Thrice (formed in 1998) is an American post-hardcore rock band, known for their crunchy distorted guitars, complex time signatures and soaring lead guitar solos, hailing from Irvine, California, U.S.

Prior to forming Thrice vocalist/guitarist Dustin Kensrue and guitarist Teppei Teranishi had played in the rock group Chapter 11 together. Alongside bassist Eddie Breckridge and drummer Riley Breckridge, who knew Dustin and Teppei from school and the local skate park, began practicing together and played their first gig in 1998. The name Thrice was initially considered to be a temporary moniker however the group soon developed a following in the local area and became associated with the name. In 1999 Thrice released their debut EP entitled “First Impressions”, which was limited to 1,000 copies, followed by the full-length “Identity Crisis” in April 2000. Released on Greenfly Records, the album earned the group a significant national buzz, and a percentage of the album’s proceeds were donated to a local children’s charity.

Thrice subsequently signed with Hopeless/Sub City’s who reissued the band’s debut “Identity Crisis” and sent Thrice on tour alongside Samiam. In 2002 the band’s sophomore “The Illusion of Safety” was released to favourable reviews and the group embarked on an extensive national tour in support of Further Seems Forever and Face to Face. Once again a portion of the album’s proceeds were donated to charity, with the label matching whatever the band raised. Due to the success of the album and tour, Thrice caught to attention of major label Island Records, who signed the band and agreed to match any charitable donations.

The band’s major-label debut “The Artist in the Ambulance” arrived in 2003 and charted at No. 16 on the Billboard 200. Led by the tracks “All That’s Left” and “Stare At The Sun” the album found favour across the musical press and Thrice subsequently began playing larger venues, including dates with Thursday and Cohered and Cambria. The full-length “Vheissu” was issued in October 2005 with proceeds going to the Dave Eggers’ charity 826 Valencia and in turn the cover art was designed by Eggers. The album features a much richer and textured instrumentation than its predecessors and was once again supported by an extensive touring schedule including headlining the 2006 Taste of Chaos tour. The EP “Red Sky” followed in early 2006 and the elaborate four-disc concept album “The Alchemy Index” in 2007. The live albums “The MySpace Transmissions” and “Live at the House of Blues” appeared in 2009, succeeded by the studio album “Beggars” in 2009 and “Major/Minor” in 2011.

Live reviews

Thrice was great, I arrived on time pretty much but I had to wait in line for about 15-20 minutes because I had will call tickets which made miss most of Gates (the opening band) set but after that the line to get into the venue was pretty quick once inside I looked around the design of the venue, PlayStation Theater this is probably the third redesign of this venue when I first starting coming there it was called Nokia Theater then Best Buy Theater and now PlayStation Theater, this current incarnation of the venue is probably my favorite I enjoyed playing some the PS4 demos available mainly the game "Rocket League". After playing a game of Rocket League I went to look for a seat upper balcony seating which is something I've always appreciated about this venue the only other venue with similar seating is Gramercy Theatre but theirs aren't as comfortable. But it's nice to have somewhere to sit unlike many GA venues where you just have stand much of your duration there unless you find somewhere to sit that isn't the floor or blocked off by VIP Section, so that's always nice about this venue. I then sat down to see La Dispute which is a band I haven't seen in years and been meaning to because they left a great first impression when I first saw them opening up for Alexisonfire some years back and seeing them again was great, they seemed more mature and on point with their sound. I sat through their performance in the balcony with good seating with direct line to the stage, but also saw them on the Sony Ultra HD (assuming maybe even 4k monitor screens) hanging above the GA pit which gave a good up close view of the stage and band from different angles that you probably couldn't even get if you where front row, so that was a nice bonus. Once they finished I waited sitting down for maybe ten minute before getting to make way to the GA pit area but before that I made sure to stop the bathroom to relieve myself knowing I'll be standing for an 1 hour plus soon and got drink of water from the fountain nearby, which is another nice touch in this venue because so many places just force to pay for the overpriced water, so it was nice to be able to drink water and the pay some exuberant amount for it. After that I made my way to GA pit area which already getting pretty crowded being a sold out show and all. Thrice started playing few minutes before 9:30, they started with song "Hurricane" from their new album (To Be Everywhere Is To Be Nowhere) and then played "Silhouette" from their second album (The Illusion of Safety) which set a good tone for the rest their setlist and night. The song selection fluctuated between songs from the new album (which I liked) and songs from from their previous 3 albums. My only nitpick would be that they didn't play more early material, particularly songs off "The Artist In The Ambulance" which they played two songs of that album. But all and all it was probably the best setlist they could've gone with to compliant the songs off the new album, so I can't really fault them for it. I will definitely love to see them again and hopefully they'll have a more diverse setlist next time around.

