“I brought my class to the Hive for a field trip last week. One of the parents told me about their new location in Surrey. We rode skytrain from New West and it was easy to find. Leor was super accommodating and friendly, always quick to get ahold of. When we arrived, we were blown away by how open, bright, and airy it felt. Everything was brand new and the kids couldn’t wait to get climbing. After a safety lesson, the three instructors helped supervise while the kiddos ran amok up and down the walls. It was the perfect year-end field trip. Thanks to Leor and the staff at the Hive, my students won’t soon forget this experience!!!”
– Danielle Tortolano, Ecole Qayqayt Elementary School Teacher (New Westminster).

Farm Tours & Field Trips
Connecting students to agriculture — on the farm .
Farming is a business, but it’s also a way of life that affects all of us at home and within our communities. Taking your classroom to a farm gives your students a firsthand glimpse into our province’s food suppliers and what it means to be a farmer, the multifaceted role a farmer plays as steward of the land, and what’s involved in caring for livestock. It’s also a chance to get up close to some pretty cool machines. Many farms in BC open their gates and barns for tours, and each one offers a unique and fun experience for students.
To find a farm tour or agricultural field trip near you, locate your region on the map, then see the corresponding list of tours and trips in that area. Rates vary where applicable.

Food-borne illness can result from close contact with farm animals. BCAITC does not review or monitor any of the farm tour facilities on this list. It is up to each farm visitor to be aware of the risks associated with visiting a farm and take the necessary precautions. To reduce the risk of any food-borne illness, be sure that all students, teachers, and volunteers wash their hands with either hand sanitizer (or sanitizing hand wipes) or warm water and soap (drying their hands with a clean paper towel) before eating at and leaving the farm.

Floating Nature Trails
With its spectacular natural scenery, diverse landscape and wealth of green spaces, Surrey is a haven for outdoor adventurers. A fun way to stay active while maintaining social distance is to take to one of the City’s many waterways. No matter how you decide to spend your time on the water in Surrey, whether it be by kayak, canoe or stand-up paddleboard, you’re guaranteed an amazing experience and a boatload of beautiful memories.
Surrey’s Blueways Master Plan encourages non-motorized recreational boating on waterways, to facilitate family enjoyment and public education in a way that supports the fish, wildlife and agricultural communities.
The two routes best suited for beginners, or those who just want to go for a leisurely float, are:
NICOMEKL RIVER FLOATING NATURE TRAIL
Scenic and tranquil, the Nicomekl River Floating Nature Trail, is perfect for all paddling abilities. The river takes you past farmers fields, waterfront homes, mountain viewscapes, Historic Stewart Farm and past the birding area of Blackie Spit and Crescent Beach. A popular launch spot is Ward’s Marina in Elgin Heritage Park, and highlights include navigating past the moored yachts and under the Burlington North Santa Fe railway wooden trestle bridge. If you time it right, you may find yourself paddling under the Amtrak train as it rolls overhead.
THE SERPENTINE PADDLING CIRCUIT
The Serpentine Paddling Circuit is a loop located in the central Serpentine Valley, and was developed with the novice or exercise-oriented paddler in mind. The loop will take 2 – 3 hours depending on your pace and as the route is entirely enclosed between drainage dykes, paddlers are placed in a quiet and still-water area, where the city feels like it is a million miles away, when in reality it’s just minutes away!

Field Trips
Educational Field Trip plays a vital role in the school curriculum, which serves a wide range of benefits in several ways including learning and teaching. One of them is that they help students to learn through authentic experience and can be an interesting way to explore new things for both the learners and teachers. This is the reason why students should encourage to engage in field trips which are significant for students. In terms of educational, students have ample opportunity to witness new things, learn about new environments at their own pace and immerse themselves in an authentic experience, without having to the anxiety of homework, exams or tests. Most importantly, field trips contribute greatly to build self-confidence and foster a sense of teamwork and community.
Please note: You will need to also provide or show proof of a valid insurance and drivers license to either the teacher or office prior to the Field Trip.
