Review: ZOOM Focus Tour Golf Rangefinder
Jane Lees & Women & Golf Member Tamsin Osborne review the ZOOM Focus Tour rangefinder
Who knew there were so many Golf Rangefinders on the market these days? To date, Bushnell has been seen as the primary provider, so it was good to test out an alternative. Women & Golf's Jane took Women & Golf member Tamsin out on the course to test the ZOOM Focus Tour .
ZOOM Focus Tour - What's in the Box?
- ZOOM Focus Tour
- Instruction booklet
We liked the fact there was not excessive packaging around the items in the box. Instructions, battery & lens cleaner were all there and there was a protective covering on the rangefinder in the case.
ZOOM Focus Tour - Looks
In our opinion, the rangefinder is very simple and monochrome. Obviously, it doesn't need to be anything fancy and the silver buttons were easy to see against the black rubber casing.
The rangefinder is quite light and would be easy to hold for both large and small-handed golfers. For those with not such a steady grip, we found that two hands were better than one.
The eyepiece is easy to adjust and focus but for those wearing glasses, you would need to test it out first.
ZOOM Focus Tour - Practicalities
The ZOOM comes with a sturdy carry case that clicks easily onto your bag. You could probably clip it onto your belt too but we thought that would be a bit cumbersome - even though it only weighs 200g.
The case has a zip and elastic close mechanism. The elastic is extremely strong but we imagine this will lessen with use. Some people prefer to use the zip but we felt that elastic would allow quicker access during a game.
ZOOM Focus Tour - Performance
The Zoom has four key benefits:
- FLAG SCAN MODE - With the flag scan mode the Focus Tour picks up the flag with a simple horizontal movement. A vibration then provides immediate feedback upon target acquisition. It is very quick, a flag icon shows in viewfinder and rangefinder vibrates.
- SLOPE SWITCH - The slope mode takes into account any change in elevation to the flag. The unit will register the straight line distance to the flag, but also the Slope adjusted distance (how much to add on or take off for the slope), giving the ‘real’ length of the shot and informing the best club selection. [For tournaments, the slope mode can be quickly turned off with the switch on the side.]
- CONTINUOUS MEASUREMENT - this allows you to scan across the landscape, from hole, to trees, to bunker, delivering instant distances to the various targets.
- ULTRA BRIGHT DISPLAY - Premium optics deliver bright, vivid contrasts and a very wide field of view at 7.5 °, with targets being acquired in under half a second, even over long distances.
We love the receptiveness of the ZOOM Focus Tour. So quick to pick up distances (800m range) and lock into the flag. Plus, the continuous measurement is a real benefit to assess the lie of the land and distances between hazards.
Here's a quick video round up from ZOOM
- Study carry case
- Lightweight - only 220g
- Attach to bag or belt
- Vibration when locked on flag
- Speed - picks up distances in less than half a second
- Material - high quality and ability to wipe clean
- Warranty - 2 years
We dislike...
- Instructions - seem a little complicated & the slope mode probably needs a bit of getting used to.
- Look - pretty uninspiring. Colour - black-silver
- Size ok for people with larger hands although we felt as though we need two hands to keep still
- Initially it takes time to refresh
Final Score
Overall we liked the ZOOM Focus Tour . Distance finder is super clear although somewhat cluttered when slope mode is on. We love the continuous measurement feature giving you the ability to sweep the fairways and hazards to assess distances. It would probably suit a more experienced golfer.
Price - £299.00 RRP - good mid price for a rangefinder of this type

Zoom Focus S Golf Rangefinder Review: pin-point accurate, quick and easy to use
GolfMagic Equipment Editor Alex Lodge assessed the performance of the Zoom Focus S Golf Rangefinder, one of the more affordable products in this market.
Zoom has released a brand new golf rangefinder in the Focus S and it is without doubt the brand's most impressive product yet.
Following in the footsteps of its elder brother, the equally impressive Focus X , the main difference with the Focus S for 2022 is a much sleeker design.
It's also a little cheaper than before at £199 as opposed to £220, which instantly adds more appeal. Of the standout features of this premium golf rangefinder, the ergonomic design fits perfectly and comfortably in the palm of the hand.
Also Read: Best golf rangefinder
As much as the older Zoom Focus Tour is a better and larger design, the Focus S model is a very impressive and affordable option which gives accurate yardages that compete with the Bushnell Tour V5.
GolfMagic Equipment Editor Alex Lodge assessed the performance of the Zoom Focus S golf rangefinder over a number of rounds to discover how it benefitted his performance.