Thrice was one of the staples of my early to late twenties who I loved listening to between other bands like AFI and Coheed and Cambria. They bring that good hard modern American rock sound to the table that the punk and alternative bands of the time always skirted around but couldn't quite seem to grasp.

I love listening to their music to have someone else express the anger that I feel inside. It brings me to a sense of elation. Their music is matter of taste to most I'm sure, but I believe if anyone takes the time to listen to the lyrics and the intent of the music itself, they may actually appreciate it, even if they don't adore it.

At the House of Blues a couple of years back I had the chance to see Thrice play in a set with a couple other bands of that same genre. The House of Blues has a nice, intimate setting where all seats are good seats, and just some are a little better. I wasn't right at the front but I could see everything, and the energy Thrice brought was both intense and moving. They could bring the audience to their feet screaming, and put them back to sitting and silent. It was an event to behold.

This is review is actually for the entire show. Drug Church opened up with a bang! Amazing sound mastering and an incredible stage presence gave this show an honest start and really let the crowd know what they were in for for the rest of the show. mewithoutYou (the band I was there to see) followed up with a set that had the building lose their minds. I was in the rail and felt a little uncomfortable with the amount of pushing that was going on, but on looking back I didn’t just see a pit, I saw people en masse singing and dancing with this uniform glow that signified we were all there to see our favorite band who is retiring at the end of this year. It was a beautiful experience. I don’t know enough of Thrice to give an opinion on their song choices or fan reaction to the songs sang. I can say that the sound was insanely close to what I have heard them sound like on streaming services. I am very happy I went to this show and I truly hope I get the opportunity to see mewithoutYou while they tour Brothers, Sisters and there official farewell tour.

Californian rockers Thrice deceptively have four members who all work together to make a traditional sounding rock that goes over particularly well with their loyal fanbase. They have recorded and released eight studio albums in a relatively short amount of time so they have extra work to carefully hand select music for the setlist. From the reaction of the fans they have made wise choices to include a rambunctious version of early single 'Stare At The Sun' as they jump as one with arms raised high.

Tonight they showcase the best material from latest albums 'Beggars' and 'Major/Minor' which goes down well with the audience, something of a cult following in the UK. The band's sheer dedication to the global fans pays off during an encore of early tracks 'Phoenix' and 'The Earth Will Shake' as the audience sing back in force. The group exits the stage feeling very secure in the knowledge that although they may not have sold countless albums in the UK, they have a solid and dedicated following.

I've been a huge fan of Thrice since hearing Illusion Of Safety in 2002. Else than festivals, I've attended every one of their shows in NYC/NJ, and this show was special for a few reasons. Firstly, obviously, it's their first tour since their hiatus, and man are they back to continue kicking serious ass! The crowd was great, no drunk idiots, positive energy, a great security crew, all awesome stuff. It was also special because they played a very unique set list; more songs from Vheissu than TBEITBN, which I enjoyed. I hoped for more from the new album, they played four songs from it, but the set list was awesome. Everyone sounded great, the only sound issue was the always-present high pitch reverb due to the design/building materials of the venue. Riley's drums compensated for that for sure though! So fucking excited to one of my two favorite bands [number one being Tool] back in action and better than ever! Thrice will always exceed expectations, record and show alike.

Saw Thrice + La Dispute last night at the PlayStation Theatre in NYC and had a blast - I wish La Dispute were allowed a longer set, but they did the best with what they had. Thrice, as the headliner, definitely had more pull with the crowd - people comically calling for "Deadbolt" to which they never played.

