About The Marías

The Marías are the Grammy-nominated psychedelic-soul lovechild of Puerto Rican-bred, Atlanta-raised María Zardoya and Los Angeles native, Josh Conway. The two are joined by their closest friends, Jesse Perlman on guitar and Edward James on keys. Their undeniably intuitive musical chemistry can be heard in the band’s smooth rendezvous of jazz percussion, hypnotic guitar riffs, smoke-velvet vocals and nostalgic horn solos. There’s something undeniably sensual in their dreamlike fusion of jazz, psychedelia, funk and lounge. Since the release of their critically acclaimed debut album, Cinema , The Marías have earned the reputation behind their impressive upward trajectory, including two Grammy nominations, a Billboard chart-topper and collaborations with some of the biggest names in Latin music, including Bad Bunny and Tainy. In the live show, The Marías are joined by Gabe Steiner on trumpet and Doron Zounes on bass. The detail that has defined their cinematic style off-stage is brought to life during their live performance as the group delivers striking visuals that beautifully compliment their dreamlike songs, creating an indisputably unique and seemingly transportive experience. Their upcoming sophomore album Submarine , set for release on May 31st, features new single “Run Your Mouth,” which garnered over one million streams in its first week of release.

How much are tickets to see the marías on their ‘submarine tour’.

María Zardoya of The Marías sings in concert.

On May 31, The Marías will release their second studio album “Submarine.”

To go with the record, the Los Angeles-based quartet announced they’re hitting the road for the ‘Submarine Tour’ with special guest Automatic at music halls, theatres, ballrooms and lawns all over North America.

That includes a stop at New York’s Radio City Music Hall on Thursday, Aug. 8.

The Marías can’t wait, either.

“(L)et’s dance let’s cry let’s get hot let’s get sweaty let’s get wettt, submarine tour babyyy,” the band shared on Instagram .

And if you want to be there to sing “Cariño,” “Over the Moon,” “mañana” and tracks from the forthcoming “Submarine” along with María Zardoya, tickets are available for all 25 concerts this summer.

Some are shockingly cheap, too.

At the time of publication, the lowest price we could find was $18 before fees on Vivid Seats.

To be fair, that price was a bit of an outlier; all other shows have seats starting anywhere from $50 to $180 before fees.

Curious how much tickets will cost for The Marías concert closest to you?

We’ve got everything you need to know and more about the ‘Submarine Tour’ below.

All prices listed above are subject to fluctuation.

The Marías set list

Following the release of their first album, “Cinema,” The Marías took the record out to the fans.

While they’ll likely mix things up at the next batch of shows this summer, here’s what they performed at the last ‘Cinema Tour’ concert on Nov. 5, 2022, courtesy of Set List FM .

01.) “I Don’t Know You” 02.) “Basta ya” 03.) “I Like It” 04.) “Only in My Dreams” 05.) “Superclean” 06.) “Déjate llevar” 07.) “Out for the Night” 08.) “Ruthless” 09.) “Cariño” 10.) “ABQ” 11.) “Loverboy” 12.) “Over the Moon” 13.) “Clueless”

14.) “Calling U Back” 15.) “Un millón” 16.) “Run Your Mouth” 17.) “Spin Me Around” 18.) “All I Really Want Is You” 19.) “Hush” 20.) “Otro atardecer” (Bad Bunny cover)

The Marías new music

Leading up to the release of “Submarine,” The Marías dropped a pair of singles.

First, the four-piece put out the exquisite synth-pop confection “Run Your Mouth” on March 7.

Then, in tandem with the tour announcement, they unveiled the dreamy, atmospheric “Lejos de Ti,” which translates to “Far From You.”

If you want to brush up on The Marías’ new stuff, you can find both tracks here .

At all shows, The Marías will be joined by Automatic.

Known for popular, jangly tracks like “Too Much Money,” “Calling It” and “Electrocution,” the band reminds you that when done right, there’s nothing better than lo-fi indie rock.

Never heard their stuff?

You can find Automatic’s entire discography here .

After Key Bridge tragedy, a widow’s pain and unexpected blessings

María del Carmen Castellón Luna, whose husband Miguel Luna died in the Key Bridge collapse, speaks for the first time about how the tragedy affected her life.

Since that cold March morning, when María del Carmen Castellón Luna learned her husband was among those who died in the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse, her grief has been eased by unexpected warmth.

Much of what has happened during the past six months might have seemed like a blessing, she said, if it had all happened for a different reason.

Family members she had not seen in decades visited from El Salvador, getting to witness the life she and Miguel Luna had built in suburban Maryland. Strangers donated to help with the mortgage on their house, and elected officials, even President Joe Biden , gave her hugs or flags and called her husband a “hero.”

Most significantly, the federal government initiated immigration proceedings for Castellón, offering her a foothold in the country she had called home since 2003. It was something she had long dreamed of, just never like this — leaving her so heartbroken that she had waited until now, six months later, to speak up about it publicly.

“It’s joy, and it’s pain at the same time,” Castellón said tearfully in Spanish during an interview with The Washington Post. “Every time I get a piece of good news, I think about how I wish I would have gotten it earlier. To be able to share it with him.”

maria tour

Castellón shared her story more widely at a news conference in Baltimore on Tuesday afternoon, holding a white rose in one hand as she outlined how she hoped to seek justice for Luna and the five other construction workers who died when a ship collided into the bridge.

Her attorneys argued that the owners of the Dali container ship — Grace Ocean Private Ltd. and Synergy Marine Pte Ltd. — should be held liable for damages from the crash beyond the $43.6 million cap that they have sought from a federal judge, saying the Dali should have never been allowed to leave port.

