The middle east.

A Testament to Wonder

Explore all the places we go in the Middle East

Destination must-sees.

treasures of egypt

The pyramids of Egypt are true wonders of the ancient world. First built as tombs for the pharaohs and their queens, it’s believed the pyramids are slanted so the pharaoh could symbolically climb to the sky and live forever. It’s still unknown exactly how the pyramids were made – something you’ll likely contemplate as you stare in awe at these feats of ancient architecture.

iconic israel tour

Tel Aviv is a thriving, reinvented city nestled along the Mediterranean coast. The metropolis is quite progressive and most visitors enjoy its relaxed and breezy atmosphere. The city is brimming with up-and-coming restaurateurs, white sand beaches, and chic style. Here, you can taste freshly made hummus, see famous Bauhaus architecture, and experience Tel Aviv’s dynamic boardwalk.

israel a journey of faith tour

Sacred Sites:

The Middle East is the mecca for those looking to embark on a religious pilgrimage. Thought of as the cradle of civilization by many, the Middle East is where the monotheistic faiths of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam began. Here, sacred sites and relics abound – ranging from the Wailing Wall and the Sea of Galilee to Mount Nebo and the Temple Mount.

jourdan egypt tour

Nicknamed the Valley of the Moon, this ethereal landscape in southern Jordan is truly otherworldly. This protected desert wilderness sculpted by undulating sienna-hued mountains, narrow canyons and shifting sands. Board a jeep, hop a camel or take a hike and explore its incomparable landscape.

Destination Must-Do's

walk the walled old city

Walk the Walled Old City:

In Jerusalem, the walled Old City is of great symbolic importance for Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. In spite of its diminutive size, the sacred gates and labyrinth of winding cobblestone streets captivate all those who enter. From the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, to the Western Wall and Dome of the Rock, the hallowed Walled Old City must be seen while in Israel.

bedouin camp

Visit a Bedouin Camp:

In Dubai, away from the gleaming glass of this contemporary city is a different world. Rolling dunes stretch out towards the horizon, rippled like water by the warm winds of the desert. Hop aboard a 4x4 vehicles or a camel and experience the golden sands the way the locals do. At nightfall, share a meal with some new friends and listen to rhythmic beat of Berber drums.

float in the dead sea

Float in the Dead Sea:

Did you know that the Dead Sea is 8.6 times saltier than the ocean? Known in the bible as Sea of the Arabah or Salt Sea, the Dead Sea’s name derives from the high mineral content preventing anything from living in it. Experience the natural buoyancy of the Sea during a tranquil "float" in its healing waters, rich with salt and minerals.

cruise the nile river

Cruise the Nile River:

Considered one of the longest rivers in the world, cruising the Nile River allows you to take in the iconic, ancient monuments of Egypt in a completely different way. Start in Cairo and venture to Aswan. On the way you’ll see incredible temples, elaborate tombs and a mix of lush and barren landscapes.

United Arab Emirates 8 Days

Arabian nights tour.

The biggest, the most expensive, the most grandiose, the most innovative (with a place of honor for camels) Kesher Kosher Tours has opened the gates to the United Arab Emirates with 8 days of kosher travel to this magical and glamorous world. We are the first and only company that has sent to the UAE both a rabbi and an expert guide to prepare the infrastructure for our trips.

The word “Emirates” has become the most widely spoken word in Israel since the “Abraham Accord” – the moving announcement of the normalization of relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates on August 13, 2020. Israel’s relations with these principalities are currently emerging from the shadows, and shortly we’ll enjoy direct flights and trips that were once just imaginary.

Some 17 million tourists visited the Emirates in 2019, enjoying a destination that attracts the rich and famous from all over the world and offers a fascinating combination of desert landscape and Mediterranean atmosphere, combining camels and high-tech and innovation, futuristic sites and most importantly, luxury and splendor all over.

The UAE is one of the richest countries in the world and the second largest economy in the Arab world after Saudi Arabia. The country sits on huge oil reserves with the highest revenues in the world – no less than $ 1.2 trillion (!) – that are currently being invested more and more in high-tech. You can see the results of the huge mountain of cash that the emirates have in our eight dream days of touring in four emirates: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ras al Khaimah and Sharjah.

Abu Dhabi is the largest and the capital of the Emirates, and also the richest city in the world. The emirate of Abu Dhabi stretching over 87% of the UAE’s territory is home to government institutions. Two-thirds of the UAE’s wealth comes from Abu Dhabi, which is also considered a more cultural city, with museums, mosques and some of the most beautiful in the Muslim world – ones we have not been exposed to. Add to that theme parks, attractions and of course luxury malls.

