The Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2022, official opened today marking the start of the 29th edition of the Middle East’s largest travel and tourism exhibition.

Taking place at Dubai World Trade Centre from Monday 9 to Thursday May 12, this year’s event is more than 85% larger than ATM 2021 in terms of floorspace, with growth in every single region.

ATM 2022 features 1,500 exhibitors, representatives from 158 global destinations, and an anticipated 20,000 attendees. The live show will be followed by ATM Virtual, which will run from Tuesday 17 to Wednesday May 18.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman of Dubai Airports, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group and Chairman of Dubai World said the emirate continues to strengthen its position at the forefront of global travel and tourism recovery by hosting global events that bring together decision-makers in the sector from across the region and the globe, contributing to worldwide efforts to open new growth horizons for the industry.

Dubai’s ability to provide a safe environment for both tourism and prominent global events over the past two years and its success in overcoming the repercussions of the recent worldwide health crisis have enabled it to welcome large numbers of visitors from all over the world.

"Dubai provides a unique model for sustainable development that not only promotes economic progress within the nation but also stimulates growth in the region and broader global markets. The Arabian Travel Market provides a vital platform for tourism and travel industry leaders in the Middle East and across the world to connect and network with each other and discover new opportunities for growth, collaboration and success,” he said.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed was accompanied at the inauguration by His Excellency Helal Saeed Almarri, Director General of Dubai's Department of Economy and Tourism (DET); Vasyl Zhygalo, Portfolio Director, RX Global; Danielle Curtis, Exhibition Director Middle East, ATM; and a host of other VIPs who embarked on a tour of the show floor as the four-day event got underway in Dubai.

New this year is the ATM Draper-Aladdin Start-up Competition, which has generated a huge buzz since its launch. The initiative will see up to 15 travel, tourism, and hospitality innovators pitch for up to $500,000 of funding – not to mention the opportunity to compete for an additional $500,000 of investment as part of the hit TV show, Meet the Drapers.

  • Arabian Travel Market set to open today
  • Emaar Hospitality Group set to expand footprint across UAE, region

In addition, ATM 2022 will include in-depth buyer forums dedicated to India and Saudi Arabia; live interviews with aviation and hospitality experts; debates on the future of sports, city and responsible tourism; the ITIC-ATM Middle East Summit on tourism investment; digital influencer networking; best stand awards; and the return of ILTM Arabia, with its focus on the lucrative luxury travel market.

For the first time, the ARIVALDubai@ATM forum and the Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) will take place live in Dubai after joining remotely for ATM 2021.

ATM 2022 is part of Arabian Travel Week, a 10-day festival of travel and tourism events taking place in Dubai.

Those attending ATM in-person are encouraged to post using the hashtags #ImGoingtoATM and #ATMDubai.

ATM 2022 is held in conjunction with Dubai World Trade Centre and its strategic partners include Dubai's Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) as the Destination Partner, Emirates as the Official Airline Partner and Emaar Hospitality Group as the Official Hotel Partner.

Mapping out the future of travel might look like will be one of many topics of discussion during Arabian Travel Market , which opens on Monday at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

The event is considered a bellwether for the travel industry in the Middle East, offering an insight into the trends that will shape the year ahead.

More than 1,500 exhibiting companies are taking part in the four-day tourism showcase that will welcome about 20,000 visitors.

A total of 112 countries looking to revive their tourism numbers will be featured on the exhibition's show floor, from Japan to Jamaica and South Africa to Italy,

Travel and tourism are starting to show signs of recovery from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, with many companies starting to ramp up their recruitment as countries reopen their borders.

However, the soaring price of oil and the impact of the war in Ukraine are tempering the travel industry's expected resurgence.

“Arabian Travel Market 2022 will highlight the importance of the travel industry as we continue to address the challenges of Covid-19, while also outlining how we drive the industry forward," said Danielle Curtis, exhibition director Middle East, Arabian Travel Market.

“The tourism industry has rebounded incredibly well. As a result, we have seen a clear uptick in participation, with floor space increasing by over 85 per cent compared to the previous year and Middle East exhibitor space eclipsing 2019 levels."

During a busy ATM conference programme, industry leaders will discuss the latest trends from a cross-section of travel, including technology, transport, sustainability, events and business.

The opening session will involve Issam Kazim, of Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing, Scott Livermore, chief economist, Oxford Economics, and others discuss this year’s theme of ‘The future of international travel and tourism’.

One of the many sessions will see Andrew McEvoy, managing director of tourism at Neom, outline the vision and strategy for Saudi Arabia's $500 billion futuristic mega-city .

Zeina Dagher, chief executive, Emaar Entertainment, will give his outlook on the future of visitor attractions, traveller trends and what’s next in attraction tech and the guest experience.

The event will also see 15 travel, tourism and hospitality start-ups pitch for $500,000 of funding as part of the inaugural ATM Draper-Aladdin Start-up competition. The winner will have the chance to compete for a further $500,000 of funding on the US reality TV show Meet the Drapers .

ATM will also unveil new technology that will eliminate the need for business cards and allow exhibitors and visitors to share details, brochures and marketing material via scanners and badges.

The in-person event will be followed by the third instalment of ATM Virtual, which will take place on Tuesday, May 17 and Wednesday, May 18.

Registration open for 30th edition of Arabian Travel Market

arabian travel market location

Tourism and hospitality professionals from around the world can now register to attend Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2023, which will take place at Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) from May 1-4.

In line with its theme of ‘Working Towards Net Zero’, the 30th edition of ATM will offer a forum for industry leaders and policymakers from across the Middle East and beyond to explore challenges and opportunities related to the future of sustainable travel.

Danielle Curtis, Exhibition Director ME, Arabian Travel Market, said: “We are excited to officially open registration for the 30th edition of ATM, which will shine a spotlight on sustainability within our sector and how regional decision-makers are driving decarbonisation while maximising profitability and enhancing customer experiences.

“This year’s conference program will feature a huge range of sessions that will explore innovation and best practice related to environmental, social and governance (ESG),” Curtis added. “We expect to welcome more than 34,000 public and private sector travel, tourism and hospitality experts from around the world to ATM 2023 –including over 1,500 exhibitors and representatives from over 150 destinations – making it the perfect platform for relationship-building and knowledge-sharing that will drive tangible, sustainable change.”

The ATM 2023 conference program is being specifically developed to address sustainability issues across the travel and tourism industry, with commentary from leadership figures representing a variety of sectors such as Destinations, Travel Technology, Aviation, Cruise, Investment, Recruitment, Hotels and Hospitality.

There will also be a number of sessions dedicated to key source markets, including India and Saudi Arabia. In addition, ATM will see the return of the ATM Start-up competition where this year, seven innovative travel start-ups will pitch battle on stage to expert judges and audience as they look to showcase their solution impacting travel sustainability and recovery.

Having officially initiated its journey to net zero, the conference program will explore how innovative sustainable travel trends are likely to evolve, allowing delegates to identify growth strategies within key vertical sectors while providing a platform for regional experts to explore a sustainable future ahead of COP28, which will take place in November 2023 at Expo City Dubai.

To mark its 30th annual event, ATM and its organiser RX Global will unveil a dedicated sustainability pledge comprising 30 goals that will inform the show’s journey towards decarbonisation. In conjunction with sustainability guidelines developed for exhibitors and delegates, this pledge will also help to ensure that this year’s edition of ATM is the most sustainable in history.

The Best Stand Awards will also feature a sustainability category for the first time. Exhibiting organizations will be recognized based on the extent to which they have considered the environmental impact of their stands, as well as their efforts to reduce their carbon footprint.
