Here's Where You Can Stream Or Buy Every Season Of Star Trek: The Next Generation

Star Trek: The Next Generation

(Welcome to Where to Watch , which provides a clear and simple answer to the question, "Hey, where can I watch this thing?" In this edition: "Star Trek: the Next Generation")

"Star Trek: The Next Generation" debuted in 1987 as what would eventually make-good on the promise of Gene Roddenberry's 1966 original. After leaving the air after an inauspicious three seasons, the original "Star Trek" would find a second life in syndication, and a growing legion of fans would slowly form around the show, eventually gathering at conventions to trade trivia and merchandise. As these conventions continued throughout the 1970s, actors from the show would begin making appearances at these cons, and Roddenberry himself would begin going on speaking tours, conversing with the fans and codifying — to the fans and to himself — the show's themes of optimism, positive views on technology, and progressive politics. After Roddenberry was locked out of the "Star Trek" feature films in the 1980s, he wanted to come back to TV with a "proper" version of Trek, complete with a diverse cast, more conflict-free stories, and a more carefully thought-out philosophy and continuity.

Thus was born "Star Trek: The Next Generation," a TV series with two rocky seasons, four excellent ones, and one that's up for debate.

Star Trek is Still Everywhere

Star Trek: The Next Generation Picard and Data

As has been previously mentioned in the hallowed pages of this venerable website, "Star Trek" is everywhere. The entire series run of "The Next Generation" is currently available to subscribers of Paramount+ (natch),  Netflix , and  Prime Video . Subscribers to DirecTV also have access to scattered episodes from seasons four, five, and six (arguably the best ones). You can also buy and download the series from Amazon , and AppleTV/iTunes (where it's $2.99 an episode, $29.99 per season), or the Google Play store and Vudu (where it's $1.99 per episode, $29.99 per season).

If you prefer physical copies, boy howdy, does "NextGen" have you covered. Starting in 1991, the show was issued by Paramount (in the United States), episode by episode on VHS . This was a dream for collectors, but a headache for those trying to save shelf space. That same year, Columbia House (remember them?) offered a mail-order subscription service which offered larger, cleaner packaging and two episode per cassette. As the years went on, and the series only increased in popularity, specialty box sets were issued, including a box set with all the Borg episodes , a box with four notable Data episodes , and a two-in-one box that featured only the first and last episodes of the series .

When it came to DVDs in the U.S., "The Next Generation" was initially released in 2002, with each full season boxed in a very keen, looks-great-on-a-shelf silver package. These DVDs were highly coveted and came with a sizeable price tag. In 2006, once all seven seasons had been released, they were packaged together in a large cardboard trough. In 2013, the same DVDs were released again, only this time with less interesting box art — each season sported a stylized portrait of one of the main characters — and slimmer, plastic cases. If none of those editions were appealing, a large green brick containing the entire series released in 2007 (in honor of the show's 20th anniversary), which wasn't nearly as gorgeous as the Borg Cube set released in England in 2003.

The Updated Blu-rays

Worf

But VHS and DVD are formats of the past, old man. Where's the HD-DVD or Blu-ray editions? After the success of the 2006 Blu-ray remasterings of the original series (wherein the show's special effects needed to be redone digitally as the original FX masters were, in many cases, no longer viable), CBS decided to do the same with "Next Generation" in 2012. There was a minor controversy with these Blu-rays and the studio chose to add motivation for fans to buy the series one more time: a new slate of special features and the like — but only if you bought certain versions at certain big box stores. This came after CBS had promised explicitly not to do that very thing. The new features were excellent, however, even if they were split up, causing all collectors to wail and rend their garments.

A man named Robert Meyer Burnett (director of the film "Free Enterprise") oversaw the special features, and explained that the studio spent $12 million to track down all its original assents, scan them digitally, and re-do many of the effects in CGI. It was a huge process, but the Blu-rays do look excellent while still retaining the 1990s look of the show.

