A look at jordan spieth's 13 pga tour, major championship wins, share this article.

Not many young phenoms live up to the hype. But to be fair, not many are wired like Jordan Spieth.

After a stellar amateur career, Spieth has won 13 times during his PGA Tour career, most recently at the 2022 RBC Heritage , his first victory as a father following the birth of his first child, Sammy .

With his 2017 Travelers Championship victory ( which produced an epic celebration ), Spieth joined Tiger Woods as the only other player to win 10 times on Tour before turning 24 years old since World War II.

The Texan and former world No. 1 has also won the Australian Open twice (2014 and 2016) and the Hero World Challenge, also in 2014. Spieth has taken home nearly $60 million in on-course earnings in his career.

Take a scroll through history and re-live all of Spieth’s wins.

2013 John Deere Classic

Spieth shot 65 in the final three rounds and holed out from a bunker on his final hole to force a playoff with defending champion Zach Johnson and David Hearn at 19 under. The playoff went five holes with the 19-year-old Spieth coming out victorious.

“I don’t know what I did to deserve all those breaks,” Spieth said.

2015 Valspar Championship

Spieth’s second win also came via a playoff, this time taking down Patrick Reed and Sean O’Hair with an incredible walk-off birdie.

2015 Masters Tournament

A month after winning the Valspar, Spieth rode that momentum down Magnolia Lane and around Augusta National all the way to Butler Cabin. Spieth beat Phil Mickelson and Justin Rose by four shots at 18 under to earn his first major title.

2015 U.S. Open

Spieth didn’t take long to win his second major title, claiming the 2015 U.S. Open at Chambers Bay by just one shot over Dustin Johnson and Louis Oosthuizen after a wild final round (you might remember DJ missing a three footer to force a playoff).

2015 John Deere Classic

Have you heard the one where Spieth won in a playoff? His second John Deere title and fifth win on Tour came after a playoff with Tom Gillis,

2015 Tour Championship

Spieth already had the PGA Tour’s Player of the Year honors in the bag, but he put the perfect end to his stellar season with a fifth win at the season-finale Tour Championship.

2016 Hyundai Tournament of Champions

After five wins in 2015, it’s only natural that Spieth begin 2016 by winning the Hyundai Tournament of Champions at 30 under, eight shots clear of runner-up Patrick Reed.

2016 Dean & DeLuca Invitational

Spieth had himself a weekend at Colonial Country Club in 2016, shooting consecutive rounds of 65 for his first professional win in his home state of Texas at 17 under, three clear of Harris English.

2017 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am

2017 Travelers Championship

Spieth began the 2017 Travelers with an opening-round 63 but found himself in, you guessed it, a playoff on Sunday. How did he win it? By doing the most Jordan Spieth thing imaginable.

2017 Open Championship

While this major win will be remembered for the marathon par-4, 13th hole where Spieth went right of right and took an unplayable lie and dropped from the practice area, let’s not forget he won wire-to-wire with four sub-70 rounds at an Open Championship.

2021 Valero Texas Open

A win three-plus years in the making. Spieth had been rounding into form early in the 2021 season and got back to his winning ways in front of a home crowd at TPC San Antonio.

2022 RBC Heritage

After joining a list of notables to miss the cut the week prior at the Masters , Spieth came back with a vengeance at the RBC Heritage. The 28-year-old Texan fired a Sunday 66 thanks to a pair of eagles on the front nine to post a number at 13 under and ultimately force a playoff with Patrick Cantlay.

Each player found the bunker on the first playoff hole, but Spieth got up-and-down with ease to claim his 13th career win.

Jordan Spieth had already tapped in for par on the 18th hole, the first of a sudden-death playoff against Patrick Cantlay Sunday at the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town. He watched as Cantlay's par attempt sped past the hole and it hit him that he had won his 13th PGA Tour title.

"The whole thing took me by surprise because I legitimately thought Patrick was going to make it from 35 feet," Spieth said afterward, while wearing the tartan jacket that historically is presented to the winner.

Spieth's wife, Annie, came running out, holding 5-month-old son Sammy, and the family celebrated the victory. This was the second consecutive year that Spieth won on Easter Sunday. Last year he won the Valero Texas Open.

With the victory, Spieth earned $1,440,000, which turns out to be a bigger deal than you might think. The first-place prize money payout pushed Spieth past $50 million in career earnings, lifting him to $50,578,855.

Just 10 other tour pros have broke the $50 million barrier. Spieth now is No. 11 on the all-time list, having jumped Ernie Els and Jason Day from 13th prior to this week. Spieth is now less than $4 million behind 10th-place Sergio Garcia. Matt Kuchar, who earned $330,857 for a third-place tie at the RBC Heritage, jumped past Garcia and moved into ninth on the list with $54.5 million.

Tiger Woods tops the list with more than $120 million in career earnings. Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson are second and third, respectively.

All 14 Of Jordan Spieth's Career Wins

Jordan Spieth has already achieved more in his five year PGA Tour career than the majority of players achieve in a lifetime. By Matt Cradock

The 24 year old has 14 Professional wins Worldwide, including 11 PGA Tour victories and three majors.

This week marks the fifth anniversary of Spieth’s debut on the PGA Tour and what better way to celebrate it then to go through each Professional win of his career.

2013 John Deere Classic

The American's first victory came only a few months after securing his PGA Tour card.

At the John Deere Classic, Spieth shot a final round 65 to get himself into a three-man playoff, this also included a hole out from the greenside bunker on the 72 nd hole.

The three-man playoff included Zach Johnson and David Hearn and was a closely-fought encounter.

Eventually Spieth claimed the victory with a par on the fifth extra hole. The win made Spieth the fourth youngest player to win on the PGA Tour and the first teenager to win for 82 years.

2014 Emirates Australian Open

The second win of his career came at the end of 2014 in Australia. The Texan had been level with leaders Greg Chalmers and Brett Rumford after three rounds of play.

