History [ ]

The second ship produced under the MC90 line, the Galactic Voyager was in orbit over Mon Calamari following the attack on Mon Calamari . When New Republic Chief of State Leia Organa Solo traveled to the world to find the location of Anoth from Admiral Gial Ackbar , the pair traveled to the secret location to save young Anakin Solo from being captured by Imperial ambassador Furgan . The Galactic Voyager engaged the Imperial Dreadnaught Vendetta , which was subsequently destroyed.

The following year Admiral Ackbar chose the Galactic Voyager to be his new flagship. The vessel first traveled to Nal Hutta , as part of a mock New Republic war game designed to frighten the Hutts prior to a diplomatic visit from Chief of State Leia Organa Solo.

Upon receiving a distress call from Jedi Knight Kyp Durron , which alerted the New Republic to a new Imperial offensive, the Galactic Voyager and a task force of four Corellian Gunships headed to Yavin 4 , site of the Jedi academy and currently under siege by Imperial Admiral Daala and a substantial fleet, including the Executor -class Star Dreadnought Knight Hammer and numerous smaller Victory II -class Star Destroyers .

The ensuing engagement, the Assault on Yavin 4 , found the Galactic Voyager and her escorts outnumbered tremendously. The warship managed to knock out several Victory Star Destroyers, but it was the timely arrival of a large New Republic fleet that saved the cruiser and Ackbar from death.

Years later, during the Second Galactic Civil War , the Galactic Voyager was used as a command vessel by Admiral Cha Niathal during the Galactic Alliance ambush of the false Confederation summit at Gilatter VIII .

Disney's latest vacation experience takes hospitality out of this world and to a galaxy far, far away for an immersive, first-of-its-kind voyage aboard the brand new Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser.

Guests become passengers and heroes in their own Star Wars story as they live out a tailor-made galactic adventure at their own pace aboard the Halcyon Starcruiser. The vessel is known for its impeccable service and exotic destinations, like the bustling Black Spire Outpost on Batuu. Plus, you can finally live out your childhood dreams and wield a lightsaber in a training pod and dine on delicacies like Felucian-inspired blue shrimp.

Before Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser debuts at Walt Disney World Resort on March 1, we got an inside look at the two-night voyage aboard the Chandrila Star Line and after an exhilarating 48 hours we brought the highlights, sights and sounds back to Earth.

Storyline and characters

galactic voyager star wars

Familiar faces like Chewbacca and new characters emerge throughout the journey as the storyline spins forward.

Captain Keevan is at the helm, encouraging exploration, as cruise director Lenka Mok notifies people they can try their hand at defending the ship with operations training on the bridge, and Sammie the mechanic makes a name for himself while working on more than just systems in the engineering room. Guests also get to enjoy the music stylings of intergalactic superstar Gaya and meet her charismatic manager, Raithe Cole, who has his eyes on more than the stage throughout the voyage.

Guests become characters and legacy cast members can become allies thanks to the creative development from Lucasfilm Vice President and Executive Creative Director Doug Chiang and Walt Disney Imagineering Producer Travis Finstein.

"We are seeing people play with our characters as if they are action figures in a big Star Wars play set. They get their own personal interaction with them for extended periods of time and run around the ship with these characters leading them on missions," Finstein told "GMA." "They participate in Star Wars in a scale that they have never had a chance to do before. If you're a Star Wars fan you are going to experience Star Wars in a new way and it's very exciting."

As the storyline unfolds, we meet Lieutenant Croy of the First Order and his stormtroopers when they board the ship to investigate suspicious Resistance activity.

Toward the climax of the final night, without giving away any spoilers, guests are stunned by an interaction with a handful of iconic characters as an intense battle unfolds.

"It's really a lot of fun," Chiang added, "anything Star Wars for me, but this level of immersion is unlike anything I've ever done."

Lightsaber training and more!

Lightsaber training was no doubt the most-buzzed-about activity and for good reason.

The Saja, who trains a group of about 15 passengers at a time, leads you in the pod and lines you up in rows before powering up the electric blue weapon.

Upon instruction, students square up and ground their ready stance holding the base of the lightsaber at their body's center, pushing the button to illuminate the shaft and following a guided laser that sends a low-frequency buzz through your grip as you connect the weapon to the force.

Excursion to Black Spire Outpost on Batuu at Galaxy's Edge

Early on the second day, passengers are invited onto luxurious private transport shuttles to de-board and explore the galaxy's Outer Rim. At this point in each passenger's journey, their interactions have led to curated communications on their datapad to attempt missions for the characters they are helping while exploring the outpost.

A private reservation can be set up for Halcyon guests at the infamous Oga's Cantina, where I made friends with a chemist in order to get some pertinent information back to the ship for my own storyline's mission. The brightly colored, foaming, fizzing and bubbling beverages are a welcome libation break at this point in the planetside adventure and the perfect fuel before enjoying activities like hacking droids and running covert ops for either the dark side or the Resistance.

galactic voyager star wars

Guests enjoy a well-appointed pod complete with stunning viewports that overlook the galaxy. The room we stayed in, but really only relaxed in to shower and sleep, had the Earth's equivalent of a king-size bed and two bunk pods. The sleek design was complete with modern functionality like ports for datapad charging and even an in-room digital logistics droid who goes by D3-09 and acts as a catalyst for each individual's daily story to continue with helpful information. By the end, she also became a confidant and friend who I was sad to say goodbye to.

As for off-ship, the special transport shuttle is reminiscent of a luxury bus-like liner and takes less than a 10-minute blast to planet where you are greeted by a private concierge service with cold water, charging ports and offered a direct contact to drop off any goods secured along the excursion, so if you purchase a porg plushy toy or local garments, you can leave them safely with the crew who will free your hands and take it back to the ship. Before departing Batuu, where temperatures can run hot, the crew offers chilled, wet towels and more beverages while waiting for your pod departure.

Specialty Magic Band

The specialty Magic Band that is worn throughout the voyage, available exclusively to passengers of the Halcyon cruise, also gives you access to information pads on ship, unlocks rooms and helps save and scan pivotal information specific to your personal adventure that sends feedback to your profile.

Additionally, it is preloaded with lightning lane passes for the two highly popular rides on Galaxy's Edge -- Rise of the Resistance and Smuggler's Run.

Food and drinks

The imaginative dining program developed especially for this experience plates up dishes with familiar tastes but unexpected textures, colors and ingredient names to further deepen the immersion of your galactic voyage.

Similar to an Earth-bound cruise, all-you-can-eat breakfast and lunch buffets are available inside the sleek Crown of Corellia Dining Room during the day, but then each night of the voyage it transforms to serve diners a lavish multicourse, table-service menu of both otherworldly and familiar origins.