What is the Zoom Focus S Golf Rangefinder all about?
Crystal-clear optics lead the way in this stylish new design, with a super wide 7° field of vision, 6x magnification, ultra-bright LCD display and an adjustable eyepiece to cater for golfers with different levels of vision.
The premium optics combine with a host of practical features to make a golfer's life on the course easier such as vibration feedback, slope mode, flag scan mode and continuous measurement for scanning the course.
Flag scan mode is the feature which utilises vibration feedback. When you successfully pick up your target, the golf rangefinder will buzz and you are ready to go.
This product is approved for tournament play when the slope function is switched off. It is available in black/silver and black colourways, as you can check out online.
Zoom has also brought back one of its most popular features from the Focus X with a micro USB rechargeable battery that lasts over 50 rounds on one full charge.
At just 170g and with an ergonomic design that fits perfectly in the hand, the Focus S is a dream to use on the course. Each unit comes with a protective carry case that includes a carabiner so that it can hang from a golf bag, and a bungee attachment for quick, easy access.
These neat features mean the new Focus S is a practical addition to a golfer's gear both when it's needed and when it isn't. This impressive unit does everything a golfer needs and nothing less, in a stylish, practical package.
Without question one of the best golf rangefinders on the market right now. While some £20 less than its predecessor, it does everything you could possibly wish for and it's highly accurate. It's light, comfortable in the hand and just so easy to operate out on the golf course.
We also found the yardages were consistently solid during the round with the ability to lock in on the flag a big bonus as it avoided picking out one of the trees beyond the green.
Some players out there consider golf rangefinders to contribute to slow play, but with the Focus S you are wasting little time in locking down your yardage so there is no danger of that happening.

Zoom Focus X Laser Rangefinder Review
More in reviews:.
50 Words or Less
The Zoom Focus X rangefinder is a quick, compact laser rangefinder. A rechargeable battery eliminates the need to carry a backup.
Introduction
We seem to have reached a point with laser rangefinders where there are no more major breakthroughs. From slope to improved optics to speed, we’ve seen it all before. The Zoom Focus X doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel, but it offers many top of the line features – plus something unusual – at a very affordable price.
Set Up & Ease of Use
The Zoom Focus X rangefinder is a s easy to use as any that I’ve tested . Pushing the red button powers it up, another press gives you a yardage. There is another button just in front of the red one that toggles the slope feature and also switches between yards and meters. The Focus X displays thoughtful design – the slope button is set lower than the power button making button errors very rare.
One unusual thing about the Focus X is that it’s powered by a rechargeable battery . It charges through a micro USB port near the eyepiece. My Focus X was ready to go right out the box, and I rang up over 200 yardages during my testing. After all that, the low battery indicator did not appear, so it seems that one charge should be good for multiple rounds.
Zoom’s website does not indicate how long one charge should last or how long it takes to fully charge the battery. I like the idea of a rechargeable battery, but I do wish that there was a battery life indicator on the Focus X rather than just a low battery indicator.
*UPDATE: Per Zoom, the battery should last 30 hours on a single charge.
Accuracy & Performance
As always, we’ll start with the most important piece: accuracy . I tested the Zoom Focus X against several other top shelf rangefinders, and it performed very well . Readings between the different units was always within one yard.
The Focus X is also very quick . With or without the slope adjustment turned on, yardages displayed the moment that my finger was off the power button. I’ve tested units that are slightly quicker, but the difference between them is completely meaningless.
Another notable thing about the Focus X is its size. While the size differences between rangefinders isn’t immense, the Focus X is one of the most compact units . It’s also lighter – 178 grams vs the 256 grams of the Bushnell Pro X2 [review HERE ].
The Zoom Focus X rangefinder retails for $200. At that price, you get the laser, the charging cable, and the carrying case shown above. This a very strong value, particularly given that you won’t have to buy expensive batteries.
If you’re in the market for a compact rangefinder with speed and accuracy, the Zoom Focus X will fit the bill. While I hope to see a battery life indicator in future versions, the fact that you’ll never have to track down a CR2 battery is an attractive feature.

