate offers can be used to book up to two rooms for unlimited nights (depending on availability)

Marriott's travel agent rate offers can be used to book up to two rooms for unlimited nights (depending on availability).

Here's how to take advantage of Marriott's travel agent rate offers:

Marriott Travel Agent Programs

1. To access Marriot's rates, travel agents need an IATA ARC, CLIA, or TIDS number (and the ID to prove it when you check-in).

2. Search Marriott's travel agent rates here (Main menu>Promotions>Travel Agent Rate Search).

3. Log in/register to make a booking!

2. Marriott's Fam-Tastic Travel Agent Rates

Marriott's Fam-Tastic program is designed less for personal leisure and more to provide an opportunity for agents to familiarize themselves with properties (hence the name).

For Marriott's Fam-tastic program, advisors can reserve one room for four nights maximum.

This program is only available to Marriott's preferred travel agencies . You can visit host profiles and drop them a note in the Q&A section to ask if they are a preferred Marriott agency.

Question and answer section on host agency profile

Marriott's FAM-tastic rate offers deeper discounts than their standard travel agent rate but with more requirements. In addition to fulfilling the requirements for a standard travel agent rate, other requirements include:

  • Marriott Bonvoy membership
  • Complete Core Hotel Excellence! (HE!) classes
  • Fulfill HE! continuing credits every year
  • Have an updated Marriott International (MI) Partner Privileges profile

Here's how to access Marriott's FAM-tastic rates:

1. Log into your Marriott Partner Privileges account .

Travel Agent Airline Discounts

I'm going to take a deep dive into travel agent airline discounts. Why? Travel agent airline discounts are more complicated to access for a smaller reward .

Here's why . . .

These travel agent airline rates are typically referred to as "AD50" or "AD75," signifying 50%-75% airline discounts for travel agents. At first, this seems like an amazing discount.

But as you’ve probably guessed, travel agents do not get 50-75% off their airline tickets. Otherwise, so many people would want to become a travel agent that our website would break :)

Without going too deep into the weeds, here's why these airline discounts can seem misleading at first.

Airlines break seats down into many different fare classes . All these fare classes have different pricing and rules attached to them. Among other things, the fare classes help the airline understand if you paid full fare or a discounted rate, if you’re in first class/business class/economy class, if you’re doing one way or round trip, and lots of other details.

Even at 50-75% off, Y fare class seats usually cost more than the other economy tickets available.

When it comes to travel agent airline discounts, the AD50 and AD75 discounts apply only to Y-fare class seats, which are full-fare economy seats. Essentially, they’re the most expensive economy-class tickets possible. Even at 50-75% off, Y fare class seats usually cost more than the other economy tickets available.

Not only are AD50 and AD75 discounts often more expensive than other economy tickets available, but there are also more hoops to jump through to access them. Airlines that offer these flight discounts will often have stringent eligibility requirements and detailed terms and conditions required to even request them.

According to seasoned corporate travel advisor and owner of Pioneer Travel, Mike Edic, "By the time you figure out the 'discounted' price, you can still purchase a real ticket for a lot less." Edic elaborated that these rates are seldom cheaper unless it's a last-minute booking (where all that remains are those pricey, full-fare Y-class seats).

This is a living, changing, breathing document . . . Do you have a favorite travel agent rate or reward program? Holler in the comments!

Hi Jerry, I added the known Marriott Black Friday deals to the post, and will add more when new promotions are out. It’s my understanding their Cyber Monday deal already started.

5 travel discounts that can save you money

Caroline Tanner

Editor's Note

As travel continues to get more expensive, our core goal at TPG remains the same: to introduce our readers to all the ways they can save money while traveling.

Our bread and butter is leading you to the right credit cards to maximize points and miles savings. However, we also love providing you with travel discounts — including some you may not have even realized you were eligible for.

AAA and AARP rates

Both AAA and AARP offer discounts at various travel companies, including popular hotel chains and rental car companies.

With varying discounts (5%-10%) available on standard nightly rates, be sure to indicate you are a member when searching for a hotel to reserve these special rates. Note that you have to book directly with the hotel to take advantage of these rates. Participating hotel brands include Hyatt, Hilton, IHG and Marriott.

travel agent discount code for marriott

In addition to a discounted rate, memberships may offer additional benefits, such as free parking.