The fourth round however was all about Spieth, as he shot a course record -8 round of 63 to breeze to a six stroke victory.

2014 Hero World Challenge

The following week Spieth would claim yet another title in dominant fashion as he produced four amazing rounds of golf.

The American was in scintillating form as he set a new tournament record of -26, his four rounds were: 66,67,63 & 66.

2015 Valspar Championship

jordan spieth last pga tour win

The second PGA Tour victory for Spieth came at the Valspar Championship in Florida.

In an amazing duel between Ryder Cup team mate Patrick Reed and fellow American Sean O’Hair it was Spieth who came out on top on the third extra playoff hole.

The tournament was dubbed one of the best of the year due to its ever-changing leaderboard and incredible escapes and saves.

2015 Masters

jordan spieth last pga tour win

The second win of Spieth’s 2015 season came at the famous Augusta National Golf Club.

It was the first major win for the American and in the process he would smash several records along the way.

His first two rounds of 64 & 66 set the 36 hole scoring record. He would then break the 54 hole scoring record the next day and would end up equalling Tiger Woods’ overall record of -18.

Spieth also produced the most birdies during the Masters by making 28 and became the second-youngest person to win the Green Jacket.

2015 US Open

jordan spieth last pga tour win

The 21-year-old followed up his first major victory with yet another one at the 2015 US Open.

Spieth started the final round in a four way tie for the lead and after posting a -1 round of 69 he was leading in the clubhouse.

However, Dustin Johnson stuck his approach shot on the 18 th to 12-feet for a possible eagle and it seemed the curtain was coming down on Spieth's hope for another Major.

Amazingly though, Johnson would three putt and hand the trophy to his countryman. The win made Spieth only the sixth player ever to win the Masters and the US Open in the same year and the fourth-youngest player to win multiple majors.

2015 John Deere Classic

jordan spieth last pga tour win

Spieth claimed his second John Deere Classic in 2015 in yet another playoff, this time against American Tom Gillis.

The American had been questioned for playing the event as it was the Open Championship the following week and the a number of players were playing in Scotland as preparation.

However, Spieth would claim victory on the second playoff hole and help gain momentum going towards the third major of the year.

2015 Tour Championship & FedEx Cup

jordan spieth last pga tour win

Spieth’s incredible 2015 season was wrapped up in fine style as the American claimed the Tour Championship and with it the FedEx Cup.

The 22-year-old needed a victory to claim the FedEx Cup title and he delivered, as he fired four rounds in the 60s to finish four clear of Danny Lee, Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson .

The five victories during the season saw Spieth sweep all the major awards for the season: PGA Player of the Year and PGA Tour Player of the Year, the Vardon Trophy, Byron Nelson Award for leading the tour in scoring average and Arnold Palmer Award for leading the tour's money list.

2016 Hyundai Tournament of Champions

jordan spieth last pga tour win

Spieth started 2016 in strong form once again; during the Tournament of Champions he would shoot a record score of -30.

He would win the event by eight strokes and also became just the second player in PGA Tour history to shoot -30 in a 72-hole event.

2016 Dean & DeLuca Invitational

jordan spieth last pga tour win

Spieth claimed his first win at the Dean & DeLuca Invitational following his Masters collapse in April .

The American birdied six holes on the back nine to hold off fellow Countryman Harris English by three shots.

2016 Emirates Australian Open

jordan spieth last pga tour win

This was the third win of the 2016 season for Spieth and it came in yet another playoff, this time against Australians Cameron Smith and Ashley Hall.

The American had shot a final round 69 to draw level with the leaders and a birdie on the first playoff hole was enough to win the tournament for the second time in three years.

2017 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am

jordan spieth last pga tour win

In his 100 th PGA Tour start he would claim yet another title, finishing at -19.

Coming into the final round he had a comfortable six shot lead and a final round of 70 helped cement the victory in convincing fashion.

With the win, Spieth became just the second man, along with Tiger Woods, to win nine times on the PGA Tour before the age of 24.

2017 Travelers Championship

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsAythDzjXg

And he wouldn’t have to wait long to secure his 10 th title in dramatic circumstances.

After a first round 63 he almost won wire-to-wire, finishing at -12 and tied with fellow countryman and close friend Daniel Berger .

At the first playoff hole Spieth would hole out from the greenside bunker to miraculously claim his 10 th PGA Tour win of his career. The celebration with caddie Michael Greller was superb.

2017 Open Championship

jordan spieth last pga tour win

His third major win came at Royal Birkdale in once again an epic duel, this time with Matt Kuchar.

Having entered the final round with the outright lead he was soon trailing Kuchar, but a formidable run of birdie on the 14 th , eagle on the 15 th and birdies on 16 and 17 gave the 23-year-old a three stroke victory and the Claret Jug.

He therefore became only the second player in history to win three of golf's four majors before his 24 th birthday.

Spieth has also been apart of three President Cup teams claiming three out three wins and also two Ryder Cup teams winning once in 2016 and losing once in 2014.

2021 Texas Open: Jordan Spieth wins first PGA Tour event since 2017 with Masters ahead

Spieth has restored his game at the perfect time with a home-state victory and tough test ahead.

jordan-spieth-texas-open-sunday-getty.jpg

A long road came to an appropriate conclusion Sunday for Jordan Spieth, who shot four straight rounds under par to pick up a two-stroke victory in the 2021 Texas Open. It is Spieth's first victory on the PGA Tour since 2017 as the 27-year-old has struggled to find his game after an incredible start to his professional career.

Spieth (-18) shot 67 or better in three of the four rounds at the Texas Open, closing with a 66 on Sunday to clear second-place finisher Charley Hoffman by two strokes. He birdied three of his final six holes Sunday and shot par or better over his final 14 holes to end the tournament.