Advocates at the immigrant rights group CASA, which Luna belonged to, said the tragedy underscores the need for stronger workplace protections and language access rules for immigrant workers of all kinds — day laborers, roofers and welders, including some of those who stood behind Castellón in yellow construction vests at the news conference.

And Castellón said she chose to speak out about her pain — the early-morning news about Luna’s death, the weeks-long wait to find her husband’s body , the ache of the funeral — in hopes that other immigrant families might also receive the fortune she’s been graced with over the past months.

She said justice in this situation meant holding wrongdoers accountable, lifting up essential workers like her husband, and preventing future tragedies like the one that changed her life. She also mentioned the promise she said Biden made her in April: that the victims will not be forgotten.

“If there was real justice,” she said, “my husband would still be alive, sharing a life filled with love and a brilliant future.”

A Glen Burnie love story

Castellón, 46, grew up only a dozen miles apart from Luna in the Usulután department of El Salvador, where gangs were rampant and opportunity was limited.

A search for greater possibilities brought them separately to Glen Burnie, a working-class suburb of Baltimore. They attended the same Pentecostal church and even lived in the same apartment complex, her unit directly above his.

But the two did not really talk to one another until 2009, when Castellón was having car troubles on her way to a soccer game and her brother arranged for Luna, his friend, to pick her up and drive her there. Their friendly banter during that trip turned into phone calls and meetups for breakfast at a Denny’s restaurant. By the end of that year, they were officially dating.

Her two daughters joined them. His three kids joined, too. They got married in 2017, blending their lives as newlyweds with the sacrifice and hard schedules of immigrant workers seeking more stability.

He was a welder at construction sites. She cooked in restaurant kitchens. Both worked long hours hoping to save up the money necessary for a down payment on the one-story brick house in the Maryland town that became their home.

Castellón said there were weeks when they barely saw each other. He would be up before dawn, while she would get home from 14-hour shifts in restaurant kitchens past midnight.

And the work left its scars: Luna had to get surgery on both wrists last year, she said, and that led him to drink a glass of milk every day upon arriving from work, hoping that would help fix the problem. The sparks that flew onto him at work had singed holes and burn marks on a forest-green work over-shirt that she pulled out from her closet.

“The two of us were a team,” she said. “We did it all together and for each other, even if there was never enough time for us.”

On the rare quiet weekend, they would treat themselves to crab cakes at the Bonefish Grill down the street and invite friends and family to enjoy the carne asada and pupusas she loved cooking. Luna helped cook, too, preparing the casamiento — a Salvadoran mix of rice and beans — that he learned how to make under her expert eye in the kitchen.

In March 2020, just as the coronavirus pandemic was shutting down the world around them, they achieved another dream: Castellón, who for years had yearned to run her own kitchen, opened a food truck. It was pink and white, with a logo that honored her husband’s last name through a smiling cartoon moon on the side of the vehicle.

Interrupted dreams

In the days before the bridge fell, Castellón and Luna had been planning for an even brighter future.

They had looked at a storefront in the area where they hoped to turn their food truck into a permanent restaurant, serving up Castellón’s food to even more customers. Luna, by now working nights on a road improvement project on the Key Bridge, splurged on tickets to see his favorite pro soccer team, Real Madrid.

The couple had even received some unexpected good news: Castellón, who had not been able to make it home since leaving El Salvador nearly two decades ago, learned her parents had finally received tourist visas to visit.

Luna put up photos of them in their living room in early anticipation of meeting his in-laws for the very first time.

Three days later, the Dali collided with the bridge while Luna was on it as part of a team fixing the road. Castellón — who often slept with her phone on silent so as not to disturb Luna when he was asleep — awoke early that morning to the sound of Luna’s son tapping on the glass of her bedroom window.

What followed over the next month was a blur — driving to a site near the bridge, meeting the governor, hearing how the bridge came down. “I remember wishing I had wings, so I could have been the one to fly over and rescue him,” she said.

Even weeks after the collapse, she got together with her church group to pray that, by some miracle, Luna, 49, might still be alive.

A new reality

Eventually, it was clear that miracle would not come. Castellón would instead find herself regularly driving her red SUV to a local cemetery, where Luna was buried after his body was found in May inside a submerged truck in the Patapsco River.

Now she heads to visit his grave every time her heart calls her to do so — often on Sundays, her day off from the food truck that she is continuing for both of them. “I know he can’t hear me,” she said, “but I like to talk to him anyway. I imagine him watching over me.”

This past Sunday, Castellón walked over to her husband’s grave, which she had decorated with solar-powered lights, vases of yellow carnations and other flowers and googly eyed lawn decorations — a reminder of a playful way he would joke around with her when they started dating.

As cars zoomed past on the road and the sun peeked out from the clouds, she silently studied the decorations and cleared off a few fallen twigs. Two photos were attached to the gravestone — one of Luna with Castellón on their wedding day, the other of him with his children.

Then she knelt closer, and started quietly crying.

St. Maria Goretti

The Little Saint of Great Mercy

From September to November of 2015 the major relics of St. Maria Goretti made a pilgrimage to the United States.  Named the “Pilgrimage of Mercy,” it was the first time that her body traveled to the USA.

While St. Maria is universally known as the Patroness of Purity, her greatest virtue was her unyielding forgiveness of her attacker even in the midst of horrendous physical suffering, a forgiveness that would completely convert him and set him on a path to personal holiness.  In March 2015, His Holiness, Pope Francis, announced an Extraordinary Holy Year of Mercy beginning December 8, 2015. This visit of the major relics of St. Maria Goretti was an effort on the part of the Holy See and Treasures of the Church to prepare and catechize the United States for this great celebration in the life of the Church.

While the tour is now over, a second tour of the USA is being worked on which is expected to take place in the spring of 2017.  Any announcement pertaining to such a tour will be published on this site.