Night one boasts dinner and a show where I enjoyed a seat at the captain's table in the center of the sunken seating area with an interactive live performance from Gaya -- the Twi'lek musical superstar who moves throughout the room singing her greatest and new hits. The second night offers a Taste Around the Galaxy experience with each course that hails from a different planet, including the highly buzzed about blue crustacean, Felucian shrimp.

galactic voyager star wars

Guests looking for a late-night libation or a game of Sabaac can snag a seat in the Sublight Lounge for drinks like the Fiery Mustafarian complete with lava extract and smokey mezcal or a Hoth Icebreaker made with lemon foam inspired by the icy desolate planet.

Exclusive merchandise

A one-of-a-kind Chandrila Collection boutique on board offers an extensive selection of never-before-seen merchandise to enhance the role-play vacation experience. The shop has a sweeping assortment of apparel and accessories for purchase from Lekku head tails, trading pins with the ship's logo and authentic apparel to home goods, hats and backpacks.

The end of an era: the final voyage of disney’s ‘star wars’ galactic starcruiser comes to an end.

Posted by: Eva Miller September 30, 2023

star wars galactic starcruiser disney world immersive hotel

Today likely was a tearful one for those finishing their voyage on the Galactic Starcruiser.

When the  Star Wars:  Galactic Starcruiser opened on March 1, 2022, Disney set out to do something that was unlike anything ever done before. This one-of-a-kind immersive experience promises to transport Guests to a galaxy far, far away, offering them the chance to live out their Star Wars fantasies. While no one doubts that the Starcruiser delivered in this way, other factors, including the hotel’s steep price, ultimately led to the announcement of its closure. Today, on September 30, the final voyage of the Galactic Starcruiser will be completed.

An Experience Like Never Before

The concept of the Star Wars:  Galactic Starcruiser was born out of the success of Disney’s Star Wars : Galaxy’s Edge, an immersive land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Filled with heart-pounding attractions and detailed Star Wars theming, the land became an instant hit with fans since its opening in May 2019. The Walt Disney Company saw an opportunity to take the Star Wars experience to new heights with a boutique hotel offering an utterly immersive entertainment experience.

The Galactic Starcruiser, which resembles a massive starship, promised a two-night adventure like no other. Guests would embark on a “voyage” rather than a traditional hotel stay. Upon arrival, they would be ushered into a Launch Pod that would transport them to the Halcyon, the starcruiser itself. Once onboard, they would become active participants in their very own Star Wars story, interacting with characters, exploring the ship, and even learning the ways of the Force.

However, not all was perfect with the ship’s inception.

Immersive Entertainment Comes at a Price…

The major problem with the Galactic Starcruiser was the high prices that were associated with it. Building., upkeeping, and employing the staff of the Starcruiser cost a pretty penny for Disney. With only a couple hundred Guests staying there at a time, the price per Guest ended up becoming very high. Guests were paying around $5,000 for only a two-night stay, a price most fans could not justify.

Now, that final two-night voyage has returned for good. The final voyage, which was sold out, took off on September 28. It can be expected that this voyage was incredibly emotional for both the fans and the Cast Members on it. Even though it wasn’t a success, the impact that the  Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser made will live on past its closure.

A final congrats to the amazing Cast Members responsible for making Starcruiser one of Walt Disney World’s most highly rated experiences in terms of guest satisfaction ratings. 👏🫡 pic.twitter.com/1Hha527Yqi — Scott Gustin (@ScottGustin) September 30, 2023

As the Galactic Starcruiser closes, fans can’t help but wonder what new adventures await them in the future. The Walt Disney Company is known for constantly innovating and creating new and exciting experiences for its Guests. Only time will tell what is to come for the building that once was the Galactic Starcruiser Star Wars hotel.

A look aboard Disney’s $6,000 per stay, immersive Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel

A galaxy far, far away gets a whole lot closer.

By Chaim Gartenberg

Galactic Starcruiser invites guests to live in the Star Wars universe for a two-day trip.

I walked into Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser prepared to pretend. I was going to be Ch’aim Garteenbar, a reformed smuggler celebrating going straight with a luxurious cruise trip on the Halcyon, pride of Chandrila Star Line.

Unfortunately, due to the compressed nature of the media preview, I spent most of my time aboard Disney’s biggest bet in years in my usual guise of “Chaim Gartenberg, reporter.” Part hotel, part LARP, part theme park, Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser wants to be nothing less than the ultimate Star Wars experience, one that sucks you into a living, breathing sci-fi story unfolding around you — and for the price that Disney is placing on it, one that has a lot of expectations to live up to.

The main Atrium of the Halcyon and what you’ll see when you first step on board.

To be extremely clear from the start: this is not a review of the full Galactic Starcruiser experience. The media preview I attended was a four-hour curated “sampler platter” of what guests will get over a two-day stay. I didn’t get to sleep at the hotel, and my time “on board” was focused on seeing the major set pieces and interactive components in group settings instead of the choice-based, smaller storylines that guests will get to build out over the full two-day trip.

As such, this is not an assessment of whether the whole package is worth the eye-watering $4,809 starting price that Disney is charging for a Galactic Starcruiser stay. ( The exorbitant price tag was never far from my mind when I was touring the “ship,” though.)

While I can’t tell you everything about the minute-to-minute details of the branching, interactive storylines that Galactic Starcruiser is putting so much emphasis on, I did get to travel aboard the Halcyon and see some of the greatest hits and unique elements of the experience.

galactic voyager star wars

Galactic Starcruiser, much like Galaxy’s Edge before it, isn’t just a creation for Disney theme parks. The modern desire to connect every element of media and storytelling together is a part of the Galactic Starcruiser experience, and Disney is already working to seed the luxury liner across decades of Star Wars history.

The Halcyon plays a role in the ongoing High Republic multimedia storyline of books ; there’s already a comic book series that explains the backstory and shows iconic characters like Anakin Skywalker, Padme Amidala, and Lando Calrissian’s stays aboard the ship. There’s also the recently announced novel The Princess and the Scoundrel , which will reveal the untold story of Han and Leia’s honeymoon on the Halcyon. At the current rate of Galactic Starcruiser tie-ins, I’d put even odds on the ship appearing in an episode of a Disney Plus show before the year is out.

galactic voyager star wars

Establishing the Halcyon as a key part of Star Wars lore isn’t just Disney not-so-subtly building hype and marketing for its pricey hotel, though. It’s a foundation for a key part of the sales pitch to guests. You don’t just get to live in a Star Wars - ish story for a day or two; your time aboard the Halcyon is part of the Star Wars saga — as much a part of canon as any of the movies, video games, or books.