The victory is a key achievement for Spieth, not only because it occured in his home state but due to the fact that it comes just days before he takes on the 2021 Masters at Augusta National, the site of his greatest victory in 2015 and most crushing defeat in 2016.

"There were a lot of times I wasn't sure if I'd be here [in the winner's circle]," Spieth told NBC after the final round. "I never doubted in myself to get back to where I wanted to go. When you lose confidence, a lot of times it's hard to see the positive going forward. ... It's a team effort, and I've been blessed to work with the best in the world at everything they do. This is a monumental win for me. It's one I've certainly thought about for a long time."

The victory is Spieth's 12th on the PGA Tour and first since the 2017 Open Championship. He is just the fifth player in the last 40 years to win 12 or more events before age 28, joining an exceptional short list that includes Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas.

Prior to his three-year drought, Spieth went on an absolute tear from 2015-17, winning three majors (2015 Masters, 2015 U.S. Open, 2017 Open) along with the 2015 Tour Championship and six other events in that span.

He struggled massively in 2019 and 2020 with career-worst showings at the Masters (T46, 2020), PGA Championship (T71, 2020) and U.S. Open (T65, 2019). Spieth also opened the 2020-21 season by missing the cut in four of his first seven events and finishing no better than T38 in the other three.

However, Spieth has been on an absolute tear beginning at Phoenix Open in February. In addition to his win Sunday, he has four other top-five finishes along with two top 15s out of seven events (he placed T48 in The Players Championship).

"I actually felt really light. I felt like I just wanted to come out and smile, try to have some fun," Spieth said of his Sunday effort. "That's kind of been a challenge for me on these Sundays when I've been in contention is really, going into the round, I've not come out with a real lightness to me. I just felt like today, I did. ... Man, it's been a long road."

With the 2021 Masters beginning Thursday, Spieth is playing his best golf in three years. He is one of the top favorites in the event, entering Augusta with 11-1 odds coming out of his Texas Open victory. That's tied for third-best on the board with Bryson DeChambeau, according to William Hill Sportsbook.

2021 Valero Texas Open

Jordan spieth ends winning drought with victory at valero texas open.

Jordan Spieth ended a slump that lasted nearly four years, closing with a 6-under 66 on Sunday to win the Valero Texas Open for his first victory since the 2017 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.

Now he heads to Augusta National as one of the favorites at the Masters Tournament.

"This is a monumental win for me," Spieth said. "It's been a long road. There were a lot of times that I didn't know I would be here."

Spieth sealed it with a 5-foot birdie putt on the 17th hole, and he won by two shots over Charley Hoffman.

Tied for the lead with Matt Wallace going into Sunday at the TPC San Antonio, Spieth moved out in front and didn't let anyone catch him. He built a three-shot lead with a birdie on the 12th hole, when Hoffman made him sweat.

Hoffman, needing a victory to get back to the Masters, chipped in for birdie on the par-3 13th and holed a 20-foot birdie putt from the fringe on the par-3 16th to get within one shot.

Photos From the 2021 Valero Texas Open

But he found a bunker off the tee on the short par-4 17th and had to settle for par as Spieth moved two shots ahead, and they both made par on the closing hole. Hoffman closed with a 66.

Spieth, who finished at 18-under 270, moved to No. 7 in the FedExCup standings.

Wallace couldn't keep up and closed with a 70 to finish alone in third. Lucas Glover (66) finished in fourth, while Anirban Lahiri birdied the last hole for a 69 to finish alone in fifth.

Spieth typically is a favorite at the Masters, where he was runner-up in his debut in 2014, won wire-to-wire the next year and was runner-up again after losing a back-nine lead in 2016.

Jordan Spieth wins Valero Texas Open, his first PGA Tour victory in nearly four years

The dallas native had been winless since his 2017 british open title..

By The Associated Press

4:58 PM on Apr 4, 2021 CDT

SAN ANTONIO — Jordan Spieth tapped in for par to win the British Open for his third major and 11th victory in just five years on the PGA Tour. He never imagined he would go 1,351 days before he felt that way again.

He went 82 events on tour without winning. Once the No. 1 player, he was headed out of the top 100 in the world.

And now he’s back.

Spieth ended a mystifying slump Sunday by giving himself birdie chances and making most of them, closing with a 6-under 66 to hold off Charley Hoffman for a two-shot victory in the Valero Texas Open.

“There’s peaks and valleys in this sport, but I never expected to go this long,” Spieth said. “Back then, in between wins, maybe I took things more for granted than I should have. It’s very difficult to win out here and I’ll certainly enjoy this one as much as I have any other.”

There it is. After a 1,351-day winless drought, the longest such stretch of his career by more than two years, Jordan Spieth has won a PGA Tour event. It's the 12th win of the 27-year-old Spieth's career. And it just so happens to come the week before the '21 Masters. Buckle up. — Scott Bell (@ScottBellDMN) April 4, 2021

The only surprise was that he figured he would be more emotional. He was too busy holding off a spirited run by Hoffman, who went from a three-shot deficit with six holes to play to one shot behind. Spieth all but sealed it with a wedge to a back pin to 5 feet for birdie.

“This is a monumental win for me,” Spieth said. “It’s been a long road. There were a lot of times that I didn’t know I would be here.”

Now he heads to Augusta National as one of the favorites at the Masters. Even going so long without winning, the 12th win of his career allowed him to join some elite company. In the past 40 years, only Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas has won at least 12 times before turning 28.

The 27-year-old from Dallas showed signs of turning it around after starting the year by missing the cut at Torrey Pines. He was tied for the 54-hole lead in Phoenix. He led by two going into the final round at Pebble Beach. He was two behind going into the last day at Bay Hill. He reached the weekend of the Dell Match Play.

“I’ve had a chance on Sundays three or four different times in the last two months, and today was by far the best that I played,” Spieth said. “Just to see those putts go in, I felt like I was doing everything right those other Sundays and I hit good putts and they wouldn’t go in. Today I hit a couple that I didn’t quite strike very well but they went in.”

