Helped me so much

The first time i needed to use this app was when my sister was born. I got out of work early and everyone in my family was at the hospital waiting to see my sister for the first time. I had no car and nobody could pick me up, and I had never navigated the subways or buses on my own before. Somehow I found this app and was able to make a two and half hour trip through different methods of public transportation to get from my work in NY to the hospital in NJ where my sister was born. I surprised everyone when I got there, and would not have been able to see my sister for the first time with everyone else if it wasn’t for this app. It’s been 3 years since then, and I still use this app religiously. It’s the fastest and most reliable way to find ways to use public transportation to get where I need to be, whether its a job or class or a friend’s apartment. I wish everyone knew about this app who needs it. It’s so helpful.

This is my first ever app review, but I felt it my civic duty to sing its praises: I’d be lost in Europe begging on some corner with a crumpled up map in my hands and tears running down my face if it weren’t for this app. I live to travel, but I consider myself “directionally challenged,” and the idea of doing a bunch of research on the best way to get from point A to point B would be unimaginably frustrating. Rome2rio takes the stress out of traveling, and I recommend this app to people ALL the time! Yes, it helps you find the best route to get from country to country or city to city, but you can also narrow it down and put in an address or attraction. I can finally travel solo confidently with this app. It hasn’t let me down yet! I’d follow it to the ends of the earth and back. How this app isn’t more widely known or reviewed is beyond me, every traveler should have it.

Better than any travel site

I always wanted a way to see options for travel beyond flights. Maybe a train takes longer, but maybe you don't care and it's cheaper. Maybe a mountain bus ride in an economically developing country is scary and you'd like to experience it anyway. This app lays out great options for travel based on price. You don't have to search endlessly for different forms of travel that are independent of one another all the while trying to find linking times and places. This app saves you time, money, and shows you how you can be adventurous without a travel guide. I've had this idea for an app or website before, but they have done it so much better than I imagined!!

ROME 2 RIO is an essential tool for me to use when I travel. It has navigated me across the globe solo successfully. Recently it saved me from missing my flight from Athens when the official Athens Airport site posted incorrect bus times, but Rome 2 Rio had everything up to date. This site is phenomenal

Pay double for a ticket

If you want to pay double for a ticket, this is the right place for you. I wanted to book a round trip ticket from Barcelona to Lisbon. Over $600. I later found better times and airlines on Booking.com for $322. I chatted with Rio to Rome to return my money and they refused, though not even two hours had passed.

No longer my go to

I am not sure when this happened, but there was a time when I would not travel anywhere without looking at rome2rio (40+ countries), but in the past 2 or so years the quality of the information provided has decreased significantly. I can no longer assume that the information provided is the best and/or only way to get from point A to B. It is ok to get a general sense of travel options, but you now need to search in several sites to make sure what your options are.

Rome2Rio is amazing!

My husband and I have never been to Scotland or London. We had to find a way to get from Edinburgh to London. Thank GOODNESS for Rome2Rio! We saw all our options and were able to choose the one best suited for us…all in one search. So convenient, so helpful and every time we had a question it was like there was a link right there to find the answer and move on to the next step. We will come here first. I’m telling all my friends who travel about it too!

Is R2R spyware

While the app shows promise in function, I was surprised to find that each time I opened expedia after using R2R, expedia always appears with a R2R header. Reddit shows others with similar experiences. Feels like a spyware that now makes me nervous to use either site.

Shady or not responsible for partner's malfunctioning website

I tried a minimum of 3 times to make a booking through you to Gotogate. Each time, the web site said I had to start over, which I did. As I was going through reentering to data for the third or fourth time, the information was already there: names etc. So, I clicked accept the prompts and finally was able to book. The gotogate, at some point, changed the return flight time to early morning. Everything else was the same. I went in to their website and clicked on current booking, entered the information (booking # T3VU2B) and was told there was no booking. When I tried "NO BOOKING" I got a number to call and was told there was a booking, but with the wrong return time. It looks like they not only have web site problems, but missing record issues. It is highly suspicious and unprofessional. It is also apparent that I have trusted you and lost $341.50. There should be enough ways to earn a profit than this. Pamela Novak

Best travel website ever!

Rome2Rio gives information not available anywhere else, such as the many ways of getting from A2B and the choices within each, and the probable cost. They can actually book many for you. Plus the very quickly answer any question you have in real not IT language. I wish I had known them when planning my previous trip and am using them now for the forthcoming trip.I've told my friends and patients about the site and they love it too.