You’re participating in events but never really shaping them

That idea of living in an interactive hotel experience has seen Galactic Starcruiser draw a lot of comparisons to Westworld , the eponymous theme park from the HBO series. The two have a lot in common: a promise of total immersion in a fictional world (complete with factions and costumes), the idea that guests can forge their own stories within the setting, and the sky-high price tag that limits attendance to guests with exceptionally deep pockets. Galactic Starcruiser even has its own AI companions and roving robots (although they’re far less murderous than those in Westworld’s.)

But Westworld’s impossible park promises a place where you can do anything or be anyone in the Wild West. Galactic Starcruiser puts more emphasis on “choice” over “agency.” A character can bring you to help sabotage the engine or rescue Chewbacca, but you won’t be the one making those decisions. Guests will have some control over which storylines they participate in and which side they’re on, but you’re still just a side character; you’re participating in events but never really shaping them.

galactic voyager star wars

The Galactic Starcruiser experience starts at a spaceport where you’ll ride a transport pod up to the Halcyon proper — the lines between “hotel” and “ride” blurring together from the start.

Exiting the pod takes you to the Atrium, the Halcyon’s “lobby,” where you’ll run straight into guests and cast members alike milling around, ready to draw you into the plot. In quick succession, I met Gaya (the visiting galactic pop star), her manager Raithe Kole, an aspiring musician named Sandro Alimander (who, like me, was on his first trip off-planet), and the ship’s captain Riyola Keevan. Everyone had a story and, more importantly, wanted to try to involve me in it. Despite the elaborate costumes and setting, it still threw me off balance at first. I had to take a few minutes to figure out how I’d be fitting into the roleplaying.

galactic voyager star wars

In some ways, the “ship” is a little too polished and clean. At a panel, Brad Schoeneberg, Disney’s vice president of brand merchandising, said it was inspired by “taking a look at the finer side of life in Star Wars, ” like the royal halls of Naboo, and (more oddly) the luxury yacht of crime lord Dryden Vos and the problematic halls of Canto Bight. It seemed like the visual language occasionally leaned more toward the gleaming ships of Star Trek than the lived-in style that’s the hallmark of Star Wars. There’s a glossy plastic look that never quite lets you forget you’re in what’s essentially a very large, very long theme park ride.

The Halcyon is also smaller than you might expect. The main dining cabin is about the size of a medium-sized restaurant, while the atrium’s neon-soaked bar offers seating for a couple dozen people at most. (And only a single sabacc table!) There are “restricted” spaces that open up for story elements, like the cargo hold, brig, and engineering bay, but there are really only two or three main “public” spaces to spend time in outside of those plot moments.

A room at Galactic Starcruiser isn’t big, but you’re probably not going to want to spend much time there anyway.

The rooms I saw were pretty compact, too. There’s space for a bed, a slide-out table, and enclosed bunk beds built into one of the walls. It looks to have leaned too far into emulating the space-sensitive designs of an actual cruise ship. I’ve never stayed in a $2,000-per-night hotel room, but I would expect a lot more than this.

No one will mistake Galactic Starcruiser for a traditional luxury hotel by Earth standards. There’s not much in the way of normal amenities — no pools, gyms, or spas, and virtually no natural light. (There is a single outdoor space, branded the “Climate Simulator” to avoid breaking character.) Sure, you wouldn’t go to Galactic Starcruiser for a regular hotel experience, but the price still feels like a miss.

Disney is putting plenty of emphasis on the food and drink aboard (both included in the ticket price, although specialty and alcoholic drinks are not). The presentation aims to go above and beyond a standard hotel menu. Much like Pandora or Galaxy’s Edge , food features unique shapes, colors, and textures to evoke a galaxy far, far away from our own, like colorful blue shrimp (allegedly sourced from Felucia) or black lava-rock bread evoking the volcanic world of Mustafar.

At the Star Wars hotel, even the food has lore.

The Crown of Corellia Dining Room.

Each trip on Galactic Starcruiser will follow the same broad story arc. Guests are passengers aboard the 275th anniversary trip of the luxury starcruiser, the Halcyon, which is emulating its original voyage from Chandrila to Batuu. Set in between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker , the ship runs afoul of the First Order — Star Wars drama ensues.

Storylines, we’re told, will develop organically over the two-day trip, based on how players interact and react to cast members and the actions they take along the way. There are multiple branching paths, only some of which I got to take part in: smuggling a Resistance ally on board and sneaking into the engine room to reboot the ship’s systems — but there were other plots that appear at the finale event, like stealing access codes or unlocking a Jedi holocron, that weren’t in my (brief) journey. Someone else playing through a Resistance story might have seen more of those adventures, while a First Order-aligned guest would have had their own interactions to try to foil those plots.

The whole thing culminates in an action-packed live stage show finale — it wouldn’t be Star Wars without a lightsaber duel (one which includes the spectacular-looking “real” lightsaber prop the company showed off a few months ago ). “You may all be watching the same big events, but you’re not watching the same things,” said Cory Rouse, a creative director for Walt Disney Imagineering, noting that a guest who sided with the Resistance will see payoffs that might not make sense to a scoundrel character, while a First Order ally will experience the finale in yet another light.

Disney’s movie magic comes to life when Rey wields her “real” retractable lightsaber in the event’s finale.

Immersion is the name of the game here: each sign is written in both English and the fictional Aurebesh alphabet; every cast member, waiter, room service attendant, and bartender is in character the entire time; and elaborately costumed guests chat with you about their own lives to help draw you into the world. As you’d expect from a Disney park experience, there’s incredible attention to detail. All the doors on the ship are sliding, instead of on hinges, to better fit into the Star Wars universe.

But that level of theater is table stakes for Disney World. Galactic Starcruiser aims to take things a step further by actively looking to draw in guests. Visitors are encouraged to dress up in full Star Wars cosplay to inhabit the world, at least for a day or two. (Disney, of course, is happy to sell you Star Wars -themed attire if you don’t already have it.) And the key differentiator is the ability to participate in the adventure.

Disney will happily sell you any accessories or outfits you’ll need at The Chandrila Collection gift shop.

The average Star Wars movie is about two hours long. Two seasons of The Mandalorian on Disney Plus will take you about half a day. Galactic Starcruiser aims for a far bigger scope: two days’ worth of Star Wars story. That means turning a lot of the ordinary parts of your day — including eating and sleeping — that you wouldn’t find in a movie into something more special and Star Wars -y.

“[Movies] are a slice of life with all the boring cuts part out,” Rouse told The Verge . “Whenever we’re trying to build a world like this, we actually want you to have all of the extra — what we call the magical mundane,” turning those “boring parts” into something more. That might be a comment from your (in-character) server at the bar about the ongoings aboard the ship or a glimpse of a character like Rey gesturing at you from around a corner to help her with a mission.