Tied for the lead with Matt Wallace going into Sunday at the TPC San Antonio, Spieth moved out in front and didn’t let anyone catch him. He built a three-shot lead with a birdie on the 12th hole, when Hoffman made him sweat.

Hoffman chipped in for birdie on the par-3 13th and holed a 20-foot birdie putt from the fringe on the par-3 16th to get within one shot. But he found a bunker off the tee on the short par-4 17th and had to settle for par as Spieth moved two shots ahead, and they both made par on the closing hole.

“I’ve lost golf tournaments, I’ve won golf tournaments, but today Jordan won the golf tournament,” Hoffman said. “Obviously I put some pressure on. Obviously I would have liked to have hit some better shots coming down the stretch, but gave myself an opportunity coming down the 18th fairway and that’s all you can ask for. Hats off to Jordan.”

Spieth, who finished at 18-under 270, moved to No. 38 in the world. He is back in the top 50 for the first time in more than a year.

Wallace couldn’t keep up and closed with a 70 to finish alone in third.

He once said he never really thought about much why he played well and won, he just did. Now after so much inspection of a game that got away from him, and the work it required to get back, he appears headed in the right direction.

“There’s some key moments here and there, different time periods where I felt like things were turning around,” he said. “There’s also moments I look back on where I hit balls till my hands bled and I wasn’t doing the right thing and I just went home thought about it. Lost sleep. This sport can take you a lot of different directions.”

On this day, it took him to a trophy ceremony that came with a pair of cowboy boots.

Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth aim for resurgence at PGA Championship

Jordan Spieth discusses the pressure of the PGA Championship and completing his career Grand Slam. (0:33)

jordan spieth last pga tour win

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Jordan Spieth is no stranger to playing with Justin Thomas . From practice rounds at major championships to alternate-shot matches at the Ryder Cup, the two have almost always gone in tandem.

But this week, among the long, narrow fairways of Valhalla Country Club, Spieth has already noticed that the energy around his longtime friend from Louisville is unique.

"I play a lot of golf with him," Spieth said Tuesday. "Yesterday felt different."

Park yourself outside the ropes at Valhalla during Thomas' practice rounds and it doesn't take much to see the hometown support Thomas is receiving. He was 7 years old when he attended the 2000 PGA Championship and watched Tiger Woods beat Bob May in a three-hole playoff. And though his memories are vague, the feeling he had is still palpable.

"I remember being inspired, being in awe," Thomas said this week. "Being a Tiger fan that I was, it was about as perfect of a week as I could have imagined. Not that you know what you want to do when you're 7 years old, but I had a pretty good idea that I wanted to play golf."

The galleries he was a part of 24 years ago are now his, this week perhaps more than ever. But much like they are at every tournament, the galleries are also always Spieth's. With his free-swinging style and success early in his career, Spieth's magnetism is still strong.

Aside from Woods and perhaps Rory McIlroy , Spieth and Thomas are still the most beloved household names you will hear called out at any tournament.

Jordan. Justin. Spieth. JT. Their names all roll off the golf fan's tongue, casual or die-hard, quite easily. These days, the noise that surrounds them, though, is more of a reminder of what was then than what is now.

Once the two began winning tournaments and majors early in their careers, golf fans flocked to crown them the next great thing. But where it might have seemed that both Spieth and Thomas were ready to take over the sport in the 2010s, the reality over the past five years has been more complicated. Success in sports is almost never linear, and Thomas and Spieth have been firsthand witnesses to that.

Over the past two years, Spieth and Thomas have shown momentary flashes of past greatness -- be it single rounds or even performances at a tournament (see: Spieth at the 2023 Masters), but by and large, come Sunday they haven't made much noise.

To say that their careers are past their prime would not be accurate. But Spieth and Thomas are in their 30s now. The boyish faces might not have fully disappeared, but their games have evolved, hit obstacles and look vastly different than they did when the two burst onto the scene.

As another major championship arrives, golf's former phenoms find themselves in a unique place. They are no longer the new, most exciting thing in golf and have not become the dominant stars they once were expected to be.

Even though they've both won tournaments in the past two years, both seem as far removed from their peaks as ever. At Valhalla this week, both will continue to search for a way back to the top of the sport.

Spieth, for his part, arrives needing a PGA title to complete the Grand Slam, but with his game far from major championship form. Thomas is returning to the place where it all began hoping for a storybook week. Can either of them win another major, not just now but ever?

IT'S EASY TO forget that Spieth has been doing this for a while. His first major appearance came in 2012 as a 19-year-old amateur. Now he has 16-year-olds who once asked him for an autograph as a little kid making their PGA Tour debut.

From 2014 to 2017, Spieth won 10 times on tour, including three majors. He has won only twice since and hasn't won a tournament in more than two years. And when it comes to majors, Spieth hasn't just failed to win one since 2017 -- he has three missed cuts over the past nine majors, the same amount of missed cuts he had in his previous 28 major appearances.

As his career has progressed, Spieth has gone through swing and coaching changes, and his peak years are starting to look more and more like aberrations than what they felt like at the time: harbingers of further greatness to come.

At Wells Fargo last week, Spieth said he was trying to hit the reset button after not having the year he envisioned. After getting "burnt out" trying to find stuff, Spieth wanted to clear his head. This week at Valhalla, he admitted to wanting to force things at times, and how that has gotten him in more trouble than the flaws in his game could.

"I try and force it because I haven't had the results I've wanted," Spieth said. "I'm not very good at being patient, but that's kind of what I have to be."

Thomas' patience has been equally tested over the past four years. From 2017 to 2020, he won 12 times. He has won twice since, but unlike Spieth, those two tournaments are the Players and the 2022 PGA Championship. However, 2023 was one of Thomas' worst seasons, as he missed the cut at three of the four majors.

