Why Use a Travel Agent?

This is a question we get all the time and if all you are doing is booking a flight to go see family, then you don’t!  But if you dream of enjoying the best vacation with the peace of mind that you are experiencing the most these destinations have to offer at the best possible price, then you absolutely need a travel agent that specializes in those destinations.  Here are all the reasons why…

It's FREE!

That’s right, you will pay the same price to Disney, Universal, the Cruise Lines, etc. whether you get the expertise of a Fantastical Vacations Travel Agent or not!  So, why wouldn’t you want our team of experts making sure you have the best vacation possible?

You Make the Decisions, We Make Them Happen

Let’s face it.  During popular times (like when new promotions are released), it can take hours to talk to a representative to secure a booking.  Worse yet, websites routinely crash while you’re trying to make those hard to get Fastpass and Dining Reservations.

Don’t worry.  When you book with an Fantastical Vacations Agent, you will tell them what reservations you want ahead of time and they will do the heavy lifting.

Or do you really enjoy the planning aspect of a Disney or Universal vacation?  We completely understand!  You’re welcome to make reservations yourself and we will be available for any questions you might have.

We Fix Problems While You Enjoy Your Time

Have you ever waited on hold for hours trying to make a simple change or checked into a resort to discover a reservation problem?  Let’s face it, problems occur and you don’t want to spend your vacation fixing them.  Let us do that for you!

Once you book with a Fantastical Vacations Travel Agent, they will take care of resolving any changes or mishaps with your reservation.  Simply text, email, or call your agent and let them take care of the problem while you enjoy your vacation.

We Will Get You the Best Price

It is our job to continue to look for new promotions all the time – Even After You Book Your Reservation!  That’s right, if a better deal comes along that we can apply to your reservation, we will let you know immediately.

How many times has a travel provider called you in the past to let you know you can apply a new promotion to a reservation you made months prior?  It’s not going to happen.  But, that is one major reason we are valuable to our clients.  We are your advocates before, during, and after your vacation.

We Are the Experts

To be a Fantastical Vacations Travel Agent, you have to not only have a love for Disney, Universal, Cruising, or All-Inclusives Resorts – you must have taken those vacations multiple times in the last several years.

These destinations are continually changing and it is our job to keep up with all of it.  Let us prove to you that we know these destinations like the backs of our hands.

Our Promise to You

We don’t plan vacations, we make magic.  Our families mean more than anything to us and making memories with them is what we live for.  Every time each one of us walks through the gates of the Magic Kingdom or boards one of those huge cruise ships, we see the wonder in our kids’ eyes and feel the anticipation build within us.  It is truly special and we are addicted to those feelings.

Every one of us at Fantastical Vacations will do everything we can to make your family’s dreams come true.  We will work with you to understand what you love and what you don’t in order to customize your experiences the best way we can.   Because in the end, you won’t remember exactly what happened each and every minute….but, you will remember how it felt, like it was yesterday.

Success check your inbox for a welcome from us, what our clients say about us.

“ 10 out of 5. Our vacation was unbelievable. Leslie had everything worked out for us, down to the tiniest detail. We couldn’t and wouldn’t do it without her knowledge. She gets up early and stays up late to be sure your vacation is as magical as it can be! Her passion for all things Disney is infectious. She genuinely enjoys the questions and making sure your trip is worry free. If you’re planning a Disney vacation, do yourself a favor and let Leslie do the heavy lifting. You’ll be glad you did!

“Leslie is an amazing travel agent!! I truly could not have planned my Disney World trip without her. My trip was canceled in late March due to Covid and after constant rescheduling and stress I found Leslie. Without her I probably would have given up on rebooking the trip. She made sure I was up to date with the latest info, helped me rebook dining, and even waited on Disney phone lines for hours when we found out my original resort wouldn’t be opening.”

I just can’t say enough great things about Leslie and all the work she put into our Disney World vacation!  She has answered all of our questions, even those I had while on our trip (and while she was on her trip). She sent me reminders of when things were coming up or due. She sent me suggestions of things to do, eat, ride, and see. She checked in on us during our trip and made sure everything was going ok. I never once worried that something wasn’t taken care of!