Just like the time before when I last saw Thrice, everyone in the crowd was suuuper into them, knew damn-near every word to the whole set, and were very very passionate about singing along and pushing around through the night.

Thrice's light show was really cool, with backlighting making them look like the ultimate rockstar silhouettes for most of their set, too!

Thrice put on a great show! A good amount of great songs from the new album "TBEITBN" were played. As always the moshpit was entertaining especially with older songs from albums like "Vheissu" and "Artist in the Ambulance". Dustin's voice was extremely sore and bothering him for the whole night due to excessive touring which is why the set was cut a bit short. The band was even going to cut out the encore that was scheduled to be 3 songs according to previous setlists, but Thrice loves their fans so they came out to play DEADBOLT!!! The fans were extremely appreciative of the great last show of 2016 for Thrice.

Thrice were superb, knocked out all the favorites in their own understated way. Refused seemed to take longer to warm up but once they were going they were at their crazy crowd surfing best.

It’s a shame the venue was changed as it appeared that the empire was dangerously over-filled. When the two main bands were on you could not move, it was almost impossible to climb the stairs to the toilets and main bar and security seemed to be doing little about it when Refused were playing.

sohocub’s profile image

The sound of venue was amazing, pretty decent, you could hear all the instruments very clear.

The illumination was awesome too.

The setlist was the same on the three shows at Brazil (as far as I know).

As this was the first time of the band in Brazil (and I hope they come back [I know, it's been a joke: come to Brazil] haha), it was epic.

I would change one or two songs but it was intense from start to finish, the crowd singing along almost every song from start to finish.

The show was AMAZING!

Got there quarter 'till they headlined, at 9:45 and since it was a sold out show, had to stand all the way in the back but two of my buds and myself, squiggled our way to the front!

We were 4 bodies from the stage and all hell broke loose with their classic songs and the people went crazy!!

Super sore this mornings a somebody stepped on my left ankle so no running for me until 2 weeks but I lobed the show and will becoming go see them in October!

Thrice in Concert

Thrice has been a staple in the alternative/modern-rock world for over fifteen years. A band known for effortlessly and continuously releasing groundbreaking records, their discography has sold over a million copies, and they've toured the world with acts like The Deftones, Coheed & Cambria, Rise Against, Circa Survive and Brand New.

Thrice released their first proper full-length, Identity Crisis, in 2001 and quickly stormed to the forefront of the indie music scene as listeners rejoiced and formed what can only be described as a cult following. The band went on to release seven highly praised albums – fan favorites The Illusion Of Safety (2002), The Artist In The Ambulance (2003) and Vheissu (2005), the brilliant and eclectic four-part concept album The Alchemy Index: Fire and Water (2007) and Earth and Air (2008), the visceral and raw masterpiece, Beggars (2009), and a grunge-inspired follow-up album, Major/Minor (2011). After a three-year break from writing and touring, the Orange County quartet are back in the studio recording their next full-length which is expected to be released in 2016 with tour dates in support.

WONT YOU LOOK AT YOUR WINGSSSS THEIR COMING UNDONE AND TEARING AT THE SEAMS STEER CLEAR OF THE SUN FOR ONCE WONT YOU LISTEN TO MEEEE. what is there not to love abt these guys such amazing composers and they been making great music since the start hope they come back through sometime

Excellent venue for an excellent show.

Being able to meet the band was amazing!! The event was full of good times and good music with good people. I would definitely come back to this venue for another show. Had a blast!!

Great place for a show, they have variety of beer, staff were great. Everything was smooth. No issue with parking.

Great Band, Great Show

Seeing Thrice is always awesome. Good to see them have a massive crowd at the Fillmore

Great bands, great venue

68' and Thrice put on a great show. We've never been to the Rialto and we'll definitely be going back for other events.

It was an amazing experience!!!! Highly recommend tannehill for shows

AMAZING show!