The Blu-rays of "The Next Generation" are great, but because they were released at the same time the series started popping up on streaming, sales were less than impressive. Like with the DVDs and VHS editions, there were specialty Blu-ray box sets that bundled together commonly-themed episodes, like the Q episodes or particular two-parters. In 2016, an impressively stacked, but shoddily boxed complete-series Blu-ray set hit the market. It was the last time we saw the show released, and may be the last time on home video. Well, at least until another notable anniversary hits.

The Janet Jackson Super Bowl Scandal Led to More Star Trek

Star Trek: The Next Generation Crew

Follow me for a moment.

In 2004, Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake performed at the Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime show, and, if you know your history ( or saw the recent documentary ), you are familiar with that event's introduction of the phrase "wardrobe malfunction" into the vernacular. The scandal surrounding this event led to a ban of all future halftime shows on MTV, owned by the entertainment giant Viacom, which also owned Paramount and "Star Trek." This worsened an already-bubbling corporate rivalry between the head of Viacom's CBS brand, Les Moonves, and the head of MTV, Tom Freston. The head of Viacom decided to keep them apart, and split Viacom into two smaller companies in 2005. It was pretty much a schism between CBS and Paramount.

This split meant, in short, that one company owned the TV rights to "Star Trek," and another owned the movie rights. It was during this time that the two companies tried to "out-Trek" each other, as it were, with the TV side of things pushing the multiple home video and streaming editions. Because it was one of CBS' most recognizable brands, they sold "Trek" everywhere, and most of the Trek shows are now widely available on most streaming platforms. CBS would also end up shamelessly milking the "Trek" brand with brand new shows like " Star Trek: Discovery " on CBS All Access (now Paramount+).

The Paramount side that owned the movies tried to reboot the series on the big screen. Because of obnoxious legal details, the new movies had to be a certain percentage distinct from the original series — hence the creation of a new timeline with a new design. We can blame a corporate split on both the creation of the Kelvin-verse, and the push toward "Discovery." The two brands re-merged in 2019, thank goodness. Although some might say the damage has been done.

In short: If there hadn't been a wardrobe scandal at the Super Bowl 17 years ago, "Star Trek" would be a lot cleaner today.

Star Trek: The Next Generation

The new Starship Enterprise and its crew set out "to boldly go where no one has gone before". Their first mission is to explore the creation of the Farpoint station located on planet Deneb IV.

An omnipotent being known as Q, who accuses humanity of barbarism, and places them on trial. Jean-Luc must prove otherwise, or the human race will be annihilated.

While examining the mysterious deaths of the entire crew on board the Starship Tsiolkovsky, the crew of the Enterprise is infected with a touch-transmitted virus that lowers inhibitions.

Tasha Yar must fight for her life, and a vaccine that will save a race of people, when she is kidnapped and forced to battle her abductor's wife.

A powerful entity disables the Enterprise and a Ferengi ship. Their only means of escape is if they can correctly answer the riddles he asks.

The Enterprise is flung across space into a distant galaxy over 2,700,000 light years away when a propulsion engineer, and his mysterious companion, attempt to re-design the ship's engine systems.

How to stream the Star Trek Movies in the US

Here's our Star Trek streaming guide, so you know where to go boldly where you've never gone before... Without leaving your sofa. We've come up with this Star Trek streaming guide because since the first ever episode aired back in 1966, there's been  a huge number of additions into the franchise.

Star Trek is currently in a bit of a purple patch for content as Paramount Plus , which is the home of all things Star Trek, is responsible for several new shows in recent years. But, it's not just new content, you'll also find where to stream the classics both movies and TV series below.

Before, Star Trek content was scattered all around different streaming services and searching for what you wanted to watch could feel like hunting for a cloaked Bird of Prey. However, these days you're able to stream all Star Trek content out there on Paramount Plus. However, we do have round-ups of the best sci-fi movies and TV shows on Netflix , Disney Plus and Amazon if you want to check them out.

You can also check out our take on the Star Trek movies, ranked so you know which movies to beam up onto your device. While Paramount Plus has everything Star Trek out there, you can find the odd bit of content on other platforms. So, below you'll find where you can watch what, regardless of where you're based, in our Star Trek streaming guide.