A great way to get to know us, what we value, and how we will take care of your family is to listen to our podcast.  Posted twice weekly on Sundays and Wednesdays, listen to the owners of Fantastical Vacations talk about all things Disney and Universal.  From trip reports to news, Dan and Leslie don't hold back in this fun and informative podcast.  Thanks in advance for subscribing!

  • Dan Howell Travel

Dan Howell Travel has been in business since 2003 directed by Dan who had 15 years’ experience as an agent prior to starting his own company. The travel agents working with Dan are Karen, with 30 years’ experience, Ray, who excels at putting together foreign individual travel for all who require it, and Jodi who has been in the business for many years. The combined travel experience and work experience of the agents at Dan Howell Travel are what have made the company extremely successful and very popular with their consistently returning and their new clients. We believe that experience with the destinations is as important as sending our clients to them so our agents have a wide travel experience and are ever striving to increase their knowledge of the world.

Dan Howell Travel serves a very wide and diverse clientele. We book for all customers but we also cater to the needs of special interest groups. Whenever we have a special interest group you will find a Dan Howell representative with the group guiding specially designed shore excursions, making special pre and post arrangements, as well as throwing either a special welcome party or a specially designed party during the trip.

Dan Howell Travel, www.danhowelltravel.com , can be reached at 866-541-2187. Dan’s email is [email protected] , Karen’s [email protected] ,  Ray [email protected] , and Jodi [email protected]   We do not charge for our services except a small fee for airline tickets. However if there is ever a problem with that ticket we are there to take care of you and it!

President of Dan Howell Travel had over 15 years of Travel Agency Management experience before opening Dan Howell Travel in the Northside region of Cincinnati in 2003.

Dan has traveled extensively throughout the world and loves to share his experiences and destination knowledge. He has served on the board of directors of several international travel organizations and has built a solid network of travel supplier contacts throughout the world.

All of our expertise in the various areas of travel allows us to arrange travel plans to fit your needs. We are committed to giving you the best service possible while providing you the best travel values available. [email protected]

Jodi has been working at Dan Howell Travel since April 2016 and is most likely the one that you will get when you call. She has worked off and on in the travel industry for over 10 years. Jodi is very knowledgeable about making reservations and she loves taking care of our clients. Making sure that our clients are happy and get the information that they need for their trip is very important to her. Although she is not a travel consultant and does not have all of the hands on, personal travel experience, she is a pro at office administration and customer service. If you have questions about travel insurance, what cruises are on the calendar or simply have a question about your reservation, she is happy to help.   [email protected]

China Travel Advisory

Travel advisory april 12, 2024, mainland china, hong kong & macau - see summaries.

Updated due to new national security legislation in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Summary:  Reconsider travel to Mainland China due to the arbitrary enforcement of local laws, including in relation to exit bans, and the risk of wrongful detentions.

Exercise increased caution when traveling to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) due to the arbitrary enforcement of local laws .

Reconsider travel to the Macau Special Administrative Region (SAR) due to a limited ability to provide emergency consular services . Exercise increased caution when traveling to the Macau SAR due to the arbitrary enforcement of local laws .

See specific risks and conditions in each jurisdiction .

Mainland China – Level 3: Reconsider Travel

Reconsider travel due to the arbitrary enforcement of local laws , including in relation to exit bans, and the risk of wrongful detentions .

Summary:  The People’s Republic of China (PRC) government arbitrarily enforces local laws, including issuing exit bans on U.S. citizens and citizens of other countries, without fair and transparent process under the law.

The Department of State has determined the risk of wrongful detention of U.S. nationals by the PRC government exists in the PRC.

U.S. citizens traveling or residing in the PRC may be detained without access to U.S. consular services or information about their alleged crime. U.S. citizens in the PRC may be subjected to interrogations and detention without fair and transparent treatment under the law.

Foreigners in the PRC, including but not limited to businesspeople, former foreign-government personnel, academics, relatives of PRC citizens involved in legal disputes, and journalists have been interrogated and detained by PRC officials for alleged violations of PRC national security laws. The PRC has also interrogated, detained, and expelled U.S. citizens living and working in the PRC.