Thank you for not cancelling the show. Dustin you are amazing and your voice was still as badass as always! I love you guys

Arena show in a small venue

Surprisingly great opening band - high energy, great stage presence - reminded me of early Nirvana mixed with Helmet and Black Crowes. Thrice was polished and tight, despite the singer having a sore throat. Great light show to go with the music. Kept the crowd engaged and singing back. The bass player has a monster presence.

Although the show ran a little short due to Dustin being sick, they still put on a great show. Hope to see Thrice again soon. Get well soon, Dustin!

Released in 2003, The Artist in the Ambulance featured several iconic hits, such as “All That’s Left,” “ Under a Killing Moon,” and “Stare at the Sun.” Although the band was classified as emo or post-hardcore, the music was ahead of its time, deriving influences from thrash and math-metal.

In the U.K., the album reached number 9 on the Rock and Metal Albums chart. Meanwhile, “All That’s Left” and “Stare at the Sun” peaked at numbers 24 and 30 on the Alternative Airplay chart. The album was well received by fans and critics, with some writers calling it “their best effort to date” and complimenting the band for “ticking all the right boxes of energy and noise.” Furthermore, the album has been featured in several “best of” lists, including NME’s "20 Emo Albums that Have Resolutely Stood the Test of Time" and Rock Sound’s “Modern Classics.”

Awesome show

Le show était excellent, le son était vraiment bon. Il y avait beaucoup de monde, on était un peu coincé. Les gars on donné une performance à la hauteur de mes attentes et ils ont fais un excellent choix de set list.

First time seeing them. Didnt disappoint. The boys from OC can still skate too! Rapids theater was a cool venue good sound.

It was a magical night! Being first row right on the gate is really a different experience than being far behind, it’s really immersive! The crowd was insane! Haha Thrice gave an awesome performance, as always!

Amazing show but not generous to the fans

We’ve been waiting over 5 years to see Thrice play again. It was tremendous to have the opportunity to sing along with them. The only hiccup; they played 1 hour and no rappel. So unfortunate and so not generous towards their fans who had been waiting impatiently !

Amazing Concert

Being Thrice's farewell tour we knew we had to make it, and the band did not disappoint. I've been a long-time fan but have never been close enough to make it to a show, being from the the East Coast. We sucked it up and drove the 12 hours to Montreal - and it was totally worth it.

Farewell To Thrice... For Now!

This was my third time seeing Thrice live and they have never disappointed. The set list was perfect, couldn't have asked for more. Closing out with Anthology was a fitting end, although one day I will attend a Reunion Tour concert I'm sure. It was great to see the show from the front row but the kids in the mosh pit were annoying as usual, as were the crowd surfers. Way to ruin it for everyone else! Also, when did it become cool to be 40 years old and 50lbs overweight and then crowd surf, kicking and flailing on people half your age? Thrice can't do much about the fans that attend, couldn't have asked for a better performance from them!

One of the best concerts of 2012 for sure!

Great opening band (O'Brother), was unreal. During Thrice's set, I was blown away by how tight and how good of a vocalist Dustin is. They played a bit of everything, from their early stuff to their new stuff. It was great. Good crowd, and a big mosh pit (for those of you who enjoy them). My least favourite part of the show was that the sound was WAY too loud, and that the Koolhaus is ALWAYS overbearingly hot. AC and/or fans would be a good choice.

Thrice = stellar

Amazing career spanning set. Musicianship was tight, sound was great. Thrice is the most underrated band of the last decade. Great show.

Missed O'Brother and Moving Mountains for unimportant reasons (sad we did though because they are both decent bands). The third band, La Dispute or something did not do it for me ... was pretty bored throughout their set but other people seemed to like them. Thrice put on yet another great show! Sad they didn't play Artist and the Ambulance but you can't get everything.

Thrice always upstages themselves...

What an unbelievable show. awesome crowd. awesome energy from the band as usual. Never leave anything behind... already waiting for their next tour. ha ha

The Eras Tour just got even better!

On Monday, May 27, Taylor Swift announced on her Instagram Stories that she would be adding three opening acts to her Wembley Stadium Eras Tour shows in London — Mette on Friday, June 21, Griff on Saturday, June 22 and Benson Boone on Sunday, June 23.