The Star Trek movies can be divided into three tidy groups: the original cast, the Next Generation cast, and the reboot cast. All of them can be found on Paramount+. However, Paramount+ isn't the only place you can stream the movies and in some cases you can rent or buy from places such as Amazon .

Here’s how to stream the Star Trek movies in the U.S., in order of release:

When it comes to Star Trek on the small screen, you can find them all in one place. Paramount+ not only has every episode of every legacy Trek show, it’s also the home of all the new Star Trek programming, such as Picard and Strange New Worlds. If you’re a Trekkie, you absolutely want to have Paramount+ to keep up with the object of your affection. A word of warning though, other streaming platforms may only have select episodes or series to stream.

Now that Paramount+ has arrived in the U.K, streaming Star Trek is a lot easier. You can view most of the movies on the streaming platform. Star Trek Beyond is the exception but that can be found on Amazon Prime. If you're not prepared to subscribe to Paramount+, the movies are available to rent or buy from a number of different platforms.

Star Trek: The Next Generation - Picard, Ryker, and Troi

Now that Paramount+ has reached those across the pond, the U.K. can enjoy streaming Star Trek shows as well. Netflix is also another great option to fulfil your Trekkie viewing needs, especially if you're interested in checking out Star Trek: The Animated Series, which is exclusive to Netflix.

However, for the likes of Picard and Lower Decks, you’ll have to hop on over to Amazon Prime. It's worth noting that platforms such as SkyGo may only have a select number of episodes or series to stream.

Star Trek Is Spread Out Across 3 Streaming Services Now - Where To Watch

  • Star Trek fans can find every Star Trek show except Star Trek: Prodigy on Paramount+.
  • Paramount+ is the streaming home for all Chris Pine Star Trek movies.
  • The 6 Star Trek: The Original Series movies and 4 Star Trek: The Next Generation movies can be found on Max.

The Star Trek franchise is now spread across three separate streaming services, meaning that fans may wish to have a road map to find where they can watch their favorite Trek shows and movies. For clarity, this split is for Star Trek fans in the US, as the specifics of geo-blocking and streaming rights vary from country to country. However, US fans aren't alone in having multiple ways to access the franchise. For example, Star Trek fans in the UK can still watch all the legacy shows on Netflix until their streaming rights lapse, while Paramount+ has everything bar Star Trek: Prodigy .

Meanwhile, in the United States, Paramount+ holds the majority of Star Trek , with some notable exceptions. Paramount+ controversially removed Star Trek: Prodigy when the show was canceled in 2023. At the start of 2024, the pre-Abrams Star Trek movies have a new streaming home as part of an existing deal with another streamer . With some confusion over which shows and movies are on which streamer, it's a good time to look at the three different streaming homes for Star Trek in 2024.

Only Chris Pines Star Trek Movies Remain On Paramount Plus, Fans Unhappy

Every star trek tv series except star trek: prodigy is on paramount+.

Paramount+ subscribers can watch everything from Star Trek: The Original Series all the way to its 2020s prequel series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. It's the perfect way for Star Trek fans to draw links across the franchise, allowing subscribers to travel from the world of Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Picard 's 24th century to the far future of Star Trek: Discovery . The final season of Star Trek: Discovery premieres on Paramount+ in April , as Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and the crew of the USS Discovery embark on an intergalactic treasure hunt.

Later in 2024, Star Trek: Lower Decks season 5 will premiere in late Summer/early Fall , picking up on Lower Decks ' season 4's cliffhanger ending . As Lower Decks is a love letter to the franchise's prolific 1990s period, fans have a chance to prepare for more deep-cut references via revisiting 90s classics like Star Trek: Deep Space Nine on Paramount+. Showrunner Mike McMahan has also expressed his desire to show some love to Scott Bakula's Star Trek: Enterprise in Lower Decks season 5, making it a perfect time to revisit the prequel show on Paramount+.

Fans of animation can also revisit Lower Decks ' predecessor, Star Trek: The Animated Series , which, despite fan arguments over its canonicity, takes pride of place among the other Trek shows on Paramount+. Star Trek 's other animated series, Star Trek: Prodigy isn't on Paramount+ , owing to its cancelation in 2023. The absence of the backdoor Star Trek: Voyager sequel show on Paramount+ does mean that fans of Captain Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) and her heroic crew will have to look elsewhere to see how their story continued after returning to the Alpha Quadrant.