Membership can also help you save on car rentals, up to 20% for AAA and 30% for AARP. Additionally, AAA Northeast members are eligible for preferred rates at Dollar, Hertz and Thrifty; they can also get the under-25 rental car fee waived at Hertz and get free car seats at some locations.

As with the hotel rates, discounted car rates vary based on location and when you rent.

For all AAA car rental discounts, see AAA's website .

Government and military rates

If you are a government employee (at the national, state or local level) or work for any other public employer (such as a school district or transportation agency), you may be eligible for government rates.

Like AAA and AARP rates, you can book government and military rates on the hotel site directly as a special rate. Federal government rates differ from state government rates and are set to a per diem the federal government selects, which you can view on the General Services Administration website .

Additionally, you might find military rates. On both the state and federal government rates, travel orders are required. Eligibility for the military rate is also outlined.

Per diem rates also vary among hotels. For example, a quick search of Hilton properties available in mid-March in Washington, D.C. , yielded government and military rates starting at $258 per night.

travel agent discount code for marriott

Expect to present your federal government ID to get the government rate, and also know that some hotels require you to be traveling on business to reserve the government rate.

Government and military rates can be a great way to save on hotels, but you need to fully understand the terms before making your reservation. You don't want to be in a place where you cannot provide proper documentation when checking in to a hotel; this could void your reservation or could result in you paying the walk-up rate for your room.

Military rates are also available on most cruise lines, and you can use your military status for discounts at theme parks.

Check for resident rates

If you are taking a staycation, check for resident rates in your city or state.

For example, The Laylow, Autograph Collection in Honolulu offers a discounted rate to those with a valid Hawaiian ID, up to approximately 25% off the standard rate. This also includes a $20 valet parking discount.

travel agent discount code for marriott

Corporate rates

Your employer — especially if it's a Fortune 500 company — might offer travel discounts for its employees. This includes bookings with hotels, rental car companies and airlines.

Check your company's travel portal or benefits page for more information.

University rates

Many universities also offer discounts to students , alumni and their families, so consider reviewing your university's travel page to see if there are any discounts you can leverage.

For example, DePaul University offers preferred rates at a handful of Chicago hotels, like the Hyatt Place Chicago/Wicker Park. DePaul alumni, faculty, parents, retirees, staff members and students get up to 20% off the standard rate.

travel agent discount code for marriott

Only use corporate and education discount codes if you're eligible for them. Otherwise, as with government rates, you could be on the hook for a much larger travel bill if you can't produce proof of eligibility.

Bottom line

There are many ways to save on your trip using published discount policies. It's always worth the extra few moments to check other rate options when booking a hotel and renting a car. Depending on your employer, your school or the associations you belong to, you could save a fair amount on your next hotel stay.

Just be sure to follow the rules of these travel discounts, as the consequences of rate fraud can be severe.

Imagine Your Dream Vacation

Hotel excellence faqs.

Update Feb. 2024: All Preferred Travel Agencies (PTAs) must take action by March 31, 2024 to maintain Preferred Travel Agency status. View your Hotel Excellence! dashboard to check your status. Agencies whose Hotel Excellence! dashboard indicates that they are Standard continue to have the ability to complete the requirements to become a Preferred Travel Agency location and enjoy the associated benefits. Marriott Bonvoy® membership is now a requirement to access the Hotel Excellence! training and receive all associated Hotel Excellence! benefits. Enter your Marriott Bonvoy Member Number in the Marriott Bonvoy Membership section at the top of your MI Partner Privileges profile.

Preferred Travel Agency Program (PTA) & Recertification

What is the preferred travel agency program.

Marriott’s Preferred Travel Agency (PTA) program allows ARC/IATA/IATAN/TIDS/CLIA accredited travel agencies to earn a preferred commission (currently 10%) for all transient commissionable bookings made across Marriott’s portfolio of brands worldwide. The PTA program has two criteria: (1) An agency owner or manager must electronically agree to the PTA commitment, and (2) the agency must have at least one qualified travel advisor, who has entered their Marriott Bonvoy® Member Number into their MI Partner Privileges profile and confirmed the accuracy of the other profile information, for each agency location. Marriott Bonvoy membership is a requirement to access the Hotel Excellence! training and receiving all Hotel Excellence! benefits.