"I just found out Fortnight is #1 on the UK airplay chart!!!!" the "Cruel Summer" artist, 34, said alongside an Eras Tour poster. "Thought this might be a fun time to announce the first group of opening acts I'll be adding to the London shows, going on before Paramore . I chose artists whose music I love listening to, and I can't wait for them to add an extra jolt of excitement to our shows."

Her new opening acts all replied to the news with excitement on social media.

"It’s a new ERA for ya girl… Opening the “Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour” on June 21st at Wembley Stadium in London. Thank you @taylorswift13 - Never been so excited in my entire life!!! #TSTheErasTour ," wrote the "DARLING DRIVE" artist, 32, on social media alongside the tour poster.

The "Vertigo" performer, 23, shared a photo of the tour poster and a shot of her and Swift eating French fries together at the 2021 BRITs on social media : "TAYLOR SWIFT HAS INVITED ME ON THE ERAS TOUR!!!!!! 8 yr old me who had fearless on repeat wouldn’t believe this. So unbelievably grateful to Taylor for all the love she’s shown me and my music. See you at Wembley on June 22nd. Ly 📷 📷 📷 #TSTheErasTour ."

Swift previously gave Griff a shout-out in September 2023 on her Instagram Story, writing “Damn Griff I love this one,” as she shared her single "Vertigo."

“Her popping up the other week and posting ‘Vertigo’ is the most crazy thing because it's like — she never posts and she really doesn't have to do that. So it's really kind of her to be so generous with promoting that,” she told PEOPLE. “It's really cool.”

After she saw the post, Griff thought “What the f---?” and then, “How do I even thank her?”

The "Miss Me Too" singer said that while they don't "have a constant point of contact," Swift has become "this fairy godmother that pops up and makes things amazing for me."

American Idol star announced as Taylor Swift's next opening act in Eras Tour update

American Idol star Benson Boone is heading for the big leagues as he's set to play for thousands of fans as the opening act for Taylor Swift's Eras tour.

The season 19 contestant will be performing for just one concert, when the 34-year-old pop star stops in London, England.

The Lover hitmaker will be heading to the UK in June and August, with Benson announced as her opener on June 23 alongside Paramore.

  • Billie Eilish shades Taylor Swift's 'psychotic' three hour concerts amid apparent 'feud'
  • Taylor Swift has over 250 pairs of Louboutin shoes for the Eras Tour and they're $1K each

Benson's music career got a major jumpstart earlier this year when his track Beautiful Things went viral on TikTok and he quickly became a household name across the globe.

However, this isn't the first time audiences have come face-to-face with the singer, although he looked vastly different when he auditioned for American Idol three years ago.

Benson sang for music legends Katy Perry , Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan in 2021 and earned a golden ticket to Hollywood with a rendition of Punchline by Aidan Martin.

The songwriter, who was just 19 when he appeared on the ABC show, made it to the top 24 before voluntarily withdrawing from the competition just before the public voting rounds began.

Benson left the show to further pursue his music career in his own right, a risky move that has seemingly paid off as he'll be sharing the stage with the world's biggest pop star this month.

His debut solo album, Fireworks and Rollerblades, features his Billboard Hot 100 track Beautiful Things, which reached number two on the chart earlier this year.

He's also received millions of streams on his previous two EPs and earned the title of Breakthrough Artist on Amazon Music, and MTV's Global PUSH Artist for October 2023.

His appearance at the Wembley Stadium in London will be the third of eight shows Taylor's playing at the iconic venue.

While the Cruel Summer hitmaker has a notoriously grueling touring schedule but Benson's opening appearance also falls in the middle of his own sold-out tour, Fireworks and Rollerblades.

Taylor is currently in the midst of the European leg of her record-breaking Eras Tour, with a final concert in Madrid, Spain on Thursday before heading for France and then to the UK.

Taylor Swift's 3 new Eras Tour openers have connections to Rihanna, Ed Sheeran, and Imagine Dragons. Here's everything to know about the rising stars.

  • Taylor Swift has recruited three rising stars to perform during The Eras Tour in London.
  • Mette, Griff, and Benson Boone will join Paramore as tour openers at Wembley Stadium.
  • Keep reading for key songs you should know and details about each artist's career.