PRC authorities appear to have broad discretion to deem a wide range of documents, data, statistics, or materials as state secrets and to detain and prosecute foreign nationals for alleged espionage. There is increased official scrutiny of U.S. and third-country firms, such as professional service and due diligence companies, operating in the PRC. Security personnel could detain U.S. citizens or subject them to prosecution for conducting research or accessing publicly available material inside the PRC.

Security personnel could detain and/or deport U.S. citizens for sending private electronic messages critical of the PRC, Hong Kong SAR, or Macau SAR governments.

In addition, the PRC government has used restrictions on travel or departure from the PRC, or so-called exit bans, to:

  • compel individuals to participate in PRC government investigations;
  • pressure family members of the restricted individual to return to the PRC from abroad;
  • resolve civil disputes in favor of PRC citizens; and
  • gain bargaining leverage over foreign governments.

U.S. citizens might only become aware of an exit ban when they attempt to depart the PRC, and there may be no available legal process to contest an exit ban in a court of law. Relatives, including minor children, of those under investigation in the PRC may become subject to an exit ban.

The PRC government does not recognize dual nationality. Dual U.S.-PRC citizens and U.S. citizens of Chinese descent may be subject to additional scrutiny and harassment. If you are a U.S. citizen and choose to enter Mainland China on travel documents other than a U.S. passport and are detained or arrested, the PRC government may not notify the U.S. Embassy or the U.S. Consulates General or allow consular access.

Check with the PRC Embassy in the United States for the most updated information on travel to the PRC. In some limited circumstances travelers to Mainland China may face additional COVID-19 testing requirements to enter some facilities or events.

The Department of State does not provide or coordinate direct medical care to private U.S. citizens abroad. U.S. citizens overseas may receive PRC-approved COVID-19 vaccine doses where they are eligible.

Do not consume drugs in the PRC or prior to arriving in the PRC. A positive drug test, even if the drug was legal elsewhere, can lead to immediate detention, fines, deportation, and/or a ban from re-entering the PRC. PRC authorities may compel cooperation with blood, urine, or hair testing. Penalties for drug offense may exceed penalties imposed in the United States.

Demonstrations : Participating in demonstrations or any other activities that authorities interpret as constituting an act of secession, subversion, terrorism, or collusion with a foreign country could result in criminal charges. Be aware of your surroundings and avoid demonstrations.

XINJIANG UYGHUR AUTONOMOUS REGION, TIBET AUTONOMOUS REGION, and TIBETAN AUTONOMOUS PREFECTURES

Extra security measures, such as security checks and increased levels of police presence and surveillance, are common in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, Tibet Autonomous Region, and Tibetan Autonomous Prefectures. Authorities may impose curfews and travel restrictions on short notice.

If you decide to travel to Mainland China:

  • Enter the PRC on your U.S. passport with a valid PRC visa and keep it with you.
  • Read the travel information page for Mainland China .
  • Enroll in the  Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP)  to receive alerts and make it easier to locate you in an emergency.
  • Avoid demonstrations.
  • Exercise caution in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
  • Avoid taking photographs of protesters or police without permission.
  • Keep a low profile.
  • If you are arrested or detained, ask police or prison officials to notify U.S. Embassy Beijing or the nearest U.S. Consulate General immediately.
  • Review the  China Country Security Report  from the Overseas Security Advisory Council.

Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) – Level 2: Exercise Increased Caution

Exercise increased caution due to the arbitrary enforcement of local laws .

Summary: Hong Kong SAR authorities have dramatically restricted civil liberties since the Government of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) imposed the Law of the PRC on Safeguarding National Security in the Hong Kong SAR on June 30, 2020. Following the Hong Kong SAR government’s enactment of its own Safeguarding National Security Ordinance on March 23, 2024, Hong Kong SAR authorities are expected to take additional actions to further restrict civil liberties.