Constant source of fake information

The Rome2Rio info on London is always wildly wrong! Usually it sends unsuspecting tourists in the wrong direction to a building that didn't exist in a borough 5 miles away from the destination. Today I was trying to look up routes from Customs House to the Excel Centre (which is about 10 minutes away) and by default it provided the following 'information': "The fastest way to get from Customs House to ExCeL London is to fly which takes 27h 48m and costs $800 - $2,300. More details..."

Nothing Can Compare with Rome2Rio!

Nothing can compare with, "Rome2Rio." I was introduced to the site by a fellow traveler. He showed me the app and I was amazed its default showed such detailed door-to-door information! As a test I queried from my house to the Pyramids of Giza. From the corner bus to light rail to airport to flight to shuttle to bus it was all right there. I was blown away. It's especially beneficial to those who are looking to travel by public transportation. Anyway, it's a life changer!

Rome2Rio for bus and train info

I updated Rome2Rio on an Eastern European bus line and they got back to me really quickly. Rome2Rio is one of the best sites for figuring out bus and train service. In this case I needed to go from Sofia Bulgaria to Serbia. There usually is an early bus but they had changed the time and the bus website did not have the information. Rome2Rio puts information together really well. In this case it included a train option even though there isn't an international train, with a 20km taxi in the middle. That's pretty impressive even though the times didn't work out for me.

Sometimes I make several trip plans and…

Sometimes I make several trip plans and wait for promotional long distance flights tickets. I use Rome2rio my trips in advance step by step for my future trip. I have a saved trip code for Sri Lanca. I want to make another travel plan for another place but I could not. I have send a message to Rome2Rio to be able to make several Trip Plans and to save. Rome2Rio Support Team replied same day and keep informing about software developments about new trip planning tool with multi-stop searches (including across multiple countries) and user accounts. Hope they will be developed soon.

RtoR the best journey planner

After using RtoR to organise a 9 month trip around the world and also for domestic trips, I don't believe there is another platform that allows you to do it as easily and comprehensibly.

Price Gouged

Its good to look up ways to travel here, but not to buy from here because you can get it a lot cheaper directly from the plane company site or the bus site , train site, because they charge you for things here that you would get free like checked luggage from the company. I feel like I was Price gouged I’m very unhappy.

10 Rome Apps to Download Before You Go to Italy

Back in the day, tourists had to lug around guidebooks and phrasebooks while looking like idiots gawking at outstretched maps and wandering aimlessly trying to find their way or a decent place to eat. While it still may be easy to pick out the tourists , at least you don’t have to haul all that gear. Now all you need is a smartphone and these Rome apps (and perhaps an extra battery pack.)

Even if you turn off your voice and data roaming while over seas, your smartphone can still be handy for more than just a camera when traveling. I have a number of mobile apps that I recommend when traveling internationally, but here some specific Rome apps to download before you leave on your trip.

Make Sure you Download These Rome Apps

Google maps.

I used to always download the local metro and maps apps when I traveled internationally, but recently I’ve found that Google Maps works just fine. In addition to driving and walking directions, the public transportation options are spot on and can be helpful in letting you know which platform to take, how many stops to go, etc.

There are times when I prefer Apple Maps for walking directions, as they can be a bit more descriptive. The key to either is to download maps to use offline if you plan on leaving your phone in airplane mode or turning off your data roaming.

Google Translate

As prevalent as English is in a modern city like Rome, it is still helpful to have Google Translate in your back pocket. This is helpful in scanning menus and signs using the camera function and overcoming language barriers with locals using the microphone. Just make sure you download the Italian dictionary before you go so that it is available offline and remember that the translation isn’t perfect!

Learn Italian

Learn Italian is an Italian phrases app. There are many on the app store and whichever one you go with, just make sure you pick one that operates offline and you download the content before you go (if needed.) I like to have a phrases app because it makes it easier to quickly look up common words and phrases based on different settings (restaurant, hotel, medical, greetings, etc.) This way the few words you need are easy to review and learn right before you need them.

For language learning before the trip, I use DuoLingo Italian and I’m on a streak of over 2 years!

Rick Steve’s Audio Europe

I’m a big fan of Rick Steve’s podcasts and guidebooks and his Rick Steve’s Audio Europe app offers guided walking tours of popular attractions in Rome like the Colosseum, Forum, Jewish Ghetto, Pantheon, St. Peter’s and the Sistine Chapel, Trastevere, and the Heart of Rome. So if you don’t want to hire a tour guide, this might be the next best thing.

The LivTours app from one of my favorite tour companies offers an overview (with a map) to some of Rome’s popular or more off-the-beaten-path attractions. You can find attractions or shops, filter by points of interest, and learn the history of each attraction.

The real wow factor is with their virtual reality features, which can only be unlocked when you are on one of their tours.