Insider Today

Taylor Swift's Eras Tour cast is expanding.

Swift, who's currently in the midst of the tour's European leg , has already welcomed an array of artists to share her stage, including Phoebe Bridgers , Sabrina Carpenter, MUNA, Gayle , Gracie Abrams, and more. But on Monday, Swift announced that she'd recruited three more rising stars.

Mette, Griff, and Benson Boone will join Paramore as openers for Swift's set of London shows: Mette will perform on Friday, June 21; Griff on Saturday, June 22; and Boone on Sunday, June 23. (Swift will return to Wembley Stadium for five additional dates in August, but those openers have not yet been announced.)

"Thought this might be a fun time to announce the first group of opening acts I'll be adding to the London shows, going on before Paramore," Swift wrote on her Instagram Story. "I chose artists whose music I love listening to, and I can't wait for them to add an extra jolt of excitement to our shows."

If you've yet to add Mette, Griff, or Boone to your own playlists, keep reading for a primer on their careers so far.

Key songs: " Bet ," " Van Gogh ," " Mama's Eyes "

The lowdown: Mette Towley, who releases music mononymously as Mette, is a singer, dancer, and actor from Minnesota.

She initially received acclaim after starring in the 2017 music video for "Lemon" by N.E.R.D and Rihanna; the clip opens with Rihanna shaving Mette's head. You may also recognize her from a brief cameo as the discontinued Video Girl doll in the 2023 blockbuster "Barbie."

Mette and Swift most likely met on the set of 2019's "Cats," in which Mette played Cassandra . (Swift portrayed Bombalurina in the unsettling adaptation of the Broadway play.)

More recently, Mette released her debut EP "Mettenarrative" and toured with the UK's disco darling Jessie Ware.

"I really wanted to be an artist growing up, but dance was where I felt most confident in my abilities," she told Vogue last year. "Even when I started making this EP back in 2019, I didn't tell most of the people I knew, my friends and collaborators. It just still felt so far away. Now, I feel like I can truly claim that for myself."

"I have nothing to prove," she added. "Only to share."

In addition to joining The Eras Tour this summer, Mette will also perform at Lollapalooza in Chicago.

thrice tour openers

Key songs: " Vertigo ," " Miss Me Too ," " Black Hole "

The lowdown: Griff — born Sarah Faith Griffiths in Kings Langley, Hertfordshire, to a Jamaican father and Chinese mother — has described herself as a lifelong Swiftie .

"She's probably one of the No. 1 people that I look up to in terms of being a songwriter and being a top female in the music industry and being so consistent and coming back, time after time after time, with incredible songs," Griff told Nylon . "I even said that to her."

The two musicians met at the 2021 Brit Awards , where Griff received the annual rising star award and performed her popular single "Black Hole." (Swift had previously called herself a " huge fan " and even gave Griff a shout-out while accepting the global icon award .)

Griff kept her music aspirations a secret at school and only began pursuing it in earnest after finishing her A-Level exams. Instead of enrolling in a university, she took a "gap year" that quickly snowballed into a professional career . After releasing a string of well-received singles, she opened on tour for Ed Sheeran, a noted pal of Swift's . She has also collaborated with fellow indie-pop darlings like Sigrid and Maisie Peters .

Benson Boone

thrice tour openers

Key songs: " Beautiful Things ," " Slow It Down ," " Cry "

The lowdown: Benson Boone seemed to arrive out of nowhere when his single "Beautiful Things" topped both of Billboard's global charts in February. The surprise viral hit owes much of its success to TikTok, where Boone has 7 million followers .

However, the Washington native had been laying the groundwork for years, already having earned two entries on the Billboard Hot 100 .

Boone started out as a contestant on "American Idol" — where he was praised as a potential winner by none other than Katy Perry — but withdrew from the competition to avoid being pigeonholed in his career. In 2021, he caught the attention of Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds and signed to the rockstar's own label, Night Street Records, in partnership with Warner Records .

Shortly after, Boone made his chart debut with "Ghost Town" (No. 100). He made a second chart appearance in 2022 with his power ballad "In the Stars" (No. 59), which also became his first platinum-certified single in the US.