J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Movies Are On Paramount+

J.J. Abrams and Chris Pine's Star Trek movies are also available on Paramount+, representing the franchise's Kelvin timeline. The Kelvin timeline trilogy begins with 2009's Star Trek , in which a crew of young cadets become the heroic crew of the USS Enterprise while foiling the plans of Nero (Eric Bana) in an alternate timeline of his own creation. And then, Star Trek into Darkness remakes the beloved Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan with mixed results, casting Benedict Cumberbatch as Khan Noonien-Singh, and introducing Alice Eve as a young Dr. Carol Marcus.

J.J. Abrams' Star Trek movies featured Leonard Nimoy's final appearances as Spock , who acted as a mentor to his younger self, played by Zachary Quinto. The third movie, 2016's Star Trek Beyond, paid tribute to the late Leonard Nimoy, and celebrated the franchise's 50th anniversary. With all three of the J.J. Abrams Star Trek movies available on Paramount+, fans have the chance to compare the performances of the exceptional Kelvin timeline cast with their Star Trek: The Original Series predecessors. In doing so, they can see how perfect Abrams' Star Trek movie cast were.

Rebel Moon Proves Star Trek Blew It With J.J. Abrams Movies Best New Character

6 star trek: the original series movies & 4 star trek: the next generation movies are on max.

10 Star Trek movies are currently streaming on Max and are no longer available on Paramount+. All six of the Star Trek: The Original Series movies and the four Star Trek: The Next Generation movies switched to Max on New Year's Day 2024. A similar thing happened before, when Max streamed the 10 TOS and TNG movies on the service between November 2022 and July 2023, suggesting that this is likely a temporary arrangement. Until further notice, however, fans in the US who wish to stream classics like Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan or Star Trek: First Contact will have to do so via Max.

It's worth pointing out that distribution and streaming rights are different for movies than they are for TV shows, which could explain the temporary agreement between Paramount+ and Max. Many of the Star Trek movies were big commercial hits that had broad crossover appeal for theater audiences. It makes sense, therefore, for a streamer like Max to pick such broadly enjoyable Trek movies like Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home to feature on the service during the cold and miserable winter months.

Star Trek: Prodigy is streaming on Netflix

After being canceled by Paramount+, Star Trek: Prodigy spent the second half of 2023 looking for a new streaming home. Prodigy 's cancelation was particularly surprising because a second season was already well into development at the time that the axe fell. The prospect of 20 brand-new episodes of a Star Trek show must have sweetened the deal for Netflix, who bought the streaming rights for Star Trek: Prodigy seasons 1 and 2. Prodigy premiered on Netflix on Christmas Day 2023 , and all 20 episodes of season 1 are available to stream on the service.

Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 will premiere later in 2024, although it's unclear if it will have a weekly release schedule or be dropped on Netflix in one go. Prodigy season 2 is one of the big Star Trek highlights of 2024 so it does feel odd that it will be taking place on Netflix, rather than on Paramount+. Regardless, the wealth of Star Trek shows and movies available to stream across multiple platforms highlights the broad appeal of the franchise to viewers new and old.

Every Star Trek show except Star Trek: Prodigy is now streaming on Paramount+.

Every Chris Pine Star Trek movie is streaming now on Paramount+.

The 6 TOS and 4 TNG movies are streaming now on Max.

All episodes of Star Trek: Prodigy season 1 are streaming now on Netflix.

  • Goofs It is claimed that Data can't use contractions (Can't, Isn't, Don't, etc) yet there are several instances throughout the series where he does. One of the first such examples is heard in Encounter at Farpoint (1987) , where Data uses the word "Can't" while the Enterprise is being chased by Q's "ship".

Every Star Trek: TNG 2-Part Episode Ranked, Worst To Best

Jeri ryan's seven of nine costumes in star trek: voyager made no sense, this star trek: voyager episode subtly confirmed captain kirk broke a tos promise.