While you can use Uber in Rome, it will cost you more as only Uber Black is available. If you prefer to take a taxi, you usually have to find a local taxi stand or ask the restaurant to call one for you. Now, consumers have a little more control and you can call a taxi using Free Now. You need to download the app and set up an account (so maybe you prefer to pay the Uber premium for simplicity.)

This app can also help you locate and rent e-scooters. Another app that I use to set up airport transfers is Welcome Pickups .

If you use OpenTable in the United States, you can also try that in Rome, but you might find more options on its sister platform, The Fork . You can read reviews, sort by price, type, or neighborhood, and book reservations online.

If you enjoy fine dining, you can also download the MICHELIN Guide app to find and sometimes book Michelin star restaurants.

Italian Menu Decoder

Italy is probably one of the easier countries to travel to because most of us are fairly familiar with the menu. However, sometimes if you want to avoid foods like tripe or just get a better understanding of what something is before you order, download the Italian Menu Decoder . Someday I’ll have to tell you the story of how an app like this would have saved my husband a lot of embarrassment in France! This app provide an alphabetical index of foods and their descriptions so you can decide if that is really what you want to eat or not.

Acea Waidy WOW

Rome has public water fountains throughout the city so instead of buying bottles of water, you can bring along a refillable bottle and this app can help you find where to fill it. The digital map on Acea Waidy WOW includes the location of 3,000 public fountains. Other apps include I Nasoni di Roma and Fountains in Italy.

There may not be a lot of free public restrooms in Rome, but to find them, you can use the WC Rome app. There are also other apps such as Flush Toilet App and Whizzier.

Beryl live updates: Hurricane watch issued for Texas

Hurricane Beryl made landfall on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula on Friday morning after it ripped through Jamaica and the Caribbean earlier this week , leaving 11 dead, as southern Texas and the Gulf Coast brace for its arrival this weekend.

Beryl weakened to a tropical storm on Friday afternoon, and continued to weaken as it moved across the Yucatan, but the National Hurricane Center warned at 4 p.m. C.T. that it's forecast to regain hurricane strength before approaching the western Gulf Coast.

With the center's latest update, a hurricane watch and a storm surge watch went into effect along the Texas coast from the mouth of the Rio Grande northward to Sargent, meaning hurricane conditions are expected within 36 hours. A hurricane watch also is in effect for mainland Mexico from the Rio Grande south to Barra el Mezquital.

The center's forecast cone graphic now shows Beryl with winds of 90 mph as it reaches the coast between northeastern Mexico and the middle Texas coast on Monday. But the entire coast of Texas lies within the forecast cone – which indicates the likely path of the center of the storm over the next five days.

Additional watches and warnings along the U.S. coast could be possible later today, the center stated.

By 4 p.m. C.T. Beryl was about 35 miles east-southeast of Progreso, Mexico and 610 miles east-southeast of Brownsville, Texas, the National Hurricane Center said. As it continued moving across the Yucatan its maximum sustained winds had dropped to 65 mph. The center of the storm is forecast to emerge over the Southwestern Gulf of Mexico during the next few hours.

Hurricane Beryl expected to move over southern Texas

Beryl is forecast to weaken "a little more" before moving fully into the Gulf on Friday evening, the center said. Once the center moves offshore, it could take 12-24 hours before the hurricane begins to reintensify again as it recovers from its trip across the Yucatan and copes with some windy conditions.

The winds are forecast to become more favorable as Beryl moves into the western Gulf and should allow Beryl to become a hurricane within about 36 hours, the hurricane center said. For now its winds are forecast to reach 90 mph before landfall, but that number could rise if Beryl stays over the Gulf longer.

The risk of hurricane-force winds and life-threatening storm surge are increasing along the coast in portions of northeastern Mexico and the lower and middle Texas coasts for overnight Sunday and into Monday, the center said.Flooding is possible along the Texas coast and eastern Texas through the middle of the week.

Beryl is forecast to produce 5-10 inches of rainfall in Texas , with up to 15 inches in isolated locations, across portions of the coast and in eastern Texas beginning late Sunday through the middle of next week, the hurricane center said. The storm also is forecast to deliver a storm surge amounts of 2-5 feet along the coast and dangerous rip currents.

"Today and Saturday will be our calm before the storm," the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi wrote in an advisory Friday.

Beryl's effects are expected to flare up Friday evening, including a high risk of rip currents, the center said. By Saturday, the coast could see some minor flooding as some showers begin ahead of the hurricane's arrival.

Residents should make "preparedness plans," forecasters said.

Multiple large urban areas in Texas, including Houston, Austin and San Antonio, lie in the storm's broad path of projection, according to a Friday morning advisory from the weather service.