Lainey Wilson

Lainey Wilson showcased her progression into one of country music’s foremost entertainers during the opening concert of her headlining Country’s Cool Again tour on Friday night (May 31) at Nashville’s Ascend Amphitheater (the first of two nights at the venue). Wilson, the reigning entertainer of the year at both the ACM Awards and the CMA Awards, one of country music’s hardest-working artists, and Billboard ‘s recent cover star , proved just why she’s worthy of those accolades during her headlining show.

How Lainey Wilson Is Making Country Cool Again

Trending on billboard.

“It’s official — country’s cool again,” he told the Nashville crowd, as he sailed through “I See Country Everywhere,” “More Than Me,” and the Cody Johnson collab “Long Live Cowgirls” (sans the Texan hitmaker). He highlighted his Rocky Mountain Fever Band, which was clad in turquoise shirts and bolo ties, as they ripped it up playing songs including Ricky Skaggs’ “Country Boy” and offering up a searing fiddle on a version of Alabama’s “Fiddle in the Band.” He offered up a new song, “Heartbreak King,” before playing the fan favorite, “Cows–t,” as well as the namesake from a recent album, “White Buffalo,” and “Horses are Faster.”

When Wilson took the stage just minutes after 9 p.m., it was clear that she was intent on showcasing just why she’s been lauded with entertainer-level accolades of late, blending high-quality production, country songs with heart and an edge, and a high-energy persona that’s still down-to-earth.

Clad in her signature bell bottoms, Wilson first appeared on top of the truck as she belted out “Straight Up Sideways” and “Smell Like Smoke.” She sang “Heart Like a Truck” while screens focused on Wilson as she sang from inside the retro auto,” while she performed “Watermelon Moonshine” seated on the truck’s tailgate.

Throughout the evening, she came across as not only an entertainer whose songs chronicle stories of love, ambition, and loyalty to home — but a mentor, aspirational role model, and the best friend who can be both supportive and give a motivating kick in the rear when needed. It’s clear the audience has responded — crowd members paid homage to Wilson’s signature style by wearing hats, sparkly bell bottoms and flared jeans.

“I’m not going to lie ya’ll, lately life has been a whirlwind,” she told the crowd. “That’s the world that I keep using, the word that keeps coming to my mind, out of my mouth, trying to keep one foot on the ground. We have literally been everywhere… with all the craziness, I will say, I have fought like hell to keep one foot on the ground and that’s been hard at times. I know a lot of y’all have been here from the beginning and I have a lot of people in my life who remind me who I am and where I come from and I know no matter where I go, no matter what I do, no matter where this job takes me, I’m always gonna be me, I’m always gonna know who I am right in here. I’m always going to find my way back home,” she said, launching into “Good Horses Come Home.”

During the sassy “Bell Bottoms Up,” she nodded to her growing empire as an entertainer — her new Lainey Wilson’s Bell Bottoms Up bar in Nashville, which opened that same day.

“I can’t believe I’m on stage with Wynonna,” Wilson told the crowd, while Wy replied, “I’d open for you any day.”

Meanwhile, Clark teamed with Wilson to perform Clark’s 1996 hit remake of Warren Zevon’s “Poor, Poor Pitiful Me,” from her new album Take Two , with Wilson playing cowbell.

Wilson often spoke of her Louisiana roots, while her intro music included Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Born on the Bayou.” “My heart is filled with gratitude,” she told fans at one point, adding, “Tonight let’s be proud of where we are from and fired up about where we’re going!”

Wilson’s set blended music, theatrics, homespun stories and almost spiritual-minded words of encouragement throughout the evening, as she regularly related to and lifted up her “Wildhorses,” as she affectionately calls her fans. At one point, she crowned one concertgoer Cowgirl of the Night, but not before leading her — and the rest of the crowd — in lifting themselves up with affirmations including “I am smart. I am talented. I am beautiful.”