On the Dubai City website, you will find the following statement: OUR VISION IS TO MAKE DUBAI THE HAPPIEST CITY ON EARTH OVER THE PAST 40 YEARS Those are not just words. Dubai, the second largest city in the Emirates, is not only a world-class construction and architecture, and not just an international business center, rolling in billions of dollars, but also an international fashion capital. It’s a dazzling hub of wealth and glamor, with huge skyscrapers, glittering malls, artificial islands in the middle of the sea and even a ski resort in the desert.

The third largest emirate is Sharjah, the cultural capital of the United Arab Emirates. Considered by UNESCO in 2019 as a “World Culture Capital” for 2019. Sharjah is home to the Arab Writer’s Association, as well as to numerous museums, markets and it’s well preserved old city.

Only some 10% of the residents of the UAE are Emirati citizens. The rest are foreign, permanent or temporary residents, mainly construction workers, and those employed in tourism, housekeeping and more. Add to them international businessmen, branch employees and leading international companies living here, among them quite a few Israelis. Abu Dhabi and Dubai have small Jewish communities who gather for prayers on Shabbat and holidays.

Despite the abundance, progress and innovation, the UAE has not for a moment forgotten its traditions and heritage. The Emiratis cherish their camels that have served their ancestors for many generations, and are today part of local folklore. Dubai holds camel races and even camel beauty contests -and these also roll in millions. Dubai is the only city in the world with a Camel Hospital where dromedaries receive exclusive treatments and surgery, using the most advanced veterinary technologies in the world!

Wednesday: Arrival to Dubai, Global Village

Arrival to Dubai, one of the seven emirates that make up the UAE. Dubai, which began as an insignificant fishing village, is now a major tourist destination in the Middle East that combines Middle Eastern exoticism and international relaxation and entertainment.

After dinner we will go out to the Global Village, one of the largest tourism, leisure and entertainment projects on the planet, which contains pavilions of 75 countries around the world and includes souvenir shops, music performances and a fireworks show.

Thursday: Dubai, the Old City, Dubai Frame, Dubai Mall, Burj Khalifa, Cruise

After breakfast, we’ll start our visit in the Old City of Dubai. We’ll embark on a walking tour of the Bastakiya quarter and visit the textile market. We’ll cross Dubai Creek on an Abra water taxi and make our way to visit the Gold Market and the Spice Market.

From there we’ll continue to the Dubai Frame, a wonderful addition to Dubai’s impressive collection of architectural wonders. The Frame lives up to its name – it’s 150m high and 100m wide. We’ll ascend to the top and walk across the glass floor as we see both old and new Dubai from either side of the frame. Then it’s on to Dubai Mall, the largest mall in the world, spread over 1,124,000 square meters! It also has an aquarium, karting races, futuristic park and virtual reality park as well as all the shops you can just think of. We’ll visit the Aquarium and Underwater Zoo, and then before sunset we’ll ascend to 124th floor of the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. From there we’ll be able to see the whole area from the Persian Gulf to the desert. Afterwards we’ll head back down to watch the water fountains show at Dubai Mall Lake. We’ll enjoy a fabulous cruise on Dubai Creek as we sail among the amazing, dazzling skyscrapers of this wonder in the desert.

Friday: Dubai, Sharjah

Today we will visit Sharjah, the third most populous city in the United Arab Emirates, after Dubai & Abu Dhabi. Sharjah is sometimes called the “Pearl of the Gulf”, and boasts a beautifully restored Old Town of heritage areas, museums and souks.

We will visit the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization. We will stop at the traditional handicrafts and other goodies at two colorful markets, the Souq Al Arsh ans Souq Al Markazi. We will drive back to our hotel and prepare for Shabbat.

Shabbat: Dubai

As usual on our tours, Shabbat is a day at leisure. We’ll daven together, have a wonderful kiddush and lunch, be able to lie by the pool, relax, read and enjoy.

Sunday: Dubai, Palm Jumeira, Desert Safari

After breakfast, we will continue our tour of Dubai. We’ll visit the Great Jumeira Mosque and make a photo stop outside the 7-star luxury Burj Al Arab hotel. We’ll board the monorail train that takes us to the “Palm Jumeira” a massive artificial island project that’s visible from outer space.

We will cross the Palm Island to the world renowned Atlantis Hotel. In the afternoon we’ll drive to the desert and meet the jeeps that will take us for a field trip on the dunes. We will stop for spectacular views. Towards evening he enjoys a kosher barbecue and folklore performances. This will be a night to remember!