Biggest failure is micro USB, come on, why not just use USB-C instead of something that is dated.
This is pretty much the exact range finder I’ve been waiting for.
I totally agree that we seem to have reached a point with laser rangefinders where there are no more major breakthroughs.
What I’d like to see is improvement on some of the existing features. Bushnell putting the magnet on the side so it sticks to the cart is a great feature. Why isn’t everyone else copying that? I have a Nikon and I bought a $10 rubber skin case and stuffed some magnets inside it to add that feature, but I’d love for that to be built in considering the price I paid.
I use a Nikon because of their stabilization feature and they use larger font which is easier for my aging eyes to read. Why does Bushnell insist on being so small on the font?
Just some examples of how a perfect rangefinder still doesn’t exist, even though it should by now…

Gagarin cup (khl) finals: atlant moscow oblast vs. salavat yulaev ufa.
Much like the Elitserien Finals, we have a bit of an offense vs. defense match-up in this league Final. While Ufa let their star top line of Alexander Radulov, Patrick Thoresen and Igor Grigorenko loose on the KHL's Western Conference, Mytischi played a more conservative style, relying on veterans such as former NHLers Jan Bulis, Oleg Petrov, and Jaroslav Obsut. Just reaching the Finals is a testament to Atlant's disciplined style of play, as they had to knock off much more high profile teams from Yaroslavl and St. Petersburg to do so. But while they did finish 8th in the league in points, they haven't seen the likes of Ufa, who finished 2nd.
This series will be a challenge for the underdog, because unlike some of the other KHL teams, Ufa's top players are generally younger and in their prime. Only Proshkin amongst regular blueliners is over 30, with the work being shared by Kirill Koltsov (28), Andrei Kuteikin (26), Miroslav Blatak (28), Maxim Kondratiev (28) and Dmitri Kalinin (30). Oleg Tverdovsky hasn't played a lot in the playoffs to date. Up front, while led by a fairly young top line (24-27), Ufa does have a lot of veterans in support roles: Vyacheslav Kozlov , Viktor Kozlov , Vladimir Antipov, Sergei Zinovyev and Petr Schastlivy are all over 30. In fact, the names of all their forwards are familiar to international and NHL fans: Robert Nilsson , Alexander Svitov, Oleg Saprykin and Jakub Klepis round out the group, all former NHL players.
For Atlant, their veteran roster, with only one of their top six D under the age of 30 (and no top forwards under 30, either), this might be their one shot at a championship. The team has never won either a Russian Superleague title or the Gagarin Cup, and for players like former NHLer Oleg Petrov, this is probably the last shot at the KHL's top prize. The team got three extra days rest by winning their Conference Final in six games, and they probably needed to use it. Atlant does have younger regulars on their roster, but they generally only play a few shifts per game, if that.
The low event style of game for Atlant probably suits them well, but I don't know how they can manage to keep up against Ufa's speed, skill, and depth. There is no advantage to be seen in goal, with Erik Ersberg and Konstantin Barulin posting almost identical numbers, and even in terms of recent playoff experience Ufa has them beat. Luckily for Atlant, Ufa isn't that far away from the Moscow region, so travel shouldn't play a major role.
I'm predicting that Ufa, winners of the last Superleague title back in 2008, will become the second team to win the Gagarin Cup, and will prevail in five games. They have a seriously well built team that would honestly compete in the NHL. They represent the potential of the league, while Atlant represents closer to the reality, as a team full of players who played themselves out of the NHL.
- Atlant @ Ufa, Friday Apr 8 (3:00 PM CET/10:00 PM EST)
- Atlant @ Ufa, Sunday Apr 10 (1:00 PM CET/8:00 AM EST)
- Ufa @ Atlant, Tuesday Apr 12 (5:30 PM CET/12:30 PM EST)
- Ufa @ Atlant, Thursday Apr 14 (5:30 PM CET/12:30 PM EST)
Games 5-7 are as yet unscheduled, but every second day is the KHL standard, so expect Game 5 to be on Saturday, like an early start.
The Unique Burial of a Child of Early Scythian Time at the Cemetery of Saryg-Bulun (Tuva)
<< Previous page
Pages: 379-406
In 1988, the Tuvan Archaeological Expedition (led by M. E. Kilunovskaya and V. A. Semenov) discovered a unique burial of the early Iron Age at Saryg-Bulun in Central Tuva. There are two burial mounds of the Aldy-Bel culture dated by 7th century BC. Within the barrows, which adjoined one another, forming a figure-of-eight, there were discovered 7 burials, from which a representative collection of artifacts was recovered. Burial 5 was the most unique, it was found in a coffin made of a larch trunk, with a tightly closed lid. Due to the preservative properties of larch and lack of air access, the coffin contained a well-preserved mummy of a child with an accompanying set of grave goods. The interred individual retained the skin on his face and had a leather headdress painted with red pigment and a coat, sewn from jerboa fur. The coat was belted with a leather belt with bronze ornaments and buckles. Besides that, a leather quiver with arrows with the shafts decorated with painted ornaments, fully preserved battle pick and a bow were buried in the coffin. Unexpectedly, the full-genomic analysis, showed that the individual was female. This fact opens a new aspect in the study of the social history of the Scythian society and perhaps brings us back to the myth of the Amazons, discussed by Herodotus. Of course, this discovery is unique in its preservation for the Scythian culture of Tuva and requires careful study and conservation.
Keywords: Tuva, Early Iron Age, early Scythian period, Aldy-Bel culture, barrow, burial in the coffin, mummy, full genome sequencing, aDNA