Star Trek: Voyager copied one of Star Trek: The Next Generation 's best storytelling choices, giving both shows a unique aspect during the franchise's classic era. Both Voyager and TNG are distinctive entries in the franchise, with their own hallmarks and things that set them apart from other series. TNG acted as the blueprint for Star Trek 's cadre of shows in the 1990s, but Voyager 's cast of characters and setting pushed the franchise into new territory in terms of science fiction concepts and diversity.

Still, out of all the classic Star Trek TV shows , Voyager and TNG arguably have the most in common. Voyager was an attempt by Star Trek 's creative team to return to more TNG -style storytelling , combating the innovative but more serialized arcs that Star Trek: Deep Space Nine created while it and Voyager aired at the same time. In terms of character dynamics and plot, Voyager also hit closer to TNG than either DS9 or Star Trek: Enterprise. This included one storytelling choice that set both TNG and Voyager up for success each season.

Star Trek: Voyager And TNG Ended Most Seasons With Two-Parters

Only two seasons from each show didn't end with two-part episodes.

Except for two seasons each, Star Trek: Voyager and The Next Generation ended every season with the first part of a two-parter. Two-parters often include some of the franchise's best storylines, so on the whole, it isn't surprising that Voyager and TNG choose to use them liberally. The only four seasons where they weren't employed were TNG seasons 1 and 2 and Voyager seasons 1 and 4 . In TNG 's case, the show was just getting its feet under it in terms of storytelling, and for Voyager , its initial avoidance was due to scheduling issues at the end of season 1.

DS9 didn't end any of its seasons with two-parters, but this was likely because the show already employed serialized storytelling that flowed from one episode to the next more seamlessly.

However, every other season of both shows ended with a Part 1, while the next season opener picked up with the second part. Surprisingly, this made both TNG and Voyager unique in the 1990s era of Star Trek . DS9 didn't end any of its seasons with two-parters, but this was likely because the show already employed serialized storytelling that flowed from one episode to the next more seamlessly. Likewise, Enterprise only ended one of its seasons with a two-parter, instead choosing to use them in the middle of seasons as a way to incorporate more contained arcs.

Why Star Trek Two-Parters Make Great Season Finales And Openers

Two-parters were one of 1990's star trek's greatest strengths.

While there was nothing wrong with the way DS9 and Enterprise used two-parters, Voyager and TNG 's model arguably found the greatest success with them . Star Trek two-parters are often big productions, and while they can work well in the middle of a season, saving up the bandwidth for a season finale or season opener tends to inflate their importance and lead to much greater popularity for the episode. This was certainly the case with TNG , whose two-part episode "The Best of Both Worlds" is often considered one of the best Star Trek episodes of all time .

Star Trek: The Next Generation had some truly amazing two-part episodes over the course of its seven seasons.

Two-parters also provide a built-in cliffhanger and hook to bring audiences back for more the following season. While this could be seen as an obvious ploy, there's no denying that it works. Other series outside of the Star Trek franchise often use this technique with their season finales as well, although Star Trek shows often denote it more explicitly. In the case of Voyager and TNG , both ramped up their use of this cliffhanger tactic in later seasons , with Star Trek: Voyager especially creating some truly memorable installments in later years like "Equinox" or "Unimatrix Zero."

Cloaked Planet — The Travelers’ world is concealed between quantum realities that effectively cloaks the planet. Cloaked planets have appeared in Star Trek before, such as Aldea in “Where the Bough Breaks” and the planet Meridian in the Deep Space Nine, which shifts between realities.

The Travelers — As the crew of the Infinity arrives on the planet Wesley Crusher has sent them to find, they discover a base of operations for the Travelers, the race of beings who control space, time, and thought first encountered in The Next Generation episode “Where No One Has Gone Before.” There is a statue of a being who looks just like the Traveler introduced in that episode, played by Erik Menyuk. (Menyuk has a voice cameo of the echo of a conversation between Wesley and the Travelers about saving the Prime Universe.)