"I think I took for granted how good I did that there for a couple years," Thomas said last week at Wells Fargo. "I just would accidentally find myself in contention in tournaments way more often by not forcing the issue or not making things harder than it needed to be."

This season, both players have made strides in certain aspects of their games -- Spieth is driving the ball better than he has in seven years (15th on tour), while Thomas' approach game is back to being one of the best in the world. But each of them also has an Achilles' heel.

Thomas' putting has continued to regress over the past few years and is now at rock bottom. This season, he ranks 150th on tour in strokes gained: putting.

For Spieth, the problem is slightly more worrisome. When he was on top of the golf world in the mid-2010s, his ballstriking and approach play was the fuel that powered his winning. Now, Spieth has regressed so much in that area that he ranks 135th in strokes gained: approach this season.

Listening to Spieth and Thomas talk through their struggles is fascinating in its own right. Both feel like they are right there, not far from success, just needing a couple of holes, a round or two -- even just one aspect of their game -- to turn in their favor and they could be hoisting trophies once again.

Although their games have evolved, and worsened in some cases, their self-belief remains as high as any professional athlete's. It's part of their DNA.

"I feel like I'm playing well. I feel like I haven't necessarily gotten as much out of my golf as I feel like I've been playing, which can be frustrating at times," Thomas said this week. "I finally feel like at least this year I know I've been playing well enough to win. It's just a matter of doing it. I'm sure there's kind of anywhere from 10 to 20 people each week that probably play well enough to win, it's just there's only one that takes advantage the most and does all the right things, and I just haven't been that person this year, and hopefully it happens sooner rather than later."

"I stand by what I've kind of said a little bit this year, like I feel like my mechanics are more sound than they have been in a long time. I feel like I'm driving the ball better maybe than I've ever driven the golf ball. I feel like I'm playing better than my results," Spieth said. "It's just kind of been a couple shots here or there where I'm either playing the wrong shot or I took out too much club or not enough club, and it's just really costly mistakes at wrong times."

Both players seem to lean on the fact that their games feel good at the moment, or that they are making things harder than they need to for themselves. But the reality is that consistency is the hallmark of any golfer who has enjoyed success throughout their career. Neither Spieth nor Thomas seems to employ that consistency.

NO ONE PUTS more pressure on Justin Thomas than Justin Thomas, and he knows it. That doesn't make things any easier, however.

"It's tough. It's a lot harder than improving your wedge game," Thomas said. "I think at least I've learned that you can't just want it to get better and it magically gets better. It's one of those things you can't just flip the switch, and I think all the greats ... that's what they did better than anybody else. They stayed in the moment and processed better than anybody, and they also can't explain how they do it because it's just all they know."

Spieth, for his own part, has also recently been dealing with a different kind of pressure, given his position on the tour policy board.

If there's any sign of the changing of the times in Spieth's career, it's this: He now gets as many questions about the tour's future and the negotiations of a deal with the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia as he does about his game. It's impossible to quantify how, if at all, that has affected Spieth -- who joined the policy board last year -- but it has certainly brought a different kind of pressure.

If patience is a trait Thomas and Spieth are trying to rely on, then having that ability to perform and stay within themselves under said pressure is one they're constantly searching for. No one embodies that better right now than Scottie Scheffler , and Thomas and Spieth can't help but envy the approach that has fueled his recent run.

"I play a decent amount of rounds with him here in town. I'm constantly seeing it and trying to beat him at home, and when he's playing better than I am, it sucks," Spieth said. "I don't enjoy it when I'm side by side because there were however many years of our life it wasn't that way."

"I look at Scottie and how he plays, and I think he does that better than anybody in the world," Thomas said. "And not only is his golf unbelievable, but that I think has a lot to do with how well he plays because he just stays in his own world and stays in his process no matter what's going on. He trusts in his ability, that kind of thing. So that's what I'm continuing to work toward for myself."

The gap Scheffler has created between him and his peers feels as wide as ever. For players like Thomas and Spieth, Scheffler's dominance also serves to highlight not exactly how far they've fallen from their peaks but rather how much more they now have to do to be able not just to beat a player like Scheffler -- and all the young talent that's coming up behind him -- but to simply compete.

"It's kind of the first time I've ever looked at somebody younger than me and I've driven inspiration, like, I am inspired by what he is doing," Spieth said. "It makes me want to go out and get better."

Once upon a time, the golf world believed Thomas would continue to win at a high clip and Spieth's ceiling could be the highest since Woods'. Now, all these years later, the external belief may have waned, but whether it is a chance to complete the Grand Slam or to win a hometown major, the two players at the center of it all are not lacking conviction.

"I just have to kind of keep trusting what I'm doing," Thomas said, "and understand that I'm working on all the right things and know that it will happen."

Said Spieth: "I have nothing in my way of being able to make that happen but my own self. I've got enough. I believe in my ceiling, and I believe my ceiling is as high as anybody's."

Spieth and Thomas will forever be linked in golf history, but at this moment, they are bound by this: They are not searching for a way back to their glory days. Instead, they're trying to hold on to the belief that they can create new ones.

2024 Charles Schwab Challenge odds, picks, field, predictions: Golf expert fading Jordan Spieth at Colonial

Sia nejad reveals his charles schwab challenge 2024 picks, props and sleepers for this week's pga tour event at colonial country club.

jordan-spieth-usatsi-pga.jpg

A tight competition is expected as the PGA Tour season continues with the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge, beginning Thursday at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas. Three of the last four editions of the tournament needed a playoff to decide the winner, with Emiliano Grillo recording a birdie on the second playoff hole to defeat Adam Schenk in 2023. Scottie Scheffler lost to Sam Burns in a playoff the previous season and Daniel Berger was victorious in 2020 after Collin Morikawa missed a short putt on the first playoff hole. In 2021, Jason Kokrak finished two strokes better than Jordan Spieth to win the Charles Schwab Challenge.