“Do you want to play Star Wars?”

“What they’re really asking you is ‘Do you want to play Star Wars?’” Rouse says.

The word that Disney uses for most of Galactic Starcruiser’s more unique aspects is an “invitation.” As Ann Morrow Johnson, executive producer and creative director at Walt Disney Imagineering, noted in a press panel, “I think so much of this experience lives in these smaller subtler moments where these characters are existing, they’re living their lives, and they’re inviting you to come and play with them, if you want to.”

Playing some sabacc at the Sublight Lounge bar.

At one point in our abridged trip, a few members of my group were pulled aside by a crew member to assist in a jailbreak for a captured Resistance member. Together, we hacked a terminal, passed the brig override code across a room in a short game of telephone, and unlocked the door so that they could escape. Presumably, I could have decided not to help if I wanted to aid the First Order instead.

Galactic Starcruiser asks a lot of its guests. You’re basically diving into a giant improv exercise with dozens of strangers. And what you’ll get out of the experience is largely what you put in. In my short time there, it was hard to shake the feeling that I was just going through the motions for the particular story track my group was assigned. Maybe the smaller groups, added time, additional context, and more gradual pace of storytelling that the full experience has help make the process feel more organic. But that guided nature that slots you into specific roles is at least part of the point.

Galactic Starcruiser asks a lot of its guests

According to Sara Thacher, a senior R&D Imagineer and the creative director behind all the branching narrative choices on board, Galactic Starcruiser is intended so that “you can show up and not have a character, not have to know any lines, not have to know anything about the story” and still have a good time. She described it almost like a traditional video game: players fall into a role from the game, and they can make choices but still have the framework and guidance they need to have fun. My short time on board didn’t really give me the chance to make those decisions for myself, however.

Disney also wants to make sure guests are able to understand what choices they’re making: Thacher explained that an important goal is making sure that when you make a decision (to help someone or not), it’ll be clear what the broader outcome is: “We want you to know, ‘Yes, this means if I do this, I’m helping the Resistance,’ and presenting those choices as clearly as we can and really, as often as we can, as you as you encounter different pieces of the story, different pieces of the narrative.” In other words, if you’re looking to fight with the Resistance, you shouldn’t have to worry that talking to the wrong person will get you stuck for your whole trip as a First Order sympathizer.

“Real choice means I have to understand the stakes,” Thacher adds.

Learning the ways of the Jedi in the ship’s lightsaber training pod activity.

There are a few ride-like activities on the Halcyon, like the lightsaber training pod or the bridge, and the overall vibe here is more cruise ship than theme park — albeit a cruise ship that’s been ripped out of the Star Wars universe.

The lightsaber training was (unsurprisingly) the best of them. Guided by a Saja (a Jedi-like follower of the Force), guests are given a lightsaber to spin and slash around to block blaster bolts. The effects and haptics here make the activity — not just light and sound, but you can actually feel the saber blocking each bolt as it flashes in the real world.

The bridge area, meanwhile, is a more cooperative group activity in the vein of the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run ride at Galaxy’s Edge, with four different roles that guests rotate between. Bouncing across the different stations let me take a turn blocking asteroids, aligning the ship’s sensors by matching buttons and switches, blasting lasers, and more.

galactic voyager star wars

Those shipboard activities, in addition to offering entertainment in their own right, help serve as catalysts for drawing guests further into those story arcs. A bridge training exercise, for example, might end with helping the ship’s captain on a clandestine rescue mission in an asteroid belt.

Guests will also journey down to the Galaxy’s Edge park in Disney World proper, where they’ll be able to ride the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Rise of the Resistance rides (Galactic Starcruiser guests will get to use the premium-purchase “ Lightning Lanes ” to avoid waiting in line, of course), along with accomplishing their own missions given to them from characters on the ship through the smartphone-based “Datapad” built into the Play Disney Parks app. Disney says those activities will also tie into guests’ individual, ongoing storylines when they come back aboard the ship.

A franchise that you can not just love, but live in

The integration of narrative, traditional theme park rides, live entertainment, and a hotel stay make Galactic Starcruiser a blend of virtually every aspect of a Disney World trip all at once. It feels like the next step for the modern, all-encompassing pop culture machines that have come to dominate entertainment: a franchise that you can not just love, but live in.

It’s also important to remember that Galactic Starcruiser is just the first of the company’s efforts here, one that will, like the parks it’s set in, presumably grow and change over time. And it’s easy to imagine that both Disney (and its competitors) will be thinking about how to bring this kind of first-hand fan experience to more properties in the future.

“Traveling through hyperspace ain’t like dusting crops.”

That immersive experience comes at a very literal cost, though. When Disney first announced pricing, a two-night stay was quoted as starting at $4,809 for two adults, while a family of four (three adults, one child) was $5,999. That only includes the “basic” — relatively speaking — Galactic Starcruiser experience. Things like alcoholic or “specialty” drinks, outfits to better fit into the Star Wars universe you’re joining for your stay, and experiences like Savi’s Lightsaber Workshop on Baatu are extras you’ll have to budget in, too, additions to dive even deeper into the world.

All this comes at a very literal cost

The end of our Galactic Starcruiser trip ended much in the same way that any day at Disney World does: a grand fireworks show celebrating a successful voyage. The explosions are bright and colorful, with shapes and designs far beyond anything terrestrial fireworks could do. But they’re also fake: they’re digital illusions playing on the massive “viewport” screens on the bridge, masked by the soaring John Williams score and the heightened reality you’re in.

Everything to Know About Disney's New Immersive' Star Wars' Hotel — Including the Price Tag!

Walt Disney World guests will soon have the chance to book a two-night stay on a Galactic Starcruiser, a first-of-its-kind interactive lodging experience

Summer Associate, PEOPLE

Walt Disney World is getting ready to send guests to a galaxy far far away — aboard the Galactic Starcruiser, its forthcoming Star Wars -themed hotel.

Here's everything we know so far about the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser:

  • It's Unlike Any Other Disney Hotel

A stay at the property, which is scheduled to open in spring of 2022, is "part immersive theater, part themed environment, part culinary extravaganza, part real-life role-playing game," according to a press release from the theme park . Rather than simply a place to crash after a day of park hopping, the Starcruiser is an "ongoing, immersive and interactive entertainment, where choices determine your experience."

The hotel itself, according to Disney lore, is actually the Halcyon starcruiser, "the jewel of the Chandrila Star Line." After boarding, "you'll voyage to the far reaches of the galaxy in legendary comfort and style," the site reads.

2. You Have to Stay for 2 Nights

The experience is a non-negotiable two-night experience that allows guests to complete whatever adventure they may find themselves swept up in. Guests get to live their Star Wars story through exclusive experiences, missions and activities.