In Houston, locally heavy rainfall is the "primary severe weather threat" as Beryl makes landfall near or on the South Texas coast Sunday night or early Monday and works its way generally northwestward into Wednesday, the weather service said.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott directed the state's Division of Emergency Management to increase its readiness level for the storm on Thursday.

"As Texans and visitors around the south coastal areas begin to celebrate our nation's Independence Day, I urge them to make an emergency plan, review hurricane evacuation routes, and continue to monitor weather conditions to ensure the safety of themselves and their loved ones," he wrote in a news release .

Forecasters are uncertain whether the storm will reach Austin, weather service meteorologist Mack Morris told the Austin American-Statesman , part of the USA TODAY Network, on Thursday. By the time the storm hits Texas, it could be downgraded to a Category 1 storm, he said.

According to AccuWeather , the storm could strengthen into a hurricane again. It could make landfall again near the Texas-Mexico border late Sunday or early Monday, meteorologists predicted.

Hurricane Center  Director Michael Brennan warned Texans to keep checking forecasts through the holiday weekend. If Beryl affects the western Gulf of Mexico as a tropical storm, "it could be during the day Saturday," he said.

'Yesterday was scary, but … we are good'

A light rain in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, midday Friday settled Gabi Vasquez' worries about the hurricane's effects.

Her car maintenance company put up ads on social media offering to repair houses and property damaged in the storm. As of noon local time, no calls had yet come in.

"Yesterday was scary, but right now, we are good," she said.

Her family, who live in Tulum, also reassured her that they were safe. Their electricity had even stayed on. "Internet – I think they don't have it, but it's all good," she said.

Vasquez did her own preparation for Beryl's arrival, including securing her home's windows and doors. "Also, we bought food like tuna, water and candles," she said.

Some flights canceled in Cancun as Hurricane Beryl approaches

More than 1,170 temporary shelters were installed throughout the Yucatan Peninsula ahead of the storm, according to a news release Thursday from the state's government. The Tulum International Airport shut down and was set to remain closed until Sunday. Cancun Airport was operational, but many flights were canceled.

Beryl strengthened to become the earliest Category 5 storm on record earlier this week. It brought widespread devastation as it passed over the Caribbean Sea.

On Thursday, the storm barreled through Grand Cayman, the largest of the Cayman islands. It touched down in Jamaica the day before as a Category 4 hurricane, triggering power outages, destroying structures, and forcing hundreds into emergency shelters.

Officials updated the storm's death toll to 11 on Thursday but said news of more deaths probably would come in as communications were restored.

Task force deployed as U.S. embassy closes

The U.S. Embassy in Mexico expected to shutter its doors Friday, with plans to reopen Monday.

Mexico's government established a "prevention zone" across the part of the Yucatan's coastline under hurricane warnings. Dozens of rivers and dams throughout the areas were being monitored, according to a news release Wednesday.

A task force of 8,535 response elements and 727 vehicles will be deployed, Tania Patricia Ramírez Gutiérrez, director of Mexico's National Communication Center, said in the news release.

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador advised people to seek high altitudes and take shelter in a post on X .

"Let us not hesitate, material things can be recovered," he wrote. "The most important thing is life."

Jamaica, Caribbean islands assess damage, deaths from Hurricane Beryl

Hurricane Beryl's arrival in Mexico comes after it left widescale destruction on its path through the Caribbean .

The storm caused the deaths of at least 11 people in Jamaica, Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and northern Venezuela.

Jamaica confirmed two deaths in the hurricane, Prime Minister Andrew Holness told the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. in an interview Thursday. One body had not been recovered, Holness said.

"The report is that that person was swept out to sea, but we're still seeking to see if we could recover the body," he said.

One person in the parish of Hanover was killed by a downed tree , Richard Thompson, deputy director general of Jamaica's Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management, said.

Holness said officials were working to assess the damage sustained by the island. "We have now transitioned from the preparedness phase into the recovery phase," he said.

More than 90% of all homes and buildings on three islands within the Grenadine Island chain were destroyed by the hurricane when it tore through earlier this week, the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency said Wednesday . St. Vincent and the Grenadines "bore the brunt of Hurricane Beryl," said Elizabeth Riley, the disaster management agency's executive director.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines could be at risk of food shortages after the storm destroyed half of the island's plantain and banana crops, Permanent Agriculture Ministry Secretary Nerissa Gittens-McMillan said.

Grenada Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell called the level of destruction in the islands of Carriacou and Petite Martinique "almost Armageddon-like" in a news conference Tuesday.

"There's really nothing that can prepare you to see this level of destruction."