Scheffler, who has won four of his last six starts, is the overwhelming +300 favorite in the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge odds. Morikawa is the second choice at +1400 and Spieth, the 2016 champion, is +1800. Max Homa is next at +2200, while Tony Finau rounds out the top five choices in the Charles Schwab Challenge 2024 field at +3300. Before locking in any 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge picks,  you need to see the PGA Tour predictions and best bets from golf betting and fantasy expert Sia Nejad .

Nejad specializes in betting and DFS in golf, among other sports. He's had incredible success in the outright and first-round leader markets and in betting head-to-head matchups. He also has been solid with his head-to-head matchups since last year's Charles Schwab Challenge, going 39-27-2 and returning 8.31 units over that span. That's a $831 profit for $100 bettors since May 2023.

Nejad also nailed 75-1 longshot Wyndham Clark as the outright winner at the Wells Fargo Championship. In 2023, SportsLine debuted "The Early Wedge," and in the first three months of the show, he hit two first-round leaders and three outright winners.

Now, Nejad has focused his attention on the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge field and has locked in his best bets, top sleepers and favorites to avoid. See who they are at SportsLine .

Top 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge expert picks

One surprise: Nejad is fading Jordan Spieth, even though he is one of the favorites at +1800. The 2015 PGA Player of the Year has done quite well in the Charles Schwab Challenge over his career, winning the tournament in 2016 and posting three runner-up finishes - most recently in 2021. Spieth has recorded eight top-10 finishes in 11 appearances in the tournament.

But the 30-year-old native of Dallas uncharacteristically struggled in this event last year, as he failed to make the cut. He got off to a strong start this season as he finished third in the Sentry. However, things haven't gone very well for Spieth since then as he missed the cut four times, finished 29th or worse on four occasions, and was disqualified once while posting only two top-10s over his next 12 events.

Instead, Nejad is high on the chances of Collin Morikawa, who is listed at +1400. The 27-year-old Californian has yet to record a victory in 2024 but is coming off his third top-five finish of the season, as he tied for fourth place at the PGA Championship last weekend. Morikawa also performed well at the first major of the year, finishing even with Max Homa and Tommy Fleetwood for third at the Masters last month.

Ranked first on the PGA Tour this year in driving accuracy percentage (78.74%), Morikawa is the only golfer with top-five finishes in both majors and has been 23rd or better in each of his last five starts overall. He also began 2024 by tying for fifth place in The Sentry and has eight top-25s in 12 events this season. Morikawa is seeking his seventh career victory on the PGA Tour and first since finishing six strokes ahead of both Beau Hossler and Eric Cole in the Zozo Championship last October.  See which other golfers to back at SportsLine .

How to make 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge picks

Nejad has locked in his best bets for the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge and is backing several longshots, including one that is priced at more than +10000. This player "can do enough with the putter to potentially spike" and is a longshot who could surprise. You can see Nejad's PGA Tour picks only at SportsLine .

So which players should you target or avoid for the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge, and which player in the Charles Schwab Challenge 2024 field could bring a huge payday at more than +10000? Scottie Scheffler, Jordan Spieth move into contention at Charles Schwab Challenge

S cottie Scheffler (-3, 65) and Jordan Spieth (-2, 67) moved into contention at the Charles Schwab Challenge on Friday with strong second rounds at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, TX.

Davis Riley (-10, 64), Hayden Buckley (-7, 66), Sungjae-Im (-6, 64), and Keegan Bradley (-6, 66) top the leaderboard.

Spieth and Scheffler, both metroplex residents, are hungry for home cooking, for vastly different reasons.

Earlier this month, Spieth admitted his game needed a “reset”. He downplayed his own career Grand Slam chances heading into the PGA Championship at Valhalla, where he finished T43. Spieth has three top-10s in 2024 — none since the Valero Texas Open (T9) in April. He’s battling a golf /story/_/id/40010916/jordan-spieth-says-wrist-injury-come-go-thing" rel="noopener">wrist injury.

After shooting a meh 1-over 71 in the opening round, Spieth — the 2016 champion at Colonial — tore up his first nine on Friday. He fired a 5-under 30, largely thanks to a hot putter. He birdied five of the first six holes, sinking putts of 24 feet (par-4 10th) and 40 feet (par-4 12th).

He cooled off, posting a 2-over over his last 12 holes. Still, he’s firmly in the mix for his first win on the PGA Tour since 2022 RBC Heritage, almost exactly three years ago.

Meanwhile, life-altering off-course developments still appear to be the only thing to throw off Scheffler’s golf — and only slightly.

The new dad entered Colonial having won four of his last six PGA Tour starts, with the exceptions being a runner-up (Valero) and T8 at the PGA, despite getting arrested before his second round. We might be talking Grand Slam if not for a moving day 73 .

About two hours before Scheffler’s Round 1 at Colonial got underway, the Louisville Metro Police Department announced that the arresting offer, Detective Bryan Gillis, was internally disciplined for not having his bodycam turned on. The LMPD released two videos of the ordeal, which appear to dispute Gillis’ police report. The charges, including second-degree felony assault, were not dropped. (Scheffler has not spoken to the media. His attorney said the developments do not impact  their approach. Also on Thursday, Scheffler committed to the Memorial, which begins on June 6, three days after his arraignment.)

Scheffler’s rickety first round at the Charles Schwab included his first triple-bogey of 2024. The 2-over 72 was arguably his worst round on the PGA Tour since August.

The 27-year-old bounced back on Friday. Scheffler moseyed to a bogey-free 5-under — his 36th round of 65 or better on the PGA Tour since 2021, per the Athletic. Starting on the back nine, Scheffler shook off early frustration with four straight birdies, beginning on the par-4 18th.

He finished things off with a recognizable chip-in to save par on No. 18.

Despite trailing by seven strokes, Scheffler is the co-favorite ( +450 on FanDuel ) to win the golf tournament.