The 2020 National Security Law outlines a broad range of vaguely defined offenses, such as acts of secession, subversion, terrorism, and collusion with foreign entities. The 2024 Safeguarding National Security Ordinance builds on this framework with additional vaguely defined offenses, such as treason, insurrection, theft of state secrets, sabotage against public infrastructure, and external interference. According to the legislation, these offenses are applicable to foreign nationals within the Hong Kong SAR and to individuals, including U.S. citizens and permanent residents, located outside its borders. Under these provisions, anyone who criticizes the PRC and/or Hong Kong SAR authorities may face arrest, detention, expulsion, and/or prosecution. Hong Kong SAR authorities are attempting to enforce these provisions against individuals, including U.S. citizens and permanent residents, residing outside of their jurisdiction by offering cash rewards for information leading to their arrests in the Hong Kong SAR.

Dual Nationality: The Hong Kong SAR government does not recognize dual nationality. Dual U.S.-PRC citizens and U.S. citizens of Chinese descent may be subject to additional scrutiny and harassment. If you are a dual U.S.-PRC citizen and enter Hong Kong SAR on a U.S. passport, and you are detained or arrested, PRC authorities are under an obligation to notify the U.S. Embassy or a U.S. Consulate General of your detention and to allow U.S. consular officials to have access to you. In practice, however, U.S. consular officers may be prevented from providing consular assistance, even to those who have entered on their U.S. passports. For more information, visit Consular Protection and Right of Abode in HK(SAR) for Dual Nationals - U.S. Consulate General Hong Kong & Macau .

Demonstrations : Participating in demonstrations or any other activities that authorities interpret as constituting an act of secession, subversion, terrorism, or collusion with a foreign country could result in criminal charges under the 2020 National Security Law and/or the 2024 Safeguarding National Security Ordinance. Be aware of your surroundings and avoid demonstrations.

If you decide to travel to the Hong Kong SAR:

  • Enter the Hong Kong SAR on your U.S. passport and keep it with you.
  • Read the travel information page for the Hong Kong SAR .
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • If you are arrested or detained, ask police or prison officials to notify U.S. Consulate General Hong Kong & Macau immediately.
  • Review the China Country Security Report from the Overseas Security Advisory Council.
  • Do not consume drugs in the Hong Kong SAR or prior to arriving in the Hong Kong SAR.
  • Follow the Department of State on  Facebook  and  Twitter . Follow U.S. Consulate General Hong Kong & Macau on  Facebook  and  Twitter .

  • Monitor local media, local transportations sites, and apps like  MTR Mobile  or  Citybus  for updates.

Macau Special Administrative Region (SAR) – Level 3: Reconsider Travel

Reconsider travel due to a limited ability to provide emergency consular services. Exercise increased caution due to the arbitrary enforcement of local laws.

Summary:  The U.S. government has a limited ability to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens in the Macau SAR due to People’s Republic of China (PRC) Ministry of Foreign Affairs travel restrictions on U.S. diplomatic personnel.

Even in an emergency, the PRC Ministry of Foreign Affairs requires all U.S. diplomatic personnel, including those accredited to the Macau SAR, to apply for and receive visas before entering the Macau SAR. Approval takes at least five to seven days, significantly limiting the U.S. government’s ability to offer timely consular services in the Macau SAR.

Dual Nationality: The Macau SAR government does not recognize dual nationality. Dual U.S.-PRC citizens and U.S. citizens of Chinese descent may be subject to additional scrutiny and harassment. If you are a dual U.S.-PRC citizen and enter the Macau SAR on a U.S. passport, and you are detained or arrested, PRC authorities are under an obligation to notify the U.S.

Demonstrations : Participating in demonstrations or any other activities that authorities interpret as constituting an act of secession, subversion, terrorism, or collusion with a foreign country could result in criminal charges. Be aware of your surroundings and avoid demonstrations.

If you decide to travel to the Macau SAR:

  • Enter the Macau SAR on your U.S. passport and keep it with you.
  • Read the travel information page for the Macau SAR .
  • If you are arrested or detained, ask police or prison officials to notify Review the China Country Security Report from the Overseas Security Advisory Council.
  • Do not consume drugs in the Macau SAR or prior to arriving in the Macau SAR.
  • Follow the Department of State on  Facebook  and  Twitter . Follow U.S. Consulate General Hong Kong & Macau on  Facebook  and  Twitter .

Will oil and gas explorers return when NZ ban lifts?