3. It Comes with a Hefty Price Tag

For two guests, the Starcruiser experience will cost $4,809, three guests cost $5,299 and four guests cost $5,999. But the price includes nearly everything you could need during your stay! Every vacation package comes with a two-night stay in a cabin or suite, food and beverage on the ship (excluding alcoholic and specialty beverages) and valet parking. Guests also gain admission to Disney's Hollywood Studios home to the Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge land.

4. The Rooms Are Out of This World

The hotel — technically a Corellian MPO-1400 model starcruiser — features 100-well-appointed cabins and suites suitable for your intergalactic journey. There are three room types: the standard cabin, which sleeps four to five passengers; the galaxy class suite, which sleeps four passengers; and the grand cabin suite, which sleeps eight passengers.

The Halcyon's backstory includes that it was "recently refurbished and reoutfitted" to combine "modern conveniences with the romance of the age of exploration."

5. You'll Get to Train Like a Jedi

During a stay at the hotel, guests will have the opportunity to meet beloved characters from the movie saga and get the opportunity to go through lightsaber training.

Guests will also have the option to do bridge training, which allows them to experience the Halcyon and learn how the ship functions with help from the onboard crew during a hands-on presentation.

6. The Story Continues in the Park

The Galactic Starcruiser voyage comes after the 2019 opening of the theme park's Star Wars l and, Galaxy's Edge . The land was Disney's biggest expansion at the time, and it placed an emphasis on technology and innovative design as a way to entice guests into a fully immersive experience.

8 Times Star Wars & Star Trek Told The Same Story

  • Star Wars and Star Trek share similar storytelling elements, such as opening chase scenes and planet-killing superweapons.
  • There are intentional or unintentional parallels between the two franchises, from similar-sounding names to nearly identical plotlines.
  • Recent Star Wars and Star Trek projects, Skeleton Crew and Star Trek: Prodigy , show similarities in plot and themes.

While Star Wars and Star Trek are very different franchises despite their similar names, there have inevitably been many times when they have told the same story. This may seem unlikely at first glance, as Star Wars and Star Trek fans have been rivals for as long as anyone can remember . Star Wars leans more into space fantasy , telling a story about another galaxy in the distant past and creating new mythology to captivate modern audiences. Star Trek , meanwhile, is science fiction, offering humanity a glimpse of an optimistic future of exploration and technological innovation.

Of course, when both franchises rely on starships, alien races, and traveling faster than the speed of light, there are sure to be common elements. Some moments even go beyond similar names or designs to having the exact same plot and style of storytelling. Whether intentional or not, these examples are an opportunity to observe parallels between the two biggest names in science fiction. As Star Wars and Star Trek continually release new movies and TV shows , viewers can continue to spot their similarities and not just their differences.

Star Trek TV episodes often begin with a Captain's Log to tell the audience everything they need to know without interrupting the story's pacing. When Star Trek: Voyager premiered in 1995, however, the creative team needed to summarize the basic conflict between the Maquis and the Cardassian Empire for any new viewers who had not seen Star Trek: The Next Generation or its spinoff Star Trek: Deep Space Nine . The solution was to begin with three paragraphs of text, followed by a chase scene introducing three main characters and setting the show's plot in motion.

It would be hard for any movie fan to miss the similarities between the opening of Voyager and the first Star Wars movie. A New Hope famously begins with an opening crawl explaining the conflict between the Rebels and the evil Galactic Empire, followed by a giant Star Destroyer chasing the smaller Tantive IV . The next few scenes introduce three main heroes and lead to the droids fleeing in an escape pod to set the rest of the plot in motion. Considering this was the first scene of a new Star Trek series, the decision to have a clear Star Wars parallel was interesting.

The Maquis are chased by "Gul Evek of the Cardassian Fourth Order," which sounds similar to the First Order from the Star Wars sequel trilogy.

Fans had waited 16 years for another Star Wars adventure on the big screen when Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace was released in 1999. Rather than having another evil Empire, the main villains were the greedy Trade Federation, a galactic corporation powerful enough to have its own private droid army and a seat in the Republic Senate. Unknown to the Jedi, the Trade Federation leadership was under the sway of Darth Sidious, who promised them power but was using them to create a political crisis that would begin his eventual rise to power.

While the Trade Federation has very little in common with Star Trek 's United Federation of Planets, it's curious that George Lucas used a name famously associated with Star Wars 's biggest rival. The Trade Federation is also controlled by the Neimoidians , which is hard not to see as a playful reference to Leonard Nimoy, famous for playing Spock in Star Trek: The Original Series and beyond. Qui-Gon Jinn emphasizes that the Neimoidians are cowardly and motivated purely by greed, a description that could easily apply to the Ferengi in Star Trek , whose entire civilization revolves around making profit.

An Invading Army From Beyond The Known Galaxy

Star wars: the new jedi order (book series).

Star Wars: The New Jedi Order - Vector Prime by R.A. Salvatore kicked off a new era of Star Wars publishing in 1999, exploring the galaxy's future while George Lucas' prequel trilogy was exploring its past. The New Jedi Order followed Luke Skywalker and the next generation of Jedi Knights defending the New Republic from the Yuuzhan Vong , a brutal warrior race from beyond the galaxy. Told across 19 full-length novels and a few short stories, The New Jedi Order was an ambitious undertaking, telling one big story while allowing authors to explore individual conflicts and character arcs.

This premise and storytelling format is similar to the later seasons of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine which, funnily enough, ended the same year The New Jedi Order began. Many Star Wars fans have criticized the Yuuzhan Vong for feeling more like Star Trek villains , and there are parallels to the Dominion in Deep Space Nine . The Yuuzhan Vong are divided into different castes and worship strange gods, while the Dominion has a hierarchy for their three main species who worship their founders like gods. Both stories end with various factions and former enemies working together to repel the invaders.

Known simply as Enterprise for its first two seasons, this prequel series did more than add Star Trek to its title in season 3. The change came with a serialized plot spanning the entire season, a new group of aliens called the Xindi, and a race to find them before they could build a superweapon to destroy Earth. After convincing a group of Xindi that Earth was not a threat to them, Captain Jonathan Archer led the crew of the Enterprise in a final battle to defend their home and destroy the weapon from the inside.

The original Star Wars trilogy had two Death Stars, Star Wars: The Force Awakens had Starkiller Base, and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker had a fleet of 10,000 ships, each capable of destroying a planet.