Agencies not fulfilling all the criteria will be a Standard Travel Agency with Marriott and receive  8% commission on all transient commissionable bookings.

Design Hotels, Homes & Villas by Marriott International, All-Inclusive by Marriott Bonvoy®, The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, and MGM Collection do not participate in the program.

What do I need to do to maintain my PTA status?

Annually, an agency owner/manager must: 1) agree to the terms of being a Preferred Travel Agency and update their personal profile; and 2) have at least one qualified graduate of Marriott’s Hotel Excellence! training program that includes the “Core” training and the annual Continuing Education training for the certification cycle. Agencies that have not met both criteria by the end of the certification cycle will revert to Standard Travel Agency status. Travel agency owners/managers can view their Preferred Travel Agency status on their Dashboard at https://hotelexcellence.marriott.com . Fulfillment of these requirements must be met for each agency ARC/IATA/IATAN/TIDS/CLIA number. Please note, by registering or updating your profile, you agree that we may provide your agency owner with your Hotel Excellence! graduation status as it relates to your agency maintaining their Preferred Travel Agency status and benefits.

What is the duration of my PTA status?

PTA status is valid for the current certification cycle, typically one year. Agencies must act by the current recertification deadline to maintain their status for the next cycle. Recertification requirements are communicated to the email provided by the agency owner/manager in sufficient time for the criteria to be met by the recertification deadline. However, each agency owner/manager should log in to their Hotel Excellence! account to review their PTA status and ensure all requirements have been met.

What is my agency committing to when we agree to the PTA Terms?

The Preferred Travel Agency Terms can be found by clicking on the “PTA Commitment” badge on the agency owner/manager’s dashboard at hotelexcellence.marriott.com . This badge will only appear if you answer “yes” to the question on your profile, “Are you the Owner, Manager, or Senior Executive of this Company / Agency?”

What happens if my agency does not fulfill the criteria by the recertification deadline?

If an agency does not fulfill the PTA criteria by the end of the recertification deadline, they will default to Standard Travel Agency status and receive an 8% commission on all transient commissionable reservations until such time as the requirements have been fulfilled.

Will my agency be allowed to fulfill the requirements after the recertification deadline?

If the recertification deadline is missed, agencies can recertify at any time. However, any lapse in PTA criteria will change an agency’s status to Standard Travel Agency with an 8% commission. Once the PTA criteria has been met, Marriott will elevate the agency to Preferred Travel Agency status and 10% commission will apply for stays departing from that point forward on all transient commissionable reservations, provided these requirements are maintained.

Will I receive reminders about the annual recertification requirements?

Marriott will send three email reminders  to the email address on file as the PTA Commitment signer for the Preferred Travel Agency owner/manager before the recertification deadline. It is the responsibility of the owner/manager to have a valid email address in their profile and to log in to their Hotel Excellence! account before the recertification deadline to ensure all requirements have been met.

How can I ensure that Marriott has my agency's email address so that we receive notifications?

Agency owners/managers should create a MI Partner Privileges profile with their email address, and attest that they are the owner/manager or other senior executive affiliated with the agency location so they can agree to the Preferred Travel Agency terms.  A verification email will be sent requesting confirmation of receipt.  Once verified, the email address will be used to communicate important information about that agency location's PTA status; therefore, it is recommended the email be updated as needed.

I have multiple ARC/IATA/IATAN/TIDS/CLIA locations within my organization. May I commit to the PTA terms collectively for them?

Each ARC/IATA/IATAN/TIDS/CLIA number must register at https://hotelexcellence.marriott.com and agree to the PTA terms individually.

How can I see which ARC/IATA/IATAN/TIDS/CLIA locations in my organization have HE! graduates, and how can I track when my consultants recertify?

Each agency owner/manager should create an account at https://hotelexcellence.marriott.com to access their Agency Dashboard. The Dashboard will clearly indicate the following for each ARC/IATA/IATAN/TIDS/CLIA location: a) If a qualified graduate of the training is needed; b) whether the PTA terms have been agreed to; c) whether the agency is “Preferred” or “Standard”.