Monday: Dubai, Abu Dhabi

After breakfast, we’ll drive to Abu Dhabi, the  largest and richest city among the Emirates, and also the capital of the Union. We’ll visit the beautiful Abu Dhabi Mosque, where we’ll witness Islamic architecture at its best. We will also visit the Louvre Museum located on Sa’adiat Island.

The museum has 8000 sq.m. of galleries, which will interest everyone. The museum houses a Bible written in Yemen in 1498. We will end with a panoramic tour of Yas Island, known as the Orlando of the Middle East. It’s absolutely amazing. At the end of the visit, we’ll return to Dubai.

Tuesday: Dubai, Miracle Garden, Etihad Museum

Today we will visit the Miracle Gardens, launched on Valentine’s day, 2013 and is set in the heart of Dubai land. A 72,000 sqm space full of scents and colors comes to life. Over 150 million flowers arranged in colorful arches & patterns, and the myriad shapes they form, is truly magnificent.

We’ll continue to visit the Etihad Museum, where we will learn about the history of the UAE. We will discover the rich heritage of the Emirates before the signing of the agreement which led to the unification of the seven emirates.

Wednesday: Dubai - Home Gateway

Our tour has come to an end. We’ll drive to the airport and fly back to our home gate away.

We bring food from Israel to supplement what is served in the hotel such as cheeses, peanut butter, tuna, etc. For dinners, we serve either fish or meat (usually chicken) as our main course. In areas where meat is not available nor readily acquired, we will have fish. When possible, we acquire the meat locally from Chabad or other reliable kosher source, and in some cases we fly the meat in from Israel. We try to provide as many meat meals as possible. The main course at dinner is preceded by soup and salad and accompanied by freshly prepared vegetables. Dessert typically consists of fresh fruits. We do not guarantee Pat Israel and Chalav Israel for all destinations. In many destinations we have our own dishes and silverware. Where we don’t, we provide disposables at the meals. When we cook in hotel kitchens, we use our own knives, cutting boards, pots and pans, cooking implements and disposable metal trays. All food preparation is done on covered surfaces under the strict supervision of our trained staff/guides who function as our mashgichim. We make great efforts to assure that our travelers will experience local foods first-hand, while maintaining stringent observance of Kashrut laws on all occasions. On most of our tours, you will be accompanied by two of our staff members- one a guide for the tour who is knowledgeable about the places you are visiting and will accompany you throughout the day and the second, a person who will deal with the logistics of the tour and provide kashrut supervision in the kitchen.

It is our aim to provide the finest hotel possible in each area we visit. We require our hotels to allow us to work in the kitchen and to supervise the cooking and there are many hotels that are not willing to cooperate. They simply have no desire for us to be “meddling” in their cooking process nor are they happy about our bringing our equipment into their kitchens. We work very hard to find the best hotel in the area that will meet our requirements. Because we are not ready to compromise on kashrut, we may not always be able to use a five star hotel.

Anti-israel protesters now demand u. california cuts ties with hillel, jewish groups: ‘it’s antisemitism’.

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

Anti-Israel protesters in California have outed themselves as raging antisemites after demanding that the University of California cut ties with Hillel and other Jewish community groups that support Jewish students and faculty on campuses.

The demands were revealed in a flier for the Students for Justice in Palestine at UC-Santa Cruz.

Critics were swift and did not mince words in pointing at that the flier demonstrates clear antisemitism .

Students in graduation garb walk by a pro-Palestinian tent encampment on the steps of Sproul Hall at University of California, Berkeley in Berkeley, Calif., on Thursday, May 2, 2024. The group hopes to convince the university to review its investments and cut ties with military supply industries and weapons manufacturers involved with Israeli attacks and civilian casualties in Gaza. (Carlos Avila Gonzalez/San Francisco Chronicle via AP)

“We are supposed to pretend, for the sake of political correctness, that SJP is simply criticizing the Israeli government rather than targeting Jews,” Bronx Democratic Rep. Ritchie Torres wrote.

“Attacking Jewish institutions, however, is not criticism. It’s antisemitism.”

In a list of demands shared on Saturday on social media, the group calls for the university to “Cut ties UC-wide with all zionist organizations — including study abroad programs, fellowships, seminars, research collaborations and universities.”

Listed among the so-called “Zionist organizations” were Jewish community groups, including the Hellen Diller Foundation, Koret Foundation, Israel Institute and Hillel International — the biggest Jewish student life organization in the US.