While most of Enterprise season 3 still felt like Star Trek , superweapons are commonly associated with Star Wars . The original Star Wars trilogy had two Death Stars, Star Wars: The Force Awakens had Starkiller Base, and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker had a fleet of 10,000 ships, each capable of destroying a planet. Enterprise season 3 regularly features the Xindi leaders conferring about the weapon's progress, much like the Imperials seen on the Death Star in A New Hope . The context may be different in Enterprise , but a superweapon will always scream Star Wars .

J.J. Abrams redefined Star Trek in 2009 with a reboot that spawned a trilogy of films and eventually led to more TV shows. Rather than follow the example of the previous movies, Abrams and his team made their own version of Star Trek , one with a different visual style and a greater focus on action and adventure. The movie created a new timeline separate from the previous Star Trek entries and focused on a younger version of the Enterprise crew finding their place in this alternate reality. These changes made Star Trek entertaining and much more accessible for new fans.

However, it didn't take viewers long to realize that the new Star Trek drew heavy inspiration from its biggest rival. Abrams admitted that he was not a big Star Trek fan , aiming to create a version he would enjoy, and it's easy to see elements taken straight from Star Wars . Jim Kirk and Luke Skywalker are called to adventure among the stars, Vulcan and Alderaan are destroyed by superweapons, Captain Pike and Princess Leia are tortured for information, and the Enterprise crew and the Rebels wage a final attack on their respective superweapons.

J.J. Abrams later wrote and directed Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker .

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story featured an impressive cast of new characters, including Cassian Andor of Rebel Intelligence. While the movie didn't have time to delve into Cassian's backstory, the character proved worthy of his own spinoff, leading to Andor season 1 in 2022. The show's darker storytelling, fully fleshed-out characters, outstanding production value, and Diego Luna's compelling lead performance ensured everyone would associate "Andor" with Star Wars . The upcoming second season will surely bring in more viewers as the series ties into the events of Rogue One .

Even so, viewers tuning into new Star Trek TV shows may find themselves confused when they meet the Andorians. With their distinct blue skin and antennae, the Andorians are one of the most recognizable alien races in Star Trek , dating all the way back to The Original Series in 1967. Andorians were explored in-depth in Star Trek: Enterprise , and new shows such as Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds have featured Andorian characters. Like the Neimoidians in The Phantom Menace , it's curious that Star Wars gave Cassian a last name commonly associated with Star Trek .

While the first scene of Star Trek: Voyager felt more like a Star Wars movie, the first scene of Ahsoka felt more like a Star Trek TV show. Captain Hayle and his crew aboard a New Republic cruiser encounter a mysterious ship that transmits an old Jedi clearance code. While the rest of the crew is shocked, Captain Hayle is not so easily convinced, believing these "Jedi" must be impostors. He turns command of the bridge over to his first officer and greets Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati, who confirm they are not Jedi by slaughtering the entire crew.

Immediately following the episode's premiere, some fans noted the similarities to a Star Trek scene. Aside from Star Trek characters often saying "You have the bridge," the lighting, set design, and camera angles all feel like a classic Star Trek crew exploring the unknown. The Captain asks various officers for information, and casually decides to investigate, and the ship is overwhelmed when the crew realizes what they've found. The rest of Ahsoka season 1 constantly references previous Star Wars movies and TV shows , even if it started with something that felt like Star Trek .

The most recent Star Wars story to feel like Star Trek hasn't even premiered yet. Skeleton Crew will follow a group of kids who find a starship and travel the galaxy to find their way home. Jude Law will play a mysterious Force user, possibly a Jedi, who leads this young crew on their mission. While no one knows exactly how Skeleton Crew will execute its premise, the plot is undeniably similar to the animated Star Trek: Prodigy , which follows a group of kids who find a Starfleet trip and travel the galaxy under the guidance of Hologram Janeway.

Star Wars' Upcoming TV Show Sounds Like A Star Trek Ripoff - & That's Perfect

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, set to premiere later this year, seems oddly similar to a recent Star Trek story, which may work to its advantage.

In Skeleton Crew 's defense, Prodigy felt more like Star Wars in its first few episodes . A group of ragtag heroes stealing a ship to go on an adventure has happened several times in Star Wars , and their inexperience means that they take a while to feel like a proper Starfleet crew. Even so, the similarities between these two shows are fascinating, and it will be interesting to see if there are more parallels when Skeleton Crew premieres. With no end in sight for either franchise, there will undoubtedly be more times when Star Wars and Star Trek tell the same story.

Inside look at the new Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser 2-night voyage

We wielded lightsabers, ate blue shrimp and slept in space.

PHOTO: Astromech droid SK-62O greets guests in the Atrium of the Halcyon starcruiser in Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

PHOTO: Cabins for guests aboard the Halcyon Starcruiser.

PHOTO: Butterfly pea powder helps give these shrimp a Felucian-inspired blue.

Star Wars: The Acolyte Jedi Ship: What Starship Do the Jedi Use?

Star Wars: The Acolyte Jedi Ship: What Starship Do the Jedi Use?

By Tamal Kundu

Fans are wondering what starship the Jedi use in Star Wars: The Acolyte . The newest entry in the Star Wars franchise, The Acolyte focuses on the Jedi and their affiliates trying to solve murders of fellow members of the Order. Viewers have noted that they travel across the galaxy at a stunning speed even for the Star Wars franchise and are now curious about what type of starship they have.

Here is everything you need to know about the starship the Jedi are using for their travel.

What kind of ship do the Jedi use in Star Wars: The Acolyte?

The Jedi use a Polan-717, a type of shuttle starship predominantly used to transport both people and cargo.

Alternatively known as the Polan, the starship was built by Lantillian ShipWrights, a starship manufacturer that also built the GX1 short hauler. Polan-717 is about 79 meters long, 58 meters wide, and 20 meters tall. It doesn’t have an internal hyperdrive. As a result, it needs to be docked to a hyperdrive sled to travel at faster-than-light speeds.

In contrast, the GX1 short hauler comes with a Class 2 hyperdrive system. During the Clone Wars, which takes place about a century after the events of The Acolyte, the Galactic Republic heavily uses the GX1 short hauler as a diplomatic vessel. The civilians also use these ships. One of the differences between the two types is that the diplomatic GX1 short hauler has double laser cannons mounted on the turret, and the civilian one doesn’t.

As The Acolyte takes place during the High Republic Era, it’s probably safe to presume that shuttles similar to the Polan gained prominence during this period. In the extensive history of the Order, the Jedi have used a variety of ships to travel across the galaxy. For instance, Anakin Skywalker and his Padawan Ahsoka Tano use a Corellian G9 Rigger-class light freighter called the Twilight at the height of the Clone Wars. The Twilight was about 34 meters long, 17 meters wide, and 16 meters tall with its wings extended.