Will my preferred commission levels apply to the group business I place with Marriott?

No. The Preferred Travel Agency program applies only to commissionable transient bookings. Group commissions will be paid in accordance with the signed Group Sales Agreement.

Where can I obtain information about Marriott’s commission policies and procedures?

View Marriott’s Commission Policy and Commission FAQs to link to frequently asked questions regarding commissions .

Hotel Excellence! (HE!) Training & Required Recertification

What is the hotel excellence program.

Hotel Excellence! is an online training program, specifically designed for professional travel professionals, to help them navigate the ever-changing hotel industry and to help their clients choose hotels that best suit their needs and style. The training is accessible on a multi-device platform to allow maximum flexibility and convenience. In addition to the “Core” training, annual Continuing Education recertification training will be developed and required for eligibility for Fam-Tastic benefits. There are also supplemental modules available that are optional and allow travel professionals the opportunity to customize their learning to best fit their needs.

How will HE! training benefit me as a travel professional?

In addition to the robust knowledge provided within HE!, qualified graduates gain exclusive access to Marriott’s industry-leading Fam-Tastic familiarization rate program, offering discounted rates at the majority of Marriott properties. (See the Fam-Tastic topic for more details on this exclusive program.) Graduates also receive Continuing Educations Units: 10 CEUs towards the maintenance of the Travel Institute’s CTA/CTC certification, or 8 CEUs for Association of Canadian Travel Agencies certification or 10 CLIA credits for CLIA agents.

How will completion of the HE! training program benefit my agency?

The training will familiarize agents with Marriott’s robust portfolio of brands and what makes each brand unique. It will also help travel consultants work more efficiently, close more sales, and benefit your agency’s bottom line. This is important as the travel and tourism landscape changes, customers book travel in new ways, and new waves of travelers are emerging. More than ever before, travel agencies must demonstrate their value and expertise, and the HE! training is a smart investment for your agency. The HE! training is available at no cost, and agencies who employ travel professionals that are qualified advisors who have successfully completed the training are eligible to become a Marriott Preferred Travel Agency.

How do I access the training?

Hotel Excellence! training is accessible at  hotelexcellence.marriott.com  after completing your MI Partner Privileges account with your Marriott Bonvoy® Member Number. All Core, Continuing Education and optional training modules can be found via the Hotel Excellence! dashboard. To satisfy the requirements for the Core training, complete one module from the Introduction section, two modules from the Brands Training section and three modules from the Foundational Training section. There are also optional modules in the Supplemental Modules section to help travel professionals strengthen their industry knowledge.

Can I complete the training on my mobile device or tablet?

Is there an app I need to download?

Devices: Android 8.0+ (Oreo), iPads® (Except The iPad® Mini) And iPhones® (version iOS 13+)

On average, users take just under two hours to complete the Core HE! training and 30 minutes to complete the annual Continuing Education training.

Why has the sign in process to Marriott's Hotel Excellence! website and Fam-Tastic booking changed?

Privacy and security are a top priority for Marriott, and we know how important it is to protect your data. We've changed the sign-in process to be more secure, ensuring the highest standards of security, while streamlining your experience across all of our Intermediary Partner Program websites.

How does Marriott use my information after I have registered for the training?

Marriott will use your email address to send you important updates about your Hotel Excellence! recertification status. Your email address will also be used to send you Reserved for You, the exclusive e-Newsletter for graduates of Hotel Excellence!, should you opt in. From time to time, and only upon request by your agency, Marriott may identify you to your agency as a graduate of Hotel Excellence! to confirm your agency is meeting the requirements as a Preferred Travel Agency (PTA) and receiving the PTA status and benefits.  View our Terms of Use and Privacy Center for additional information.

The Marriott Explore Rate – Everything you need to know! 4

How to Book a Marriott Employee Discount with the Explore Rate!

Who is eligible to use the marriott explore rate, 1. marriott employee codes (“mm4” and “mmp”), 2. marriott friends code (“mmf”), 3. marriott quarter century club (“qcc”), how to book with a marriott employee code, how to book with a marriott friends and family code, how to book with a qcc rate code, marriott explore rate authorization form, how much can you save with a marriott employee rates, employee food & beverage discount, faq’s about the marriott explore program:, more content for marriott bonvoy fans.