Vault Door — The mid-21st century Earth vault door is a callback to The Original Series episode “Assignment: Earth” and Star Trek: Picard Season 2. The latter of the two was where Star Trek first established a link between the Travelers and the Supervisors from TOS.

where is star trek tng streaming

Wesley Crusher — Wesley Crusher returns – his second appearance in modern Star Trek (after Picard Season 2’s “Farewell”). Prodigy goes much deeper than the quick Picard cameo to establish who Wesley is now, but one thing he hasn’t abandoned is his love of sweaters.   The sweater Wesley wears in this episode (and the rest of the season) is an homage to his early season one sweater from The Next Generation. Rok-Tahk describes him as “member of Nova Squadron” (seen in “The First Duty”), “genius of the Enterprise D, made acting ensign at age 15.”

where is star trek tng streaming

Janeway Hates Time Travel — Admiral Janeway’s distaste for time travel is a long running joke from Star Trek: Voyager – the past is the future, the future is the past, sooner or later it starts to just give me a headache – and that continues into Prodigy.

where is star trek tng streaming

Janeway’s Three Rules — Admiral Janeway’s three rules for captaining a starship – keep your shirt tucked in, go down with the ship, and never abandon a member of your crew – were first shared with Naomi Wildman in the Voyager episode “Dark Frontier.”

where is star trek tng streaming

The ‘Star Trek’ Multiverse — In explaining the concept of different universes and timelines (“quantum timelines, alternate realities, planes of existence”) to the Infinity crew, Crusher lists a number of realities that Star Trek fans are familiar with – the Prime Universe, the Mirror Universe (from The Original Series, Deep Space Nine, and Discovery), the Narada Incursion (from Star Trek 2009, Into Darkness, and Beyond), Fluidic Space (Voyager’s “Scorpion”), and the Mycelial Plane (from Discovery, though Wesley acknowledges the crew aren’t supposed to know about that).   Wesley acknowledges that his fondness for the Prime Universe, and commitment to saving it from annihilation, is driven in part by the fact that his mother – Doctor Beverly Crusher – calls the Prime Universe home.

where is star trek tng streaming

Temporal Wars — The Temporal Wars (first seen in Star Trek: Enterprise and referenced several times on Star Trek: Discovery) get another namecheck here, with Wesley admitting that after the Temporal Wars, there are not many Travelers left to repair broken timelines.

where is star trek tng streaming

Quantum Signatures — Wesley tells the Infinity crew that he needs to align their quantum signatures. The idea that an individual has a quantum signature that is specific to their unique timeline or universe is first established in The Next Generation episode “Parallels.”

where is star trek tng streaming

Assignment: Earth — At the end of the episode, the Infinity crew and Welsey flee through the vault door to a room that mirrors Gary Seven’s office from “Assignment: Earth,” further confirming the direct connection between the Travelers and the Supervisors. Early in part 2, Crusher describes the supervisors as “field agents, who work in other time periods.”

“The Devourer of All Things, Part II”

where is star trek tng streaming

Apollo 7 — The newspaper in the “Assignment: Earth” style office is dated for the Apollo 7 launch in 1968, which was the year that the episode was set.

where is star trek tng streaming

Wall of Heroes — Commander Tysses swears he’ll keep Maj’el safe “on the blood of my ancestors at the Wall of Heroes.” The Wall of Heroes was established in the Enterprise episode “United” as an Andorian memorial on the homeworld where the blood of Andorian Imperial Guardsman who died offworld was returned.

where is star trek tng streaming

Battle Bridge — The Voyager-A has a battle bridge, similar to the Enterprise-D.

where is star trek tng streaming

Level 10 Force Field — The Doctor attempts to erect level 10 forcefields to repel the advance of the Loom. A level 10 forcefield has previously been established to be the strongest forcefield available to Starfleet.

where is star trek tng streaming

Janeway’s Undershirt — Admiral Janeway’s decision to remove her uniform jacket to take on the Loom echoes a similar decision in the Voyager episode “Macrocosm.” Those arms!

where is star trek tng streaming

Phase Variance — Janeway’s theory that matching the shuttle’s phasers to the phase variance of the Loom will make them susceptible to weapons fire proves effective. Episodes like “Time’s Arrow” have established that matching the variance of something that is out of phase allows you to more easily interact with that thing.