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.
Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.
Belfry and Neighbouring Churches
Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.
To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.
Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral
The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.
Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.
Tsaritsa's Chambers
The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.
At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.
Palace of Tsar Alexis
The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.

Why you can trust Golf Monthly Our expert reviewers spend hours testing and comparing products and services so you can choose the best for you. Find out more about how we test .
The new OLED Pro rangefinder from Zoom promises up to three times brighter and a whopping five times sharper optics than previous models such as the Focus Tour , Focus X and Focus S .
This is all down to the use of OLED (Organic-Light-Emitting Diodes), more commonly found in high-end television sets than in golf rangefinders! I have to say the visual is significantly clearer than on any other best golf rangefinders I have tested and is genuinely helpful when using the lens to scope out a hole even without using the yardage function. I will often use my rangefinder to get a better view of a hole or even a flag position and the OLED technology elevates that strategy even further.
Through the lens of the OLED Pro, I can very clearly see the contours of the green from a long way out, which really helps to inform course management decisions such as which side of a green will yield an easier chip or putt relative to the flag position.
The functionality of the OLED Pro is very smooth and intuitive. Switching between yards and meters or turning slope on and off are both as simple as one flick of a finger, comfortably placing it among the best golf rangefinders with slope . You can also nip between ‘Flagpole scanning’ mode and a free scan with one simple press of a button too.
The focus is controlled simply by twisting the lens you look through to further sharpen your view and really take advantage of that OLED tech.
From a looks and feel point of view, I liked the OLED Pro. It is nice and compact and the leather style gripping area feels very much at the premium end of the market. The protective is case is reasonable although because of the very smooth texture, it does mark up quite easily.
When you lock on to your required target, you are greeted with a reassuring vibration in your hand and whilst it is unlikely you will need it, the OLED Pro has a range of up to 1200 yards.
For those who play a lot of their golf riding in a cart, it features a magnetic lock system that allows you to secure it conveniently to the vehicle. Having personally tried this function, I can testify to its strength and users will be able to drive along happily without any fear of the OLED Pro coming loose.
The OLED Pro comes with a rechargeable Lithium Ion battery that Zoom says lasts over 5000 measurements. Unfortunately I didn’t have the time to take 5000 so we’ll just have to take them at their word here! When a charge is required, a low battery indicator appears in plenty of time to take action.
Overall I really liked the Zoom OLED Pro. The sheer clarity of display is the obvious standout feature but it ticks most other boxes that I require in a rangefinder too.

Burial 5 was the most unique, it was found in a coffin made of a larch trunk, with a tightly closed lid. The interred individual retained the skin on his face and had a leather ...