What to know from Xander Schauffele's PGA Championship win

By drilling a clutch 6-foot birdie putt on the final hole, Schauffele held off Bryson DeChambeau by one stroke to win his first career major championship. Schauffele’s score of 21-under-par is the lowest in men’s major history, and his 25 birdies tie the most ever by a player in a PGA Championship. Schauffele is the first player in history to make 25 or more birdies in multiple majors in his career, having done so previously at the 2019 Masters.

Wild to think a year ago this week at Oak Hill was basically the debut of this latest iteration of Bryson DeChambeau . Slimmed down. Talking about losing 18 pounds in 24 days — all water weight. A new caddie — one who had left the business to pursue other ventures.

I remember talking to Greg Bodine that week and him speaking about DeChambeau's evolution, most interestingly that he could now "dial it back and still swing his driver 10 miles per hour faster than he ever did five or six years ago".

It was the notion that DeChambeau was coming to combine both his original talent and his massive size/strength gains to find a happy medium. Now here we are.

DeChambeau: 'I didn’t take care of it earlier in the week'

DeChambeau: 'I didn’t take care of it earlier in the week'

You can hear the sense of regret in Bryson DeChambeau 's words. Here's what he had to say, speaking to Sky Sports after missing out on a PGA Championship playoff:

💬 “I didn’t have my best ball-striking week. I wasn’t too comfortable. So I have a little bit to work on there. But I’m proud of the way I fought today. My birdie on the 10th ignited the fire and I showed resilience.

“I thought the (number) might be good enough. Weird stuff can happen on the 18th. But I didn’t take care of it earlier in the week.

“I’m happy with my week but I want to win.”

Xander Schauffele wins PGA Championship for first career major victory

Xander Schauffele wins PGA Championship for first career major victory

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Xander Schauffele can finally remove the albatross from around his neck. Schauffele, golf’s beacon of unrewarded consistency, won the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club on Sunday for his first career major victory.

He did it in one of the more memorable ways possible, sinking a six-foot birdie putt on 18 with the entirety of the crowd watching. After watching the ball circle the hole before finally dropping in to get Schauffele to 21-under-par, one stroke ahead of Bryson DeChambeau, he threw both arms into the air and let out perhaps the biggest smile of his career.

Starting the day in a loaded and crowded leaderboard full of top players, Schauffele shared the lead with Collin Morikawa, only adding more pressure to end his major woes. Schauffele failed to win starting in three final groups already this spring. Twenty times he’d finished in the top 20 of a major without a win. Each impressive week was also just another bitter-sweet reminder of not being good enough to win the trophy at the end.

But in a low-scoring week, Schauffele opened with a major-record 62 and finished with a 65 to properly establish himself as one of golf’s best players. He led or co-led after every round.

Here's what he said to CBS after getting his hands on the silverware:

💬 “I was kind of emotional after the putt lipped in. It’s been a while since I won and really, I just kept saying I needed to stay in my lane. That was hard all day but I stayed focused. I had some weird breaks coming into the house but we’re here now.

“I would be less of a patient person if that putt didn’t lip in! I didn’t want to go into a playoff with Bryson. We would probably have played 18!

“My Mum is back at home in San Diego and my Dad is in Hawaii. I just spoke to him. I had to hang-up pretty quickly because he was starting to make me cry. He was sat on the phone bawling. Everyone I have here makes me feel pretty special. I was pleased to do this for my team.”

The Wanamaker Trophy looks good on you, Xander.

A fleeting thought for DeChambeau

A fleeting thought for DeChambeau

Obviously no-one things of anyone other than the winner at this point. But it's hard not to feel for Bryson DeChambeau for a moment.

The adrenaline of his birdie on 18, the minutes of practicing for a playoff or victory that might come... And then doesn't.

Still, this is Xander Schauffele's moment, and he is about to get his hands on the Wanamaker Trophy.

Schauffele matches his best when it mattered

Schauffele matches his best when it mattered

Xander Schauffele ’s final-round 65 matches the lowest of his major championship career.

He twice closed with 65 at the 2021 Open and 2017 Open, but in both came from way down the board to finish T26 and T20.

Today, he made it count.

That's for the doubters

That's for the doubters

I must admit, I wasn't sure that putt was going to drop. But it did.

In fairness, a lot of people weren't sure Xander Schauffele were going to see today out either. But he did.

That record-equalling 62 on Thursday proved to be just the start. What a PGA Championship and what a first major for the 30-year-old.

Want to get a feel for Xander Schauffele's makeup? How he approaches his place in the game? During a long chat at the Presidents Cup last year , he was asked about why he seems to hold back so much publicly.

“I feel prone to hermit because it’s easier to just focus on the golf,” Schauffele said. “It’s a safe space — hermitting is a safe space. Golf is such a weird game, you know? It’s so slow. Quiet. Non-contact. It makes it so much easier to not go scorched earth. If I just said, screw it, and said what I wanted all the time? No. As soon as you put yourself out there, let the bad things in, getting your mind going somewhere else, it’ll tear you apart. You’ve seen it happen to golfers.

“Instead, I just go at what I see as the agreeable rout,” he continued. “Just sort of agree with everything being said by other top players. Go along. Everyone falls into categories and I just try to stay on my little peninsula.”

SCHAUFFELE WINS THE PGA CHAMPIONSHIP!

SCHAUFFELE WINS THE PGA CHAMPIONSHIP!

1: Xander SCHAUFFELE (-21) 65

The birdie putt wipes its feet and rolls round the rim before dropping in the hole for 6ft...

Something to consider as it comes down to the 18th

Something to consider as it comes down to the 18th

As Xander Schauffele walks up the 18th fairway needing a birdie to win and a par to force a playoff with Bryson DeChambeau, consider that the par-5 hole is playing as the easiest hole on the course today (4.554 average score).