Jamie Gray

The ban on NZ oil and gas exploration is due to lift later this year. Photo / Supplied

The ban on energy exploration looks set to lift later this year but the issue for the sector remains: Will explorers return?

John Carnegie, chief executive of Energy Resources Aotearoa, says that’s the $64 million question.

At the weekend, the Government said removing the ban on petroleum exploration was part of a suite of proposed amendments to the Crown Minerals Act to deal with energy security challenges posed by declining natural gas reserves.

Carnegie, whose organisation represents the wider energy resources sector, said explorers would require greater certainty after the ban was put in place in 2018.

Since then, the big guns in the exploration world - the likes of Texas-based Anadarko, Norway’s Equinor, and California’s Chevron - have gone.

“We are hopeful that the changes will be enough to encourage new investment, but it really does come down to the magnitude of the perception of ongoing sovereign risk,” Carnegie said.

“The counter to that is that clearly, we have an energy shortfall,” he said.

The ASX futures market points to power prices being firm over the next three years due to constrained gas supply.

“We have rising energy prices and they are likely to be ongoing, so all the market signals will be there,” Carnegie said.

“Explorers will review the policy landscape and make a risk-adjusted decision.”

It takes five to 10 years after discovery to bring an oil and gas field into production - the last find to become commercial was in 2005.

Carnegie, pointing to the speed with which liquefied natural gas installations in Europe gained consent when supply from Russia suddenly became constrained, said much depends on the urgency of New Zealand’s energy situation.

He said New Zealand’s geology was known in the industry as being gas “prone” and that explorers had grounds for optimism.

In April 2020 - just a few months into the Covid-19 pandemic - Austrian oil and gas company OMV discovered hydrocarbons at an exploration well 50km off the Taranaki coast. At the time OMV postponed further drilling because of market conditions.

The Barque prospect off the Canterbury coast also had potential, as did offshore East Coast prospects, Carnegie said.

“The geology is relatively well-known and the technology is improving,” he said.

“The question is, how do we get people to re-engage to come and explore?”

Carnegie said the incumbent players - OMV, Todd, Beach Petroleum, Matahio, Westside and Greymouth Petroleum - were likely to act first when the ban lifts.

“But that all comes back to the conditions - the nature and materiality of the changes.

“Have the conditions changed significantly enough for them to warrant significant investment?”

Most of New Zealand’s electricity comes from hydro dams, wind farms, geothermal power stations, a few solar farms and thermal power stations – with some using gas as fuel.

The Government has committed to net zero emissions by 2050 and fossil fuels are being phased out.

The six largest natural gas fields are the three offshore fields, Pohokura, Māui and Kupe, and three onshore fields, Mangahewa, Tūrangi and Kapuni.

There are also 12 smaller onshore fields.

The largest user of natural gas in New Zealand is Methanex, which makes methanol.

The electricity system is the second largest user of natural gas.

The Electricity Authority says 23 per cent of the country’s electricity generation can be powered by natural gas, and that it plays an important part in ensuring security of supply.

Several gas-fired units - peakers - can quickly turn on to address supply shortfalls.

Large industrial gas users typically have contracts with gas suppliers, which specify a quantity of gas to be delivered at a certain price over a particular time.

“However, for some, the amount of contracted gas is declining, as companies begin transitioning away from fossil fuels,” the authority said in a report.

Contact Energy’s contracted gas volumes for the 12 months ahead have fallen since September 2021.

Several New Zealand gas fields are naturally declining as their fuel depletes, including Pohokura, Māui and Kapuni.

“Without new drilling, these fields may continue to produce less gas in the future,” the Electricity Authority says.

It is estimated that Pohokura’s production may fall to zero by 2032.

The Māui field produced 75 per cent less gas from 2000 to 2023.

Similarly, Kapuni produced about 57 per cent less gas from 2000 to 2023, and may fall to less than 5 petajoules in the 2040s.

“While not all gas fields are in such obvious decline, it is likely that natural gas production will fall over time without further drilling or investment,” the authority said.

Jamie Gray is an Auckland-based journalist, covering the financial markets and the primary sector. He joined the Herald in 2011.
