- New Orleans Original Bike Tour Company
Welcome to our Family of Cruises
there is no more fun way to explore new orleans than by bicycle, especially on an easy to ride, fat-tired cruiser that’s as laid back as we are. what we offer is simple; free-flowing tours that are slow paced, like the city itself. we roll with all the time you need to soak up the local color and hear the stories of our history and people that make new orleans a city like no other..
Confederacy of Cruisers invites you on bike rides where we share what we love best: New Orleans. Our various tours roll through several scenic traditionally Creole neighborhoods including the old Faubourgs; Marigny and Treme and down into the friendly and colorful Bywater. As we ride, taking routes we can customize as we go, we explore the architecture and history of the city, unraveling the mysteries and crazy stories of the past and present, that, when seen as a whole, will give you a glimpse into the heart of our unique local culture. If we can just provide a hint of why we can never envision living anywhere else, we are happy. There really is no place like New Orleans, and sharing it is what we love to do.
We started Confederacy of Cruisers 10 years ago for one reason, no one offered a tour of New Orleans that we would have wanted to take. There were no bike tours back then, and no small group tours either, so we reinvented what we thought a tour of our city should be so you could experience our home the best way possible, and that is still what we do all these years later. Riding with us, we bring you more of the life here, have a little more fun, and cover the usually missed local spots that we find so great. You’ll learn plenty about our New Orleans, because that is our passion, but you’ll have a great day out, too. We want you to leave our city filled with great memories and will do everything we can to make sure you do. If you have any doubts check us out in any of the travel review sites – we offer an unparalleled New Orleans experience and the many years of positive comments from our happy customers attest to that. We originate neighborhood bike tours and are still coming up with new ones that will be as popular as our culinary and drinking tours that only we offer.
We have an array of tours, all written by the guides taking you out, that cater to any interest. We’ve had our tours lead to marriage proposals, to folks moving to New Orleans, but mostly just to many, many good times and great memories with customers who are now our friends.
If we sound like your kind of folks, and you wish to make reservations for our tours, or have any questions about us and our service feel free to contact us by email at [email protected] or give us a call at (504) 400-5468 and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.
Thanks for checking us out. – Jeff Shyman (the founder and still full-time guide)

New Orleans Bike Itinerary
Bypass the busses and cars and take the scenic route with our biker’s guide to new orleans.
Whether it’s a ride around the city or just around the block, New Orleans is a city that welcomes cyclists. New Orleans is home to many parks and trails, perfect for getting in some exercise. Here’s a few of our top routes to explore via bicycle.
Where can I rent bikes in New Orleans?
Renting bikes in New Orleans is convenient thanks to a number of local programs and vendors. The city’s Blue Bike Program places public bike shares throughout the various neighborhoods of New Orleans for all to take advantage of. Simply download the app to find the bike rack closest to you, set-up your Blue Bike account and payment, and start riding! Bikes can be dropped off at any rack nearest your final destination when finished.
For a more personalized bike rental experience, browse our list of local bike vendors to rent from. Shops are located in most neighborhoods across the city, making it easy to find wheels and start your ride.
Where are the best bike routes in New Orleans?
While bikers and drivers share the roads here in NOLA–making just about any road biker-friendly–there are a few routes perfect for getting bikers around the city and bypassing clutter and chaos of traffic.
St. Charles Avenue
The historic St. Charles Avenue is lined with massive oak trees, mansions that have stood for centuries and, of course, the iconic St. Charles Streetcar. No matter which point you begin or end at, biking along St. Charles is an unforgettable experience. It is also home to some of the best Mardi Gras parades, award-winning dining, world-class art galleries and some of the city’s most sought-after attractions and architecture.
Audubon Park
Just along the St. Charles Avenue route is Audubon Park - a picturesque oasis hidden among greenery, Spanish moss, and Oak trees. Its secluded location, open space, and local highlights make an ideal location for a family-friendly bike ride. This route is closed to vehicular traffic, making it an even safer option for cyclists.
With so much to do encompassed within its four-mile stretch, an afternoon can easily be spent biking in New Orleans City Park . Loop around the four-mile park and end up in Gentilly, Lakeview, Mid-City, or near Lakeshore Drive, depending on which route you choose. Do a ride-by to check out the wildflowers that are currently in bloom.
Lafitte Greenway
Connecting one part of the city to another is the Lafitte Greenway . This popular bike and walking trail leads riders from Mid-City through Tremé by way of Esplanade Ridge, ending at the French Quarter. With historic landmarks, breweries, and lots of nature along the way, this scenic ride is an urban oasis.
Crescent Park Trail
Just past the charming Jackson Square and French Market, Crescent Park stretches along the Mississippi River, providing unparalleled views and access to the water. Although it’s the shortest route, it packs a punch with some of the city’s best hangouts, sunset views and attractions in its path.
Lakeshore Drive
A popular path for training and long-distance biking, Lakeshore Drive provides a waterfront path and the opportunity to explore the Lakeview area. Plan your ride around sunrise or sunset for some of the best views you’ll find in all of New Orleans.
Are there guided bike tours in New Orleans?
Of course! If you’re looking to bike your way through the Crescent City but aren’t sure where to start, there are plenty of experienced tour guides willing to show off their skills on wheels.
Get a taste of the French Quarter as well as heritage and the history of New Orleans while riding with Flambeaux Bicycle Tours . Offered during the day and at night, Flambeaux lights up the city and guides the way just as Flambeaux carriers do during Mardi Gras parades.