where is star trek tng streaming

Tom Paris — Voyager’s helm officer gets a shout out from Admiral Janeway as having taught her a shuttlecraft maneuver that comes in particularly handy in fighting off the Loom.

where is star trek tng streaming

Time Travel Tech — The time ziggurat employs different time travel technologies to function, including the Boreth time crystals (from Discovery Season 2) and the Orb of Time (from DS9’s “Trials and Tribbleations”).

where is star trek tng streaming

Sum of Both of Us — Maj’el refers to the old Vulcan proverb “together we become greater than the sum of both of us.” That proverb was first heard spoken by the recreation of Surak in The Original Series episode “The Savage Curtain.”

where is star trek tng streaming

Jibalian Omelette — Jankom worries that Wesley’s technology will scramble his genes like a Jibalian omelette, a Delta Quadrant favorite referenced by Neelix in “Prototype.” Like Wesley missing the seventh necessary crew member to save the cosmos (Maj’el), Neelix missed the seventh necessary ingredient to make the perfect Jibalian omelette (salt).

where is star trek tng streaming

Multispectral Sweep — Janeway orders a multispectral sensor sweep. Multispectral sensors were first installed aboard Galaxy class starships (mentioned in The Next Generation’s “Encounter at Farpoint”).

“Last Flight of the Protostar, Part I”

where is star trek tng streaming

Emergency Power Cells — Emergency power cells are commonly used technology aboard starships to supplement the power when it fails, perhaps seen most dramatically when the Voyager carries one into Engineering during the events of “Night.”

where is star trek tng streaming

No Antimatter — Kids get a crash course in warp drive design in “Last Flight of the Protostar,” beginning with the need for a matter and antimatter reaction to provide the fuel to power a starship.

where is star trek tng streaming

The Needs of the Many — Chakotay believes he must remain stranded with the Protostar to protect the Federation from the Living Construct, which in this timeline is still aboard the ship. To justify his actions, he modifies the famous Spock line “The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few” to “the needs of the many outweigh the comfort of the few” when the Infinity crew balks at the state of their once proud ship.

where is star trek tng streaming

Cowboy Hat — There is a lot of classically Western iconography in this episode, including Chakotay’s cowboy hat. But that may also serve as an homage to his father Kolopak who wore a similar hat in the flashback sequences in “Tattoo.”

where is star trek tng streaming

Dedication Plaque — We get our first look at the Protostar’s dedication plaque as it is returned to its rightful place on the wall (similar to how Voyager’s dedication plaque is returned to the wall in “Equinox, Part II” to hint that the ship and its crew are getting things back to normal after a difficult period).

“Last Flight of the Protostar, Part II”

where is star trek tng streaming

Physical Therapy — The Doctor has a history of providing painful physical therapy to Admiral Janeway, first seen in the Voyager episode “Scientific Method.”

where is star trek tng streaming

Beverly Crusher — Beverly is wearing the same jacket as during the opening episodes of Star Trek: Picard Season 3. Janeway says it’s been a while since the “Shinzon incident,” referring to Kate Mulgrew’s cameo where it was first revealed she was promoted to Admiral in Star Trek: Nemesis. And the Picard/Crusher dynamics are hinted at with Beverly telling Janeway that Picard’s priority is the Romulan evacuation — and not, as it turns out, the son he doesn’t know anything about.

where is star trek tng streaming

Warp Drive Mechanics — This episode is chock full of warp drive mechanics, including the need for deuterium gas to ignite the reaction between matter and antimatter (Voyager was frequently low on deuterium), the use of bussard collectors, and the ram scoops to absorb particles from around the ship (as seen in Star Trek: Insurrection).

where is star trek tng streaming

Chakotay’s Heritage — Chakotay discusses his origin story with Dal, discussing the loss of his father, his purpose in Starfleet, his heritage following the Federation-Cardassian Treaty that saw his home end up on the Cardassian side of the border, and his decision to join the Maquis.

CINCINNATI — Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson suffered a neck injury in Sunday's game with the Panthers and won't return.

He went down in the fourth quarter and spent a few minutes on the field before walking off under his own power.

Hendrickson is the Bengals' best defensive player. Hopefully it isn't a long-term injury.