“Three of the four organizations cited in the academic boycott demand by encampment activists at UCSC are Jewish charities and communal groups,” the Bay Area Jewish Community Relations Counsel  wrote on X.

If calling to boycott Jewish charities, organizations, and student groups that have no affiliation with the Israeli government is not antisemitism, then what is? Protesting against Jewish institutions is not a valid criticism of the Israeli government, and I think we both know… pic.twitter.com/aciWadL4YA — Hen Mazzig (@HenMazzig) May 3, 2024

“They are pillars of the Jewish community. This isn’t just about opposing Israel’s Gaza actions but seems aimed at Jewish institutions, revealing underlying antisemitism,” the Jewish group adds.

Other social media users also called out the list for “effectively demanding the end of Jewish life on campus.”

“All the people going ‘but Hillel has a pro-Israel orientation’ to the SJP at UCSC demands to remove Hillel would never be okay with someone saying “but Muslim student union has so many convicted terrorist alumni” as a defense to orgs asking it to be banned,” one person commented on X.

Hillel prohibits chapters from hosting or partnering with groups that oppose Israel and gets some funding from the Israeli government, according to Foreign Policy . However, it is otherwise apolitical and stands at the center for Jewish life at nearly all college campuses across the US.

Another social media user slammed US-Santa Cruz’s anti-Israel encampment as a “terrorism recruitment festival.”

“This list of their ‘demands’ transparently declares the real agenda to drive Jews out of universities and suppress safety and hate speech control,” a poster on X said.

With their list of demands, the pro-Palestine group also calls on the university to divest from weapons manufacturing companies to “end the targeted repression and policing of pro-Palestinian advocacy on campus” and to “sever all ties” with the local police department.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Several flights to Dubai were cancelled and diverted Thursday, airport authorities announced, as heavy rains hit the United Arab Emirates for the second time in a month.

An airport authority spokesperson said five inbound flights were diverted overnight, while nine arriving and four departing flights were cancelled.

In April, heavy thunderstorms dumped the heaviest rains ever recorded in the UAE in a span of hours, flooding portions of major highways and Dubai International Airport, the world’s busiest for international travel and a hub for the long-haul carrier Emirates. The airport ended up needing 22 tankers with vacuum pumps to get water off its grounds.

Authorities warned residents to stay home ahead of Thursday’s rain, announcing that they should work remotely, and that schools will hold classes online.

Although Thursday’s rain did not cause major problems or flooding, authorities still issued warnings on Wednesday and took precautions.

The flooding two weeks ago quickly overwhelmed the UAE’s drainage systems, flooded out neighborhoods, business districts and even portions of the 12-lane Sheikh Zayed Highway, which links Dubai and the neighboring emirate of Abu Dhabi. Many residents lost their belongings when their homes flooded, and many cars were destroyed.

Blinken Turns Up Pressure on Hamas to Accept Gaza Cease-Fire Deal

“The time is now,” Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken declared, urging Hamas to accept the terms of a proposed truce. He also made clear that he expected more from Israel.

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken speaking to reporters at a port in Israel.

By Edward Wong ,  Adam Rasgon and Thomas Fuller

Edward Wong reported while traveling with the U.S. secretary of state, and Adam Rasgon reported from Jerusalem. Thomas Fuller reported from the United States.

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken delivered twin messages to Hamas and Israel on Wednesday, pressing Hamas to accept a cease-fire proposal while at the same time urging Israeli leaders to put off a major ground invasion into the thickly populated southern Gaza city of Rafah.

On the last day of a Middle East trip, his seventh visit to the region since the war began in October, Mr. Blinken tried to turn up the pressure on Hamas.

“We are determined to get a cease-fire that brings the hostages home and to get it now, and the only reason that that wouldn’t be achieved is because of Hamas,” Mr. Blinken said at the start of a meeting in Tel Aviv with Isaac Herzog, the president of Israel. “There is a proposal on the table, and as we’ve said: No delays, no excuses. The time is now.”

The proposed agreement calls for the release of 33 hostages in the initial stage of a cease-fire, and would lead to the release of Palestinian prisoners being held in Israel.

Mr. Blinken’s comments, which were made in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, were part of a concerted campaign by the Biden administration to secure a pause in a war that, Gazan officials say, has killed more than 34,000 Palestinians. The bloodshed has roiled American campuses and is seeping into domestic politics.

Mr. Blinken also made clear that he expected more from Israel.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday night after a day of meetings with Israeli leaders, including nearly three hours with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Mr. Blinken said that the Israelis had not convinced him that they can prevent the humanitarian catastrophe that is feared should there be a ground invasion of Rafah.