The Bergerons
///The owners
Meet the Bergerons, the first family of the New Orleans bike tour & rental industry.
Ryan’s family first set foot in the territory in the 1690’s – 13 generations ago. His great-grandfather, French-Canadian soldier Barthélemy Bergeron d’Amboise, accompanied Pierre Le Moyne d’Iberville (the founder of New Orleans) on many military and exploratory expeditions through Canada and the Louisiana Territory .
Melissa’s family migrated from Paris in the 1750’s. Her New Orleans lineage includes a multitude of famous jazz musicians, riverboat captains and the architect who built the first New Orleans skyscraper. Melissa’s father is the drummer of arguably the most famous living musician from the 1960’s, and is on a ‘ Never Ending Tour .’
Though Ava is young, she’s off to a grand beginning. She’s an exemplary student, and her interest and talent in the arts are beginning to blossom. To celebrate Ava’s birth, her grandfather wrote her a song called, ‘Ava Magnolia.’ It is a track on the Grammy Award winning album, Dockside Sessions (Best Regional Roots Album category), by Zydeco artist Terrance Simien. Here’s the link if you’d like to hear it.
10 years ago, nudged along by the news that they were going to be parents of the beautiful & charismatic Ava Magnolia, Ryan & Melissa saw an opportunity to create a niche service that did not exist in the New Orleans tourism industry, bicycle tourism.
During many midnight conversations on the living room sofa, the plan for The American Bicycle Rental Company was developed. We found a small office in the back of the French Quarter, bought 12 American-made bikes from the country’s oldest (and last) bike manufacturer , and began working 7 days a week for the next many years to build this new service and spread the word throughout the city. Riding the success of the rental company, and listening to the requests from their customers for bike tours, Ryan & Melissa launched FreeWheelin’ Bike Tours with Teddy (Ryan’s cousin) as the company’s first (and only) tour guide.
A decade has passed, and despite the rise of a multitude of competitors (the “copy & paste krewe” as we call them), the implementation of a bike share program that decimated locally owned bike rental & tour businesses e.g. Blue Bikes, unusually regular street flooding (that rarely happened before Hurricane Katrina ), a hotel collapse just two blocks away, dubious practices by online business listing platforms, and constant hurdles thrown before us by the tragically inept and aloof City Hall, our companies are still battling to stay atop the ultra-competitive bicycle tourism industry.
Being trailblazing entrepreneurs in a tourism-centric city hasn’t been easy, but the rewards of smiling customers the world over has been worth all of the headaches, setbacks, long hours and hard work.
The Bergerons love their home town of New Orleans and would like nothing more than to host you for a bike tour or rental during your visit to the one and only Crescent City.
What are you waiting for mes amis? You can’t get more New Orleans than FreeWheelin’ unless you can summon Iberville from the great beyond. Click over to the tour page that interests you most and book your next great vacation experience – we’ll see you soon!
MEET OUR TOUR GUIDES
Theodore Schiro III aka Teddy, aka Lord Mayor
///general manager & tour guide.
Teddy is the O.G. (Original Guide) of the New Orleans bike tour industry; he wrote FreeWheelin’s original “ Creole & Crescent ” tour almost a decade ago, and he continues to charm our customers from around the world.
Teddy’s tour style is loaded with sharp wit & humor which is part of what makes touring with Teddy such an enjoyable time; his tours are so entertaining that customers come back year after year to go on another ride with the “Lord Mayor” of New Orleans (a nickname given to him by a media writer from London).
More worldwide media articles have referenced Teddy’s guide style, content and wry humor than probably any other tour guide on the globe – he’s famous y’all.
If you haven’t experienced New Orleans with Teddy leading the way, mais you really haven’t experienced the city at all. If New Orleans was a person, it would be named Theodore Schiro III, and dat’s the truth mon cher.
Ryan Bergeron
///owner & tour guide.
Ryan is the fellow who after his last active duty mission ended, Task Force Gator , went out on a limb a decade ago to launch The American Bicycle Rental Company and FreeWheelin’ Bike Tours.
Ryan is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and the Louisiana Air National Guard, his love for all things American runs deep.
When you come to the shop, you’ll probably see him on the phone or the computer, paying bills, or working on our bikes, … but he’s never be too busy to greet you with a smile and sincere ‘thank you’ for choosing to ride with us.

I was able to make it in to tour the studio and try a session, finally. Olivia and Aalyiah have been so encouraging and helpful. The facility is tidy, clean, encouraging and an overall "safe space". They made my experience worth my time! I look forward to future visits. Would definitely recommend to a friend.