Star Wars: 10 Best Luke Skywalker Stories in Comic History, Ranked

Why the jedi think the sith are extinct in the acolyte & the phantom menace, 6 times the sith code was proved right in star wars.

  • The history of the Jedi is very much the history of Star Wars , and the comics expand on that history immensely.
  • Star Wars comics feature diverse Jedi stories, from humorous to gritty, showcasing different eras of Jedi history.
  • Through comics, fans can explore pivotal Jedi characters like Cade Skywalker, Kanan Jarrus, Luke Skywalker, and more.

The Jedi , or the Jedi Order, is a religion focused solely on connecting with and channeling the light side of the Force in Star Wars canon. While the Sith are focused only on the dark side, the Jedi are servants of the light, and their cosmic purpose speaks to their dedication. The Jedi are, and have always been, peacekeepers in the galaxy that work closely with whichever galactic government is in power at that time to ensure interplanetary conflicts are resolved as quickly and definitively as possible.

Throughout Star Wars history, the Jedi have been galactic peacekeepers for the vast majority of the Order’s existence. While there are certainly a number of fantastic stories that center around that mission during wildly different eras of Star Wars canon , there are others that take a more personal look at the life of a Jedi, which is especially exciting during times of turmoil for the Order - including times when the Order doesn’t exist at all. Here are the 10 best Jedi stories in Star Wars comics history, ranked!

Luke Skywalker is the ultimate hero in Star Wars canon (and Legends), and his comic book storylines reflect that. Here are Luke's 10 best, ranked!

10 The Origin of the Jedi is a High Fantasy Epic that Kicks-Off the Star Wars Universe

Star wars: dawn of the jedi - force storm by john ostrander and jan duursema.

Before hyperspace travel, before any Galactic Empire, there was the original Order of Force-sensitive people called to study the ways of the Force as Je'daii. The Je'daii operated in a system called Tython after willingly boarding strange pyramid-like space vessels that visited worlds with Force-sensitive individuals, and taking them to Tython, where they learned how to tap into the Force. Unlike what the Jedi would become, the Je'daii practiced true balance in the Force. There were no 'light side' or 'dark side' wielders during this time, only those who could wield the Force, and those who could not.

Dawn of the Jedi sets the stage for the entire Star Wars universe, as everything fans have seen from the beloved series began with this high fantasy epic. However, while integral to Jedi lore, Dawn of the Jedi pre-dates how the Jedi operate on a fundamental level , making it less of a 'Jedi adventure' story when compared to other Star Wars comics.

9 Star Wars Hilariously Subverts Post-Order 66 Jedi Expectations

Star wars #8 by roy thomas and howard chaykin.

When Han Solo is looking to add more members to his iconic Rebel squad, one candidate unarguably stands out from the rest: Don-Wan Kihotay. Don-Wan is an old man who claims to be a Jedi Master, one of the last remaining since the Jedi Purge of Order 66 - and he's certainly convincing. Don-Wan wields a lightsaber, he dresses in Jedi robes, and he seems to know a lot about the Force. However, come to find out, Don-Wan isn't a Jedi, just a delusional fanatic who's convinced himself - and others - that he's a real Jedi.

The inspiration for this character comes from the Spanish classic Don Quijote , and while this is one of the more goofy chapters in Star Wars history (rightfully relegated to 'Legends'), it's also a fantastic Jedi story when considering one of the most tired tropes in the current canon. It seems Jedi are popping up left and right in Star Wars these days, even after Order 66 and Darth Vader's subsequent crusade to murder all who survived the initial purge. With Don-Wan Kihotay, fans get a much-needed reprieve, with a hilarious subversion of their expectations.

8 Star Wars Gives Fans the Most Badass Jedi Outlaw in History with Cade Skywalker

Star wars legacy vol. 1 by john ostrander and jan duursema.

Star Wars Legacy takes place more than a century after the Original Trilogy, and follows Luke Skywalker's descendant, Cade Skywalker. Cade is not like any other Skywalker in his family, as he's a punky, tatted-up space outlaw who plays by his own rules. It's only after he realizes that he's Force-sensitive that Cade has to decide whether he will let the darkness inside himself take over completely and join the One Sith, or if he'll commit himself to the ancient ways of the Jedi. Thankfully for the galaxy, Cade opts for the latter (though he intimately dabbled in the former).

Star Wars Legacy is a brutal, grungy take on the otherwise fantastical Star Wars universe, and Cade Skywalker embodies that perfectly. When he does finally become a Jedi, Cade goes down in history as perhaps the most badass in Star Wars canon.

7 Star Wars Fleshes Out the Story of the Iconic Rebels Jedi: Kanan Jarrus

Star wars: kanan - the last padawan by greg weisman and pepe larraz.

Kanan Jarrus was introduced in the animated series Star Wars: Rebels as the de facto leader of the Ghost crew, as well as being the Jedi who trains Ezra Bridger (and, to some extent, Sabine Wren). However, before he became the iconic Rebels Jedi, Kanan was a Padawan during the Clone Wars, and he was nearly killed during Order 66. While Kanan's backstory was touched on in The Bad Batch series, it wouldn't be totally fleshed out until the 2015 comic Kanan - The Last Padawan .

Kanan's comic book storyline not only fleshes out his own story, but also offers a more personal point of view of what it meant to be a Padawan during a time of war , as well as the horrors of what became of the conflict, all told through the eyes of a Jedi modern fans already have a connection with.

6 Star Wars Allows Luke Skywalker to Shine as a Jedi Master Post-Original Trilogy

Star wars: dark empire by tom veitch and cam kennedy.

Luke Skywalker's storyline came to a beautiful end in Return of the Jedi , as the rest of his life was committed to modestly shaping the future of the galaxy. But, in Legends continuity, that's not exactly the case. In fact, the bulk of Luke's adventures happen after the events of the Original Trilogy, including his best one to date: Dark Empire . Dark Empire saw the return of Palpatine in a younger clone body, which not only finally gave fans an epic lightsaber duel between Luke and Sidious, but also allowed Luke to defeat this galactic threat himself.

Dark Empire was the closure Luke Skywalker needed, as well as acting as the ultimate test of his own strength in the Force. After this story, Luke could confidently charge head-first into shaping the galaxy for the better, making Dark Empire perhaps Luke's most significant storyline as a Jedi .

5 Star Wars Fans See the New Jedi Order Under Luke Skywalker in Action

Star wars: jedi academy - leviathan by kevin j. anderson and dario carrasco, jr..

It's not often that Star Wars fans get to see the fruits of Luke Skywalker's labors as a Jedi Master when it comes to training younger Jedi (aside from his failures), which is why Star Wars: Jedi Academy - Leviathan is such an exciting comic series. Not only do fans finally get to see what Luke Skywalker has been working toward since the fall of the Empire , but they're also introduced to the next generation of Jedi themselves in a truly epic fashion, as Luke sends his best students to battle a Leviathan and save an entire village.