“We cannot, will not, support a major military operation in Rafah absent an effective plan to make sure that civilians are not harmed — and no, we’ve not seen such a plan,” Mr. Blinken told reporters. “There are other ways, and in our judgment better ways, of dealing with the real, ongoing challenge of Hamas that does not involve, require, a major military operation.”

Mr. Blinken’s visit to the Middle East, which began on Monday, came as Israel is both softening some of its demands in negotiations over a cease-fire and digging in on its vow to move into Rafah “with or without a deal,” as Mr. Netanyahu put it earlier this week.

In its latest proposal, Israel said it would ease travel back to northern Gaza for Palestinian civilians uprooted by its assault, according to two Israeli officials. That is a sharp reversal on an issue that has been a sticking point in the talks.

For weeks, Israel had demanded that it be able to impose significant restrictions on Palestinians heading to the north, out of concern that Hamas, which set off the war with its deadly Oct. 7 attack on Israel, could take advantage of a large-scale return to restrengthen itself.

Now, Israel has consented to Palestinian civilians’ going back en masse during the first phase of an agreement, according to the officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to share details of the proposal.

One of the Israeli officials said those returning to the north would be subject to no inspections or limitations, while the second said there would be nearly no restrictions, without elaborating.

It was not clear whether Hamas would accept the Israeli proposal.

On Wednesday night, a spokesman for the group, Osama Hamdan, said in an interview on Lebanese television, “Our position on the current negotiating paper is negative.” But the Hamas press office later clarified those comments. “The negative position does not mean negotiations have stopped,” the press office said. “There is a back and forth issue.”

Hamas has long demanded that any deal include a permanent end to the war, which has forced most of Gaza’s more than two million people to flee their homes. The Israeli offer, according to one of the Israeli officials, does not include language that explicitly discusses an end to the fighting.

Mr. Blinken discussed the hostage and cease-fire deal on the table in his meeting with Mr. Netanyahu in Jerusalem on Wednesday, according to a summary from the State Department. He also spoke about the U.S. government’s “clear position” on Rafah, the summary said. With about a million civilians sheltering there, U.S. officials say that Israel should carry out targeted operations against Hamas leaders and fighters in the city.

Mr. Blinken also spoke with the leader of the opposition in the Israeli Parliament, Yair Lapid . Afterward, Mr. Lapid said in a social media post that Mr. Netanyahu had “no political excuse” not to make a deal to declare a cease-fire and free the hostages. “Every hour is critical,” he said.

Increasing the flow of humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza has been a recurrent theme during Mr. Blinken’s stops in Israel and, a day earlier, in Jordan.

On Tuesday evening, he visited a warehouse in Jordan where trucks were being loaded with food and medical aid to go to the newly opened Erez crossing into northern Gaza. “This is real and important progress,” Mr. Blinken said, “but more still needs to be done.”

The following day, some 30 trucks with goods from Jordan rolled through the crossing. The opening was promised weeks ago, but the Israeli military said it had needed to build inspection facilities and pave roads on both sides of the border before the crossing could be used by aid trucks.

On Wednesday, Mr. Blinken also visited an inspection checkpoint at Kerem Shalom, a southern border crossing between Israel and Gaza. Flatbed trucks with bags of food aid bound for Gaza — onions, rice and cooking oil — were awaiting inspection. Yoav Gallant, Israel’s defense minister, walked around with Mr. Blinken.

Before touring the checkpoint, Mr. Blinken visited an Israel kibbutz that was one of the sites attacked by Hamas and its allies on Oct. 7. At Kibbutz Nir Oz, he entered a burned-out home where a family of five, all American citizens, had been killed.

Across the border on Wednesday, Israeli airstrikes continued. The Gaza Health Ministry said Wednesday that the bodies of 33 people killed in strikes had been brought to local hospitals over the past 24 hours.

News and Analysis

Rebuilding all the homes destroyed by Israel’s military offensive in the Gaza Strip could take until the next century  if the pace of reconstruction were to match what it was after wars there in 2014 and 2021, according to a United Nations report.

A Hamas leader said that the group would soon send a delegation to Cairo to “complete ongoing discussions”  on a cease-fire deal for the war in the Gaza Strip, raising hopes of progress in the stalled efforts for a truce.

Israeli officials weigh sharing power with the Arab states in a postwar Gaza, which will likely displease both Israel’s right-wing faction and many Arab states. But it does signal that Israel is thinking about the future , and it could inform future talks.