One of the many perks of being a Marriott employee is the opportunity to save up to 75% on your hotel stays with Marriott’s employee discount program, called the “Marriott Explore Rate”.

With Marriott, the discounts not only apply to you, as an employee, but they also extend to your friends and family members too! If you’re one of the 200,000+ current Marriott employees, (or even if you just know one) you can get in on the savings right now.

Some of the terms can be a little confusing, so we created this detailed guide to dig into all of the rules, features, and benefits of the Marriott Explore Program.

We include how to book, eligibility requirements, and restrictions with the friends and family rates. We will also cover the additional discounts you can receive, like food and beverage, which can make your stay at a Marriott property an even better deal!

The Marriott Explore Program

All of the major hotel chains offer some level of discount or free travel to employees and their family members. These rates are intended to encourage employees to experience the brand’s hotels and resorts, as well as to provide an opportunity for their loved ones to enjoy a discounted stay or vacation as well.

Hyatt has the best employee discount program of all the major hotel chains because they give you 12 completely free nights at any Hyatt property in the world, every year.

Marriott’s program is similar to the “Go Hilton” Team Member Rate and the IHG Employee Rate because employees are provided with a deeply discounted nightly rate.  It’s a great program, with a couple of different variations, depending on your relationship with the Marriott employee.

Marriott “Associates” and “Immediate Family Members” are eligible to use the Marriott employee code (MMP).

Marriott Associates are defined as:

  • Full-Time and Part-Time employees
  • Employees of Design Hotels are not eligible for the “explore” program. Also, if you work for a Vendor of Marriott, you are not eligible for the explore rate.

Immediate Family Members are defined as:

  • Parents or Parents-in-law
  • Spouse or Domestic Partner
  • Cousins, Brothers in-Laws, Sisters in-Law, Uncles, and Aunts are not considered immediate family. They are considered “extended family” and can use the Explore Friends Rate .

Marriott Employee Discount Codes

There are four discount codes available under the “Marriott Explore” program.  These low rates are available to employees, friends, and family members when using the proper rate code.

  • “MM4” – The Marriott Employee code is “MM4”. It is for employees only and is called the “Explore More” rate. This rate provides the largest discount but it is rarely available.
  • “MMP” – The Marriott Friends and Family code is “MMP”. It is for employees and immediate family members and is called the “Explore Rate”. This is the most widely available discounted rate for employees and the best Marriott family discount.
  • “MMF” – The Marriott Explore Friends code is “MMF”. It is for friends and distant family members and is called the “Explore Friends Rate”.
  • “QCC” – The Quarter Century Club code is “QCC” which is for 25+ year employees of Marriott.

using the Marriott Friends and Family Rate Code MMP

The Explore Rate is for Marriott associates and their family members.   Luckily, the definition of what Marriott considers a family member is fairly broad and includes spouses, domestic partners, parents, parents-in-law, brothers, sisters, and children of Marriott associates/employees.

Employee & Marriott Family Discount Codes

The are two different Explore discount codes to use when booking an employee rate, “MM4” rate and the “MMP” rate. When you use the MM4 rate code will only display the employee discount rates. When you book with the MMP rate code, the results are available to employees and immediate family members (i.e. Marriott friends and family).

At check-in, eligible guests must present a photo ID and the Explore Authorization Form.

When using the Explore rate there is a voluntary $3/night donation to the TakeCare Relief Fund added at participating properties. TCRF is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) entity primarily supporting managed associates affected by emergencies.

MM4 and MMP Rate Restrictions

It’s important to note that there are some limitations on using these codes. When using an Explore Rate, an employee can book a maximum of 2 rooms per night, and an immediate family member can book a maximum of 1 room per night with the discounted rate.  The total rooms per night tied to the employee cannot exceed 2 rooms at the same time.

For example: If an employee has 2 rooms at a Marriott property, their parent (or brother, sister, etc..) cannot book an additional room at that same hotel on the same date. However, if the employee has just 1 room, then the parent (or another immediate family member) can book 1 room at the same hotel on the same date.