This is the only comic that puts a spotlight on Luke's Jedi Academy (as it's something that exists primarily in the Legends novels), which gives this story heightened significance. This is the New Jedi Order, the legacy of what was seemingly destroyed during Order 66 after persevering for thousands of years, making it an immensely important addition to Jedi lore.

4 Star Wars Gives Fans a Grim Look at the Knights of the Old Republic

Star wars: knights of the old republic #1-6 by john jackson miller and brian ching.

Star Wars fans are more than a little familiar with the age of the Old Republic, as it's probably one of the most hardcore ages in Star Wars history due to the prominence of the Sith and the seemingly uncharacteristically ruthlessness of the Jedi. During one particular storyline set during this era, fans see first-hand how villainous the otherwise heroic Jedi can be through the eyes of a Padawan who was betrayed by his master.

This storyline features a group of Jedi Masters killing their Padawans during their graduation ceremony, and only one Padawan makes it out alive: Zayne Carrick. The story that follows is a grim look into the age of the Old Republic that utterly matches the hardcore nature of this time period in Star Wars history, while also shining a much darker light on the Jedi as a whole .

3 Star Wars Allows Fans to Witness the Golden Age of the Jedi in the High Republic

Star wars: the high republic #1 by cavan scott and ario anindito.

The High Republic is an age that has just recently been brought to the screen in The Acolyte , though it's a chapter in Star Wars history that has been around for quite some time, and is perhaps the most significant in Jedi lore. This is an era of peace, as the Sith have long-been eradicated, and the Jedi are working in unison with the Galactic Republic. In fact, there are efforts to expand the reach of the Republic with projects like Starlight Beacon, offering resources to Outer Rim worlds that weren't available before.

The High Republic is the gold standard for what the Jedi Order continuously strives for , even if the reality isn't always as glamorous as the appearance. If there was ever a 'perfect' time to be a Jedi, it was during the High Republic, which is important for fans to see, as it puts in perspective how far the Jedi had fallen during the Prequels, and how much work Jedi like Luke and Rey have in front of them while trying to rebuild the Jedi Order from scratch - and it all starts with this comic.

2 Star Wars Gives Fans a Gritty Alternative to the Clone Wars Era

Star wars: republic by john ostrander and c.p. smith.

Before the animated series, the Clone Wars was detailed in the pages of the (now Legends) comic series Star Wars: Republic , and aside from a few standout episodes of the animated series, it's a much darker telling. Star Wars: Republic was the first series to connect the events of Episode II and Episode III , and it didn't hold back when it came to the horrific reality of war - and it did so through the eyes of the Jedi that were fighting it.

It's difficult to find a Jedi story more grabbing than one that takes place during the Clone Wars era, not just because of the baked-in conflict associated with this time period, but because it features Jedi fans are perhaps the most familiar with. Not just Anakin and Obi-Wan (though they are prominent) but the likes of Aayla Secura, Quinlan Vos, and Ki-Adi Mundi. This is the Jedi Order fans know and love , and it's arguably never been more perfectly captured than in this comic series.

1 Star Wars Sets the Stage for the Jedi Order's Entire History in Tales of the Jedi

Star wars: tales of the jedi by tom veitch and chris gossett.

Tales of the Jedi is the earliest version of the Jedi Order as Star Wars fans know it today. After the age of the Je'daii and the firmly-established separation of the Jedi and the Sith, Tales of the Jedi features the Jedi Order in its infancy. The Jedi are establishing connections with the newly-formed Galactic Republic following the discovery of hyperspace travel, and they're doing their best to be peacekeepers with the limited resources they have. It's exciting to see such an advanced and widespread organization like the Jedi Order find its footing in a galaxy that doesn't even know what a Jedi is yet.

Not only is this series the perfect history lesson for any Star Wars fan (while also featuring some amazing action/adventure storylines), it's also incredibly relevant in the current canon. While not exactly the same, Tales of the Jedi shows what Luke had to go through while forming his Jedi Academy, as well as what's in store for Rey in the Star Wars films. The world-building is phenomenal, and the significance is unparalleled, making Tales of the Jedi the best Jedi story in Star Wars comics history.

Star Wars is a multimedia franchise that started in 1977 by creator George Lucas. After the release of Star Wars: Episode IV- A New Hope (originally just titled Star Wars), the franchise quickly exploded, spawning multiple sequels, prequels, TV shows, video games, comics, and much more. After Disney acquired the rights to the franchise, they quickly expanded the universe on Disney+, starting with The Mandalorian.

Watch an awe-inspiring video from final flight of Virgin Galactic's VSS Unity spaceplane

"It provides perspective."

Virgin Galactic shared an awe-inspiring video from the final flight of its VSS Unity spaceplane.

The space plane's final commercial mission, called Galactic 07, took off from Spaceport America in southern New Mexico at 10:31 a.m. EDT (1431 GMT) on June 8. The suborbital flight carried a Turkish researcher and three private astronauts to an altitude of 44,562 feet (13,582 meters) before the plane dropped and ignited its rocket engine to carry the four passengers and two pilots to space and back.

"I'm most excited about looking at the Earth; getting the overview effect," a Galactic 07 crewmember says in the video , which the company shared on YouTube. "It provides perspective."

The mission reached an altitude of 54.4 miles (87.5 km), marking the seventh, and final, commercial spaceflight by Virgin Galactic on Unity. The spaceplane is being retired to make way for the company's new Delta class of vehicles, which are expected to begin flight tests in late 2025 and commercial service in 2026.

Among the passengers was Turkish research astronaut, Tuva Atasever, who conducted seven experiments during the suborbital flight. The experiments ranged from accurately dispensing and dosing an insulin pen in microgravity to monitoring brain activity in response to the cognitive shift caused by seeing the Earth from space, also known as the overview effect .

Unity's final flight attracted the largest crowd since the launch of Virgin Galactic's first fully crewed suborbital spaceflight in 2021, called Unity 22 , officials said in the video. The crowd cheered and applauded as the spaceplane lifted off and then glided to a landing back at the spaceport approximately one hour later, at 11:41 a.m. EDT (1541 GMT).

The video also captures footage from inside the space plane, including when Unity was released from Eve and fired its engines to reach space, where the crew experienced weightlessness and floated around the cabin in microgravity. Crowds on the ground were able to watch a full livestream of the flight and experience the success of Unity’s emotional final flight.

"Once again, Virgin Galactic returning new astronauts to planet Earth, concluding VSS Unity's final space mission," a video voiceover says, and "paving the way for the next generation of commercial space flight."