There have been two eagles, 40 birdies, 23 pars, eight bogeys and one "other."

Schauffele will have the putt to win it

Schauffele will have the putt to win it

That's a wonderful chip and run from Schauffle, which checks up short of the hole and leaves a tempter for the birdie that wins the championship.

DeChambeau returns to his playoff practice. Just in case.

Schauffle setting up a major-winning finish

Schauffle setting up a major-winning finish

Here we go. Schauffele is down in two at the par-five 18th after a super second shot.

Surely there's a PGA-winning birdie on the cards here...

Theegala holes out in style

T12: Sahith THEEGALA (-12) 73

It's not been the day Theegala was hoping for, but rolling in a 20-footer on 18 for a birdie may well add a bit of good feeling as he heads home.

Shane Lowry (-14) also wraps up on 18. He does it with a par to finish with 70 and tied-fifth for the championship.

Bryson out to prepare

Off to the practice range heads Bryson DeChambeau , as he waits to hear about what Xander Schauffele manages on the 18th.

A second major, a last-gasp defeat or a playoff... It's all possible from here.

More than anything, DeChambeau will be hoping to settle a bit after the adrenaline of his birdie on 18 moments ago.

Hovland's bogey ends streak

Hovland's bogey ends streak

Viktor Hovland went the entire weekend without a bogey, then took a six on the par-5 18th on Sunday.

As if the 16th at Oak Hill wasn't tough enough to stomach — leaving his approach in the fairway bunker in a one-on-one matchup versus Brooks Koepka — this will sit even worse.

Consider: He very well could've become only the third major champion over the last 30 years to go bogey-free over the final two rounds. Instead, it's more regret.

How it works: Each week, our experts from PGATOUR.COM will make their selections in PGA TOUR Fantasy Golf. Aside from the experts below, Golfbet Insider Rob Bolton breaks down the field at the PGA Championship in this week's edition of Power Rankings .

Betting picks

WILL GRAY (Lead, Fantasy & Betting)

  • Winner: Harris English (+3300) – English has been hit-or-miss at Colonial but I’m willing to roll the dice given his three top-20s here, including a 2016 runner-up, and his standing as one of the best putters on TOUR (eighth in SG: Putting this season).
  • Top 10: Tony Finau (+250) – I saw just enough form from Finau last week at the PGA to go back to the well, especially on a course where he has a pair of top-5s and four top-20s since 2015.
  • Longshot: Justin Rose (+6000) – The Englishman blitzed Colonial en route to victory back in 2017 and added three top-20s since. Now he’s coming off a T6 finish at Valhalla with a game that’s clearly in form.
  • Head-to-Head (H2H): Austin Eckroat (+100) over Andrew Putnam – Eckroat finished T16 in his Colonial debut last year and has leveled up since, earning his first TOUR win and banking three top-20s in his last four starts including the PGA.

BEN EVERILL (Senior writer, Fantasy & Betting)

  • Winner: Tony Finau (+2800) – Finau was on the periphery of contention throughout the week at Valhalla, which is where I’m looking for my winner to come from this week. We might be sleeping on Morikawa, much like many of us did with Schauffele after his loss, but the value on the odds board lies here. Four top 25s here in last five years including a runner-up.
  • Top 10: Max Homa (+200) – Homa finished inside the top-10 at Colonial a year ago, and I think he can do the same again. In fact, I think he’s a good chance to snatch a victory. Another player who was on the periphery of contention at the PGA, his form is trending in the right direction.
  • Longshots: Billy Horschel (+5000) – Keeping the trend of players rounding into form last week without actually expelling excess energy is Horschel. Returned to the winners circle recently in Punta Cana and rocketed home last week into the top 10. Plus money for a top-20 looks decent despite only fair results at Colonial in the past.
  • H2H: Austin Eckroat (+100) over Andrew Putnam – I am very fearful having the same H2H as Will Gray, but I share his sentiments on Eckroat being on a new level this season. Putnam does enjoy Colonial but this appears a chance to get plus money on what at worst is a coin flip match up and at best is books missing Eckroat’s rise.

CHRIS BREECE (Senior content manager, Golfbet)

  • Winner: Denny McCarthy (+5000) – With two finishes in the top six recently (including a playoff loss) McCarthy is showing he’s ready to take the next step in his career; becoming a PGA TOUR winner. I take the missed cut at the PGA as a positive. He’ll have more in the tank.
  • Top 10: Brian Harman (+320) – Our key stat last week was driving. The closer you got to the green the less important the stats were. Colonial is the opposite. Harman’s game gets better the closer he gets to the green.
  • Longshot: Tom Hoge (+5000) – He has shown signs of coming around the last two weeks. He’s second on TOUR in S.G. Approach, our big metric this week.
  • H2H: Jordan Spieth (+140) over Collin Morikawa – Spieth is great here. Morikawa is due for an emotional letdown after a lot of great golf lately. The underdog value makes it even better.

MATT DELVECCHIO (Social content manager, Fantasy & Betting)

  • Winner: Collin Morikawa (+1200) – On a tear over the last two months, Morikawa hasn’t finished anything worse than T23 since the Masters. A stretch that includes two majors and two Signature Events. If Scheffler wasn’t in the field he would be a sub +1000 favorite.
  • Top 10: Tony Finau (+250) – A guy who likes Colonial and has the game for it showed up big last week at the PGA. After a big week he heads to a course he likes and finishes high.
  • Longshot: Billy Horschel (+5000) – Sneaky great week last week at the PGA which adds to a sneaky good season for Horschel. If Colonial plays hard like it did last year then I like this pick less. If it’s playing easier with less wins and softer greens, he should be able to pile on birdies and make a run.
  • H2H: Austin Eckroat over Putnam (+100) – I think the wrong guy is favorited here with Putnam laying -125 in the matchup. Eckroat has proved if he’s playing well early, he can make runs at tournaments. Give me the better player at plus money.