Wilson also offered up a medley of cover songs — but keeping in line with the tour’s name, instead of a lineup of rock covers, she paid homage to her inspirations with a medley of classic country songs, including Hank Williams’ “Hey, Good Lookin’,” Loretta Lynn’s “You Ain’t Woman Enough,” Johnny Paycheck’s “Take This Job and Shove It,” Randy Travis’s “Forever and Ever, Amen,” Reba McEntire’s “The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia,” Miranda Lambert’s “Kerosene,” Alan Jackson’s “Gone Country” and her own “Country’s Cool Again.”

From there, Wilson showcased a song, “4x4xYou,” from her upcoming August album Whirlwind , a song she noted is inspired by her beau Devlin Hodges.

The show concluded with “Wildflowers and Wild Horses,” as rainy, hurricane-themed imagery swirled on the screens behind Wilson as she stood atop the truck, belting out the empowering song that touched on her familial legacy of “five generations of blazin’ a trail.” In the final moments of the show, she stood tall, lowered her cowboy hat and raised one arm in the air. It’s a power stance used by so many headlining-level male country entertainers — but one that entertainer of the year winner Wilson now fully inhabits as her own.

Taylor Momsen ‘Must Really Be a Witch’ After Getting Bit by Bat During AC/DC Opening Set

By Larisha Paul

Larisha Paul

Every season is spooky season when you’re Taylor Momsen . During a recent performance opening for AC/DC on the Power Up tour, the Pretty Reckless frontwoman caught the attention of a small bat, which flew onstage and proceeded to sink its teeth into her leg. The musician was barely fazed by the encounter, but it’s going to stick with her — at least for the two weeks that she has to receive rabies shots.

“So…ROCK AND ROLL MOMENT…in Sevilla Wednesday during “Witches Burn” of all songs… a BAT 🦇 🦇 flew onto me and clung to my leg,” Momsen wrote on Instagram. “In the moment I was performing and had no idea until the incredible crowd kept screaming and pointing.”

TOURNAMENT RESULTS

{{tournament.sponsortitle}}, player results, sinner survives moutet’s stunning opening burst to book qf spot.

Jannik Sinner in fourth-round action against Corentin Moutet on Sunday night at Roland Garros.

Jannik Sinner withstood an early onslaught from home favourite Corentin Moutet to seal passage to the quarter-finals with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-1 victory Sunday at Roland Garros .

For one remarkable opening set, the No. 79-ranked Moutet had the Court Philippe-Chatrier crowd in the palm of his hand as he dazzled the fans and Sinner with his unique variety-filled lefty game. Moutet, who let slip two chances to complete a rare bagel against the No. 2 in the PIF ATP Rankings from 5-0, 40/15, led by a set and a break at 6-2, 1-0, at which point Sinner’s comeback began.

The Australian Open champion ultimately proved too consistent from the baseline for Moutet, who battled admirably throughout but struggled to counter his opponent’s power across the second, third and fourth sets. Sinner did not seem fazed by the electric atmosphere whipped up by the home fans and he closed out victory in two hours and 41 minutes to set a quarter-final clash with Grigor Dimitrov .

Who will win the Roland Garros quarter-final between Carlos Alcaraz and Stefanos Tsitsipas ?

  • Carlos Alcaraz
  • Stefanos Tsitsipas

“It was very tough for me. I think he played very, very well in the first set,” said Sinner in his on-court interview. “I had some chances, but he played much better than me, so I had to adjust a little bit. He had an amazing run here at Roland Garros . The atmosphere as always was amazing.

“He plays differently to most of my opponents, so it was tough for me. He is also a lefty. You don’t play so many times against left-handers, so I’m happy to be in the next round.”

The Italian’s comeback win was based on an improvement in his serving as his maiden Lexus ATP Head2Head clash with Moutet wore on. Having won just 53 per cent (9/17) of points behind his first serve in the first set, he had improved that statistic to 73 per cent (45/62) by the end of the match.

With his 32nd tour-level win of the year, Sinner kept up the pressure on Novak Djokovic in the Roland Garros battle for World No. 1. Djokovic must reach at least the championship match in Paris to have a chance of retaining top spot after the clay-court major, while Sinner can guarantee his own rise to the top of tennis’ mountain by also reaching that stage.