The discount can be up to 75% off the normal rates, so they have to put a cap on its usage to ensure it is not abused.

If you’re not a member of a Marriott employee’s immediate family, you can still get the benefit of a reduced rate with the Marriott Explore Friends discount code.  This rate isn’t as good as the employee rate, but it still can offer some nice savings for friends and distant family members.

The Code for the Marriott Explore Friends Rate to use when booking is “MMF”.

If you want to be eligible to use this code, all you need to do is ask your family member or friend (“the employee”) to get an authorization form for you to complete.  They can get this from either Marriott Human Resources or download it directly from the Marriott Global Source intranet site .

This form is a requirement to receive the Marriott friends and family or the Marriott Explore friends discount and must be presented at time of check-in with your photo ID.

MMF Rate Restrictions

The terms of the Marriott Explore friends rate are:

  • The rate is available to friends of Marriott associates only for personal travel only .
  • There is no limit on the number of rooms per night or nights per stay.
  • This rate is eligible to earn Marriott Bonvoy points .
  • Authorization Forms are available through Human Resources or Marriott Global Source .

The Quarter Century Club (“QCC”) is Marriott’s program for employees (and former Marriott employees) who have worked at Marriott corporate or a hotel property for 25 or more years. These long-time employees are rewarded with complimentary rooms at participating Marriott locations.  Plus, they will continue to have access to the employee discount, “Explore Rates” for paid stays.

This program applies to approximately 2,000 Marriott hotel and resort properties but excludes their most exclusive properties, including:

  • Design Hotels,
  • Luxury Collection,
  • Ritz-Carlton and
  • St. Regis Hotels & Resorts.

QCC Rate Restrictions

  • QCC members are allowed one complimentary stay per property per year, subject to availability.
  • QCC members may stay up to three nights at the same property during the same stay.
  • Members may book one room at the QCC complimentary rate, and if desired, one additional room at the Explore Rate or Explore Friends Rate.

How to Book Marriott Employee Rates

The booking process is very easy.  You’ll just need to use the code when booking the employee or family and friends rate direct on Marriott’s website .

Marriott Explore Rate

Marriott Employees can save up to 75% with the Explore Rate.

Friends & Family can save up to 50% with the Explore Friends Rate.

Here’s a quick example to show you how to book the rate and what level of discount you can expect, based on a sample search I did for a Marriott weekend stay in Chicago.

  • Go to Marriott’s booking site .
  • Click on the “Find & Reserve” tab on the upper left portion of the page.
  • Enter the location you are traveling to and the travel dates.
  • Click on the Special Rates Drop Down.
  • Click the “Corporate/Promo Code” button and enter “MMP” in the text field.
  • Enter the destination and dates you want to travel then hit “Find Hotels”.

A list of available hotels will display, but you won’t know if the rate is offered until you click on each individual hotel to see the available rates.

where to enter the marriott employee discount code

The process for booking a Marriott friends and family rate is the same as booking a employee discounted rate. The only difference is that you will enter “MMF” in the Promo Code field, instead of “MMP”.

Booking a QCC rate takes an extra step. Here is what you need to do:

  • QCC members should first book the Explore Rate as stated earlier at  marriott.com (use the Marriott Bonvoy App)
  • Then call or email the QCC Customer Engagement Center to determine if the Explore Rate can be changed to the QCC complimentary rate.
  • To check complimentary rate availability, call (800) 826-1882 in the U.S. or call (402) 390-1600 ext. 2281578 outside of the U.S., or email:  [email protected] .

As mentioned earlier, you will need to present a completed Explore Rate Authorization Form at the time of check-in. To get an authorization form, you have to be a Marriott employee (and download from the corporate intranet site) or have Marriott HR provide you with the form.

Here are the steps:

  • Go to the Marriott Extranet site
  • Enter your EID and password.

Yes. Marriott hotel employees get a 30% discount on retail purchases and purchases made on ShopMarriott.com , which includes luxury items like the Westin Heavenly Bed , a Ritz Carlton Mattress , or St. Regis Pillow .

There are three main codes: MM4 is for employee rates only, MMF is for Marriott friends and family rates only, and MMP will show both results.
